The moment when one realizes that things will never be the same is bittersweet. As children we rely on the things around us to remain the way they are, our young minds don’t quite understand the concept of change yet we’re impulsive and oblivious to cause and effect. it’s human instinct to crave structure and stability, even if it’s through an illusion, even if it’s merely a reality we create for ourselves. The discovery of what’s perceived as happiness, joy, kindness, trust, and love are vague descriptions of our innermost feelings, those emotions are essential to growth. But for some, their lives are pages from a book torn up and discarded like trash, they feel emotions in a brutal way. Pain, jealousy, anger, sadness, envy, greed—it gets shoved into them, no warning or preparation. Suffocating them until it becomes a desperate means of solitude, the loneliness can be too much to bare really. Turning to materialistic comfort is a common response, as sad as it may be, it helped in some way. Such as cigarettes. You get an exhilarating sense of relaxation when you exhale, knowing it’s bad—when you hold it in your lungs, forcing your body take something so foreign, it’s feigning self-control. Through a tiny white stick he controls his pain and pleasure, through it he found solitude—it was more bitter than sweet.

Everything happened so fast.

He didn’t know what he was going to do from here, it didn’t help that he hasn’t had a blink of sleep. A cigarette sat in the ashtray and he left his quarters to check on his men. Some of them were patching up the wounded, they even lost a few men, so the faint sound of weeping was heard at every other corner. How a man could look upon the friends of the people he let die wasn’t a natural talent, this type of inhumanity had to be formed. Those people just happened to be casualties, you win some, you lose some.

People die under you, that’s one of the high prices you pay as the boss.

When it all comes down to it, the truth is, they signed up for this—if it’s for the boss, you risk it all…or not at all. They knew that when they joined.

Hoseok went AWOL last night, he came back early this morning but that was only to freshen up so he could go out again. He had speculations on Hoseok’s stance in all of this, hell, he has speculations about his own stance on the situation. Jin’s response to all of this was the most surprising, he was so levelheaded and prepared as if he orchestrated the whole thing. Jin had always been the sneaky type, not completely honest with everything but that was understandable. It’s not like he grew up surrounded by people he trusts. In order to survive, he had to keep his guard up. Jin managed to come in and set his own rules into play. He didn’t know whether to be thankful or furious about it.

Speaking of Jin, not even five minutes ago he called him to his office and he has yet to come. He likes to think of himself as a patient man but now is not the time to keep him waiting. The guy he sent came back alone. “Boss, he said he’ll be here in a minute.” He swallowed, Yoongi’s stare is far too threatening to not be nervous around.

He had the audacity to make me wait, unbelievable. It doesn’t matter whose the oldest in this relationship. This whole organization is on Yoongi’s back. He has to have an answer for everything, he has to know everything—he doesn’t take that lightly, he can’t afford to. He has to stay calm, no matter what, and that was an overwhelming responsibility sometimes, more than they would know.

“Tell him that I said I want him in here, now.” He was stern, eyeing the kid at the door.

“O-okay sir.”

Like a puppy off to fetch a tennis ball, he ran off.

Yoongi grabbed the pack of cigarettes, his pale fingers pulling at the pack to slip out one of the white sticks. He didn’t rush, he secured it between his lips and held up to the white lighter. When it caught flame, he took a deep breath and exhaled, this was his third one today. Jin walked into the room, a look of impatience on his face.

Yoongi inhaled, taking another puff of the cigarette before saying anything. “You had a whole operation going down and when it’s over is when I find out.” He sat the cigarette in the ashtray.

“How long has this been going on Seokjin? How long were you planning to leave me in the dark about this?”

Jin simply shrugged. “I didn’t make a decision any different than you would’ve. You should be thankful. Namjoon is on his knees, Jaebums gang is halfway in hiding and I have my little sister. Yoongi, you know how these things go.” He ran his hand through his locks, giving Yoongi a knowing look.

“No, I don’t actually. Enlighten me.”

“If I wouldn’t have done what I did she’d probably be dead right now! You don’t understand Yoongi…Namjoon won’t stop, ever…He’ll keep trying to go after me and now her, and to be honest it’s partly your fault.” He sneered, not really caring if that pissed Yoongi off, it was true.

My fault? So I’m supposed to be your fucking savior or some shit? I didn’t know she fucking existed until Hoseok and Jimin brought her ass here. But that girl isn’t the problem, you are.” Yoongi grumbled, already fiddling with his favorite dagger to ease his stress—it wasn’t working. “Why are you doing this Jin?”

“Yoongi, do you not understand the concept of doing a bad thing for a good reason?” Jin was sort of tickled, amused at his robin hood philosophy.

“Yeah, I do. But it’s you who doesn’t seem to remember your role here. I made this group, from the ground up. I've carried it on my back since I was 18. I call the shots. Not because one day I thought, ‘oh you know what, I think I’ll be the leader today.’ No. Because I earned it, I earned the right to say what goes, not you hyung.” He sounded pretty irritated already. Jin was just waiting for him to be finished so he could get out of here. Yoongi is just blowing hot air, this was nothing he hasn’t heard already, he thought to himself.

“I really don’t know why you felt the need to interfere, I had it under control. He wouldn’t have killed the girl just yet, I knew that. I knew it the whole time. Kim Namjoon is still dramatic if you haven’t noticed, he’d put her through hell before you have to mourn her death.”

“I wasn’t gonna wait around for that to happen. I wasn’t wasting any more time if it meant leaving her with him any longer. She was second priority to you but not me. Namjoon had my little sister Yoongi, she’s not just some girl, she’s my flesh and blood and he knew that the moment he decided to keep her.” That very sentence appalled him, his stomach twisting in disgust. “He’s a weed—he’s cancerous, he needs to be cut out. And you can’t cut without causing a few abrasions.” Jin was serious, Yoongi knew all of those things to be partly true, but Namjoon used to be his best friend. Even now, Namjoon was almost the same, nobody really changed significantly. Jimin, Taehyung, Hoseok, they were all just like he remembered. Just more…broken. They can’t stand each other now. The feeling of hatred was more than mutual, friendship was a distant memory between the two gangs that once worked in harmony. “If it was your mother, you would’ve done the same thing Yoongi, maybe even worse.”

Yoongi gave him the dirtiest look, he knew not to bring her up, Jin was the only exception right now.

“People were killed, on both sides. Two explosions in two highly populated mafia territories, we didn’t go unnoticed.” Yoongi kept his anger at bay, the cigarettes were working this time. He would never say it aloud but knowing Jin could execute a plan that was so complex and to do it without his knowledge, made him feel disrespected.

“The police aren’t on our backs because of the relationship we have with the chief. Most arrests regarding our men, he let’s slide and I’d like to keep it that way.” Yoongi tapped the cigarette in the ashtray, a smirk coming to his lips, Jin wasn’t sure what he was thinking. “Seo will want more answers. He will start calling eventually, but I’m gonna tell him to take it up with you. You’re responsible for the mess anyway.”

“You’ve never been the type to back down Yoongi, don’t tell me you’re…scared?” Jin laughed, he literally thought that the mere thought was funny. To see Yoongi, the man with a never-changing expression, afraid of something? That was impossible. By the dark look in Yoongi’s eyes he realized now was no time to tease him.

“Ugh-” He gasped. Before he knew it Yoongi was around the table and pressing a knife against his neck, an intense look on his face. “Yoongi.” Jin swallowed with some difficulty.

Min Yoongi wasn’t as still as water, not all the time. There are a few things you better not say or you will regret the moment you opened your lips.

“Let’s get one thing fucking straight, I don’t have a scared bone in my body Hyung, not one. I don’t fear anyone, not you, not Namjoon, not even my own maniac of a father who caused every mental and physical pain you could think of to his only son by the time I was fifteen…” Yoongi scoffed retracting the knife as Jin was almost at a loss for words. Yoongi scoffed. “You have some nerve. I suggest you drop this high and mighty attitude before this knife is through your neck, damn it.” He sneered.

He sighed, straightening up his freshly pressed suit. The visual image of what Yoongi threatened had him touch his neck subconsciously and cringe. “Yoongi, you’re tense, I understand that really I do. But just think about it, think about this group, think about the people involved…This is the game Yoongi, no one plays by the rules, you know that better than anyone.” Yoongi just stared at him, a stoic expression plastered on his face as Jin slowly exited out of the room.

He really did know that better than anyone—almost too well.

anonymous asked:

An older teenage Ork enters your temple, seeking atonement for the life their herd made them live. What advice, if any, would you give them?

Brother Andrew looks around him at the temple.  He always loves visiting the old sites; such history and community displaying the continuity of his faith.  A few parishioners greet him.  He is not here enough to remember all of their names, but he has mental notes reminding himself who they are; “Recently Widowed,” “Lost a Child,” “Insincere Dinner Invitation,” “Sickly Farmer.”   He hopes it is not cynical to recognize that while the faces change from year to year and decade to decade, the hearts do not.  Some people come for guidance, others for charity, still others looking for little more than social standing or business contacts.  While the people may change and the surfact circumstances may vary, he looks at the ornate depictions around him of stained glass and statues, and he is comforted by their consistency; unchanged since he was a small child.

He notices other attendants whispering to each other and looking pointedly at a corner of the narthex.  He notices that a young ork is standing quietly to himself, while the humans around him give each other raised eye brows and knowing glances.  But Brother Andrew sees no sign of the bloodlust or terror that are supposed to be the hallmark of that people.  He sees no pillager or rampager or render of flesh… he sees only a broken child, looking for comfort in a place whose hallowed rafters have doubtlessly rung with a condemnation of ork-kind.  Brother Andrew is again reminded that the places where he finds comfort don’t always offer comfort to others.

The ork stands before a statue, barely daring to look at it.  Wet eyes attempt to bore a hole straight through the marble floor it seems, and Brother Andrew wonders if the rarity of ork tears would make them a potent addition to some mystic potion.  As the cleric walks beside the ork, the other parishioners seem to hold their breath to listen in.  Brother Andrew looks at the statue before them and asks aloud, “Do you know her name?”

The ork startles at the words, and then waits to see if the cleric adds anything else.  This is not the first time he has been addressed in the temple, but it is the first time the voice was this gentle.  The ork clenches his jaw, reluctant to leave his spot, but knowing that an altercation would only prove how unfit he is to be here.

“Justice,” he finally admits.

“Yes,” says Brother Andrew.  “She’s pretty famous.  You can’t miss her with those scales of hers.  She’s always got them around somewhere.  You know what they’re for?”

“She weighs the deeds of mortals, to see if their good deeds outweigh their evilness.  If not…”

Brother Andrew interrupts him, “Enough about her.  Did you know she has a sister?”

The ork turns to the cleric for the first time.  He was not expecting a change of subject, nor for the cleric to look so suggestive.  The small audience that was watching him and Brother Andrew would find Justice the perfect topic to point out to an ork, and the penitent knows it.  Justice is why he is here.  Justice is why he is fearful of this place, but Justice is also why he is drawn here.  He knows which way his own scales lean; he knows his own personal history and what Justice demands of him; he remembers the screams and blood and the fury.  And for all those reasons, he knows what Justice demands.

“What’s your name, son?”

“…Adrud.” Nobody in this place had ever asked his name before.

“Well Adrud, let me show you another statue.  If you’ve got a thing for Justice and swords, you’ll probably like this one.  It’s actually one of my favorites.”

Adrud turns hesitantly to follow Brother Andrew.  He knows this is all the precursor to condemnation.  He knows this will eventually lead to a reminder of what the orks have done, of what he has done, and why he deserves retribution.  But by his own actions he has earned that condemnation.  He deserves no less than judgement.  He has condemned himself as much if not more than anyone else.

As the pair travel across the floor to the transept, Brother Andrew ignores the gasps and whispers as people watch an ork enter the space reserved for the faithful.  Some assume he is escorting the ork out of the temple and are grateful, while others are disappointed he is being so gentle with the brute.  All are relieved when they turn the corner and are out of sight.

In the eastern transept, Brother Andrew stops and looks at another statue.  Adrud steps alongside him and looks up.

“Like I said, she has a sister. She’s not one of the headliners; few will write songs in her name, and nobody is going to war in her honor.  But Clementia is one of my favorites.”

“Clementia…?”  The ork had never heard the name before.

“Yeah, sometimes it’s translated as ‘Mercy’ or ‘Forgiveness.’  Or ‘Redemption.’  She and Justice are sisters, but sometimes they don’t really get along.“

The young ork looks at the sword and staff held by Justice.  “Where are her scales?”

“Oh yeah, a lot of people miss that at first.  Look under Clementia’s left foot.”  The scales under Clementia’s foot were broken and discarded.  “Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to Justice.  She definitely has her place.  Without her, we couldn’t have a civilized society.  But the same goes for her sister.  The trick is knowing that, sometimes, the scales aren’t actually helping, and you just have to throw them away.”

“But… but then how… didn’t you say her name was ‘Redemption?’“

“Oh yeah, absolutely.  So how do you achieve redemption if you don’t have a scale?  That’s the trick, isn’t it?  See, actual redemption isn’t about doing enough ‘good’ stuff that it makes up for the ‘bad’ stuff.  The truth is, nobody could ever get ‘redeemed’ that way.  No amount of good deeds will bring a person back to life if they’ve been murdered.  No amount of good deeds will erase a victim’s trauma after being attacked.  I mean sure, if you steal some money you can give that much money back, but violence… violence doesn’t work that way.”

The ork once again turns his face downward as his eyes begin to well up.  “So… there’s no hope.”

“What?!  Of course there’s hope.  They’d toss me out on the street and suspend my preacher’s license if I ran around telling people ‘there’s no hope!’  Of course there’s hope!  And that’s it right there.”  With that he pointed at the broken scales beneath Clementia’s foot.  “The hope is to stop playing with the scales.  The hope is to stop weighing and re-weighing and re-re-weighing your sins, hoping that maybe someday you’ll make up for it.”

The ork’s face looked at Brother Andrew in confusion.  “But… isn’t that a little too… easy?”

Brother Andrew smiled, “Oh absolutely it is.  And it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do.  See, Justice demands that our sins and guilt be weighed and that punishment is meted out.  And you can live your life in service to Justice, and many do.  But, as the sacred text says, ‘…All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.‘  Living your life in service of Clementia is nothing like living it in service of Justice. But that is the choice you have to make.

“You have to admit that you can’t do anything to make up for your past misdeeds.  You can’t undo all those terrible things, and you have to admit that you’ve got to stop trying.  To truly be redeemed, you realize that you aren’t the one that tips Justice’s scales.  You must rely on somebody else to take away the scales, break them under foot, and say that you are good enough just as you are.”

Adrud looked at Clementia; the desperate pleading in her face, the gentle but firm touch in her fingers, and the defiant steadfastness of her stance over the scales.  “Does she have devotees?”

“Absolutely.  Come, I’ll introduce you to some of your brothers and sisters.”

museme87  asked:

I LOVED all the drabbles you posted over at AO3! The head!canon of Jesus hitting the clubs is just, yes. I've had that as my personal head!canon for awhile now, and I was so pleased to see it written a little into fic! I've often wanted a fic where Jesus/Aaron/Eric are all talking about previous clubbing experiences before, and Daryl (stuck in the car with them) is just totally wtf. A Gay Squad head!canon, if you will lol.

1) Thank you so so much!

2) I tried.

Daryl was going to do it. He wasn’t a fucking coward and he was going to say something. Being gay was fine now, there was no reason to be afraid of saying something, coming out.

So Daryl was going to.

It was fine. Besides, the other three men in the car liked dick, too. This should be easy, a practice round for when other people inevitably found out—Carol and Maggie and shit, Rick.

Hell, Daryl’d known Eric and Aaron for almost two years, they’d probably already guessed. They weren’t really the point, though.

Jesus was the point. For reasons he didn’t care to examine too closely, Daryl wanted Jesus to know.

Jesus, sitting there with his hair in some kind of knot on top of his head, bright eyes crinkled with laughter at Eric’s story about some gay bar they’d both been to in D.C. Must have been a pretty sleazy joint; Daryl felt his eyebrows climbing higher and higher as they talked. Apparently Eric had been kinda wild before settling down, but Aaron didn’t seem to mind. He was laughing even harder than Jesus.

Some of the details made Daryl want to bail out of the car and take his chances walking to Oceanside. He knew his ears and neck were bright red; Jesus kept glancing at them.

After what felt like an eternity, Eric’s story about watermelon-flavored lube, two drag queens, and a runaway groom with a limousine finally wound down. Seizing the moment, Daryl stuttered out, “Weren’t stuff like that where I’m from.”

Beside him, Jesus just smirked and shook his head. “Daryl, I assure you gay people lived in rural Georgia, too. We blend in pretty well when we aren’t out clubbing in rainbow gear and stilettos.”

Daryl willed himself to spit it out. Say it. Fucking say it. “I know. I blended in, too.”

Eric broke in, “He didn’t mean it like that.”

Jesus shrugged, sitting back a little. He threw a half smile at Daryl. “It’s fine, it’s fine. Let’s stop talking about our misspent youth, though, or Daryl’s ears will be permanently dyed red.”

“Jesus,” Aaron admonished softly.

Desperately, Daryl spoke over him. “Just meant there weren’t bars like-”

“I’m sure there were-”

“Nah,” Daryl interrupted, going for broke. “Not near me. Not when I was young.”

Silence filled the car. Daryl would have liked to look at Jesus’s expression, but found he suddenly couldn’t move his eyes from the window. The coast flew by unseen.

“Did you… check?” Aaron asked carefully.

“Yeah,” Daryl replied, still looking out the window.

The awful silence returned, and for a second Daryl would have given his right arm to go back in time, even if it meant enduring Eric’s raunchy story again.

Then Jesus piped up, “Well that’s a damn shame. We’re going to fix this.”

Nonplussed, Daryl turned to look at the man beside him. Jesus was smiling and his eyes were kind. His voice, though, was very insistent. “Oh, you heard me, Dixon. When we get back to Alexandria you’re getting the full gay bar experience. We’ll get Tara in on it, maybe find some lasers, a fog machine…”

“We can all wear something naughty? Fishnet shirts and short shorts?” Eric said, turning fully around in the front seat to face Daryl with a grin. Aaron sent him a quelling look, the effect somewhat spoiled by his own soft smile.

The image of Jesus in that getup crossed his mind and Daryl thought his ears might actually catch fire. “No. Fuck no.”

But Jesus was nodding along. “Exactly! It’ll be fun. I’ll make Slippery Nipples-”

“Make what?” Daryl asked, aghast.

“It’s a cocktail. And we’ll dance to Madonna.”

Daryl stared in horror and Jesus cracked up, doubled over with his hands covering his face.

Christ. The little shit was fucking with him. “You’re such an asshole.”

“I really am,” Jesus agreed with a cheerful wink. “But not as much as this one guy I hooked up with at this club in L.A., let me tell you, the sex was ah-mazing but when I woke up the next morning…”

Daryl cringed and blushed the whole time, but couldn’t stop himself from chuckling as Jesus described waking up on the beach covered in glitter and missing his car keys.

Love our hollywood talk. You said & i've seen it from others too that cheryl would keep him until she doesn't need him anymore. How a recluse of celebrity *she may has more years and connections & simon as "bff"* has such power over a celeb like Liam? He gets only the bearding while she gets promo, name regognition, bearding, fame boost. Leo's beards never overtook his fame & he dated gisele, lively. Same with clooney. Only amal did but it's his doing for preparing his political route

Wow! Slow down my Anon! But first of all, Good Morning!!!

The reason I asked you to slow down, my Nonnie, is that you compare totally incomparable “sizes” of celebrity….. Leo is an A+ lister while Liam (leg’s be honest) is not…. Leo carries the ‘recognition’ of great talent from a young age, while Liam carries the stigma of a boybander, and one who came out of a TV reality…… Plus, all these years he was rather unmentioned (despite his great VOCAL contribution), so people (the GP) are learning about him through the artcles concerning Cheryl, and in a less than flattering way….

It’s funny, and I’ve said it many times, I have many friends (of my age and cultural level) who hate 1D without having heard any of their work, just on a principle. The funny part is that whenever we’re in my car and I chose the music, whenever they hear something by 1D (mainly by MM, FOUR and MITAM) they genuinely like as long as they don’t know who the artist is. When they hear the '1D’ words, they turn sour….

But to come back to Liam (and the other Boys too) I think (and this is my personal opinion but I can’t prove it) that Cowell has too much “dirt” on them. Remeber how young they were when they left their families and homes to go onto XFactor and later on the road. These Boys needed to develop a coping mechanism with what was going on (the tough schedule, the public image etc) while they were in their late teen years. Considering what we know of showbiz (and of other X Factor related artists), I think that drugs and sex were used. And I think that there’s evidence of these 'transgressions’.

This, along with the conditioning done to them about how grateful they should be to Cowell for taking them away from their 'blue collar’ families and a life where they’d live hand to mouth and making them stars and rich etc (which is BS cause they made their money with their very hard work), is what keeps them tied to Cowell.

I know I can’t prove what I wrote earlier, but I do have certain indications. First of all, I’m one of those who don’t buy the theory of the Boys leaking the weedgate video back in May 2014. They are not stupid, they had to know that there would be serious repercussions (and we saw them). Also, when Harry (mainly) and the othr Boys became very vocal during the promo period of FOUR (where Zayn 'lost’ a day, God only knows about the power play behind the scenes) and we were hoping for a more leniant policy, we went to Zayn not making it to Orlando and the official presentation of Four, and the firing/resignation of Paul Higgins which -for me- had a domino effect and led to what happened in the spring of 2015, the facts as presented to us (Zayn leaving, Liam being joined at hip with his Beard and the photos showing him looking totally done, Louis being photographed with drugs and the photos sent to the press, Harry not talking to them and coming to blows and Niall being generally happy and not having an idea what was going on).

So, these incidences along with the fact ghat ALL 5 BOYS are one way or another connected to 1DHQ (hello Simon!), with Louis and Niall having the most obvious connections (through label/publicist/management), but Harry and Zayn having the same label (harry having a bit more liberty) and working with people connected to it, and Liam being in a different label and with a different team but working with the same people that work with Cowell, opening the X Factor lives (he is one one who brought more specators to the X Factor and not the other way around) and of course practically working to promote Cheryl.

Just my opinion (and I’m sorry for writing such a long reply, it’s that damn Mercury in Gemini, it talks a mile a minute, 😂😂😂). Enjoy your Sunday!

since I've read your many rants (and also loved them so dont stop pls) about how unfairly Dick treated Tim when he chose Damian over him, what do you think would be the best course of action for the three of them to not end up hatting each other? like, what do you think they should have done instead of ... what they did... Should Dick still choose Damian? should tim have stayed?? I would love to know what you think

The thing that is so aggravating is that a lot of Tim’s angst within the Batfam could have been avoided. I’m not sure if it was negligence on DC’s part, choosing to focus on the Dick/Dami duo or if they really, really wanted to make Tim’s life a living hell. So bad things were already happening to Tim which couldn’t be avoided (IE everyone dying) but Dick/Alfred/superhero community could have been so much better.

1. Fucking Talk to Tim- Like honestly?? Dick literally stripped Robin away from Tim without much ceremony. I get that Dick had his own problems and I get that he thought that Damian needed Robin. But, dammit, Dick should have known how painful it was to have a beloved family member fire you for no reason. That’s the entire reason Dick/Bruce were estranged for awhile, and you thought Tim would react well to you doing the exact same thing??? Dick should have sat down and explained what he was doing and why and asked for Tim’s help and understanding. Tim might’ve been a little hurt but with the explanation and some understanding, he would have been better off giving up his title.

2. Believe Tim about Bruce- or at least treat him better. Tim is not some crazy nut who makes up theories. The batfam and the superhero community knows this, therefore when Tim comes forward (with reasonable evidence!) That Bruce was still alive, they should have at least heard him out. Half the League has died and come back, it’s not that unreasonable. Even if they didn’t believe him, they should have offered care and support and allowed Tim to search and work out his grief keeping in touch with him and junk. Dick literally said Dick was crazy maybe even some talk of putting him in Arkham which is so disrespectful I want to spit.

3. Keep in mind that Tim was suffering, a lot- Tim has been through the fucking wringer that year between Steph, his dad, Kon, Bart, Bruce. Like I know Dick was devastated by the loss of his adoptive father and was grieving on his own plus taking up the Bat mantle but gee Dick, multiply your hurt by 5 and take away your support system and see how you’re doing then? The Family did a pretty shit job of giving Tim any support during that difficult time. Like I understand Damian needed care and support too but honestly Dick and Alfred’s vision narrowed right down to the baby bat cutting out a lot of care and attention to the others (though to be fair, Jay was waaaaaay off the reservation at the time)

TL;DR: If the family/heroes had talked to Tim about giving up his title, listened to him in regards to Bruce’s possible survival and was more open and attentive over Tim’s mounting pile of tragedies, our boy would be in a much better place physically and emotionally. They really failed him, it wouldn’t have been that difficult to care for both Tim and Dami but the choice was made and I think it will affect Tim’s relationships with them for a very, very long time after. Once people you trusted implicitly treat you like that, there’s always the possibility it’ll happen again.

“Americano, your favourite.” He places the steaming drink in front of you as he sits down. His presence was captivating, that’s what you noticed one thing about Jung Hoseok. How he moves and how he carries himself, it was confident and often earned glances from other girls. However, he was still able to maintain a bright aura that made him friendly and easy to approach. It was appalling to you how you became associated with someone like him, a person with a status like his. Although, you’ve noticed major changes in yourself as well, bringing you back to when you first stood in front of a full-length mirror since your awake.

Mouth gasping lightly at the image reflecting off the mirror, the person that was staring right back at you was unrecognizable. The apparent baby fat on your cheeks have disappeared, along with your asymmetrically bob cut that you’ve been trying to fix since your second year. Instead, it was replaced with long and wavy locks that flowed to your chest. The healthy amount of body weight you used to carry is now gone, making your petite frame apparent.

The biggest change though, was the fact that the stranger’s eyes looked almost dead.

Tears unconsciously rolled down, staining your pretty cheeks as your lips quivered. You hazily brought your hands to your face, softly touching the wetness of your tears. Lost and confused to why you suddenly started crying, you ask the reflection.

“What on earth happened to you, Y/N?”

Then a familiar dull pain overwhelms you.

“Pardon?” Hoseok shifts in his seat, leaning closer to you to catch what you were saying.

“I…I didn’t know that I liked to drink Americano.” You stare at the hot black liquid in the cup, before finding Hoseok’s look of surprise plastered on his face.

“You’d never go on a day without a cup though, saying that the other drinks are too high in calories.” He ponders for a while, then stands up and smiles brightly at you. “I’ll get you a new drink then, what would you like?”

You shake your head frantically, “No! It’s fine really, I’m alright with drinking this. I just- I seem to have forgotten a lot of things.” Before you could bring the cup to your lips to take a sip, a hand grabs the coffee out of your hold.

“What kind of a boyfriend would I be if I can’t even get my girl’s favorite drink right?” Hoseok grins at you and light pinches your cheeks. You were about to refuse by reaching for the cup but he pulls it even further out of your reach. “Now tell me what you want before I order every drink on the menu.” He mischievously warns you, eyes crinkling into crescent moons.

So... I've asked a few people this and I wondered what your thoughts would be on Daphne. What do you think it says about her that she married a relative stranger with no memory of who he was? She looked at Emmanuel with such affection, do you think she really loved him? Cas stated in 9x03 that it was his first time, why do you think he never consummated their marriage? Tell me what you felt and thought about Daphne in general. Bonus question: What did you make her her resemblance to Dean?

Nonny, sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this, but am I ever glad that I didn’t just throw out a random answer because Daphne is a character that I had never really noticed because I was too busy freaking out that Cas was back thought much about before  and it has been really interesting to do analysis on her.

We are first introduced to her as a character during Dean’s phone call with Mackey:  “Heard the best way to get to him is through his wife, Daphne, out in Colorado. So I go. Tell her I’m going blind. It’s true. My right eye’s burnt out.  She says, ‘Go home; he’ll come.’”

This was where my spidey sense started tingling because doesn’t something about that sentence feel a little off?  It’s not that Mackey actually met them together.  Instead, she is presumably living in Colorado while her husband is off healing the people that she sends him to.  Keep that in mind for later.

It’s interesting that our first glimpse of Daphne is when she sees Dean out the window as she is tied up, which first clues him in on the fact that something isn’t right about the situation.  After Dean dispatches of the demon, Emmanuel walks up to discover a dead demon on his front porch and the man who just killed it at the top of the steps.

We aren’t shown the following minute, but in the next shot, Emmanuel is untying Daphne and this fascinating conversation takes place.

Emmanuel: “That creature hurt you.”

Daphne: “I’m okay. But, Emmanuel… They were looking for you.”
Emmanuel:“It’s okay. I’m Emmanuel.”

Dean: “Dean. I’m…Dean.”
Emmanuel:“Thank you for protecting my wife.”

Dean: “Your wife. Right.”
Emmanuel: “I saw his face. His real face.”

Dean:“He was a demon.”
Emmanuel:“A demon walked the Earth.”

Dean: “Demons. Whackloads of them. You don’t know about…?”

Daphne: “You saw the demon’s true face. [to Dean] Emmanuel has very special gifts.”

Dean: “Yeah. I-I’ve heard that about… Emmanuel. That you can heal people up.”

Now, presumably, untying Daphne is the first thing that he did upon coming in the door, which makes sense, but Emmanuel doesn’t react how a married man would after seeing his wife in that kind of situation.  He is much too calm and spends more time talking to the man who showed up on his doorstep and killed someone, while barely even glancing at her.  Another interesting thing that I noticed was the way they touch each other.  Emmanuel grabs her hand to help her up, and doesn’t let go of it for another minute as he leads her over to where Dean is standing. She, on the other hand, grabs him as soon as her arms are free, strokes his face, and then rests her hand on his chest while he is talking.

Everything about this scene screams unrequited love to me.  As does this conversation that Dean and Castiel have in the car about her:

Dean: “So, Daphne – is that, uh, your wife?”
Emmanuel: “She found me and cared for me.”

Dean: “Meaning?”
Emmanuel: “Oh, it’s a…strange story. You may not like it.”

Dean: “
Believe me, I will.”
Emmanuel:  “A few months ago, she was hiking by the river, and I wandered into her path, drenched and confused, and… unclothed. I had no memory. She said… God wanted her to find me.”

Dean: “
So who named you Emmanuel?”
Emmanuel: “Bouncybabynames.com.”

Dean: “Well, it’s working for you. Must be weird not knowing who you are.”
Emmanuel: “Well, it’s my life. And it’s a good life.”

Dean asks about his wife and Emmanuel’s first response is that she found and cared for him?   Nothing about that even remotely suggests love to me, at least not on his part.  Which leads me to my point, I don’t think that Emmanuel and Daphne were ever married.  Nothing about their relationship suggests to me that they were, and they were only living together for a few months, which would be a very short amount of time for her to be able to legally marry a man who had no proper identification.  I know that she is referred to as his wife numerous times throughout the episode - but honestly, I’ve known lots of women who have referred to the men that they lived with as their husbands even though they weren’t married. They may have lived together, but as I mentioned above, it seems as though they weren’t actually together that much; instead he was out healing people.

As for them having sex, I never thought that they did and I suppose I’m No Angel canonically proves that.  There are several reasons why this might never have happened. Maybe she truly believed that God had brought Castiel across her path and saw him more as her mission than as someone to make love to.  Or maybe she was hoping that he would fall in love with her and make the first move.   Since he had no memories at the time, I’m very glad that the show didn’t even seem to hint at a physical relationship between them. There have been enough dubcon relationships on this show without adding this to the list.

I think that Sera Gamble (I miss that genius as a writer on the show!)  intended to use her as a clear parallel for Dean - which would explain why they look so much alike - because we get to see how much more his feelings for Dean are than for anyone else on the planet.  When Dean comes back into his life, it’s as though his wife barely exists anymore and he chooses to leave right away with this stranger.  Then of course, there is the scene where he gains back his memory as he smites the demons and all the important memories that we see are about Dean, at which point he turns around and tells Dean exactly where his priorities lie two simple sentences, “I remember you. I remember everything.” Because Dean always has and always will come before everything else in Castiel’s existence.

Back to Daphne for a moment though.  I do think that she was a provision from God or whoever else (I personally have a headcanon that Death is the one that brought Castiel back in Season Seven) raised Castiel from the dead.  Castiel was depressed, crazy, and suicidal upon regaining his memory (partially from taking on Sam’s madness, but more from remembering his actions) and I think that he was remade without them so that he would be able to have a brief time of rest from the knowledge of what he had done, who he was, and why one human was so important.

I do think that she cared for Castiel though and I actually have this head-canon that he went to visit her sometime after Reading is Fundamental, while he was still Crazy!Cas, only to discover every trace of their former life gone.  She would have been just one more mystery to add to his long list of questions about why he has been resurrected over and over.

Hey, I really enjoy your SPN metas. I was curious about your view on the W. brothers' childhood. Or, about one specific detail about it, anyways - I agree the rest is canon or implied through the characters' actions throughout the show. How do you know John was an alcoholic? I've seen many interpretations, but as far as I've heard he's never been seen drinking on the show. Is it your (and many others') headcanon or do you know something for real? Please tell :)

Hey - again, thanks for your question - I apologize if I couldn’t get on it right away. So, the truth is - I love writing fanfiction, and I do enjoy writing metas as well, but I haven’t been in the fandom very long (and never knew what belonging to a fandom even meant until last year) and trying to do some research into this question really reminded me of that. Because, I have to admit, I never even thought about this issue, but apparently there is a fierce, brutal divide between people who see John as an abusive drunk in canon and people who don’t - and this divide seems to run, rather neatly, along the fault line of that other split in our fandom (which means, quite honestly, that most of what I read about John today I simply can’t take very seriously).

No, I think it all boils down to - once again - what we do with our subtext. Do we see it? Do we believe it? Do we think it’s there for a reason?

If the answer to those questions is no, then John is - sort of alright. Sure, he did leave his boys alone now and then, and Sam and Dean didn’t have the easiest relationship with him, but we never saw him drunk or violent on screen, and that’s that.

Do you think that Pike behaves more like someone who has been radicalized rather than a dictator? I know a lot of people see him that was but I don't feel that's right. Not that this is excusing him for any actions, but I feel like in the same way terrorists are radicalized bc they're vulnerable he was bc of what he experienced. His actions are still wrong and he perhaps does become more authoritarian as he gains power but that wasn't what he originally intended?

OH ANON, MY FAVORITE ANON buckle up because I have got some Thoughts on this topic.

To start off, a caveat: the way Pike’s story unfolded (particularly in 3A) is pretty shaky. The bones of an amazing arc and character are there, but the narrative doesn’t place enough weight on Pike’s concerns or the very real threats Arkadia is facing; the show itself focuses heavily on the violence Pike is capable of until 3B, so I don’t mean to mount a full-throated defense of the show’s handling of Pike. I do, however, mean to mount that defense when it comes to Pike as a character.

That said, I think it’s important to look at the political setup on the Ark. They’re rocking something of a Totalitarian democracy as it is. As far as I can suss out, the people elect their chancellor, who then holds close to unilateral power. The only check on the chancellor is the council–a council that incoming chancellor appoints. Then you have the Exodus Charter, which gives the chancellor the right to treat any crime as a felony. That’s a recipe for some truly effed up politics.

All the chancellors we’ve seen have been fine with making life and death choices based on their own agenda. Jaha and Abby both display a level of comfort with authoritarian rule–I adore Abby, but she’s no less guilty of “it’s my way because I have the pin, now do what I told you to do” way of governance than the rest of our motley chancellor crew. Pike absolutely sees himself as the ultimate authority once the pin is his, but that’s because… well, he is. I have a lot of feelings about how his arc went down in the narrative, but in terms of “what is going on in that shiny, shiny head of yours, Charles Pike” it pretty much scans.

For a concrete example of this, Pike’s order of execution is often spun as being beyond the pale or “out of nowhere”, but that’s not only pretty typical, it’s one of the few actions Pike takes that I will categorically defend. Quite obviously, as a viewer I didn’t want Pike to win and get three of my favorite characters killed, but Kane didn’t truss him up to hand him over to the grounders so they could have a stirring debate or play a game of checkers. He was, in essence, playing an active part the assassination of his legally elected chancellor. If Pike had gone after Abby rather than Indra’s army in 3A, I can’t imagine that we’d say he shouldn’t be punished in whatever way she deemed necessary. The same applies here. It wasn’t the outcome I wanted as a viewer, but from a dispassionate standpoint Pike is the one with the law on his side.

There was a scene left on the cutting room floor where Pike begged Kane to recant and allow Pike to save him, and I wish to God it had been left in. Showing the audience that Pike was ready to pass the sentence and swing the sword and that he tried to find another way before going to the worst option on the table would have made the choice land as less cold and more the only choice he felt was left to him.

This is where I think they fell down most. Pike can seem cold or dictatorial because the narrative doesn’t emphasize that these choices aren’t ones he makes lightly, and because the show doesn’t spend enough time walking the walk that it’s factually wrong but entirely reasonable to view the world through his myopic lens.

The massacre of Indra’s army is the most egregious example of that second issue (and the one I would full-stop get rid of if I had a hand in the writing) but the lack of emphasis later on, say, the fact that Pike wanted to take that village’s land because Arkadia genuinely needs it to survive made him seem violent and arbitrary to many viewers, rather than a desperate man taking desperate measures.

The way I look at the Charles Pike who rolls up on Arkadia is best summed up through a ridiculous analogy, but go with me. Let’s say you’ve never heard of blonds before. Not just haven’t met one, but didn’t even think they were a thing. Then you find out a bunch of kids you feel personally responsible for have been killed by these mysterious blonds. You lose contact with all those kids, so who knows what happened to them, and then it’s your turn to go meet these blonds.

The first interaction you have with blonds yourself ends in dead children. Then for nearly half a year, they try and kill you and everybody you love. They’re the boogeyman, for all intents and purposes, and by the time you find your friends again, every single blond person you’ve met has tried aggressively to murder your face right off. So, being a logical person who still would rather not die, you make it clear that blonds are super dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.

Your buddy is like, “No! I promise, your empirical evidence is wrong. You were just around the wrong blonds, our blonds are friendly.”

You’re skeptical, but you go with it because he’s your friend and hey, maybe he’s right and you’ve just been hanging with the wrong crowd. Then more than half the people you managed to drag out of the wilderness (including the last remaining children) die in an explosion set off by those pesky blonds. You go to your friend like “so, we can agree I’m right now, yes? Because of how I was just proved right?” and he not only tells you you’re still wrong, he tells you that you’re not allowed to do anything about all those people who just died. How ready are you to listen to your friend once everybody votes and they give you a mandate to lead as you see fit?

Tldr: I think the question of “is Pike a dictator” ends up more or less moot by virtue of every chancellor being a dictator. The argument is a valid one, but he’s no more or less dictatorial than Jaha or even Abby.

Sorry I saw your rant on that Japanese feminism post or what not but you mentioned your friend from Japan telling you the difference between their anime fandom and our's and, if you wouldn't mind, could you explain a bit? I've always been Really curious about how it is there. Sorry if this has been asked already!

What are you sorry for? I love sharing experiences and information! Though, I am not sure I can relay what my friend said 100%… But I’ll try to.

First of all, Japanese Anime/Manga/Games Fandom is not as inclusive as western Fans tend to think it is. While there’s overall less flame wars and internet rudeness and 2Chan is definitely tamer than 4Chan (I heard Futaba can be quite dangerous, though), this is mostly because the “clique” mentality is even more developed than in the west. In the West, if you’re an Anime Fan, you’ll be interacting with pretty much all types of Anime Fans. In Japan, Fans of a certain genre keep to fans of a certain genre and women keep to women and men keep to men. Also, Japanese Fandom says Japanese, they generally do not branch out and search contact to foreign fans.

Fans use the term “Otaku” among each other, but as it is sort of offensive to be an outsider using the term, the academic discourse has come to prefer the term “Subculture”. This is different from other “slur” terms in the way that “Otaku” have used the term Otaku to refer each other ever since before negative connotations have come to be. The negative connotations came to be due to the media spreading the image of Otaku as murderous, perverted man-children removed from reality. So when an outsider uses the term “Otaku” it is generally assumed that they are using it in this negative context and are thus offensive. If I used the term, however, my friend wouldn’t be offended, because she has seen the inside of my dorm room and knows it is covered in posters and figurines and Manga stacked up on the ledges. So the “Otaku” that Miyazaki uses isn’t the same “Otaku” that the general fan uses. Miyazaki says “Otaku” but is actually referring to the “Moe-Kei-Elitists” which have been dominating the market for several years now (and really, he has any reason to hate, because they have been fetishizing his characters as well.) “Otaku” as in simply “Geek” IS a meaning that does exist, however, you need to be WITHIN the Geek-spectrum to safely use the term without calling forth the wrong connotation.

Japanese Fandom has the advantage of being greater in numbers, as, despite being a “hidden Subculture” in Japan, they are still enough to be able to communicate, meet and have fairly large events together which outscale our Anime Conventions by far. I was on Comiket - which, by the way, is financed through commercial space given through the Anime Industry and is free of charge to visit - and the numbers of people and stands there were insane. It was really just a self-published comicbook market, but there was EVERYONE there, fans of any Fandom you can imagine and shippers of all armadas and they were talking, buying, cosplaying and just having a good time, even without all the event stuff that we are used to, like panels or shows or so on. Though, of course, the groups kept to themselves. Men stuck to men, women to women, cosplayers to cosplayers (and cosplay-admirers). I got a few odd looks when I checked out a Touhou booth to get an Artbook for my boyfriend.

In the West, there is the image of Akihabara being the “Otaku Mekka”, while this is true, it’s actually more of a “Male Otaku Mekka”; female Fans are far more likely to be found shopping in Ikebukuro. While Akihabara is about 75% drilled towards the Moe-Kei Audience; thus, male Otaku, Ikebukuro is drilled 75% towards the Fujoshi Audience and thus female Otaku. Though, you will find both genders shopping in both districts, the distribution differs. I am neither a Moe-Kei Fan, nor a Fujoshi, so I kinda have to change around between where I go shopping to find everything I want.

After all, not all Otaku are into Fanservice; my friend is one of the female Otaku who quit Free! after the first three episodes because she, quote “Had no idea what the plot was even trying to tell her.” She’s kinda like me; Fanservice alone doesn’t satisfy her, she needs proper plot and characters too. So yeah, believe it or not, but despite the strong exclusiveness, Japanese Fans are just as diverse as anywhere else. There’s Fans who think Cosplayers are insane, Moe-Kei Fans who think Fujoshi are evil, Fujoshi who think Moe-Kei Fans are evil, people who are into “obscure” western movies and draw Doujinshi on that, while others just watch and tilt their heads - Yes, “Avengers” Doujinshi EXIST, I saw them on Comiket - etc. etc. etc.

It’s fascinating how much is similar and yet different, really. I came to Japan with the intent to study Fan-Culture and am really quite satisfied with my results so far. I learned so much and gained a so much broader understanding. It is always interesting to discuss how Western Fandom sees certain things with my friend and ask her how it is in Japanese Fandom. The times I get “Onaji!” (The same) for an reply really are just as often as I get “Zenzen chigau!” (Totally different). Of course, issues of translation and dubbing are totally foreign to the Japanese Audience except when it comes to Disney movies, because most Live Action Movies only receive subtitles there.

My friend once asked me if “English Seiyuu” - she used the term “Seiyuu” for voice actors in general, regardless of country - are just as famous and celebrated as their Japanese counterparts. I explained to her that, while we have famous voice actors like Yuri Lowenthal or Vic Mignogna, they are not as great celebrities as the Japanese Seiyuu by far; Mostly because the celebration of voice actors is a trend that has its roots in the Anime Fandom and the Western Fandom is just too small to make that big of a difference there. It is quite interesting whenever I engage in discussions like this with her. We learn a lot about the other’s culture from each other - not only Fanculture, but in general.

not even a shawol (i've been cursed to be an exo-L[oser] instead) but i need shinee protected AT ALL COSTS--wrapped in bubble wrap, padding, cement, and thrown into a safe--if sm tryna play this bullshit. they our only hope.

People keep saying this but …I mean outside of jokingly showing up and threatening lives (I’m saying this so the EFF-BEE-EYE doesn’t come and snatch me up)….what exactly can we do?

SNSD wasn’t some fly by the seat of your pants group. SNSD is THE biggest girl group in the world. THE. And SONES are no joke. I’ve met a few of them. Passionate is an understatement. And even they, with their pink oceans and unwavering love for SNSD, couldn’t prevent this.

There is literally nothing we can do as fans but be fans. I know that sounds…powerless and in a sense we are. We are powerless in situations like these. They could say SHINee was being pulled apart at the seams tomorrow and the only thing we could do is express (vehemently) our anger.

Anger is like not to stop a company, now INFAMOUSLY known for being a factor in groups breaking, from breaking up another. If it didn’t stop with DBSK, if it didn’t stop with S.E.S. and HOT, if it didn’t stop with Super Junior, SNSD, and EXO, there is nothing we can do if they zero in on SHINee.

Now there are two addendum to that very foreboding message.

1. I don’t think SHINee is in any danger. Group dynamics mean a lot in these situations. From what I’ve heard, all the members are absolutely fine with each other (baring any in group fights, arguments, disagreements because that’s bound to happen. Think about it. If YOU argue with your friends from time to time, they most certainly do). I’ve never heard SHINee express any wish to not be in SHINee. And now with moves to possibly give them solo shine, they are probably more than content in their situation.

2.I haven’t seen a reason for SM to even bother SHINee right now. As it stands, they are literally the only solid piece (and no, Red Velvet does not count. Let’s be real here. You can still smell the milk on their breath) SM has left. Unless the CEO is just crazy as hell (this is still up for debate) I don’t see him messing around (up for debate, no telling at this point)

Like I said, at the end of the day, our job is to be a support base. If they stay together FOREVER, we’ll be there. If they start picking members off, we are there to support ALL the pieces. That’s literally the only thing we can do. (Unless y'all want to start petitions and start marching. Might not solve nothing but to make us look absolutely insane but HEY! You only live once)

Hang Up - Requested (Ashton)

Hello, so Anon requested (could you make an imagine where your on the phone with your boyfriend ashton and you get annoyed for a small reason and hang up on him and he calls you back to settle things out) again Hayley (masht0ncak3) wrote this one, however i (Chelsea) did add a little in (I checked it was okay with Hayley first of course), so yeah we hope you like it.

‘Hey babe’ Ashton had rung you, since he’s on tour and you haven’t seen each other for 3 months.

'Hey, how’s tour?’  You sat down on your sofa getting comfy since you knew you’d be on the phone for a while.

'It’s amazing, the fans are getting crazier each night’ You smiled, it made you happy that he was enjoying himself, but in the back of your mind you couldn’t help but think maybe he wasn’t missing you, he was out having so much fun that maybe he just didn’t miss you at all.

'Yeah I’ve seen the pictures, some of the girls seem so dedicated and loyal’ You would never admit it to Ashton but sometimes you got jealous and self-conscious when looking at the pictures of him and the fans. You couldn’t help it, some of them were gorgeous and with him being so far away you worried that he’d cheat on you but you’d come to your senses and realise that Ashton would never do that to you.

'Yeah they are, it’s weird that people actually love our music’

'It’s amazing I don’t see how they couldn’t, they’d be crazy not to’ he laughed a little and you know your doing a good job of hiding how affected you are.

'Thanks babe, how’s home?’

You sighed ‘It’s alright, gets I get a little lonely every now and again but I’ll cope, I watched your interview the other day..’ you cant help but bring it up, the words coming out before you had time to think about them. Normally you loved watching their interviews because it made you realise just how lucky you were to have all four of them in your life but this interview was different though it didn’t put a smile on your face at all.

'Oh yeah, it was a great interview’

'Was it really?’ you answered harshly.

'What’s wrong babe?’ You could hear the concern in his voice as he spoke.

'One thing you miss back home Ashton?’ You repeated the question they had been asked in the interview.

'Babe’ He started but you cut him off

'Don’t babe me Ashton, do you not miss me? At all?! You could have told me that I didn’t mean anything to you rather than playing along. I get it your out living your dream having fun’ you feel the tears coming to your eyes hurt mixed with anger.

’(Y/N) it wasn’t like that, I just didn’t want the boys winding me up about it, you know what they’re like’

'Yeah I do Ashton but do you realise how it made me feel? Thinking that you didn’t give a shit about me! I’m stuck here and you can’t even say you miss me in an interview’ you cry, thinking back to how your heart felt heavy watching the video.

'I do care about you, I miss you so much babe I just wasn’t in the mood for them to start making comments about it on TV’ he tried to explain and any other time you would have agreed, you wouldn’t have made a big deal about it but this weeks been crappy and your taking it out on him.

'Whatever Ashton, I don’t want to hear your excuses’ you spit.

You heard him sigh through the phone and you could picture him running his hand through his hair something he does when he is annoyed or frustrated ‘(Y/N) please listen to me’ he tries again but your don’t want to hear it.

'I’ve gotta go’ You said and hung up not wanting to make the argument worse. You threw your phone onto the bed and decided to go for a run to clear your head. You got changed and headed outside.

You got back and grabbed your phone seeing 10 missed calls off Ashton and text messages asking you to pick up and saying sorry. You sighed and your phone began to ring again, you answered it.

’(Y/N)? Finally, Where have you been? I was so worried’ his voice is a little groggy and you hope he hasn’t been crying.

'I went for a run Ashton, not into a prison full of murderers’ you replied bluntly.

'There was no need for that’ he sounded hurt at your tone.

'I’m sorry’ you sigh, exhausted from your run and your anger towards him, tired of being alone, tired of missing him all the time.

'So am I. I shouldn’t have said I didn’t miss you just to keep the boys quiet. It wasn’t fair on you, I miss you so much babe, you know I do’ he explains.

'I miss you too Ashton, im just missing you so much and you not saying you missed me it really hurt. I thought you were going to break up with me or that you’d found some else…I just…..god I miss you so much’ you cry, letting him hear how much you miss him, the feelings you had been hlding in for months.

'I know, I should have thought about your feelings. I don’t ever want to loose you okay? I love you so much (Y/N) I don’t ever want anybody else. Baby  please don’t cry’ he begs, sniffing a little himself. You smiled, you’d never get tired of hearing Ashton say that he loved you. It was the best feeling in the world knowing that the person you love, loves you back.

'I love you to Ash’

‘Do you forgive me?’

'Of course, tell the boys I said hello. I need to go shopping now though’

'We’ll facetime when your back? And we can sort for you to come out a spend a couple of days with us really soon’

You nodded ‘Okay, I love you’

'I love you to, and I miss you lots’ he whispers.

also, here is a thing that I've said before but I think it bears repeating

This is not in any way to derail the proper horror and indignation everyone should feel about what happened to internleland or the microaggressions that it seems like virtually all POC in this fandom are dealing with. All the anger and sadness is justified.

In the midst of it, though, I see something to be encouraged by.

I’ve in various fandoms for over ten years now, so I’ve got a lot of history and precedent to draw from when I say the following.

The fact that WTNV is even having a storm over an issue of race is a sign of measurable progress compared to, let me draw a number from my hat and say eight years ago, because that is when I remember a discussion taking place in Angel fandom. (Like, Buffy-spinoff Angel, not Supernatural angels.)

There was a character named Gunn. He was…just fucking amazing. He was kind of the Tamika Flynn of vampire-infested inner city Los Angeles? The first vampires (apart from Angel himself) that we met in the show were explicit metaphors for rich white privileged dudes and their power. And Gunn was the leader of a group of mostly black young people who were living in warehouses and shoplifting to eat because they spent their days riding around in a van killing vampires, because their people were being preyed on and no one was fucking helping. Kind of like how things are exactly that way in real life, sans vampires.

I was 24. And for the first time, I heard a POC fan that I considered a friend pleading with Angel fandom to pay Gunn a little more attention. Instead of endlessly slashing just the white dudes. She broke down why Gunn was amazing. (She actually made THE MOST AMAZING fanvid that is sadly vanished from the internet now but I wish I could make you all watch it.) She pointed out that the character people liked slashing with Angel the most actually had a much deeper and more intense connection with Gunn.

Here’s what’s different between then and now:

1. Mimesere (the fan in question) got backed up by like three people. The rest of the people in fandom were either actively hostile and trotting out all the same shit we’re hearing now, like HDU shame us for liking the characters we like it has NOTHING to do with RACE HDU HDU, or they were people like, well, me. Who felt vaguely uncomfortable with the implications of the fact that I’d barely noticed Gunn up to that point, didn’t really know how to unpack that discomfort, so made a very pointless comment on the post that I liked Gunn but I just didn’t “get” him. And mimesere replied politely, even though I was essentially derailing, or at least making a very useless non-contribution to an important discussion.

(BTW: I had every reason to “get” Gunn. I get Gunn harder than anyone else on that show now, and I always would have, if it had ever occurred to me to even LOOK at him, which it hadn’t back when the show was on the air, because I hadn’t yet swallowed the red pill.)

2. The Gunn thing didn’t blow up into a massive firestorm that lit up the whole fandom, and you know why? Because there were maybe three people going to bat for fandom needing to examine the whole topic of white supremacy in media, and most people? They didn’t even get angry. They snored. They scrolled by. They dismissed the whole thing.

3. Gunn was the only significant character of color on the whole show. The only other one, if I’m remembering right, was one of the evil lawyers, and we barely saw him. So, one character of color, very few fans going to bat for him, fandom easily and comfortably ignores the whole thing.

That was 2006. Maybe some of you were kids, but I was 24, so I’ve got that perspective. Now, fast-forward to the present day.

1. Fans who are POC don’t have to seek their representation in just one character (who despite his awesomeness was more or less a sidekick.) They get a whole buffet. They get a MAIN CHARACTER–who is one half of the ship in a mono-shipping fandom. There more than one kind of non-white character–there’s black, Latino, Asian, Indian characters. And holy fucking God, they have WOMEN. WOMEN OF COLOR. Do you know how rare that was just eight years ago?

2. The showrunners are explicitly, vocally committed to diversity. Having come from several fandoms where the fans were more or less united in their justifiable disgust for gross showrunners, that is amazing.

3. Now, I’ve not told you anything you don’t already know in points 1 and 2. You already know what Night Vale is and what Fink and Cranor are like. That’s why you’re here. But this is the part that’s important. This is the part where I can look at the shitstorm in fandom and feel a kind of grim pride and satisfaction, even with all there is to be angry about and disgusted by:

The struggle is in the open now. Not just to POC, who never had the luxury of ignoring it, but to everyone. There is no possibility of sweeping it under the carpet where the white folks don’t have to look. The demands of POC and their allies are loud and unrepentant. A large part of the reason we’ve got a shitstorm going in the first place is that some people are having a temper tantrum over the fact that this time there is no possibility of ignoring the issues we’ve raised, or our demands that the whitewashing cease, or that attitudes contributing to the invisibility of POC be called out and examined.

This is probably slim comfort to the people who have suffered the most. Even to me it is, as I said, only a grim kind of satisfaction, but I think it’s a reason not to despair, or to think that what’s happening here is only sheer negativity. Most of that negativity is coming from people who don’t like their fun getting spoiled by some truth. Those people are whining for nothing. The Social Justice Warriors? They’re fighting for something. That is the opposite of a negative. It’s a striving towards a positive.

If you’re battle-weary, there’s no shame taking a break, taking care of yourself, shrugging the shit away. But if you’re all wide-eyed and baffled and frustrated that people won’t just let you have your fun–you’re missing something huge. Take another look.
