i wish i could do great things

anonymous asked:

I hate when I'm like equally hyperfixating on like at least two or more shows at the same time and I just feel torn because I want to like somehow watch them both at the same time but you can't do that. And while I'm watching one of them I keep thinking about how great it would be to watch that other thing. I usually enjoy the episode I see but it's just a bad feeling™ I wish I could just watch shows like other people, instead of having to wait until I'm properly obsessed with it :/

hhhh I feel. im inbetween hyperfixations right now so literally nothing holds my interest and everything is boring and it sucks 😖

Dearest Anni @misunderstd

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I hope you have a great day off work doing very You-ish things.

I wish you could have received the things i’ve posted to you, today, but I guess they’re gonna take a bit longer than anticipated.

Lots of love

“I see you eating whatever you want and not exercising” - Pants

Dear girl trying to get back in shape,

I know it’s hard. I know the hardest thing you may do all day is walk into the gym. I know how easy it is to want to give up and go eat Chicken McNuggets, but don’t do it. I know it feels like you work so hard and get no where. I know how frustrating it is to see that person across the table from you eat a Big Mac every day while you eat your carrots and still be half of your size. I know that awful feeling where you don’t want to go to the gym because you know how out of shape you are. Trust me, I know.

The important thing is you are doing something about it. I’m sure you get mad at yourself for letting your body get this out of shape, but life happens. You have made a huge accomplishment by not having a soda in over a month, and those small changes are huge. I understand how hard it is, I understand how frustrating it is to not see results and I understand why you want to give up. Being healthy and fit takes so much time. As much as I wish you could wake up the day after a good workout with the 6 pack of your dreams, that just isn’t the reality. If being healthy was easy, everyone would do it, and it wouldn’t feel so good when you got there.

Remember how last January your resolution was to get back in the gym and get healthy again? Think about how incredible you would look right now if you would have stuck with it. The great thing is that you can start any time, and you can prove yourself wrong.

Tired of starting over? Then don’t give up.

You are only as strong as your mind. You will get there one day. Just be patient and keep working.

A friend of a friend was commenting on her son’s spinner, and how “it seems so stupid, but if it helps, whatever!” and i really, really wanted to explain why it helps. because people thinking it’s “stupid” tends to get in the way of those of us who need these types of things being able to use them.

so i finally sat down and wrote this. and i figured i’d share it here, because some of you might not know why stim toys are great and crucial to a lot of people, or other “weird” things like rocking. and others might need a way to explain it to the people around them!

please let me know if you have any ideas about what else to add! here’s what i said to her:

I wish I could articulate what they do and why they help.

Some brains get very jumpy with certain kinds of sensory input – like fluorescent lights, ambient chatter, physically or psychologically uncomfortable settings, random super-loud noises like bells and alarms…

That can make it impossible to focus, to take in information (like what you’re reading or hearing), or create a ton of anxiety and meltdowns.

Certain people, like those of us with ADHD, or who are autistic, or both, have that type of neurology. And the great thing about it is that we also come with the built-in ability to counteract bad sensory input.

We can feed soothing, calming, positive sensory input to our brains to let us focus in jarring environments, or to prevent meltdowns, or to calm anxiety.

Depending on the person, that can come from rocking, from spinning one of these dealies, from humming, from nice textures, from clicking buttons, from chewing things or other sources of light comfortable pressure….

And the reason it works is that, for example with a spinner, it provides a pleasing, continuous, controllable, satisfying pattern and sensation that the brain can use to override all of the overwhelming external stimuli that we often can’t even articulate.

But for people who don’t like a particular stim, or who have a different neurology, it can seem completely baffling!!!

And so the downside is that a lot of us CAN’T use our self-soothing superpowers, because people think we look weird or are just fooling around or, generally, that it’s stupid.

So the more people who can understand that this is actually amazing, the better :D

Jikook fic recs masterpost

Hi everyone! So, as any jikook shipper, you all know that there is a variety of great fics, old and new, about our fave ship. I, personally, tend to like reading more about the new ones (not because the 2014 ones aren’t good anymore, but like, u know what i mean, dynamics of the ship changed).

So as someone who spends……. alot….. of their free time reading and writing fics, and as someone who’s been in the fandom for a couple months now, i tought it would be a good idea to write down here some of my faves for you, old shipper who thinks they’ve read them all, or new shipper who doesn’t know where to start :)

I’ll try to recommend complete ones for the most part, and recent ones, but you know…… some of ‘em are classics. Here are my personnal all-time favorites.

Let’s start ! (in no particular order)

* - awesome

** - extra-awesome

*** - life-changing

1. Constraint, by Harlot. ** One shot, 40k, complete. “Jungkook is young and he is more acquainted with confusion and poor-decision-making than he’d like to admit. Despite being only 19 years old, he sometimes argues that he’s been through and seen some shit. He is never sure where he’s going to end up and he’s not entirely sure what kind of future is waiting for him. He is often not sure of a lot but he is certain—absolutely certain—that he’s not gay.
Alternatively, a story in which Jungkook meets Park Jimin and doesn’t like him whatsoever. There’s just something about him… there’s just so much about him. Jungkook really can’t stand him. In fact, he can’t stand him so much he can’t quite seem to get him off of his mind.
” ((So this one is quite lengthy, i know, but totally worth it ! Jungkook is a real douche in the beginning, but his reactions are so believable and relatable that you forgive him instantly. Great caracterization. Smutty parts in the end.))

2. Loverboy, by gangbang. *** One shot, 9k, complete. “this much jimin’s figured out: sometimes, somehow, his words make people fall in love with him.” ((Okay so this one is my personnal favorite, if I had to chose from all the jikooks fics, and probably all fics of all ships of all times, this would probably win the 1rst place. There’s something about it. Magical realism. Ansgt. Incredible storyline and characterization. A+++))

3. More golden than a golden snitch, by arborescent. ** Series of 3 One shots. 4k for this one, complete. “Everyone knows that the first year Slytherin seeker Jeon Jungkook’s biggest fan is not from his own house but a third year Hufflepuff named Park Jimin.” ((Okay so another old one… but a true classic. This one is a series so be sure to read the 3 of them, aren’t long, but truly amazing. HP au, with a lot of misunderstandings, a tsundere jk, and a fluffy muggleborn jimin. Don’t have to have loved HP to read this.))

4. And back again, by novilunar. * One shot, 3k, complete. “Jimin wishes he could stay away from Jungkook.” ((Ok so this is also an old one BUT i had to link it cause i read it 4 times by now and it is  THE fic that started me into Jikook. Basically, Jimin doesn’t do one night stands, and thats all jk does. Jimin falls. Happy ending. Great writing. Good smutty parts. Love it.))

5. The Bet, by jonghyunslisterine. ** 11 chapters, 46k, complete. “Where Jeon Jungkook makes a bet that he can get the notoriously single Park Jimin to sleep with him by the end of the semester. Needless to say, things don’t go exactly as planned.” ((Okay, another old one, classic, that you probably already read. If not, then  d o   i t. Quite lengthy, but a safe bet. Great great great character development. Jimin is such a complex but lovely being and jk is such a douche but then gets it and it all goes well in the end. The jeonlous is gold. University setting, and jk’s concerns about school are so well written and so relatable. Great one overall.))

6. Flowertalk, by soranosuzu. * One shot, 3k, complete. “Jimin works in a flower shop and Jungkook is a delivery boy who drives a pastel pink van.” ((Tooth rotting fluff. Short and sweet, perfect for when you’re feeling for it.))

7. You’re ripped at every edge (but you’re a masterpiece), bykafeuka. * 3 chapters, 34k, complete.  “Jimin swore there was nothing worst than having Jeon Jungkook as a sergeant.(Or,In which Jimin was forced to enlist in military and he was under the sexgod Sergeant Jeon’s monitoring division and god, Sergeant Jeon really needs to stop being a douchebag)” ((Ok so this one is maybe not an ultimate fave, but it’s only b/c of the end. Overall, it’s great, tho’. Military AU. Sexual tension. JK is sexually frustrated and frustrating. JM is a rich boy. Both characters are douches. Loved the idea.))

8. One upon a time share, by namakemono. * 5 chapters, 32k, complete. “Jungkook is in desperate need of a vacation, but spending two weeks in Namjoon and Hoseok’s timeshare in Okinawa with his recently separated ex of three years was probably (definitely) not what he had in mind.” ((I don’t know why i like the ex trope so much??? anyone with me??? there isn’t enough of those. JK and JM broke up, but their friends are still friends. And want them back together. Oops. Love it.))

7. White T-shirt and Brown Timberlands, by Rose_gold715. ** One shot, 11k, complete. “Jimin is filing for divorce after eight years with Jungkook. He needs to let go, and yet, he wants to hold on a little longer.” ((Aaaaand another ex trope, but not really. Established relationship that doesn’t go well for a while, but happy ending. Original idea. Kinda angsty, and heartbreaking. Loved it.))

8. You’re a hard soul to save with an ocean in the way (but i’ll get around it), by namakemono (great author ok bye). ** One shot, 20k, complete. “Jimin has the whole ocean at his fingertips, but for some reason he can’t help but look up to where the humans are, and wonder what it’s like to be part of their world.(or: the Little Mermaid AU that no one asked for)” ((Ok so now move on to something a lil’ fluffier. I DID NOT KNOW HOW MUCH I WANTED A LITTLE MERMAID AU. But i did. Jimin w/ red hair. Rich boy JK that has to take care of him. Funny and cute. A little jowel of a fic.))

9. You Don’t Bring Me Flour, by superbroc. * One shot, 3k, complete. “In order to graduate, Park Jimin must convince cute grocery cashier Jeon Jungkook that this sack of flour is his beloved child.” ((Soooo funny. Happy and fluffy. Great when you’re in the mood for something lighter.))

10. Let’s play for keeps, bykaythebest. * One shot, 4k, complete. “Jimin plays games for the entertainment of the Internet. Poorly. In fact, his entire schtick seems to be entirely based on how terrible he is. JimJams tries. He rarely succeeds.” ((Youtuber AU. Funny. A lot of Pining. What’s there more to ask.))

11. A touch of sin, by pettey. *** 10 chapters, 102k, complete. “After his transfer to a quiet seaside town, Jeongguk was prepared to face a year of uneventful CID work, but found himself dealing with a series of strange murders instead.” ((ULTIMATE FAVE OF THE MOMENT. Last fic I actually read, yesterday, in the middle of the night. Terrible idea, ‘cause it’s so spooky. I’m not a fan of gore, so i was scared when i read the hashtags, but really there isn’t that much, and it’s so well written that you barely notice it. The story is so well written and plot-driven. It could litteraly be a book. The universe is so intriguing. Ghosts. Witchcraft. JK is a cop, JM is a witch, sorta. Weird murders happen, JM is suspected. Sexual tension. So soooo much sexual tension. Characters are amazingly written. Slowbuilt. The end is bittersweet, if you don’t like much of happy endings, you’ll love it, if you only like happy endings (like me), you’ll love it too. Also there’s smut. And amazing song recommandations.))

12. Nu ABO: A Memoir by Park Jimin, by decompositionbooks. ** 6 chapters, 34k, complete. “The world didn’t think it was necessary to give him a guide when it shoved all of these omega hormones at him, so here it is, Park Jimin’s handbook on dealing with heats, unrequited love, and Jeon Jungkook.” ((You kids are so lucky to be able to read this fic in one go. I had to wait for every chapter. E v e r y   o n e. I know not all are fans of ABO dynamics, but try this one, please. It’s so good. Jimin is hilarious. Jungkook is emotionally constipated. Sexual tension. Jealousy. Great writing. A+))

13. Leave Your Mark, by snarcsics. *** 3/10 chapters, 49k, not completed. “The first time Jimin meets a gaunt, small beta boy named Jungkook in the examination room of Namjoon’s lab, he can’t seem to take his eyes off him. The second time he sees Jungkook it’s because he refuses to eat without him. The third time they meet, Jungkook is more teeth and claws than Jimin can handle.” ((OK SO I KNOW THIS FIC IS NOT COMPLETED. BUT LISTEN it’s worth it. Ohhh so worth it. Plus the author tends to finish all of her fics. Superd kind, replies to all comments. This fic is the beginning of a masterpiece. Not like any ABO. The plot is so great. The characterization is A+++. So much tension. So intriguing. JM is an omega. JK is a beta that will become an alpha artificially cause they are extinct. It doesn’t go so well. Please read it. Trust me on this one. You won’t regret it.))

So this is all of my ultimate favorite fics! I still have plenty I would like to recommend, but I figured too long posts annoy everyone. Tell me if you liked this list and if you would like me to do some others :) I was thinking about doing thematics ones, like fluffy, smutty, angsty… Tell me if that would be something you’d like!

If you have any fics to recommend me, please please please do so!

This fandom is great. This ship is great. Don’t forget to comment on the stories you read to encourage these fabulous authors!

Thank you for reading!

I learned many lessons from you treating me the way you did. But I just wish that for a moment I could go back to when I was naive and things were great and I could feel you love me and I could love you without fear and just pure pleasure. Because those days were some of the best days of my life and I miss you. I hope you’re doing better now and everything you have now was worth everything that we had. But what we had will always be valuable to me even if it’s not to you.

Hi Hiller- when I was younger I loved to draw. I'm an adult now and for some reason when I sit down in front of a piece of paper I don't know what to do. What advice do you have for a grown up who forgot how to draw?

Oooh that’s a tricky one. Sitting in front of a blank piece of paper is probably the most intimidating thing and has always been kind of scary for me. I’ve come up with a list of things for you to try to make drawing a bit easier.

A. Work on old paper/materials. End papers from discarded books, craft pads from second hand stores, a notepad from grandma’s junk drawer, a cool piece of wood you find in a dumpster, stuff like that. It takes away the pressure of having to create a perfect thing if the material you’re working on is already flawed or smells weird.

B. Draw a lot. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. Only a small fraction of things I draw end up being shared, maybe every one out of twenty things will be decent. What people don’t see is the heap of not-so-great things I create in the process of making that one thing. If you’re drawing different ideas all the time, and thinking of how to make those ideas better when you’re not drawing, eventually you will get better and the good ideas will come more easily and more frequently.

C. It’s incredibly hard to draw when you are overly prepared to draw. Sitting down with the intent to create a perfect drawing adds a terrible amount of pressure and is the thing that trips so many people up and makes it hard to even start creating in the first place. Draw informally, when you’re watching television or listening to music. Watch a movie and draw a picture of something you hear that would be interesting when taken out of context. Try to not think too much about it. Approach drawing from an angle, not head on, if that makes sense.

D. Finding your subject matter can also be difficult and may be what you’re actually talking about here. A few things influence the content of my drawings:

  1. Inspiration from the world around me. Other artists’ work, books I read, music, conversations I have while waiting to buy groceries, things like this.
  2. My feelings and internal dialogue, what I’m thinking about or am moved by or want to express to others. Daydreams, real dreams, imagined conversations are all good sources for drawing material as they are things that no one else would ever know about unless you expressed them.
  3. My ability as an artist. I am less of an M. C. Escher and more of a David Shrigley. You have to find the right spot on the infinitely wide spectrum of art in which you can create work that you like and you think is good. I like drawing amorphous shapes and faces and fun things, so that is where I’m currently situated. Agnes Martin drew lines and dots and is well known because she was super good at it.

Hopefully, at some point, 1, 2, and 3 will come together and allow you to create something that you consider great or good or even okay will do sometimes.

I think those are four good things to think about. The very beginning is the hardest part when it comes to making art, I wish we could all just skip it. Hopefully this will help you, and maybe others, get started again.

DA2 companions reacting to Varric's news that Solas is Fen'Harel?

Aveline: She sighs, heavily, running a hand over her forehead. “Maker’s breath. I thought Thedas was finally beginning to calm down… foolish, I know.” Her back straightens. “Well, if we all want to live, we better pitch in however we can. Give me updates on the Inquisitor’s progress. I’d say I would keep an eye out for even more suspicious activity, but that’s all there is in Kirkwall some days.”

Fenris: Of course Varric would meet none other than the Dread Wolf. Of course he would. Fenris’ blood boils as Varric tells him the whole story, and a creeping terror looms in his gut, his soul. Solas’ idea of bringing down the Veil is Fenris’ very worst nightmare. “He is a madman, a murderer, and a fool,” he snaps bitterly, “I hope the Inquisitor can find a way to stop him– let me know what they tell you about their progress. I will do everything in my power to help them stop him.”

Anders: He gets it, feeling burdened to do what they see as necessary for an ultimately better future, but his problem with Solas’ plan is that his madness will lead to no future at all, for the elvhen gods will ruin everything once freed. Varric scoffs at him as he says so, but Anders stands by his thoughts. He wishes the Inquisitor luck and wishes there was more he could do to help.

Sebastian: He’s shocked to find a letter from Varric– the dwarf hasn’t spoken to him or replied to any of his letters since he left Kirkwall. He knows things are bad if even Varric is writing to warn him about it. He’s hardly shocked at the truth of what the elvhen gods were, and pities the Inquisitor for such betrayal. He promptly sends a letter back to Varric, thanking him for the warning and promises to support the Inquisitor however he can. Above all, though, he writes that he will pray for them all. Varric declines to respond to his letter yet again.

Carver: He finds out from a letter when he’s up in Weisshaupt with his older sibling. “Because things couldn’t get worse, right?” he says bluntly, voice heavy with disgust. “I wish I could say I was shocked about this, but at this point… hey, brother/sister, send a letter back to Varric telling him to sign us up for whatever the Inquisitor’s doing to stop that rat bastard elf. They need a sword, they’ve got one.”

Bethany: Like Carver, she finds out from a letter Varric sends to her older sibling, and she heaves a great, despairing sigh. “Of course he knew the Dread Wolf that Merrill talked about. Can’t the world just calm down for a few years?” she asks aloud. “Brother/Sister? Tell Varric to tell the Inquisitor we’ll help if they need us.”

Isabela: “We’re fucked.” she utters dryly as she signals for another drink. “We’re so fucked.” She doesn’t know that they have much of a chance of stopping Solas, but when Aveline asks her if she’s going to lie down and accept it, Isabela scoffs. “I never said that. I think the chances that we’re up shit creek without a paddle is extremely high, but you don’t ever go down without a fight. Varric, tell the Inquisitor if they need a ship, I’m available for whatever.”

Merrill: She doesn’t want to believe any of what Varric’s just told her, but she knows Varric wouldn’t lie to her, not like this. The whole of the matter has sent her reeling, and she excuses herself to try to make heads or tails of the situation. Varric sits with her as she sobs, the truth unveiled.

Fen’Harel,” she gasps as it all sets in, “oh, Varric, this is bad. This is very, very bad! God or not, he’s going to trick so many elves into following him. Oh, dear, this is terrible; he’s going to destroy everything in his madness! What are we going to do, Varric?” she asks in a whisper, shaking. “The Dread Wolf won’t ensnare me, but he will fool many others! Creat…” She stops, throat suddenly dry, and she sobs into her hands. “Do you know what’s going to happen, Varric? People are going to turn on us because they’ll think all of us are working with him!” Her eyes harden. “He’s doing that on purpose to make us work with him! Well, I won’t! Not now, not ever!”

(this is my first masterpost sorry if it’s bad) A bullet journal has a lot of uses. A planner, homework reminders, to-do lists- but understandably, some pages could use a little of inspiration. And what better inspiration than from artists? Even without a bullet journal, quotes can be a great thing to decorate journals, your room, etcetera. So, I’ve compiled a list of quotes (some aren’t very motivational) by some of your favorite artists!

“My parents are gross...ly in love” - Bruce Wayne x Reader (x batfam)

Hi ! I see you all the time in my notifications, liking my stuff, so thank you very much for that @xsxaxjxax, and thank you for the compliment as well !! Here’s your request, I don’t know if it’s any good but hope you’ll like it ! (Oh also, #3.being sickeningly affectionate with each other SOMEWHAT A BIT NSFW) :

_______________________________________________________________________

You heard them coming in, but you couldn’t care less. And given the fact that your Bruce was still kissing you, he obviously didn’t give a damn either.

It was too perfect to stop. You rarely had time where things could be like that.

Your husband had a day off, and you called in sick just to stay with him, the occasion too good to pass on. You had a wonderful morning together, staying in bed late, enjoying each other’s presence, talking about anything and everything, making love a lot. When you finally got out of bed, you didn’t bother to dress nicely as usual. You both just put on sweat pants and a hoodie, and, hands in hands, went to get your late breakfast.

Your sons were there, and when they saw the both of you coming in, giggling like idiots because their father was tickling your sides lovingly, they all sighed. Oh, that was one of those days uh ? One of those very rare days where you and Bruce didn’t have to worry about anything because things for once went alright, one of those very rare days where you’d almost turn into conjoined twins because you wouldn’t let go of each other for a seconds. One of those days where you grossed out your children on a regular basis.

Representation: Make Your Own, Vote with Your Wallet

Here’s a comic that I drew up to explain my grievances with these counter-arguements I’ve seen popping up. I’ll write more in text here.

I don’t want to stop anyone from making their own games. Making games is a hard, incredibly rewarding creative task, and you should never stop making games, ever. You want to see a game that is totally your thing, your own brainchild go out into the world for people to enjoy? Do it. Make that game, and share with the world more culture than ever before. There is nothing stopping you from making your own game except time and effort.

But one person’s games, that’s just one voice in a million. As a gay person (and I cannot speak for anyone else but my own gay self), I grew up without any gay protagonists, with the constant background radiation of “Straight Is Normal”. Every romance, every love interest, every single character who wasn’t a joke or a villain, straight. I couldn’t share a part of me that was vitally important to me, and nobody knew what being gay meant, since there were no positive gay characters in the media we were consuming. If I made a game with a gay main character, that would still be one game in tens of thousands. It wouldn’t reach a wide audience, and there wouldn’t be the presence in media that is sorely required. I would need to have a marketing campaign, and millions of dollars I don’t have to reach the audience who really needs this representation.

Because this isn’t about one game, this isn’t about any particular game. This is about culture in general. Children will grow up playing straight leads and create straight leads in their own games. They won’t think “Hey, maybe I should make this lead gay” because that’s not what they grew up playing. We imitate what we’ve learnt, and we create building blocks with which we craft stories. The gun toting veteran soldier is always male, the princess who needs saving is always female, the hero is always straight and always gets the girl.

But what if we made sure that wasn’t the case? What if the hero had a gay love interest, what if the princess was a dude, what if the gun toting vet was a lady? What if we explore these avenues, construct a more complex narrative and not just rehash the same narratives we ourselves played as children?

We shout loudly for this to happen, decry wasted opportunities because we need to. Because if we don’t bring it to the attention of the people making the games, nobody will. We cannot remain passive consumers - “only play the games you like” only counts if there are games that represent us - and if there are parts of those games we find hurt us, we can still love those games and recognise the hurtful bits. I do not want to boycott games with problematic elements - that will ensure only bad games get made. How do you make money speak the necessary things we have to say?

(As a footnote, I will explain how money talks. Money is a language all of it’s own, and it is a very simple language. If you give someone money for doing something, you are saying “I support the thing you are doing”. If you do not give them money, you aren’t really saying anything, as it could be anything from “I don’t support this at all!” to “Eh, I wasn’t invested enough to lay down money” to “I wanted to support you, but I couldn’t.”. Now, if someone made a really really good game, but it had an insulting or degrading depiction of your group inside it, and you really liked the game, would you buy it? Would you not buy it? If you bought it, you are supporting the status quo - they will continue to do anyway. If you didn’t buy it, they might think “Wow, we need to not do a game like this ever again” and not even consider that the problematic elements were the problem. Money is too crude of a language to get this across.)

So, we are left with the only avenue that is viable for us: Actual Dialogue and Critique. Where we are free to say “I really liked this game, but it had problematic elements in it”, and discuss the things that went wrong in the game. Now, critique is not the same as censorship. With censorship, you remove the media from the public’s eye as soon as possible, so that their eyes are not offended by it. I do not want this. I cannot stress enough that I do not want this. Censorship is a regressive and counterproductive tactic, which does not help us learn from our mistakes and missteps. If we censored every piece of art that had mistakes, we would stagnate.

Critique, on the other hand, is the honing of skills and behaviour through discussion of the implementation of such behaviour. Just like an artist can recieve critique on anatomy,a writer can recieve critique on representation. A poor artist draws what they think something looks like, a poor writer writes what they think something acts like. And just like a poor artist can avoid drawing body parts they have no skill in drawing, a poor writer can avoid including people they know nothing about. Representation is simply another way we can improve the quality of our games - with proper representation comes richer, more varied casts.

I want to stress again that critique is forward thinking, not backward thinking. When we say, say, that Assassin’s Creed: Unity has four identical white males and that’s boring and samey - it is a critique of the game itself. It is a flaw that perhaps Ubisoft can learn from, and if we didn’t point it out, they would be none the wiser about it. Ignoring flaws is just as bad as censorship - both ways we learn nothing about it. Would you like to see a game industry filled with nothing but grizzly Doom Marines? If nobody pointed that out, the industry would blindly make more Doom Marines, because that’s what would sell. But once we’ve pointed out the samey Doom marines, or the four white lads, future games can be made that have an eye to this critique, and it can only benefit everyone. Sure, there will still be problematic games, but we are only human, and we are still allowed to enjoy those games. But I think the game industry can be better, and it needs to be told where it is going wrong. Those games that it creates, they will still exist for you to enjoy. They will always exist, and they will be fun.

I know you want creative freedom, and I do too, but the industry makes a profit from creating games geared with marketing and not just a little cynicism. By having better representation, we open up avenues for more voices, more varied creators to have their say, not just the ones that “sell at the moment”, as executives, the ones that are really in charge of the creative decisions, are a frightened and conservative lot. If we show them that no, we won’t stand for this lack of representation, they will have to reconsider their cynical and conservative marketing avenues. And we can’t do this by money alone. Money can only take us part of the way there, and for the rest of it, the vast majority, we need…

REAL FUCKING DIALOGUE.

I bet even some of you out there are still skeptical, like, why do we even need better representation, games are fine as they are. I’m not here to tell you that you can’t enjoy games. I’m not here to tell you that games aren’t important, or aren’t art, or should be a lame minority rainbow, or that all games should be Captain Planet and the Planeteers, where social consciousness is the deal of the day, all day, every day. I think that would be terrible. But what I do want? I want gay heroes to be just as normal and ordinary as straight heroes. I want black heroes to be unnotable and accepted. I want female heroes, I want trans heroes. I want characters that stick in people’s minds as normal. There is no “Special Snowflake Patrol” wanting to make every hero be an intersection with every marginalised group.

I just… want to be normal. I don’t want to have to shout, or campaign, or point out Straight White Male Protagonist #6753 as being yet another wasted opportunity.

I want to be normal. I want to be able to walk down the street with my boyfriend, holding hands, without people recalling all the regressive stereotypes that they have seen in the media and informed themselves about my sexuality.

I want to be normal. I want to be the hero sometimes, I want to be the villain sometimes. I want great gay romance, I want terrible gay romance.  I want to pick up a straight-to-DVD animated movie and sometimes see gay characters just existing, being gay, without it being notable or anything.

But that will never happen if I just make my own media and just passively consume the media that most closely fits me. Not existing in media I enjoy is not good enough for me. I refuse to be a passive consumer. This solution needs

DIALOGUE.

And if we need to get a little loud to be heard over the roar, well, that’s just what we’ll have to do. Why not join in, so that we can fix this problem sooner, and we can all rest and enjoy making our own games, while enjoying games made by teams of people with far more money than we’ll ever see in our lifetimes? After all, it must be great to see a big budget game with a romance that you can connect with. I wish I could play one!

And even though I’m gay, and not a person of colour, female, or transgender, I still want them to feel the same thing I’m striving for. That’s what equality is all about. I’ll help them, they’ll help me, and if you help as well, to strike up dialogue, to critique, to discuss and deconstruct, we’ll get there.

We’ll get nowhere just passively consuming. Let us

TALK.

You Love Me Really - Peter Parker

A/N: Just a short one people :)

“You are an absolute IDIOT!” You said storming into Peter’s room.

He was sitting on his bed with ice held up to his face and he looked at you innocently.

“Oh don’t look like that!” You continued. “Do you understand how worried I’ve been!? A week a ago I was told that my best friend was Spiderman! Which naturally increased my concern for them because death is permanent, Peter, do you understand that? People are out to kill you!”

Peter just pursed his lips and continued to stare at you.

“So when I hear, not from him may I add, that he is going to Germany with Tony Stark then I put two and two together and realise that he must have a death wish because he could have got killed! The Avengers are dangerous! That’s their job - to kill things! So when I hear that you are fighting half of them I can’t even believe it! What happened to the clever Peter Parker, huh?”

You waited for Peter to say something, but like before you got nothing. You sighed.

“Who gave you that?” You asked in a more calmer tone pointing to his black eye.

“Captain America.”

“Great.” You said sarcastically, sighing. “I hate you. ”

“You love me really.” Peter said.

You shot him a look.

“Do you know how worried I’ve been? And I haven’t been able to tell your Aunt exactly what you were doing because then I would have to tell her you are fricking Spiderman, Peter! And I can’t do that to you.”

“I’m sorry.” He said sincerely. You could tell by how he was looking at you that he was.

“Okay I’m done and sorry too.” You said closing your rant. You moved to sit on the edge of Peter’s bed.

“I am fine really.” Peter justified. “And they would not have killed me. They weren’t out to kill each other.”

It was your turn not to say anything now.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?”

“Not really.”

“You are an idiot though.” You said laughing lightly.

Peter smirked.

“So what exactly happened?” You asked.

Peter started to relay the events to you: who was there, who was on what team and why, who fought who etc.

“Don’t think I’m not proud of you though.” You said after Peter had finished.

“Proud? Why?”

“Well Tony Stark clearly needed your help and you were able to hold your own, yes?”

“I guess I did.” Peter said sitting up a little straighter.

You laughed softly.

“Of course you did tough guy.” You said and kissed him on the cheek. Instantly you stood up and crossed the room to the door.

You grinned as you opened the door and watched Peter just stare at you in surprise.

You poked your head round the door to say, “You still owe me one though. Don’t forget that.”

You winked and left, leaving Peter Parker speechless behind you.

Another one-shot I wrote for @flames-bring-a-ton-of-ash‘s second Writing Challenge. I honestly have no idea where I found the courage to actually post this, but there you have it, some priest!Negan smut… With a twist.

Synopsis: Father Negan, the new priest in town, sparks the interest of Angelica, a girl who used to live there and is back only for the weekend.

Warnings: cursing, blasphemy galore, major priest kink, spanking, sliiiight name calling, unprotected sex.

The sun was starting to set as Angelica pulled her ash blonde hair up into a tight bun and applied a thin layer of colorless lip gloss over her rosy lips.

She was staying at her aunt’s place for a few days and couldn’t believe her younger cousin Maria had persuaded her to go to church with her. There wasn’t much to do in this small town anyways, so she’d agreed to join her for evening mass, despite the fact that she couldn’t remember the last time she’d been in the presence of a bible.

anonymous asked:

Hi! I'm currently writing a story in which the protagonist is blind. The story is set in a fantasy world, and I've found that it's difficult to find advice on how to write a blind character in a fantasy setting. Most articles I stumble across are about blind characters in the modern world. Do you have any tips on writing a blind fantasy character? I want to make sure my story doesn't sound super ridiculous (a huge part of the plot is that she can kick ass).

This is actually a topic that sits quite close-to-home with me. I’m not blind, however, I’m partially sighted. My left eye has no sight, and have reduced vision in my right. I don’t know things from a blind person’s perspective, but I’ll do my best from what I know and what I would do.

Descriptions

If you are writing this story from a first-person perspective then you will need to think a novel way to include descriptions of your world. It’d actually be quite interesting, relying solely on sounds and the imagined landscapes of your protagonist. If they have not always been blind, then you could include things from that perspective too.

Also, you must do a lot of research into how blind people cope doing simple every day tasks. A lot of tasks will be the same in a fantasy world as they are in a modern setting: getting dressed, washing pots, etc. But also blind people who, say, take archery classes or anything like that. A lot of cool RNIB groups take blind people out for activity days where they might do a lot of things your protagonist might end up doing.

Research How Blind People were Treated in Different Cultures

A lot of fantasy draws upon different cultures laws, traditions, etc, and plays with them to create a completely different world.

Add a lot of historical cultures, too. Because in the modern day many cultures are bound by the UN and Geneva Human Rights conventions, but some practises, right or wrong or simply tradition, might have gone on beforehand.

Here’s some to start you off;

The Human Condition is Still The Human Condition

I’ve often heard it said about fantasy and sci-fi that, all though the worlds are different and strange, the characters must be human. (Well, unless they are aliens—that’s another topic.) But they must feel things, think things, work things out. And, all though your protagonist lives in a world that’s not like our own, they will still no doubt have a lot of the same feelings. Especially if they are young. I don’t know how old you are going for here, but here’s some things that really effected me as a partially blind person and some people I knew from various projects who were actually blind.

Being independent: A lot of us really wanted to be independent above all else, even when it made things harder for us. I was offered the chance to do exams in a separate area and be able to leave when I was done but I wanted to do them in the Hall and have to sit there for hours. We had teaching assistants who sat with us and most of us used every opportunity to ditch them or go without, half to prove we can do things by ourselves but half so we could join in.

Joining in: This brings me happily onto my second point. A lot of that first point was solely just to be able to join in. Yes, in the modern day it’s more of a… ‘Man, I was I could play games well,’ thing, but in a fantasy world it might be some great Tourney or Hunt, or simple childhood games in the woods that the protagonist wishes to join in with.

More than bullying, it was the people who tried to tell me I couldn’t do anything that hurt me. Bullies got told off sometimes, or came and went, but people like my mom or teachers saying what I couldn’t do; that sticks.

TL:DR: It’s the circumstances that change, not the emotions.

Avoid The Badass Blind Monk Who Can Kick Your Ass Trope

Yeah, unfortunately being blind can be a problem. As a half-blind person myself, and knowing how lucky I am to have any sight at all, I do find it annoying the amount of blind characters who seem to only be blind so that the audience can be amazed when they start pulling off amazing martial arts moves, or knowing exactly where things are to pick up, etc.

This isn’t to say your character won’t be able to learn martial arts, or maybe some magic that helps them with placement, etc. That’s fine. But please include drawbacks of actually being blind, things that blind readers would identify with and that readers with sight would learn a lot from.

For example, yes, it can be quite scary, when you are alone, and you can’t open your eyes. You don’t know who’s around you, friend or foe or terrifying monster. The protagonist never has to admit their fears or problems to others if that’s their character, but they can admit them to themselves. And, in that way, they can hopefully overcome them, too.

Finally, It’s not the best movie ever, but I’d also give The Village a watch, especially the scene in the forest. It handles the protagonist being blind quite well in that regard. But you’ll need to try and read some books that describe the situation, too.

So this just popped into my head.

Adrien is doing homework in the library, where a few students are doing there homework, or whatever (Marinette is not present)

As Adrien is doing work, he over hears people talking about Ladybug. Of course he is intrigued and silently listens to the people.

Most of the stuff is praise, like, “isn’t she great” “She is so cool” stuff like that.

Adrien smiling thinking, ‘Yeah, my lady is amazing.’

“I wish I could date her” one of the guys says.

Adrien gets naturally protective and is ready to go over there, but stops after hearing what one of the girls in the group said.

“I hate to disappoint you, but I heard she isn’t into guys.”

“But what about Chat noir? Aren’t they a thing?”

“They don’t really do anything couple like. Honestly there is no other explanation. If I was her, I would definitely be dating that handsome cat.”

Adrien is now just confused. Thinking hard about it. The only time she didn’t flinch away from his flirts was when he looked like Reflekta.  So of course his mind starts thinking hard about this.

He decides to ask the only person who could maybe know more about Ladybug.

He finds Alya by her locker.

“Oh, Hey Adrien. What’s up?”

“You know a lot about Ladybug right?”

“Is Ladybug’s costume red with black spots.” She responds sarcastically. “Yes, I know a good amount about the heroine of Paris. What do you want to know?”

“Well… Do you know if she interested more  in guys or girls?”

Alya is ready to respond but then stops herself. Realizing she has no idea.

“I… I don’t know. I never asked in any of the interviews. What brought this question on?”

“Was there anything about Ladybug during your interviews that made you think she preferred one or the other?”

Alya began thinking hard about it.

“Well, She is always eager to answer my questions, ignoring other reporters. And has even given me personal interviews. Never any other reporters, just me.”

Alya and Adrien both begin to speculate that Ladybug has a crush on Alya.

“Your the Lois Lane to her superman!”

Alya starts freaking out (since she and Nino are a thing, But if she was single we totally know Ladybug would be allowed), and Adrien is feeling heartbroken that the woman he loves plays for the other team.

So next akuma attack, Ladybug and Chat noir are taking down the akuma. Chat noir isn’t doing any flirting at all, which makes Ladybug curious.

After the battle, Ladybug asks him what is wrong.

Chat noir sighs and said that he knows that she is in love with someone else and no matter what he can’t change it.

Ladybug is surprised. Horrified that Chat noir figured out she was in love with someone.

“H-How did you know?”

Chat then says “I didn’t realize it at first. But having really thought about it, noticing the signs. I realized that it was obvious.” Ch

“I am sorry Chat, I didn’t want to hurt you. You are a nice guy, and a great friend. I have been keeping it a secret for a while.”

“It is okay Ladybug, I can’t imagine how hard it is to keep it a secret. I think you should admit your feelings. Ill support you no matter what and I will keep it a secret until you are ready.”

Ladybug hugs the cat. And then Chat then says.

“I won’t tell anyone that you have a thing for that Ladybloger.”

Ladybug’s mind just short circuits.

Part 1 of Letters From the Dead

Jensen had just gotten home the day before and was currently using his first full day home to spend time with his family. He missed them when off filming, or off at cons. Sometimes they’d join him, but JJ was getting older, and when she started school, that would happen a lot less.

Laying on his back, he was holding JJ’s hands in his as he had her up in the air, laughing. He was holding her up with his feet, despite the fact that it was getting harder to hold her up. “Okay, kiddo.” He chuckled, lowering her down slowly.

The sound of the doorbell made him glance up before getting off the ground. As he stood, JJ wrapped her arms around his neck for a piggyback ride. He held her up with her legs at his waist. She laughed as he jogged towards the front door. “Weee!”

Reaching the door, he slowed down, letting out a breath. He opened it and was confused when he was met with a woman in a suit. “Can I help you?” Jensen asked, moving JJ off his back.

Daneel was walking down the stairs when she heard the confusion in his voice. Wondering who was at the door, she moved towards the front. Just as she turned the corner, the woman spoke up. “My name is Linda Ramos.” She began with a small smile, holding out her hand that wasn’t holding her briefcase. “I’m here on behalf of the will of Y/M/N Y/L/N.”
