i've been watching this recently and i kind of like it

anonymous asked:

I've seen 3 way of interpreting the color cover: Death (obviously with how the chapter ended), Loss of Virginity (her offer to Kaneki when he's ready and /or considering sex as a way to get him to stay, and flowers used in poems and literature as a symbol of a young woman's virginity, lastly (and least likely to me) pregnancy (flowers also meaning new life, the red either meaning loss virginity or childbirth going along with Touka offer of sex resulting in a One Eyed Prince/Princess)

do u think this chapter is a death flag for touka?

do you think the blood splatter on the colour page might be hinting that mutsuki might stab touka with one of her knives or something?

Idk if anyone asked this before, but there’s been death flags already marked on touka from the latest chapter and I just want to know you’re opinion and what you think. Considering how the chapter ended, I’m really worried and concerned for her.

Hi! So according to the colored page of latest chapter. I guess you’ve seen the 3 possibilities of what might happen to Touka. I would like to hear what you think about it. I highly doubt that she would die, Ishida sensei doesn’t kill characters lightly especially if it doesn’t serve the story (which I think is applied on Touka right now). Also her expression in the picture doesn’t imply bad thing happening, but more like she’s happy? I mean even if she were to die I don’t think it will be now..

Or pregnancy.

Dude the stain on toukas stomach kinda looks like a ukaku kagune. What if the color page is implying pregnancy?

rebeccastarlight: The blood splatter on the cover page it also looks like she’s going to die from childbirth

I wasn’t really a believer of the cover page implying that Touka became pregnant, but I recently saw a reddit post about it. [You can probably find it on the front page.] So anyways, it talked about the poem Ishida made a year ago, “Her womb smelled like it was burnt”. Bad sign already, but if you go through the translated lyrics its even worse. It also straightforwardly says the children meant to be born, had died. Do you think that relates to whats happening now? ItAlsoWouldLeadToParallelling

Wow, this is a really popular question, huh? Well, really it’s two and a half questions: 1) Will Touka die next chapter? 2) Will Touka get pregnant? 2.5) Will it end tragically? But since they’re all related to the cover picture, I’ll answer them all here before saying what I think is going to happen.

Q: Will Touka die next chapter?

A: No way Jose. If I’ve learnt anything from all that I’ve ever read, watched or played, it’s that female deuteragonists are IMMORTAL. Even more so than protagonists on some occasions. Don’t worry about the death flags, because this arc will be a parallel of the original Anteiku Raid arc, and you know who had a ton of death flags back then and who Touka has been paralleling since the start of :re? Old man Yoshimura! Who, despite it all, is still alive (if not kickin’). Touka won’t die - it’s far more likely that she’s going to get captured like her predecessor, probably as bait for Kaneki.

Q: Will Touka get pregnant, and will it end in tragedy?

A: Unlikely. That would require a 9-month timeskip to pay off, and things are way too hectic in the story right now to allow for something like that. The alternative would be that it’s foreshadowing for the epilogue, but it seems a bit strange to do that so early on and before Kaneki and Touka have even done the deed. It’s also not something that really needs to be foreshadowed because it would be part of the denouement rather than the actual plot. I don’t think it’s ukaku kagune since Ishida always draws blood with artistic flair in his colour art, and the drops over her breasts are unmistakably blood. As for the flowers, those are Kaneki’s signature flower, sweet olives, and they represent him.

Where the stillbirth/death in childbirth theories are concerned, I really doubt Ishida would kill off Touka so needlessly in the story’s epilogue of all places, and killing the baby would be equally pointless as we’ve seen Kuzen and Ukina (moar parallels) manage it. As one of these anons has already said, Ishida always has a point to his tragedy; he wouldn’t just throw either of those things in at the story’s conclusion for the sake of squeezing our tear ducts, especially since it would have nothing to do with the plotline of Tokyo Ghoul and, again, an epilogue is supposed to unwind tension rather than wrack it up.

What I think is going to happen

I think the blood on her stomach is indicative of a wound inflicted by Mutsuki. But it’s not just going to be any wound that’ll regenerate in a week - I think that out of jealousy, Mutsuki is going to damage Touka’s womb beyond repair. Since Ghouls have high-speed regenerative abilities, the only way to ensure that the womb won’t grow back would be to tear it out of her body, or maybe even eat it (we’ve already seen Mutsuki feed from bodies, and it could serve to parallel Ayato eating her kakuhou in the original series). Sexual mutilation would fit Mutsuki’s parallels with Torso and Nutcracker, and Kaneki and Touka talking about sex foreshadows that specific calamity more than a general death - especially since we’ve seen how good Touka is with kids in Ch 120. It also allows the aforementioned poem to fit in -  “The children who were meant to be born, died” - referring to Touka’s ability to reproduce being robbed from her.

So I think sad times are ahead for Touka, but she will live on. And isn’t Hinami kind of her and Kaneki’s kid already?

I want more fics where Stiles is unaffected by Derek’s hotness. Like, real people interact with attractive ppl every day without making a fool of themselves or drooling or doing stupid things. Instead of Stiles being dumb, unable to talk, or immediately falling in love with Derek, I want him to look at Derek, think “wow that guy’s hot,” and then immediately go “that dude is out of my league so moving on.” So, Stiles just treats Derek like he does everyone else.

Derek is really really into Stiles. So, he does everything he can to impress Stiles. He wears tight jeans, tank tops, works out with Scott and Danny in front of him, and takes off his shirt and walks around him front of him. Except…nothing works. Derek never has trouble getting people he wants. He knows he’s hot, and so he works that. Except it’s not working on Stiles.

And Derek is really really confused. Whenever he takes off his shirt or wears his best ass-hugging jeans, Stiles notices, sure. But so does Allison, who’s basically married to Scott, and Lydia, who Derek has overheard screwing Jackson too many times to count for the past couple years. Kira blushes, and Erica - well, Erica may be engaged to Boyd, but she never misses an opportunity to put her hands all over Derek’s sweaty abs and pecs. Danny always fucks him with his eyes, and Parrish stares a little too long, his cheeks a little too pink, and Derek thinks maybe he should hook up with Parrish again just to appease his bruised ego. Because Stiles looks, but then he stops looking because apparently it doesn’t impress him.

  • they tried to get noodle to eat brussels sprouts when she was little and they went on a health kick. she didn’t understand what they were called and thought they were called russel sprouts. to this day brussels sprouts are referred to as russel sprouts by everyone in the band and this is just an accepted phrase now. whenever they pass the produce aisle someone inevitably yells “hey russel!” and holds up a brussels sprout when he looks over (at least, 2d and noodle do. murdoc tends to just chuck a brussels sprout at russ’s head from all the way across the aisle and then pretend it wasn’t him.)
  • they all love the beatles so much. they tend to play beatles songs to warm up before practice; can’t buy me love was a favorite of noodle’s when she was little because 2d would dance with her and swing her around during the instrumental part while they sang. i want to hold your hand is also a popular one because during the bridge — “and when i touch you i feel happy inside” — 2d and noodle go all fake-sentimental and dramatically sigh and swoon all over the room. usually they sing to russ and get him to clasp their hands during this part or stroke murdoc’s face dramatically (he always pushes them away but he’s laughing.) one of the first songs murdoc learned was blackbird and he tends to play it to himself in his room when he’s alone, singing quietly. he taught it to noodle when she was really young and caught him singing it and even now, sometimes they’ll sit in the studio with their guitars singing blackbird together — it’s their thing.

What are your favorite podcasts? I've recently gotten into them with Dear Hank and John, but I always want more amazing podcasts to listen to.

i got you.

here are my favorites:

psychobabble: if you’re into hank & john, i’m guessing you like youtube? this one is hosted by tyler oakley and korey kuhl- they are HILARIOUS and have had me full-on cackling in public.  the episodes aren’t that long, like a half hour or so each, so it’s pretty easy to get into. episode 45, trash talking turtles, kills me every time. if you listen to the show too much you’ll start talking just like them.

ladies who lunch: another youtuber podcast. but you definitely don’t have to watch their videos to love this show. hosted by ingrid nilsen and kat valdez- two women talking openly and honestly about their lives and their experiences. their topics range from mental health, navigating family relationships, honesty within friendships, pollitics, spirituality, and a bunch more. listening to this makes you feel like you’re doing something good for your well-being and it’s such a comfort.

gilmore guys: this one is kind of specific, but if you like the show gilmore girls, you should definitely listen to it. it has made me indescribably happy to hear people earnestly discuss one of my favorite shows in such depth. they go through every episode of the show- all 7 seasons plus the netflix revival. episodes are long as fuck (like 3 hours usually) which is why i love having it on in the background while doing life things. it’s made me laugh a bunch and made me feel even more connected to the show & characters.

dear sugar: hosted by writers cheryl strayed and steve almond. beautiful and wise show where the hosts read letters written by listeners and give advice. no topic is off limits. it makes me feel connected to the world & has for sure helped me through some tough times. and it inspired me to read cheryl strayed’s book tiny beautiful things, a collection of advice columns she’s written. so SO good. my desert island book.

comedy bang bang: this has been my constant companion for like two years straight. it’s made me laugh so, so hard and given me an appreciation for comedy in general. it’s just a silly improv show in the form of long interviews. the host, scott aukerman, has had some pretty well-known comedians on there (like nick kroll, amy poehler, ben schwartz), and some that i only know from the podcast world (like lauren lapkus oh my god she is so funny). the comedy bang bang tv show is also really really funny.

my brother, my brother, and me: i can’t believe how long it took me to really check out this show. i just started listening like two weeks ago and it’s quickly become my absolute favorite. it’s an advice show hosted by three brothers- it’s crazy funny, and sometimes genuinely sweet? it’s great. it’s so great. please listen to it. some people recommend starting all the way from the beginning, but i’d start with the newer stuff (in the old days they were a little less woke. but one of the best things about their show now is how inclusive and open-minded they are!) also, you will 100% adopt their vocabulary. i’m so happy this good good podcast has come into my life. also you should listen to the adventure zone! also hosted by them. also great.

i never thought i’d stan a group other than shinee, but they’ve done it. Nu’est has made it into my shinee filled heart and i don’t mind in the slightest <3

Hi☺️ I'm studying German and I've just finished my grammar book. The question is: what do I do now? I know I still have loads of things to learn (vocabulary mostly), but how can I do that? Any advice?

oh boy do i!!
i was in the same boat about 2 years ago when i had covered all the content in teach yourself - german grammar you really need to know and although i felt i had a pretty good grasp of the basic grammar and could pronounce and spell words pretty accurately, i still struggled with comprehension, speaking and vocabulary :’(

- i was very lucky to get a lot of secondhand textbooks and dictionaries for free from my school because the year i started learning german happened to be the same year that the german teacher retired so they had a bunch of materials they didn’t need anymore and they were kind enough to let me have all of them. i used them to touch up on some of my shakier grammar points and read the comics and articles in them which was really helpful because they had little glossaries on each page with new vocab so i could see it used in context instead of just having to wrote memorise hundreds of words. while i did find the textbooks very valuable in my learning i don’t think it would have been worth buying them brand new however if ure able to buy secondhand textbooks for a few dollars each or borrow them from a library to use i would definitely reccomend it. i had genau and ganz genau, feuerwerk 1, 2 and 3 and katzensprung 1 and 2 but as far as i know they are only available in australia and new zealand. there is also another german textbook series available in australia called deutsch down under however i have only had the opportunity to flip through it at abbey’s a couple of times so i’m afraid i can’t say whether it’s any good or not

- i used mindsnacks to catch up on the really basic vocabulary that i still didn’t know and revise what i already knew. i definitely think it was worth paying for the full version because the app is really beautifully designed and it really does feel just like a game because it’s designed for young children, the only criticism i would give is that it doesn’t include the plural forms of nouns and the grammar it teachers isn’t really very useful but overall i was very pleased with the couple of dollars i spent on it especially seeing as i hadn’t had to spend much money on textbooks or dictionaries

- as i have discussed before duolingo doesn’t go into much detail on grammar or focus on pronunciation but one thing i find it to be really good for is filling in holes in vocabulary. the creators of duolingo have also recently released a new flashcards app called tinycards which i have tried and think is really excellent. it’s currently only available for ios but i expect that the team is in the process of developing an android version

- i don’t think bliu bliu is very well known in the language learning community?? back when it was in beta i used to use it a lot!! u have to pay to use it now since its come out of beta but apparently lingq supposedly has a similar free platform and lingua.ly is a free app for ios and google devices as well as being available as a chrome extension that performs basically the same task

- please use linguee it will change ur life. it’s a dictionary website thats also available as a free app for both ios and android!! it shows noun genders, plural forms, multiple examples and excellent quality audio recordings for nearly every word, and u can even download the dictionary to use offline so u can still learn when u have no internet connection

- around the beginning of last year i started watching german youtube regularly to further improve my pronunciation and listening skills and try to pick up on some more natural kind of colloquial language used by teenagers. i remember thinking everyone was speaking very very fast at first but after about 6 months i had grown accustomed to it and was able to understand enough to watch pretty much anything comfortably without worrying about the speed. i’ve explained the benefits of getting exposure to content even if u don’t actually understand it in this post and discussed the pros and cons of subtitles in a bit more detail in this post.

- while the grammar book did cover the majority of important basic grammar it definitely didn’t teach me everything. a couple of the websites i used that had really helpful detailed higher level grammar explanations were the uni of michigan’s german portal and lingolia. sometimes it’s really hard to find some aspects of german gramamr explained in english so if ure having trouble with googling for a particular explanation try searching for it in german

- other than that i get as much exposure to the language as possible. on an average day i would say i spend a minimum of 3 hours using german without even noticing it because of social media, reading books and listening to music - theres a list of german artists i like in this post that i update regularly :’)

i also have a growing list of german resources including grammar explanations, printables, vocab lists and song translations that i’ve made so don’t forget to check that out if u haven’t already uwu

happy learning!! x

  • just because he’s used to it doesn’t mean he wants to get sick.
  • for all he knows it could be the plague because you look like death.

So here’s a random realisation.

I consume a lot of content, like A LOT, (tv, movies, books, music, etc you name it) and more often than not, particularly with the visual form of content, I find myself consuming content passively. What I mean is that I just sit there and watch things without really processing them (most of the time after a really tiring day, it’s the kind of content I prefer, because I don’t really have to think too much about it). But here’s the great thing about this little Norwegian tv show, it doesn’t allow us to do that. Skam feels like what the future of media content should be. Active audience engagement. The fact that you have to seek out the website, wait for updates, integrate that with other social media updates. It makes you less likely to consume the show without thought. Here’s Julie saying, this show isn’t going to play by the rules, we’re not gonna spoon feed you, figure it out yourself.

And because your participation in it is self-initiated, you’re more likely to start actively assessing what you watch, and start thinking about implications and making predictions. And substantiating/backing up those assertions you make and this is where metas and analyses comes in. what I love so much about this show is the sheer amount of discussion that goes on in the fandom as the seasons progress and everyone’s active (im using this word a lot am i?) involvement in these discussions. Not only does it cultivate a mindset of critical analysis, but also you learn to be more engaged with the characters and their development which in turn teaches us empathy.

Ok, but like, don’t a lot of shows have fandoms that discuss things and have fans who relate to characters? Well, yes, I’m not saying they don’t. But another thing that sets skam apart from most shows is the audience engagement is much more of a two way street than most tv shows (which incidentally makes the audience interest more sustained in the show). a lot of the times, most tv/movies get produced first and then the audience gets the finished product and the feedback from the audience is delayed by 4 to 5 episodes. If its something the audience isn’t receptive of, shows probably only start pivoting in the next season.  And some show creators don’t really care about the audience feedback beyond the numbers and ratings. and on some shows, all they care about are the review critics. and tv networks and movie producers generally don’t care about fans so long as the content makes money. There have been fandoms where the creators have actively worked against what the general fandom wants, which creates a negative dichotomy where the fandom still engages in the media that doesn’t want to cater to them.

But so far, skam is, fortunately, different in that fan discussions are welcomed and even addressed (re: all those fourth wall breaking). And the response from the creators is often almost instantaneous, fluid and flexible. It creates a lively environment that fosters creativity for both fan and content creator (albeit challenging for the show runners). And because the content creators listen, viewers are more likely to become much more discerning, critical thinking people who form opinions on their own and want to actively (there’s that word again) throw these ideas out there to the creators and have some sort of autonomy over the content that they’re consuming rather than just sitting staring at the screen being fed ideas passively. Basically, what im saying is, watching skam helps me become smarter lmao.

i-rant-for-pleasure  asked:

Do you mind if I ask what's this anime you're talking about? Because so far from you you've blogged about I'm digging the lack of fanservice and moe face!

Hmm…. it depends on what you perceive as “the moe face” because that term is so nebulous and up to personal interpretation, unfortunately. I tend to define it as “characters looking much younger than their actual age, with typical anime style of drawing” not characters that are just as young as they’re drawn thus the designs are simply “cute” not “moe”. :v

In this case, I’m pretty sure you could enjoy:

It’s a very lighthearted show about a school for witches, that’s sure to give u a Harry Potter childhood nostalgia ;D. It actually feels exactly like a cross between this and Ghibli movies = cute, super cool action and absolutely no fanservice. Also female protagonists because that’s …. an all-girls school. The animation is so beautiful u want to eat it and the show is very funny but can be pretty emotional at times as well!

Addition: If you love Mabel Pines - you’ll love Akko - the main character, as well!!

There’s also Mob Psycho 100 which… hmm I personally wouldn’t say qualifies as “cute” at all, unless some specific scene calls for it (mostly as a joke lmao).

Extremely good animation - seconded! It’s not only insanely fluid but also uses SUCH UNIQUE TECHNIQUES, Yes you’re gonna see full sequences made via paint on glass or charcoal, pencil etc. This is… kinda an action show but it’s ABOUT action, it’s central theme is kindness. However unlike in other shows with the same theme it doesn’t feel forced. It’s so natural and all characters are so real and you’ll end up loving them all! This show’s not only super hilarious but it brought me to tears more than once… I’ve never seen anything so accurately showcasing character’s emotions through just the visuals.

So yea it basically has it all: almost no romance, amazing plot, animation and characters, humor!

Additional bonus if you’re a Gravity Falls fan: it has a conman character with a hidden heart of gold that actually cares about the main character that’s a middle school kid = so if u love Stan, you will love him! :D

Well, I’ve already talked about why this show is great [HERE]!

Then there’s a show that’s pretty heavy and entirely psychological, meant for the mature audience. - and yes there’s no fanservice here either. If u dig diving into twisted mysteries that make you question what’s real and what’s a figment of the character’s tortured psyche’s - Paranoia Agent is the show for you.

^^^ extremely creepy in context/paired up with the soundtrack = the intro is characters laughing in dangerous/deadly situations… the song is sickeningly joyous… you see nuclear bomb exploding, flood, war… and they laugh

It deals with so many kinds of mental illness or very serious horrible situations life puts us in, that make us feel trapped, absolutely lost. It can get VERY visually abstract and this gets more prominent as the show goes on so I won’t post any screencaps of this to not to spoil too much.

The best thing is that despite dealing with very dark matters… the show does allow the viewer to draw some positive lessons from it. So you won’t just feel crushed after all that heavy stuff going on, more like… enlightened, emotional and utterly fascinated. I think it’s most helpful for someone with suicidal thoughts.

I’m yet to see enough anime to make a comprehensive list of those “safe to watch”. I realize there are way more out there but I’ve decided to only talk about those I’ve seen personally.

But in general other movies made by Satoshi Kon (who made Paranoia Agent) are just like that show so go watch them too! Just as all of the Studio Ghibli movies are very fun, beautifully made, devoid of “moe face” and esp fanservice since this company is kinda like the Japanese Disney = keeps stuff kid friendly (but still some of the movies really do deal with heavy real-life matters like war or destruction of the environment! so it still stays very intellectually satisfying).

Other shows to consider

Terror in Resonance: The designs are one foot in the moe and one in a more grounded style so it’s for you to decide if this sits right with you. There’s not really any fanservice except one scene where a female characters simply takes a bath, it’s not sexualized… but u can see the boobs so… yeaa be vary of that. But overall it’s a fast-paced mystery-driven show about serious matters such as terrorism, childhood trauma, how WWII affected the Japanese society and so on… Plus it has really really unique and great soundtrack! It ranges from fast-paced jazz to stuff resembling Sigur Ros… (and I love this character on the right so much > . <)

This is, a very chill show about a group of friends hanging out and solving small mysteries in their school and outside of it. The mysteries aren’t that important but still they got this kind-of Sherlockian vibe? (later on those books are referenced just as Christie’s). The mysteries are fun but most of all it’s about watching these high schoolers grow as people. I mean that’s not the most ambitious premise but trust me, this is incredibly pleasant to watch, it always made me feel so relaxed, at ease. It’d say it’s quite beautiful! And yeah the design is meant to be cute and typical “anime style” but, uh, characters look their age (I suppose) so in my opinion that’s not moe.

One could argue they got just one “fanservice episode” but I personally disagree - I mean if just simply showing characters going to a swimming pool and one wearing bikini… and the guy who has a crush on her getting subtly flustered at her getting close is fanservice??? then probably all of the healthy romance is. Idk to me it wasn’t over the top but very natual and tasteful. Plus this show isn’t romance focused - rather is centred strongly around friendship and opening to others.

Madoka Magica???

I’ve started this show recently, I’m 6 episodes in and so far there’s been no fanservice and I wouldn’t say the style is the typical “moe”(… but it kinda is… it’s complicated: character design is moe but how they are handled isn’t), esp if u take a look at how original the environment where the battles take place looks!

Beware though - it can get pretty bloody and the show spirals into darkness further and further as it proceeds… straying continuously from the usual cutesy “magical girl anime” tone (=it’s not afraid to brutally kill off its characters)

An Open Letter to the Overwatch Community

– written by somebody who probably has no business writing it. ;)

So my blog, overwatchuserboxes, was for some reason deactivated from Tumblr briefly last night/early this morning. I luckily heard back from Tumblr support staff after a while and, as you guys can probably tell, the blog is back up and running! :)

I can’t figure out if this was just a random mistake or if something else happened, but I’ve been over the Tumblr rules and guidelines and I’m confident I didn’t violate any of their terms. But in light of the recent influx of hatred and viciousness in my inbox related to some of the userboxes I have made on request, I instantly wondered if there was some sort of correlation. I don’t think there was, but the fact that I had the thought is ridiculous in itself!! So. Just a (slightly wordy, sorry) post from me re: ship hate and my ~feelings~ below, if you’d like to keep reading. If not, have a lovely day! ❤

Raphael misses his heartbeat.

If he’s going to have a nightmare, he prefers to have the rapid beating of his heart when he wakes up to remind him that he’s alright. He’s okay.

But now he wakes up in the Hotel Dumort, forcing himself to breathe in and out, with no heartbeat to reassure him. In fact, the lack of movement in his chest makes the whole situation worse. It’s a painful reminder of the night before, when dirt and panic and fear were all beating down on him as he clawed his way up.

Coincidentally, that’s what the nightmare had been about.

He rolls over in bed and spots a thermos and a little slip of paper propped against it. He knows there’s blood in the thermos, despite Simon’s attempts to hide it with the solid metal of the cup. He reaches for the paper, which has Simon’s room number scribbled on it in a hasty, messy scrawl.

Raphael does not want to ask for help. Raphael Santiago never asks for help. He takes care of his brothers without help, he balances school and work without help, and he manages himself without help.

The thought of his family and his responsibilities make another flare of panic rise in his chest. How is he going to take care of his brothers? His mama can’t do it alone, she needs someone to help run things. But the sun will apparently burn him to a crisp and the crosses that deck out the Santiago house will apparently scar him. Which is a whole other problem. He needs to go to church on Sundays, he needs to pray at altar, he needs to wear his cross around his neck like he did every day before yesterday.

So he’s going to ask for help. Because being a vampire is not something he can figure out through his own craftiness and the internet.

He gets up and shuffles down the hall to room 210, where Simon is clearly still awake despite it being mid-afternoon. Raphael can hear a television running and loud guitar music being played and he briefly pauses outside the door, unsure.

He doesn’t know Simon. All he knows is that after Louis Karnstein bit him and Magnus and his newfound Shadowhunter companions rushed him to the cemetery, Simon had shown up with instructions on how to carry out the process. Simon had also held Raphael’s head while he drank blood for the first time, and then held his head again when he inevitably threw it up.

Simon had been nothing but kind to Raphael through the first couple of hours. He’d been soothing and understanding and he’d promised that he would help Raphael every step of the way.

But Simon’s clan has something like 200 vampires in it. He’s probably too busy to even learn Raphael’s last name.

“Raphael Santiago as I live and breathe!” Raphael looks up with a start to see Simon draped in the doorway, a smile on his face. “Well not live and breathe, but, you know. Everything okay?”

“Uh,” Raphael is suddenly overwhelmed with emotions that hadn’t been there only seconds ago. He’s not going to cry in front of Simon, though. So he just shakes his head. “Can I ask you some things?”

Simon’s smile is gone and he looks much more serious. With a nod he heads back into his room, leaving the door open for Raphael to follow at his own pace. The room almost looks like they’re in a different building. The ancient-looking wallpaper is covered up with band posters, some signed by bands who he probably met in person decades ago. He has blankets thrown around, clothes on the floor, water bottles of half-drank blood scattered around various surfaces.

He clears a space on his messy couch for Raphael, who sits stiffly beside him.

“What’s up?” Simon asks.

“I do not know how to do this.” Raphael sighs, clenching his jaw to keep his face composed. “I need to know how I can see my family. And go to church. And wear my cross.”

Simon blinks. “Very ambitious. When I was turned, I stayed in bed for three days.”

“I’m not like that.” Raphael says shortly. He wants answers, not personal anecdotes and caring advice.

“Listen, I’m going to be honest. For a while, life is going to be terrible. You won’t be able to see your family, you won’t be able to go to church, and you’ll probably hate…everything. Everyone does, at first.”

“I don’t want to feel sorry for myself, I want to figure out a way around it.” Raphael insists, immensely frustrated. He doesn’t care how everyone else reacts to it. He is not everyone else, and getting back to normal as soon as possible is all he wants.

Simon puts a hand on Raphael’s shoulder. “There are ways around it, but they take time. Just to say God took me months, and it’s a painful process. I only recently learned how to walk on consecrated ground.”

Raphael shrugs Simon’s hand off. “Well maybe I’m better than you at it.”

Simon’s lips press together and he’s clearly attempting to swallow a laugh. “Yeah, maybe. Go ahead and say it, if you think it’s so easy.”

Raphael doesn’t hesitate. He forces the word out of his mouth, but the only noise that comes out is a choked cough. He’s alarmed to taste a pooling of blood in his mouth and suddenly Simon’s shoving a cup under his chin. Without thinking, Raphael spits and watches in horror as his blood fills the bottom of the cup.

“Oh my–” He’s about to finish the sentence with the very word that just scorched his throat, but he stops himself. When he looks back up, there’s nothing taunting in Simon’s eyes. He looks sad.

“See?” He says softly. “It’s not what you think.”

Raphael never cries in front of people, but he’s never been a vampire before so he’s allowing himself to make an exception. His life is centered around family and faith. Now both of those are gone for who knows how long, and Magnus is off with a handsome black-haired demon killer and Simon is looking at him with so much pity in his eyes that it’s physically painful.

“I know it’s horrible.” Simon says. “But things get better. I can enter my synagogue again, and there are ways to see your family. How do you think your family will react to this?”

“My mama will accept it.” Raphael immediately says, because he knows it’s true. Guadalupe Santiago would never turn away one of her sons, alive or dead. “But I don’t know if I can–control myself–”

“I know.” Simon cuts off his rising panic. “I can bring them food and money and whatever they need until you feel safe around them. Just tell me where to leave it and I’ll get it done. And we can practice with your faith, together. Whenever you’re ready.”

Raphael wipes at his eyes and looks up. “Aren’t you too busy?”

Simon shakes his head, a determined glint in his brown eyes. “You’re family now. I’m going to do everything I can.”

“Because you seem like a good person.” Simon answers with a broad grin, which makes the pain in Raphael’s heart ease a bit. “And I think you’d do the same for me.”

What makes you convinced that Silver didn't shoot Flint? I've seen arguments for both theories, and everyone seems to think that Flint is dead though eventhogh we never saw a body (no body = no death). Do you listen to fathoms deep? Daphne and Liz are pretty insightful and they seemed to be pretty sure Flint is dead.

Same anon here. Also, Toby Stephens apparently said on twitter that it is an open ending…. I guess I simply don’t know what to think.

Oh, Jesus. I had kinda hoped I wouldn’t get this kind of question. I’ve listened to Fathoms Deep, and I’ve also seen Stephens’ tweet, and I’ve read tons of interviews of the writers stating that the ending was real, and tons of reviews pointing out that the ending was ambiguous, and I’ve seen losts of post listing reasons for why they believed Flint was dead …

It’s a bit of a mess at this point, which seems to have been the intended outcome.

Well, @blacksailsstarz, congratulations.

What a bit of washed-out colors, an overdose of sunshine, and a cleverly cut scene in the woods can do to a fandom, it’s truly impressive. You pulled quite a number on us.

Anyway, I guess I have to do this, if only for myself, so here we go.

Why I believe that Silver’s story about Flint’s ending is true.

안녕하세요! I was wondering if you could help me: I'm learning about predicates and endings and I've been struggling with the pre-final endings, like the honorific suffix -(으)시, past tense marker 었/았 and the non-sentence-final endings. Is there a way for you to shine some light on me? (My grammar is unhelpful) Thank you so much for all your hard work! This blog has been an inspiration for me to continue studying Korean. 정말감사합니다!!!!

By adding  -시 or -(으)시 to a verb stem, you’re making it an “honorific verb”. This is used when you’re speaking about or to someone who is above you in the social hierarchy. (eg your boss, your friend’s mum etc).

Please remember that after attaching ~(으)시 to a word, you need to conjugate it to make a sentence.

“살다” means “to live”.

 살다 + ~(으)시  = 사시

Then after conjugating present tense (+ ~아/어요) becomes 사셔요

Or conjugating past tense (+ ~았/었다) becomes 사셨다

Or conjugating to formal declarative (+ ~ㅂ/습니다) becomes 사십니다.

Some examples include:

“어머니는 무슨 일 하셔?”   -   What kind of work does your mum do?

“언제 가세요?”  -   When do you leave? (technically, it would be “가셔요” but language has evolved so ~셔요 sometimes becomes ~세요 now)

How To Study Korean explains the rules and usage well, so please check out this page if you’re still confused!! :-)

This site also gives examples of the different endings and formulas you can use!

We recently posted a lesson on conjugation [HERE] where we included all the rules.

었/았 is added to the verb stem to change the sentence to past tense. Basically, once added to the verb stem, you then “conjugate it again” by adding 아(요)/어(요) to the end. You do this by taking the last vowel and adding the appropriate ending.

만들다 = 만들+었+어(요)   =   만들었어요 (the last vowel is ㅡ )

가다 =  가+았+아(요  = 갔어요   (the last vowel is ㅏ)

먹다 = 먹+었+어(요) = 먹었어요   (the last vowel is ㅓ)

일어나다 = 일어나+았+어(요) = 일어났어요   (the last vowel is ㅏ)

Non-sentence-final endings end a verb or adjective but not the sentence. The allow you so say one thing (the first “clause” )and connect it to another thing (the second clause) in the same sentence.

These “endings” include (but are not limited to)

~고 - and then (점심 먹고 갔어요 I ate lunch and then left)
~어/아서 - so, therefore
~으면서 - while
~지만 - although, but

Some examples include:

점심 먹고 갔어요 I ate lunch and then left. (”고” ended the verb “먹다” but did not end the sentence)

영화를 보면서 과자 먹었어요 While watching a movie I ate a snack (”면서” ends the verb, and allows you to continue to the second part of the sentence)

Thank you for your questions. We hope this helped!!

Hey. I just found your blog and you seem to be annoyed with the part of the fandom that's upset at Goku's treatment in Super. Going by what I've read, since I haven't watched more than one episode of Super, Goku has gone from someone who cares about his friends and family enough to die for them to someone who will sacrifice entire universes for a good fight. Part 1

“PT2: Yes, I know Goku likes a good fight. I’ve known that since I started watching Dragon Ball Z at age 9. But he also cares about the innocent, and sacrificing whole entire universes worth of innocent people just so he can battle it out with the best fighters from them is just … really messed up and I’d never have believed it of him.
PT3: This is the guy who became a Super Saiyan because Freeza killed his best friend. This is the guy who convinced Vegeta to join him in what he knew was a permanent fusion through one of the most passionate and beautiful speeches I ever heard from him. The guy who died to save Earth from Cell and stayed dead to protect everyone he loved.
PT4: I’m not going to be mean-spirited or anything, but if Super doesn’t acknowledge these parts of who Goku is, they have made me very very sad. I only watched the dub but I was a hardcore DBZ fan from age 10 to age 14 and I know Goku’s not the brightest but he DOES care about people, even those he does not know personally.”

Well first of all, thank you for checking out this blog! As for my stance on Goku, I’m not sure what all you’ve been told, but I’ll do my best to address most of what I’ve been dealing with. (Please note: this is in no way a “callout” post, I’m genuinely trying to explain my position.)

To start, Goku did not, at all, “sacrifice” universes for a good fight. In fact, their demise has little to do with him at all. The fandom seems to have convinced themselves that Goku was told not to ask for this tournament or everyone would die, but that’s simply not the case. Beerus told him he didn’t like him being chummy with Zen-oh, the Omni-King, as all it takes is a bad day for him and he’ll erase their entire universe if Goku annoys him. (Remember, he DID wipe out another 12 universes that had existed before in a fit of anger.)

In fact, the demise of the other universes as a penalty for loss was a shock even to Beerus. However, only a few episodes later definitively showed that Goku had not, in fact, been responsible for this fate. In fact, Zen-oh had been saying there were too many universes to keep track of and had the Grand Priest begin assigning said universes a number value in accordance with their quality. Any universe ranked below a 7 overall was to be wiped out. However, Goku reminding him of the Tournament he’d promised inspired him to instead make a competition of it; he would have all universes below a 7 fight it out for the right to remain in existence, with a wish on the Super Dragon Balls as an added boon.

Goku actually, completely inadvertently, saved his own universe and gave all those due for extinction at least a fighting chance to survive.

As for Goku’s characterization… a few things to keep in mind. Toriyama has stated in the past, back when the anime had just finished running, that he hadn’t appreciated how at times they tried to spin him as more heroic than he actually is, going for a more traditional hero role that what was intended; this error was only magnified in the dub version of things for the same reason.

Toriyama had said that Goku’s allure was that he wasn’t a hero, at least not intentionally. His singular drive was to fight strong opponents, period. But, in seeking to accomplish his goal and fulfill his desires, often found himself doing good things as a result of it. This is a description of the character Toriyama has remained consistent on in his manga, in a 1997 interview right after the anime concluded:

Toriyama: Even with characters that appear to be doing the right thing at first glance….
Wired: There’s actually “poison” inside?
Toriyama: Right. There’s how, basically, Son Goku from Dragon Ball doesn’t fight for the sake of others, but because he wants to fight against strong guys. So once Dragon Ball got animated, at any rate, I’ve always been dissatisfied with the “righteous hero”-type portrayal they gave him. I guess I couldn’t quite get them to grasp the elements of “poison” that slip in and out of sight among the shadows.

In a 2014 interview with Masako Nozawa:

“I wanted him to have the sense of being that rare guy who seeks only “to become stronger than before”, so much so that it feels like “there’s no one as pure as this person”. And while he does end up saving everyone as a result of that, he himself at least has a very pure sincerity about “wanting to become stronger”. What I wanted to depict the most was the sense that he might not be a ‘good guy’ at all, although he does do good things as a result.“

AND, most importantly, in one of the recent episodes of Super.

Goku is still very much Goku. The problem is the fandom, many of whom aren’t even watching sadly, majorly jumped the gun and made assumptions of what happened, while viewing Goku through this idealized lens of who he is. But he’s still Son Goku. He’s still that big friendly doof we all love. And he still cares about others and their plights, even if he doesn’t seek them out as some sort of ‘arbiter of justice’. Nor did he ever once intentionally doom entire universes to die for the sake of a good fight. That kind of slander and just plain trashing of the character is just something I refuse to abide by or entertain.

Anyways, I hope I helped clear this up for you, and I hope you enjoy my content. :)

Since I got a huge influx of followers thanks to a certain -someone-, I figured I’d say hi, hello and welcome to my blog!!!

I know someone asked for a FAQ page and I’ll likely put one up later this weekend. For now, I’ll just explain a little bit about my blog, myself and where Dark came from.

For starters, I have do have an Art Blog if people are only interested in my work. It’s linked in my header or you can click here. This is my main blog where I post my art as well as a mix of other things. My main blog typically features artwork I like, fanart, cute things or stuff that makes me laugh. I’m a SFW blog with a few NSFW illustrations that may pop up rarely (I try my best to tag them).

A bit about myself: I’m a recent graduate of California State University, Sacramento where I obtained my BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Digital Media. While I love illustrating, it’s actually something I didn’t study in school. I learned fine art elements and how to use programs like Maya and After Effects in my last few semesters. I’ve picked up the majority of my illustration knowledge from watching other artists online and reading tutorials. I typically create all of my work in Photoshop using a drawing tablet.

Annnnd Dark….where to start with this? You’re probably wondering, “Why did you make Dark? What -is- Dark? How did he come to be??? WHY are you obsessed with this youtuber you freakin’ weirdo?!?”. All great and valid questions. Mark said it himself in the livestream that Dark was something the fandom created. I remember people joking in the youtube comments on Mark’s creepy pasta videos from way back when. I would see people say, “Oh that’s not Mark in the video, it’s ‘Dark’”. Mark also made a tumblr post around that time jokingly saying Dark wasn’t a character of his, why did you make him real? That sparked me to create the older work that he showed in the livestream. I wanted to create what or who I thought Dark was. After that piece, I didn’t toy with the Darkiplier idea again until about 6 months later. I ran this blog like an ask blog and did some silly things with darko the dork. I gave Dark a persona while using Mark’s face as a model for him.

Originally, my Dark was a creation of Mark’s fears; a nightmarish type monster that was tied to Mark and a reflection of what you can become if you lose your path. I wanted to create a comic with commentary on how fear can control your life and the effects it can have if you let fear rule you. That never came to fruition as school and life kind of got out of hand. I also felt stagnant with the character being so tied to Mark himself. It was humbling to see how much my Dark influenced my friends versions of him and other people in the fandom as well, but I was getting frustrated with the idea. I set Dark down for about year and came back to him just before Mark did that dating skit this February (although that also has had a big influence on me). Currently, Dark is now a separate entity and falls into the Cryptid category. I’m being tight lipped about his story as I’m working out the prologue with @prismkitten-mivy. There will be multiple original characters in this story that are given the task of capturing the escapee, Dark (Who goes by another name but you’ll see that later). I started Dark’s story long ago and now with a new re-write, I plan to finish it. He’s going to be a side project that will keep me and hopefully my followers entertained as I work on other ideas as well.

So there you have it. I still watch Mark’s vid’s from time to time because the nerd makes me laugh. I work 5 days a week and spend most of my free time working on new projects to share with you all here. I’m just a nerd that can draw and likes interacting with folks on here when I can. :)

sterek fic rec

Play It Again (ABSOLUTE FAVE. stiles’ characterization is PERFECT)
In which Stiles goes along with one of Derek’s plans and ends up in an alternate universe as a result. He should’ve known better. He did know better, actually, and that means he has no one to blame but himself.

Laura wants to lure the kid in with food and kindness and make a pet of him, like a feral cat. Derek wants to have him arrested for stalking. They’re at an impasse. (And the rest of the family is staying emphatically out of it in a way that suggests bets have been placed.)

Say Something (my favorite The Sheriff Finds Out scene ever)
That first time Stiles decided it was probably wise to let sleeping werewolves lie.

The Socioeconomic Repercussions of Mutually Assured Destruction
The trouble with having the kind of brain that likes to write essays on male circumcision for an Economics class, is that it also likes to turn PowerPoint presentations for Biology into odes on the perfection of notorious bad boy Derek Hale’s backside.

Fly a Little Faster
Everyone knows when you go back in time, you shouldn’t step on an ant, just in case you accidentally kill your own grandparent or something. But what happens when you go back in time and, uh, accidentally interrupt the one event that apparently made the Grumpiest Alpha in Town into a ball of mindless manpain?

Well, if Marty McFly can do it, so can Stiles Stilinski. All he has to do is get Derek and Paige to fall in love before he gets pulled back to his own time. And before he makes anything worse. That’s easy as pie, right? Right?

Hell Is Other People series
Stiles discovers the hazards of growing up a real boy when, at heart, he’s not a real boy at all.

Safety in Silence
It’s perfectly understandable. Even Derek wouldn’t want to be Derek’s soulmate.

Crash Landers
In which Stiles learns to Stalk That Stalk. (Or, how to accidentally woo your unfriendly neighborhood alpha in roughly five hundred handwritten steps.)

this boy, half-destroyed (don’t let the second person POV throw you off, it’s BEAUTIFUL)
Bodies – those are something you understand, mostly; you know immediately exactly how much smaller he is than the last time you saw him. Too skinny, too pale; his cheeks cave in a little too much, from his face. He’s a shadow of something: he looks like the dead walking. His hands are stuffed down in the pockets of his hoodie and he looks tentative but not afraid.

Derek Hale used to have a family. Now, he’s got a teenage human more trouble than he’s worth. Post-S2.

the blood blooms clean in you, ruby (same author, same concept, seriously, READ THEM BOTH)
You don’t remember, anymore, where exactly you were when you found out that she was dead. You remember almost everything else about her dying, though.

Stiles Stilinski has always been the person who will do what other people don’t want to. It’s hard, though, when your friends keep trying to protect you. Post-S2.

will to follow through (like, if i wrote teen wolf, this fic would’ve been season four. just absolutely 100% perfect, and i love danny mahealani)
“It depends entirely on how you look at it, I guess,” Stiles shrugs. “On the one hand, instant healing and the apparently inherited ability to pull off leather at all times. On the other, serious attitude problems and a suspicious disappearance of eyebrows.”

“Even Derek’s?” Danny snorts, “that’s a lot of eyebrow to lose.”

“I know,” Stiles agrees. “You should see, it’s so weird. Every time I want to ask him where they go, except he’d totally eat my face off.”

“There are worse ways to die.”

cool story, bro
FUUUUUUCK, is it a sweet valley high situation where Stiles is very aware that his twin is way more attractive and confident than he is, EVEN THOUGH THEY’RE IDENTICAL, and he always ends up with the hotter significant others and more friends and Stiles guesses that’s why he’s attracted to the pack at first, because it’s something that’s just his, not his twin’s too. But of course, Stiles’s twin gets bit and now he’s part of Derek’s pack, and Derek doesn’t snap at him like he snaps at Stiles, never slams him into things, fucking FIGURES, STILES’S TWIN GETS EVERYTHIIIIIIIING.

Hold The Door (Supernatural crossover but like… trust me)
When Derek is killed by a rival alpha, the pack will stop at nothing to get him back. Even if that means blackmailing the most dangerous hunter duo this side of hell. Whatever. That whole devil thing was probably totally exaggerated, anyway.

Apathy, Apathy, You’ll Be The Death of Me
Everyone’s apathetic. Except Derek. Derek cares so much.

or Boyd is a pragmatic posthumous reappropriater, Erica spends her free time impersonating Meursault and playing Fruit Ninja, Isaac would like everyone to settle down already, Stiles is bi, Scott’s actually holding it together pretty well for a week-old Alpha with a two pack problem, Jackson’s a lizard, Lydia accessorizes, Allison’s playing on a rival (semi-murderous) team and Derek just keeps showing up.

→ que tu m’aimais encore (read the fake boyfriend convention au by the same author after this one to cheer you up)
Wolves mate for life, don’t they?

But I’m Not a Soldier
The first time Derek shoves Stiles against a wall, she pepper sprays him in his face.

But The World Won’t Stop Turning (y’all know i can’t resist a time traveller’s wife au)
Derek glances at Stiles, who is watching him with a curious expression.

“Oh shit,” Stiles exclaims as comprehension dawns on him. “Everything makes sense now. Derek, I know what the witch did, she cursed you with – “

But before Stiles is able to finish his sentence, everything fades away and Derek is surrounded by darkness.

So I've recently adopted a toddler, and I've been considering trying to raise her with Hellenic practices. Do you have any information about raising children Hellenic? Or just any pointers? I intend to teach her about the Theoi but I'm curious if there's anything else or anything specific I can do for her.

Firstly, congratulations!

Now, I don’t actually have any pointers or information for raising children in Hellenic polytheism, as I don’t have any children of my own yet. I imagine that it wouldn’t really be too different from raising a child in any faith. You could let her watch your rituals, bring her in to participate in ways that are doable for her, and teach her the core concepts of the faith so that she can understand the moral guidelines and the rules of the faith as she grows up.

An easy way to introduce your child to worship in Hellenic polytheism may be to ask if she’d like to pray with you, and introduce her to cleansing with kherips (which you’ve prepared), and letting her set offerings on your altar. As she gets older you can teach her to make khernips, let her lead a daily prayer sometimes, ect… You may eventually want to start thinking about questions you can ask her, to get her to think about things like the pillars of Hellenism or the delphic maxims and what they mean to her/how they apply to her. Those kinds of questions that really get you thinking about how the faith is relevant to you were actually my favorite part about bible study when I was a kid.

Hi :) I wanted to ask your opinion on the relation between Hollywood's use of Nazi aesthetics (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Hydra etc.) without portraying their ideologies in an appropiate way to todays attitude of cutefying Nazis and the 'alt-right'/white supremacists. I've just been thinking about that a lot lately and you always have very spot on and thought out commentary. Thank You!

I’m not sure if this is going to answer your question or not, but my brain kind of does what it does, so here we go:

The examples you’ve given here for “Nazi aesthetics” are all quite different. Indiana Jones uses actual, literal Nazis as bad guys: this is unambiguous, as the films are ostensibly set in our world despite the magical/occult underpinnings of the various historical McGuffins. Hydra is simultaneously a Nazi analogue while being Nazi-adjacent: this is also unambiguous, especially given that the comics/films are set in WWII, albeit in Marvel’s alternate version of history. Of the three, it’s Star Wars which relies on Nazi aesthetics - uniforms, empire, soldiers in lockstep, genocidal rhetoric - to evoke the spectre of Nazism and fascism in a different narrative context. That being established, I don’t think any of these examples really qualify as a failure to portray said ideologies in an “appropriate way”, as in all three instances, Nazism/fascism are clearly depicted as monstrous. Whether these are subtle, nuanced or historically detailed depictions of Nazism is a different question, but I don’t think it’s really possible to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Captain America or Star Wars: The Force Awakens and come away with the idea that Nazism is a Good Idea or that Nazis are Good Guys unless you already thought that to begin with, which is a different sort of problem altogether.

When I talked recently about the cutsefying of Nazis, I was doing so in response to a specific fandom example. I don’t think there’s been a recent narrative shift towards portraying Nazism as harmless or misunderstood otherwise, but I do think that stories have had an impact on how many people are reacting to current politics.

Namely: by virtue of having been in constant use as a narrative shorthand for These Guys Are Evil pretty much since WWII, Nazism has become, not so much diluted in the public consciousness as reduced to a form of background noise. The Nazis were - and are - genuinely horrifying, but for so many of us, that horror was never personal; it was something we learned about in school or saw portrayed cartoonishly in films and on TV at least as often as it was played straight, and somewhat paradoxically, this ubiquity has negatively impacted our collective understanding of it as a real threat in the actual real world. Saying, “The Nazis are rising!” in 2017, even if it happens to be true, sounds a lot like saying, “They’re taking the Hobbits to Isengard!”, because the first example many of us think of when we hear the word Nazi isn’t personal or historical, but narrative. They’ve turned into storybook monsters, and I think that makes a lot of people worry that the threat can’t really be as bad as all that, because Nazis are gone, aren’t they? Didn’t we already slay that particular dragon?

It is, I think, a similar phenomenon to how decades of stories about corrupt democratic governments and behind-the-scenes political conspiracies have normalised the idea that this sort of thing is just what happens. You see enough movies about shady backroom political deals being carried on for The Good Of The Nation, and even though such stories are meant to horrify us, they also serve as an emotional dry run for acceptance without action: generally speaking, you don’t go out and protest the real government because of something that happened in a fictional narrative.

Which is why, in counterpoint, stories about resistance - about revolution, about fighting back, about building new worlds and relearning the old lessons of history; which is to say, stories that are overwhelmingly filed under YA and SFF - are so very, very important. Narratives set in the real world, playing by real world rules, don’t tend to end with the world itself materially changed even when their plots are concerned with grand political conspiracies. There might be a great revelation of truth at the climax, but we don’t get to see the reconstruction or systematic upheaval that follows this pronouncement, because as soon as that happens, the genre changes from political thriller to dystopia, literary fiction to spec fic. As soon as you speculate a mechanism by which the current political defaults no longer exist, you’ve gone beyond the bounds of political thrillers and into a new realm entirely, and as such, I’m inclined to think there’s a material overlap between people who devalue SFF, comics and the like for not being “real enough” and people who lack the imagination to understand that their world can indeed be altered beyond recognition.

The problem with Nazis in modern literature isn’t that we’re failing to portray them as bad guys; it’s that too many of us have forgotten that they aren’t just fictional villains. We’ve looked the spectre of Nazism right in the face and declined to call it what it is, because the whole point of bogeymen is that they don’t really exist. Except that, in this instance, they do, and now we’ve jumped genres yet again. If we’re not careful, global politics won’t turn back into a bad thriller or veer off into spec fic.

It’ll be a horror story.

My partner and I just recently chose to have an open relationship. It's been going decent, but I've noticed in my time w him he is distracted with his new partner. I feel cheated in this. Trying to get to the bottom of these feelings and don't want to put constraints on him. Any advice?

Hey there!

Welcome to the world of NRE (New Relationship Energy)
When you are the one experiencing it, it’s wonderful. It’s exciting and your brain is like that of a kid after shit ton of pixie sticks. [”This is your brain, this is your brain on NRE” kind of thing…]
When you are the one watching your partner experience it, it can be… well, I think this sums it up many’s feelings perfectly:
“[…] your established partners would care to remind you that they’re still there. They still love you. They’re still important. They may not be the “new shiny” but they’ve still stuck by you for all this time and deserve just a little more attention, time, love, and respect. I think most poly partners can recognize when one of their partners are in NRE and make suitable allowances, but it can go south very quickly. You can quickly find yourself down a rabbit hole ignoring other partners which can lead to all kinds of bad. At this level, allowances and patience are thrown out the window and your pre-existing partners would insist you’ve “got your head up your ass”. At that point it’s time to wake up and start making changes.” [source

Talk to them about it. I’ve had to do it before and my partner(s) have had to do it to me before. Most of the time, you’re just too excited to notice that your partner is envious/sad/lonely/missing you and when it’s pointed out, you immediately thing, “oh, damn. You’re right. I’m so sorry. I’m going to make sure I spend some more quality time with you, or maybe set some limits on myself to ensure we get some quality time together”.

So Ray and Len are at the beach and while everyone is looking at Ray's toned body Ray is admiring his boyfriend's softer one.

i started writing this and then it got Out Of Hand so it’s going to be my poly fic for coldatom week but i’ll give you a little snippet of the beginning of it so you can enjoy and then sadly you’ll have to wait until coldatom week for the rest

Leonard hates the fucking beach.

The team finally makes it to Aruba, and Leonard only leaves the ship because Raymond promises to do anything he wants after. Leonard can think of a few things. It’s not like Raymond wouldn’t want to do those things anyway, it’s just nice to have an excuse.

So here he is, in swim trunks and a t-shirt. The only nice thing he can find is that he gets to admire his boyfriend, all shiny and muscled and playing beach volleyball with Sara, Nate, Jax, and Amaya against a team of what look to be frat boys on spring break.

It’s very lovely to admire his shirtless boyfriend doing strenuous (fun) exercise. Leonard also very much enjoys seeing a bunch of pretty girls (and a few pretty guys) ogling Raymond from afar. He takes pleasure in knowing that Raymond is his, and that his boyfriend’s eyes don’t stray. Well, they stray from the game, over to Leonard.

Raymond gets hit in the head a few times with the volleyball before Sara yells at him to pay attention. And even on the beach, Boy Scout has to listen to his captain.

Mick comes back from the bar with a beer for him and a frozen margarita for Leonard. He hands it over and then plops down in the next chair over; in the sun, as opposed to Leonard’s shade.

“You gonna stop being a whiny baby and enjoy the beach?” Mick asks, after a long drink from his bottle of beer.

“I am enjoying the beach,” Leonard says. “There,” he continues, pointing at Raymond, “that’s my enjoyment.”

Mick snorts. “Nah, you see that all the time. I mean get in the sun, in the water, have fun.”

Leonard shakes his head. “This is enough of my body on display. It’s bad enough the team can see the scars on my arms—I would’ve worn a long-sleeved shirt if I wouldn’t get weird looks for doing it—I don’t need them seeing the rest of my scars.”

Also he’d hate for the team, most of whom are rocking some pretty intense abs, to see his stomach on display. He’s in shape, it’s just that he’s in his mid-40s, and your body kind of gives up on being toned after that amount of years. Raymond loves it, so it’s not like Leonard is all that embarrassed by it, he just doesn’t like to compare it up against the rest of the team.

“Suit yourself,” Mick says, shrugging and turning his attention to the volleyball game.

Mick, on the other hand, actually likes showing off his scarred arms and torso, and is comfortably shirtless, resting his beer on his, well, beer gut. Leonard half-wishes he was as comfortable in his skin as Mick is, scars and all. Well, Mick’s scars are more recent, and self-inflicted. He’s made his peace with them. Leonard…hasn’t.

“Ah, to be young again,” the professor sighs from Leonard’s other side, a dollop of sunscreen on his nose, staring wistfully at the volleyball game.

“Hey, professor,” Mick says, “how about you go merge with Jax and really show those frat boys what you can do.”

Stein glares at Mick. “I think that’s the worst idea you’ve had today, Mr. Rory.”

“I completely agree with you, Professor,” Rip says, glowing like a beacon in his small patch of sunlight, sunscreen glistening on his scrawny torso.

Leonard and Mick cackle, and go back to watching the rest of the Legends kick some frat boy ass.

It’s definitely not a fair game, Leonard notes, as he sees Nate briefly turn to steel to hit the ball, and shift back before anyone thinks it was anything more than a trick of the light. Sara may not be super-powered, and Jax may not be Firestorm at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have an edge on these obnoxious frat boys. And Leonard isn’t sure that Amaya hasn’t activated one of her animal powers, even though he didn’t catch it.

To be fair, he’d been eyeing Raymond for most of the game, so he’s surprised he even caught Nate turning to steel. Although the flash of light glinting off his skin had been enough to draw Leonard’s eye for the split second the other man was metal. It’s just that Raymond is distracting, sunscreen mixing with sweat and causing his entire gorgeously-muscled torso to shine in the sunlight. Leonard can’t wait to get his mouth on that skin later, preferably after a shower, but he’s not picky.

To be continued…
