i'm just thinking about sochi and i had to do this!!

Yuuri didn’t actually mess up at the Sochi GPF theory

Okay so I was rewatching episode one when I noticed something from the news articles about the Free Skate failure:

The word “today” really did stick out at me here. As you know, both programmes would not be on the same day, so with the way this article is phrased, it sounds like he at least did okay during his Short. And then this comes directly afterwards:

I’m not sure about the original Japanese, but the use of “fell” here suggests a dramatic turn around. To fall, you must be at some height. And for them to make an article on it? No, Yuuri must have not been already in last place. We know Viktor must have been in first place, but Yuuri? I think he was fourth MINIMUM based on this. He even says in some internal monologue:

His ‘big day’? Why would it be a big day if he’d already done disastrously a day or two before in his Short? Surely, a ‘ big day’ would symbolise him possibly winning a medal?

If he was in last place already, he wouldn’t HAVE that kind of pressure. But all of these lines highly suggests to me that he at least had a shot at doing well during the GPF, maybe he was even close enough that he could have had a chance for a silver medal.

We find out during episode five that during the GPF, Yuuri can’t have scored above 94.36, as they announce it to be his personal best. Still, there’s no reason he couldn’t have scored around 90 ish, which when looking at the other scores that year, probably would have put him in a good position

I did the maths as yes, if you plug his Short score at around 90 it gives a realistic Free score considering he pretty much messed up all of the technical points.

Yuuri Katsuki was most likely in line for bronze or silver after his Short

What does this mean?

This little interaction of Viktor not recognising him as a skater is so much worse, as is Yuuri’s FS failure overall

tl;dr Yuuri actually did very well in his short last time

Edit: I’m kind of bored of getting the same response now so I’m just adding that I don’t really think Viktor actually didn’t know Yuuri as a skater. What I think is that Yuuri probably took the interaction to mean that, and he thought Viktor didn’t recognise him maybe.

anonymous asked:

do you read victuuri fanfics? i'm looking for new recs ^^"

I do ♡ I can rec you some, but they’re pretty popular, so a lot of people have already read them.

On My Love by RikoJasmine (Rating: Teen And Up Audiences, Status: Ongoing)

Time Travel AU where after an accident, Yuuri wakes up in Detroit before his first GPF.

For the second time, the Sochi Grand Prix Finals arrive, and with it a reborn Yuuri Katsuki. “Viktor,” Yuuri thinks over the pounding of his heart, the crowd going silent as the music begins. “I’ll show the world what you meant to me.”

I have never cried so much in my entire life.

Masquerade by Ashida (Rating: Explicit, Status: Ongoing)

Mafia/Gangsters AU

“Just say the word.” came the whisper as Victor stepped close, behind them Yuuri was aware of guns out and at the ready, of confused men and questioned loyalties, here Victor was offering, and Yuuri was too selfish to say no.

I don’t think anything I say will do this fic justice.. It’s so beautifully written and so heart-breaking, it’s my favourite Viktor x Yuuri story. You can also find short side stories here.

Until My Feet Bleed and My Heart Aches by Reiya (Rating: Explicit, Status: Complete holy fuck)

Rivals AU where everything changes the day Yuuri goes to see young Viktor perform and win his gold medal in the Junior Grand Prix.

“I’ll show him.” Yuuri vowed, hands still clenched tight around the pillow. “I don’t want to be like him anymore. I want to be better. I’ll beat him at his own game and he won’t be laughing at me anymore.”

a.k.a. the cause of my death and part one of the Rivals Series (the first chapter of the second part, titled Of Bright Stars and Burning Hearts, will be will be posted on the 26th of March and I will f perish help me). Also my favourite fic.

centripetal force by braveten (Rating: Explicit, Status: Complete)

College/University/Roommates AU where Viktor Nikiforov, popular frat boy and Linguistics major, ends up rooming with Yuuri Katsuki, a shy Physics major (who happens to be the same person that Viktor hit on his skateboard).

“Oh,” the boy says from the bed.

He looks surprised.

(Obviously he looks surprised.)

Victor can’t stop staring. “Hi.” Then he remembers that Bike Boy probably hates him. No, he remembers that there’s almost a zero chance that Bike Boy doesn’t hate him. “Sorry about this. I heard you were separated from the guy who was supposed to be your roommate, and so was I. So we can switch rooms, get it the way it’s supposed to be. They’re just a floor down from us.””

This is like, adorable and so funny, I read it in one go!

Stargazer by Fahye (Rating: Teen And Up Audiences, Status: Complete)

Space/Royalty AU where Yuuri has been admiring the ‘sport of Kings’ from afar until His Royal Highness and reigning ballistic champion Viktor Nikiforov appears out of nowhere and together they reach for stars.

“Victor wore pink, that year, and his costume was cobwebbed with gold thread and amethysts. The jewels glittered and winked at the cameras as though even the lights were in love with him, were bending their heads to chase him as he moved, faster and brighter and grander and more breathtaking than anyone else had ever been.

That’s the image in Yuuri’s mind as he finishes his routine. There are purple sparkles and a gorgeous, carefree smile on display on the inside of his eyelids.

So when he opens them to see the reigning men’s ballistic champion standing barely a yard away on the other side of the barrier, feet on the floor of the arena, close enough to the sealed-shut hatch in the transparent sphere that he could reach out and touch it–””

I read this a couple of days ago and I’m still speechless. There are wonderful illustrations in it, the story is incredible and the imagery really beautiful!

premier dans mon coeur by aphhun (Rating: Teen And Up Audiences, Status: Ongoing)

Canon Divergence/Danseur AU where Yuuri is the Principal Dancer of The Bolshoi and moves to St. Petersburg for a few months to help Lilia Baranovskaya choreograph a routine for Yuri Plisetsky’s Senior Debut in the Grand Prix Final.

“I’m Yuuri Katsuki. Wonderful to meet you finally, Mr. Feltsman.”

Viktor fell on his ass, elbows slipping out from under him from how he had been lounging against the boards. He went down, not hard, but embarrassingly enough as he stared up at the attractive danseur from his spot on the ice. Damn.

Holy shit. Breathing - was he breathing? Did he still have to?

The kind of fluff you never knew you needed!

My fun fact is: by stillmadaboutpetra (Raring: General Audiences, Status: Complete)

After retiring, Yuuri goes back to the University of Michigan for a Master’s in education. What he fails to mention to his friends is that he’s a retired competitive figure skater.. and that he’s an Olympic medalist.. and that he’s pretty famous.. and that he’s married.  (based on this prompt

“But a big, cheek-busting grin bounces onto Yuuri’s face and he turns to them. “Would you like autographs?”

Uh huh huh what now?

A muffled scream swells in one girls throat, and the other bursts out “I knew it!” and the other one, closest, holds up her phone, eyes big. “We thought we saw you at the exhibition the other week.””

This is so funny, I’ve read it like, three times in a row and I still go back to read it some days.

worth mentioning & my Marked for Later list:

Welp that’s all, I still have a lot of fic rec lists I have to check out as well (saved in my drafts) but I hope you enjoy these because I really did!

i see a lot of viktor pretending to be an amateur skater to get instructor yuuri’s attention, which is all well and good, but have you considered the opposite? alright so get this: viktor is doing some publicity event where he gives a masterclass in figure skating, and yuuri registers for it (all it says is you need a certain basic skill level, i.e. how good is your balance?) and afterwards he’s like oh god what have i done and freaks out and nearly doesn’t go. but phichit is like, “dude, come on, chase that tail,” so they schlep out together and probably have to travel cross-country or even across the border into canada to get to this damn thing, and by the time they arrive yuuri is like, so done with the whole idea already, because he’s an internationally acclaimed figure skater and he’s going to a basic class in figure skating and what if viktor recognises him and—oh, wait, that’s stupid, there’s absolutely no way viktor would know what he looks like, at least not up close, if at all. okay. that was a stupid anxiety. yuuri is fine. he’s fine. so he and phichit rock up to this event and it’s a pretty large class (they had to allow for as many of viktor’s legion of fans as they could) and yuuri thinks, it’ll be okay, viktor won’t even look in my direction, it’ll be—

and then the class kicks off and viktor skates up to yuuri with this look of poorly-disguised adoration on his face and says, “wow, you’re skating really well!” and because all they’ve done is one loop of the rink yuuri is like, “oh no, oh no no no, i can’t skate at all,” and as if to prove his point he falls flat on his face. he rolls over, and the first thing he sees his viktor holding out a hand. yuuri nearly freezes up colder than the ice, but then a voice at the back of his mind that sounds suspiciously like phichit tells him, you know what they say about the size of a man’s hands… ! so, god help him, yuuri takes viktor’s hand and lets viktor help him up. (viktor has very nice hands.) “an absolute beginner, huh?” viktor says. “we can work with that.” and yuuri doesn’t have the heart (nor the desire, really) to correct him, so he lets his anxiety takes over and skates so badly that celestino would surely drop him on the spot.

at the end of the session, viktor gushes to yuuri about how far he’s come, how he’s convinced yuuri could learn a jump or two if he put his mind to it, and meanwhile yuuri is still trying to make the fundamental leap of understanding that his idol is talking to him (“flirting,” phichit corrects. “he’s definitely flirting.”) and it seems like he’s really enjoying their conversation, even though it’s just about mundane things like yuuri’s boring degree and boring part-time job and viktor’s flashy international stardom. afterwards, viktor offers to buy yuuri dinner, and yuuri has to concede that maybe he is flirting, but really that’s only because yuuri has been coming on pretty strong too, and he dreads what’ll happen when viktor realises he’s actually a loser with clinical anxiety. but, what the hell, you only live your dreams once, or something, so yuuri lets viktor wine and dine him and it gets less scary as the evening goes on. just as they’re about to part, viktor says, “i hope this isn’t too forward, but could i get your number?” yuuri considers that for a while. he considers it so hard he forgets to breathe, and passes out right there on the pavement. the next thing he knows he’s waking up in hospital, with a phone number written no fewer than six times (“just in case one of them rubbed off!” viktor will tell him later) all down his arms. he presumes the number is viktor’s, but he doesn’t want to take that chance. yuuri doesn’t call.

(five months later, he’s about to step on the ice at the grand prix final in sochi, when he passes viktor, and viktor gives him a curious look. yuuri stops dead in his tracks and nearly goes out cold again, but then viktor’s expression changes into a sly grin, and he says, “yuuri as in yuuri katsuki, huh? you said you were a beginner!”)

I have so much love for bysotid! And you! Thank you for brightening my week! Heh, I'm oddly surprised reading fics without Nakagawa now. :)) Do you have any fanfic recommendations yoi, hp, or otherwise?

Thank you so much!

I’ve been out of HP fandom for so long that my recs would all be like 10 years old. Ha!  So I’ll stick to YOI.

That said, there are a ton of fics that I like.  So when I went to compile this list, I made myself promise to do ONE THING and that was not to put something that had been recced a zillion times.  Because I’m sure you already know about those.  You can’t go five seconds on tumblr without hearing about them.  So yeah, you won’t find the old reliables as I’ll call them on this list. :D

(Seriously everyone reccing the same five fics over and over has always been a pet peeve of mine.  Yeah, I know, everyone loves them, which means almost everyone has read them, so how are people supposed to find NEW things to read? *sigh*)

Sassy’s YOI Rec List of Underappreciated Fics (In her Not So Humble Opinion)

So obviously I have a bit of a thing for Soulmate AUs. (I wrote one after all)  They can be incredibly cute.  So I’ll start with a couple of those:

Drunk on Love by  kiaronna:  So this is actually a collection of Soulmate AUs.  The author tries to go with different takes on them that you haven’t really seen before.  My favourites are probably the first one (once you meet your soulmate the further you get, the more drunk you become), the second (Petnames written on skin. Yuuri has tons and Viktor only two) and the eighth one (Substitutions… Which is hard to explain in a sentence)

Eros in Progress by trixiechick:  This one is less about the soulmate angle for me and more about the worldbuilding.  I love a good fantasy, but I am crap at worldbuilding, so I am awed.  Basically think of the opening of the anime as magic.  Sorcerers create colors with their performances and bring happiness, this ability is highly sought after.  Yuuri, of course, thinks he sucks at it while Viktor is amazing…

You can have everything… by @shysweetthing:  “ AU. Before the Grand Prix Final starts in Sochi, Yuuri finds Victor’s phone. He returns it–and hijinks and heavy flirtation ensue.”  Obviously written before Kubo said that Viktor knew who Yuuri was, but I really enjoyed it. :)

Goldskate88 has logged in by  katsudonfemmefatale:  The formatting might not be stellar, there are parts that have just a tiny bit “wall of text” feeling to them, but I personally think it’s worth it. “ Phichit encourages Yuuri to join an online figure skating forum, but what he doesn’t expect is for a certain user to change his life forever. Every time he sees the username GoldSkate88, Katsu92’s stomach can’t help but do a flip, but how will this affect his upcoming Grand Prix competition?”  Explicit (for message sex/skype sex)  Lots of plot, but porn too.

Might as well keep the porn together

silver by @pageleaf: Post GPF in Barcelona.  Viktor won’t kiss silver.  Yuuri uses that.  I like this because it actually delves into their dynamic a little with Yuuri as the dom.  And it keeps building the tension as well.  Explicit.

From the smut to the funny

Who is Coach Yuuri? by glitteryimagay:  Four teen skaters have been selected to be coached at Viktor Nikiforov’s rink, but Viktor has other obligations and can’t personally coach them, so it falls to Coach Yuuri.  And they have no idea who he is and just never think to google it. XD  A little farfetched, but I love it.  It’s funny. The four OC characters are pretty decently built up too.

Life in a Beautiful Light by Budinca:  “ Yuuri’s moving in was a complicated process.”  Yuuri moves in with Viktor in Saint Petersburg.  This one is a little hard to explain.  It’s a very introspective piece.  Soft and Lovely.

Repeat After Me by queenieofaces:  “ Victor learns language through mimicry, hears phrases and repeats them back until the inflection becomes second nature. Yuuri seems to communicate best through euphemism, through metaphor, through talking around the subject rather than approaching it head on, and so Victor tries his best to mimic him, to take his words and echo them back.”  It speaks to me mostly because I live in a country where I don’t speak the language yet (seriously trying to find time to take language classes while taking care of a toddler is hard).

There’s another fic that is similar and quickly making the everyone recs list and while I love it, I won’t list it because of reasons.

I was looking for, but I can’t find it in my history… I really should get better about using bookmarks… but I think this is enough to start with.  I’ll dig up more if people actually like this.  (And I still won’t rec those fics. :P)

kitsunebi-uk  asked:

I've been so impressed with the range of thoughts and feelings you explore with Yuuri in 'The Undiscovered Country', as well as how they are implied through Victor. As a beginning fanfic writer, I'm wondering how you plan it before you write it up? I know it's common to have a plot outline, but is there such a thing as an outline or map of the way detailed conversations or trains of thought will go too? I'd like to be able to put more detail in my own and would love some advice.

I do not plan anything before I write. If I published things as I was still drafting them, I would end up hitting a standstill and then I’d have to go back and change things.

You can kind of look back through things I’ve said about this fic and figure that out. So, for instance, I think this is the first time I mentioned it: https://shysweetthing.tumblr.com/post/158333762845/things-i-am-doing

Note this particular gem: “Probably will end up something under 20K.” HA HA HA I guess I must have been referring to the individual chapters? That definitely worked out. Note that this was posted March 12th, at which point I’d been working on the fic for over a month.

Rest of this below the cut b/c nobody wants a lengthy description of process.

might i ask why exactly you started losing interest in yuzu before? ik you still like him but im just curious,,, and where do your negative ish feelings come from?

a combination of not liking his programs/skating circa 2012-2014, and the fandom explosion which was…exhausting, though i was already mostly disconnected from it by the time sochi came around. i already talked about this at length before so i don’t really feel like rehashing it

tldr he was like my teenage platonic skating crush and then i broke up with him and now we’ve grown up and i like him just fine, i’m just not as invested in him as before. it’s normal for people’s feelings about a skater to change over time. i have no negative feelings left about him.

anonymous asked:

what are your favorite Top 5 or 10 cutest Tess/Scott moments?

It’s so hard to pinpoint just 5 or just 10 because literally everything they do is just filled with so much love and tenderness and respect so augh here’s 10 off of the top of my head, in no particular order:

  1. their favourite part of every day is skating with each other.
  2. because they’re always a ‘we’ and tessa doesn’t even have to think twice about it.
  3. just every single time that scott cradles tessa’s head and kisses her forehead/top of head.
  4. the distance of two chairs in the k&c were just too unbearable for them so they just had to bring themselves closer to each other (featuring an adorably embarrassed scott moir)
  5. giggly tessa (I swear it’s some inside joke between them involving the word ‘strong’) with scott trying to step in and be serious for her in the interview… and failing because he’s so happy that she’s so happy.
  6. LIP. BRUSHES.
  7. Scott wrapping Tessa’s arms around him during the Sochi Gala practice.
  8. Placing hands over each other’s hearts before skating their Olympic FD in Sochi.
  9. thank you so much.
  10. literally whenever Scott can step in for Tessa when she blanks on an interview question about herself (like her fav kind of music or tv show) and vice versa.

LITERALLY SO MANY MORE BUT HERE ARE THE FIRST 10 THAT POPPED INTO MY MIND

Three Programs to get to know Virtue and Moir

Or Emma told me to talk about Tessa and Scott and I couldn’t even figure out where to begin so this will have to do.

Part One: A Brief Introduction

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir started skating together when he was nine and she was seven. They were pretty adorable back then. And guess what, they’re still so cute. They’re ice dancers. They’re from Canada. They’re coached by the same people who coach Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the USA. No, there’s no conflict. That’s because they all appreciate each other as skaters and as people. And they’re all about 2000% better humans then the rest of us.

Last Olympics, in Vancouver, Canada, Tessa and Scott won the gold medal. They became the youngest champions ever, the only champions from North America (so far), and the whole stadium practically pooped themselves because they were so good. This year, in Sochi, many people think that Meryl Davis and Charlie White will take the gold. Tessa has had some leg issues that required surgery over the past few years and Meryl and Charlie have been steadily improving. They’ve managed to iron out many of their former flaws. Hopefully, it will be a good fight and you know they’ll respect each other no matter what happens. This is, at this point, unofficially Tessa and Scott’s last competitive year, which makes me really sad, but they’ve been skating together for almost 20 years, so I guess it also makes sense.

Part Two: Adorable and Perfect

So my first recommendation is this year’s short dance. The ice dancing short dance, for those who don’t know, is comprised of two set patterns that everyone has to include, as well as some other required elements and a particular rhythm. (That’s why everyone is doing those hops, it’s part of the Finnstep pattern.) Some of the things I love about Tessa and Scott that I think are really clear in this dance are the way they make the same shape with their bodies. Tessa and Scott are shaped differently, they’re different people, and yet they have this amazing way of making the same shape and expression with their body. It really brings them together as a team. You can also see their smooth, deep edges in this dance. They move quickly across the ice and well. It looks easy, but it’s very difficult. They’re also adorable and immediately get into the “character” of the dance and stay there until the last note. Every little movement goes back to that character and it’s something I think they are the absolute best at.

Part Three: Committing to the Character

Something else that I think that Tessa and Scott have pretty much always done amazingly is become the characters that they are portraying. Though they have many gorgeous, classic free dances, I wanted to pick this one in particular. This is their free dance from last year, Carmen. The free dance is different than the short, in that it is longer and that it provides greater freedom for the skaters, they get to chose what to skate and what music, as long as they adhere to a list of requirements (x number of spins, lifts, and so on).

This FD was criticized as being too sexual and aggressive, but that’s kind of the thing that I love about it. If you know Carmen, you know that’s the story. Carmen is this fiery gypsy who causes the downfall of this solider and they’re this terrible, passionate love story full of jealousy and rage and heat. And that’s exactly what they skate. Tessa is Carmen in this skate. They’re not afraid to go for an unusual lift if it fits the story. Scott had said they really wanted to push ice dancing in some way, to change it, and Carmen was that for them. It was them showing another way that ice dancing could be.

Part Four: Breathtaking Beauty

Sometimes I think it’s easy to talk about the little things that each pair does so well and watch for their beautiful spin or their incredible lift or this moment that totally fits the music of whatever they’re skating, too. However, one of the things that I love about Tessa and Scott is that they’re just simply beautiful to watch. This is their gala program this year, set to Rhianna’s Stay. There are no requirements or rules for a gala program, it’s just a celebration of the skaters who did well at that event. And, in this freedom, Tessa and Scott have created this beautiful piece that’s just so gorgeous and emotional to watch that it’s almost easy to forget they’re skating at all. You just get caught up in the beauty of two humans, moving together, and telling a story.

Part Five: What’s Not to Love?

I could probably keep this going for a long time, but the moral of the story is that these two are precious, adorable, and perfect and everyone should love them like I do.

GO VIRTUE AND MOIR!

How do you think the Kane/Toews primer characterization is wrong? I'm curious as to your thoughts on Kane/Toews tbh

(I’m going through asks slooooooowly! Sorry, just really not much free time this week. T_T)

Sorry for the belated response - I wanted to do this when I wasn’t completely wiped from something or other, and then I realized that that probably isn’t going to happen anytime soon, so uh, here you go. :(

Note that the primer was written in July 2010, so it’s based on fairly old material. Not the fault of the author, but a fact. Also, the primer itself qualifies/disclaims some of the following views - it mentions that they’re BOTH extremely devoted to hockey, for instance, and that Tazer is not actually a complete hockeybot who doesn’t know how to party - but it feels like there were people who didn’t read those parts very carefully.

As a hockey fandom n00b, I personally found it a fun, enjoyable read that helped to hook me onto the pairing, so, y’know, clearly it was doing something right.

That said, these are my issues with the Kane & Toews & Kane/Toews characterization in the primer:

Okay so bear with me darling, I'm going to rant just a bit. After hearing Scott's comments in Sochi about the coaching situation, Marina says "I'm fine. It's OK," she said. "I made them first, and now they are second. It's OK, really." Umm Marina thinks she "made" them first? Sure, Marina was the vehicle that guided Tessa and Scott to gold in 2010, but she didn't MAKE them win. The fact that Marina knows how much control she has over T/S and that she can "make" them 2nd this time just irks me

Of course, sweetheart—you don’t even have to say that before you rant; I’m always happy to listen!

And JFC I CAN’T AGREE WITH YOU MORE.

Followers who’ve been with me for awhile have been subject to this rant over and over again, but I never get tired of (pardon my french) bitching about it because it makes me SO mad. I’ve been becoming more and more irked with Marina and her blatant favouritism over time, but this comment was what really nailed in my hate for her.

She. Made. It. Seem. Like. It. Was. Tessa. And. Scott’s. “FAULT”. That. They. Did. Not. Win. In. Sochi.

And that it was ALL HER DOING when they won gold in Vancouver.

I’m sorry, but fucking EXCUSE YOU, Marina?

Of course she’s had a hand in their victories; with her coaching and choreography, Tessa and Scott were able to succeed throughout the years. But COACHING AND CHOREOGRAPHY ARE USELESS ON ICE DANCE PAIRS WITH NO TALENT; Tessa and Scott breathe life into Marina’s programsthey’re the ones to make her choreography shine and take viewers’ breaths away. Had it been any other pair dancing Tessa and Scott’s programs, they would MOST CERTAINLY NOT have the same effect; the effect wouldn’t even come close. It’s Tessa and Scott’s athleticism, artistry, dedication, passion, and chemistry that build these programs into what we see out there on the ice.

And what gets me even more pissed off is the fact that SHE DIDN’T EVEN FUCKING PUT IN HER TIME INTO TESSA AND SCOTT THIS OLYMPIC SEASON. She did not split her time evenly, and I believe Tessa and Scott ONE HUNDRED PERCENT when they admitted—SO RESPECTFULLY, might I add—that they felt like Marina wasn’t there along with them.

But the fact of the matter is? The judges had to give them silver—EVEN WITHOUT THE SUPPORT AND HELP OF THEIR COACH, MARINA ZOUEVA—because they were that undeniable. Do I think that the judges would have given them bronze, or better yet, kept them from the podium, if they were any less remarkable and perfect? Absolutely. But they had to give Tessa and Scott silver or else all hell would have broken loose. Tessa and Scott earned that silver BY THEMSELVES, WITHOUT Marina—and skated TWO GOLD MEDAL WORTHY PERFORMANCES WITHOUT HER FAIR ATTENTION ON THEM and landed the silver.

What does that tell you, Marina?

It tells you that Tessa and Scott don’t need you anymore. Yes, your choreography is incredible and yes, you were a great coach to them in the past. But now? You’ve let them down, and fact of the matter is that Tessa and Scott will shine with any coach and choreographer who gives them their one hundred percent, as in the end, THEY are the ones to build the programs into the breathtaking performances that we see on the ice.

Marina once referred to Tessa and Scott as her “rare gems”—her “Canadian diamonds”.

Well? Sucks to suck, Marina, because you’re Marina & No Diamonds now.

See you never.

anonymous asked:

Whenever you start doing ficlets this weekend, would you do an Olympics AU?

Rose Tyler was a surprise participant in the Olympics, going from about sixth nationally to second in a single day; overwhelmed and extremely humbled she didn’t stop crying for a single day, but when she arrived in Sochi and walked into the stadium, she was once again wondering just what she was doing there- after all, she was nineteen, who dropped out of school to focus on her skating career even if it was struggle. Most of the people talked to had gone to university or was still in it, and she felt out-of-place.

Just as she was about to bolt, a man with spiky brown hair that she vaguely remembered from the hockey team threw his arm around her shoulder. “You doing alright?” He asked as he used his phone to record the stadium.

She took a deep breathe. “Yeah. I’m just…”

He grinned at her. “John Noble. Hockey center.”

“Rose Tyler. Figure skating.”

“Nice to meet you, Rose!” He said cheerfully. “Smile for the camera!”

She laughed, and beamed into the phone as he turned it to record them. “Hello, everyone!” she said, waving enthusiastically. “Hope we do you proud!”

“And even if we don’t, hope we beat the French!” John smirked and winked, and Rose nearly doubled over from laughter.

“Does this mean we’re friends now?” Rose whispered. “Since I’m in your video and all.”

He smirked at her. “Only if you win the gold.”

She giggled and swatted his arm.

When the opening ceremonies closed, John invited her to join some of his teammates for drinks. She agreed, and was soon immersed in a discussion over Star Trek versus Star Wars with John and three other men as their girlfriends laughed over their arguments.

Since they were in different events, Rose didn’t see much of John; his practice time was always after hers, though when she was on the ice she didn’t think of him. Much. If she ever admitted that her wobbles upon landing were due to the feel of his hand in hers, she would never hear the end of it from her coach or her mum.

She still took time to go to his first match and he to hers, and they took the time to meet up during their free time. They also attended the downhill skiing event, cuddled up together under a large blanket, tea warming their hands as they cheered for their teammates and others they had met during their time there.

It was after Rose’s short program, when she barely made it into the free skating portion, that he kissed her. Rose had been shaken after her near-miss and needed a distraction, so they took a tour of the city. They were overlooking the river at the top of some building when he had pressed his lips to hers, and after a moments hesitation she was kissing him back.

“Wow,” she said when they finally broke apart to breathe.

“Yeah,” he admitted. They stared at each other. “Does this mean we’re dating now?” He asked.
