as a kid, being a jedi sounded like the coolest thing in the entire world, but now that i’m older i’m definitely seeing some :/// shit with the order
and honestly, that’s probably how it worked in universe. can you imagine being a kid and finding out that you could go be a hero? you could save people? you could change the world for the better?
everyone knows the stories, everyone knows that the jedi are the good ones, everyone talks about the things they’ve done. and as a kid, you’re gonna want to help everyone, you’re gonna want to do whatever it takes to protect the people you love
the younglings are young enough when they’re taken that they’re gonna listen to anything the masters tell them, they’re brains aren’t at a point where they can step back and say “hey, is this really right?”
they’re gonna trust the people taking care of them, they’re gonna trust the people they’ve always looked up to. why would they lie to them?
but you can’t just tell children to Not Be Angry, Or Jealous, Or Hate, Or Else. you have to show them how to cope with those emotions, don’t tell them they’re inherently bad and can never happen. kids see things in black and white, they can’t grasp the nuances of morality that young.
the masters are laying the groundwork for their belief system and if they don’t explain anything outside of “negative emotions = bad” they’re gonna get a bunch of kids who think they’re bad for feeling those negative emotions
you can’t tell children to not get attached to everyone. children need love and support and affection to develop emotionally, children are clingy and they need love and reassurance, and they aren’t gonna understand why the people who practically raised them can’t be that close to them because it’s Attachment
and next thing they know, they’re thrown into the middle of battle. ahsoka was a padawan when she was sent into the middle of a war. she was 14 in the show, even though i’m pretty sure they’re usually 13. and yes, war is messy and horrible and everyone involved lose their innocence. yes, children are caught in the crossfire, but the jedi order looked at this warzone and said “yes, let’s send a child there.”
hell, even obi wan wasn’t that old when he started training anakin. at the time of the prequels, the order was pretty much built on children forced to grow up too soon. that’s something that comes with war, but for a group of people built on the idea of protecting everyone, the jedi order sure seemed to fail in that respect.
and they failed with the clones too. the jedi believed in the worth of every living thing and that every living thing was worth protecting, and yet it seemed like obi wan, anakin, ahsoka, and plo koon were anomalies in treating the clones like people. they used an army of sentient beings raised to be cannon fodder and didn’t ask any questions about it, they didn’t give the clones a choice to fight because they were always meant to kill or die trying.
maybe the jedi were peacekeepers, protectors, once, but not when the prequels happened. maybe some were better at conveying their beliefs to younglings, but at the time of the prequels, they were definitely doing more harm than good.
I need some clarification because I'm confused. I don't get how people are blaming Fitz directly for actions in the Framework. They made it abundantly clear that it isn't him, its a program an algorithm that Aida created and plays with constantly to best suit HER desires. Fitz, our Fitz, isn't cognizant of any of this, the only people who are, are Daisy Jemma and Radcliffe. He doesn't really have a choice until what is now his unconscious mind starts to break free of the program, 1/2
like Coulson and now May, because Aida can just rewrite it again. Or am I just completely misreading (deaf watch with captions) everything they’ve said in the show? Any help you can give is appreciated. Is this just a case of people think in B&W instead of greyscale?
I don’t think you are misreading it at all and agree. The first thing is every time we have a story like this there are people who aren’t fans of the character its happening too that will jump on it. We had it last season with Daisy when she was Hived. And with Daisy we SAW it happen. We watched as the parasites went into her. She did not have a choice in her actions.
The other thing is we have had them contradict themselves. At first it seemed like a glaring plot hole but then I took a step back. Laid out the facts. And had a lovely all caps conversation with CTT and put the pieces together. Because you hit the nail on the head. This is now AIDA’s world. Everything and everyone in it is working towards her goals. And that is whatever the Darkhold is showing her what to do. And for that she needs Fitz.
And here is the thing, because of the story they are telling here Fitz would be working on it one way or another. They chose to go with the total brainwashing/reprogrammed/manipulated route. The other way they could have done it and I for one would have been upset had the did it? AIDA kidnapping Jemma as well and using her life as leverage to get him to do it.
AIDA said it was all on algorithms and she is a computer that can process those faster. So AIDA knew exactly what variables she had to adjust to get the outcome she needed. Essentially its you have a math problem and the answer needs to be 48…you plug in the numbers you have too, how you have too to get that answer. Now there are lots of ways to go about it but you choose the way you prefer/works best for you. Because she had other variables in play as well, ie the hostages fixes. She had to have those in account when she adjusted other things. Again this was ALL TO GET THE OUTCOME SHE NEEDED.
Once AIDA had the equation right she applied it and dropped the hostages into the mix and filled in the false memories. And what we need to look at is HOW FAST they are all shaking it. Though they have new memories to contend with the hostages haven’t been in there all that long and they are shaking it. Coulson was quickest due to the Tahiti thing. May got the jolt with the kids, Coulson, and Mace’s heroic sacrifice…remember that whole thing wouldn’t have happened how it did if a new variables AKA Daisy and Jemma hadn’t crashed the party. They changed the equation when they jumped it. That is why AIDA is panicking because it threatens to change the answer on her….and while she can reset the hostages she can’t reset Daisy and Jemma, they will just keep messing with her equation.
Now taking that into account we need to look at Fitz. Who we are seeing fight back. We saw him a lot last week, we saw the remorse, DESPITE everything AIDA did to him to MAKE him what she needed the real Fitz was already starting to break through. He was questioning the new programming! Again, I know it feels like we and they have been in the Framework for ages but in reality its not that long.
This scene here is quite possibly one of the most important scenes of the entire season. Jemma said that despite all he’s been through he still became the open, loyal, caring man we know and love today. AIDA programmed Framework Fitz and then put our Fitz into him…and OUR Fitz is fighting the programming already. DESPITE all the horrible things she programmed for that Fitz to do/done the second she put the real deal in there…he started to fight back. Because they are all more than their programming.
The Avatars that AIDA dropped them all into are much like their LMD’s were. Programmed for a purpose. “You have Fitz’s mind, why are you doing this?” Jemma asked. And that was the thing, it had Fitz’s mind…not his soul and not his heart. So he couldn’t fight the programming because he was a machine. Robo May was different, one of her programming things was to BE May, AIDA said there wasn’t time for that when she abducted the team. So since Robo May was programmed to be May…the May in her broke through to save her girls. That is why the team will be able to overcome the Avatars programming because she put them in there. Its not just their minds this time, its not mimicking, its them. They are who they are. They are heroes. Good people. That will fight the good fight. So like Robo May had to overcome her programming so does the team. And that takes time.
AIDA created the characters we are seeing through manipulating the Framework and their own memories. She made things happen because she needed them too. IE I need Fitz to turn left at this intersection so I’m going to close the road so he can’t turn right.
So we have a lot in play here. Manipulation at its highest levels. Fitz has been dropped into an Avatar that has been manipulated and brainwashed into the position he is in now. And DESPITE getting that our Fitz has started to peek through already. Going back to the Star Trek Descent Reference (seriously guys its on Netflix go watch it) his ethics chip was rebooted when he saw Jemma.
Everyone has to beat the manipulation. We have seen them all slip. Coulson who knows better than any of the hostages what is going on was still pulled back into it at the Prison. He still went into that building despite what he knows. It pulled him back in. Just like AIlistair and Ophelia pull Fitz back in when ours breaks free a bit.
Finally, AIDA is using a lot of what she learned watching Radcliffe. Lying. Its okay to Manipulate someone and their feelings to get what you want. The carrot/stick approach. IE Hope is a reward for Mack and she is far more effective in keeping him in place that detaining and torturing him would be. It doesn’t make him any less a prisoner. Mack was ‘programmed’ to keep his head down and stayed out of trouble…yet he’s with the resistance now. Because that is what OUR Mack would do. AIDA isolated most of the team from each other, surrounded them with avatars that would keep them in place.
Sorry that kind of got away from me. So no, in no way is Fitz or any of the other hostages responsible for the actions of their Avatars. Unless we have confirmation that they are 100% self aware and themselves when they do it. He is doing what he has been because that is what he was programmed to do. Its not them. They have programmed by AIDA and the new experiences she gave him. And he is already breaking it. That is a huge victory in its own right. They will all have set backs but they will get there. Because its who they are.
Alpha (Season 5):
You know Caboose, I used to not care. I just went along with orders, and hoped that everything would work out for me. But after all that's happened, you know what I've learned? It's not about hating the guy on the other side because someone told you to. I mean, you should hate someone because they're an asshole, or a pervert, or snob, or they're lazy, or arrogant or an idiot or know-it-all. Those are reasons to dislike somebody. You don't hate a person because someone told you to. You have to learn to despise people on a personal level. Not because they're red, or because they're blue, but because ya know them, and you see them every single day. And you can't stand them, because they're a complete and total fucking douchebag.
Epsilon (Season 8):
I'd like to say that I found her right away, that I just walked into the Epsilon Unit, and there she was, waiting for me. As you can probably guess, it didn't happen that way, but, I know she's in here somewhere, and I'll find her. We always seem to find each other, for better or for worse. I don't know why the Director did what he did. I don't know if he was trying to revive a memory from his past, or if he was just trying to get it out of his head. But I figured out something that the Director didn't. It took Alpha, Delta, and the rest to help piece it together for me, but what I've learned is that a great love is a lot like a good memory. When it's there, and you know it's there, but it's just out of your reach, it can be all that you think about. You can focus on it, and try to force it, but the more you do, the more you seem to push it away. But if you're patient, and you hold still, then maybe... Just maybe... It will come to you. I just need to make sure I'm somewhere she can find me. I think this place is a little different than it was before. See, out there, everything is based on the Alpha, but in here, I guess I'm the Alpha. And maybe this time through, things will be a little different for me as well. I guess I'll find out. And I mean, hell, if you have to live the rest of your life in a memory... you might as well make it a good one.
Epsilon (Season 13):
It was Doyle who made me realize something I never thought of before. There are so many stories that some brave hero to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everyone lives happily ever after. But the hero never sees gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually makes a difference, they'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just need to have faith. Ain't that a bitch?
Ran-nee-chan. I need to tell you something. My true identity...
...is Kamen Yaiba, right? Remember, you told me so yourself. At the Tohto Tower.
Conan-kun is brave. Just like Kamen Yaiba. Remember the last episode we watched together? The Revenge of Duke Potato... Kamen Yaiba was almost defeated because Potato Tribe took Keiko-chan, his friend and love, hostage. That was horrible don't you think? To use a person he love to trick him...
Kamen Yaiba is a hero. He saved this planet so many times. But he sure is tragic character. Because he can't be honest with the person he loves. And you know what? I think Keiko-chan knows that... in the very depth of her heart, she knows that her friend who works with her at Hot dog stand is actually Yaiba. But she forbids herself from thinking further. Because if she'll really... really belive in it, then everybody will be in danger. Not just her. Kamen Yaiba himself would be in danger. Because... there's no way she would act the same near him. Because if she'll know, it would be easier for Duke Potato to find Kamen Yaiba. And if he does, he will win.
Ran-nee-chan... you really...
You really like Kamen Yaiba...
Right. I really like this story.
I'm going to spend this night at professor's. He created a new game, so...

Solangelo one-shot, 2,778 words, general audiences. It goes through three casual moments in Will and Nico’s relationship. Set in canon!verse, not-spoilerish. Low-key inspired by a conversation I had with the lovely @ynysafallon, in which we shared some Solangelo headcanons. Hope you enjoy!
The day was exceptionally hot. Perfect for staying inside the Arts & Crafts building or having a picnic under the shadow of some tree. Maybe taking a nap in a hammock. Nico wouldn’t have minded any of those options.
Instead, Chiron thought it was a great idea if they all “enjoyed the beautiful day outside”.
(And of course Will agreed with him.)
“C’mon, it can’t be that bad, Death Boy.” Will said, distracted, while dragging Nico towards the volleyball court. By now, Nico was used to touch, and even welcomed it. It didn’t mean it had stopped feeling electric when Will was the one to do so. Nico was equal parts glad and annoyed by it. “It’s better than wrestling with the Ares cabin.” He motioned to his right with his head, where Clarisse was shoving someone’s head into the dirt.
“I could kick her ass.” Nico informed him.
“Volleyball is better. Besides, Jason is the one who invited us to play. And Piper.” He said as they entered the court. That caught Nico’s attention. His friends were visiting for the weekend. Nico had no particular interest for sports, but it was only fair that he spent more time with them, even if this was what they wanted to do.
He sighed. “Fine. But don’t we need more people? Say, six on each team?” He reminded Will, who shrugged.
“Not beach volleyball, no.”
“Nico! You actually came!” Jason yelled from the other side of the court, delighted. He started to run to the newcomers while Piper stayed behind, observing them as if confident they would go down.
“Listen, I already talked to Piper and everything, and you can totally be on my team.” Jason offered, his hands in fists. He looked as if he’d start bouncing with excitement at any moment.
“Oh, um… Nice, but listen…” Nico started, then paused, thinking about how best to reject the offer. “Um, do you mind if I stay with Will, this once? I mean, you have Piper, right?” It sounded ruder than in his head, but now it was late to take it back. Jason didn’t seem offended, though. Only surprised, his eyes wide and taken aback posture. He glanced between Will — who was absentmindedly stretching beside the son of Hades — and Nico as if just realizing something.
Nico scrunched his eyebrows, thinking back to what he said and not finding anything shocking at all. What could he—
You have Piper…
As I have Will.
“Not like that, Jason.” He hissed, clenching his hands in tight fists.
“I mean it.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You thought, and… you’re wrong. We’re just friends.” He muttered the last part.
“Okay. Okay, right.” Jason said, lifting his open palms in a defensive posture while walking backwards. However, his expression was amused. His eyes gleamed in a way that said he was probably thinking about his best man speech for Nico and Will’s wedding. He winked and gave Nico thumbs-up.
The son of Hades considered himself to be relatively polite, but right then he felt tempted to flip him off.
For his contentment, Jason tripped on his own feet and fell on his butt on the sand. Will breathed out a laughter beside him.
“Serves him right.” Nico mumbled, still too annoyed to even smirk. It wasn’t like that.
(Which didn’t mean Nico didn’t daydreamed about how it would be.)
(But that was completely normal.)
(…Gods, he needed a break.)
“Okay. What was that about?” Will asked after a moment of silence between them. Nico gathered up courage and looked up at the other boy, but he didn’t need to worry; Will wasn’t looking at him. He was instead glancing at Piper and Jason, who was saying something to his girlfriend. He was frowning, confused, and there was something unreadable in his eyes that Nico wasn’t sure he wanted to decipher. It seemed… sad. It looked wrong in the healer’s face.
“Nothing.” He said too quickly, which brought Will’s attention back to him. Will’s look was searching, and Nico instinctively tried to make his expression neutral. It was a stupid tactic, of course. His face looked annoyed per usual, and trying to make it blank tended to make Will see right through him.
It wasn’t different this time, although Nico wasn’t sure what the healer had found in his face to make him smile that brightly. Gone was the undecipherable look in his eyes, and Nico couldn’t help but feel quite relieved. He felt his heart clench in his chest at the sight of that grin; he should be over it by now, but now and then Will managed to take his breath away again.
“You like me, don’t you?” Will said slowly, testing the words, unsure about them. His smile didn’t falter, though. Instead, his gaze became even more curious as he looked into Nico’s eyes. The son of Hades couldn’t think very straight.
“If I didn’t like you, I wouldn’t be here, you idiot.” He added for good measure, but his voice sounded shaky and nervous nonetheless, and Will threw his head back and laughed, delighted.
“You do.” He sounded almost awed now, and Nico opened his mouth to deny it, but the words never left. He knew the precise moment when he lost control of his expression and let the panic show, because Will’s happiness faltered and his eyes grew serious. “It’s a good thing you like me, because I do like you. A lot. Like, like like you.”
“Are you ten?”
Will waited, observing as Nico looked away from his gaze and focused on taking deep breaths, as Will had taught him, so as to avoid hyperventilating.
Finally, Nico looked up, his eyes still showing some fear.
“It doesn’t freak you out? Not a tiny bit? I mean… I’m a guy.” His voice was low in the last part.
Will pondered, serious, before answering.
“Hi, A Guy. I’m bisexual.”
“Yeah. It doesn’t freak me out.” He suddenly grinned. “Wait, does that mean you really like me, then?”
Nico rolled his eyes and looked away.
“I did, but now I’m reconsidering it.” He mumbled, which made Will laugh.
Were 3-weeks anniversaries supposed to be special? Nico didn’t have a clue, and he didn’t really care. All he knew was that Will let him sleep until 10:30AM (Nico fell in love with him all over again), woke him up with kisses, then dragged him to their making-out spot in the woods, carrying a basket with him. He then proceed to lay out a picnic blanket on the grass and serve the food — sandwiches, strawberry scones, grapes, cocoa balls, and juice. Nico didn’t know where Will had gotten all of that, but he felt so relaxed, so content as Will beamed and rambled on the important of 3-weeks anniversaries, that he didn’t even ask.
After eating, they made out — of course.
It was very good. Nico was very happy. But there was a thought bugging — that stupid voice that dragged him down after the war with Gaia, and still did sometimes. What if Will didn’t think Nico was as invested in this relationship as him? What if he wanted Nico to change, to show more affection in public and call him those annoying couple names? It wasn’t something Nico was comfortable with, and they hadn’t talked about it yet, but Will seemed to know his limits, until now… But still, for how long would he accept them?
“Will,” He broke the kiss, reluctant and breathless, but the voice was irritating him too much. Will glanced down at him with confusion, still a little dazed. “You know I like you, right?”
He hadn’t meant to say that, but Will narrowed his eyes, as if processing those words was a complex task.
“Well, I have to say… I’m glad you’re making out with someone you like instead of, I don’t know, a mortal enemy or some—” He laughed when Nico slapped his arm.
“Stop being an idiot.” He said before he could think about the words, then his smile — he didn’t know he had been smiling; it was amazing that it didn’t hurt anymore — faltered. This was the exact type of behavior that he should avoid. “I mean, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, okay? About the insults and my lack of enthusiasm for… life, in general?” He breathed out, arms still embracing Will’s neck while his boyfriend straddled him on the ground. “I don’t think you’re an idiot. I just… I like our relationship the way it is, all of it, but I’ll understand if, if you don’t—”
“Honey, are you trying to make me leave on our anniversary? Seriously? You have the worst timing ever.”
Nico gave him a look. Will sighed.
“Nico, I know you don’t think I’m an idiot. I know this is your way of being, and guess what? That’s the Nico I fell in love with. My annoying brat friend who can’t pretend to be nice to save his life.”
“Hey! I’ll get you for that.” Nico said, his voice more affectionate than he’d planned. Will ignored that remark, choosing to lean in closer, until he was an inch away from Nico’s earlobe.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, darling.” His voice was low, and it sent a shiver down Nico’s spine.
Nico didn’t think there was any ideal condition to meet Hades in a pleasant way. This, though, didn’t even reach his low expectations.
They’d needed an army from the Underworld to defeat the giants. And the aid of the five children of the Big Three, along with the other four Heroes of Olympus. And the Greek and Roman armies.
Nico was tired. He was filthy, and thirsty, and felt like lying down and not moving for about three days straight. The children of Apollo were already fussing over those whose had been injured. Will, on the other hand, was using his healing powers on Percy’s poisonous lacerations.
Seeing Will using his powers was both fascinating and horrifying. Fascinating because beautiful golden light was expelled from his fingers in threads, reaching the wound and curing it; and horrifying because Will got visibly weaker after using it — paler, out of breath, trembling. He was much better at it than years ago, in the Battle of Manhattan, but he could still cure about seven people this way without exhausting himself, and Percy was the ninth.
“Stop it, you idiot.” Nico muttered, stepping closer to him. Even in his tired state, his mind computed that Will hadn’t been wounded, and he was relieved.
“This is the last one. Kayla can take care of the rest. I just—” He narrowed his eyes, and the brightness from the healing light vanished as Will stopped making it. He fell on his knees on the floor, panting. Nico knelt beside him in an instant, dropping his sword and embracing his boyfriend instead. He saw Percy give him a thumbs-up, indicating he was already fine, thank you very much.
“It’s okay. You healed them. No one’s dead.” Saying those words felt like a miracle, like a blessing. He would make sure to comfort Will and then help the other healers. He’d like everyone to return to camp safe and sound, for once. He kissed Will’s cheek, murmuring comforting things as his boyfriend hugged him back.
And that’s how Hades found them.
Will was the one who saw him first, and he froze. Nico looked behind his back, and said “oh”. It was a way of describing the situation.
None of them said anything for a while.
Then Nico stood up, helping Will up as well. He gave one look to his boyfriend, who nodded and managed to lift up one side of his lips for a fraction of second, silently giving him permission.
“Thanks for the army, dad.” Nico started.
“No problem. These are just some skeletons I had lying around the place, so.” He shrugged, shifting his glance between Nico, Will, and the ground.
“So… this is my boyfriend, Will. Solace. He is great, really.” He paused, then added, “He’s my best friend.”
The last part sounded somewhat more honest than the rest, even though it was all true. He hoped his attempt of securing a spot in Elysium for Will wasn’t too obvious.
Hades considered this information with a thoughtful expression. He frowned his lips, but seemed only pensive instead of angry or distressed; he scratched his chin.
“Child of Apollo, huh?” He nodded once. “I guess I understand the appeal quite well.” He murmured, glancing to his right. Nico followed his gaze and saw Persephone kneeling down, examining a warrior’s sprained ankle. “The summer… The warmth, can be very welcome to us.” He looked back at them while Nico scrunched his eyebrows.
“Dad, it’s not like that at all.” I mean, sure he liked to cuddle with the ball of warmth he called boyfriend, but that wasn’t relevant. He didn’t date people based on their body temperature. What the actual Zeus?
Hades gave him an amused look, one corner of his lips lifting up, and Nico had the funny impression he’d misunderstood his father’s words.
“I know.” He said, then all the amusement vanished from his face and became a glare the second he turned to his son’s boyfriend. “William Solace.”
Nico felt his boyfriend tense up beside him, but still Will stepped forward — slowly, still not recovered from all that healing —, and knelt down, bowing.
“It’s an honor and a pleasure to finally meet you, sir.” He said. It was clear to anyone hearing him how nervous he was, but he didn’t flinch or backed off. Nico felt a surge of pride and affection in his chest, and he felt like smiling a little.
Hades’ expression changed for a second, bewildered and unsure, and he considered Will with new eyes.
“Well. I hadn’t heard anything like that for a while.” He sounded satisfied, and motioned for Will to stand up, which he did, slowly. Nico walked forward and grabbed his hand, interlacing their fingers, silently supporting him. Will squeezed it once in acknowledgment.
Hades sighed quietly, nodding once again.
“Okay. I won’t interfere. I want to talk to you in private, though.” He pointed at Will.
“Sure.” Will’s voice was tremulous. He was undoubtedly visualizing his fate as an eternity in the Fields of Punishment.
“It doesn’t have to be now. I see you are all suffering the consequences of battle.” He motioned to the drained warriors and healers running with supplies and stretchers. Nico couldn’t feel anyone in immediate danger, though. “I would invite you to dinner,” His voice was uncertain, just like it got when he talked about mortals’ habits. “But then you’d have to stay in the Underworld forever, and I believe you’d like to live a few more years?”
“That would be great.” Will said, his voice low and in a higher pitch than normal. Hades nodded again.
“Meanwhile, keep doing whatever it is that you’re doing to make him happy.” He motioned his head to Nico’s direction. “I see his health is improved.” He commented, and Nico could sense the shift in Will’s posture; how he stood a bit taller, and his voice was no longer tremulous, now that the conversation topic was something health-related.
“He is much better, in all aspects. He’s still stubborn with some things,” Glare at Nico. “But he is headed in the right direction, sir. I assure you that.”
Hades raised his eyebrows, probably taken aback by Will’s sudden boost of confidence, then sent Nico a pointed look.
“Stubborn, huh? We’ll talk about that.”
“Look what you’ve done.” Nico hissed so that only Will heard.
“I have to go now.” Hades said as Persephone appeared beside him, looking tired.
“Ready to go?” She asked, offering her hand. He took it and squeezed it once.
“Sure.” He said gently. He glanced at the boys one last time. “I’ll see you soon. Nico. Will.”
And then he, Persephone, and the hundreds of skeletons in the field disappeared.
Will almost fell on his knees again, relieved.
“I’m alive.” He said as if it was the most unbelievable statement of history. Nico laughed quietly, hugging his boyfriend.
“Of course you’re alive, dummy. I like you, he wouldn’t kill anyone I like.” Then he thought better and frowned. “Probably. Maybe. Okay, you know what? Let’s celebrate your survival.”
Will laughed and hugged Nico back.
“I love you.”
Nico held on tighter.
“I love you too.”
Will smiled a little, still looking exhausted, but happy.
“Good.” He said, and kissed his boyfriend.
Just to make it clear… What Hades meant was people with sunny, warm personalities and auras. Not elevated body temperatures. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it!
stereotypical school bully from like any tv show when you were a kid. then turns out THEY were bullied but you're still kind of like "screw that guy"
They're the villain you don't see coming. First there's this really obviously evil person but then the Arizona Coyotes kill them and you're all happy about it but then they lock you in a room to die on a deserted island that no one knows about and take off in a helicopter.
The smug arrogant villain. The "I've always won" villain. The villain in a boxing movie where they've gone undefeated and say something terrible about your past demons. This is what gives you the motivation to beat them. Ultimately they were their own downfall.
They're the villain because all their life no one did shit for them so they had to do it for themselves but nO ONE TAUGHT THEM THAT MEANT NOT KILLING PEOPLE
That kid in school everybody likes and is always smiling and sweet but you know deep down there is something wrong with them.
The rich guy who wants to tear apart an old park that you grew up in to build a strip mall.
was birthed under a love spell therefore can never feel human emotions. the ultimate evil.
The old guy who is granted one wish so he wishes to be young again so he can finally be a success. Is ready to trample on anyone to get to the top.
Columbus Blue Jackets:
Is REALLY evil THEY PROMISE can someone just TAKE THEIR EVILNESS SERIOUSLY.
Doesn't know they've turned into a villain, was always the hero in their own eyes and then at the end of the movie the rain is pouring and they catch a sight of their reflection and see the damage they've caused. "Look what you've done" the hero says "this isn't who you are."
Detroit Red Wings:
The villain you killed in the beginning of the movie just before the credits who comes back stronger than ever in the final fight scene
So you see someone broke down on the side of the road. You get out to help them but they steal your car instead. Then a few hours of walking down the road you find them broken down AGAIN this time with your car. that's the oilers.
You had to study for your midterm and they offer to help. They have you study the wrong chapters. You fail and they get a 100.
Pretty self explanatory. Your a lone survivor from a plane crash. They're the wilderness that throws as many terrible things at you as possible.
The old monarch! Sits atop their throne and when told that their citizens are fighting over bread, ask why they don't just eat cake instead.
The really hot villain that you have a weird romantic tension with.
New Jersey Devils:
Lock you in the janitors closet and steal your song for the talent show. You escape just in time to do your own performance. You improv a guitar solo. You win. they stomp off in defeat.
New York Islanders:
the tragic villain. You can empathize with their ways.
New York Rangers:
The cool uncle that crashes into your life and gets you into a lot of trouble and when your family tries to point it out you get pissed and run off.
The opposite of the Arizona Coyotes. Thinks they're a lot more relevant to the plot of the story than they are.
YOu know that episode of spongebob with the guys in the leather jackets snapping. That's them. Were they bad guys? I think so.
the Evil queen from snow white
San Jose Sharks:
The villain in a recurring tv show that loses every time but keeps coming back. For example: Swiper from dora the explorer.
St Louis Blues:
Everyone thinks their the ultimate evil and they're like "okay sure, i'm evil, but have you checked out this other guy? you should probably check that out" and everyone's like "RED HERRING" and they're like "okay yeah i'm not going to stop robbing banks but you should REALLY check the other guy out."
Tampa Bay Lightning:
the vampire your mom starts dating and you need to call on less evil vampires to save her.
Toronto Maple Leafs:
....let's not kick them while they're down
YOUR BIGGEST FAN that you screwed over when they were like 10 and now they won't let it go and come back years later when you have a family to exact revenge. so basically, the incredibles.
Every guy in a break up song by Taylor Swift.
a lost phone signal that causes a really important text not to be sent without you knowing it.
You've mentioned that you don't enjoy the Laurel Lance character and were put off by her since the beginning. My question is, if you were an Arrow writer, how would you write LL? What background history would you have given her, how would you have made her BC? How would you have written her relationship with Oliver?
That certainly does sound like me! :)
If I were an Arrow writer, I would demote Laurel to a recurring character. My preferred Laurel Lance is Lawyer Laurel Lance. Laurel as a lawyer is the only capacity in which she brings something unique to the team that nobody else on the show is capable of bringing*, and I think that the show letting her be useful as an attorney could make her feel much more relevant than packaging her in leather and tossing her out into the field. Lawyer Laurel popping in whenever Team Arrow needs a source in the justice department would work for me in a way that shoehorning her in as vigilante does not.
I actually don’t have a problem with Laurel’s backstory. I do wish that Arrow would just go ahead and let Laurel admit that she was a gold-digger back before the Gambit went down. I would honestly respect pre-island Laurel so much more as a gold-digger than as somebody who found anything redeemable in Sir Poorly-Coiffed Cheats-A-Lot to want to marry him. Pre-island Ollie is my least favorite character of all of Arrow, and I can’t not judge Laurel for being with him unless she had an understandable excuse. I’d genuinely think better of her if she were with Ollie because of his money.
I would not have made her Black Canary. I’ve said this before, but I definitely don’t mind saying it again: I don’t believe that this show needs a Black Canary. I’m not a comics reader, but I’m told that Black Canary is quite a hero in her own right. Elevating Laurel Lance to Black Canary on a show that is not called Black Canary has done more harm than good. Arrow is Oliver’s story, and Oliver still has a ways to go. If Laurel was going to become Black Canary, it should have been after the end of Oliver’s flashbacks so that he could work as a guide on the path toward effective vigilantism rather than a guy struggling to hold onto the spotlight of his own show.
Sidebar: it’s never not going to bother me when other characters’ crucibles are equated with Oliver’s for the sake of fast-forwarding them to comic destinies. The only crucible that I’ll equate to Oliver’s is Sara’s, and that’s why I was okay with Sara’s skills being somewhat on par with Oliver’s.
As to how I would have written Laurel’s relationship with Oliver…well, I’m actually pretty happy with the terrible writing for her relationship with Oliver, because the implosion of her relationship with Oliver allowed for Oliver/Felicity to happen, and I love who Oliver is around Felicity. I don’t enjoy the version of Oliver that emerges around Laurel.
That said, I definitely would not have written the sister swapping into Laurel and Oliver’s backstory. If Oliver was going to “die” on the Gambit while cheating on Laurel, I would have made it pretty much any other character. I don’t have any sisters, but I can’t imagine wanting to get back together with a guy who cheated on me with somebody that close to me, let alone a guy who took her on a sex cruise that made me believe that she was dead for the better part of a decade. I always try to relate to female characters, but I could not relate to Laurel right off the bat.
I also would have toned down the vitriol toward him after he came back from the island. She had every right to be furious with him, but as a writer, I would not have had her spitting death wishes at him while every other scene shows him either paying for his mistakes in the flashbacks or working to save his city in the present. It did Laurel no favors, and it kept Laurel/Oliver from being enjoyable for me.
I saw your Stucky/Patrochilles parallels post on the TSOA tag and I need to ask you to develop the idea cause it sounds great (but I don't see it help D: )
I think you want this to be specific to Patrochilles in TSOA so all of this is specific to the book, not the mythology. So for most of the parallels I see Steve a Patroclus and Bucky as Achilles, but there’s a few moments where I see them in reverse of that. Anyways. It’s gonna be long, like really long, bc there’s A Lot so I’m putting it under a read more.
;( Do you think Kishimoto will take back those 12 years? I don't believe it takes 12 years to kill someone. Sasuke leaving for the 3 time was a slap in the face for us SS shippers because we all wanted him happy. If there wasn't any SSS family just with T7 there together would've made me happy we weren't asking for a damn kiss dammit. What reasons could cause him to leave for 12 years? I'm forgiving him if he went to jail only lol.D; Maybe Sakura doesn't want to tell Sarada? 2 elders are alive.
Considering the sequel is a miniseries, maybe as short as 10 chapters long, and that the 700 original preserved for the major part a character consistency for S&S, I don’t see how Kishimoto could screw up so bad if he didn’t have an exquisitely evil and heart-wrenching resolution in mind. Right now it could go either way. As to what are my guesses? I haven’t got the slightest clue, with Kishi it’s pretty much impossible to predict the details. The Kaguya definitive defeat is a possibility… but why staying away for so long with his sharinnegan teleportation? Being on a quest to save his family or the Uchiha honor is good too, but why hide it from Sarada? The “saving Sarada from Itachi’s desease” or “to cure her eyes” are far-reaching, but I can’t exclude them with Kishi. The JP fandom is into the genjutsu hypothesis and it’s spreading among us westerners, it would justify Sakura’s odd behaviour. However this option too has low chances imo with the forms I’ve seen circulating so far.
Kishi hinted at existential!Sarada, an extension of existential!Sasuke’s obsession with the meaning of family, clan, shinobi, village, and life lulz.
That’s why I’m pretty confident with the Sasuke = Itachi 2.0. Does Kishi want people to love Sasuke as much as his brother? idk
Kishi dug a very deep hole for himself, so I am concerned with the solidity of a plot twist resolution which doesn’t undermine the essence of the characters involved. For now I’ll roll along with my critical eye open.
Sasuke gone is a slap in the face to anyone who learned anything from this manga about friendship and redemption, so don’t worry too much. If he hasn’t experienced happy days in Konoha with Sakura, Naruto, and the others, I’d say there’s no justice in the plot. For the first time in so long I’m concerned with where the story is heading. Thumbs up to Kishi for achieving so much AFTER the series ended! Sarada didn’t deserve to get dragged into petty drama, but look at the fandom, so many non-SS folks feel for her and wish her the best. Kishi’s choices seem effective to the least. Sakura also needs to be his accomplice, if she has to “forgive” Sasuke once again, I won’t be able to support this sequel. Sasuke doesn’t need any more forgiving, and his redemption was over by the end of Sakura’s Hiden. Sakura’s most sane chapter panel hints that this is the case. It bugs me it’s always the Uchiha, but what is there to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there’s a reason why this clan stole my heart.
I understand how you feel about Cas and why, but can you understand that Cas fans feels that Dean's validation isn't enough? That they don't see Dean as the highest authority of Cas' worth and wether Cas needs it or not, Chuck acknowledging Cas as a hero as the same time as Dean and Sam would place Cas with them as an equal? That Cas being the only one not saying ANYTHING to Chuck feels neglectful? Also, one talk with Dean is not a satisfying conclusion to Cas' arc. Cas is more than Dean's LI.
Um, yes? Because I am a Cas fan, too?
Dean never got that final absolution from his father either, because that is NOT WHAT A MASCULINE FORCE DOES?!
That’s what the divine feminine does.
And the ONLY thing that matters, that TRULY matters in a balanced story is acceptance of self.
Really, please go read that thing about the Heroine’s Journey.
The final subversion of the masculine isn’t about receiving validation by the Father Figure, it’s about realizing you never needed it at all.
This is the, “YOU HAD THE POWER INSIDE YOU THE WHOLE TIME!” moment.
And that has NOTHING to do with Cas receiving validation from Dean, but from HEARING THE WORDS and ACCEPTING THAT THEY ARE TRUE FOR HIMSELF.
Chuck (and God) are rendered IRRELEVANT by this. Their Fathers are NOT an idealized source of validation and approval as their sole means of finding acceptance of themselves. Cas DID NOT ASK CHUCK FOR VALIDATION.
And why is that so important to me? It was finally FINALLY a subversion of of the hurt and rejection Cas felt at the end of 5.16, when he’d cursed and disowned God and went through his first struggle with identity, purpose, and self.
It also subverted Cas’s calling out for a sign, ANYTHING from God, in 6.20 when he was struggling to make the hardest choice of his existence. And again, Chuck failed to answer him, and Cas made that hard choice anyway.
He’s been struggling WITHIN HIMSELF to come to terms, to do penance, to absolve HIMSELF of the horrors he unleashed on the world through that choice. ENTIRELY INDEPENDENTLY OF CHUCK.
CAS DID THIS FOR HIMSELF.
At this point, the ONLY validation Cas NEEDED was from within himself.
Just like John Winchester’s influence has been rendered irrelevant, so has God’s.
THAT is what was significant in Dean helping Cas come to that conclusion.
It’s NOT about romantic love saving the day, it’s about acceptance and purpose and validation FROM HIMSELF.
And this is IN NO WAY A CONCLUSION OF CASTIEL’S ARC. Like, seriously, read the thing about the Heroine’s Journey.
THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEGINNING OF CASTIEL’S ARC, because for the first time in… literally EVER, he’s beholden to NO ONE BUT HIMSELF. He’s no longer beholden to the wishes and commands of his father. HE HAS TRANSCENDED THAT.
Is this not what every Cas Fan has ever wanted?
Yeah, yeah. I know. People wanted him to yell, people wanted him to get an apology. But we know what Chuck’s apologies were worth. In the end, Cas saw Chuck for what he was, the truly broken half of a whole. Seeking an apology or an explanation or validation after seeing behind the curtain? To me, that would’ve been a HUGE step backward for Cas. I, personally, am GLAD Cas understood that everything he’s ever done, everything he’s ever sought, has validated itself.
At this point, I feel like I’m just yelling into an echo chamber. Either bitter Cas fans will get it, or y’all won’t. Because yes, I am a HUGE Cas fan, but not to the exclusion of being able to integrate his personal story into the whole and therefore see the larger picture, and the true significance of Cas’s place in the story. And that’s not the way I want to engage with this show, because that way lies pain.
Thematically, Cas’s journey is mirrored and paralleled with Dean’s (and to a certain extent with Sam’s, but in a slightly different way). It has been from the start, when they bonded over their respective Daddy Issues way back in s5. Looking at EITHER of their journeys independent of the other’s is fundamentally setting yourself up for disappointment.
Gah, I think that’s all I have to say on the matter, but I just feel compelled to try and share out some of the excitement and passion I feel for the story when someone comes directly to my inbox from a place of disappointment. I hope this kind of helps, and I hope I haven’t come across as being disrespectful, because really that’s the last thing I want.
But really, bringing this “Well, REAL CAS FANS™ SHOULD…” to my inbox, knowing my opinion on the matter already since I literally just published 3k words on the subject, I really don’t know how else to react here.
I was happy enough letting y’all be bitter over there without bringing it up, but I had to assume that this was specifically dropped in my inbox in an attempt to elicit clarification on exactly why I am content with this particular resolution. The only alternative is that y’all have shown up to try and shame me into the Right Way Of Being Properly Hurt Because of Cas’s Unfair Treatment, and hon, if that’s the intent behind the influx of Cas-related ask messages in my inbox today, you have come to the wrong inbox.
