i'm just going to assume not

we also need to talk about what magnus’ spellbook implies which is that he’s singlehandedly created hundreds if not thousands of spells and that these are spells unique to him. meaning he’s the only one who can both cast and undo them, except for what he may have chosen to share to a select few. and that these are likely the spells warding the Institute, but not only that, the Clave is probably relying on many other spells he’s created.

basically what i’m saying is magnus bane has the greatest insurance policy ever because if he goes, all of his spells go with him.

“So I had my avatar marry Izana because apparently you can do that” resulted in a child that looks a lot like his father but got none of that laid-back personality and a whole lot of pointless energy (which he uses, of course, for evil)

Okay, but imagine a medieval adventure fantasy where asexuals sell their services to parties who have to travel past sirens/incubi/succubi in order to fulfill their quests.

Imagine young witches and warlocks going through a final wizardry test where they have to square off against every magical creature they’ve ever learned about, and everyone is really confused as to how that one team just strolled past the sirens/incubi/succubi, and also as to why afterwards they high-fived, said “Aced it!” and then laughed for ten minutes straight.

Imagine a villain dousing a hero with a love potion and then unshackling her, expecting mindless devotion, only to have her then stab him and say “I’m aromantic, actually.”

Imagine an incubus carefully choosing a target and ending up on her couch with a tub of ice cream as she assures him that he is really good at his job and he can’t help it that he happened to pick an ace target.

Imagine an ace sailor who has to tie up his companions in the hold and sail the ship by himself whenever they encounter mermaids, and since it’s just him it’s really slow going, and he spends the entire time griping about allosexuals to the mermaids, who in turn gripe about how sick they are of having to target sailors before the sailors target them.

Imagine a love god trying to set up a pair of aro ace soulmates and putting them in increasingly romantic and/or risque situations, only to pull his hair out in frustration as they ignore or fix every situation and just become better and better friends.

Just like, fantasy aces and aros, y’all.

Hey Alan! I just saw a post about different types of allistics on my dash... one of them was "The 'Ally'™". I'm allistic and I want to know how I can be a good ally, so I thought I'd ask about certain things mentioned in the post so i can avoid doing them! What are person first language and functioning labels and what can I do as an allistic to be an actual ally (not an “Ally"™)? Thanks so much!

okay, first of all, I’m going to assume that you meant [this post]. If not, sorry. Second, I’m not going to get this perfect. I’m viewing this as a bit of a first draft, which (note to self) I will edit at some point.

definitions: person-first language is “person with autism” as opposed to “autistic person”. Please use “autistic person”. I dealt with functioning labels later in this disorganized hell-post.

So here’s my stab at allistic ally 101

1) You follow the same rules as if you were an ally for any other group: [Here’s a pretty good ally 101 article], but it’s not the end-all-be-all. Keep listening to autistic voices, and if we contradict the rules hold our voices higher.

Also, above all, rule #1 of allyship is don’t be a shithead–come to conversations with the intention to listen and learn first and treat us like human beings (this is particularly critical with disability rights)

2) Our voices are the important ones: this is important with being an ally to any group, but autistic people often struggle to communicate or express ourselves. Be patient. Ask people how they’d like to communicate and be prepared to be a bit flexible.

Some autistic people use AAC (Alternative or Assistive Communication), and their voices matter just as much as verbal people’s. You don’t have to learn ASL or anything, but don’t assume that because someone’s not communicating verbally they’re less intelligent or competent. And, even if someone can’t communicate using language (or communicate at all) don’t assume that they don’t have thoughts, feelings, and needs.

3) Nothing about us without us: knowing an autistic person doesn’t make you an expert on autism. BEING an autistic person makes you an expert on autism. If you see anything claiming to help autistic people that doesn’t prominently feature Actual Autistic People, don’t support it (unless Actual Autistic People are telling you to support it, see #2)

This goes double for any charitable organization focused on autism which leads me into point number 4 (also from here on out things are a bit smaller-scope, that doesn’t make them less important):

4) Autism Speaks is trash: [and] [here] [are] [some] [sources

If you want to support charities try ASAN and The Autism Women’s Network

5) Please don’t try to “cure” us: I’m dealing with some internalized ableism with this one, so let me turn you over to  Anya Ustaszewski who in [this article] writes:

My autism is part of who I am. It is not something “extra” that can be taken away from me to suit the agenda of an intolerant society. My abilities, challenges and perception of the world all go hand in hand. If I were to be “cured” of my autism, the person that I am would cease to exist.

so yeah cure = bad, acceptance and accommodation = good

6) Celebrate the things that make autistics unique: lately, tumblr has gotten a lot more stim-positive, but stimming isn’t solely a pretty, paint-mixing or slime video (in fact, stimboards are rarely tagged and can overstimulate the SHIT out of me).

A lot of time, stimming is viewed as ugly, distracting, loud, disgusting, or socially unacceptable. Support your local autistics, don’t expect people to stop stimming and try not to stare or comment (many autistic people have to work very hard to reclaim stimming after childhoods of expecting to suppress it entirely).

Also, try your best to support different cognitive styles and processing issues. Try to keep your websites accessible, provide image transcripts, try not to make posts that are entirely text in images (like screenshots of twitter posts), and help to subtitle videos if you can. <- these things also help d/Deaf people and anyone who accesses the internet via a screenreader

7) steer clear of stereotypes: I’m not rain man or that dude on the big bang theory or your cousin’s dentist’s sister’s younger brother’s son. The ‘idiot savant’ stereotype is almost never true and puts unreasonable expectations on autistic people. Also, not all of us are good at math or science, have incredible memories, etc. Fitting or not fitting stereotypes don’t change the fact that every autistic person is human and deserves rights and respect.

8) functioning labels are fake: never listen to anyone who describes autism as “high” or “low functioning”. Every autistic person has struggles, and putting labels on functioning basically sorts people into “can be ignored” and “subhuman”. [here’s about a million posts about why they suck because if I put it all here this post would be five times as long]

9) ABA is trash: this is trigger territory for a huge number of autistic people, so [here] and I’m not going to say anything else just take my word on this one

10) If it has puzzle pieces on it, run: if you’re looking to see if a group is okay, look for the rainbow infinity sign. The puzzle piece is a huge red flag. Please don’t support anything with puzzle pieces on it. Please. I’m begging you.

Okay that was WAAY longer than I meant it to get, sorry. Also, I’ve missed a bunch of things, but I’ve been working on this for an hour and I don’t have the energy to add more. I’ll throw this in #actuallyautistic and hopefully someone else can add anything important I missed.

Hi I'm sorry if this sounds rude but you mentioned your friends are giving up fic writing? And that you came close to.I notice writers get much fewer rebblogs than artists but I didn't know it's that bad. Who are you talking about and do you guys talk about this, like is there a chatroom for writers?

Hi anon! This isn’t rude at all, don’t worry! This is going to be a bit of a long answer, so bear with me :’)

I don’t know if I can mention names here, I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, so I can’t really give you more details than I already have: I am friends with this person and they probably won’t be writing fanfics anymore.
I can tell you though that I’ve also spent most of the last couple of weeks wondering if there was still a point in posting my writing at all.

The thing is, writers barely get any feedback. Especially ones that aren’t insanely popular. We pour so much of ourselves into our writing, so it’s incredibly discouraging to barely get any comments, kudos, likes or reblogs.

In my personal experience, tumblr is an awful place for writers. I’ve got a decent-sized following on ao3 I think (though I don’t have much to compare to) and even there, with more than 100 people subscribed to me, I only tend to get around… 5 or 6 comments max per fic that are actually reviews (as in, comments with more content than “please update soon” or “this was nice”) - which is already more than I know many of my writer friends get.
On tumblr, I’m lucky if two or three people reblog my work, and that’s exactly the problem: Who’s going to see it if no one reblogs it? Likes are fine and of course I appreciate those, too, but in the bigger picture they’re meaningless.
Once a fic is done, it’s done. It’s out there then, and I can’t keep reblogging my own posts again and again in the hopes that someone will pay attention to them. I get one shot, maybe two if I reblog my fic again for people in other timezones, but that’s pretty much it. I’m not surprised that it’s gotten so frustrating that it makes people want to quit.

…as for your other question - I don’t know if there’s any larger chatroom or space for writers. I know some people have group chats, but it’s mostly a private thing, as far as I know? I’m really not a big name in this fandom so there might be a lot of stuff going on that I don’t know about.

As for me - I just message people a lot, with the tumblr feature, or on skype or snapchat if I know them better. I’m open to any and all conversations (most of mine with other writers started by me yelling at them about how much I love their work ^^), so if you want to talk to me please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. That’s what they’re for, after all? My ask’s always open, and I don’t mind private messages either.

In any case - there’s quite a few people in my immediate vicinity that I’ve talked to and I consider friends - many of them are writers, some are artists, some do both, some do neither. I talk about this problem (of wanting to write, but barely receiving any feedback, of feeling like we’re wasting our time) to pretty much anyone who will listen, but it’s frustrating because I don’t have the influence to change anything. Of course I’ll try to keep my fellow writers motivated and try to change their minds about giving up, but there’s only so much I can do, and in the end it’s their decision. Most writers I’ve talked to really enjoy writing fanfics, and it takes quite a bit of disappointment to get you to the point where you want to just… stop. So… yes, it’s a big problem.

I’m going to wrap this up now, but… again, I cannot emphasize enough how important comments are to writers. I’ve talked to some people who’ve said they’re not sure if their comments will even make a difference, because they feel they haven’t got anything interesting to say - picture it this way. As a writer, I’m standing on a stage and presenting a thing, and in response, about twenty people give me polite nods (kudos, likes) and four actually start clapping. But there’s like two hundred people (hits) standing in this room, and I kind of feel stupid now.
All comments matter. At this point, they might save you your writers. Because with less and less feedback, there’s less and less incentive to actually post things.

I can’t say much for other fandoms because it’s been a while since I’ve written substantially for anything but Haikyuu, which is still a relatively active fandom? But I get the feeling that’s starting to wear off, too.

Enthusiasm shifts, and I get that. But if you still enjoy an author’s work, please, please, by all means leave them a comment. Otherwise it might be the last work you read from them.

The bottom Viktor thing. I just want to let you know that I'm not a fan of bottom Viktor, I like to see him being manly, but to think again, being manly doesn't mean you can't go bottom for someone. I think to go bottom for someone means you care of the other person and not only care about yourself. And to think that Viktor would let Yuuri tops him, this just kills me.

I think that assuming that topping is ‘manly’ or ‘dominant’ and bottoming is the opposite is a very heteronormative idea that doesn’t have a place in a healthy queer couple like Viktor and Yuuri. While it’s true that in some queer couples they like to exclusively be one way, a lot of others switch and it says nothing about the power dynamics or who is ‘substituting for the woman’ or any of the other ridiculous things you sometimes see in fandom. As you say, being manly is absolutely not the same thing as topping but topping doesn’t necessarily mean you’re being selfish either. Viktor and Yuuri have a very healthy relationship in canon and for me that would translate into discussing switching or changing things up occasionally to figure out what they both liked and finding out what they both are comfortable with and enjoy, whatever that may be, rather than sticking to the very rigid and heteronormative roles fandoms seem to love to assign queer couples

Shit Slytherins Say: #45

Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I actually played Undertale the last time. But I remember something about Toriel in the True Pacifist path. I think she scolded Asgore for choosing to kill the humans instead of asking one of them to go through the barrier & to return with others so they could simply borrow the necessary souls. I assumed it meant there is a non-lethal way to take a soul out of a human body, at least temporarily. Just like the monster souls were taken by Flowey.

That’s not quite true! Nothing Toriel says implies that they could simply borrow souls from the humans.

TORIEL:
Do not “Tori” me, Dreemurr!
You pathetic whelp.
If you really wanted to free our kind…
You could have gone through the barrier after you got ONE SOUL…
…taken six SOULs from the humans, then come back and freed everyone peacefully.
But instead, you made everyone live in despair…
Because you would rather wait here, meekly hoping another human never comes.

First, Toriel tells Asgore that he should have passed through the barrier after getting one soul – not for a human to pass through. After all, “It takes at least a human soul… and a monster soul” to pass through the barrier.

Second, Toriel never says to borrow the human souls; she says “taken.” Now, there is something very odd about her ending that same sentence with “and freed everyone peacefully.” That seems like wishful thinking on her part, since it’s doubtful that there would have been a lasting peace if Asgore had taken the souls from the humans. Perhaps she means that Asgore didn’t need to declare war on the humans. After all, his declaration was to kill all humans who fell down here and then destroy humanity once they are free. That is far from peaceful.

ASGORE:
In a fit of anger, I declared war.
I said that I would destroy any human that came here.
I would use their souls to become godlike…
…and free us from this terrible prison.
Then, I would destroy humanity…
And let monsters rule the surface, in peace.

In any case, Toriel’s words are not enough evidence that humans could simply let monsters borrow their souls.

  • Seven: Heyyy, if it isn't Yoosung, old buddy, old pal, hahaaa, why don't you just let me off with a warning?
  • Yoosung: Seven. You were going like, 25km/h over the speed limit- why are you getting out of the car?
  • Seven: Assuming the position.
  • Yoosung: I-I don't need to pat you down, hyung.
  • Seven: [poses provocatively against his car]
  • Seven: Pat THIS down.

  • Jesus: I am shocked that you would ask such atrocious things.
  • Jesus: I could never. He is one of my best friends.
  • Jesus: Like how could you even think such things?
  • Jesus: I mean yeah, he's really cute and he brings out the best in me but how dare you accuse me of having incredibly strong feelings for Daryl which I obviously don't have.
  • Jesus: Yes, I can open up to him and he doesn't judge me which is a relief but HOW dare you ask me such a ridiculous thing.
  • Jesus: He does make my days brighter just by looking at me but I am appalled that you assume such things.
  • Jesus: I'm going to go talk to Daryl about this accusation. *storms off*

You snaked your hair around the curling iron once more and looked over to see Damon laying on your bed clutching your pillow on his chest. “What are you getting all dolled up for?” He said while eyeballing you in the mirror.

“Does there have to be a reason, Damon?”  You said as you finished curling your hair. He raised his eyebrow and looked you up and down.

“And you’re in a dress. There has to be some kind of party going on.” You looked at Damon and groaned. Damon quickly took up the role of your best friend the moment you moved to Mystic Falls. At first, you were not so sure if his friendship was reliable, then you questioned if he had a crush on you, then you just realised that he just wanted someone to talk to that wasn’t his brother, he just wanted someone to understand him and you were willing to be that person for him.

“There is no big occasion Damon,” You said as you grabbed your phone off the charger. “maybe you should just go home and drink some bourbon.”

Damon scoffed and rolled his eyes. “that is a tempting offer, but I would much rather sit here and pry into your little mind.” He grinned and changed his position on the bed. You wanted badly to just throw something at him, or yell at him for being stupid, but you knew better than to start a fight with him.

“Damon, what I do on my Saturday nights is my business.” You plopped yourself on the bed and grabbed Damon’s hand. “I’m not doing anything dangerous I promise.” His form softened a bit with your touch, but you could tell he still hadn’t given up on finding out your plans.

“Fine don't tell me, but I'm just going to assume you're going to a strip club or something.” You groaned and pushed his cold body down onto the bed.

“I’m not going to a….” You stopped when you felt the slight brush of a cold hand go across your arm. Damon had grabbed your phone and was going through it. “Damon! Give that back!” You clawed at him and tried everything to get your phone out of his hands, but you couldn’t.

“Oh look, you have a message from the little Psyco witch boy.” He suddenly got stiff and his face became rigid. Kai must have said something about the date, otherwise, Damon would have never known a thing.

“Damon, look I..” He cut you off once more.

“Kai parker? Out of all the Psychopaths in the world. you choose the one that I know, you choose the one that is trying to kill our friends.” He was mad now and you could clearly see it.

“Damon calm down. He is different with me.” You realised how stupid you sounded, but Kai really was good to you. He was calm, charming, and caring. You really liked him.

“What the hell Y/N, do you hear yourself right now.” He yelled. “He could hurt you in an instant, he is crazy and will do whatever he wants no matter how brutal it is. “

“Sound like someone I know.” You said as you folded your arms across your chest.

A low growl escaped Damon’s lips. “I am nothing like him.” He said as he slowly pushed you up against a wall. His arms were by your head and his eyes were glaring into yours. “You can’t go out with him tonight.” He whispered. “I won’t let you.”

“You can’t stop me, Damon.” You whispered in his ear. You shoved him away and to your surprise, he moved.

“Fine, go, but I will be within shouting distance the whole time. And If you even sound uncomfortable for 2 seconds I will rip his head off.” You put your hands on your hips and just looked at him.

“What are you like my protector now? last I checked Damon I can take care of myself.”  His form softened because he knew you were right. “I’m going on a date with Kai Parker, Damon. I’m telling you now, I know what he can do and I’m telling you he is different and he would never hurt me.” Damon quickly got annoyed and you could tell. “Now can I have my Phone back?”

A/N: Sorry this took so long, I feel like this isn’t my best work so I apologize , but I do hope it doesn’t stink too bad. :)
