For my friend Karina ( @mephhius ) because she asked me for fic recs and I was like, “Hell yeah!” before I realized I wanted to recommend a lot of fics, so I decided to just pile them all on a separate master post.
This won’t be the final version (if there even will be a final version at the rate I go), but for now I’ll put down what I’ve read and add more in the future. And if anyone wants to send me fics they liked but aren’t on the list then feel free to hit me up because these two kids help me THRIVE!
A couple of disclaimers here:
Not all of these are Mileven centric but the ship is teased (I’m pretty much raiding the Mileven AO3 tag and posting some gems I liked a lot)
While sexual humor is present in some of these, the most Mike and Eleven do in these fics is make out and maybe get to 2nd base. Nothing more than that will be on my fic rec list here because CHILDREN!
Fics that take place post season 1/pre season 2
11 months (story starts shortly after season 1 and ends with s2x08)
A long time ago there was a being made out of clay.
It walked the earth like anybody else, and nobody noticed just how fragile it was. But deep inside, the clay being felt a hole. A hollowness that echoed and hurt within it.
For years it ignored it as the hollowness grew and grew. Eventually it grew so much it couldn’t ignore it any longer.
It tried to fill it with water, but the water ran through its eyes like tears, and the being remained hollow.
It tried to fill it with food. But the food only made the clay being grow fatter, and the larger the being grew, the more clay the hole had to consume.
It tried to reshape itself, stuff the hole inwards, but it didn’t work. All the clay being could do was hide the hole so nobody else could see.
And the hole kept growing and growing and growing, taking more and more out of the clay being to conceal. Eventually, the being’s skin was as thin as paper. It was nearly consumed whole.
Finally, it told somebody about the hole. And the being got the help it needed.
They gave it little stones that would make its clay grow back and stabilize, and they took the being to weekly sessions to stitch up the hole.
Now the clay being doesn’t feel the hollowness inside of it. No longer. It tells itself every day that it’s been fixed. That it’s no longer an issue. That it can walk the earth like anybody else once again.
Sure, it’s still made out of clay. Sure, the echoing within continues. And sure, it once had a hole inside of it.
