i'm not sure if it's work that way

People talk a lot about how Harry Potter taught them about friendship and bravery and love overcoming evil etc and of course I think that’s very important but like…

Harry Potter also taught an entire generation of kids that the news media can’t always be trusted to tell the truth, that the government can often be corrupt or incompetent, that the legal system isn’t always right, that the people in power don’t always have your best interests at heart. That bad things sometimes happen to good people, that your heroes aren’t always as perfect as you think they are, that even those with the best intentions can be wrong, that everyone can make mistakes and that often in order to make things right it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice.

…and I think in a way that’s every bit as important as the more positive messages.

For me, all I’m going to focus on is to make sure I don’t treat her any differently. I don’t want her to grow up thinking that her gender makes a difference… I want her to be a good person and make good choices, but I don’t want to push her in a direction that I want her to go. But I do want her to feel like her gender doesn’t limit what direction she can go.

Hi! I want to ask advice.I'm learning fine art at a university, and try to do my best, but every day I feel like the fandom groups/facebook etc. slowly but surely kill my passion for 3 years. Ignorance, humiliation, disregard. I'm at my wit's end. I dont know what should I do, I want to keep drawing, but I feel like its pointless, and no matter how hard I try my artwork is useless. I feel like I'm making a mistake by believing, I can work as an artist, and I should search for something else.

This message kind of makes me very sad.

There’s one thing I can advice. Quit the groups and fandom circles that make you burn out so much. There is no way every single fan in a fandom you love is ignorant, or humiliating, or disregarding. Find YOUR people who will support you and re-charge your passion.

I feel like it’s in a way how I feel about tumblr recently. I see so many posts on my dashboard that either make me super bitter or annoyed…I kind of feel like a sea of salt after I spent too much on tumblr, but whenever I’m out of it I’m back to the ray of sunshine. I guess there are blogs and posts I feel no longer connected to. And it’s normal.

SO. Try finding someone you connect to. Having a one loyal friend in a fandom you can always talk to is much better than seeing the art (even if it’s great art) from a person you don’t understand.

There is absolutely no way that your artwork is USELESS. I generally feel that the main point of art should be bringing YOU joy. If you draw there should be something you love about it. I guess it shouldn’t really rely on recognition only.

Also, I might sound like Katara, but hey, faith pays off. If you truly believe in something it’s going to get you there eventually.

Hey yo my dude. I just started to read your comic & it's really great honest to my future grave I read it all in one night whilst admiring your art all at the same time. This is just my curiousity but do you use refs to draw out your backgrounds & scenery ? I'm not big on backgrounds, well drawing them anyway. I just wasn't sure if you're just naturally imaginative or you need a bit help along the way ya know ... if this makes sense ???? Sorry ... Bottom line great work seriously ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

Thanks!! I use refs a lot! But some things I just try to BS along the way

I can’t tell if my art is bad or? How do you receive attention online? Is it just a matter of posting the right thing at the right time with the right tags? Or posting all the time? Or maybe just purely fan art? How do y'all do it, lmao

As for me, I got lucky by posting for the right fandom at the right time! After that well… you just try your best to continue capturing people’s interests with whatever you can draw and improve! Fan art and original are fine.

vel ik this is a weird question but do you think that you could post all of your brushes and their settings ?? even if you don’t use them someone else could ?? also i’m curious abt what they are

Can I ask you how do you create th smoke effect you used in your last Dva artwork? love your art!

Just keep airbrushing!! Use large strokes and circles for smoke, and the occasional fringe!

(Apologies for the English in advance! ) *Me and my friend, lying on the bed at 4 am* Them: “Do you ever just see velocesmells’ art and start crying?” Me: *Already in tears* Me: “Y-yeah!” Me: *Notices the tears streaming down their face* Them: “Not even ashamed.” We love the arts you make! Very beautiful colorings and the eyes are the favorites!

T-this is so cute… thank you ;_;

so I have this dumb fic idea where taako gets sick (bc I’m sick rn and if I have to suffer then so does he) and gets a fever and krav Freaks Out bc he hasn’t been mortal in centuries?? How does one take care of people?? plus who knows how elves are different

and uhh this is either before suffering game and taako refuses the help of the other thb for some reason or it’s post canon and lup and barry are unavailable (they’re on a high stakes mission and krav keeps getting their fantasy voicemail)

I can’t seem to make this work into a fic but I wanted to put the idea out there

Marinette Bourgeois

So, after seeing this gifset, I wondered what might happen if Chloe made a little mistake when she tried to call Marinette by her full name. @agrestenoir and @breeeliss encouraged me, and well, here we are. Hope you enjoy!

Every morning began the same way. Marinette was almost used to it now, even if she dreaded it. Chloe would saunter up to her desk and give her daily critique of Marinette’s appearance before tossing her hair and returning to her seat at the front of the classroom. By now, Marinette was accustomed to it, and the harsh words rolled off her much easier than they had in years past, but she was eager for the day Chloe grew out of it.

“Marinette Bourgeois…” Chloe began in that familiar lilt. “Who let you out of the house wearing that?”

“This dress is-” Marinette stopped, processed exactly what Chloe had said, then looked up at her. “What did you say?”

Chloe huffed. “Weren’t you listening? I asked you who-”

“No, the first part.” A slow, dangerous smirk spread over Marinette’s lips as she leaned closer. “My name.”

I want some Shadowhunter who just transferred from a different institute to be at Magnus' loft because idk he was asked to go to Magnus for a potion or something and for Alec to come home and that Shadowhunter is like "Mr. Lightwood? What are you doing here?" And Alec to be like "wym 'what I'm doing here?? I /live/ here??" That's all I want in life.

We’re going to pretend that this a)isn’t one month late, b) isn’t somehow something Jimon worked its way into, c) isn’t unbetae’d
For real, thank you so so much for the prompt, I hope you’re still around to see it ❤️

Jace slams a file on Alec’s desk, pulls the uncomfortable chair out from under said desk dragging it on the floor and sits down with, Alec is pretty sure, as little grace as he can master.

Alec raises his eyebrows before he lifts his gaze from the mess that is the deal he’s working on with the Faeries.

Jace is clearly fuming, arms crossed over his chest, he’s staring angrily at Alec’s desk, and Alec is kind of worried it’ll catch fire.

“I take it something’s bothering you,” he says, deadpan, and Jace’s stare is positively murderous when it focuses on Alec’s relaxed-only-because-he’s-so-goddamn-tired expression.

@carol-molliniere drew all of the Lodgers for The Glass Scientists and I was inspired to do the same with my Super Hero AU

You’d be surprised how hard it is to come up with new designs while keeping the important parts of a character intact so they’re recognizable. My hope is that you guys recognize who’s who, regardless of how their costume looks.

Do you think Mark's acting a bit weird lately? I mean. I think it's super weird that he hasn't been on all day today. Considering he hit 18 mill. I'm not saying he doesn't care. Just seems like something got in the way of that. Perhaps filming... He has been pretty absent lately... so i wonder...

he does seem a little distant, in my opinion at least, in terms of like social media and what not. i’m sure he and the rest of teamiplier are working hard on an upcoming project, which might be that big collab mark showed a little ‘behind the scenes’ of before. maybe??? i just hope he’s getting plenty of rest and drinking water in the meantime. 💙

So as someone who's been trying out various magical pursuits over the past few years, I've decided I'd really like to hone in on trad witchcraft. I've seen some trad witches post resources and references, which is great, but I'm stuck in suburbia with little money. Do you know of ways to make the most of that in traditional witchcraft? I know it's all about using your environment, but everything around me seems lackluster :/

Suburbia is usually riddled with parks. unless you’re in Florida I guess. Go into those parks and talk to whatever spirits remain there. I’m sure they’ll be happy to get some attention. Leave offerings in a cemetery and talk to the inhabitants. Fly. You can use a lot of the trees and weeds growing in sidewalks and backyards for magic. I’d reccomend working with Dandelion. Wild Lettuce is also a slight hallucinogen you can use to achieve spirit communication or flight. Just work with the local spirits is what I’d reccomend. Visit your local library too. Read up on folklore and history and who’s dead, etc…

I hate to ask, but school is kicking my butt and I'm really stressed out, do you have any headcanons with the batfamily being "smart"? Like, doing detective things or something? Please only respond if you want to/feel like it. I don't want to be a bother. Thank you.

Hmmm I’m not 100% sure what you’re asking for, but I’ll give it a shot?

  • So Damian didn’t know who his father was until pretty late in the game, BUT I think we can assume that he did hear Ra’s and Talia talk about his dad a few times when he was little. Thing is, they don’t generally use Bruce’s name. They call him “The Detective.”
  • That being the case, I always figured lil Damian ran around thinking “I too will be a detective” and playing at investigation, which would probably boil down to sneaking around in order to overhear as much as possible. For the record, I don’t think he ever dropped that habit.
  • I also think that lil Damian was obsessed with Sherlock Holmes, since Holmes is probably the most famous literary detective around. I happen to know that when Tim was fourteen, he was a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society (Detective Comics #618), so I figure they’ve got that bit in common. We are, however, talking about Tim and Damian, so when I say “something in common,” what I mean is “something to compete over.”
  • On top of the expected squabbling about the merits of different media adaptations, odds are they have contests where they both try to observe somebody and deduce as much information as possible. It’s not the kind of thing Bruce would discourage. They are supposed to be cultivating those skills, plus Bruce loves Holmes too. Another thing Bruce enjoys is showing up his children, so it works out well for him. He’s very, very good at that game.
  • So is Dick. Cass is a specific kind of good at it, because of the body language thing. They don’t make their guesses to their subject’s face, so Babs (also a talented player) fact-checks electronically as much as possible. It’s a decent way to pass time on slow patrols. They call it a training game.
  • Sister: You should meet my friend! She's a writer, too.
  • Me: Oh, cool! Yeah!
  • Sister: This is my friend--she's writing a novel! Friend, this is my sister--she writes fanfiction.
  • Me, who is also writing a novel, which my sister damn well knows: ...
  • Me: ...
  • Me: ...hi.

Something I’ve noticed about Virgil in the TaG series.  He feels comfortable to joke around with Scott in almost any situation, including missions.  He might mess with Gordon but he doesn’t really encourage him while they’re on a mission. Same with Alan, he kind of holds him at arms length.

Is he’s trying to be the reliable brother to them or does it just mean that his humor just doesn’t match up with the tinies?

Re: bunny huggers and "I love animals!" If you want to work w animals but you don't know how to properly express your love for them, try "I have a passion for animal welfare and husbandry, and I'm willing to work hard to see them be happy and healthy." I know sometimes it's difficult to express what you mean on applications, so emphasize your care for the animals welfare, not your uwu feelings about cute babby fuzzy exotic animals

Exactly, this is such a good way to put it!

It’s also worth nothing that if you’re using buzzwords like ‘husbandry’ and ‘welfare’, make sure you know what they mean in the context of the area you’re interviewing for (since they manifest differently in like, a vet setting vs a zoo vs a rehab center). If you’ve been following this blog you shouldn’t have any problem with that, I hope!

ok ok BUT i was thinking about pete at pride parades as spiderman and i can't work my way around it? if he nust says i'm lgbt it's fine, but if he says he's trans EVERYONE in his school is gonna suspect him bc there probably aren't a lot of trans kids. so bc he's not very subtle that would basically out him as spiderman. idk i'd rather have him "guarding the parade to make sure nothing goes wrong" but then he's also like i belong here or something yanno

true true i’ve thought about this too. lmao i can see peter really struggling with this, bc he knows it would be so positive for spider-man to acknowledge being lgbt+ but he also knows that it could threaten his secret identity which is already on thin ice (spider-man, known for being in new york, just happened to be in DC when the midtown students were in danger?? he’s cutting it close)

so he decided to deck his spidey suit out in lgbt+ merchandise that represents the entire community. yeah he may not be every gender and sexual orientation in the lgbt+ community, but this way he can show pride for being trans and bi, and he can show support for the others.

so that’s how he finds himself at pride, a rainbow cape, a trans pride colored hat, bi pride pins, pan pride t-shirt, ace pride skirt, genderfluid pride sunglasses, and much much much more. he took so many selfies with so many people, and he swears his face hurts from smiling so much. he takes a selfie with a lovely drag queen dressed to look like an ironette, they kissed his cheek for the photo and he felt so light and happy. he sent the selfie to tony, and tony just replied with: 😘

Photoshop’s Eyedropper Tool Tip

SO I just learned a neat little thing that BLEW MY MIND - basically Photoshop is the gift that keeps on giving!

According to this twitter thread (and I’ve tried it and it worked for me), you can use the eyedropper tool to pick a colour outside of Photoshop like, say, a reference you have in your browser!

To do this, simply select the eyedropper tool when you’re working, then click (and hold) and drag it outside of your Photoshop window to wherever you like and it’ll pick the colours it finds!

This saves you the trouble of having to copy a reference image from your browser into Photoshop so you can simply grab a colour - this way you just have to drag the eyedropper!

(Be warned that some people experienced lag and/or crashes when they did this. I’m also not sure if it works for Mac users.)

I have been wanting to invest in a cintiq 22HD tablet and want to get one for my birthday but they are very expensive (like $2000) and i'm not sure if its worth switching from my wacom. I have trouble with the disconnect between a normal tablet and hoped the cintiqu could fix it but wanted to know if you feel like it helped your art or if it was worth it?

I would say only get it if you draw on a daily basis, because otherwise it’s not a good investment. Getting a Cintiq does not improve or change the way you draw, it’s more of a practical thing for setting up a good work-space. I upgraded to it because I mainly work on a graphic novel, so I need to reference back to previous pages and have a lot of files open at once - which requires a lot of screen space.

Anyway, I personally never felt a huge disconnect while using a regular tablet, but it also depends on what type of things you draw. If it’s a lot of linework that requires precision, a tablet screen is definitely better, but if it’s lineless painting, there’s actually no difference between a tablet and a screen to me (and I prefer a regular tablet for that because it allows you to sit back and not hunch over the screen.)

If the disconnect really bothers you, maybe try looking into less expensive options? I used a tablet screen laptop for a very long time (probably like 8 years or something, and I went through 2 of them) before I upgraded to a Cintiq, and the only difference between them in my experience is the amount of screen space. This is the one I used - http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x230t/

It says sold out, but you can probably find it elsewhere, and it’s dirt-cheap compared to a Cintiq screen and is an actual computer lol. The worst thing about buying a Cintiq was making peace with the fact that I paid 3,000$ for a MONITOR LOL. It’s way too expensive.

I’m so uninspired I hate it

A little love for the signs (From a Libra sun, Leo moon)
  • Dear Aries: It doesn't matter how dark times are, you are there for me. And I know you will always support me. You can make me happy like no one else can. You can say something that isn't even funny and I have to laugh with you. I could talk all night with you. About anything. You are full of light, full of life. You deserve everything bright.
  • Dear Taurus: Even though I've never really been so close to you to say that, I want you to know that you're worth it. You are beautiful, your smile helps people not to give up. So don't give up on yourself. You're strong and I know you smile through the pain, but it's okay. We all go through that and I wanted to tell you that you're not alone.
  • Dear Gemini: You are funny, you are witty, you always know how to make me laugh. I am inspired by you. You are so sociable, yet you know how to be alone and overthink things. You can do decisions by yourself, you don't hesistate to make the right choice. I admire you for that. Also, your art is beautiful. You are art.
  • Dear Cancer: I know we haven't been best friends. I know we had fights and that you broke my trust too often. But I realized, you are only a human being, just as me. Everyone keeps making mistakes, but no one wants to admit that. I hope for you that you'll be happy in the future. I want you to concentrate more on yourself, not on others because you are you, and no one can be that for you.
  • Dear Leo: Whenever I talk to you, it feels like we understand each other without saying a word. You are passionate and you are optimistic. You are the person I look up to, you brighten everyone's day, yet no one knows if you're dying inside. You are beautiful and you know it. You taught me it's completely fine to love yourself. So do it.
  • Dear Virgo: You're so selfless. You always try to help me, doesn't matter if you understand me or not. I know that sometimes it's hard for you to show that you care about me, but I notice in this little things you do for me that you do care. And that's fine. You're human. It's okay to break down. It's okay to talk to someone. You will get through this all. I'm right here by your side.
  • Dear Libra: I feel like everyone of you is my sister or my brother. You can make me feel special without knowing it. When we're talking about god and the world, it's like I've known you all my life, even if it's just hours. I want you to look at the mirror and say "I'm proud". Be confident. Believe in youself. Only if you try that, no one will stop you from loving yourself and the world.
  • Dear Scorpio: I don't even know where to start. You changed my life. You taught me things in an emotional way I never thought I'd experience. With every wise word you said you took my breath away. It doesn't matter how much time will fly, I will always remember you. You are my first love and you make everything feel so real. Everytime you look at me, I feel special. You taught me how to love someone and I taught you how to love yourself. Be happy. No matter how we're gonna end, I want you to remember us. You deserve the entire universe.
  • Dear Sagittarius: You doubt yourself more than anyone else. You wear that beautiful smile everyday, but inside you don't even know who you are. I have so much fun with you everytime we do something together. Don't let that happiness die. People look up on you. And you have to do your own thing. Don't give a shit what others think. Find out what you need, what you want and what you love. Everything else will come by time.
  • Dear Capricorn: You are one of the stongest yet most broken person I know. Or should I say, pretend to know? You hide your emotions, afraid of being hurt or replaced. I tell you something: There are people who love you and care about you. There is hope. You can have whatever you want in life, if you're just willing to accept your feelings and yourself.
  • Dear Aquarius: Being around you is like jumping from one cloud to another. Everything feels easier. Even maths. Life is easier with you. The weight of all the bad things in life are gone. I don't know how you're able to make me feel like this, but I'm sure it makes you very special and I hope you never stop making people feel like this because it's one of the best feelings ever.
  • Dear Pisces: If I'm sad, I know I can always talk to you. You always have a solution to my problem. Even if it's just a sentence like "It's okay, we will find a way.", it works. It makes me feel better. You're the most selfless person I've ever met and you're always there for your loved ones. Just take care of yourself, too, because your life is as important as the lives of everyone else.
