Alone

A/N: I’m sorry, I guess??? I just wasn’t in the best mood and though maybe writing it out would help (spoiler, it kind of did, kind of didn’t). I guess it turned out okay. I dunno this is more for me than it is for anyone else.

Disclaimer: you know that feeling when you feel alone in a room full of people? or around people you love? yeah, that’s kind of what I’ve been feeling all night. I don’t mean to say anything about Thomas’s friends (or my friends, for that matter). I…well I was just feeling alone tonight.

Warnings: Loneliness, self-hate

Word count: 775

Patton strolled into the lounge, humming happily to himself. He was in a fairly good mood that day. Thomas had gotten most of what he needed to get done, done, and Patton was feeling the satisfaction of having accomplished something. No doubt this was reflecting on Thomas as well, which just made things even better.

In fact, the entire mind space seemed to be in a happy place. Roman and Virgil were sitting on the couch, talking about the ups and downs of different Disney movies and not bickering for once. Logan was in his room working on scheduling and planning for more projects, but his door was propped open which was a good sign that he could be interrupted at any time and he wouldn’t mind at all.

As for Patton, he was planning to do some baking. Baking when in a good mood always seemed to make the end product better somehow. He waved to Roman and Virgil as he headed for the kitchen, but stopped half way, suddenly feeling…off.

Behind him, the other two were still debating, though good heartedly. Upstairs, he could hear the faint sounds of classical music coming from Logan’s open room. Patton glanced over at Virgil, but the anxious side seem to be doing just fine. If he felt that something was off, he was either ignoring it or just didn’t notice.

Shaking his head, Patton went back to what he was doing, though the happy humming had stopped. He couldn’t help but feel weird. He’d been in such a good mood a moment ago, what happened?

Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore. He sunk out of the mind space and popped up in Thomas’s living room. He had guests over, which was nothing new. In fact, they all had added to the good mood, as Thomas was always happiest when around his friends. Standing in the back, Patton watched what was happening to see if there was any reason for his sudden bad feeling.

Thomas was sitting on the couch, watching a movie along with everyone else. Well, “watching.” Everyone was talking over it. From what Patton could tell, it was about anything but the movie. Thomas, however, seemed to be trying to watch, or at least hold a conversation about the actual movie. No one was listening, though.

Patton watched as Thomas turned to one of his friends and tried to get them in a conversation. It wasn’t even about the movie at this point, just about anything. That friend, however, was engrossed in a different conversation on their phone. Thomas turned to another friend to ask them something, but they were in the middle of a different conversation and completely ignored him.

Patton saw Thomas sigh, and he felt the ache. The loneliness. Patton could feel that good mood ebbing away slowly. It wouldn’t be long before the others felt it too. Patton had just been the first because he was the heart. He was Thomas’s emotions. Soon enough Virgil would be there, wondering if everyone hated him. Then Logan would be there, trying to convince Patton and Virgil that everyone else was simply enjoying themselves, that they should just enjoy the movie. The Roman would show up, trying to think of different ways to engage everyone in an activity.

Patton ran a hand through his hair, looking around at everyone having a good time and not noticing how bummed out Thomas looked. For a moment, Thomas looked up and seemed to lock eyes with him, and Patton’s shoulders slummed at the look that reflected exactly what he was feeling.

Loneliness. Aching loneliness that came from being ignored. Patton hated it. It was one of his least favorite emotions. All Thomas wanted to do was have a good time with his friends, catch up with some of them. but all they seemed to want was to hang out with each other and not even bother to include him, no matter that he was the host of this party.

Patton could sense the others popping up around him. Logan to his left, Virgil to his right, Roman beside him. It didn’t matter, though. They were all part of one person. It didn’t ease the aching or bring any kind of comfort. They couldn’t be of any comfort to Thomas in this instant than they could to each other, and that fact probably hit Patton the hardest. He felt the tears start, and saw the mirrored in Thomas’s eyes.

Thomas stood and walked upstairs to his bedroom, where no one could see his tears. He closed the door behind him, locked it, and slid down to the floor.

No one noticed he’d left.

Hey, so everyone keeps talking about things in LMJ that disappointed them, and that’s fine! But I feel that people are talking only about the negatives and nothing about the positives. That isn’t to say I don’t have some problems with the game, but, at least in my opinion, there was more good than bad! So I’ve decided to make a list of some of the things I enjoyed in LMJ!!

-The story!! There was only one that I didn’t like, and that would be the third case, but only because of the ending, everything else was fine (Ernest’s reaction to Katrielle’s outfit was 👌👌👌). If I had to choose my favorite case it would either be case ten or the final case.

-The characters! Katrielle and Sherl and also reoccurring characters like Inspector Hastings, Mayor Lowonida, and Madame Doublée! They’re all great characters!!

-There’s an entire case dedicated to helping Inspector Hastings get a gift for his wife. I’m so glad that Level-5 made another inspector that loves his wife.

-Ernest Greeves. He deserves his own spot on this list. He is the best boy and I love him.

-I enjoyed the music! I’ve seen some mixed opinions on this but I personally really enjoyed the soundtrack, and as both a violin and piano player, it’s great.

-I liked the art design! I didn’t really mind the speech bubbles, because I didn’t really cared how they looked but I think that the little trunk menu looked cute, and the backgrounds where amazing as always!

-Layton Brothers Mystery Room was mentioned in the game! And it wasn’t retconned!!!

-I liked most of the jokes!! Particularly Sherl’s humor (“Kill me now! Or at least tell me it’s the first of April!).

-Wow I can’t believe Ernest Greeves has two aunts, four uncles, and a cousin now.

-I still suck at the puzzles!!! But they’re still fun!!!

Those are only some of things I can think of right now, but I’ll add more when I remember! If you have anything that you liked that you want to talk about, feel free to add on!

I just looked at the word count for the new chapter and it’s already at 19.5k but I’m probably only about halfway through writing it. I wouldn’t be shocked if this ends up being over 30k words total. I don’t know how or why the chapters keep getting longer but at least y’all can’t complain about the wait now because I’m apparently dropping novel length updates here.

Well, I guess I do know why…most of the earlier chapters were a few hours of time or like a day at most but the ones that have been longer cover a lot more of the timeline. This chapter spans…well…I won’t say how much because that might be a spoiler but it’s more than any other chapter has so I guess it makes sense that it would in turn be longer.

Five reasons to watch Netflix's new Anne of Green Gables adaption, Anne With An "E"...

So I didn’t think I would need to make a post like this but negative reviews that don’t do the show justice (particularly that horrible vanity fair article) have apparently left me no choice….
Overall, Netflix’s Anne With An “E” or simply Anne The Series as it was called when it originally aired on the CBC in Canada, is wonderful.

here are five reasons why you should watch Anne With An “E” on Netflix:

1. Anne herself, Amybeth McNulty.

Amybeth completely captures Anne’s spirit. I swear it’s like someone shook the book and Amybeth fell out of it. She plays Anne with all the dreaminess, quirkiness, and charm that we know and love, as well as adding more depth to her than we’ve seen in previous adaptions. This brings me to my next point…

2. Anne is portrayed as an abuse and trauma survivor, as she should be!

Sure, we all love the lighthearted humor of Anne’s many misadventures in the original stories, and that’s still there in Anne With An “E”, but Anne was also the victim of a lot of mental and physical neglect and abuse in her past life before being adopted by the Cuthberts. In the show, she suffers from symptoms of PTSD and the effects of her past trauma are evident. The result of adding more details of Anne’s past do make the show darker at times, but the dark times only make the light times shine brighter, and we know there are more light times to come in Anne’s story!

3. Besides Amybeth, the rest of the cast is superb as well!

All around, the casting is spot on and the acting is spectacular! I don’t even know what else to say here, but everyone is just so wonderful!!!

And don’t think I’d forget… you can count on me to give a special shout-out to everyone’s favorite slate smack recipient, Gilbert Blythe.

Lucas Jade Zumann is PERFECT as Gilbert. He brings a slyness and playfulness to Gilbert that was there in the books but glossed over in other adaptions. And by the way, his chemistry with Amybeth McNulty is everything you could ever ask for and more…

(side note: I would also like to throw out a special mention to Aunt Josephine Barry, no spoilers but she’s more lovable than she’s ever been)

4. The show tackles timeless and contemporary themes of identity, feminism, bullying, and prejudice.

Anne’s life, realistically, doesn't become all sunshine and rainbows as soon as she comes to Avonlea. She struggles to fit in and faces bullying at school. The show also addresses issues of sexism and classism and does a great job at it while accurately (for the most part) staying within the time period it is portraying.

5. Everything about the show is high quality.

From the aforementioned acting to the cinematography, music, costume design, sets, editing, and the GORGEOUS opening title sequence, everything is the highest quality and you can tell how much thought, time, effort, and passion went into the making of this show.

Please give it a chance and check it out on Netflix, given the opportunity the show could grow and get even better if it is renewed for future seasons!

I have mixed feelings on Spencer’s evil gay twin being the big reveal but CAN I JUST SAY that this would have been SO much more interesting if Alex was in love with Aria??? Like she favored Aria and wanted her to join her?? She threatened to send Ezra to jail??? She ruined their wedding??? Held Ezra hostage and planned to kill him??? Told Aria they were going to be the closest while she’s sleeping?? I mean it’s INSANE but how much more interesting could  that have been if they gone more into depth?

I love Kirishima. A lot. And I love your blog because it mainly focus on him. I love how he brightens the show and how great his character is. But the thing is I saw some of your posts shipping him with bakugo. I don't ship him with bakugo though. I like their friendship and all. I think it's the most beautiful progress I have seen in BNHA. Their dynamic pair is good. May I know why you ship them? And please don't hate me.

Reasons to Ship Bakushima

Since you already like their friendship and think they make a good dynamic pair, you probably have a good idea of why people like their relationship. There are a countless number of reasons to ship them and their relationship has so much going for them, so I feel like whatever answer I give won’t be enough. I’ll try my best to answer this. Maybe it’s best if I list some of the main reasons why I ship them.

1. Kirishima is important to Bakugou’s character development.

Early on, he encourages Bakugou to have friends and allies by being a friend and ally to Bakugou himself.

Kirishima does such a good job making himself a friend and equal to Bakugou that he becomes the only classmate Bakugou can accept being rescued by without hurting Bakugou’s pride. This is a huge step for Bakugou’s character development because it shows Bakugou can learn how to accept help from someone without his ego being bruised.

The character development Kirishima gives Bakugou helps Bakugou become a better hero by encouraging Bakugou to be a nicer individual and to work with other people.

2. Bakugou CARES about Kirishima.

Usually Bakugou doesn’t give a crap if someone is sad. However, Bakugou has been shown multiple times trying to cheer Kirishima up when Kirishima is sad, which is something he hasn’t done for other classmates. Bakugou cares about someone besides himself, and the classmate Bakugou cares about the most is Kirishima.

Bakugou doesn’t care about people like a hero should. As Bakugou learns to care about Kirishima, he can become capable of caring about other people, further showing how Kirishima helps Bakugou become a better hero.

3. Despite Kirishima admiring Bakugou and wanting to be his friend, Kirishima doesn’t let Bakugou walk all over him.

He’ll tease Bakugou like any friend would, even if Bakugou doesn’t like it.

And he doesn’t let Bakugou get away with shit. He understands Bakugou needs to improve his behavior and will call Bakugou out on his bad behavior.

Kirishima won’t let Bakugou get away with not calling him by his name either. Kirishima not only wants Bakugou to be his friend, he also wants Bakugou to treat him with respect. Kirishima doesn’t want to be Bakugou’s minion. He wants to be his equal.

4. This point goes without saying, but similar to how Bakugou cares about Kirishima, Kirishima REALLY cares about Bakugou.

Kirishima is one of the people who is most worried for Bakugou when Class 1-A hears the villains are after Bakugou.

And despite the dangers for him and his classmates, Kirishima is willing to break the rules to rescue Bakugou because he is one of the students hurt most by Bakugou’s capture.

Kirishima checks to see if Bakugou passed the hero license exam and is worried about Bakugou when he sees Bakugou doesn’t pass.

5. Bakugou respects Kirishima.

Bakugou sees Kirishima as a useful ally because their Quirks work well together and is willing to accept Kirishima into his cavalry battle team as a result. Then during that cavalry battle, he listens to Kirishima when Kirishima tells Bakugou to calm down, and Bakugou even refers to Kirishima by his name, something Bakugou rarely does and only does with people he respects.

Kirishima puts up a good fight against Bakugou during the Sports Festival, showing Bakugou that he’s more than just his hardening Quirk, making Bakugou respect him even more.

Not only does Bakugou respect Kirishima enough to be rescued by him without hurting his pride, but Bakugou remembers words Kirishima told him months later. Kirishima told Bakugou he’d be unshakable during the cavalry battle, and then Bakugou recalls those exact words months later. Bakugou doesn’t remember things unless they’re important. The things Kirishima says have a huge impact on Bakugou.

Furthermore, Bakugou thinks Kirishima is so strong that he states Kirishima can be unbreakable like All Might. Considering how highly Bakugou thinks of All Might, that’s a huge compliment and shows how much Bakugou respects Kirishima’s abilities.

6. Bakugou is good for Kirishima’s character growth.

Kirishima looks up to Bakugou for his unwavering determination and strength and tries to be a strong hero more like Bakugou. When Kirishima expresses how little he thinks of his Quirk and abilities, Bakugou gives Kirishima advice and helps Kirishima create his new super move, Red Riot Unbreakable.

As demonstrated by Red Riot Unbreakable, Bakugou helps give Kirishima conviction and a more unbreakable spirit, making Kirishima more of an unyielding wall, which will improve Kirishima’s hero career. Kirishima wouldn’t be the mighty brute force he is now without Bakugou. In addition, the things Bakugou says improve Kirishima’s confidence. For instance, Red Riot Unbreakable raised Kirishima’s confidence and makes him feel stronger, which is important for Kirishima’s self-esteem. Keep in mind, Bakugou usually says things to hurt and lower other people’s confidence, so it’s very remarkable that the things he says helps Kirishima’s confidence instead.

Although, it’s difficult for Bakugou’s threats and insults to faze Kirishima anyway.

Considering Kirishima’s low self-esteem, Bakugou is an important person who’ll help raise Kirishima’s confidence. In addition, both Bakugou and Kirishima suffer from painful inferiority complexes, with Bakugou’s inferiority complex manifesting into a superiority complex. They can both relate to their issues and help each other.

Overall, Bakugou and Kirishima’s relationship gets lots of development throughout the series. They mean a lot to each other and help their characters grow. They’re arguably best friends. They’re so close that Iida automatically turns to Kirishima when asking about Bakugou’s whereabouts.

I don’t expect this answer to convert you into a Bakushima shipper anon. It’s cool if you don’t ship it. This is a very loaded ask because there’s so much I can say about this. I don’t think this answer does this ship or their relationship justice because I can go on and on about why Bakugou and Kirishima are great for each other and why their relationship is important. If I didn’t list some reasons why I like them, then my answer would get disorganized and incoherent. By the way, thanks for asking this specific question. I’ve never really stated why I like Bakugou and Kirishima’s relationship, and it’s nice to finally get my thoughts out there. Although, I could still say more on the topic.

Yo I just watched season 4 and I was wondering... Is it just me or Shiro is confusing Keith with mixed signals ? First he asks him to lead then he gives him orders but after that he's all "you're the leader keith you have to make a decision" I mean what the hell ? It's all so confusing I don't get it

And now that I think of it it might be one of the reasons why Keith leaved Voltron to join the Blade…

Yes, Shiro has actually contradicted himself on numerous occasions. But I like to think that this is because of Kuron. Despite having the same memories, Kuron does not share the same values as Shiro.

-

If Kuron ends up not being a legitimate thing, and it turns out the Shiro from season 3 and 4 was in fact the real Shiro, then I’m going to pretty disappointed on how the writers treated Shiro’s character. Shiro has proven time and time again that he’s a father figure first, and he’s a general leading people into war second. He cares about his team, but in season 3 and 4, he brushed aside his team’s feelings.

If you ask me, the Shiro from Season 3 and 4 seems to follow the mentality of “The mission is more important than the individual.” Which is funny because that seems to be the mentality of all the Galra, whether they’re part of the bom or not.

Ty was silent, and in that silence, Kit thought of Ty’s headphones, the music in his ears, the whispered words, the way he touched things with such total concentration: smooth stones, rough glass, silk and leather and textured linen. There were people in the world, he knew, who thought human beings like Ty did those things for no reason—because they were inexplicable. Broken.
Kit felt a wash of rage go through him. How could they not understand everything Ty did had a reason? If an ambulance siren blared in your ears, you covered them. If something hit you, you doubled up to protect yourself from hurt.
But not everyone felt and heard exactly the same way. Ty heard everything twice as loud and fast as everyone else. The headphones and the music, Kit sensed, were a buffer: They deadened not just other noises, but also feelings that would otherwise be too intense. They protected him from hurt.
He couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to live so intensely, to feel things so much, to have the world sway into and out of too-bright colors and too-bright noises. When every sound and feeling was jacked up to eleven, it only made sense to calm yourself by concentrating all your energy on something small that you could master—a mass of pipe cleaners to unravel, the pebbled surface of a glass between your fingers.
“I don’t want to tell you not to go to the Scholomance if it’s what you want,” said Kit. “But I would just say that it isn’t always about people trying to protect you, or knowing what’s best for you, or thinking they do. Sometimes they just know they’d miss you.”
“Livvy would miss me—”
“Your whole family would miss you,” said Kit, “and I would miss you.”
It was a bit like stepping off a cliff, far scarier than any con Kit had ever run for his dad, any Downworlder or demon he’d ever met. Ty looked up in surprise, forgetting the glass in his hands.
He was blushing. It was very visible against his pale skin. “You would?”
“Yeah,” said Kit, “but like I said, I don’t want to stop you from going if you want to—”
“I don’t,” Ty said. “I changed my mind.” He set the glass down. “Not because of you. Because the Scholomance appears to be full of assholes.”
Kit burst out laughing. Ty looked even more astonished than he had when Kit had said he’d miss him. But after a second, he started to laugh too. They were both laughing, Kit doubled up over the blankets, when Magnus came into the room.
—  so, let me know if there’s any heterosexual explanation for this por favor
post-emoji movie Trauma

WARNING: the following text contains spoilers and can be considered disturbing to some readers. especially my brain, because it’s leaking out my ears after typing this.

This is the first movie ever I’ve gone to see on opening night. And let me just say that, for the record, I’m glad I went to watch with friends. Without them, I would have most likely calmly exited the room, climbed up to the roof, and dived straight off.

SDCC Steven Universe Panel Highlights

I thought I’d summarize some details on the San Diego Comic Con panel for anyone who wants it.

The panel at SDCC opened with a live singing of the theme song.

Zach Callison is the moderator. He introduced the guests: Michaela Dietz (Amethyst), Deedee Magno Hall (Pearl), Estelle (Garnet), AJ Michalka (Stevonnie), and of course Rebecca Sugar. He gives her congrats on the Emmy nomination (which is for “Mr. Greg” if you didn’t know). Then he asks the other cast members some questions. This is all paraphrased, not direct quoting.

Zach to Michaela: What Amethyst quotes do you use most in daily life?

Michaela says that when she wakes up, she makes noises that sound like her Gem is cracked. Then she says maybe she should change her answer to “womp womp.”

Zach breaks in with “Which way to the baby war?” as his favorite.

Zach to Deedee: What songs do you sing around the house?

She responds “Which do I NOT sing?” She likes “Love Like You” in the shower. “Steven and the Stevens” when she’s doing dishes, and “Peace and Love” a lot lately. Her kids are learning the songs on piano and ukulele, so there’s lots of SU tunes happening in her house.

Zach to Estelle: How has the popularity of the show affected your music career?

Estelle basically says a new generation of people are noticing her music and realizing she is the singer on songs they encounter in the wild. Zach says he grew up on “American Boy.” ;)

Zach to AJ: How has Stevonnie changed since their first appearance?

She says Stevonnie has learned a lot, and has more confidence now.

Then the cast does a great little line read of the scene when Stevonnie first appears, beginning with them barging in with “Pretty cool right?” The voice actors all say their parts and perform it slightly differently, which is cute. Then they do a version of “Here Comes a Thought” with Estelle and AJ!

Zach to Rebecca: What’s next on Steven Universe?

(Of course she laughs.)

Rebecca says the show has recently had so many huge events, so there will be lots of fallout, like a roller coaster from here on out. Then they show a clip. It’s sort of like a trailer. It’s all about Lapis’s conflictedness not wanting to get caught in another war, Homeworld’s future actions, Pearl being unable to properly explain the context of everything even though she wants to, and Greg not knowing his place in all this.

Zach says he hadn’t seen it yet.

Then they talk a bit about the Save the Light game coming out. A trailer for the game pops up and it includes footage that hasn’t been seen. Including a new character: Squaridot, a Peridot from Homeworld.

Rebecca was very involved in the making of the game. She says having a console game is a dream come true because they could do so much more than with the small mobile game, Attack the Light. There are Fusions and original characters, and the mechanics are relationship-based, and Greg is a player character who can play guitar. She likes that Squaridot is a Peridot who hasn’t made the kind of progress that Peridot has made. They segue to say Shelby Rabara (Peridot’s voice actor) is taking over social media for the week.

Then they talk about the Art and Origins book being out, and how there’s a SDCC-exclusive version. Launching also is the podcast, a 10-episode production, about the production of the show. McKenzie Atwood is the host. Rebecca and Steven were Episode 1–I’ve already heard this (and I seem to recall there wasn’t really a lot of new info except that the Gem writing in the Kindergarten will say who each section belongs to if you can read it, and that a lot of Ishtar imagery was used, including the 7 lions and the stars). Rebecca did episode 1 of the podcast with her brother, and says she wishes she could do everything with Steven. Zach and Grace are Episode 2.

They talk about how the soundtrack Volume 1 is out, and announce that a vinyl version is out in fall! A limited-run Stronger than You and Love Like You vinyl single is out for SDCC.

Then they play a name-the-song game with SU cosplayers. They complimented a Pearl cosplayer’s cool spear too. They read lyrics, tell what song it’s from, and if the player gets it right, they win a vinyl single. Quiz songs included “Love Like You,” “Wailing Stone,” “Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart,” “Steven and the Stevens,” “It’s Over, Isn’t It,” “What’s the Use of Feeling (Blue),” and “Comet.” Most people got them right, but if they got it wrong they got to try another one.

Then there’s a Q&A, which I’m paraphrasing the 12 questions:

1. Audience member: Fluorite is a polyamorous relationship, right? What inspired it?

Rebecca said she went to an LGBTQ center in Long Beach and chatted about what stuff they really wanted to see. Poly relationships came up. (So yes, that’s confirmed, though in my opinion it really didn’t have to be since they were pretty clear about it!)

2. Audience member: Fan theories–do they influence you or do you have a master plan?

Rebecca says she loves fan theories, but they work way further in the future, so no, they really don’t influence what the story does. She has loved reading the theories about the trial, because some are onto something, and some are like way off. Zach says the good stuff gets downvoted a lot.

3. Audience member: Says a favorite character of theirs is Rainbow Quartz, and wants to know will we see a version of her with Steven?

Rebecca says of course she can’t give spoilers, but that Rainbow Quartz 2.0 would inevitably be different. Then she quickly says, “Forget I said that.”

4. Audience member: How old is Lion? Have we seen all his powers?

Rebecca says it’s a good question and can’t say exactly. The episode “Buddy’s Book” gives a hint at the general time when Rose was spending time with seven lions. That’s a gauge for how old Lion is. She implies that Lion does have more to show us about what he can do.

5. Audience member: Regarding the “Off Colors” episode, which Off Color do you relate to?

Rebecca immediately says “Rhodonite, the neurotic.” Then Zach says he relates to Padparadscha because he’ll trail off in the middle of a sentence. Deedee says she relates to that too.

6. Audience member: On writing music for the show–any challenges?

Rebecca says it’s very challenging–they’re given no extra time to work on the songs. “Mr. Greg” was most challenging of course. Zach is glad the Emmys recognized Rebecca’s extra hours. He said he had a hard time when his voice changed. “Puberty is a thing,” he says, while talking about some songs he struggled with.

7. Audience member: Will there be a Blu-Ray?

Rebecca would like it. Making it happen will take more moments like this (the panel, people showing up for the show).

8. Audience member: Did Yellow Diamond shatter Pink Diamond?

Dude.

Zach: “We won’t tell anyone what you say Rebecca.”

Rebecca just says she’s really excited about the next run because it was a chance to do a real murder mystery.

9. Audience member: What inspired you to use gems/rocks?

Rebecca: “Aesthetic! It’d look cool!” But she learned a lot about myths. Smoky Quartz was fun to learn about gem trivia for, building important symbolism into their character. Estelle said gems are just really pretty, that’s enough of a reason.

10. Audience member: How often do you write a song and then build an episode around it or vice versa?

Rebecca says it depends. Character stories will need a song when dialogue just isn’t enough. “Here Comes a Thought” was unusual since it came before the episode. She wanted it to be a tool to teach kids about mindfulness meditation.

11. Audience member: Do you anticipate what’s going to be popular on your show?

Rebecca says on the inside they focus on loving what they’re making. Team ideas that are spur of the moment seem to catch on most with the fans too. They discuss Padparadscha’s immense popularity. Sapphires are sort of Zelda-like, Rebecca says, and she wanted one who reminded her of Peach. Lamar Abrams came up with the idea of making her hair kinda look like a crown to increase the feeling that she has a matching vibe.

12. Audience member: On Lars’ development: was it planned initially?

Rebecca says it happened naturally. He’s one of the oldest characters in the show, and she was drawing him in college. Lars-n-Sadie comics are older than SU. (This was already known but apparently some people didn’t know they predate the show.) So of course they were always going to be important. (Zach says Lars was important in the pilot for calling Steven names.)

“No mourners, no funerals. Another way of saying good luck. But it was something more. A dark wink to the fact that there would be no expensive burials for people like them, no marble markers to remember their names, no wreaths of myrtle and rose.”

So, real question: does anyone who watched that episode think that Keith is emotionally okay? Because NO ONE WHO IS EMOTIONALLY OKAY IS WILLING TO SACRIFICE THEMSELVES FOR A WILD PLAN THAT MAY NOT WORK ANYWAY.

And fuck, I have so many thoughts with the way that Keith admitted to pushing people away before they could leave him in his blog, and how Voltron went from berating him to being perfectly okay with him leaving the team and no one- NOT ONE- of them fighting to get him to stay because they cared about him.

And the way that Keith probably thinks that the team doesn’t really care one bit whether he’s there or not - not that they helped this perception (I love you guys, but for real. Just cause Keith’s moody doesn’t mean he doesn’t have emotions or need someone to tell him they care- Shiro, I’m looking at you especially) and that’s what made it so easy for him to make that choice - he didn’t think anyone would miss him when he’s gone.

I just- I’m literally fucking crying for him right now, and I’ll try to put what I’m trying to say more clearly and cohesively later, but for now I need to vent.

Despite his ruthlessness, I don’t want to believe he could be evil or cruel, I feel that even despite his at times ruthless heart, his heart is the most caring of all. What is your take on the subject of Julian’s ruthlessness and the limits he will cross when under difficult circumstances.

ontheroadtodisaster said: Hi Cassie !!!! I love your writing and it did change my outlook on the world. Are we going to see the dark side of Julian in Queen of Air and Darkness even more than we already did in the first two books and will it ever, under any circumstance be directed at Emma? And please assure me that QoAD will end in a nicely, wrapped up way and definately not with a cliffhanger . (I would love you even if it doesn’t :-) )

It’s hard to answer this question without entering Ye Olde Realm of Spoilers. I will tread carefully and say what I can.

My take on Julian and his ruthlessness is that when we meet him at twelve, he isn’t like that. He’s a pretty gentle and ordinary boy. We watch him change due to the incredible stress and trauma of the Dark War, and the first time I think we see him do something ruthless, or at least something that requires some real steel and emotionlessness, is when he kills his Endarkened father to save his siblings.

Having the care of those siblings for so many years and basically raising them has made him ruthless in the sense that he’ll do anything for them. And though he may be overprotective sometimes, he’s stood between them and the world to good effect for a long time. Without him, his siblings would have been split up and scattered to the winds. They would all be deeply unhappy and shattered to one extent or another, especially Ty.

So unfortunately what Jules has learned is that ruthlessness is effective: it protects the ones you love. And what he’s learned from his losses in Lord of Shadows is that he should be more ruthless … not less.

Absolutely Julian has a caring and loving heart. It’s just that the circle of those he loves and trusts is small and he’s very very careful about giving love or trust to those outside it. He’s very clear to Emma that the world is us versus them as far as he’s concerned because that’s what his experiences have taught him. Would he turn off every parabatai bond in the world to protect his siblings? Would he kill, and what would it cost him: would he only kill the guilty, or also the innocent?

Julian will definitely be faced with incredibly difficult choices. But keep in mind how his story differs from Malcolm's—Malcolm loved one person above all others, and in some ways isolated himself, even from his friends. Julian has never been able to do that. He’s too full of love for his family, for Emma, for Diana. He’s connected to his community in a way Malcolm wasn’t. Whatever paths Julian takes in the future, he has to reconcile those decisions with the love he has for his family and friends. Is Julian capable of cruelty and manipulation? Absolutely. But he’s also capable of great love and gentleness.

As for his ruthlessness being directed at Emma, he would never be violent or cruel to her or his family. It’s just not his nature, or the nature of his darkness.

QoAaD is a work in progress, so I can’t speak to specifics about the ways in which Julian’s ruthlessness comes out or how it affects the story. What I will tell you is that Julian uses some…unorthodox methods to deal with his emotional state.

Queen of Air and Darkness will wrap up the plot of TDA and be a satisfying end to the series. Some mysteries will be left unresolved and taken up again in the Wicked Powers, but TDA is written as a trilogy, and will be self contained as such.
