2 tsp matcha green tea powder

lots of ice

The Inquisition Walks into a Pastry Shop

Dorian orders a Tosca. Shortbread crust, a paper thin layer of raspberry jam, frangipane and topped with caramel almond florentine. He eats it way too fast and wishes he had another, but will never go back in for seconds.

The Iron Bull gets himself a slice of chocolate cake. It’s a Jewish bakery in New York type of chocolate cake, towering 8 inches high, six layers, impossibly rich. He eats it in three bites.

Cole wants a mazerine. It’s a simple pastry, shortbread crust with frangipane, topped with a thin layer of apricot glaze. It sits off to the side of the case, and the shop doesn’t sell many, so he gets one so they don’t feel bad.

Leliana gets a slice of linzer torte. The crust has so many almonds in it, it falls apart the moment her fork touches it, the seedy raspberry jam barely holding together. She eats it with her eyes closed, remembering.

Cullen gets a big fat wedge of apple pie. Then he orders a second, claiming it’s for later. It’s not for later, it’s for right now.

Josephine loves crème brulee and eats it so slowly, you wonder how it doesn’t spoil before she finishes it.

Blackwall likes a slab of Tres Leches, soft and milky and far too sweet. The creamy drops stick to his mustache and beard. He saves the single underripe strawberry for last, dragging it through the wet crumbs.

Vivienne gets a single scoop of gelato, perched in a glass bowl. Peach is her favorite. If it’s a special day, she’ll crumble an ameretti on top, smiling after every spoonful.

Solas gets a petit four. He picks a single one, perhaps an Opera cake, or maybe a petit four sec, a crispy, buttery pastry with sugar baked into the top. He eats it, waiting for about ten minutes before ordering two more. The chestnut puzzle pastries are his favorite, especially in Orlais, where they spin sugar into elaborate loops, decorating the top.

Dagna goes for a bowl of Korean Pat Bing Su. Shaved milk ice, red beans, cubed mochi, condensed milk, and a scoop of green tea ice cream in the middle. She never stops smiling as she digs in.

Harding always orders a palmier. Puff pastry, rolled and rolled in sugar, folded and sliced, baked until the sugar caramelizes and browns, the butter puffing out the layers. She always wants to get the rainbow cake, but she puts it off, always waiting for a special occasion that never arrives.

Cassandra picks up a passionfruit tart. She selects it, blushing. The tart is simple, a chocolate crust filled with passionfruit curd. She eats it while reading her favorite story, the one where the villan finally gets what’s coming to him. She doesn’t notice that she licks the spoon as she reads.

Varric loves donuts, especially Orlesian crullers. He gets about six at a time, telling himself it’s because the shop is so far away, he has to be sure to stock up. Never mind that the crullers don’t keep. He eats them all in one sitting, always swearing he’s not going to do this next time.

Sera walks in the shop, past the case of cookies, moving beyond the muffins and scones, pushing past the cases of petit fours and gets herself a hand pie. It’s filled with blackberries, gooey and sweet. She holds it in both hands, remembering when she was younger and bought pies just like this from a friendly seller in Denerim.

The Cullens Starbucks Orders
  • Carlisle: green tea (iced green tea in the summer)
  • Esme: black coffee with steamed milk that has a "design" in the foam (she prefers a heart)
  • Edward: caramel Macchiato
  • Bella: "drinks" Edward's caramel macchiato
  • Renesmee: tries everyone's before asking for her own creation
  • Emmett: Java Chip Frappuccino Blended Coffee
  • Rosalie: Gets whatever's "in season" (Pumpkin Spice in the fall, Peppermint in the winter, etc)
  • Alice: Espresso (in those small white cups)
  • Jasper: black coffee

‘Hey you’re still awake.’ Myungwon greeted you once you answered your phone his voice tinted with surprise as you laughed letting your phone to rest on your shoulder as you pushed your shoulder towards your ear and using your hand to hold the calculator. ‘Why did you call me if you thought I was asleep?’ you asked him putting in the numbers into your calculator trying to finish your assignment.

‘I was thinking of leaving you a cute voicemail for you to hear in the morning.’ He sounded a bit disappointed which amuses you. You hummed softly as he did as well. ‘Well how about you tell me that cute voicemail now? I could use some cuteness now.’ You suggested and you could practically see the dimple slowly forming at your suggestion.

‘What are you doing?’ he asked suddenly interested.

‘Not you.’ you retorted with a pout on your lips despite him not being able to see your respond.

Feel free to not do it, no pressure ^^

The one thing about having this temporary job at Starbucks is that it’s hooked me on to drinks that are amazing but I likely will never get made outside of my free (while working) drinks.

- Soy Flat White with raspberry and white mocha (tall = 1+1, grande = 2 + 2)

- Double shot on Ice substitute white mocha and coconut milk (or sugar free vanilla and soy)

- Iced green tea latte with soy, blended instead of stirred

- Green tea frappuccino with no classic, no blending base, add a banana instead

I shall never drink these again when I go to Japan and it’s…sad. But thanks Starbucks for getting me super invested in the flavour of coffee

My belly has been feeling kind of out of whack, and I feel like I need to reboot my digestive system, so I’m going on a 5 day smoothie reboot.

This isn’t a diet.  This isn’t a fast or cleanse.  It isn’t to lose weight.  It’s to give my digestive system a break from all of the bad eating habits that I’ve picked up during a stressful, junk food-filled season.

Here’s my plan, in case anyone is feeling the same!

Friday:

Wake up: Yoga + warm water and lemon
Smoothies:
Breakfast- oats, pineapple, strawberries, agave, dairy-free milk, bananas
Lunch- spinach, pineapple, banana, orange juice, dairy-free milk
Dinner: protein powder, almond butter, banana, cinnamon, cacao powder, ice

Saturday:
Wake-up: Yoga + ginger tea with lemon and cayenne
Smoothies:
Breakfast:  aloe vera juice, cucumber, lemon, banana, gelled chia seeds, cilantro, spinach, coconut milk yogurt, green apple, agave (to sweeten)
Lunch:  raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, banana, orange juice
and
spinach, pineapple, cucumber, carrot
Dinner:  carrot, apple, orange, ginger, ice
Snack:  frozen bananas, dairy-free milk (ice cream)

Sunday:
Wake-up: Meditation + green tea with lemon + shot of aloe vera juice
Smoothies:
Breakfast: spinach, pineapple, orange juice, dairy-free milk, protein powder, banana
Lunch: cucumber, kale, spinach, green apple, ice
Dinner: pineapple, coconut milk yogurt, banana, spinach, ice

Monday:
Wake-up: Yoga + hot water with lemon, cayenne, ginger, and agave
Smoothies:
Breakfast: oats, coconut milk yogurt, gelled chia seeds, cacao powder, dairy-free milk, agave, banana, ice
Lunch: blueberries, apple, banana, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, orange, orange juice, ice
Dinner: carrot, spinach, kale, cucumber, ice
Snack: Bananas (frozen), dairy-free milk, blueberries

Tuesday:
Wake-up: Yoga + green tea, agave, lemon
Smoothies:
Breakfast: Pineapple, blueberries, mint, lemon, ice
Lunch: almond butter, banana, dairy-free milk, oats, ice
Dinner: aloe vera juice, banana, blueberry, mint, cucumber, ginger, gelled chia seeds, coconut milk yogurt, ice
Dessert: frozen banana, dairy-free milk + orange, frozen banana, oj, dairy-free milk, frozen coconut milk yogurt = creamsicle goodness

Shopping list:

  • frozen pineapple
  • frozen strawberries
  • frozen blueberries
  • frozen raspberries
  • bag of lemons
  • bag or oranges
  • bag of apples
  • ginger root
  • green tea
  • dairy-free milk
  • cucumber
  • bag of shredded carrots
  • chia seeds
  • cayenne pepper, cinnamon, agave, cocao (or even cocoa) powder - I had these already
  • almond butter
  • frozen kale
  • bananas (2 bunches)
  • oats
  • protein powder
  • orange juice
  • mint
  • aloe vera juice

Honestly, I had a lot of this stuff already (green tea, oats, almond butter).  It cost me a little over $45, and I’m sure that I’m going to have leftovers.  Aloe vera juice was the most expensive ($8).  If I’m hungry, I’m going to eat light snacks from the leftovers (banana or apples + almond butter, oatmeal, chia pudding, etc.).  If I really get hungry, I’m going to eat miso soup with tempeh and greens (I’m trying to avoid soy during this though).

I hope this helps my fellow followers with digestive issues or who feel like they just need a break!

judge my drink: iced green tea latte with coconut milk.

It’s your last year in college and you spent all last year studying abroad; an experienced you tell people was “life affirming” and “eye opening” but you really spent the whole time locked in your room because you couldn’t be bothered to learn the native language.

The whole of college has been like for you. You went into it expecting to make deep connections with your fellow students, develop life long mentorships with professors and experience exciting new places. You wanted study sessions in the quad surrounded by perfectly framed fall foliage. You wanted spontaneous road trips to nowhere with #nofilter. You wanted spring break vacations to mountain tops.

But it takes work to actually make those things happen and when push comes to shove, you’re all talk. You talk about saving the earth. You talk about getting involved in politics. You talk about social causes. You’ve convinced yourself that your armchair activism makes a difference. You’ve told yourself that really, it’s classes that are holding you back and you’ll just travel after you graduate and before you get a job.

But deep down you know you wont. You’re too damned scared to actually do anything. It requires commitment and dedication. Two things you’ve never had and are content to never develop. After committing to something involves risk and risk is scary as shit, no matter how small. So instead, you sit in your hometown starbucks drinking a cowards drink, as devoid of personality as it is risk.
