I’ve got the Fable 2 feelings again. I plan on doodling Garth and, really, more of Sparrow’s interactions with the other heroes but I’m tiiiired rn |’D

Someday I will stop talking about these two dresses. Today is not that day.

Grace Kelly’s wedding dress (designed by Helen Rose, two-time Oscar-winning costume designer) is a masterpiece. Rich materials, exquisitely tailored. Part of what makes this gown so appealing, though, is its proportions. The cummerbund extends from the waist to the underbust, which gives visual lift to the bust. The bodice is essentially three different sections—the cummerbund (solid), the bust (lace over solid), and the upper chest/shoulders (lace alone). Each section is roughly the same size, meaning the rule of thirds has been applied. Everything is well-balanced visually.

Another important thing to remember is that women in the 50s generally wore different undergarments than women today. Kelly was most likely wearing a girdle, which helped shape that slim waist, and the skirt had a significant crinoline and probably had hip padding as well to achieve that silhouette.

Kelly’s dress was produced by a team of 36 seamstresses in six weeks. Despite the close fit of the lace bodice, seams are virtually impossible to find. Hiding seams in lace is not an impossible task but it is time-consuming; it involves overlapping lace appliqué on the seams. The swan neck is also perfect, flowing without wrinkles over her collarbones and laying flat against her neck. No matter how she holds her arms, there is no strain on the bodice.

And then we get to JMo’s cosplay version. 

The proportions are off. The cummerbund doesn’t come up high enough. The result is the illusion of a low bust. There’s also no excuse for the bottom edge to be flipping up like that. She isn’t wearing a girdle (which, I can’t really blame her) and also has little or no hip padding, so the dress as a very flat silhouette. The skirt pleats are weirdly off-center, but the line of buttons is not (how is that even possible?). With her arms out on either side, the bodice is straining across the upper chest. The swan neck isn’t flush like it’s supposed to be and the lace edge isn’t even symmetrical. It’s closer to the buttons on one side than the other. An attempt was made to mirror the lace across the placket but the sides are off by enough to make it look weird.

And those seams are visible from space.

Sure, this is a recognizable copy, but in the same way that Yo-Yo Ma and your eleven-year-old nephew both play the cello. At this stage, I’m forced to assume that the costume department had two days and one fitting with JMo, or that they’re actively trolling everyone with this thing.

Bellamy in Jasper’s Empire (4x08)

We all know the scene. Bellamy and Jasper return to Arkadia, there’s a party going on up the ramp, and at the other side are some people still mourning the people lost in the black rain. Jasper goes up the ramp, leaving Bellamy at the crossroads, and then a lone blonde Clarke look-a-like emerges to convince Bellamy to dance. 

Bellamy and Bree are the two we’re supposed to be focused on in this scene, right? That’s what most would have you believe. I mean the Clarkeness of how they’ve done Bree up can’t be denied, but I think people have focused too much on this because of Bellarke when the scene itself is more about the Bellamy/Jasper relationship continued over from their scene earlier in the episode…and also a bit about the two on their own

Why do I think this?

Well, for me it has to do with the music playing in the background. It’s titled Empire and is by an artist WVM. It’s mainly the music to the song that we hear during the scene, but there are four moments in the scene where this isn’t so. Four lines of the song that are completely distinguishable, almost as if they wanted us to actually hear them compared to the other parts.

The first of these lines are actually the first lines of the song.

I tore down the walls that showed me heaven

We hear these as we see Jasper and Bellamy walk into Arkadia and Jasper sees that the party has already gotten started. Now, even though he is coming in as it’s already gotten underway Jasper is 100% the person who masterminded this party. He’s all smiles as they enter where as Bellamy has no idea what is going on. So, how does this tie into the lyrics? Well, let’s look at the contrast in the two sides of the room. First we have the party. In a way I feel like the party is supposed to be the heaven mentioned in the song. People are smiling, having fun….you might even say there is rejoicing. Heaven is supposed to be a place where there is no more sorrow, and while it might only last for this night, this party is providing just that for the people at it. Compare this to the other side of the room where people are mourning and in pain, which I suppose in a way would make that side of the room hell. 

There’s also the first part of the song ‘I tore down the walls’ Because of being privy to certain information before the others, Jasper is the first to adopt the ‘live for the day’ type of mentality. Whether or not you want to see it as a good thing, for the most part this season Jasper has been all about living out the remainder of the days doing things that you love and will make you happy. Some see this as destructive, but honestly I’ve always had a different take on it, and the previous scene in the forest solidified this for me. Jasper hasn’t given up on surviving because he wants to die. He’s living life with everything he has, and he wants others to do the same. He’s the first to really accept that maybe they won’t survive, and there is nothing wrong with that. He’s torn down the walls of fear of what’s to come to be able to see and live in the heaven that is around him. I also think you can consider Jasper being able to sort of get through to Bellamy out in the forest as him tearing down those walls Bellamy had built up, slowly allowing him to see the ‘heaven’ around him as well.

my love for you will always stay

This is the next distinguishable line from the song. It comes after Bellamy expresses not being sure if he wants to/should go to the party, and Jasper tells him that everyone is going to die and he has a choice in how he goes out. “The ending’s the same, but who says the journey has to suck?” Jasper doesn’t force Bellamy up the ramp to the party, in fact he doesn’t even hardcore try to pressure him into joining. He leaves Bellamy to make this decision all on his own. I think the important thing about this in regards to the lyrics is that no matter what Bellamy chooses to do he is always going to be someone that is important to Jasper. The things he does is not going to change this. Even Mt. Weather didn’t change this. I know some people could argue this, but as much as Jasper lashed out at Bellamy in season 3 because of it, I never thought that Jasper hated Bellamy (or even Monty and Clarke) in a way that meant he no longer loved/cared about him. I think so many people don’t recognize that you can hate someone (or something they did) while still ultimately loving them.

welcome to my empire

We have the whole ‘dance with me’ ‘I don’t dance’ scene. Now, before I get to this moment with the above lyrics, I do want to point out that Bellamy looks up to the party and Jasper before allowing Bree to guide him up the ramp. The fact that it’s after this moment just goes to show how Jasper has gotten through to him in a way that no one else has been able to so far.  

Now as Bellamy (and Bree) walk up the ramp we hear ‘welcome to’ and as the camera moves to show Jasper turning to greet them it goes to ‘my empire.’ This party, this whole way of thinking of the apocalypse is, in fact, Jasper’s empire. In Jasper’s empire you don’t survive, you live, and you live with every ounce of your being. Bellamy makes the decision here to join Jasper in living. He’s allowing himself to take the burden of saving the world off his shoulders, even if it’s only for a little while…now if only Bellamy would take the backpack off his shoulders…YOU’RE AT A PARTY, BELLAMY!!!!

the seeds of your destruction

This is the continuation of the previous line from the song. It’s heard after Jasper hands Bellamy a drink, and as they cheers and drink it down. Now, I know there are plenty of people out there who would take this as a negative thing…mainly people who hate Jasper and will try to twist everything he does into a negative thing, but y’know what? Fuck those people. This moment isn’t about the destruction of Bellamy in a negative way, no it’s the destruction of Bellamy’s way of thinking that he has to keep punishing himself for the things that he did and the people he couldn’t save. It isn’t something that is going to be an automatic 180 change, but Jasper has provided him the seeds of change.

Is it okay to repost some of your art?

Sorry, but please don’t.

I really appreciate that you like my art, but please do not repost them. 

Whenever I see people reposting my art at any site, I start to feel that my work is being taken for granted and people don’t account the hours I spend into making these drawings, even if they’re just little chibis.
It also makes me feel like I do not have control over how my art in being distributed, hence discourages me from continuing to share them. 

I’m sorry if this comes out sounding rude, but please try to understand.

Sealioning in the Witchy Community

See this comic by David Malki? If you’ve never heard of the term “sealioning” before, this is what it refers to. It’s the origin of the phrase. And it’s really, really annoying. It’s basically aggressive cluelessness masquerading as a sincere desire to understand. They put the responsibility all on you to explain things. (And if you’re a minority, then it gets really, REALLY frustrating.)

It doesn’t just happen in the witchy community, obviously, but it’s something I’ve seen lately and I wanna talk about it, because honestly, it’s just plain annoying.

Say you make a post about how cultural appropriation is bad. Lo and behold, a sea lion shows up and says “well where exactly is your evidence that cultural appropriation is even real to begin with?” “You made this statement publicly you should expect some criticism!” “Why are you being so rude about it I just want to have a civil conversation and explain to me why you think cultural appropriation is bad!” 

And there’s just. No winning against a sea lion because they’re constantly demanding proof. The burden of proof is always on you. “I’m just trying to have a civil conversation!” “If you had just had a civil conversation with me then maybe I wouldn’t have been so rude/mean/blocked you.” 

So if you’re getting harassed by a sea lion, it’s okay to block them. You’re not doing anything wrong or mean by refusing to engage. Hell, I’ve seen people who genuinely do have a civil conversation with someone sealioning and that person STILL acts aggressively clueless. 

No one is ever under any obligation to engage with you if you do this. 

So for those of you dealing with this, best of luck. You’re not a bad person to protect yourself and your sanity by blocking or refusing to engage. This isn’t someone who is trying to learn, it’s a form of aggression and harassment by forcing you to do all of the work of educating with none of the actual learning. 

“I’m willing to listen if you actually say it nicely!” 

Nope. Nine times out of ten that person is a sea lion and is willfully ignoring the information presented. Also, no minority group is ever obligated to be “nice” to their oppressors. That’s respectability politics and it’s also okay to block/ignore someone trying to force you to explain/justify your race/culture/sexuality/gender/religion. 

Cultural appropriation is bad. G*psy is a slur. Nazi’s aren’t welcome. Don’t be a jerk about other people’s practices, especially if they’re trying to reclaim their roots. White people trying to practice Hoodoo/Voodoo is not okay. There’s enough resources out there about all these topics that you shouldn’t have to go demand information if you refuse to listen. This isn’t to scare anyone off from trying to learn, but the whole attitude of being entitled to civility when you’re being an asshole needs to stop. 

That is all.

There’s something really dangerous about the generations of today and how they react to conflict. I’ve noticed that social tolerance levels have dwindled down to almost nothing, to the point where it almost rivals the older gen that we’ve tried so hard to separate ourselves from. If one little thing is out of place in regards to a relationship, movement, or thought process, especially when expectations are centered around tumblr-based ideals, people will just cut it out of their lives completely, with no remorse or chance of redemption.

I believe we can safely establish that the world is not like tumblr, and no one should assume that it will ever function like tumblr does. Yes, as a whole the human race has come a long way in terms of open minds and forward-thinking, but holding everyone to the higher standards this website has (whether it’s unintentional or otherwise) can be emotionally compromising and a bit counterproductive.

  • “You don’t agree with us about so-and-so issue? Ugh we’re done here”.
  • “You don’t conform to our idea of so-and-so? Lol bye.”
  • “You prefer this over that? This is a waste of my time then.”

The end. Roll credits??? That’s not a very satisfying conclusion, in my opinion.

You can’t open new doors for people only to slam it back in their face if they don’t come in right off the bat. Change requires time. Change requires healthy communication and a certain amount of tolerance for it to set in. Change sometimes means accepting the plot of dirt that won’t grow anything, and instead of abandoning it and sticking with an already flourishing pasture, you continue to plant around the plot in hopes that a seed will take root. Most importantly, change requires patience.

“What if there are thorns involved in maintaining this plot of dirt? I don’t want to get hurt, and I don’t want it to hurt anyone else, so wouldn’t it just be better to call this a lost cause?” It would certainly be easier, yes. Not necessarily better. It’s not inherently difficult to shut out all of the crap that’s hard to confront in our lives, but I don’t think people realize the amount of strength and sacrifice it takes to keep working through those obstacles towards the change we so want to see. Or maybe they do realize this, and they just don’t want to put forth that much effort. It’d be more convenient if we had a quick fix for everything, after all.

Well, unfortunately, with how fast-paced and instantaneous everything is in our world today, that’s what we’ve come to expect out of time-sensitive things like our relationships, problem solving, and general social issues. “Everything should just work out in our favor all the time, no questions asked, and no room for any controversy or differing perspectives - a simple, quick, black and white solution!”

This is unreasonable.

As humans beings, we are fully equipped to deal with conflict. We are the most intelligent species on this planet, and this allows us the perseverance and the resolve we need to address problems within ourselves and each other, which helps us build stronger, more meaningful connections. When we choose not to use these assets anymore, they get dull, and at some point we might stop trying to use them altogether. Rather than fight or flight, we’ve settled ourselves into perpetual flight mode, content to live in a rose-tinted world where nothing will harm us, as long as we sidestep everything that has the capability to upset our sense of balance.

Tumblr (along with a vast majority of social media) has done a terribly marvelous job at instilling this stubborn, dismissive attitude in many of its users. Avoiding conflict on the internet is one thing; it’s definitely not a healthy way to treat real world experiences. Physically removing someone or something from your life shouldn’t be as easy as hitting the block button, should it? We want to be all-accepting and make a difference in society, and yet half of the community just stays within itself, opting to jeer or shun or ridicule, rather than reaching out to those who need that change of heart the most.

With that being said, we aren’t exactly helping anyone other than ourselves. This isn’t to say websites like tumblr haven’t changed peoples lives for the better, or sent out good messages, but I feel there’s very little tumblr has done to effect where change really needs to happen. The whole one-strike-and-you’re-out mob mentality makes that prospect a bit difficult to achieve.

I will end by saying that tumblr has helped me grow and connect in ways I never expected, and it’s a great community of individuals at the best of times. People just need to reconsider how their battles are fought and whether they even need to be battles at all, but rather an educational enlightenment for everyone involved. That’s my hope, at least.

“Thank f– goodness, I thought you’d never get here.”

Bellamy smirks and holds his hands out for Sophie, who is babbling and reaching for him. She’s always been a friendly baby– takes after Wells in that respect, he thinks– and he’s been around enough the past few months that she’s used to him, but it always makes him a little smug that she likes him enough to leave her favorite place, which is Clarke’s arms.

“What’s going on?” He asks, wincing when chubby little hands clench at his hair. Clarke makes a tutting noise and works his hair out of Sophie’s grasp, giving her a toy to hold instead. The baby immediately puts the stuffed giraffe’s ear in her mouth, which Bellamy takes as her seal of approval.

“Come inside,” Clarke sighs, running a hand over her disheveled braid and making a face. Hair-pulling has been a pretty common theme lately, just another thing Clarke had to adjust to after being suddenly thrust into parenthood.

Bellamy was a little surprised she wanted to take the kid. Thelonius had kept Sophie for a while immediately after the accident that killed Wells and Maya, but that hadn’t been a permanent solution. He and Clarke had sat down with a social worker, who suggested that Clarke take Sophie on a trial basis, a few months after which they would all decide if it was the right placement for the eight-month-old.

It hasn’t been easy going. Clarke had no idea what to do with a baby, so naturally she’d called in reinforcements (Bellamy for the most part, Abby on occasion). He spent a lot of nights on Clarke’s couch at the beginning, but after a few weeks she decided she needed to be able to handle it more on her own if she was seriously going to consider adopting.

(Bellamy still worries about her, of course, and still comes over all the time, but if he calls it hanging out instead of helping out, she allows it.)

So he’s pretty surprised when he gets an SOS text a week or so before Sophie’s first birthday.

“Seriously,” he says, the baby looking up at him with her big brown eyes, giraffe securely in mouth. “Are you okay?”

“I don’t know.” He can hear the fatigue in her voice more clearly now and it makes him frown. “I had an appointment with Anya today.”

“The social worker?”

“Yeah.” When she sinks to the couch, she pulls her knees up against her chest, smiling a little as Sophie tucks her head under Bellamy’s chin, her eyelids drooping. It’s probably time for her nap soon.

“Did you guys get started on the adoption paperwork?”

“Not exactly.” Clarke bites her lip. “It turns out I might not get to keep her.”
