ya boi only gets involved in minimal discourse but literally here’s’ just my opinion. and that’s what it is, an opinion. if you want to have a discussion about it, please keep it to a DISCUSSION, and not a ‘you are now evil because i say so’ kind of follow up that many others seem to face.
asexuality and aromanticism are definitely 100% real and valid identities and should respected as such. many people struggle to accept this as part of their identity and figure out that is how they feel.
however, if you are cis asexual heteroromantic, cis heterosexual aromantic, or cis aroace, you are not lgbt because you do not experience same/similar gender attraction or are trans/non binary.
if you are ace or aro and DO experience same/similar gender attraction or are transgender/non binary, you are lgbt, but not because you are ace.
lgbt is a community based around identities that face systematic oppression. asexuality and aromanticism may face prejudice, but cannot come close to the history of lgbt oppression.
i highly question the opinions of others who believe that an indicator of how much you feel attraction to somebody in either a romantic or sexual way to someone is enough to make you lgbt, because again, to BE lgbt you must be attracted to the same/similar genders or be trans/non binary. it almost seems similar to the idea that to be lgbt your identity or sexuality must be ~different~ in some way. i’m not saying that this is what asexuality or aromanticism IS, i’m just stating that it doesn’t make sense to include something that doesn’t for the description of a specific community that isn’t based around that.
the asexual and aromantic community has been and could be able to be a separate community on it’s own without being involved with another community that does not fit their descriptor.
the ace community can work ALONGSIDE the lgbt community, but shouldn’t really be interchangeable due to reasons stated above.
there is a bit more to my outlook on his ‘issue’ but this is the baseline of my opinion.
cis het people should not be in a community based around same/similar gender attraction and being transgender/non binary simply because of the fact they do not experience attraction or they have limited attraction, ect.
be proud of who you are, yes, but please do not strive for ace/aro activism through lgbt activism as they should be separate issues.
again, i am open for discussion about this.
i hope all asexual and aromantic people have a great day, night, whatever time it is and i hope people can be civil with me about this. peace y'all ✌️
