i'm just starting to watch s6 and this needs to happen

I like your thoughts on the musical episode, but I'm afraid they're going to use the "7 tasks" s/l on Emma and H00k? If S6 is ending with Emma saying Yes to his proposal, idk what hope is left for SQ? I mean C$ is soo wrong, but there's never a consequence? IDK what to think anymore. How can they go from a C$ wedding to SQ?

With recent news about “A lot of Captain Swan in 6b”, “Captain Swan fans will be happy re: 6b”, “Don’t watch if you don’t like CS (something to that effect)” CS basically stealing SMF/SQ moments and scenes, the rumored engagement, and knowing also this might be the last season or at least the current narrative will wrap up, Do you still believe SQ could be endgame ? I just don’t see how they could break up CS after “everything” and get SQ in such few eps :(

Hey Anons!

  • The 7 steps aren’t speculation about the future, it’s an analysis of what’s already happened. We’re already on step 6 - the song titles they’ve been using clearly apply to Emma and Regina - and moving to the last step. They don’t apply to Emma and Hook at all, so I don’t think your fear is based on the content of the show, just on a general - and in that sense justified - fear because (queer) women often aren’t treated fairly on television.
  • As mentioned before here and here, Hook is Emma’s Animus. He is the expression of Emma’s own masculinity and her experiences with men in the past. While everyone’s speculating about Regina and the Queen merging, we’re missing what’s happening right under our noses. Emma and Hook are merging. The living together is a metaphor for Emma starting to re-integrate him. As Zeus said, he belongs with her, not romantically, but because he literally is a part of her. She has placed her own strength outside of herself and inside of him - as many women tend to do because society tells us to play nice - and now she has to ‘take her strength, her instincts, her armour back’. You can see it in their wardrobe looking similar and by Emma’s changing attitude. She has more and more moments where she acts like the Emma we met in season one.
  • There have been at least two scenes where their marriage has been foreshadowed by means of a wedding dress showing up between them. A marriage is also called a merger. It would symbolize the moment when Emma takes her power back completely, but also - and this is very relevant in terms of the untold stories - accepts herself. Hook’s shame about his past belongs to Emma as well. There are things she doesn’t want to face which we will learn about through Hook. The proposal is a proposal of Self acceptance. Once they are married - or almost-married, depending on what they do - their relationship can end. She doesn’t need him anymore, because she has restored the balance between the masculine and the feminine within. She can’t embrace her sexuality before this step is complete.
  • The spoiler we have is that Hook asks Charming for permission. While this is infuriatingly archaic on face value, it makes sense in that Charming is a positive Animus figure whereas Hook is a negative Animus figure. Their bromance and his permission tie in with the concept of Emma re-integrating these parts of herself.
  • It makes sense that PR teases the wedding, because they don’t want to dictate how the audience reads the symbolism of their show. They are limited to talking about the face-value version of what is going on, so you have to see PR in that light - with the occasional hint about bigger concepts hidden in their PR subtext. It’s what they do best. Remember that there are no official marriage spoilers, so that is them teasing that story arc.
  • The only people who would feel Emma and Regina’s relationship happening suddenly are people who don’t pay attention, think television won’t go there or are very stuck in and blinded by heteronormativity. Their relationship has been developing since the first season. The tropes are there. Love stories between women are often sexualized. A story that is primarily romantic and where intimacy comes first isn’t recognized as such, simply because audiences - gay or straight - aren’t often invited to recognize queer women’s romantic lives. What better way to break the pattern than with a story that does go there after 6 seasons of growing closer? It will just continue to progress as it has over the course of the series. It has never stopped happening, it’s simply gradual and the physicality will be the last step - just like in the story of the Skeleton woman.
  • They have put in all the clues that Regina is bi/pan and Emma is a lesbian. Nothing about this is unrealistic or out of the blue. This might be the fairy tale version, but so many queer women get married and then do end up coming out. The setup is there. Calling  CS ending and SQ happening unlikely or unrealistic is… tragically funny, considering we have no issue accepting dragons or fairies, but this experience that is a reality for so many would be out of the realm of possibility? I’m assuming something significant will happen for them at the end of 6B, but the further development would really be for season 7, so that’s another season. Again, nothing terribly unlikely about that.

Sansa is HAPPY for Jon being acclaimed king and TEASES him about it and tries to get him to take the nice bedroom again. And there is INAPPROPRIATE CHEMISTRY like they have had all season!

okay let’s see if the alcohol amount in my body lets me go at least until ‘this isn’t full gen’

Jon’s still not sure it’s really happening.

If he woke up a moment from now still at the Wall and found out he dreamed all of this, he wouldn’t be surprised at all. Except that -

Except that he’s not, if he were dreaming he still wouldn’t be feeling wounds hurting from that battle, and he wouldn’t be feeling - well, it’s not that he’s unhappy about it, but he can only think, what would Robb say, and -

“He’d have been glad of it,” Sansa says all of a sudden, showing up at his side.

He can’t hide that he’s startled by it - the feast hasn’t been over long and he had thought no one had noticed him sneaking out before all left the room, but then again Sansa would have. She was sitting next to him, wasn’t she.

“What -”

“You were speaking out loud.”

Hello! I'm kind of new Richonne trash and I have only seen season 6 of TWD so far. Now, I have no energy to backtrack all the previous seasons but I was wondering if you could tell me which episodes before S6 that are Richonne highlight episodes? I only need the gems.

Hello @ohgressfuriosa and welcome to the trash can! It’s pretty great when newcomers discover this blessed ship.

I really think you should start from the very beginning. Not for only Richonne but for all the other great aspects of this show.

Nonetheless, here is a breakdown of the episodes I think you should watch that are Richonne heavy/highlighted or that include big moments/subtle moments (I won’t include any S6 episodes since you have seen them already):

3x07 When The Dead Coming Knocking (Very end of 3x06 Hounded as well) - First Meeting + tension + overall dis trustfulness between them

3x09 The Suicide King - Tension between them/Rick continues to look at Michonne sexily

3x12 Clear - Rick and Michonne’s (+Carl) first run together (Alot of people really started to ship them together in this episode except me, I started to ship them at their first meeting but I digress)

3x16 Welcome To The Tombs - Rick really turns on his up/down thang he does + flirting between them + Michonne becoming ‘one of them’

4x01 30 Days Without An Accident - Michonne gets Rick a ‘gift’ + overall cute Rick/Michonne/Carl scene

4x08 Too Far Gone - Michonne captured/Michonne rescues Rick from the Governor

4x09 After - Rick, Michonne & Carl centric episode literally/Michonne finds Rick and Carl and is very emotional about it (feels)

4x11 Claimed - Another episode that’s heavy Rick/Michonne/Carl. More sexy looks between Rick and Michonne/
Michonne/Carl supply run/overall bonding between the three

4x15 Us - Very cute Rick/Michonne/Carl scene close to the beginning of the episode/Rick having his best smile of the series so far looking at Michonne and Carl interacting

4x16 A - Rick/Michonne/Carl bonding even more/bad guys finding them and they’re pushed to their limits to save themselves/Rick seeing Michonne/Carl hugging + being in sort of awe of it/them basically being together throughout the entire episode.

5x01 No Sanctuary - This episode overall is probably my favorite episode ever in The Walking Dead. And not even for the Richonne moments. Just the overall tone of the episode was pure epicness. With regards to Richonne, there are a few scenes including Rick and Michonne sharing a ‘look’ in the train car, them fighting alongside each other + Grimes Family 2.0 reunion.

5x02 Strangers - Rick and Michonne go on a run together (others are there as well) + more bonding after the run with Rick asking Michonne about her sword (kinda like a ‘getting to know you’ convo (lol)), them basically just opening up to each other. Them sitting next to each other in the church + admiring Judy

5x03 Four Walls And A Roof - Not many Richonne moments but a great episode + they are both a part of the group that handles the enemies

5x07 Crossed - Rick and Michonne practically acting like a married couple making decisions + more looks + Rick entrusting Michonne to protect his kids while the other group goes to save Beth.

5x09 What Happened And What’s Going On - Rick and Michonne are in the group going to Noah’s residence + sitting next to each other in the car + slight and subtle arm graze in one scene + arm touch in another + Michonne convincing Rick to go to Washington + whipped!Rick makes an appearance + Rick saving Michonne from a walker.

5x11 The Distance - Wow, what can I say. This episode is basically a Richonne episode with extras in the background. Michonne making plans for him and the group (basically whipped!Rick makes an appearance again) + Rick and Michonne talk outside by and on the car with Rick seeking her counsel (I’m emotional about this just typing it up) (2 separate times) + Rick and Michonne in the car together (with Glenn and Aaron) on the way to Alexandria + Grimes Family 2.0 riding together in the car to Alexandria.

5x12 Remember - Michonne seeing Rick’s face shaved for the first time + light flirting + both can’t sleep and are awake in the middle of the night, light shoulder touch.

5x13 Forget - Rick and Michonne’s first day as constables + sexily looks between them at the beginning of the episode + rest is crap…for reasons.

5x15 Try - Michonne is forced to knock some good sense into Rick (who was literally going off the deep end) at the very end of the episode.

5x16 Conquer - Michonne watches Rick all night after his tirade + they have a good talk + Rick finally tells Michonne the truth about the guns + Rick basically saying Michonne could literally stop him if she asked + Rick continues to look Michonne up and down all sexily (I will never get over it) + Michonne basically telling him she will always be with him, will be a ride a die for him + hand grazing + Rick looking like a puppy + Michonne standing up for Rick at the Exile Meeting.

That about sums it up. I tried to incorporate all their big moments and even the subtle ones. This is really just off the top of my head, so I hope I didn’t miss anything. Anyway, I hope you enjoy their journey and the progression through the seasons!

I'm glad you also framed the cake as the call back to the mark's hunger, cause that's also what my mind immediately jumped to, instead of the bi!dean metaphor that is often used (I support that view too) but that's not what I'm here to ask about. We saw very little activity out of the mark this ep, though that may have to do w/ Jenny Klein's often flawed writing, even when Dean sorta killed Cole, do you have any thoughts on that? The seemingly unaffected Dean weeks after killing Cain himself?

Hey sweetie!

I am glad you like the reading. I hadn’t come across the “pie as a metaphor for Dean being bi” yet, but I didn’t realy have time to look on my dash yet. Plus: I like to collect my thoughts and type them out without getting influenced by other interpretations. :) Also: I won’t manage to rewatch the episode before tomorrow night, so the following is just based on the spotty memory of having watched the episode this morning before heading to work.

But to your question. I agree that Dean seemed entirely too calm given how on edge and amped up he was after he killed Abaddon. If we take that as a comparison, I think it is valid to assume that Dean would be even more hopped up now given he killed the Father of Murder (unless Cain didn’t die - though I am not really thinking Cain is alive still) and one can only assume that it will be much more catastrophic and extreme than it was with Abaddon, who was “just” a Knight of Hell.

I think they deliberately did not further go into what Dean did after he left that kitchen - just thinking back on it sends shivers down my spine - and don’t give us any clues as to if he sleeps for example (the beginning suggest neither Sam nor Dean sleep). And I could imagine that to continue. I know I talked about a sceanrio I could imagine happening at some point towards the end of the season the other day, but I cannot find the post right now, but basically I thought that we will get glimpses here and there of something “other” shining through in Dean, but he remains in control and seemingly put together up until a certain point, when in some sort of flashback it will be revealed what Dean did all the times we didn’t see him and Cas and Sam weren’t observing and it will be really devastating.

In short, I could imagine them “playing down” and making Dean appear to be more in tune and control to have the audience believe he is getting better only to strike in the most unexpected momnt so it would be more shocking.

That being said: I like to think, that Dean does somewhat grows more in tune with himself and is starting to work through balance, but I think it might only need a tiny push to send him right over the edge.

There was a lot in this episode that made it seems as if Dean is on a good path, there were just as many however that suggested that Dean still thinks he “is past saving”. These conflicting aspects mostly played out when comparing Dean’s conversations with Sam and with Cole.

On an ending note. I think the MoC was actually front and center throughout the entire episode - only not with the show framing Dean shaking or adding the “evil little steam whistle” or the “heartbeat” - but mostly in parallels.

The Monsters of the Week were the perfect mirror for what is going on wth Dean. We had the Khan worms - something evil taking over good people and turning them into blood thirsty (perfect parallel to the MoC which also is always thirsty and hungry for blood and killing) monsters which alone provided the perfect parallel to Dean (and to Sam’s demon blood addiction as well btw) current predicament. The two widows also reminded me a lot of Mary Winchester, who experienced what the war had done to John as well while the other reminded me of Lisa, who took Dean in after Sam jumped into the pit. That time during S6 was often referred to by the writers as Dean going through something similar as “The Hurt Locker”, which was also about a soldier dealing with PTSD and the aftermath of having been too war. Dean shared similar expereinces with his time and hell and purgatory and of course, he has been called “daddy’s little soldier” a lot of times to make the parallel a possibility.

All that being said and to com back to the hunger vs. thirst thing. I wrote a more elaborate piece on Dean’s hunger here, if you are interested. :) I think it’s interesting they chose the Khan worms to dry out their victims and ONCE AGAIN BASICALLY KILLING FROM THE INSIDE OUT which has been a MAJOR theme ever since S9 and the only way to be freed from them was to dry out - which to me is another parallel to Sam’s detox in S4.

Sorry this got long and rambly towards the end. Thank you so much for your question. I hope I somehow managed to type up something coherent that answered your question. I might have gotten blown off track a bit. *bites lip*
