Bird Emoji Review

My dude @zaplayden and I couldn’t find a review of the Bird emoji so let’s do this

Pure evil.  Excessive gradients only intensify his evil intentions. There is no sweetness in this child of darkness. 0/5

This is a pure, sweet boy. Absolutely perfect bird child. 5/5

Ancient bird friend of legend. A little stiff and out of touch, but a very reliable friend.  4/5 I would trust this fellow.

A lumpy bean friend. Kinda smells funny. Vacant stare. He’s a good boy, but needs some vacation time.  3/5

Pure intentions, but this boy looks confused. Where is he? Let him go home. Also kind of looks like he’s made of marshmallows??? 4/5

Imposter. 0/5  This is a blue fire with yellow lipstick. Stop this. He’s smug about about it too, wtf.

I have high hopes for his future. He is a good boy with good intentions. I would trust this young man. 5/5

A clumsy boy. Something is a little weird about this bird, but he still tries his best. A good friend. 4/5

An eager boy. He wants to fly but needs more practice. I support his dreams and I hope he achieves great things. 4/5

Paranoid fellow. Blames everyone else for his bullshit. Will never find love. 0/5

Eager to impress.  Might be a double agent. A handsome boy, but I do not trust him. 3/5

The world does not deserve this kind of purity. 5/5

The Fall Outs and Fly Offs of Confessions

When Lena confesses her love to Kara, Kara thinks ‘this is it, I’ve ruined another friendship by not loving them back.’

Because she knows that she likes guys, even if she hasn’t liked the ones she is friends with.

And when Lena stops by less and less, when Jess the receptionist tells her “this is actually a really important meeting” more and more, Kara is crushed.

So it’s isn’t until she brings it up to Alex and Maggie at the bar after a bit of alien ale, that she remembers.

“Well, actually,” Maggie says gently, one hand resting on her sister’s arm, “you technically could like girls too. Not that you do, but ‘I like guys’ isn’t really an argument. Has to be that you don’t like the other thing.”

Kara wants to be able to quickly say ‘well, I don’t’, but she hasn’t really thought about it. She came to Earth just as she was beginning to experience romantic feelings, and Earth has always made it seem like boys were the only option. She didn’t feel anything for any humans when she landed. They were too different, and she had too much going on.

In fact, other than celebrity crushes, when has Kara experienced feelings for anyone on Earth?

Have I loved anyone?

Oh. Yes, of course, she remembers.

On Krypton.

She had crushes on many people, just before it died.

As Kara cycles through the people she had a crush on, a boy from her lessons, one who lived across from her, a flash of long, jet black hair, the blue sun of Casador and a girl whose family was in the same tourist group as hers enter her mind.

She leans back suddenly. Alex and Maggie are mildly startled.

“I like girls.”

She stands up, knocking against the table and nearly spilling all of their drinks.

Alex and Maggie are thoroughly startled.

Kara stares at them intensely, not really seeing them. They exchange a quick and confused glance.

Kara practically flies into the ceiling.

“I like Lena!”

Kara heads immediately for the door, almost crashing into a yellow fella, a table, and the waitress trying to clean it up, before she finally just super speeds out of there.

They laugh and Alex reluctantly pulls out ten dollars and hands it to Maggie.

“I bet they’re together by the end of the week.”

Alex shakes her head. “Today.”

“You’re on, Danvers.”

(okay so just as a brief note, i was originally going to make this ref more fancier and cleaner like my Lapis redesign, but because i ran out of motivation to do this (while at the same time wanting to get this done and out of the way so i can move on to other things I’ve been wanting to draw), i just sorta rushed drawing this and i made this into a much simpler ref. so i apologize if this looks pretty bad ;o;)

lately I’ve been seeing a lot of redesigns for some of the SU characters (esp. for Lapis and Pearl) but I haven’t really seen a lot of Peridot redesigns floating around, so I decided to make one myself!

so I’ll go ahead and talk about my thoughts that went into this redesign under the cut:

You had grown up in a world of black and white. Color was unknown to you, but you remembered how your parents described colors to you to make you feel a little better.

Red is like fire. You know when you feel angry or frustrated? It’s like that. It’s hot and bold and angry.”

“Yellow is warm, bright and friendly. It’s the color of the sun, love. Makes you feel like someone wrapped you up in a blanket on a cold day.”

“Blue is the color of water. It’s cool. It’s cold. I think you’d like it quite a lot.”

This wasn’t abnormal. You wouldn’t get to see the colors your parents’ got to see until you met your soulmate. You knew it would be a long time until then, but hearing your parents describe the colors to you was enough for the time being.

I was wondering if you could explain how you turned green to yellow in this post: onceuponadaily(.)tumblr(.)com/post/159042753541 I can never seem to get it to change properly. If not that's okay it's a very pretty set. Thanks :)

Of course! It’s actually super easy to do. It’s all in the selective colors. Below the cut is the steps I took to go from green to yellow to orange to pink.

Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys coined the term “imperial phase” in reference to that point in an artist’s career when they have completely captured the zeitgeist and can do practically nothing wrong.

Being familiar the concept of the “imperial phase” makes Coldplay’s 2008 song “Viva La Vida” (but especially Lady Gaga’s cover of it) all the more interesting.

Although I know very little of Coldplay, I do know that “Viva La Vida” was released well into the band’s career and biggest successes. The song contains many biblical references and looks back to a time when the narrator “ruled the world”. It’s not a stretch of the imagination to consider that the song may be a reflection upon Coldplay’s own “imperial period”, which lasted sometime around the worldwide success of the single “Yellow” and the release of their 2005 album “X&Y”.

What makes Gaga’s cover of this song most interesting is that she covered it in 2008, shortly after the release of “The Fame”. Gaga’s “imperial” period lasted from this time until the release of “Born This Way” in early 2011.

Gaga’s cover of “Viva La Vida” is in my opinion more musically interesting than Coldplay’s. It’s a live cover, and in the original unedited version she laughs and fumbles with the lyrics several times. It is truly the mark of an “imperial phase” that Gaga could be so charming and interesting even while screwing up the lyrics of a just-released hit.

It is now 2015 and Gaga’s imperial phase has come and gone. Her career suffered from overexposure and a severe case of hubris, leading to bad press and sliding record sales. Public opinion has changed as of late, and her career seems to be on the upswing, but it will never be the same as that time when she was talked about in every newspaper, beloved by hipsters and teenyboppers, and copied by every girl in the pop world. Gaga’s imperial phase was truly a special moment in time.

Now, for some personal reflection.

I was turning 18 when “Viva La Vida” and “The Fame” were released, and just entering university. I finally felt free to be myself and express who I was: a weird, artsy girl with a lot of opinions and crazy outfits. I also learned just how much I loved partying. I finally had friends! And we all loved Gaga. We went out every night and still made it to class. We got dressed together. We fell asleep on each other’s couches. My life felt truly… fabulous. Gaga and I shared the same imperial phase.

Now, as a post-grad in a university town, I feel much like the narrator of “Viva La Vida”. I remember when the world was mine to conquer, but now I just serve the university students and their friends, trying to scrape by while they party. I can still remember when my friends and I would shut down the clubs. There’s a pretty sad story behind the rise and fall of my imperial phase, but it’s better not to go into it.

When Lady Gaga ruled the world, I felt like I did too. Here’s hoping we both have a comeback.

Ok but haggar tho

SPOILERS S2 VOLTRON:

Okay, ever since it was revealed that Haggar was altean
*Insert allura’s surprised face too* - I have been so damn curious as to what she would look like;; so doodled some ideas?
(Lowkey reminds me of Prince Lotor uh-oh)

If I’m honest from all the bad dudes in Voltron, Haggar is one of the many who has caught all of my interest. What’s her backstory? Why is an Altean whose home was destroyed by the very man she is serving, with him?

But there’s no doubt I have some sort of theories or ideas?
I’m sure we can all agree that she has some sick ass powers; which led me to think:
1. Being Banished: What if back in Altea, Haggar was someone who was wise beyond her years and began dwelling in some sort of dark magic or even was trying to find a way to get quintessence faster for Altea (The whole stripping planets of it gig as seen in the show)- but King Alfor caught wind of it and told her to stop but she didn’t then was banished. Hence how she probably agreed to just destroy Altea with Zarkon.

2. Haggar ran away with Zarkon? I don’t know if you guys saw it but the scene where you see Zarkon unconscious:

You see Haggar standing by his side and watching over him, not to mention this specific scene

I ain’t gonna lie, this kind of hurt my heart- Maybe its stretch but.. From what I see it almost looks like she’s in Love with Zarkon??? I don’t know those don’t look like yellow eyes of just a mere Servant and Master, thing-o.
Maybe, when the Black Lion was being made she was present and had met Zarkon. Just falling head over heels for the Ex-Black Paladin.Only quiznaking thing is, Zarkon just whispered sweet nothings into Haggar’s ear after he found out about her skills and powers. Leading to her following him. So it’s just an unrequited love ))’:
That or, she was just like *sigh* “useless” nEXT.

3. Possible spy???? Seems like another big stretch seeing that she practically was ready to kill Allura..but it looks kinda like she’s been brainwashed?? After all her Altean marks, had turned into just lines like how here eyes are Yellow, like a Galran? Even using her shape shifting abilities that Altean’s are known for?

4. Mother of Lotor (PFFF): Kay this seems like another big stretch or just me making up a damn AU in my head LMAO- it’s just the drawings I drew of an Altean Haggar just reminded me of Prince Lotor. After all /cough I do ship Zarkon and Haggar (gtgtgtgtgtgtg)

I haven’t really come up with more but there’s no doubt that Haggar’s backstory is really interesting. There must be a bunch of things she knows- what was she like on Altea? She has worm-holed *finger guns* her way into my heart. I like Haggar. Mysterious Haggar.

Lapis Lazuli

Okay, so let’s talk about Lapis Lazuli. For all the time she’s spent on screen, I feel like there’s still quite a lot we don’t know about her. While Peridot would incidentally mention all sorts of details of Homeworld or her own past, Lapis deliberately stays silent (especially about Blue Diamond, for some reason). She looks out from behind a mirror, and people looking at her see only their own reflection.

We do know a few things about Lapis purely from her actions. For one, she cares about Steven, and wants to protect him. She knew he was a gem (asked him to return to Homeworld with her in Mirror Gem) but lied about that to Jasper (in The Return). She sent Steven a warning message, too. And she listened to him and wanted to stay near him after Same Old World. And she was prepared to break Peridot’s tablet in Video Chat. I’m reasonably confident that these actions reflect how she really feels about Steven, even if she won’t say as much.

And, of course, we have her actions in episodes like Jail Break and Alone at Sea. But I’ve talked about Malachite elsewhere, at length, so I won’t touch on that here.

But when it comes to the things she says, rather than the things she does, I start to doubt how honest she’s being. This is Steven’s “Beach Summer Fun Buddy,” after all. When her mask is up, what she’s saying may not be true, or she may leave out enough key points that it might as well be a lie.

That mask has cracked before, though, usually when she gets angry. It cracked in Room for Ruby, too.

When Lapis got frustrated with Navy, that was real frustration, albeit mostly directed at herself. She evidently has been trying to learn how to live on Earth, either because she’s resigned to her situation here, or because she thinks things will change for Steven at some point.

She’s having a tough time, because Earth has not been kind to Lapis. Of course, it’s also true that Lapis has not been kind to Earth (nor has she been kind on Earth, for that matter). But this is where she was trapped in a mirror for thousands of years. And it’s where she got caught up in a war, somehow.

Her loyalties are still not clear. She was never a Crystal Gem, but she wasn’t here to fight for Homeworld either. She had a job to do—some kind of terraforming, judging by YD’s song in That Will Be All.

Possibly she was here to make the Beta Kindergarten, although that would put her arrival some hundreds of years after the war started, rather than before it broke out. For context, I posted a while back that she could have been a kindergarten teacher. But then someone suggested that she could have made the Beta Kindergarten, so I went and found their mentioned post about Slot Canyons, and how they’re formed by flash floods. Food for thought.

Anyway, for now, she’s got a bit of a cease-fire going with the CGs, but she is still not on their side. She has spent a lot of time with Peridot, after their rocky start, but most of that time she spent just going along with whatever ideas and activities Peridot happened to come up with, or lying in her hammock. This was at least in part because she was afraid of what she’d do if she took control of things again, but it was never clear how much was honest willingness to learn about Earth, and how much was feigned enthusiasm for Steven’s sake.

But now we know that she actually has been trying to adjust to Earth, because she’s frustrated by how little progress she’s made (especially in comparison to Navy, who really is faking it). When she says she’s still struggling to accept the Earth, that’s consistent with her “joke” about the table in Gem Harvest, and it means that she has, up to now, been trying to hide those feelings from Steven and Peridot. But it also means that she was not entirely faking it. It’s a reassuring middle ground.

The hardest thing about Lapis is that we know so much about what happened to her on Earth, but so little about where she came from, or about where she’s going, plot-wise. At some point, we have to resolve her issues with the Crystal Gems (the show is good about letting tensions build, but there’s always a payoff), and with Earth in general. But I can’t even guess how that will happen, or what the consequences will be.

Lapis Lazuli has survived (and inflicted) deep traumas. She’s working through some of them, or at least has started trying. But without knowing who she was before Earth, we can’t know who she’ll be after it. Would she return to Homeworld, if given the chance? She’s the only gem on the show who has never talked about any of the Diamonds, not even Blue (who is, presumably, her Diamond). That can’t be a coincidence, but it only points to more secrets.

Overall, I’m glad to learn that the Lapis we see isn’t entirely feigned. And that she’s genuinely trying to become a better person, even though she has a long, long journey ahead of her on that front.

But I’m looking forward to finding out more about her, and putting all her actions in a larger context. Peridot had plans she wanted to present to Yellow Diamond, a way to use Earth’s resources without harming its organic life. I imagine Lapis could be the one to put that into practice. But will she want to?

Bara orc

A little bit ago a sketched up a muscley orc as a warmup, and liked it enough to try out some coloring practice with it. For this method instead of a single layer traditional painting style, I tried using multiple effect layers to see the difference! I used a flat teal green base, a multiply layer of base color for core shadows, an overlay with a blue shift for cool shadows, a soft light layer with a yellow shift for warmer light and pushed it for a much more yellow SSS effect, with a hard light layer with lower opacity for direct highlights, finishing it all off with a faint screen layer and another faint multiply layer, each to create a sort of detailed gradient effect to better show the direct light. Hope this little glimpse into how I make things is interesting, and the art too!

Dance With The Darkness

TITLE: Dance With The Darkness

CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 2: Nightmares and Daydreams

AUTHOR: ara-toa-min

ORIGINAL IMAGINE:

Imagine you were in a relationship with an incubus before you met Loki and you somehow managed to escape him. You and Loki steadily date for a while before he invites you to a ball where in a big grand performance, the incubus shows up saying “Miss me, cuz I missed you.” He kidnaps you and Loki vows to get you back.

Loki eventually does find you but you are back under the control of the incubus. Can he break you free?

RATING: Teen+

NOTES/WARNINGS:

The room was spinning. Too fast…way too fast for you. Clenching your eyes shut, you couldn’t help the whimper that escaped your lips as your feet finally touched down onto solid ground. Looking around, you realized that you were back in his domain. A large tent, accompanied by several smaller tents, littered the little oasis. You were back in the middle of the desert…back where no other could possibly hope to find you. You raised your head to stare up at the man who had abducted you from the ball.

Braxis smiled down at you, large pearly white teeth, compete with two fangs, shining at you. “Welcome home, Aşkim. It has been far too long since I have had you home with me.” He leaned towards you, trying to press a kiss against your lips. Quickly, you raised your arms up, pushing hard against his toned chest.

Starlight: Focus

Here is another scene of Starlight. It’s an on going Darkside Reylo AU I’m thinking of continuing on Tumblr. You can read Scene One  Scene three here.

Thanks again to my Beta @ns0241 for hearing me out and ironing out the details. I am in awe at the wonderful response I’ve gotten for Starlight. Thank you guys! I hope you enjoy this one. *More under read more*

“Again!” Kylo bellowed, voice distorted by the mask, as he dodged a large boulder she aimed at his head and he parried yet another blow from her practice electrostaff.

Rey’s eyes flashed bright yellow as she clenched her teeth in frustration. The dark side was strong in her, but she lacked the discipline and training to harness and channel that power.

It had been three months since Kylo rescued her from the clutches of his uncle and brought her with him. Three months since she became his apprentice. Three months of rigorous training of both physical and mental abilities. She was growing strong, but she was distracted from putting all her focus into training.

Kylo tried to figure it out. Their connection grew stronger everyday as they spent more and more time together, training and improving. Yet she kept her shield up, something she’d learned to do on her own. So there was no other way for him to figure out what kept her distracted. He tried to ask but whenever he brought up the topic, she would refuse to answer or resort to violence. It was frustrating and extremely inconvenient.

“You are not concentrating, Rey. Focus!” Kylo commanded her. He brought his saber down one more time to hit her right shoulder that she kept unguarded. She was quick this time, bringing the upper half of her staff just in time to parry his blow. She used the bottom half to swipe hard against his right knee. The staff zapped him as soon as it touched his body. Kylo growled and pushed her with his saber, still locked on to the upper half of the staff.

“That was better, sweetheart” he managed to say before she attacked him again, this time with the force. She shoved him back against the durasteel wall before using her staff to hit the side of his head with an unforgiving force. He dropped his saber, and realized he couldn’t move, as she held him against the wall with her power.

He knew he could break free, but that would probably infuriate her even more. She pressed her staff over his chest, putting the pressure of her body to it. She leaned in, her beautiful almond shaped eyes angry and wide. Her breath against his face, straight white teeth gritted. He was entranced by her gaze, dark eyes searching her bright yellow ones. He felt like his whole existence would unravel if he stared at them for too long.

“Don’t you ever dare patronize me, Kylo Ren!” she spat each word out.

She pulled back, but as he felt the pressure of her hold leaving his body, she turned around hitting the side of his legs. Kylo was off his feet and on his back in one clean sweep of her staff.

“I think I’ve had enough training for a day, master.  I would like to retire back to my quarters now,” she informed him over her shoulder, before returning her staff to its holder with the force and walking out of the training room.

Curious question, how come Yang is mostly portrayed in fanworks as the one who makes people question their sexuality? Is she supposed to be gay? Or she's just extremely beautiful? Or it's just a headcannon running joke in the fandom? I know this is a silly question but I wanna know since I'm new to this fandom.

yeah i think it’s because she’s the ‘Beauty’ of the team, as per Red Like Roses, so Even The Girls Want Her is probably in effect in a lot of fanworks for the purposes of shipping

and i mean of the cast, she is the only girl who has had two female opponents essentially flirting her - Neo, being practically coquettish and teasing and Neon’s blatant teasing and taunting and occasional compliments

and aside from one (brief and framed more as a joke than anything) instance in the first volume, and her deliberately flirtatious behaviour in the Yellow trailer in order to get information, she’s never expressed or shown any interest in any guys (and aside from one comment from Neptune, who would flirt with a table lamp if it was used to smack him in the face, no guys have expressed interest in her either) - and her flirty comments are reserved solely for Blake, with whom she has a very romantically coded dynamic (which is deliberately contrasted against Blake’s relationship with Adam)

so i imagine that helps
