i'm gonna take a few pictures ;)

“Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow, dishonor on your whole family!”

I’M ALIIIIIIVEEEE! (Actually this is the third project I’ve finished since the Pokemon stitch, but I can’t show those because they’re birthday presents. So you’ll have to wait til December, sorry)

Mulan is my FAVORITE Disney movie!! I love it, really, and I can never find anything related to it. So I was super excited when I saw FrigidStitch had a pattern available. I bought it the same time I bought Trinity’s Pokemon pattern.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the colors used for the two Mulan characters so I changed them. In the original pattern, Girl!Mulan was wearing the outfit she wore at the very beginning of the movie while Ping!Mulan’s colors were slightly off (they’re still slightly off but shh we’re gonna roll with it). I wanted Mulan in her matchmaker outfit because 1. She was wearing it when she sang this song and 2. She’s not comfortable in both this outfit and as soldier Ping, so I wanted to “reflect” that (ba-dum-tish, I’ll see myself out).

This was done on 18 count aida because I love me some 18 count mmm yeah. And I don’t want to talk about how much I had to rip out… Also-also, for my log, this was literally finished today, so, yay! Productivity!

Phantom Thieves and Instagram

Akira had the most fun in Tokyo. Before arriving to the city he didn’t upload much to his instagram. Now he uploads quite frequently because he’s honestly gonna miss this place when he leaves. There’s pictures of group shots with his friends, different places he’s been to, and random knickknacks which interest him.

(Secretly wants to create an instagram for Morgana pictures because people love cats. Will include cute napping cat pictures.)

Ryuji doesn’t post much, since he doesn’t want to be bothered by updating his instagram constantly. On the rare occasions that he does, it’s mostly pictures of something random, (for example, his shoes or the sky) with a caption like “Just went for a run!”

Ann’s posts consist of OOTD posts, selfies (by herself or with friends), and cute desserts. Recently, her posts have consisted of Makoto and Haru since they find themselves hanging out a lot more often. Because of her modeling career, she has quite a few followers.

Yusuke has an instagram dedicated to his art. Mostly consists of sketches, work-in-progresses, and posts of Yusuke showcasing some of his favorite art supplies. He will also posts updates of current exhibitions his artwork is showcased at.

Makoto treats her instagram almost like a blog. She rarely takes pictures of her face; her posts are mostly pictures of her notes, pencils/pens, and coffee. (You know those studygrams? Yeah, that’s Makoto). On occasion that when she does hang out with someone, she will post something different. For instance a photo of the location she was at.

Futaba’s consist of memes and other internet culture related things. She only posts content she creates herself - usually memes.

Haru takes pictures of a lot of cute things! Teacups, her garden, and cute shoes are just a few examples. Sometimes she will include facts about gardening or her process of developing her little garden.

Finished gravity rush 2, and…………

Honestly? Honestly. I think I might just count this game, and the first one, as one of my fav video games, like, ever.

… in fact. I’ve never had a singular favorite video game, just having certain video game series be in my favs, but.

This game is such a work of art, in total. The graphics, the music, the characters, the emotions, the GAMEPLAY, the story, it’s all so good. The flying feels so satisfying to play, and I love simply wandering around the complex cities and watching all the people, and possibly causing havoc just for the heck of it.

The photograph system in the second game honestly makes me love it even more. You can capture any moment, anytime, even when you’re in the middle of a fight, or a thousand yards in the air, just pull that sucker out, it’s your memory forever.

And the backstory of it, the stuff you only find out towards the very end…. it’s rather vague, purposefully vague, but very interesting, all in all. And that whole final boss sequence, that was something else, holy shit. The feeling of hopelessness, but still fighting your damnedest because like hell youre gonna let all your friends die. And then through everyone’s support of you, you do it. You save everyone.

And then that end stuff, with raven, checking up on how everyone was doing, all of that. I really enjoyed that, too.

And just. Idk, the entire thing was such a good experience, and I think. Honestly. If there was to be a game in my #1 favorite spot, it’d be this one. Gravity rush 2 is such a work of art, all in all, I think it’s the only thing that could really be there.

I was innocently taking screenshots in P4DAN when this happened

Get a room you guys (literally)

And It doesn’t help that in the next pic Yu was like

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

First pass at Breq and Seivarden! Had originally wanted to give Seivarden long hair, like really nice locs, to go for an aristocratic look. But a friend pointed out she hasn’t been great at taking care of herself up to this point. (I’m only a few chapters in to Ancillary Sword) I really like the idea of her with long hair though …

Breq’s head should be shaved, and I’ll fix it with coloring/lining. However, I love picturing her with an undercut, so top’s gonna be growing in faster. Hopefully she looks small and angry enough without a height comparison.

Important Blog PSA!

Hey everyone!

On Friday (July 21) I will be going on vacation with my family. We’re going to take a two day road trip to Turkey and then we’re gonna stay there for three weeks.

What does this mean for this blog?

I will NOT have internet access at LEAST until Monday or Tuesday next week (Maybe a few days longer. Depends on when I can get a new cellphone contract for my stay there)

So from Friday to (at least) Tuesday this blog will be on hiatus (unless there’s wifi somewhere).

I do not have anything queued for those 5 days so you probably won’t hear much/anything from me.

After those five days this blog will be on semi-hiatus until I’m back in Germany. I’ll try to queue some posts and be as active as I can but I’m not making any promises!

I hope you guys understand❤️

And pssst… You can check out my Masterlist here while I’m gone and maybe even leave some feedback?

I’m in a plane above the clouds right now and I’m watching the first signs of the sun rise. I can see where the sky blends in a perfect gradient - from the dark navy night sky, still sprinkled with a few stars, into a soft light blue that’s just barely touching the shades of red and orange that are beginning to appear. I’d take a picture of it if I could, but there’s no way the camera on my phone can immortalize how beautiful this view is. My goodness, I swear it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. But I’d still be lying if I said it was more beautiful than than her smile or her sleeping face. I’m searching the colors in the sky and I can’t find the color of her eyes - her beautiful green eyes that make my stomach drop whenever she steals a look in my direction. And the clouds look soft in their blanket below me, but my god, nothing could be as soft as her skin, or her hair, or her lips. I can see the brightness of the sun peaking over the horizon, and I feel good. I feel warm. How could I not? My girl is more beautiful than the sun.

i wasn’t on for a long while b/c i was in japan!!! osaka, kyoto, nara, and tokyo!!!! i just got back a few hours ago, it was amazing + beautiful. i wasn’t there long enough to get more than a taste, but i got tons of cool pictures and met sooo many kind people on the trip; climbed mt inari with a german girl, had lunch with an australian couple, went around heian shrine w/ an iraqi british guy, ramen with a philipino dude in akihabara.

i learned a ton about japanese history  and visited a LOT of UNESCO world heritage sites. i also bought the plane ticket a week beforehand and planned it out entirely by myself, went by myself save for stints with other travelers + one half day tour in kyoto. all in all, 10/10 experience :^)

Hey Sheila! I recently started cosplaying so I'm still trying to get used to getting my picture taken. I have never modeled before and being in front of the camera feels... awkward and unnatural? I only look good from very certain angles and it's hard to adjust myself into the right angle when the camera is always in a different position. Do you have any suggestions for feeling more comfortable and coming up with poses? Also, general tips on facial expressions?

Pracctticeeeeee!!!! Practice.

Everything just takes practice. Seeing yourself on camera is gonna feel and look really STUPID for the first few times. Then you start looking at it more clinically. “That angle should have been higher, etc etc”

My major advice first:
Spend an hour in front of the mirror, or take a fuck ton of selfies. Experiment. YOU WILL NEVER LOOK GOOD FROM EVERY ANGLE. At least not to you. Even Beyonce probably has a specific angle of her face she prefers. Learn which ones you like and dont— so that way you can position yourself correctly when someone asks for a pictures. It’s your job to know your face better than anyone, so spend some qaulity time in front of the mirror smiling, laughing, looking angry, looking sad, and turn your face in those expressions in every directions. Do you like your profile? Is you nose too big when you tilt your head up? Forehead too big to look downward?

Talk to your photographer.
Just because they raise the camera doesn’t mean they know best. If they are shooting you from a bad light or angle, let them know. “I’m gonna turn this way so it looks better.” They will follow your lead 99% of the time. They just want a good photo.

Lightlightlightlight. When the camera goes up, you are now a FLOWER. Direct your face to the strongest light source. Hotel overhead lights, the sun— angle your face at that sucker. It always improves the casted shadows of your face and makes you look more prominent. This also helps you elongate your neck which is very important. It helps you avoid looking short, squatty, or double chinned.

Photography isn’t just about taking a picture — it’s like a stage. You need to ACT as much as you need to pose. Over exaggerating is your friend. Especially since photos are flat and not dimensional.

Pose ideas:
Collect 3-4 poses from your character. Literally copy their promotional images, their standing idles, their cutscene movements. Practice it like choreography. Anything you see your character do is fodder for poses.

Relax your face:
In between photos, puff out your cheeks, snarl your face, scretch your mouth wide liek a dog — basically, loosen your muscles. We are so used to stiffening up and smiling for a camera that its hard to break that habit.  A trick is: Inhale or exhale sharply, forming the word: “YOU”.  Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but: “YOU”  Your facial structure will come alive, your cheekbones and mouth will look more prominent, and the look will be overall more engaging. Wether your smiling or not, this will help you look waayyy natural on camera.

Somewhere Now | Jared & Thomas

After a quick shower, Thomas suited up as if it was something for business, getting his robot gear on. Mainly cause he was going out in public and didn’t always want pictures of what lies under the mask around. Zipping up his black leather jacket, pulling on his signature gloves and the French male headed out of his hotel with his phone in hand.

Still getting used to Oakland as he’d normally go to LA. While on his way to the Oakland Zoo, he did stop by a graffiti wall and take his first twitter picture, posting that with the caption of the graffiti art. As soon as he made it to the zoo, he spotted the slight taller brown haired male at the entrance through his visor. Shaking off a few nerves, Thomas walked up to Jared, “I’ll unmask after this. Just got all dressed up in case fans are around. This is better then a scarf over my mouth and shades on.”

  • Calum: ok the guys have been taking the spotlight for the last few days... gotta do something about it
  • Calum: *sits outside on the sun and strips down to his boxers*
  • Calum: ok I'm gonna pretend to talk on the phone, here take a pic of me *hands over the phone*
  • Calum: no wait actually let me just put my hand in my pants and grab my dick and look all casual.... oh now take the picture
  • Calum: let them burn

I now have enough money not only to buy a laptop, but a warranty as well. A goddamned WARRANTY so if something happens I’m not screwed.

You have no fucking idea how happy and relieved I am.

You are the fucking best.

I literally was not expecting more than maybe a little help so I wouldn’t have to save up for as long, and you lot literally replaced my dying laptop and got me one with an actual warranty holy shit.

I have been worrying and stressing everytime something else goes wrong with my cheapo unwarrantied physically-coming-apart computer that I rely on for literally everything. And now, suddenly, in a matter of days, you all have erased all that worry and stress and replaced it with gratitude.

Thank you. Thank you so much. It takes a few days to move stuff from my paypal to my bank so I can order on Amazon, but I should have it sometime next week. I will post pictures when it comes so you can see what your kindness hath wrought!!!

Okay, so I'm an artist, and, good news- I'm gonna do my first commission! But I don't know any proper price to charge, or if they'll love the picture- I know I'm probably overthinking, but I'm scared! This is my first commission! What if I fail!?

No, no! Don’t be scared. This is a great thing! Congratulations!

Believe me, people who commission others online tend to have done it before. There’s a high likelihood this isn’t your client’s first rodeo, so take cues from them if you are able.

Pricing has always been a hard thing to determine, but that’s because it’s entirely subjective. I always tell people that for their first few commission intakes, they must undercharge, so that they can build up a portfolio of sorts — something to point to, to say, “Look! Look! I finish commissions dependably and my clients are happy with the end product!”

That way, when you charge a little more later on, people will be less wary of you, and more willing to pay your increased rates, because you’ve already proven you can do the job.

So for a character sketch, I would charge between $5 and $15 (USD). Not too much more for colour. You’ll be cheating yourself in a way, yes, but it’s better to get two or three commissions done first and only then pour over the price you’d rather charge.

As for whether your client will be satisfied, leave that in their hands. Update them at every stage of the commission (rough sketch, tie-down, clean-up, outline, flat colours, shading, etc) and don’t continue to the next stage until you obtain their approval.

And when it comes to professionalism, just be friendly and respectful in general. A respectful exchange is always professional. My rule of thumb is to be a little more formal than my client is being. This, again, has to do with taking cues from the client, and respecting their preferred method of communication. However, never use foul language or make off-colour jokes, even if it appears you and your client are getting along really well. Leave the fun until you’re finished with the commission. You can be pals later.

Also be sure to do your best to set your client’s mind at ease. There is always a risk when commissioning someone, because you’re paying for a product which does not exist yet. Assure your client you will do your very best to capture their vision, and then do your very best. Explain to them the logical steps you have taken in interpreting their character/work. They might disagree, but they will have a more solid understanding of where you’re coming from, and will therefore be able to more effectively correct you if you’ve gone astray.

Lastly, RELAX. You’ll see, 99% of clients are absolute sweethearts. I’ve maybe had one or two nasty clients in the five years I’ve been freelancing. Rest of the time, I’ve only encountered nice folks who are excited to see their visions on paper. It’s a very rewarding experience. Enjoy it! :)

So for the last few years, we've had this darling little pair of crows that spends the falls/winters in our yard. This year, the happy couple has returned with a friend (possibly their baby?), and they've been taking little bird baths on the pool cover! They usually see me and fly away when I try to get pictures but! I'm gonna try to record them being precious splashy birbs c:

That would be absolutely adorable<3 I would love to see the video you take if you do get the chance!
