i'm not a vegetarian or a vegan but

Newt makes a whole cooking show supposedly dedicated to Fantastic Meats and Where To Find Them where instead of actually talking about meat, he spreads his vegetarian propaganda

Are we gonna talk about how all the travelers are vegan ? Because that’s some details I loved about the show. It’s never part of informative dialogues but it’s quietly shown multiples times :
-MacLaren talking about cow milk in his coffee
- Farmer crying about discovering what bacon is
- Their big happy meal that Trev cooked where there’s only vegetables and fruits

So yeah. They chose to make the future timeline vegan, or at least vegetarian ❤

Why are you vegan?

The fact that I feel obligated to lie and say “because it’s healthier” other than my real answer “because I care about animals” shows how negative people can be to animal compassion.

No your cat cannot be fed a vegan diet.

This is a biological fact not an opinion. Not an agenda or bias. It is pure scientific fact. You cannot feed your carnivorous pets a vegetarian or vegan diet.  Especially cats. Cats are obligate carnivores which means that they live on a solely meat based diet that is biologically essential for their survival.

Not only does the meat contain enzymes, amino acids, nutrients and other essential minerals, cats can’t utilize plant-based proteins at all. Cats require high levels of amino acids like taurine and arginine that plants do not provide and require vitamin D (D3) that is only found in meat. So while eating a vegetarian / vegan based diet might “fill” their stomachs they cannot get any nutrients from it as they are unable to break down plant matter.

This is because of a number of reasons. Firstly plant matter if hard to digest and herbivores require special biological systems to be able to live on a plant-only diet. Such as an enzyme called cellulose that that breaks down the cell wall of plant matter and bacteria that live in their gut, that herbivores cannot do themselves. Cats instead have an enzyme called amylase that can be used to break down small amounts of plant matter. But it is only produced in small amounts and therefore cannot handle high levels of plant matter.

There is also the fact their digestive tracts are vastly different from that of herbivores.

As you can see, carnivores have a rather short digestive tract. This because the nutrients and energy in meat is easier to absorb then an animal eating a herbivorous diet.

Herbivores therefore have long digestive tracts in order to lengthen the time the plant matter is in their body and therefore have a chance to absorb more of the energy. In fact ruminant herbivores have a hour chamber stomach and ruminant (regurgitate) their food in order to better break down the plant matter and absorb more of the nutrients.

The dental structure of a carnivore such as a cat and a herbivore is also vastly different as they are adapted for their different diets. Cats have teeth (incisors and canine) that are used for tearing flesh and holding onto prey. They have only one set of molars as shown and three sets of pre-molars. These teeth are used for grinding / chewing. Compared to that of a herbivore, it’s hardly enough to break down and chew a plant based diet.

A herbivore’s dental structure (horse) contain of mostly molars rather then teeth used for tearing / holding onto prey. As shown below, a horse has many sets of large molars and a large mandible. That allows for long periods of chewing and grinding down on tough plant-matter / grains ect.

Your cat cannot live on a meatless diet  Any good vet will tell you this and if they don’t they are either not properly qualified or pushing an agenda. If you are uncomfortable with feeding meat to a cat or dog or any other carnivorous pet. Then don’t get that pet. Get an animal that lives on grains or plant matter because you should not own a cat if you’d rather put your own agenda / “morals” over that of an animals life and well being.

Let me Say This Again

I have taken nutrition studies and animal nutrition studies, dogs in specific. I’m not talking out of nothing. You CAN put a dog on a vegan diet. Sure it’s possible. But it is unhealthy. Dogs are omnivores, their bodies are built to decompose meat proteins into essential amino acids. Most plant proteins won’t give them ALL the amino acids they need. In fact the ONLY vegetarian food we sell at my store has the lowest protein possible. And you have to feed it in high amounts alongside supplements. To put a dog on a vegan diet is unfair to the animal itself. You can’t force your beliefs upon an animal that eats meat naturally. I’m a vegetarian and I don’t feed my dog only vegetarian food. I have NEVER seen a dog healthy on a vegan diet.

If you want to force your beliefs onto your pets, GET A HERBIVORE ANIMAL. A rabbit, an iguana, something that doesn’t need meat. You are making animals unhealthy by forcing your “animal rights” beliefs upon your dog.

@ people who are iron deficient

Turmeric is awesome for iron intake, one tablespoon has at least 15% of your daily iron. I easily passed my daily needed levels by adding 7 tablespoons into my tofu scramble (you don’t need that much but just showing how I don’t have to worry about it the rest of the day!)

Tofu is also really good, half a block of tofu will give you 25% of your daily iron and calcium.

A large flour tortilla has at least 15% of your daily iron (apparently it can be more than that )

So, if you were to make a serving of tofu scramble and roll it into a burrito, you can easily meet your daily iron intake and not worry about it for the rest of that day.

If you make a big serving of tofu scramble you can also save leftovers for another day for a really quick and nutritious meal.

I’m tired of people thanking me for not being the “preachy vegan”. Since when are vegans preaching to you about veganism? Like we just exist and that’s enough for self-proclaimed carnivores to assume we are preaching. Knock, knock, where did your compassion go? Knock, knock, are you feeling guilty ‘cause I choose to eat a plant-based diet and you don’t. Yes, I am unapologetically vegan. I will no longer apologize for making you feel uncomfortable at the dinner table.

Why is tumblr so reluctant to discuss animal rights?

Seriously? We’re well-read on subjects like feminism, racism, transphobia, etc. but as soon as someone mentions animal rights it’s all “HEY SPOT THE VEGAN HAHAHA!!”

Animals live through AWFUL conditions in slaughter factories and likewise, not only so that we can have meat, but milk and cheese and cream as well.

I’m not saying we should all stop eating meat or dairy products, nor am I saying ALL meat/dairy-factories are the source of all evil, but can we at least acknowledge the problem and discuss it?

Reblog if you are or know of a vegan, vegetarian, or pescetarian

I’m shocked at how few of these people I know. I haven’t even met that many on the Internet.

Of course, feel free to write in the description/tags on what led you to be one of these! :)

Also feel free to reblog if you aren’t one of these, but enjoy vegan, vegetarian, or pescetarian food.

  • What she says: I'm fine
  • What she means: if simba spent most of his childhood and part of his adulthood eating plants and insects with timone and pumba, then what happened when he went back to pride rock? Did he keep his altered diet? Lions are natural carnivores and simba was no longer living under timone and pumba's rules, so he should've been allowed to eat what he wanted. He should instinctively want to eat animals, but he was raised to eat bugs. Simba's strange diet might inspire the other lions to eat insects as well, and then the entire ecosystem would be thrown off. Oh my god.

look,, i mean,, all those vegetarians and vegans making a big deal about OHH UR KILLING LIFE!!! UR KILLING IT BY EATING IT!! >:O um honey,,, plants r alive too. plants are living things, animals are living things, last time i checked cheese is made with bacteria which is also living i mean

every things alive

theres no escape

have fun with ur plant murders

Reblog if you're vegetarian/vegan

So I’m genuinely curious if there’s many vegetarians on Tumblr (I know there are obviously!) because I don’t have many vegetarian friends in real life!

So it would be really cool if you’d reblog this if you’re vegetarian/vegan with your reasons in the tags!
