i would do one of these for all my favourite da characters

anonymous asked:

Wait, who's whitewashed in New Mutants?

*Cracks knuckles*

Roberto “Bobby” da Costa AKA Sunspot is a biracial, white/Black Brazilian man. (The fact that he is Black is actually a crucial part of his origin story too, considering he discovered his powers because racist assholes physically and verbally assaulted him in the middle of a soccer game.)

This is Bobby in the comics, vs his actor, Henry Zaga:

They got the Brazilian thing right, but gee… something seems to be missing. I wonder what it is.

Cecilia Reyes is a Black Puerto Rican woman. She was originally going to be played by Rosario Dawson, (while not perfect, definitely better than who they ended up with) who backed out of the role for reasons unknown. (She probably saw what shit it is.)

This is Cecilia in the comics, vs her actress, Alice Braga:

Well, isn’t that weird. But what an innocent mistake, am I right?

Danielle “Dani” Moonstar AKA Mirage is a Cheyenne woman. A Cheyenne woman with dark skin, and who you could never call whitepassing.
(Dani has also been one of Marvel’s punching bags for a while now, and I am still eagerly waiting for them to give her her powers back and let her rejoin the X-Men where she belongs instead of fucking around in Asgard.)

This is Dani in the comics, vs her actress, Blu Hunt:

Huh, interesting. I’m sure casting a whitepassing native girl is totally coincidentally matched with the other whitewashing, yeah?

“But Blu Hunt is a First Nations woman, shouldn’t you, a First Nations woman, be happy they didn’t cast a white woman to play Dani?” Well, yes and no. Yes, I’m not as angry as I would be if they casted a white actress, as Hollywood ever so frequently does. But we are not required to be happy for Hollywood doing the absolute bare minimum when they should be aiming for accuracy. You know what the optimal casting would be? A dark skinned Cheyenne woman. Like Dani. But I would have been pleased with at least a dark skinned native girl period. And when you pair this casting with the casting of the two other characters of colour, it’s really fucking interesting how supposedly out of their international search for actresses, they could only find a whitepassing girl as suitable to play this very much not whitepassing character.
Like, if someone came up to me and said “Hey, do you want to play Dani, we know she’s one of your favourite characters!” I would say no. Because while I am half Mi’kmaw, I am whitepassing, and Dani is not.

And finally…

Xi’an “Shan” Coy Manh AKA Karma is a Vietnamese lesbian, who eventually is also an amputee. Shan was the first leader of the New Mutants…

And yet she is not even in this movie. They just. Cut her out. She is the leader of the very team they are making the movie about and they erased her entirely from it.

“An Asian lesbian you say? Oh no. We can’t have that in our movie.”

Now, all of these characters have faced whitewashing in the comics from time to time, as well. Comicbook whitewashing is a thing. But that doesn’t mean the movies should follow suit. I’ve seen people post pictures of whitewashed art of these characters and say “look, it’s great casting!” You are comparing whitewashing to whitewashing and need to shut the fuck up.

So, this is my biggest problem with the New Mutants movie, if you can even call it that.

…My second biggest problem is that it’s fairly fucking obvious what the plot of the movie is, based on the trailer and comic knowledge, and I’m gonna go ahead and skip a story about the kidnapping and torture of an Indigenous child with the ability to create illusions out of people’s fears and thus turns the place into a haunted house and by extension is the villain of the movie by what will surely be a Shocking™ plot twist.

foreign films 2.0

hi all! follow-up on THIS post.

this is another very long post giving you film and series suggestions in foreign languages - i have included my three target languages and french just to spice things up a bit.

if you’ve seen any of these or want to expand on the post please fell free to do so!! this list is obviously very subjective and contains things that i have seen and enjoyed, so i would love to see a greater variety of genres/directors featured on here.

wakolda - this is straight up one of my favourite films ever. 1950s argentina. a family accomodates a guest at their hotel, unaware that their guest is nazi monster josef mengele.

tiempo sin aire - colombian mum and son escape the horrors of civil war and move to the canary islands, but the mother will not rest until she has found her daughter’s rapist. contains some graphic scenes, not for the faint of heart.

la regenta - adaptation of 19th century classic, both film and miniseries (3 x 1.5 hrs) available on youtube. the film is mediocre but the miniseries stole my heart. pious wife anita torn between sexy local liberal and dark imposing priest. features an absolutely superb carmelo gomez as the cunning don fermin.

el crimen del padre amaro - another c19 classic, this time in a modern latin american setting where hot priest gael garcia b. can no longer fight his feelings for a certain young lady…

ocho apellidos vascos - SOOOOOOOO FUCKING FUNNY!!!!!

la piel que habito - almodóvar, banderas, weird, cringy, intriguing,  “a horror story without screams or frights” [wiki]

[wiki]

el secreto de sus ojos - “Using a nonlinear narrative, the film depicts a judiciary employee and a judge in 1974 … as they investigate a rape and murder case that turns into an obsession for all the people involved, while also following the characters 25 years later reminiscing over the case and unearthing the buried romance between them.”[wiki] RECOMMENDED

vacas - portrays the conflict between two basque families that lasts three generations, starting in 1875.

la princesa de francia - looks ery promising, centred around a group of actors preparing shakespeare’s “love’s labour’s lost”, in buenos aires. read review here

ligações perigosas [BR] - recently released tv globo miniseries, NOT A NOVELA, available on yt. adaptation of laclos’ les liaisons dangereuses. set in 1920s brazil. love, sex, intrigue, DRAMA, 1920s music. great acting by selton mello and alice wegmann. i cried watching this. i love selton mello

justiça [BR] - also a globo miniseries, follows various characters in recife as each of them searches for their own private justice. RECOMMENDED

amores roubados [BR] - yet another miniseries, based on the book “a emparedada da rua nova”. leandro returns to his hometown from SP and becomes involved with three women.

3% [BR] - a dystopian thriller series, apparently available on netflix. “ The show is set in a future wherein people are given a chance to go to the “better side” of a world divided between progress and affluence in the Offshore, and devastation and poverty in the Inland, but only 3% of the candidates succeed.”[wiki] RECOMMENDED

pecado fatal [EU] - angst, drama, shy sweet love but also bitten family secrets. “a young man and woman fall in love on the night they meet, but he takes advantage of her when she gets drunk. although she doesn’t remember anything from that night, something nags at the back of her mind.” not the most accurate description - just watch it its good

o convento [EU] - a literature professor goes to a portuguese convent to confirm a conspiracy theory about shakespeare. this film is actually in english and french as well as portuguese, but i’ve included it here because it was directed by the great manoel de oliveira. stars john malkovich and catherine deneuve.

o dia de desespero [EU] - another one by oliveira, portuguese entry for 1992 oscars. the film shows the final days of the life of famed c19 writer camilo castelo branco, his blindness and eventual suicide. probably available on youtube.

malena - a classic, story of how a beautiful young woman is ridiculed by her prejudiced community told through the eyes of a young boy lusting over her. very tastefully done and visually very pretty. plus it has monica belucci

la prima notte di quiete - 1972. scruffy alain delon is bitter and elopes with a mysterious student of his who keeps some dark secrets. very beautiful visually, lovely music, unexpected ending. watch this if you want to be sad and vague

lºeredità ferramonti - set in 1880s rome, cunning young woman weds into a split family and wreaks havoc. dominique sanda is brilliant in this. also very nice music by morricone.

des hommes et des dieux - algeria. eight monks live a secluded life in the mountains. when war breaks out, they are forced to make a choice between their faith and their lives. “a luminous tale of faith and heroism”, and also very prettily made.

venus noire - based on the true story of saartije bartman, a black woman showcased in 19th century europe because of her body. explores prejudice, otherness, fetishisation, directed by tunesian abdellatif kechiche. RECOMMENDED.

la dame aux camélias (1981) - isabelle huppert stars as the destitute and illiterate alphonsine who travels to paris and becomes a courtesan. based on alexandre dumas’ novel, of the same title.

So let’s ramble about Ronald Weasley

Today marks 20 years since we got to experience the best fantastic world ever written - Harry Potter books. To celebrate I need to ramble a little about one character that will always be my favourite and since he’s underapreciated so much by the fandom (and by like the whole world ugh) I decided to stop writing my master thesis just to tackle Ron Weasley’s ego.

Where to begin? Since it’s been a while since I reread all of the books my points won’t be chronological but anyway.

1. Do you bloody remember how Ron Weasley didn’t have a thing that belonged fully to him, lived in a shadow of 5 older brothers and didn’t believe that ANYTHING he would achieve would really matter? Remember that? And still he goes on, meets Harry FREAKING Potter and makes him his friend. More than that, he treats him like a normal human being, helps him, explains to him everything about the magical world. And as times goes by he’s known as Potter’s friend and a Weasley and still he’s loyal to the core, defends Harry, sticks to Harry, believes in what he says and in him in general. I mean, 11 year old, f*cking child, sacrifices himself, because a) he thinks it’s Harry who’s the most important and needs the job done b) he’s brave c) he’s selfless, good human being who wants to fight evil d) he’s just the best friend ever, ok?

2. Now, can we discuss the fact that Ron doesn’t have a proper wand till like the third year? Like how can he even pass his classes, do magic and stuff? Yet he does it, so for me he may not be an academic but still a very powerful wizard.

3. He just drives a flying car to the school at age 12. Leaving you at that.

4. Oh no, before that he flies this car with his brothers, cause Harry doesn’t respond to his letters, so there goes a friend to the rescue.

5. Ok. Now. The most emotional point. Started with the sacrifice the first year but then… Ronald Wealey is the most protective person in the whole world. I mean, he’s most passionate when he defends his loved ones. Examples?

- Second year, tried to hex Malfoy for calling Hermione mudblood

- screaming at Snape when he didn’t see the difference after Hermione grew large teeth after a spell

- standing up alone for Hermione when Snape calls her a know-it-all. I mean, the courage there.

- standing on a broken leg in front of Harry and Hermione and telling then-known-murder Sirius Black that “If you want to kill Harry you’ll have to kill us too”

- beating up Malfoy for insulting his family

- just offering himself as Harry’s second for the duel xD

- defending Harry to students when no one believed him Voldemort is back

- defending Harry on the DA founding meeting

- “NO! Keep me, you can have me!”

- also rescuing Hermione from Malfoy Manor

- pushing Hermione out of the harms way in cafeteria after escaping from the wedding

- rescuing Harry from drowning

- going with Harry to chamber of secrets to rescue Ginny

-also going with Harry after the spiders having arachnophoebia

6. And then remember how funny and easy going Ron is. Without him Harry and Hermione would be straight miserable.

7. Also he gave his shoes to Dobby.

8. And he’s great at chess, good at quidditch and meets every requirement to become an auror after the war.

9. He makes mistakes, but ALWAYS makes up for them.

10. He’s INTELLIGENT. Most people, especially after only watching the films, assume that he’s dumb. But he’s certainly not. He is the most perceptive out of the trio, has excellent strategic skills, keeps a cool head in highly stressful situations. He also has the deepest knowledge about the insides of the magical world.

JUST RON WEASLEY EVERYBODY! <3 What’s not to love?

This post was supposed to be much shorter, but people in the Hannibal fandom are so talented and there are too many fics that I love, so this is the result…
After much struggle I decided to divide the stories into two categories: fics that I read some time ago and that still hunt me, and some WIPs that I am following eagerly.
I tried to avoid reccing the “classic” stories and to limit myself to one rec for each writer. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love them, it’s just a length-of-the-post problem!

Fanfictions that stole my heart and that still have to give it back

Friendship is Not My Forte by Azure_K_Mello
“When Will becomes too ill to stand Hannibal takes him to another neurologist. Then the good doctor takes care of him and learns a little more about Will in the process.”
Season one AU where Will’s mental issues have much more influence in his life than in the series. Will is acutely aware of his problems and perfectly capable of dealing with them, and the story explores his coping mechanisms and the constant struggle to live as a functional member of society. In the meantime, Hannibal murders people, Jack tries to catch murderers and the slow burn love story proceeds. This is a WIP, but absolutely charming!

Alternative Means of Influence by 9_of_Clubs and Quedarius
“There are means of influence other than violence.
A Ravenclaw with a rare and inconvenient talent for legilimency; a Slytherin who cannot speak, and thus cannot spell. Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter are strange boys who fall into a strange friendship in this Hogwarts AU, told through their journal entries.
Magic and all else aside, what could have been if they came into each other’s lives at just the right moment.”

Hogwarts AU sadly in hiatus -.-“
This story touches all the genres, from tooth-rotting fluff to devastating angst and violence. As in the Harry Potter books, the plot grows increasingly darker and Hannibal’s sad past is slowly revealed. This story is an emotional rollercoaster and it is impossible to stop reading it!

Wage Your War by Della19
“To say that Will Graham is still an unmated, childless omega at the age of thirty-eight is his own choice is true. It is not to say that it is his preference. Will wants a mate and a family just as much – perhaps even more – than the next omega. He’s simply never met that one person who fit the bill before. And then he walks into Jack Crawford’s office and meets Hannibal Lecter and well that, as they say in the business, is that.
Now all he needs to do is convince Hannibal of that. But well, this is Hannibal Lecter he is dealing with. It must be done a certain…flair. But that isn’t a problem for Will. Not at all.
After all, snakes may kill mongoose, but one must never forget this as well: mongoose hunt snakes too.
It’s Will Graham’s turn to wage his war.
Or, here is a fic about omega! Will Graham manipulating alpha!Hannibal Lecter into getting exactly what he wants.”

This story features dark omega Will slowly manipulating Hannibal into loving him. It is refreshing to see Will using his empathy as a weapon to get what he wants and to kill without a second thought. In the meantime, he also convinces Hannibal that Hannibal is trying to court Will, and not the other way round! Because, of course, it wouldn’t do to destroy an alpha’s pride…
Absolutely dark and delightful!

Bloodline by @xzombiexkittenx
“Someone is murdering fledgling vampires and it’s up to Will Graham to figure out whodunnit while coming to grips with his own undeath. Ostensibly, Hannibal Lecter, whose noble and ancient linage opens doors for the investigation, is supposed to be helping. Helping, is not the term Will would use.”
The classic story where Will has to pretend to be Hannibal’s boyfriend to solve a murder, but with vampires! The investigation proceeds more or less smoothly, and in the meantime we get to discover Hannibal’s quirks as a vampire. Because it is not possible for Hannibal not to cook, right?
Very funny and heartwarming fic, with murders. As in the best Hannigram tales.

This Dangerous Game by MissDisoriental
“ “Keep your wits about you Inspector Graham – I rather fear you are going to need them.”
London 1888. In order to catch the notorious serial killer known as Jack the Ripper, Will Graham must seek the insights of Dr Hannibal Lecter.“

Hannigram AU set in victorian London, with great characterization, humor, cliffhangers and an intricate plot!
This is my absolute favourite AU in all the fandom. Miss Disoriental is incredibly talented and can both make you laugh or scream in terror!
The connection between Will and Hannibal is not explained, is simply shown… They behave differently around each other, they are happier and more relaxed. They really seem meant for each other! Every sentence of the story is filtered through Will’s or Hannibal’s thoughts, which gives emotional resonance to every little details.
This is an absolute masterpiece and everyone should read it!!

Sensates by @starkaryen
“Will Graham is consulting for the FBI on the case of the Minnesota Shrike, but things complicate and everything goes wrong. When he kills Garret Jacob Hobbs, something happens to him and he starts having hallucinations with the known serial killer Hannibal Lecter, who has been imprisoned on the Baltimore State Hospital For The Criminally Insane for three years.
Or, at least, Will thinks they’re hallucinations.”

A Hannibal-Sense8 crossover. Hannibal and Will can touch and feel each other even if they have never met. Will knows from the start that Hannibal is a killer, but he is inevitally drawn to him.
This story is incredibly sweet and emotional :D

A Way to Live by @sugarmaus
“Hannibal is in the market for a new slave. It’s time for his next experiment.”
A really dark story. Hannibal is planning to amuse himself with his slave and then to kill him when he will get bored. Will has to read him correctly and to keep being interesting to survive.
The story is told by Hannibal’s sick POV. Will’s expressions and reactions are constantly evaluated and challenged, and you can see Hannibal slowly falling for his slave… and constantly planning how to kill him. The sense of danger is palpable and the exchanges between the two characters are full of tension.

WIPs that have me hooked

I Do Wander Everywhere by @moku-youbi
“ It’s something he could always do, as far back as he can remember. The first time that really stood out in his mind, he was six and his father was angry. Will did it without thought, running down the hall, trying to calm his wild heart and rapid breathing. His father’s footsteps heavy behind him.
In the end his father had dragged him out from the bed. “Never again,” he’d said, holding Will tight enough to leave bruises on his arms. “Your mother’s gone and I won’t have that under my roof.”
Canon Divergence from Takiawase. Using his ability to become invisible, Will beats Beverly to Hannibal’s house, but his reckoning soon takes on an entirely different shape than what he’d originally intended…”

Will has the ability to become invisible, and he uses it to get out of prison and wreak havoc on Hannibal. Hannibal understands what is going on, but decides to play along…
The idea is enthralling, and I am so curious about what will happen!

Priority One by @shiphitsthefan
“Will Graham became the unwilling host of a xenomorph, ultimately leading to his demise. Hannibal, an android scientist working for the Verger-Pazzi Corporation, finds his dear friend’s death unacceptable; additionally, the opportunity to study the newly-discovered species is too tempting to turn down.
The Company looks to profit; the crew of the Baltimore, to cope; the resurrected and hybridized Will, to accept his fate. As for Hannibal, his developing emotions may prove more alien than the actual one he cares for on board.”

This is a delightful serie of ficlets telling the domestic little inconveniences of android!Hannibal and xenomorph! Will. The stories are packed with so many emotions, and are hopeful and sad all at once. I can’t wait for the next chapter!!

highlands by peacefrog
“Will woke to the sound of crunching leaves. Nearby, water flowed, the scent of it bright in his nostrils. He opened his eyes and squinted against thin rays of sun. His body was bare save for the boxer shorts he went to bed in.”
When Will sleeps, he wanders into the kindom of Hannibal the Forest King. When he wakes up, he deals with the real Hannibal.
This is too short, I want to know more about this universe!

An untamed force by DrHannibalLecterMD
“A season 1 canon divergence with a different meeting.”
This is an Alpha/Beta/Omega Verse, but with a twist. Will and Hannibal meet and have sex, and Will leaves shortly after. Some months later, Hannibal found him…and his son.
There are a lot of things going on in this story. We have a serial killer trying to befriend the Ripper. We have the Ripper declaring unending love to “someone”. We have Hannibal wondering if he should just kill Will and take custody of the baby or do the effort and court him. Through murders, of course.

Conquerors by @cinnamaldeide
“Will had never felt the need to wear them in the presence of Alana, never wanted to distance himself from her, not until Hannibal went from being his best friend to the person who stole his longstanding crush.”
A short but intense dialogue featuring annoyed Will, oblivious Alana and scholar Hannibal. The interactions between the three characters are delightful, especially Hannibal trying to find the meaning of his name in history. But Will can see right through him.

I was thinking the other day how it would have been like to have the Fade quest in Dragon Age: Inquisition be a little like in Origins, where you have to find your companions first before you can progress. The quest might have gotten too long and confusing probably, since so much else is happening: the wardens, Hawke, the Divine and what really happened at the Conclave, and so on. So at least we get to see the (arguably not very fitting in terms of worldbuilding) tombstones telling you about the companion’s worst fears, and as such I found that a really nice little easter egg that you can miss if you don’t look around a bit. And as a easter egg I think the tombstones are totally fine in my opinion. As a disclaimer though, Here Lies the Abyss was one of my favourite main quests in the whole DA series so far and I think it’s great the way it is, nicely balanced and engaging.

But I imagine, since the tombstones don’t really seem to fit (in a world were in the most common/ biggest religion people are usually burned after their death, rather than buried with a tombstone), that you could maybe see them as a placeholder for actual small ideas for sidequests that just didn’t fit in the whole story very well.

If you picture everything happening to the Inquisitor as if it happened in real life though, with no time limit and the typical restraints of a video game to make it enjoyable, the companions might get separated from each other at some point. Maybe either while entering the Fade or a little while after, either by accident or by the Nightmare’s hands. To face the Nightmare they have to reunite first. Since they enter the Fade differently though than in Origins, not through a demon-induced dream, but physically, they wouldn’t be caught in dreams in the same manner probably. Instead though, what if they were somehow still facing their worst nightmares - not necessarily even memories of the past or idealistic scenarios of the future like in Origins (e.g. how Alistair meets his sister or how your warden meets Duncan during a victory celebration because Ostagar never happened the way it actually did).

So maybe you’d meet a Dorian who couldn’t resist the temptation of power and became a corrupted magister, or Vivienne in beggars clothing having failed in all her endavours and having lost everything, or Blackwall who is more like the old Thom Rainier he used to be, ruthless and doing the most cruel things for money. Maybe you’d meet Solas, the last one to be barely alive after a cataclysmic event (>.>) realizing his mistakes and falling to his knees in despair.

I think it would have been a really great opportunity to add a little more companion-content, show some character development - and depending on where you are in the story in cases like Solas and Blackwall it might have given some more hints about how neither of them are who they pretend to be. Imagine the conversation with either of them after the Fade like “so, what was that about” and them somewhat struggling with an explanation.

I need to work this into a fic or something xD

anonymous asked:

hey could you recommend your all time favourite destiel fics?

Hey, dear anon!

Oh yes, I would love to :D I mean, there are a lot of fics I read that are clearly exceptional and awesome and amazing and [insert further compliments here], so I’m just going with the ones I’ve read over and over again because I’m addicted to them and I can’t help myself ;D

a turn of the earth by mishcollin

Dean’s your typical half-orphaned, monster-killing 22-year-old until a trenchcoated stranger crashes into his back windshield one September night, claiming he’s an angel that knows him from the future and that he’s on the run …

(I probably recommended this fic about a thousand times before, but I’m never gonna stop because it’s just so freaking epic ;D)

Not Part of the Plan by  Annie D (scaramouche)

Castiel’s spent most of his adult life keeping his head down and staying out of trouble. This is a deliberate choice on his part, because as a cousin of the King, he’d rather stay unimportant and forgotten. This changes abruptly when King Michael decides that he has a better use for Castiel: he is to be wed to a noble member of the neighboring Republic, as part of an agreement between their two nations.

(If you don’t know this series you should immediately change that because it’s seriously amazing! The whole setting, the developing relationship of Dean and Cas – it’s addicting!)

How to Date an Angel in 12 Easy Steps by fourthduckling

It’s not that hard to date an angel. All Dean has to do is fight off hordes of vampires, research gay porn, get sucked into a crappy Narnia, endure Sam’s comments, creep out on Dr. Sexy, get harassed – oh, and that’s right– figure out he’s into Cas. Easy, right?

(Actually one of the first Destiel fics I read and still one of my favorites! I just reread it yesterday. It’s just so funny and so in character :D)

Kiss You When It’s Dangerous by zoemathemata

When his partner Uriel, betrays him, Federal Agent Castiel Novak is saved from becoming a ritual sacrifice by brothers Dean and Sam Winchester …

(That’s seriously my kind of AU <33 FBI!Cas, hunter!Dean – not exactly on the same side of the law and still there is this powerful connection. I love it <33)

Broadway Musical by Griftings

The romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.

(This is honestly the funniest thing ever :DDD I was seriously laughing tears!! And I’m still doing after the hundredth reread :DD)

Kiss the Baker by Ltleflrt

Jo is pregnant and craving something a little bit unusual …

(It’s just so sweet and fluffy without any kind of unnecessary drama (at least not between Dean and Cas) and I always love to read it when I need something to make me smile <3)

Dean Winchester’s Secret (Angel) Boyfriend by reluctantabandonWinter_of_our_Discontent

Dean Winchester isn’t exactly a team player. So when he starts mentioning a new Hunting partner, Ellen and Jo Harvelle aren’t sure whether they should be worried or relieved. But they’re starting to get the feeling there’s something important Dean’s not telling them about Cas…

(I just love outsider POV and this is so awesomely great!! It’s so much fun to read <33)

Unbound by through_shadows_falling

In a world where Witches and Familiars depend on each other to survive, Dean Winchester remains Unbound, and his magic—and life—is dwindling.

(I’m a huge fan of witch/familiar stories and this one is just freaking epic <3)

Unfamiliar by riseofthefallenone

“We all know that Familiars will be the closest to you. Your bond with a Familiar will transcend family, friends, and even your future husband or wife. A Familiar becomes a part of you, and you a part of them.”

(Did I mention that I like witch/familiar fics? ;p Another really great one!)

A Man May Change by Hekate1308

Sam wishes he didn’t hate the person his brother has become. He really does.

(It’s just a short story compared to the others, but I’m really in love with it! Sam’s POV and how he experiences Dean’s change after his brother goes to college – it’s just a really great fic!)

Austrian Movies Masterpost

*Some of these are not actually Austrian productions, but have important cast or crew members who are Austrian. That is Austrian enough.

Classics and Must-See:

Echte Wiener – Die Sackbauer-Saga (Real Viennese - The Sackbauer Saga), 2008, Comedy, dir. Kurt Ockermüller.
IMDB: 30 years after we saw the Sackbauers the last time, they have estranged from everyone. Only mother “Toni” tries to re-establish the old happy family.
It is the first of two movie sequels to the Austrian cult series “Ein echter Wiener geht nicht unter”.
Trailer, Trailer for the sequel

Das Fest des Huhnes (The Festival of the Chicken), 1992, Comedy/Mockumantary, dir. Walter Wippersberg.
IMDB: A hilarious spoof on ethnological documentaries: an African TV team comes to the Austrian province to document the strange behavior of the natives.
A movie that most students will watch in school at some point, ususally before they really understand and appreciate it, but it’s actually hilarious!

Hallo Dienstmann (Hello Attendant), 1952, Comedy/Musical, dir. Franz Antel
IMDB: Musical comedy about confused identities. Music professor Godai dresses up as service worker for carneval when he accidentially gets a job to move luggage. He plays along when he falls in love with the luggage owner. Everything becomes complicated when the woman of his desire turns out to be the new teacher at the music university.
One of Hans Moser’s most famous movies, also starring Paul Hörbiger. There are several others worth watching, especially if you like musical comedies.
The song Hallo Dienstmann from the movie

Komm, süßer Tod (Come Sweet Death), 2000, Comedy/Mystery/Thriller, dir. Wolfgang Murnberger
IMDB: Ex-detective Brenner wants to keep himself out of trouble but several murder cases and his ex-girlfriend Klara finally get him involved. But making decisions is not one his strengths.
The first of four ‘Brenner’ movie adaptions to the novels by Wolf Haas. It’s also co-written by Josef Hader, who also plays the main character Simon Brenner.
Trailer, Trailer to sequels: Silentium, Der Knochenmann, Das Ewige Leben

Liebe (Amour), 2012, Drama/Romance, dir. Michael Haneke
IMDB: Georges and Anne are an octogenarian couple. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple’s bond of love is severely tested.
Depressing, like any good Haneke movie. Watch it if you’re in the mood to have your week ruined. However, it was nominated for two Oscars and won one, and is worth a watch!

Müllers Büro

(Müller’s Office), 1986, Comedy/Crime/Musical, dir. Niki List
IMDB: Private detective Max Müller and his assistent Larry try to solve a crime but find themselves in strange bars and women.
This is an absolute must-watch and one of my favourite movies in general. The humour is on point, it’s very quotable, and the musical acts just fit in perfectly. Also, we get to see a young Andreas Vitasek!

Muttertag (Mother’s Day), 1993, Comedy, dir. Harald Sicheritz
IMDB: A satirical take on the life of a family in a public housing complex in Vienna as they prepare for Mother’s Day.
Quotable, iconic, hilarious, somewhat disturbing - an Austrian classic!

Sissi, 1955, Comedy/Drama/History, dir.  Ernst Marischka
IMDB: In the first of a trilogy of movies about Elisabeth “Sissi” of Austria, the young vibrant princess catches the eye of her sister’s fiancé, Emperor Franz Josef.
The movie that made Romy Schneider a world star. Maybe not for everyone, but every Austrian should watch it at least once!

Die Wand (The Wall), 2012, Drama/Fantasy/Mystery, dir. Julian Pölsler
IMDB: A woman inexplicably finds herself cut off from all human contact when an invisible, unyielding wall suddenly surrounds the countryside. Accompanied by her loyal dog Lynx, she becomes immersed in a world untouched by civilization and ruled by the laws of nature.
This movie is majorly fucked up. There is no other way to say it. Watch it if you want to feel a mixture of shock, disgust, and depression.

Das weiße Band (The White Ribbon), 2009,  Drama, Mystery, dir  Michael Haneke
IMDB: Strange events happen in a small village in the north of Germany during the years before World War I, which seem to be ritual punishment. Who is responsible?
Another Haneke movie, you can never go wrong with that. And it is an important movie about Austrian and German history.

We Feed the World, 2005, Documentary, dir.  Erwin Wagenhofer
IMDB: A look at how the world’s food is produced and how mass production changes the environment and the lives of people.
This is the movie that almost everyone watched at school at some point.

Recent Movies:

Die Migrantigen (The Migrumpies), 2017, Comedy, dir.  Arman T. Riahi
IMDB:  For a TV documentary, the two unemployed friends Benny and Marko pretend to be petty criminals with immigrant background until the coin flips and reality turns against them.
This movie is hilarious and offeres a different perspective on the much talked about issues of immigration and integration.

Wilde Maus (Wild Mouse), 2017, Comedy/Drama, dir. Josef Hader
IMDB: When Georg loses his job, he conceals the fact from his younger wife Johanna, who wants a child with him. Instead, he embarks upon a campaign of revenge against his former boss and begins to renovate a roller-coaster with an old school friend.
It is a typical Hader movie. Which means it is a bit depressing, but in a funny way. It’s very enjoyable, and the soundtrack only adds to that.

Siebzehn (Seventeen), 2017, Drama, dir. Monja Art
IMDB: Paula, an above-average intelligent student, is in love with her classmate Charlotte. At the same time she feels permanently provoked by dissolute Lilly to challenge her limits.
This movie is cute. I’d bet that the average tumblr user would greatly enjoy it, and I did too. I mean, I didn’t enjoy it just because wlw romance, but it definitively was a plus!

Personal favourites and movies I just need to mention:

Bad Fucking, 2013, Comedy, dir. Harald Sicheritz
This movie is inspired by the name of the real Austrian Village Fucking. It is about the fictinal tourist resort Bad Fucking that mainly attracts people with its unique name.
To be honest, the trailers looked more promising than the movie really was, but nevertheless, it was entertaining. My highlight was Michael Ostrowski, also known as “Franzi” from Vier Frauen und ein Todesfall, as mayor.

Funny Games, 1997, Drama, Horror, dir. Michael Haneke

IMDB: Two violent young men take a mother, father, and son hostage in their vacation cabin and force them to play sadistic “games” with one another for their own amusement.
My favourite Haneke movie. I’m not a huge horror fan, but that movie just struck a nerve, somehow. Make sure you watch the 1997 original, not the American 2007 remake.

Im Keller, 2014, Documentary, dir. Ulrich Seidl
IMDB: A documentary that reveals what its subjects do in their respective basements.
If you think that documentaries are boring, watch this one. The movie is many things, most of all distrubing and, I don’t want to say “gross”, because we’re talking about real people here, but it kind of is, but it is not for a second boring.

Feel free to add more if I missed them!

We were teenagers in the middle of world approaching a war and we were clearly on different sides. We never acknowledged it, but we both knew it. I wasn’t oblivious to Draco’s family history. He was related to people that were known death eaters and his father probably was one. He knew I didn’t share his opinions on muggle born witches and wizards, he knew I was close friends with Harry Potter and a number of other Gryffindors that he didn’t approve of, but we ignored all of it. A voice in the back of my mind told me that the heartbreak would only be worse the longer we stayed together.

*sneaks in and whispers* What if Nagito sang meant to be yours from Heathers? What about a Danganronpa Heathers crossover? I VOLUNTEER HAJIME AS VERONICA BC HE SASSY. And as sad as it is I think that Kazuichi would be Martha- HELP ME CREATE THIS

Oh. Fuck. Yes.

You, anon, have just made my motherfucking day.

Meant to be yours is actually my favourite song from heathers and I can do a mean soprano cover. I have to admit I always pictured Sayaka as Veronica and Mukuro as JD (they’re one of my all time otps don’t judge), but Nagito is absolutely amazing as JD.

Kazuichi as Martha is going to break my fucking heart. Btw, since I refuse to change any costumes, shark boy will be wearing a big fluffy sweater throughout the show. Just imagine him smiling and saying: “I’m a sucker for a happy ending!” My heart boi.

I don’t really know who would be Ram and Kurt, since Ram needs to be somebody Kazuichi would plausibly have a crush on and Sonia does not suit Ram whatsoever. I would say Gundham but he’s too much of an outsider. Hmm… maybe Leon? Yeah, Leon would be good. And then Kurt can be Hagakure.

Just imagine Leon and Hagakure being pissed out of their minds trying to drunkenly serenade Hajime. Or Leon shouting “I haTE FRESHMEN! WHERE ARE YOU LITTLE PRICKS?!” Or Hagakure being like “KAZUICHI BLOW-DA! WIDE LOAD!” And fucking bitch slapping Kazuichi’s lunch tray onto the floor.

Ok, now for the Heathers. Obviously, Heather.C aka mythic bitch is going to be Junko. Obviously. Fucking power bitch, intimidating, looks good in everything, can destroy your social life, demon queen of highschool. “Fuck me gently with a chainsaw,”

Heather.D would be Celeste. Like, I know Celeste isn’t known for being pushed around but I feel like she would if it put her in a good position, power-wise. Like she would tolerate Junko controlling her if it meant she could control the rest of the school. Plus, she would swoop in for that monokuma scrunchie with no remorse as soon as Junko hit the bricks. The shine a light reprise fits her so well, just imagine her singing it while leading a group of teenagers in bitchy choreography.

I am torn with Heather.M. Between Sonia and Sayaka. I think I’m leaning more towards Sonia though purely because she’s blonde. And while Sonia is in no means a doormat, or dumb, I feel like she is more willing to be submissive towards her peers. Plus, Sayaka would try to kill somebody else before she tried to kill herself. But Sonia singing lifeboat makes me feel so sad. So sad, you guys.

Ok, now on to minor characters. Miss Fleming would be a human version of Monomi. She has good intentions but kind of fails to see and understand the big picture. Veronica’s parents: Sakura and Asahina. Kurt and Ram’s dads: Ishimaru and Mondo. The two cops are Kirigiri and Chiaki.

Hajime as Veronica though. HAJIME AS VERONICA THOUGH. He still wears the fucking skirt and rocks it. Him being a lovestruck dummy singing fight for me. Him in dead girl walking being sassy and sexy as fuck, rip Nagito. Him being 100% done in blue. Drunk Hajime in big fun. Hajime being caring and gentle in seventeen, dancing with Nagito like it’s the end of the world. Him being scared out of his mind during our love is god and yo girl. Him being a FUCKING BADASS in dead girl walking reprise.

And Nagito. Does this mean he’s NK then? Well, anyway, instead of slushies he is addicted to bagels. Fuck you, I’m bringing hope bagels back, shout out to my homeboy NicoB. Nagito singing meant to be yours would be fucking spectacular. Nagito singing I am damaged breaks my heart. Nagito just loving Hajime so much but being so damaged that he doesn’t know how to love somebody.

This au simultaneously makes me want to smile and cry.

Dreamingsnowflake’s Ultimate Asian Male Lead Ranking

As promised, I have done something I previously thought impossible and put together my favourite Asian Male Leads. However, suprisingly it wasn’t that difficult to pick the TOP10, though the standings are so damn close (except the number one).  All life-ruiners, every single one of them, so proceed with caution, especially if you are single because you just might end up being a spinster once you see this, You can pretty much deduce my favourite Asian female leads and OTPs (plus many others, but these would make the top of the list anyway, though I would have to make at least a TOP30) from them since they are almost identical, except the last one which would be up there if only the actress didn’t act like a 12 year-old to make up for her age. I didn’t include my second lead sydromes because they deserve a post of their own.

These characters own me and they all meet my sky-high expectations and requirements - dreamy, swoonworthy, broad shoulders, eyes that can melt you, men who would die for you,…

1) SEO JUNG HOO (Healer; Ji Chang Wook)

“The things I like: the sound of the camera shutter he makes. his big hands. smiling eyes. and big embraces. Things I hate: anything and everything that keeps me away from the things I like.”  - Chae Young Shin

HEALER-YAAAAAA! No one can ever beat Seo Jung Hoo EVER!

2) HUO QUBING WEI WU JI (Sound of the Desert, Eddie Peng)

It took 3 years before the Chinese censors allowed the adaptation of Da Mo Yao to air after changes to the title and names and during those 3 years Eddie Peng had to take all the hate from fans as not being good enough for HQB and how Huo Ge would have been such a better choice. Fast-foward to 2014-2015 and no one can imagine a more perfect Wei Wu Ji.

3) TAHWAN (Empress Ki, Ji Chang Wook)

THE PUPPY EMPEROR! The man who produced the most adorable baby in Kdramaland. Fascinating, brave, weak, loving, fucked-up,…doomed to be a second male lead by the writers, but the whole kdrama-viewing world fell in love with him, JCW’s inspired performance and his sizzling chemistry with HJW, that Tahwan defied the odds in the real world just like he did in the fictional world - he became the all-powerful Emperor who defeated all his enemies and protected his loved ones and finally won the love of the woman he loved above all else from the moment he met her. Hell, just before the drama premiered the writers published the book where Nyang tells Tahwan in his finally moments she never loved him but in the drama she proclaims her undying love for him - THAT AWESOME WAS HE! I MEAN I WATCHED AND RE-WATCHED 51 FREAKING EPISODES OF SAGEUK!!!

4) HOSHIKAWA TAKANE (From Five to Nine, Yamashita Tomohisa)

After 2 months of gushing over THE MONK WITH WHO WE FELL IN LOVE what can I add more -  GIVE US THAT SPECIAL, FUJI TV, OR THE FANDOM WILL RIOT!

5) DO MIN JOON (My  Love From Another Star, Kim Soo Hyun)

So alone and so perfect. It would be a noona romance if only the male lead wouldn’t be a 400+ years old alien. Kim Soo Hyun slays!

6) KAMIYA NAOKI (Buzzer Beat, Yamashita Tomohisa)

Probaly the most sane, normal, warm and real male lead from the bunch together with No.8.

7) LEE SUN JAE (Secret Love Affair, Yoo Ah In)

I’m a huge sucker for Noona and forbidden romances, so when I get a 20-year-old virgin piano prodigy in love with a 40-year-old married woman it’s Christmas for me.

8) LEE MIN SEOK (High School King, Seo In Guk)

My favourite high schooler!

9) LEE SOON (Jang Ok Jung, Yoo Ah In)

“Watch carefully! The sky is about to fall on you.” - Lee Soon

And so it did! YAI was born for sageuk! The King and the love of of his life who died for him. JOJ was pure fiction, a delicious historical romance novel. And still the best bed scene in Kdramaland, ironically considering it’s a sageuk.

10) GU JUN PYO (Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho)

For me LMH’s the most raw and the best performance -  I loved him in City Hunter and Faith but there was something special about GJP. For me he is the perfect Domyouji and that is against some strong competition.

Just below the TOP10: Male leads from City Hunter, Faith, Mary Stayed Out All Night, Kurosagi, Liar Game and You’re Beautiful

For the character meme/ask thing: how about the head of the murder nerds - Kaz Brekker?

Listen dude, ‘head of the murder nerds’ is literally my favourite way of referring to Kaz in the history of ever god bless you for bringing this to me. Also yes, yes let’s talk Kaz…

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life (i tried not to let this happen but it did anyway and now I have just accepted my fate)

hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

best quality: he’s a crafty bastard and this comes in handy at times, you know…

worst quality: *represses feelings to the point that they all basically vanish and he forgets that other people have them too and that they can be hurt* (okay, like, I know I listed this as ‘worst quality’ and theoretically it is if you’re talking about like…from a person POV from a character POV though…I kinda love it? And I love it so much I’m going to bore you with a long waffle about the head murder nerd you never asked for but are getting anyway:

I enjoy the commitment to Kaz’s character/personality, frankly. I think it’s easy for characters (especially male characters) to be written in this sort of style, to the point that it’s probably a trope, bad boy on the outside with a heart of gold. Kaz doesn’t have a heart of gold, I might give him one of like…super rusty iron…with holes in it…but it’s definitely not made of gold.

Kaz is a ruthless prick at the start and he’s a ruthless prick at the end and I for one appreciate that. I think….For the most part…what you see with Kaz, is what you get. (Obviously not on the Plots and Schemes part because there needs to be some air of mystery about him. He’s dramatic that way. It’s required for his aesthetic) But in the sense of ‘this is who and what I am; you don’t like it? I don’t care. Deal with it.’ Which is…Refreshing. There’s no hidden reason behind the ruthlessness, he’s not trying to cover anything up (not in the typical sense of ‘my cold, sarcastic exterior masks a tender bleeding heart I’m too afraid to admit to sense anyway) He just is

Which isn’t to say that he’s shallow or simple or boringly written in fact it’s the opposite. There’s an interesting relation between how starkly and simply Kaz is presented. In a lot of ways he’s one of the most simply black and white characters around. He’s deepened, he’s explained, he’s explored, he matures, he grows, he learns, he suffers, he triumphs, he experiences, but the core of who and what he is never really changes. Kaz Brekker is introduced to us as Dirtyhands, the Bastard of the Barrel, the monster wearing a boy’s skin and Kaz Brekker leaves us as Dirtyhands, the Bastard of the Barrel, the monster wearing a man’s skin. He’s never undermined, he’s never softened, his edges are never dulled for the sake of watering him down to make him more palatable. Kaz isn’t palatable, Kaz isn’t, arguably, all that likeable either and yet, and yet…

I think it’s fascinating because, idk about anyone else I can only speak for me and the way I read these books, but I kept waiting for the transformation. I kept waiting for the moment of realisation. I kept waiting for him to shed his armour and prove to us all that he was really just a squishy, sappy sod deep down with issues he was masking with cold sarcasm. I kept waiting for the switch, the sleight of hand, the trick with him - and the trick was that there wasn’t one. He does care, he does feel, he is human (probably) but he’s still him.

He’s still ruthless, still cold, still removed, still withdrawn and distant because that’s who he is. It’s who he’s always been, it’s a fundamental part of who he’s always going to be and that makes him interesting. Because I think one of the things authors enjoy doing is character building with a focus of starting with something old and creating something new. Something shinier. Something better. Something that fixes all the flaws it once had and ta-da! Perfect!!

And dude I was waiting for this to come allll the way through CK. Because she’d set it up! We had everything we expect!! We had the broody, withdrawn, grumpy, traumatised, aloof sarcastic bastard male character; and we had the softer, warmer, female character and they were very obviously Love Interests, and they had Moments and Lines that were so obviously going to be paralleled later, we had, “I will have you without armour, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all.”

I was ready. I was waiting. It was all there!! So obvious!! The armour was going to come off, torn off, shredded off, in a dramatic moment of Character Growth and Transformation and he was going to kiss her and it was going to be like: I am changed. I am a Good Man now, I am Better, you have made me better, you have made me realise what I want to be and I’m going to declare these feelings by kissing you in a dramatic fashion with a romantic sunset and some fancy explosions in the background.

AND WE GOT APPROXIMATELY NONE OF THAT. ZERO. NIL. NOT A SINGLE SOLITARY SAUSAGE OF IT AND I LOVE IT. (we got some, fine, don’t get pedantic on me but it was nothing like what it was built up to be and that’s GENIUS. how does one sell a literal anti-climax and not only get away with it but making it literally perfect for both the characters and the ship. inspirational tbh)

The thing is that way of working was too easy, would have been too rushed and far too…easy. This story is not easy. This story is hard. This story is having pretty much nothing to begin with then having even that taken from you and clawing your way back to something because dammit I have worked for this and sweated for this and bled for this and you will give it to me or so help me you will suffer me for denying me. Point is nothing is given; nothing is easy, and happy endings are…not always what we think they are.

The Dramatic Romantic Sunset Kiss ending, while very fluffy and probably crowd-pleasing doesn’t entirely suit…either of these characters at this moment tbh. Because they’ve been through a lot and they have grown and they have changed and they are closer but…They’re not ready. And I think it…takes something to admit that. It takes something to let characters be who and what they are and not force them to be what you’d like them to be for the sake of a ship or a nice neat ending tied up with a bow that will make everyone happy.

And I think that’s the thing I enjoy most about Kaz: that he refuses to be anything other than what he is. Kaz is cold and cruel and ruthless and flawed because these are flaws, flaws that stem from…a fairly rough childhood tbh. They aren’t little mars to be gently wiped away with the handkerchief held by the doting female love interest (which Inej…also conveniently refuses to be, bless her existence) and I like that they remain relatively intact by the end of it.

His flaws aren’t argued away by the narrative, they’re not easily cured by the loving touch of a female love interest. They’re raw and they’re ugly and they’re present and they’re constant and they force you to accept him this way or not at all. They don’t get excused. They don’t get diminished. They don’t get gently brushed to one side because oh that was just a moment that made him a bit not nice and we don’t want to linger there. They are him, an aspect that has to be considered and counted and weighed when judging his character; it’s a package deal people, the novels just don’t let you cherry pick bits and pieces here and there, this is it, this is everything, all cards on the table, take it or leave it.

Kaz Brekker is a monster. Kaz Brekker is cold and distant and withdrawn and cloaked in armour he’s not ready to remove yet that isn’t prised from him to try and discover some hidden golden heart beneath. There is none. There’s just cold, hard iron and bitter venom. What’s on the surface is what’s underneath too. And I love it.

ship them with: Ineeeejjjj obviously.

brotp them with: Alllll of the Dregs, actually, it’s all kind of fascinating?? The way he interacts with each of them.
needs to stay away from:….erm…himself?? About the only truly dangerous thing to him tbh.

misc. thoughts: I, ahem, I think I’ve had…more than enough thoughts on Kaz for one day. Yes. Anyway. *gently sets the mic down and scuttles off*

Did u like the new stuff pack? I got it today and I'm really afraid to say I liked, bc a lot of people didn't and they aren't really talking about it. It's just that I know this is a pack that I'll use a lot, ya know? But I have to say that the CAS really disappointed me.

I do quite like the pack tbh. Fitness stuff is definitely not the worst stuff pack out there. At least for me, the worst stuff pack is Luxury part stuff. I barely use the CAS or the build stuff so that pack is a waste for me. Don’t be afraid of liking the pack just because others don’t. You do you. (:

I probably like it more than others because I’m mainly cc free. More content means more customization for me and I’m all for it :D

My favourite build/ decor item would have to be that painting. It comes some cute swatches!! This is just the home i’m decorating for my legacy. The arrows point to the new stuff :D

As for CAS, I like the hairs since they’re all very unique. I’m really tired of all the basic hairstyles. The strange looking hairstyles give my sims character which is why I like them. The arrows are pointing to the new CAS stuff that I like the most. The masculine clothing were pretty average, nothing special there. You can’t really go wrong in that section lol (:

so, medici was a flawed show. some things about it, particularly in episode 3 and 5, annoyed me and made me roll my eyes. but i’m not here to rant. in fact i’m here to take my mind off that orange talking std [cit] who just won the american elections and list some reasons why i’m happy i had medici.

  • it’s a rai (italian public tv) production. this in itself is a huge point because rai so far has produced, with few exceptions, mediocre fiction for barely literate old people (aka its average target). producing medici means, at least i hope, that this is going to change. it also breaks a seemingly never ending tradition of miniseries about the risorgimento and 20th century popes and nuns. i don’t mean to say my (beloved) grandmother should have nothing left to watch, but i wouldn’t mind watching something on raiuno as well, since we all pay for it. to put it shortly, it’s a step ahead. and i’ll seldom shut up about how unlike rai this show is in the following points.
  • cosimo is an anti-hero. rai made some, if few, co-productions about far-from-perfect characters before (see nero starring hans matheson) but they shamelessly whitewashed them by throwing other people under the bus and stretching history far more than it’s intelligent. here, cosimo is depicted as an essentially decent but also very deeply flawed person, a liar, an unfaithful husband and a somewhat cold father. he’s brooding and unreadable most of the time and while it’s impossible to hate him (at least for me, madden’s eyes make me weak in my knees) he’s not the shiny, stainless, misunderstood poor soul rai usually showcases.
  • contessina. cosimo’s wife is the strong female character™ you don’t expect. she doesn’t kick ass, she’s not cool as ice, she doesn’t go around poisoning people and claiming her right to sleep around as our modern age seems to want strong female characters™ to always do. she is strong as fuck, she is an iron lady, but she gets to be so even if she cries for her husband, if she’s desperate for his love, if she shouts hysterically at him (SO HAVE I is my favourite quote from the entire show, know it) and yes, wants some dick from him even if that’s just angry sex (ON RAIUNO). even if she’s petty to her husband’s mistress, if she endures, if she forgives him time and again and stays. not gonna lie, i would have ripped his balls and added them to the medici insignia, i wanted her to leave. but because feminism is about allowing a woman her choice and not judge her for it, whichever that is, long live contessina and her choice to stay and raise carlo as her own child.
  • the women. none of the girls from this show are entirely forgettable. bianca was a touching figure, if a bit vanilla. contessina’s what i just said. lucrezia is very sweet, but also growing into a formidable woman. maddalena isn’t just ‘the slut’ and even gets to shade the medici for their disrespect of her. emilia is gossipy but loyal.
  • renaissance in fiction. most italians know very little of the renaissance. ours being a relatively young political entity, we study and celebrate the risorgimento a lot, we produce a lot of fiction about it, we’re time and again told the story of the two WW and the holocaust. which is also great, we should do that. but we forget about the rest too much. we read the da vinci code but we hardly know what da vinci did and we still think napoleon stole the monna lisa because we don’t know leonardo died in freaking france. when medici was announced a lot of people had no idea who cosimo was. the renaissance is sometimes explored in documentaries, though not nearly as many as i see are made on the 20th century and the risorgimento; and it certainly hadn’t been explored in home-made fiction for at least some 30 years. to see brunelleschi (and with preziosi’s face) on tv, well that was special. personally i was really proud. that was florence, montepulciano, tuscany, lazio, finally celebrated. and not much cgi.i hate cgi.
  • the story. again i should remark how rare it is for rai to make a show like medici. we produce a lot of historical fiction, as we should because we have excellent costumes, but we usually make it about fictional characters or we whitewash historical ones, overromanticizing their lives, erasing their ambitions and their flaws and their gray areas. if we’d done cosimo’s story some ten years ago we’d probably have written of a goody-goody guy ending up with a huge bank because he was fundraising to feed the poor and buy his wife some flowers and then just happened to have a fortune to share with a saintly pope. this story wasn’t romanticized, in fact it’s much less romanticized than it was, say, on the borgias, where cesare was only ever driven by his love for lucrezia.
  • the bad guys. antagonists in fiction are usually ugly and just plain mean. albizzi, on the other hand, was a very handsome man and even an ex boyfriend of cosimo’s, which created a nice, interesting dynamic between the two of them. i’m afraid that won’t be the case with the pazzi next year.
  • the flashbacks. they were kind of poorly made because the characters all looked exactly the same when supposedly 20 years younger, but flashbacks were a peculiarity of this show and i missed them when they stopped coming. following two plans of the story would leave me wondering just how the hell we’d ended up there.
  • the music. seriously i’m addicted to this ost, praise paolo buonvino. sometimes i even think i wouldn’t like the show this much if it wasn’t for its soundtrack. i feel so dramatic walking around the city with renaissance in my ears and i absolutely adore how the theme is kind of broken into pieces and spammed in various tracks throughout the series.

so yeah this is way too long but i’m happy i had medici and i forgot about trump for about 30 minutes. thanks.

Mob Psycho 100 Episodes 4-8 as narrated by an 11-year old

So I wish I’d had this idea when I first introduced my lil sis to MP100 because her reactions to anime she loves are fuckin hilarious and she’s jumped on the MP100 bandwagon as hard as I have lmao she customized a Littlest Pet Shop toy for me to look like Mob and she’s gonna try making Reigen because she knows he’s like one of my favourites (she’s too pure omg). So we watched episodes 4-7 last night and episode 8 just a little while ago but here’re her reactions to what happened in episodes 4-8. My dialogue is marked with an H and hers is indicated with a B.

The First Time (1/?)

Anime: Kuroko no Basuke
Pairing: Aomine Daiki x Reader
Rating: K
A/N: I may make this into a mini series with different characters. I got the idea from @anniecrow who wrote one for Kise. I’m already working on Kasa’s as we speak, and this is a story I’ve had uploaded on my DA since August.

The first time you noticed him was the day before school started. You had just transferred from [Country] and you were new to Tokyo. You happened to enroll in Tōō Academy as you heard they were famous for being one of the best high schools in the city. As you familiarized yourself with the area, you happened to walk by to see what appeared to be the basketball team practicing. Seeing you were familiar with the sport, you decided to check it out. When you reached the courts, you heard the squeals of girls as they watched with lovesick eyes. Frowning, you weren’t sure what the fuss was about and turned your attention to the game. One male stood out from the group of boys and you felt your [eye colour] eyes widen, practically soaking the image of the boy into your brain. He was tall, about a whole foot more than yourself, with a dark shade of blue hair. You assumed his eyes were the same shade, though you couldn’t tell from this angle and you hoped he wouldn’t direct his attention to you. His skin was tanned, contrasting with the rest of the players who had lighter skin. Despite not knowing who he was, the whispers from the group of girls made you irritated and completely uninterested.

Feeling annoyed, you continued on your way, the phrase ‘Generation of Miracles’ stuck in your head, whatever that meant. If this was all Tōō had to offer, you were in for a huge disappointment.

The first time he noticed you was on the first day of classes. He always hated homeroom as it was boring and he’d rather sleep than attend. Sadly, he always walked to school with Satsuki and she would harp on him if they were going to be late. When they reached the gates, she excused herself, saying she had to do some things before class began. Resting on his hand, Aomine continued to stare out the window, a frown on his features, oblivious to all the unwanted attention. Every girl was the same, always flocking around him because he was a prodigy in basketball. He didn’t understand how the rest of the Miracles could handle it. Especially Kise, who was a model as well as a member. All this unwanted attention was exhausting and annoying to deal with, and the only thing on his mind was basketball.

At least until you walked in the class.

He saw your reflection through the glass and as much as he hated to admit it, you were beautiful. Your [hair length] [hair colour] hair flowed down your back, a few bangs covering your [eye colour] eyes. Your face held a small frown, as you kept looking around the classroom, before looking at the schedule in your hand. You were definitely shorter than him, if he had to guess, you were at least a foot shorter and almost the same height as Satsuki. Aomine barely caught the whispers from some of the boys in the class about your figure, and he wanted to bash their heads in.

'Hot damn! Look at that chick! I didn’t know we had a girl like her in our class!’

'She has to rival Momoi-chan in the looks department. Though I wish her breasts were bigger.’

'Who needs big tits when she’s got a nice ass? That skirt is almost leaving nothing to the imagination.’

It was as though you were unfazed by their comments as you sat in the desk closest to the door. You didn’t even glance in his direction, which is usually the first thing all the girls did in the class. He saw you take your [favourite colour] phone out to quickly check the time before placing it back in your bag. Slouching slightly in your chair, he heard you sigh before you gently rested your head on the brown table.

'Hmm.. A girl who doesn’t even spare me a glance… You definitely have my attention.’

Fanfiction Writer’s Appreciation

So I’m late to the party, but I wanted to make a Fanfic writer appreciation post for all the writers on my feed that I appreciate so much. If I follow you and you write, and you’re not on this list, it isn’t because I don’t appreciate you, it’s because I have Mom Brain and I’m terribly forgetful. This is going to be long, so I’m putting it under a cut.

anonymous asked:

Could you do Jasper for the opinion on characters ask?

  • Do I like them/the way they were written?

Jasper is one of the best-constructed characters in the sagas. Almost everything about him was well hashed-out and planned. His presence in chapters added so much volume. Easily one of my favourite characters.

  • Do I think they got the attention they deserved? By author, by audience?

Absolutely not. Jasper was created with such extensive care and then sort of banished to the shadows. He was so complex and S.M. didn’t give him enough time in the spotlight, in my opinion. Luckily, readers love the everloving Hell out of Jasper, so all that detail into his character doesn’t die in vain.

  • Did they deserve better? Did they deserve worse?

He deserved so much better, better even than Alice. They seemed a strange pair to me, but we’ll get into that later. I think he deserved to be changed by someone like Carlisle, and he deserved an easier, less violent start in his immortal life. Even though his “upbringing” played a pivotal role in the shaping of his character, it’s difficult to see someone so sweet and so pure endure so much pain.

  • Best and worst qualities

His best quality is his compassion, which is usually overshadowed because compassion is Carlisle’s staple. He influences peoples’ moods when he senses they’re uncomfortable, without being asked. He eases pain, he boosts morale, and although he has the power to inflict suffering, he doesn’t do it. Worst quality: he fought for the Confederates.

  • Strengths and weaknesses

His strength is his willpower as well as his supernatural power. He has the most difficulty sticking with the “vegetarian” lifestyle, and still he places himself in heavily populated areas like the cramped halls of a high school because he is pushing himself through the pain to progress. He’s an incredibly skilled military strategist and fighter, and he has an extensive knowledge of patterns of violence. His weakness is his wavering control over his blood lust, even though it’s really only openly a problem when blood is spilled. He is a survivor.

  • One way I see their character botched in fanfiction

THE SOUTHERN ACCENT. If I see one more iteration of “Howdy-doo-da ma’am I reckon you could use an ice cold sarsaparilla please thank you ma’am howdy-doo-da-day” I will choke myself unconscious. His accent is not a defining part of his character. He would not wear a cowboy hat in modern day. He might say ma’am, but only because it’s still fully acceptable to do so in modern society. He is more often than not portrayed as this Southern Gentleman in all the worst, cliche ways.

  • One way I see them written well in fanfiction

He’s always very caring and gentle, which is excellent, and if the relationship with the reader is fresh he’s usually portrayed with the proper unfamiliarity/uncertainty toward a human companion. He’s a little stiff around them, you know?

  • Favourite part about them

He’s got such a big heart. I love his compassion, and I love that he has a very subtle and very powerful gift that he hasn’t used as a hostile weapon.

  • Least favourite part about them

Fought for the Confederates.

  • Opinions on their relationships (romantic, platonic, familial)

He and Alice are paired up and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why. All of the other couples have compatible traits; Carlisle and Esme are both compassionate and parental, both Edward and Bella have mind-related gifts, love music and literature, and are fiercely protective of those they love, Emmett and Rosalie are somewhat immature and all-or-nothing lovers, but then… Alice is into fashion and parties, and Jasper is a Civil War veteran who seems to dislike festivities? They love each other, sure, but I don’t know why. If Edward weren’t in the picture, I could see him in a more equal pairing with Bella. All other relationships seem to be in order; he respects his “parents,” he and Emmett get on fine, and he’s a nice guy to the humans… no matter how much they make him uncomfortable.

  • Opinions on their past

My son deserved better. He’s seen some shit, he’s stronger because of it, but my son deserved better.

  • Thoughts on their future

I can only see him improving, honestly. I can’t say much else, but he and Renesmee probably get on really well. They have similar temperaments, in a strange way.
