i'm actually quite happy with this one it's different from what i usually do but i like it

justanotherhamiltrash  asked:

Hi there, do you have any recs for long drarry fics? I'm not very good at finding them

Hello!! I’ve done a rec list for long, slow burn fics in the past, so please check that out because I love every fic on that list to death! But OH MAN I could talk about long Drarry fics for the rest of my life, so here are some more! All very long, but not necessarily slow burn this time ;)

What We Pretend We Can’t See by gyzym (131K)- Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
This is the only one I am going to copy from the slow burn rec list, because I just want to rec it every day of my life. It is quite literally my number one favorite fic ever, and I am not exaggerating. Do you see how serious I am right now? I am never serious. This fic is so amazing it turned me serious. I’m not even going to summarize it again because if you trust me at all you will just go read it nooooooow.

Turn by Saras_Girl (307K)- One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.
Of course in the middle of declaring my favorite fic ever, I had to remember Turn and how utterly brilliant it is and how I’ve reread it and it was STILL utterly brilliant the second time and have a crisis because MAYBE THIS IS ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE FIC???! Aaah help, I can never choose! Anyway, are you a drarry fan who hasn’t read Turn yet? Really? Well, in that case FUCK YOU BECAUSE I AM SO JEALOUS YOU GET TO READ IT FOR THE FIRST TIME YOU LUCKY BASTARD. *ahem* Anyway, in this amazing fic, epilogue-compliant and worn-down Harry goes to an alternate dimension in which he is happily married to Draco, owns the best pet snake ever, and makes furniture for a living (love artsy Harry <3). It’s truly a masterpiece, and as always with my recs there is a happy ending, so don’t worry!

Tales from the Special Branch Series by femmequixotic (272K so far)- (Summary is from the second part of the series, which is the first long installment: Lost in Your ArmsThree months after their brief encounter, Draco has almost forgotten about Potter–or so he tells himself. Then a Dark wizard shows up on the Auror radar and all hell breaks loose. Draco will have to choose between everything he holds dear–everything he’s worked so hard for–and a few stolen moments of passion with a certain green-eyed Inspector, once his sworn enemy and now something rather different entirely. He’ll make the right choice, won’t he? Who is he kidding? He’ll ruin everything, as per usual. Bad choices and the name Malfoy go hand in hand.
This series is a WIP, but a regularly updated one and the FIRST CHAPTER OF THE NEXT BOOK IS BEING RELEASED TOMORROW AND I AM SO EXCITED!!! I feel so lucky to be following along with it as it comes out, because let me tell you, this is an instant classic! There is lovely forbidden fornication between a boss (Harry) and his subordinate (Draco) (the prequel was written for the kink fest so you can bet the sex is SCORCHING), a very compelling mystery/case, and truly brilliant characterization! I identify so much with this Draco. And I also love that Harry isn’t the perfect flawless cinnamon roll he is often portrayed as in fics. Everyone in this series is very human, and I am just dying of excitement to find out what happens to them next! I know I’ve already gushed about this fic in several other places recently, and I’m sorry to repeat myself but I really can’t get enough! PLEASE JOIN ME IN ROOTING FOR @femmequixotic AS SHE KINDLY DEDICATES HER SOUL TO US ALL FOR THE NEXT BIT OF HER LIFE <3

Secrets by Vorabiza (395K)- Beginning with Draco’s unexpected arrival at the Dursleys, Harry’s summer after sixth year becomes filled with activity and many secrets. As his summer progresses, Harry generates several unexpected allies as he finds himself actively becoming the leader of the Light side.
OMG it’s the first fic I ever read!! The fic that brought me into the fandom! I have suuuuuch a soft spot for this fic, and it is just so so so good! It’s probably my favorite adventure/wizarding war plot of all. Harry is just so confident and he embraces his Slytherin side and really Gets Shit Done, and it’s SO SATISFYING. Also, I love any fic in which Draco helps with the Horcrux hunt. Also there’s a baaaaaaby (no mpreg) and mentor!Snape, which is really nice. This fic was written post-HBP, but is SURPRISINGLY accurate in its predictions. Oh, and the sex is super hot too ;)

Checkmate by Naadi (245K)- Draco has the perfect plan to get Harry Potter and challenges him to a game of Dare Chess. But is it love, or betrayal, he has in mind? A real chess game is played throughout the story.
This fic is so lovely! It’s an “alternate 7th year AU”, written after Goblet of Fire. It’s fluffy and funny and lovey and then dramatic and passionate and YEAH I LOVED IT. The real time game of chess, in which Harry and Draco take turns making “moves” (on each other) is just such a wonderful idea. Read the author’s note for more info!

Leo Inter Serpentes by Aeternum (658K combined so far)- Just one conversation between two eleven year old boys goes slightly differently, and the world changes. Just how much will be different with Harry being sorted into Slytherin, and how much will stay the same?
SLYTHERIN HARRY ALERT SLYTHERIN HARRY ALERT! Yep, a Slytherin Harry rewrite, and a REALLY GOOD ONE. Like usually I love the idea of Slytherin Harry, and then once I start reading I either find I’m bored because everything is just a repeat of canon or I can’t get into it because everyone is so OOC. But not this one! This fic is engaging and different enough from canon to be interesting and I love the eleven-year-old baby drarry friendship that eventually turns to romance! This fic also features benevolent mentor!Snape, which I suppose is either an enticement or a warning depending on your preferences. You SHOULD be warned that it’s a WIP. But the author is currently actively posting the 6th book, and I have hope it won’t be abandoned :)

Any Instrument by dicta_contrion (131K)- Draco Malfoy wouldn’t go back to England for anything less than an exceptional case. Being asked to figure out why Harry Potter can’t control his magic might be exceptional enough to qualify.
Okay I have a HUGE thing for healer!draco and this fic portrayed him so so so perfectly. Harry is having complications with his magic after an operation gone wrong. So Draco comes from France and of course they can’t get together because Draco is Harry’s healer but OMG THE UST and then let me just say that when they finally do have sex, it’s the most beautiful, moving, heart-stopping sex scene you will ever read. Like, I felt it in my soul. And the character development is so compelling and there are literally no flaws in this fic whatsoever.

Starts With a Spin by Maxine (120K)- It started with the spin of a bottle, and now Harry and Draco have gotten themselves so far into their own game there’s almost no way out again. Except to keep playing.
AAAAH this fic has all the teenage drarry feels! They’re so in character, always trying to one-up each other! And like these constant party games are happening and they’re being “forced” to go further and further with each other by their friends until they’re actually having sex, and YET THEN THE WAR IS STILL ON AS WELL, and it’s just super well-written and great! Another classic :D

Changing of the Guard by Lomonaaeren (210K)- Need a perfect stranger? Ask Metamorphosis. Harry Potter runs the business secretly and becomes whoever’s needed for each occasion. He’s not sure whether he should be more surprised, worried, or amused when Draco Malfoy comes to Metamorphosis and requests an actor who can play his boyfriend so that his parents will disown him. Yet Harry has even more dangerous choices after he creates Brian, Draco’s “perfect” boyfriend. Draco doesn’t know who Brian is, but he’s trying to find out—and now so is Harry.
Aaah Lomonaaeren! Drarry writer of my dark, dark heart! And yet I know some people aren’t huge fans of her style and I don’t want to be reccing her fics all the time, so I try to keep the Lomon recs relatively infrequent. But if you are looking for long fics and you do like her style, I’m pretty sure she can keep you busy for like an entire year. This woman is more prolific than Steven King, and it’s a true blessing. As for this particular fic, Harry basically has Dissociative Identity Disorder, but he has been making the most of it by running a whoever-you-need-for-hire business. Only then Draco arrives, and Harry’s world had to come crashing down at some point and that point is NOW, and the drama is just so so good and this fic gave me ALL THE FEELS. It’s possibly my favorite of her fics :)

So I’ve had a few questions in the past asking how I colour my pictures and I’ve FINALLY got my ass into gear to create this post showing how. I’m pretty sure those with better equipment and more experience with digital may well cringe at my technique, but I sadly have to make do with what I’ve got and, at the very least, it gets the job done.

The example I’m using for this is my Phantom of the Opera Batjokes pic which can be seen properly here

1. So the program I use is GIMP. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s free art software that works like a basic version of programs such as Photoshop and can be downloaded online to pretty much any computer.

Once shaded, the drawing is scanned and opened up in GIMP. Now for this picture there is a lot of black and it looks messy as Hell and once upon a time I would’ve coloured all the black in with pencil but, to be honest, its just easier to colour the black in digitally and it saves my poor little 4B pencils from having to work quite so hard.

2. I'm very particular with the order of how I draw my pictures and colouring is no different. The first thing I colour is always the skin and it’s literally a case of putting the opacity level down pretty low and then just colouring over the section. It’s basic but it works :D

If I want a picture to be particularly vibrant I’ll adjust the opacity but generally I stick with keeping it quite low so the detail of the shading underneath isn’t lost.

3. Then it’s on to the Batsuit, which is usually coloured a pretty blue, because it fits in with the comics pretty well and I just like the way it looks, really. Of course my main go to reference for the suit is from The Dark Knight because I just frikkin love that Batsuit! Although, for this picture I’ve made the nose of the cowl more pointy because I thought it would fit in with the period feel more.

4. Now for Joker, it’s actually kinda hard to see any colour on there, but if you look carefully between this pic and the previous one you’ll see a difference:

The reason I use the turquoise for his skin is because with everything else coloured in, his skin kinda looks dull and lifeless if left untouched. But the hint of colour gives it a nice almost metallic effect that I really like. Of course the opacity is extremely low, because anything more would leave him looking like a Smurf and I think even J would struggle to pull off that look!

5. Now it’s on to the hair and eyebrows for J. I don’t have a set green I use, it differs depending on the kind of J I’m using and pretty much how I feel at the time. I do often go more towards the bluish hint with the greens though, cos dat purdy.

With the hair it’s usually one layer of colour, before highlighting a few strands just to make them stand out more. I don't often make the eyebrows as vibrant as the hair because it’s a bit much for the face otherwise.

6. And now one of my favourite bits to do! J has messy make up in this pic (which I always enjoy!) and instead of the normal paintbrush tool I use for everything else, I go for the airbrush one, just to make the smudged lipstick more realistic and to keep the edges soft.

For his eyes, they’re green but I add yellow highlights to make the green seem more acidic, cos J’s eyes ain’t just any ol’ green!

7. And then it’s colouring in J’s suit and, yeah, he may be the Phantom, but he still likes purple! It’s exactly the same process as the rest, just slapping the colour over the top.

8. So, with all the colouring done, it’s time to adjust the contrast and shading. I use the burn tool for that and just generally go over the entire picture two or three times until I think it looks right.

9. And then I fill in all the black sections…

10. …before colouring in the background and then using the burn tool again just to go over any parts that I think need a little extra adjustment, mainly around the eyes and the hair, just picking up the shadows that need to be a little bit darker.

11. Aaaaaaand we finally get to this! The finished product!

I’m just gonna take a moment to squee over how happy I am with the mask! I was worried at first, but after shading it looks ok woohoo!

So I hope that was interesting and now you finally know all my arty secrets! (They’re absolutely not all that secret and pretty simple and basic but *shrugs*). If there is anything else you wanna know feel free to ask and as always thank you, thank you, thank you for all the support and kindness, it means the world to me. Y'all gorgeous!!!!

anonymous asked:

Hi, if you don't mind could you explain what that means because I'm lost, also what trend where you talking about here: "me, being kicked out of school for plagiarism: um you’re not entitled to my emotional labor? find the sources yourself"

um, you’re not entitled to my emotional labour.

No, I’m joking, of course I will explain.

This is a joke about an exchange you might see rattling around tumblr, usually in regards to social justice topics. Someone will ask for an explanation of or clarification on a topic, or advice on how to handle something and they’ll just be told to “educate themselves”, and sometimes told directly that asking is demanding emotional labour of minorities.

(in case you’ve not run across the term, emotional labour originated in describing the extra emotional theatre service workers are expected to perform for customers, but nowdays gets used more broadly to demands for emotional support and processing and free domestic and similar labour which is disproportionately demanded of women and other minorities).

So the joke is about the differing epistemological standards between Tumblr, where that’s appropriate and academia, where you’d actually be punished because you are, quite legitimately, expected to back up your statements.

And the reason that I reblogged it specifically in the meanest way possible is that I do not like the concept of “just educate yourself”. I really, really do not.

This is an idea that comes from a lot of good places, which is what I’m going to start with. But it also gets used in a lot of ways I find at best deeply suspect and at worst fairly toxic, which is why I was reblogging the joke in my nastiest voice.

1. I do think that if you’re going to ask someone for advice directly the polite thing to do is to exhaust your own resources first. The idea that Dr. Google should be your first stop is a good one and I don’t want to bash on it.

2. A lot of this arises from people who get deluged with questions, often invasive, and often repeatedly exerting the right to take a break. AND THAT’S DEFINITELY AWESOME. No one should be compelled to do activism. When someone says “hey can you answer my question” unless you’re actually being paid to educate them, “no” is definitely an excellent and reasonable answer. And if someone tells you their not doing the question answering thing, the only polite option is to gracefully go ask someone else.

3. Some people get tremendously picky about how other people offer them free time and effort and the call to educate yourself comes, in part from people who’ve been offered summaries and curated reading lists and demanded, instead, private lessons. Which is just bloody rude.

BUT, even though “go away and educate yourself” is a totally reasonable idea in many circumstances, as I’ve listed, there are some really icky ways I see some of this getting used.

1. I find the idea that dropping an ask in someone’s open ask box is a “demand” very suspect. Its certainly a request, but there’s no force associated with it. If I’d decided not to answer this, for instance, I could simply delete it. If I kept getting too many asks I could even close my ask box, or turn off anon. You can’t compel me to answer your ask. You can’t punish me for not doing it. (I am perfectly happy to answer this, fyi). Now, the nature of Tumblr means that searching is very hard and its easy to end up deluged with the same basic question over and over. I’m not an education blog, I get few asks and I’ve still been asked what image captions are for 5-6 times. So I get that it can be very frustrating… but its still not a demand.

2. It often seems to carry the idea that finding information is a lot easier than it actually is. Really basic information can be readily googled. But there’s huge amounts of ideas I’ve encountered during fandom conversations, or just floating through tumblr threads, or on ask blogs that I have LITERALLY been unable to find via google, even after a good few hours looking, and that’s for information that I already know. I don’t think this is malicious a lot of the time. When you’re an expert its very easy to loose track of what is and isn’t easy to find for a non-expert. But its still pretty brutal to exhaust your google-skills, go ask something and be told in so many words to “just google it stupid”.

These two aren’t so bad, they’re mostly just a case of conflicting experiences and that happens. But.

3. Even though “go do it yourself” is a great thing to say if you’re looking to avoid activism (and I’ll reiterate I think that’s everyone’s right and you should never feel bad for saying ‘no I’m done/not doing this’ about activism, God knows I do it enough) I see it being used as activism instead. And it gives me a case of the nopes. Because the person who does the educating sets the curriculum. And when you say “go educate yourself” you’re rolling the dice on if the person who does educate them is on your side or not. Especially because it is virtually impossible to fact-check something you’re unfamiliar with. There’s also often a HUGE effort imbalance. Like, sure, it takes me some effort to dig up my “here’s why image captions are a thing” post. And it took me a bit of effort to write it in the first place, but It would probably take the asker a lot longer to google it all up. And that’s a pretty simple topic. I’ve asked activist friends for reading lists before and realistically getting 20-30min help from them has saved me probably 2-3 hours. And the information quality is better on top of that.

4. While this doesn’t happen a huge amount, I see this sometimes attached to very complex issues, or or topics where opinions are very diverse and then it, quite frankly, creeps me out a bit. Because when I see “just educate yourself omg” attached to a post with a strong opinion element, even though it might not be intentional, I cannot help but perceive an undercurrent of “if you were truly educated you’d agree with me” and “how dare you ask for sources, don’t question me, just shut up and do as I say”… and those… those are not good dynamics.

Sibling Love

@ace-on-ice asked: could you maybe do a short fic of Pidge consoling crying homesick Lance with “don’t worry Lance, I cry when I really miss my family too But at least I have one brother still with me.” and lance is like ?? and Pidge says “You’re my dorky older brother too, remember?” and lance is like ‘Oh!’ and starts to happy cry and then they awkward sibling hug (I love ur writing, you totally don’t have to do this tho)

[A/N: this was asked so long ago, and i’m honestly so sorry i never got to it because i love it so much? I hope you enjoy it, even though its HELLA late.]

Being in space was lonely, exhausting, and made you miss Earth. Yeah, it was super cool at first, but Lance figured out that a lot of things that he loved he could only find on Earth. He couldn’t stand the thought of being away from his family for so long. Were they okay? Did they have enough money? Did his sister have a baby yet? Were his nieces and nephews doing okay without him?

Sometimes the thoughts became too much, and so Lance walked around the castle. Most of the time, when he wakes up late, it’s not because he needs his ‘beauty sleep’ - he’s beautiful enough, thank you very much - it’s because he couldn’t sleep, and didn’t fall asleep until later than usual. During those times that he couldn’t sleep, he found himself wandering the halls of the Castle, making sure that everyone else went to bed at a decent time.

When Lance saw Hunk in the kitchen stress baking, he would make sure that the Yellow Paladin went to bed. When he saw Keith over training himself, Lance would make sure that he put the mullet boy to bed. When he saw Shiro walking around aimlessly after another PTSD episode, Lance would walk with him to keep him company - sometimes they didn’t say anything, not even when they parted ways when Shiro walked into his room. When Lance saw Pidge working on something in her hangar, Lance would sit with her until she fell asleep there, and carried her back to her room.

Tonight, something was different. Keith and Shiro were the only other two awake, Lance first thought. After sending them to bed, though, it became apparent that Pidge wasn’t in her room. Lance went through his usual rounds and found her in the Green Hangar - of course, where else would she be? “You okay, Pidgeotto?” He asked, sitting next to her. This question earned him a nod, though nothing else. So Lance sat with her, watching as she tinkered with something or another in front of her.

Right there, Pidge reminded him of his sister on Earth, Lana. His twin, actually. She was a bit shorter than Lance, and had darker hair. Lana was a computer nerd too - built Lance the first laptop he ever owned. At the time, she told him it wasn’t a big deal, but later she would bring it up to make him do things for her. Like her laundry - he lost count how many times he did her laundry because of that damn laptop.

Lance was so lost in thought he didn’t notice when he started crying. Pidge turned to him, gasped, and then asked, “What’s wrong?”

Lance looked at her confused, but then he felt the tears falling down his face. He reached up to feel his face, a startled laugh escaped his lips. “I just,” he hiccuped, now that he was aware he was crying the tears seemed to fall faster, “I miss my sister. I miss Earth.”

Pidge crawled over to him, and hugged him. “I know, Lance,” she said softly. “I cry when I miss my family too,” she confessed, not pulling away from the hug. She squeezed tighter, “At least I have family here.”

Lance made a confused noise, something that sounded close to, “What do you mean?” but wasn’t quite there.

“You guys are my family too. You’re my brother, Lance.”

Suddenly the tears falling down Lance’s face wasn’t from homesickness, but from happiness. The Blue Paladin pulled away from Pidge, “You’re my little sister, too,” he said, before hugging her.

They ended up falling asleep there that night, curled in each others arms. It was nice, almost like he was back home with Lana.

bobosmith01  asked:

Wait a minute, unless I'm forgetting something, all Shadows have an Arcana. In Persona 3, they make it clear it's only of the first 13 Arcana, as far as I can remember. I don't recall any shadows outside of the 13 Arcana except Teddie (Does he even count?) in Persona 4, either. So why isn't that true for Persona 5?

Okay, time to get out our old friend, P3 Club Book.

World Q&A; Page 177:

Q: What is the meaning of the Shadows’ different Arcana?

Aigis “I understand that the Shadows are classified in Tarot Cards, beginning with Number 0, “The Fool” and ranging to Number 12, “The Hanged Man”.” [Translator’s Note: I originally thought that this was an error in the book, since there are no Fool Arcana Shadows, however, now I think this is referring to Pharos, implying that his Arcana as a Shadow was “Fool”, which would actually make a lot of sense.]

Ikutsuki: “If I remember right, you were taught in class that the Tarot Cards can be used to represent the spiritual growth of an individual, correct? It is similar with the classification of Shadows; their Arcana indicates the tendencies and content of the psychological complexes they entail.”

A: “And the higher the number of their Arcana, the stronger their power?”

I: “Hm, no, not exactly. The Arcana’s number indicates the grade of maturity the Shadow has reached, but all grades are quite necessary to compose Nyx. You need Shadows which tend to all different Arcana meanings, from 0 to 12. When you fuse all of these Shadows, they will mutate into the 13th Arcana, Death. This Arcana is special and, accordingly with its role as the “Appraiser of the Fall”, indicates that the preparations for Nyx’s revival have been completed.”

A: “And that was Ryoji-san. It is sad… He may have been a ‘lech’, but that he had to meet such an end…”

Ryoji: “You called for me?”

A: “Target Located! FIRE!”

R: “Ouch-Ouch-OUCH! That hurt! Ah… What a temperament! I generally prefer my ladies without heavy firearms, though.”

A: “Be silent and die.”

R: Hey, hey, calm down. I was just going to try and explain a few things myself. The “Death” Arcana is special in that I am capable of carrying the true weight of Nyx’s psyche, allowing her consciousness and power to be transferred into me. This turns me into her incarnation - The Nyx Avatar. In this state, I am a bringer of death, comparable to the grim reaper. The Nyx Avatar will then call to its body in the moon and proceed to become one with it. Nyx would then return to being an existence capable of destroying whole planets, only befitting the name “Star Eater”. It’s making me sad just to think of it. But my friend was able to use a trick called the “Universe” Arcana and let me sink into the depths of the Collective Unconscious once more. He’s amazing, isn’t he?”

A: “You seem surprisingly happy that The Fall was averted.”

R: “Well, you see- Ah, on the other hand, some things are better left unsaid. I will be taking my leave now. Farewell!”

A: “…! …He’s gone… I have to admit, he is actually a surprisingly kind person. What are you doing, Ikutsuki-san?”

I: “*sob* *sniffle* He explained all the best parts before I could.”

I take this to mean, that Archetypes befitting the cards from Fool to Hanged Man are all aspects of Nyx, with Nyx herself represented by Death, so Shadows’ Arcana don’t generally go beyond Death, since then they’d represent concepts not inherent to Nyx… However, that only applies to Shadows in their base form. The Shadows in P5 generally take the form of demons, which are imbued with archetypes given to them by humanity, so they have another layer of “meaning” added on top of what they are in their base “goop” form, hence why they can be related to more Arcana than what is representative of Nyx.

I would like to point out that, yes, Persona 4 already DID have a Shadow that fell outside of the 0-12 range, and no, I don’t mean Teddie - at least not directly. I am talking about Shadow Teddie, who was of the Moon Arcana (Yes, Moon, not Star. Moon.) For the longest time, I was quite baffled as to how Teddie’s Shadow, of all the ones shown in P4, fell outside the range of what was common in P3 and P4, but now I think it has to do with what Teddie himself is; his own soul. Despite being a Shadow, he’s already transcended being just an aspect of Nyx’ presence on earth, since he actively tore himself away from that, forging a new identity. So it actually would make sense that this wouldn’t be reflected in only him, but also his own Shadow.

Back to Persona 5; it is worth mentioning here that the Arcana shown in mook battles aren’t actually the Arcana of the Shadows per se, but the Arcana of the gods and demons they appear as, which additionally makes sense of why they fall out of the usual range. If these Shadows appeared in their more abstract forms from P3 and P4, you can be sure that they’d also have slightly different Arcana shown upon analyzed, however, in P5, their Arcana “as Shadows” are not of interest to us, while their “Arcana as Demons” are. I mean, the Demon Arcana are useful, since they tell us what kind of Persona we’ll get out of them, while the Shadow Arcana were never really useful per se. However, in P3 and P4, the Shadow Arcana were relevant for story reasons, since the maturity of the complexes Shadows represented were still important symbolism due to the themes of the game.

However, this isn’t true anymore, which is why displaying Shadow Arcana has been dropped as a feature as early as Persona Q. The boss enemies in P5 generally don’t have an Arcana associated to them either. That’s because it simply isn’t relevant to what these Shadows mean in the context of PQ or P5. The importance lies elsewhere: In PQ, the importance is with how the Shadows relate to Rei’s state of mind, while in P5, the importance is with the vices and desires Shadows represent much more than their Shadow archetypes. Hence, why all boss enemies have a deadly sin related to them, but we never learn their Arcana.

It’s all a matter of narrative efficiency. Whatever isn’t relevant to what’s happening doesn’t need to be shown.

Or, to quote Anton Chekhov:

“If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.”

venting: aaaaaargh!!!!!! :((( I'm so angry, so so angry at Julie. You know what? I believe it's her privilege. It's a Gwyneth Paltrow complex. She has no clue, zero. I've been saying this since the beginning: Julie has had help in writing S3 from the LGTB+ community, with famous personalities volunteering to give a hand. This time she's on her own, and it shows. I mean, Isak's speech was the epitome of whitesplaining, and exactly what I've been told in Germany. "You should't get offended!" :(((

Julie did have help for season 4. They had young Norwegian Muslim girls come in to brainstorm and tell them what they wanted from a Sana season etc. There’s an article interviewing two of the girls here. They might have had help for other people as well but, as far as I’m aware, we only know about the girls.

I am sad and disappointed and angry at a lot of parts of this season too. I feel that a lot of “well-meaning” ideas end up extremely tone-deaf. That Isak speech was one example. It’s not that he didn’t say something perfect that’s an issue, ultimately. It’s that it was framed as this very wise thing he said, going as far as (jokingly, but still) compare him to an imam.

A lot of what has happened since the hiatus has been presented as being, ultimately, Sana’s fault. It’s her fault for isolating herself and not talking to her friends. Her fault for going behind Isak’s back. Her fault for expecting people to understand her and her religion without walking them through it step-by-step. Her fault for “stooping to Sara’s level” (which angers to me to no extent: in no way was what Sana did to Sara equivalent to what Sara and Ingrid did to Vilde as a result).

I know these are flawed characters. That SKAM (usually) does flawed 3D characters quite well. I want my characters flawed. I want them to fuck up and grow from it. I don’t want pure characters who know everything and never do anything wrong.
And yes, the girls have always presumed Sana to be a rock. A badass girl with no background to worry about. We’ve never really seen the girls acknowledge Sana’s private life much or Sana talk about her private life before season 4. And the girls constantly ignoring her the times she tried to reach out to them is realistic given how POC often end up assimilated and ignored instead of included and acknowledged in groups of white people. I am aware of this and I was actually defending Julie on that aspect of the season up until episode 6. I thought Julie was doing this with an end goal. To show white people how they take POC for granted etc. But I now think I was wrong to defend her on that. I don’t think I quite understood the difference between exposing prejudice and perpetrating it.

Because in the end, the “reveal” that Elias is not a homophobic piece of shit only served the white people who never thought he was. The racist trash who have been insulting the balloon squad since the first bts pictures from before season 4 came, who have sent us hate saying we were defending homophobes, ….they won’t learn from this. They’ll just comfort themselves by saying that Julie pandered to us “sjw” and that’s it. Dragging out “reveals” like “brown Muslim boys are actually soft beans” for ages is not teaching people much.
“Tricking” the audience by framing a lot of what the balloon squad (and hijab squad) do as prejudiced before lifting the curtain and saying “tadaaaa, YOU were the prejudiced one haha” when they were framed that way on purpose is not effective.
But focusing, from the start, in presenting complex and flawed Muslims with their own story lines without worrying about “tricking” white non-Muslims (or worrying about us at all, really)…that…that would have been effective.
It’s by consuming a wide and diverse array of stories that we exercise and expand our empathy. Not by seeing this tired narrative of “surprise, the minority is actually the privileged’s friend and is cool and supportive and not a threat and will stand by your side”. That narrative might have been a good start a long time ago. But it’s 2017.
Minorities are still having their stories rely on privileged people’s narratives. They don’t get to exist on their own. They don’t get to be enough.

That’s the problem, isn’t it? This season becomes a season for white non-Muslim people. Instead of being a season primarily for people like Sana. Where we (white people) have to be walked through everything slowly (that convo between Sana and Jamilla was lovely but so much stilted exposition just for the benefit of non-Muslims like “some Muslims do this and other do that…do you know some believe swallowing their own spit is haram during Ramadan? incredible…tune in for more fun facts about Islam!”) at the expense of Sana’s character arc.

It’s how this season is being framed and written that makes me disappointed. How it’s packaged, presented, resolved. How it seems like it’s mostly pandering to us white non-Muslim people.

Some Muslims are very happy with this season and others are very disappointed. People are people, they have different opinions. I’m glad some Muslim people are happy with this season.
But I do feel that this season divides way more than season 3 did…and for a reason.

So far she also, in my opinion, fucked up the mental health references/plotlines in this season. Which surprised me seeing how well she handled them in season 3. So I don’t know what’s happening with this season.

This ended up very long. If you read this far: thank you.

I hope this season ends up more satisfying than it is now. If not: we’ll still have our fanworks.

Now, in midsummer, Finnish people are celebrating this thing called Juhannus: it’s basically a celebration of midsummer and light, which we indeed have a lot of this time of year. I’m sure other countries have similar celebrations, but I thought I’d tell you how we celebrate it here in Finland!

So, first, the name juhannus actually comes from Christianity: some people say it’s the birthday of that guy who baptized Jesus. I think his name was John or something. The Finnish form of the name John is Johannes, so johannes, juhannus, see where the name comes from? However, I know exactly 0 people who really celebrate juhannus because of that. It used to be a festival related to the old religions here, from the time before our neighbours made us Christian.

When do we celebrate it, exactly? Well, since 1955, juhannus has been celebrated - in Finland and also in Sweden, but probably not as juhannus - on the Saturday between the 20th and 26th of June. This year juhannuspäivä (”juhannus day”) falls on 24th of June, while juhannusaatto (”juhannus eve”), which, according to my mom, is when most of the celebration takes place, is 23rd of June, the Friday before. Also known as yesterday at the moment I’m writing this.

How do we celebrate? The most common way is to get together with friends, maybe go to a summer cottage, by the sea or one of our 187 888 lakes, and get drunk. Of course. Finns love all the holidays that give us a reason to get drunk. It’s a little sad, really.

Of course, when you’re drunk, it’s a great idea to go for a swim, especially if you can’t actually swim while sober! That is why many people drown during juhannus, I checked the news just a while ago and already two people had done just that. It’s… also pretty sad, really.

Anyway, there are also people who don’t get terribly drunk on juhannus. I know, because most of my family belongs to this category. The way we usually spend juhannus is that we go to our summer cottage in the beautiful Turku archipelago, usually our grandparents and cousins are there too. We go swimming - while sober because we’d prefer not to drown - go to sauna, roast or barbecue sausages, and just enjoy the summer with the whole family.

And, of course, a crucial part of celebrating juhannus is the juhannuskokko. Bonfires are burnt around the country. It’s a tradition! It was originally used to fend away evil spirits, I’ve heard.

There are also specific ways to decorate your house during juhannus. The most common and simple way is perhaps the juhannuskoivu. People cut down small, young birch trees and tie them to the doorposts of the front door of the house. Wikipedia tells me that the same thing is practiced in Sweden, too, which is not a big surprise since we have been influenced by Sweden quite a lot. I mean, also not a surprise, since we were a part of it for ~600 years. Another common decoration are just… flowers. In my experience, at least.

In Finland’s Swedish-speaking areas and in Åland juhannussalko is a tradition too. It’s also used in Sweden, as well as similar things being used in other European countries, but usually during some other time than midsummer. It’s called a maypole in English, a tall, wooden pole decorated with flowers and such. People dance around it, and, I’m sure a lot of people know what they’re for.

I mentioned sauna very quickly, but it is a tradition to go to sauna on juhannus. It’s called juhannussauna. You’re supposed to make a fresh vihta or vasta  - there is a lot of debate on which is the correct word - from the branches of the juhannuskoivus you just cut from the forest, though any birch tree is fine. When the vihta/vasta is made around juhannus, the leaves are as big as they’ll get but also still soft, so they’re perfect for what you’re supposed to use them for - hitting yourself and everyone else in the sauna with you.

Yes, that is really their purpose, but you’re not supposed to hit them so hard it hurts, just… Hit them. Carefully. Not as if you were whipping them to death with a bunch of birch sticks and leaves. People do this other than on juhannus, too, by the way. I’ll make a post about saunas someday, so I’ll talk more about vihtas/vastas too.

There are also a lot of music festivals in Finland during summer, and juhannusfestarit is a thing. A quick Google search tells me that this year alone there are at least 8 of these. There are other, smaller celebrations too, of course, and there is the event called juhannustanssit. People get together to… dance, really, and probably also to drink. I don’t know, I’ve never been to one, as far as I remember.  (Below a painting by Anders Zorn, called Midsommardans, the Finnish name is Juhannustanssit. Zorn was Swedish, though, but he was friends with a couple of famous Finnish artists, so it goes. It also has a juhannussalko in the background.)

Then, there is also the most important part of juhannus… Juhannustaiat! Juhannustaika is like a “spell”, usually to try to find our your future spouse or to get a good harvest. For most spells you had to be naked for them to work, had to run around fields and saunas and look into wells and jump over brooks and stuff, all while naked. There is, however, one juhannustaika that is still practiced to this day (not saying that the others aren’t, but I personally haven’t done any of those) though probably not that seriously.

It’s very simple, and I’ll tell you how to do it, so you can use it some juhannus, wherever you live! If you can find flowers nearby, I mean. Anyway, it goes like this:

  1. Go outside.
  2. Find 7 different types of flowers.
  3. Pick at least 1 of each type of flower. (Some versions say you have to be naked while picking them, but it’s not necessary.)
  4. Go back inside.
  5. Place the flowers under your pillow.
  6. Go to sleep with the flowers still under your pillow.
  7. Dream.
  8. You should see your future spouse in the dream.

Dating tips from DREV to you all. <3 And happy midsummer, hyvää juhannusta! (Or what’s left of it!)

Komdu sæll og blessaður, vinir minn,
(Come happy and blessed, my friend,)

I must apologize for how long it has taken me to get back to you, and I do hope that you will be able to forgive me for the delayed response.

Magic and rituals are most definitely not my ‘specialty’ (I am no expert, and I do not know the intricacies of this subject like many others do), but I will do my best to help. I am much more familiar with medieval Icelandic society, law, and (more recently) gender studies (particularly the changing concepts of masculinity). That said, I am bound to miss vital resources for learning about these subjects in particular. If anyone else reading this knows of other helpful resources, please feel free to let them be known!

In regards to small offerings or gestures, I am going to focus on two types of spirits in particular: dísir and (land)vættir. (For a bit more detail about what those are exactly, check out this post). There are a few others that could be considered, but I think these would be what you would find the most interest in. Also, I know that you specifically requested álfar, but there is an unfortunate lack of information about them. In my opinion though (which is not much, since I have yet to carefully research this), I believe that the dísir and vættir are álfar, but simply taking on worldly roles rather than mythological ones. There is more complexity to it than that, of course, so take that for what it is worth. Regardless, they are all quite similar in nature. There is, however, much more information (in the sources that I am familiar with) about the other types.

I have actually already shared a few posts containing reading recommendations for dísir and vættir (as well as seiðr and völva). I will share those links with you in just a moment, but I will also be providing the information below (in a format more organized and convenient for you). Here, I am also expanding upon the previous list. Nonetheless, here are the past posts concerning this topic (or topics fairly similar):

  1. Víkingabók Database: Jól, Spirits, Magic, and Rituals. (Needs updating, and it will be sometime following this response).
  2. On Landvættir: An Exploration of Primary Source Examples and Suggestions for Further Reading.
  3. Details from Eiríks saga rauða about magic and magic rituals.
  4. A brief discussion about the term ‘seiðr’ in translation.

Otherwise, here is an updated and more convenient list for you to explore. It is not a comprehensive list by any means, but it should be more than enough to get you started. (For a list of the Sagas and Tales of Icelanders and where to find them, see this post).

A Few Secondary Sources:

I truly hope that this list proves to be helpful for you. As I have said, it is most definitely not a complete list. In fact, many of the sources above may not be worth you buying if for this purpose alone (especially since some of the sagas only refer to your concerns for brief moments). I highly recommend looking at the free versions that are available for each resource if that is the case. If you are to put any money into this research, I recommend the secondary sources that I have listed.

If there is anything else you may need, feel free to ask. I know that it took my a bit of time to respond, but I will be more than happy to continue helping you out. I am nearing summer, so I will have a relatively more open schedule for the next couple months.

Hey I've been following you for quite a while now already and I love your content! I have a bit of a silly question; how do you let the camera move around freely? I'd like to take some screenshots myself in different games however I'm not quite sure how it works.

Ah thanks! Appreciate the follow and for enjoying the screenshots. :) And it’s not a silly question at all! For most of my life i only played games on consoles, so i had no idea that this stuff was even possible. And even when i found out about it after getting Bioshock on the PC in 2007, i was still totally lost for months about how people actually did it. It can be confusing so i’ll try my best to quickly explain a few methods.

So in a game, you have a camera that automatically follows the player everywhere. Represented by Lakitu in Mario 64:

Or practically is the player, like in a FPS.

You either need to assume complete control of that camera/player, or create a new one. The easiest way to do this is by accessing certain debug commands that developers use while designing a game. Commands like “noclip” or “ghost” allow you to take command of the camera/player and walk/fly through walls. You can go anywhere and see anything in the game world. This is the single most useful tool to take screenshots. It’s how we get unique shots from angles you wouldn’t normally see during gameplay.

There are tons of commands you can use to do other things too, like stop time (playersonly), adjust the fov (fov 35) or disable the hud (togglehud). These commands work with games built with Unreal Engine. You can enable the commands in two different ways. Either by adding them to a .ini config file of the game like with Bioshock (once in game, you can just press the key you assigned the command to, to enable/disable it):

or by inputting them manually through a console (which you can usually open up by pressing the “tilde” key) like i’m doing in this picture of Outlast 2 (it’s hard to see, but I’m typing the “ghost” command at the bottom where the green lines are):

For this to work though, you need a game that allows you to change the .ini config file (the game also has to allow you to use/access that command) like Bioshock, or you need a build/version of the game that has the console unlocked (like the pre-release version of Outlast 2 shown above).

For Unreal games that are completely locked down (you can’t edit config files, commands won’t work, etc.) or games with other engines (like Unity, which is much more locked down when it comes to screenshots) there’s not much you an usually do. That’s where the true heroes of the screenshot world (like Jim2point0, Duncan Harris, One3rd, Frans Bouma and Hattiwatti) come in. They either put together “game tables” that can be used with a memory hacking/editing program called Cheat Engine, to re-enable or access certain screenshotting commands like i’m using in this pic:

or they develop their own memory injection tools, like Hattiwatti’s Cinematic Tools, which i’m using for Star Wars Battlefront (a Frostbite engine game) here:

With these two methods, you start up the game, then alt-tab back to the desktop, open up the memory editing program, point it to the game’s .exe, then enable it and the options you want, then go back to the game and use the commands by pressing the keys they’re assigned to in the memory program.

Finally, there are times where i’m working directly with a developer (either for their official marketing screenshots or for things like social media, blogs, etc) and in those cases, i usually get an early debug build of the game which might have everything unlocked (all the developer commands) or one that has certain debug menus, like what i’m using in this pic:

So to sum it up, a lot of what method you use depends on the game and its engine. The Fallouts and Skyrim have the console enabled, but you have to use different commands (like “Tcl” (Toggle Collision)) since they use different engines and a game like the Witcher 3 has its own console, debug menu mod and Nvidia Ansel at your disposal. All this can be a lot to go through/figure out, dissuading potential future screenshotters from even trying, so i’m really happy more and more games are including built in photo modes like Arkham Knight and Horizon. If there’s a particular game you want to know more about though, just send me a message and i’ll go into more detail. Hope all this helped a tiny bit!

KHR and BNHA crossover. One is mafia and the other is hero association XD, what chaos would happen. Or UA made secret alliance with Vongola...

msleilei actually already has a KHR BNHA crossover here, which is GREAT, because it’s Reborn enrolling Tsuna and co in Yuuei and it’s totally something he would do. Purposely throwing Tsuna under the bus is like a Reborn trademark tbh

Gonna nerd a bit LOT here - it’s kind of difficult for me to imagine the results of a mafia group clashing with the hero associations, or Yuuei agreeing to an alliance with Vongola, if only because the two universes are so different in how the creators handled the world/characters.

I don’t mean to bash Amano (and to be fair I think she did want to focus on comedy, + her work is 10 years older) but the KHR verse is… Very sporadic, putting it plainly. There is no addressing of the mafia or the world outside of what was immediately relevant and completely made up (flames, magic, aliens, precocious baby people, etc.) and the same could be said about characterization. Not to mention, there are quite a few characters that Amano doesn’t seem capable of balancing/remembering all the time, and some of them seem to fade into the background and their backstories are forgotten for the sake of plot progression. But again, KHR seemed to be geared with the more slapstick comedy.

Horikoshi on the other hand adds these, little subtleties that maybe aren’t as amazing as I think they are, but I do, I love the little bits of (completely intentional) information he throws at us, the low-key world-building he incorporates that makes us notice things outside of the usual “circle of important characters.” BNHA is undoubtedly comedic, and it’s a humor I definitely like, but Horikoshi has managed to throw in a metric fuck-ton of characters and, the handful he has gotten to explaining, have not made me think, “oh no, here’s the bullshit filler I was worried about.” I genuinely find myself liking each character more and more - heck, I REALLY LIKE THE POLICE FORCE??? THEY ADMIT THEIR MISTAKES OMFG. And despite the fact that some people think it’s very “trope-y” I also think it’s very much not - there are many instances where I expected something to happen (Exhibit A: RIVAL/ASSHOLE WITH TRAGIC BACKSTORY DIDN’T HAPPEN, Katsuki is a shit just because he is one I’m purposely ignoring Todoroki here because he’s nice to Izuku)

Oops, I can literally talk about how much I love this manga/show and how much I admire Horikoshi forever. I digress. My point is that, with a crossover between BNHA and KHR, the immense differences between a very developed world/character vs. a world that would need to rely on fanon concepts entirely is something that I personally would have problems reconciling in a crossover due to my shit world-building ability and actual view on the subject. The first thing that comes to mind with me is that this scenario would have to be absolute crack, or the shenanigans that the KHR group gets up to would be entirely inexcusable - people wouldn’t turn a blind eye as they do in KHR canon, and with the hell that they end up raising in literally every situation they may actually be seen as terrorists before anything LOL.

(Also, I admit to being more curious about what would happen between the KHR group and the League of Villains. I feel like even the LoV would find the KHR-brand of chaos to be too much to handle.)

Because, yes, this would definitely be bordering crack humor, it would have to be, but what if that’s what the crossover is centered on? How different these two societies are, in the KHR verse and BNHA verse?

Everyone sees the KHR-cast as crazy. Tsuna wants to nod and agree, wants to join the BNHA-cast. Tsuna is his own brand of crazy too though, so they’re basically “no you stay on your side of the line.” Conversely, BNHA-verse is so… Normal? So structured? So reasonable??? WHAT IS THIS??? Sure there is the League of Villains that are Evil ™ and all but, even they have a structured system???? Tsuna doesn’t remember ANY of the people he fought actually being willing to like, sit down and talk. No, it’s always been, “you’re annoying trash in my way so you die,” “you are in my way so die,” “you need to die so I can achieve my goal,” etcetera, with EVERYONE wanting to kill him.He ALSO doesn’t remember there being, well, normal people, who just… Want to steal money out of greed and will snatch a purse for it, or want to escape prison just to be free.

(Tsuna is entirely sympathetic of the people in the BNHA-verse, and wonders if he was maybe displaced at birth. He’s wrong and doesn’t realize that he’s just as weird as his friends, but oh well, let the child dream)

KHR-cast are anomalies, absolutely unknown to the government and hero associations. But they are powerful, and their apparent leader (? maybe the BNHA-verse can actually see that Tsuna is the boss, however cowardly he may seem at times; maybe he isn’t constantly at the brunt of a slapstick joke, which is like *angel chorus* for Tsuna) seems amicable enough.

So maybe they try to form a… Not quite alliance per se, but they reach an agreement with the KHR cast. Because these teens and their toddler guard (ANOTHER THING - THEY ALL TAKE REBORN SERIOUSLY AND KNOW SOMETHING IS UP) are complete unknowns but powerful, which means direct internment won’t work. So, informal, unspoken agreement of “we won’t send all of our heroes/forces after you if you agree to come along quietly and not cause more trouble” is reached and Reborn is just like *shoots near Tsuna* “agree to it, Dame-Tsuna.”

Reborn is also curious as to why these people don’t just turn a blind eye. His mafia seduction doesn’t work, people immediately suspect him just for being a particularly precocious child in a suit and with a gun. (Newsflash, Reborn - THAT ISN’T NORMAL)

Tsuna gets to enjoy a normal life for a bit, because his friends have been placed under a very tight leash that prevent them from getting up to their usual destructive habits. He’s happy. Until they’re suddenly called in to help with a certain situation involving villains, and Tsuna is just, “no, NO, you DON’T WANT TO LET THEM GO WILD.” The government is just kinda “yes, we know you are dangerous, but we also need help with this” (and low-key “let’s see exactly what this group is capable of.”)

Regret. Instant regret, because the KHR-cast ends up leveling an entire ward in pursuit of a villainous gang. No casualties on their side thankfully, but so much destruction. THE DAMAGE COSTS.

Government decides “nope” and hands these kids to the hero associations and hero schools to deal with because a huge part of heroism is that they are trained to handle difficult situations with destructive/dangerous tendencies.

… I, I guess Yuuei ends up taking them in, because Reborn wouldn’t stand for the Vongola Decimo going anywhere except The Best, and this would be an excuse to make the main BNHA cast interact with the KHR one.

Wow I’ve come full circle with this dump

fragilefox  asked:

hi, i'm a potential first time mouse parent! i have owned rats in the past. how different are rats and mice, behaviorally? what are some things i should look for when choosing my mice?

Hi, I’m so glad you’re thinking about getting a mouse! I’ve have both mice and rats and personally I really prefer mice. There’s just something about them that I absolutely love that even rats can’t compare.

While both belong to the rodent family, rats and mice have some behavioral differences. Rats are often described by owners as being somewhat “dog-like” and are more hands-on and interactive animals, while mice are more likely to be cautious of people and independent, sometimes only tolerating being petted at best. I think this link explains the main differences between rats and mice very well.

Because some mice don’t care much for being handled, if you can’t be happy with an animal that you can only look at without touching, you shouldn’t get a mouse. It’s much better to expect a mouse that will only tolerate you at best and be pleasantly surprised, than to expect a mouse that will enjoy cuddles and interaction and end up being disappointed. However, mice definitely can end up enjoying being held, especially if you get your mice from a reputable breeder, and a fair number of mine will crawl right onto my hand without a fuss. There’s nothing I love more than watching a timid mouse slowly come out of its shell and learn to enjoy handling; earning the trust of such a tiny animal is so incredibly rewarding. You may not ever be able to play or cuddle with a mouse the way you can a rat, however. They are very fast and curious little creatures who want to zoom around and explore all over, and they don’t sit and chill the way that rats (particularly the boys) do. They are also more inclined to play on you than with you. However, they can be taught tricks just like rats! Don’t expect to be able to fully litter train your mice though– they’re so small that they don’t have full control over their pooping and peeing and will have accidents outside their cage more often than rats. If you allow your mice to free roam it’s a good idea to put some newspaper or towels down to help with cleanup.

My rats tend to beg to be let out of their cage when I walk in to see them and they don’t let up until I leave the room. My mice, on the other hand, do come up to the glass of their tanks when I first sit next to their cage, but if I don’t say hello or try to interact, they will soon get back to business as usual, and I can sit and watch them. Mice are really fun to watch, especially when they are given lots of things to do. They climb, dig, groom, run on their wheel, make nests, scavenge for treats… it’s really cute and relaxing. It’s also amusing to stick your hand inside their cage. The friendly ones will crowd around and put their lil front paws on me or sniff or crawl on me; and if you hold your hand up high enough sometimes they will streeeeetch their bodies out to try and reach, or hop onto your palm.

My personality meshes well with mice more so than rats and so for me I definitely have had a more fun time taking care of my mice than my rats. Not that my rats aren’t fun, but it’s different. Before getting into rodents, I was a cat person, so it makes sense that I might like the independent mice more than rats, haha :)

One important behavioral difference between mice and rats is that while female mice can (and need to be) housed in groups, boys are just fine on their own. In fact, unless you get mice from a breeding line that has had the male aggression bred fully out (which is quite uncommon), male mice should not be housed together. When male mice reach sexual maturity, they will start to fight with other boys. Even siblings who grew up together may become incredibly vicious with one another. If you are genuinely concerned that your male mouse needs a buddy, neuter him and keep him with girls, or have one boy fancy mouse and give him 1-2 female african soft fur rat companions (they’re not actually rats). African soft furs, also called natal multimammate mice, can’t breed with fancy mice, and the two species get along very well if properly introduced.

Ok, now onto choosing your pet mice!

Look for active mice that have clean coats and bright eyes. They should not have runny eyes or noses, and the underside of their tails should look clean and dry. Avoid mice that are scratching excessively (may have parasites) or walk/spin in a circle or have a head tilt (can be caused by an ear infection or neurological disorder). Check the poop in their cage– it should look like dark brown pellets. If it’s yellowish or green, or is runny, they may be sick. If a mouse has runny poops while you’re holding it but the poop in the cage looks okay, it’s probably just scared. If you can hold a mouse without it jumping out of your hand, hold it up to your ear and listen for noisy breathing. Any kind of clicking, whistling or snuffling sound means they have an upper respiratory infection. It’s a good idea to buy mice with a health guarantee, so you can return any that end up being sick when you bring them home.

I would say look for mice that seem to actually want to interact with you, but no mouse I have ever owned was friendly when I first picked them out. All ran around their cage when I tried to pick them up, and a few even leaped out of my hand onto the ground after having caught them. Of course, if one does seem to show interest in you or doesn’t seem as afraid as the others, definitely pick that one! If you buy from a breeder who has socialized their mice and they are used to people and being handled, it can be easier to see what their personalities will be like when you take them home.

Also, if you decide to get a group of females, avoid buying from a store that houses boys and girls together. You are more than likely to bring home at least one pregnant mouse.

Sorry that got so long but I’m very long-winded lmao I HOPE THAT HELPS ;w;

Do you think Ygritte liked Jon more? It seems like she did to me and it kind of makes me a little mad cause he didn't treat her very well. Like she put all of her trust in him and he betrayed that without too much hesitation(even though it was kind of life or death at that point but still), and I just feel like she would never do that to him. Idk I still love them ofc but I wish he would have shown a little more that he loved her, even though he's not as vocal and stuff as she is!

No, I don’t think she liked Jon more. I understand why people could feel this way though but in my opinion they love each other in an equal way, just not the same way.

We know how commited and stubborn Ygritte is when it comes to the wildlings cause ; she’s ready to do anything for what she believes in and i think it’s the same thing when she truly loves someone. When Jon finally agreed to have sex with her, it was a deal sealed for her ; the proof that he wanted her as much as she wanted him (even though it all started way earlier when Jon took Ygritte captive ; she was considered “stolen” according to the wildling culture and it meant that she was his from this point, basically) (still she was waiting for him to demonstrate his desire for her though, until the cave scene it was like a platonic relationship because of Jon’s vows). Ygritte is the kind of person that you shouldn’t betray because when she gives something to you, whether it’s her heart or her beliefs, it’s like the whole thing - not just a bit, but the whole thing. I’m sure she thought about Jon not being as committed as her because of his statut of (ex-)brother of the Night’s Watch, but i think that she blinded herself because she didn’t want to think about what would happen if Jon betrayed her (how she would feel, what she would have to do) ; she wanted to “stay in the cave” forever, in a bubble of happiness. They’re naked at this moment and even though it’s obviously more practical to have sex, the cave scene is also a moment when they’re free of worries and their past, just free everything, free of being two young people in love laughing, kissing, and pushing each other in cold water.

Now about Jon : his heart belonged to the Night’s Watch until he met Ygritte. From this point, it was divided in two and you see his constant struggle in the book  whereas Ygritte can fully love Jon because there’s no such struggle - she lives for the wildling cause, Jon is a wildling, so there’s no problem. You don’t have the impression that Jon loves Ygritte as much as she loves him because Jon tries his best to not allow himself to do that. But deep down he can’t help loving her and that’s something you have to read between the lines (or just read in the book, actually) because he tries to not act this way to suffer less when he’ll have to leave (because he knows he’ll have to, at some point ; whether he succeed at escaping or whether he dies trying, he knows he can’t stay with her forever because that is not him). It’s the same thing with the other wildlings, actually ; he appreciates a lot of them and try not to care about them (which is quite impossible as Jon is someone who cares about stuff/people).

Ygritte would never betray Jon because there’s no reasons for her to do that. She doesn’t live in a lie like Jon does, she isn’t put in a situation where she has to pretend to be someone else. She’s herself, she’s free, which Jon can’t be, not really. I’ll just end this long message with some quotes which demonstrate Jon’s love for Ygritte :

  • If i could show her Winterfell… giver her a flower from the glass gardens, feast her in the Great Hall, and show her the stone kings on their thrones. We could bathe in the hot pools, and love beneath the heart tree while the old golds watched over us.
  • (in the cave :) “I know I want you,” he heard himself say, all his vows and his honor all forgotten. […] “I love the smell of you,” he said. “I love your red hair. I love your mouth, and the way you kiss me. I love your smile. I love your teats.” He kissed them, one and then the other.”
  • They shared the same sleeping skins every night, and he went to sleep with her head against his chest and her red hair tickling his chin. The smell of her had become a part of him. Her crooked teeth, the feel of her breast when he cupped it in his hand, the taste of her mouth … they were his joy and his despair.
  • When she grinned, the crooked teeth didn’t seem to matter. And maybe her eyes were too far apart, but they were a pretty blue-grey color, and lively as any eyes he knew. Sometimes she sang in a low husky voice that stirred him. And sometimes by the cookfire when she sat hugging her knees with the flames waking echoes in her red hair, and looked at him, just smiling … well, that stirred some things as well.

Also, keep in mind that leaving Ygritte was never an easy thing (I am going home, he told himself. But if that was true, why did he feel so hollow? ; Ygritte I’m sorry, I have to… ; You were wrong to love her, a voice whispered. You were wrong to leave her, a different voice insisted) and that Ygritte’s name appear in Jon’s chapters in A Dance With Dragons (so after her death) almost 30 times. I think that says it all !

Hi Rose! I'm so glad that you're back ^^. I don't know if you heard about the interview with Isayama talking about Mikasa, there was much fuss about that. What do you think of the interview?

yes ofc I did! I was here and I witnessed all that mess and I was so close to break my hiatus and add my two cents but then my fellow shippers were handling it well so I let it slide.

Here’s a funny story though: I knew about that interview months ago!
like, early this past summer!
I didn’t say anything because knowing it was from the figure monthly anime-centric magazine I knew it wasn’t that relevant when it comes to character’s relationships unless it was clearly stated that they are talking about the end of the series, if you read closely all the relationships statuses are outdated.

[ the first time was when @kuchen-ackerman found bits of the interview online and yes at that moment we freaked out a bit because we didn’t know where it came from, funny thing though is that we didn’t freak about the “like a mother” thing but more about the “he’ll start to move away” part because it wasn’t well translated so it kind of implied “moving away” rather than “becoming less dependent”, which is more accurate.

I let it go for a while and then later  @suniuz mentioned something about it again, and I confirmed from @fuku-shuu that it WAS indeed the figure magazine! and this where all my worries dissipated, Especially when suniuz gave me a more accurate rough translation.

since then I literally forgot all about it because there is nothing about that interview that is new and shocking, all that was mentioned were things already established up to chapter 50 so … ]

but still when it was published the violent reaction from the fandom did make it uneasy for me, so my reaction was basically this:

About the content of the interview :

people already talked so much and I agree with many things that have been said, but I’m still going to word it my way I guess.
there’s nothing about this interview that’s shocking or new!

1- Eren’s feelings: Idk about others but it was clear for me that Eren’s feelings aren’t romantic at this point, I’m sure a lot of eremika shippers were aware of this fact, and it’s like .. no big deal! what his feelings are now don’t define any other possibility in the future.
like Idk why Antis were happy and assuming we’re so shocked, we are not all delusional! we knew what it is, Eren ain’t about that romance life at this point. and it’s cool! we like to entertain the still existing possibility.

2- Eren will start to grow when he becomes more independent? all good stuff man!
more so, this is… something that actually already happened/happening! Isayama said I’ll draw that scene. he didn’t say I’ll imply that in the story to consider it vague, he said A scene, that’s … chapter 50! it was the only major scene making a clear shift in their relationship, and since then we clearly see the difference.

- and let me say I actually love Isayama’s wording for this!
      - If he said Eren considers Mikasa like an overprotective sister, Even if he wouldn’t mean it in a literal sense, people would still take it literally and would’ve screamed about how they were right all along, and how Eren and Mikasa have actual sibling relationship!
However, he said Mikasa’s “presence” is like a mother! Mikasa can never be Eren’s actual mother, no one can take this literally, so this description is obviously figurative at best!
Isayama is actually a smart man, from the very beginning he completely avoided using the word siblings in any context regarding Eren and Mikasa, he clearly doesn’t want any confusion in this regard.

- so it’s quite funny for people who claim that, because another thing is that Isayama said “rather than a lover”, and if you’re not a delusional shipper, this is a mere fact for how things are at this point rather than a negative revelation.
because when you see a guy with his sister, you don’t say “rather than lovers they have a sibling relationship” because the possibility of being lovers isn’t even there to begin with!
so saying this, he is actually admitting the presence of a possibility, which is again NOT surprising either considering how he wrote their relationship from the start.

when I look at this interview now, it’s almost crazy to think that all this drama happened because of it, there is nothing in it that’s drama worthy!
But I admit that even I, -and I believe I’m usually logical and collected, was unable to think properly because all of the hate and the emotional bullying the fandom was receiving, I was reading everything and its quite sad, and I felt even more bad for people who were directly dealing with it!

we have a beautiful ship in our hands, don’t let anyone puts you down or fills you with negative thoughts about it ^^.

Interview by Tomonori Nagasawa

In order to make an album with a theme like DOGMA we needed a lot of time.

――During the creation of DOGMA you carefully devoted your time to the production without rushing. When was it that you decided to draw and imagine the theme DOGMA??
RUKI It was more than a year before the release day that I first introduced the title DOGMA to the other members. We all started working on songs (songwriting and composing) in order to focus on that theme.

Hello, I'm just a little curious about this! How come you like Andou so much? I'm just interested to hear your reasoning, that's all, I hope it's okay to ask this!

Ohohhohooh O OOOO yess, I’ll gladly tell you. But my wording is also absolutely freaking terrible so I apologize for my English.
I’ll start with the superficial stuff before getting to the personality bits.

SHSL Confectioner
Okay, this is a bit of a silly reason, but I’m very, very happy that there is a (former) SHSL Confectioner in Danganronpa. My parents both are confectioners and I really enjoy confectionery myself.

Character Design
Alright wow, first time I saw her? Instant character design-love. She’s super cute imo, also, bless that floof of hers. I’m also happy that she isn’t pure pink, with that I mean her yellow hat. It would’ve been a pet peeve of mine if her hat was the only thing that was differently colored, but her shorts are the same yellow too so it’s nicely balanced out for my personal tastes.

Alright with that out of the way, here come my terrible ramblings about how interested I am in Ruruka Andou as a character.

The pressure of this whole killing game
Most of the characters suffer under this game, which is pretty obvious, but some show it more than others. I don’t think we will ever truly understand what it is like to be in a situation like this and we’re most likely not ever gonna be in that kind of situation either (let’s hope so, alright? This would be horrifying). I wouldn’t say that Ruruka’s actions are completely mad and unreasonable. Under pressure and panic we can act reckless and do things we wouldn’t ever have thought of doing in our lives.
To me, she’s one of the prime examples of a character who is just feeling torn. She’s a character who actually behaves like I’d imagine someone in a killing game would. Being selfish is such a human thing and selfishness just grows in a situation like that.
If I had her NG Code, it would absolutely drive me into constant fear. “Letting someone leave the game area.”. You can’t monitor everyone, obviously. You can’t watch everyone and you might never know if someone had just found an exit. Imagine having to worry about dying at any given moment.

Fear of betrayal - What made her become like this?
Her fear of being betrayed is really damn big and we know that. Not everyone will understand and I won’t be able to fully understand it either.
I’m interested in knowing what made her become like this. It sounded super ridiculous at first, but after we saw what “brainwashing” (more like, getting so addicted to the sweets it’s borderline brainwashing), it suddenly made more sense why she couldn’t trust people who don’t eat her sweets. She can’t trust people she can’t control, aside from Sonosuke. I really have my doubts on him having been “brainwashed” his entire life, that love he had for her seemed really genuine to me. But the killing game made her snap and she couldn’t even trust him anymore.
I gotta say, it is still kind of ridiculous and I am not defending her actions at all. I’m merely interested in knowing just why she acts like this. What made her become a human who mostly only trusts people she can have under her control? Just why is she like this? Did something happen that made her world view this twisted? It could’ve been just her being like that without much rhyme or reason to it, but her kind of world view makes me think that something happened that made her turn into this. As a kid she did seem pretty normal, but we probably will never know the entire reasoning behind this.
This does not excuse her actions, it explains them. What she did to Seiko isn’t something acceptable.

Liking a character who acts nasty isn’t a bad thing
I’m sure many people who like a character whose behaviour is nasty realise that too. Though, there will always be some people who think they’re innocent even if they’re not, but I’m positive the majority of people who are interested in a character that doesn’t quite fit the standards of goody-two-shoes should know they’re not innocent. There can always be exceptions for a few characters though.
I wouldn’t judge someone based upon what characters or ships they like. If someone likes a villain character from a movie or a game, so what? (No I don’t count Ruruka as a villain, it’s just an example) It doesn’t mean someone’s personality is like that character’s. I’m interested in knowing more about Ruruka Andou as a character. I want to understand her better (not justify her). And that’s why I like this character, she makes me question many things.
I know many people don’t share this opinion, but I would’ve loved for her to survive and learn from her actions. I would’ve liked her to change her world view and try to become someone better. And with that I don’t mean that more people should start liking her, because really, I doubt many would change their mind on not liking what she caused, but I just wanted to see her realise. But she was never given that chance.

Ruruka Andou is a character that isn’t very likeable and I understand that. I understand why people don’t like her, but I do, I’m interested in this character but we most likely won’t get to know more about her.
I usually am not a person who likes character’s whose personality is more nasty than nice. My top favorites are Chiaki & Chihiro after all, but I guess Ruruka made an exception in my list of faves.
I will never excuse her actions. But I want to know more about her and why she is like that.

Thank you for helping to me to my feet after you literally kicked my butt during hand-to-hand combat practice today. I’m assuming that was accidental by the embarrassed look on your face afterwards. It’s okay though, I’m glad you didn’t go easy on me after I asked you not to. At least there’s a chance of me getting better if someone actually faces me like an equal.

dunmarron  asked:

Aren't you concerned about the Brienne/Tormund ship becoming a little too popular?:D I mean everyone seems so into it, and a lot say she should be with him not Jaime..of course I know that B/T is just a crackship and J/B is endgame, but I'm still a bit frustrated that D&D threw another ship in for Brienne right before the BIG REUNION. I feel like a big bunch of fans (especially the non-bookies) will say that it's forced and Brienne should choose Tormund over Jaime (PS I love your headcanons! ^^)

Hi, dunmarron!

Thank you for the question!

I am absolutely not worried at all.

First of all, my shipping preferences are not reliant on what is “popular”. I ship a lot of character pairings, also outside the ASoIaF/ GoT fandom, which are not canon, won’t ever be canon, and within the spectrum of fanfiction enjoy little to no audience. For me, that is absolutely no criterion I find necessary for myself to ship something.

Y’know, I think there are also a good number of people who ship Jon and Daenerys, for instance - and for me that’s so ew I can’t even tell you (though I mean no shade to people shipping it - shipping is a thing of preference, and this is not mine, but I accept that other people find it theirs). The point is, even if that was the most popular ship, I wouldn’t ship it. Or if the popular ship for Brienne were Brienne with Hyle. I wouldn’t care - because I ship her with Jaime.

… and because they will be canon, but that’s on another page. ;)

As you say, BT is a crackship. And I am actually so glad to see that there are so many JB shippers who were quite happy with that moment. Because we CAN afford to be that confident in our ship because it WILL sail.

Now, to the point you raise that some people now say that Brienne deserves better than Jaime and that Tormund is better for her than Jaime based on the fact that he makes hearteyes at her without ulterior motives, genuinely, etc… Okay, again, if people want to ship Brienne and Tormund, that is their thing, but here are my thoughts on this:

I find it awful to think that based on Tormund flirting with Brienne he suddenly grows to be deserving of her. The only thing he does is hit on her. That easily sounds like a girl owes to dance with the dude who’s been flirting with her in the club only because he bothered to talk to her, or because she usually doesn’t have many guys hitting on her - and should be glad that someone finally bothered.

Now I don’t want to let out my feminist-hulk within me, but that is a way of thinking that, in real life (again, I make the difference between that and shipping!!!), I think is wrong in all the ways that matter. Tormund likes what he sees and he flirts - and that is totally fine, it’s natural, it’s fun, but unless Brienne shows to respond to it in a positive way (and her side-glances weren’t like “omg, he shall be my squishy from now on”), he is not deserving of more based on the fact that he didn’t treat her like shit based on her looks. That sounds a whole lot like this “argument” about how Hyle Hunt deserves book!Brienne because he’s not the worst or so. And that is bullshit.

A guy doesn’t deserve a girl just because he flirts with a girl. She doesn’t owe him anything because he likes her or flirts with her.

And the same is true for characters, and hence for Brienne.

Brienne deserves to choose, to have the choice.

That is what she deserves, not some dude who may have made hearteyes at her. In real life, a guy doesn’t grow deserving of a girl only because he is kind of nice to her. If the girl doesn’t want, she has no obligation to stick to that guy.

And in the realm of fiction, Tormund and Brienne didn’t even speak to each other on-screen yet. They share no special connection whatsoever. Brienne is about to leave and Tormund won’t travel with her - because he will take part in what looks like a Bastardbowl. Tell me again how D&D could establish that romance on-screen?

Contrast that with Jaime: She’s spent an entire season only with him - and a good amount of time in KL before she departed. They have a history together. They had meaningful interaction. They care about each other.

Jaime jumped into a friggin’ bearpit to save her.

Do I have to say more?

Jaime is someone who risked everything for her, who saved her, “more than once”, to quote her. Brienne didn’t forget that, as she also reminded us during her exchange with Davos and Melisandre. It might be that she didn’t openly reflect on that on-screen ever since she left, but Brienne didn’t forget what Jaime’s done for her.

So who are we even kidding?

The show’s made the effort to insert this bit into the show - for good reason:

Why insert that moment if one part of that two-character interaction had absolutely nothing to do with it? This was inserted for a reason. And if I am not mistaken, we have good chances something like that will be brought back up that may well remind us of that particular scene short before we get down to business.

Brienne will have to choose.

Jaime will have to choose.

They will get to choose.

And they will choose each other.

So the thing with Brienne and Tormund is nice and fun, but it won’t be canon, ever. If at all, I find the positive aspect that this is getting so much attention on media that suddenly people are a) talking about Brienne, and b) talking about Brienne as a love interest and finally move past the idea that she doesn’t have romantic feelings/ that her arc doesn’t involve romance or, the Seven forbid, sex *barf*.

So am I worried? Nope. Not at all.

To turn to your point of frustration of D&D tossing in another ship before the big reunion - I only see the potential in that. As I have noted in previous posts on the matter, Brienne’s character requires a reintroduction to the romance part of her arc. She was only on the knightly quest in season 5. That was her driving force. Everything that was inside her head concerning Jaime, the audience never got to see it (because we obviously lack the luxury of POV in a visual medium as is a TV show). That means the show has to make the effort to bring those things back up when it becomes necessary - and the timing gives us the big hint that it will be necessary for what Brienne is to do next. And that is to go to Riverrun. That is to meet up with Jaime.

Tormund hitting on Brienne reminds us that she is desirable - and far more importantly it reminds Brienne of that aspect of life, which she pretty much ignored in favor of her mission all this time. It’s not just that the audience is supposed to be reminded that someone might like her based on what he sees, but that Brienne herself is put in that position of being desired. No one’s ever made hearteyes at her other than Jaime up to the point Tormund did it.

I think it’s actually pretty smart by the writers to insert that bit/ plant that seed right before the big reunion. That adds romantic and sexual tension to that encounter without the need of long set-up together. They come back together and those things can come raining down on them. We only have six more episodes to go this season. And we probably won’t see them reunited until episode 7/8 or so. That only gives two/ three episodes to set up a conflict and how it will play out (now either with a cliffhanger or some kind of resolution). That means the show has to do set-up even when they are not yet reunited. And setting Brienne back up as a love interest will make the transition easier even for those who don’t come to the show with “shipping” something (because the majority are still just casual watchers who have either no idea or just don’t care about shipping practices - and are just there for boobies, peens, and dragons). They are now reminded that she is a love interest.

ENTER Jaime.

That is actually done, in my humble opinion, to actually make it NOT forced. We are reminded of Brienne as a desirable woman in the eyes of some - and then we get back to the specific person who cares about her as a person ON TOPS OF EVERYTHING.

Also note how Jaime’s arc in season 6 thus far had… zero sexual tension whatsoever. He hugged Cersei once - and not in a way that you would automatically identify as between lovers. Ever since then, they didn’t even have on-screen body contact. Jaime didn’t make any approaches on Cersei in whatever the way. He is preoccupied with other things right now, as is Cersei.

Now I know that there is still the nibble scene, but I dare to think that this will be the refusal we’ve been waiting for.

Now, if we run with that nibble-refusal-hypothesis for the moment, what does that do? Brienne is established as romantically/sexually desirable while Jaime’s character is totally reduced in his romantic/sexual energy towards his (soon former) lover - and arguably will refuse Cersei romantically/sexually before meeting up with Brienne.

And the effect of that, in my humble opinion, is to free Jaime of the romantic/sexual energy with his then former lover in preparation for the newly arisen and newly highlighted love interest carrying Oathkeeper.

There is so much potential in it!!!

I can’t even tell you how happy this makes me!

So okay, I got myself into a bit of a JB rant right there, but Tormund makes me so, so confident in our ship to sail soon that I can’t even tell you how much.

There is good reason to be hopeful.

Haha, thank you! I have so many headcanons, but they are all my little children.

Thanks for the great question!
