my knees hurt, as usual, from scrubbing. technically i’m too high of Maid Station to help out with these things, but i like seeing what happens when you clean. the development of things. how a lot of effort can make something. i like learning and trying and working hard to get towards something.

and i’ve seen them, from the back of pillars, from behind cracked doors, from beside her (on the best days) the way they talk to her. oh beautiful won’t you just look at me. oh darling. if you speak i’ll be your prince. if you speak i’ll be your king. 

the princess, i know, finds the lines of suitors boring. it’s in the way her hands are always moving. she hides yawns, leaves early, we make her apologies. once, a man comes and tries to startle her into screaming. she rolls her eyes and looks directly at me. i have to hide my smile behind my sleeve. he is taken away while still screaming.

by accident, i find her once, crying. when we imagine princesses, they always cry daintily. hers is hoarse, angry, and something in it breaks me. in my station i should apologize and bow and leave. instead i am frozen, watching her shoulders heaving.

she looks up and spots me, her cheeks ruddy. i know i should go but instead i make a big show. i act as one of her princes. i make grand gestures and speak in deep voices. i frantically offer her handkerchiefs and trip over my own two feet. a smile crawls up over her, slowly. i dab my sweat away and offer her the used rag. i feign a fluster, turn a terrible cartwheel, make shadow puppets. the sound of her laugh, raw and rusty, sends shivers through me.

for a while, i do not see her after this. but then i am called to her chambers. she is crying again. i offer silly gifts, pebbles and dusting rags and a candlestick from her own kitchen, pretend to steal it, use it as a hat, rock it as a babe. she laughs more easily this time, gladly, and when she laughs i am taken by more important maids, thereby officially Excused.

it goes like this for months. the winter comes. i rarely see her. i spend my week thinking about ways to please her. i knick interesting cookies, show her shiny buttons, learn to cartwheel in a full skirt, and then promptly how to make it look foolish again. i learn how to juggle hot bread and dance as a man would, i learn how to balance on a ball and how to fall down without hurting myself, how to fake a fight with my own body, which colors she likes and which don’t please her.

i show up on a cold eve with a knotted line of scarves hidden down my sleeve, worried and breathless, wondering why she’s been crying. the door opens and she is sitting there, happy. at first i’m confused, but she waves me in. next to her is her small dessert, in two containers. i’m not sure how to respond, so i fake a fall to hear her laugh, and then sit at her feet. she gives me ice cream - so rare a treat. i know what went into making it - the hours of shaking. it’s smooth and tasty. i don’t feign my reaction, but she laughs anyway, kindly. 

it goes like this. i see her more frequently. she likes giving me new things, watching me discover i hate kiwi and love oranges and would die if it made her laugh breathlessly. i’ve made her keel over with cackling and she’s put a fire in me. sometimes we just sit there, quietly, enjoying each other’s company. 

it’s in her hands, always moving. little things i thought were just her, fidgeting. here’s how she says she’s thirsty, this is what her hands do when she needs a second to think, here’s how she shows she’s happy. this is how i learn to speak back to her. around her i spend much of my time smiling. i feel every visit is a gift. a new part to unravel. i find out she doesn’t respond to spoken things, that she needs to be looking in order to know you were speaking. sometimes she has me talk and she holds her hands to the base of my throat, her eyes wide and wondering. sometimes she just looks at me and i forget that i’m her jester in chief. i get caught up in her eyes, in how expressive they are when she’s happy, in how when she’s sad i feel like i’m drowning.

i never see the king or queen, but i know when she’s had a visit with them, because she never comes back happy. two winters i have known her, two winters and now we dine frequently. i am often called to stand beside her, to whisper translations of her desires into the ears of someone more important than i, someone who gets to be the voice of royalty. i can’t decide if i’m her friend or her plaything, but i don’t know i care much of the distinction. every moment i’m near her is a moment free of friction. i take stock of suitors and curtsy to them in daylight only to mock them in the candle’s eye later.

she asks me one night to stay. it has been a bad day. it’s completely not okay. i cannot say no but i cannot, by my station, stay. but she begs with her eyes and her hands and i know i’ll take the punishment. 

we lie beside each other. i make sure to turn to her when i speak. in the dark she can’t see me, so i move my hands in the way i’m learning. she asks if i am ever lonely. i cannot tell her that i am always lonely without her beside me, so instead i say i think all people are very lonely and just are pretending. she laughs a little at that and says she thinks her parents are the two most lonely people that ever met. her mother was like her; broke a fairy curse and talked, just once, although nobody knows what she said. well, excepting her father, who was the only one around, and who won her hand in marriage.

from her mother she learned the art of hands, of speaking without words - from her father she learned that who she was included a curse. that she just wanted someone who would make her open like a rose - someone who could fix her. how she stared out into the royal garden and wished on flowers to be what her kingdom needs.

she fell asleep pressed against me. i couldn’t breathe. i was still awake in the morning. 

the punishment never came. we spent nights like this. the handmaidens had grown to know me. whenever their princess was stubborn, i worked magic and made her lovely.

it was a terrible thing. i did too good a job, i think. the princess glowed too much or shone too brightly - or at least, i saw it that way, so who knows what the truth is. every day it felt like we were being rushed with princes. 

her father’s temper at hosting failed. it was the day before her twenty-first birthday and first time i’d ever seen him. he stormed in at the end of the session. “just speak!” he said, “it’s not that hard! do for others what your mother did!” 

“tomorrow is your last day of this,” he warned her, “either you pick a prince or i pick for you. i’m done with it.”

he stormed off. she was left shellshocked and trembling. that night she didn’t ask me to come, but i waited outside, just in case she changed her mind. i understood why she needed space. either she’d speak and be married tomorrow or she’d be married shortly. i heard her crying and it took everything in my power not to rush in and hold her, cradle her gently. but i cannot come into a room of a royal person without being invited. i stayed there, tears in my own eyes, thinking of treason.

the next day was a huge festival. what had been a birthday celebration was turned into a day about princes. i watched her shake her head. i tried to cheer her up. i tried everything. i frequently came inches from causing public humiliation, toed the line of mocking and failing to acknowledge my station. she wouldn’t smile. not once. not even for anything.

the day was long. the bonfire wore down. i watched her crumple into herself. i was out of ideas. i knelt at her feet. her eyes barely looked at me. just wait, i said to her with my hands, i’ll be right back. i took off running.

the price of stealing is losing my hands. these things that i spoke to her with. these things that mattered so much to me, that helped with my comedy and cleaning. 

i didn’t think of them. i bloodied my fingers when i ripped the royal roses from their stems. and then i ran, as fast as i could, back to her feet. i picked them to show you, i said, as she gasped, looking at my treason, they’re beautiful and nobody told them to open to reveal their secrets to the bees. they are unbroken. as you are. as you always will be. 

she fell off her throne and for a second i was beyond speaking, worried something had happened, or she’d fainted, or i’d said the wrong thing. but then she was on her knees, her arms around me, and i heard it. i heard the soft croak of her speaking. just one word, and it sent shivers down me. my name, in her voice, awkward and unwieldy, but full of love and passion, burning fire through me.

i felt a hand on my shoulder. i was pulled away from her. they already had me in handcuffs while i struggled to get back to her, to tell her i loved her, to beg her to run off with me or maybe just hold me around her, maybe just have her for a moment, because i couldn’t live without her for a moment longer.

they put me in the cells. i rotted in there, for a while or for no time at all, i’m not sure. the thorns scarred my palms. i watched the scabs build up and flake off. every time someone came down, i flinched, wondering if i would be the next to be taken and chopped into bits.

but one day the light was different. not the smoky torch of the jailer, instead a bright light in a lantern. at first when i saw her, my breath caught in my throat, mistaking her for my princess.

but she was my queen. at first we stood in silence. and slowly, i moved my hands to speak. is she married? is what came out, even though i should be more worried about me myself and me.

she is not. she bit her father on the arm when he tried to make her. then she fought him. and then ran away. it took us a bit to find her, i’m afraid. she threatened her own life and the life of everyone in this place. the queen was smiling. i was told there was a young woman who could make the princess speak, whom she would die to save, who brought roses to her feet. someone in a cell, rotting. are you her?

the memory of her voice rang through me. i’m she.

yes, her hands said, for even now, aren’t you speaking to the silent Queen?

she opened the door. come, she said, let’s get you cleaned up for the ceremony.

the crown of kings. when she wraps her arms around my neck and laughs next to me, i am royalty. when she smiles or makes a joke or asks to see my cartwheel again, i’m lost in her. i kiss her whenever i can, which is often. we have roses in a vase at the base of our bed, and for all of the kingdom, i’d give my hands if it would keep her laughing.

the next time she spoke was just once, at our wedding, where she said the two words i do to bind us for eternity. she had learned from me, from holding her hands over my voicebox, the way i learned from her how to use hands to speak. sometimes at night she says my name, just because she likes what it does to me.

i’m more blessed than a king. every day i spend with her is a day i spend happily. 

About everything that recently happened at SDCC, I have been trying to find the right words to describe how I feel about it.
And….
There are no amount of words to describe how disappointed I am.
I’m not really angry like some people are.
Just disappointed.

It really makes me feel sick to know about what happened and how people were affected by what was said and done.

I’m still trying to gather my thoughts about this whole issue.

It wasn’t right of anyone in the cast to act this way and I expected more of them. I don’t really ship SuperCorp, but there are a lot of people who do and the cast and crew should respect that, even if they know its not going to happen. Let people do what they want. It wasn’t hurting anyone by pairing 2 characters together.

I haven’t really watch Supergirl since the beginning of season 2 and stopped watching for one reason or another.
I was thinking about watching season 3. But with what just happened I don’t think I will.

I also ask this of people who are upset not to attack any of the cast or crew.

Let’s be bigger people than them. We don’t have to result to insults. Just don’t watch the show and they’ll be canceled and know that they did wrong.

Also god bless Katie for trying to stand up against the others, even if she was getting interrupted.

Also, if anyone wants to talk about this with someone. I will gladly hear what you have to say. I’m here for comfort.

freed- soft apocolypse is the best way i can describe it. its a really sweet podcast about a badass lady who makes broadcasts about her progress fixing a mountain town. later on she makes friends that help her out and theres conspiracys and a lot gets revealed about the world. also my fave

10:46 PM. Nearly 4 hours ever since Peter left me alone in his room. We were doing our Calculus homework with one another until he claimed he got an emergency phone call and ran out the door before I could say anything, taking his backpack with him.

The only thing that kept me company was my textbook and the sound of the falling rain from the outside. May was fast asleep in her room while I was far from that, my heart becoming a mix between anger and fear. I bounced my pencil against the pages of the math book, staring at my calculator as time went by.

I checked my phone again, 10:50 PM. Still no texts, no calls, nothing. I stared at my lockscreen for a few seconds before shutting off my phone and pushing it to the side, growing more frustrated by the minute.

“Dammit Peter.” I muttered, throwing my head back in a fit. I listened to the sound of the raindrops to try to calm me down, but nothing was working at this point.

I huffed and got up from the desk, beginning to pack my things up and call it a night, being more than prepared to give Peter the silent treatment for the next week. Just as I was about to zip my bag up, I heard the locks on the window become undone.

hey hello here’s the car boys unifying theory, i made a fun corkboard with the thread everywhere just like them conspiracy theorists in the movies

spoilers for the finale of car boys & the stolen century arc of the adventure zone follow

the crutch of this theory rests on the the two endings being separate timelines: the boystos/separation timeline (the bad ending) [the ending shown before the credits, when griffin and nick are separated and set adrift in endless emptiness] and the candle in the wind timeline (the true ending) [the after-credits ending, griffin and nick stuck in the car together, perpetually fleeing from the blob through the time ring] {there is no good end}

the separation timeline / bad end

  • most of what happens in this timeline to the boys is based off this video by youtube user brockrin- which the boys have tweeted about so by my standards its canon plflfnfft
  • to sum it up- alone for an eternity in endless Nothingness, the boys become the bustos-  nick 1.0 and griffin 2.0- and attempt to go back and stop themselves in the past from fucking everything up, but fail
  • this timeline (im sorry for homestuck terminology but,) is a stable time loop, nothing ever changes- its them going around and around again trying and failing to stop themselves. its bad
  • but its important to note that griffin and nick were not the only ones in the time ring when they got separated- which brings me to Ball
  • Ball has qualities of both the ovo and the blob, as it has blob-like physics (even leading to the it hates water! revelation) and its roundness and fondness of rolling just like ovo
  • Ball becomes separated from itself. the white sections become the ovo, and the black sections the blob

the candle in the wind timeline / true end

  • now things get a little buckwild
  • the basic premise of this timeline is that nick and griffin stay in the waterproof pessima lx for , basically eternity, travelling through the time ring in an endless chase with the blob
  • the reason that they don’t break down like in the bad end is pretty much that being stuck in a perpetual expanse of time and space with a friend is infinitely better than being stuck there alone
  • this is where coolgames inc starts! essentially a way to pass time when youve quite literally got nothing but time. (and as nick said, there’s wifi in the void)
  • this is where the guest-o-matic in the cgi animations comes in! and, in addition, there is a “canon” connection with cb in the cook for cube cgi animation- perhaps the two timelines converging for just a second ? 
  • uncle buck from uncle buck
  • in the time ring we see countless galaxies pass by as they travel downwards- they travel through endless amounts of realities and planes as the blob pursues them
  • taking a moment here to explain something else integral to this- in car boys, nick has the power of creation, the ability to spawn and create objects in the game. griffin, conversely, has the power of manipulation, he’s much of the driving force behind important decisions and actions taken in the show. this becomes important
  • this is when touch the skyrim takes place- in a number of the universes they pass through down and down into the time ring, griffin takes advantage of these powers of manipulation to modify the word around them because like why not, its fun
  • what’s wrong with this dream, nick
  • as the boys + the blob pass through universe after universe in the time ring, the bob catalyzes the event in the original universe of Jon (taz) that originally creates the hunger- the blob merges with the inhabitants of that universe and the hunger is born 
    (note: this may be edited in the coming weeks as we learn more abt the hunger and its origin)
  • and the boys realize this- that the universes that theyre passing through are being consumed behind them- and they begin looking for a solution, which materializes in the form of the original taz universe, the homeworld of thb and ipre and all that. 
  • it’s also at this point that the light of creation really like, becomes the light of creation its- its nick? its nick. nick is the light of creation. this fact being proposed is what prompted me to make this theory in the first place
  • griffin shapes the world of taz and becomes the dm/narrator (note especially in recent episodes during the into to taz the narrator uses ‘we’ and ‘us’- as if he is part of this world and is involved in the story) and the two boys follow the ipre through the planes of existence in order to help them find a way to defeat the hunger/blob and save all of reality from the monster that they created
  • and i think its a canon thing that the light of creation is split into the relics? that happens. thats pretty sad i think
  • ..until we get to the present- the hunger descending upon what will likely be the multiverse’s final stand against the hunger in the main taz universe (the one with two moons and stuff). cant wait for the taz finale bros

How to Write (and how not to write) LGBT characters

I saw a post earlier about writing LGBT characters that I hated a lot so here’s my take, as a non-binary lesbian and as a writer, on tips on how to write/not write LGBT characters.

A couple notes:

1) First and foremost, if you’re not LGBT, you need to talk to actual LGBT people about your characters. Seeing posts like this aren’t going to Cure you of any internalized homophobic or transphobic ideas that you might have, and LGBT people can point out problematic aspects that you wouldn’t realize could hurt LGBT people. Even if you ARE LGBT, be conscious of writing identities you can’t personally relate to. If you’re not a trans lesbian and want to write about one, talk to trans lesbians.

2) Going off of this… not all LGBT people agree on everything. (Hence why i’m writing this post in the first place!) However, if you have MANY LGBT people saying something you’re writing is problematic, don’t dismiss it just because one person disagreed. This is also why it’s good to talk to multiple LGBT people, not just one, about your characters.

The Actual Tips:

1) Writing feminine gay men and masculine lesbians… is not a bad thing, so long as you do this respectfully. This is something I see being toted as a “NEVER, EVER DO THIS”, and that’s blatantly wrong. Butch lesbians and feminine men exist, and deserve representation. If you have one lesbian character who’s masculine, predatory, objectifies women, etc, yeah, that’s a problem- but you’re capable of writing gay characters without doing this. (And if you’re not… don’t write gay characters!) Edit (anon suggestion): Not all mlm characters are “smol beans”, either- there are lots of masculine mlm who need representation too.

2) Gay people have gay friends. Unless they literally have no friends at all, we tend to have gay friends. Even if they’re in the deep south and are deeply closeted, they *probably still know another gay person*.

3) Don’t write the GBF trope. Literally just don’t.

4) Give your LGBT characters personalities just like you would cishet ones. Give them quirks and fears and goals like anyone else. BUT, this doesn’t mean “don’t overdo telling people your character is gay!!!”, because that’s another thing I see said a lot (primarily by cishets). LGBT people talk about being LGBT, especially around other LGBT people. A lot of us LIKE to joke about how gay we are or jokingly call inconvenient things homophobia. You can make them developed characters without totally ignoring their identity altogether. (This, though, is still another thing to be done sensitively, as with writing ‘stereotypical’ characters.)

5) Don’t write trans characters using ace bandages unless you’re making it explicitly clear how harmful this is. Please. Yes, this happens IRL, but this is a form of harmful representation that can perpetuate trans people injuring themselves through unsafe binding. (And you can find afab trans people to ask about other forms of bonding if you really can’t figure out some other way to write this.)

6) Additionally, a lot of trans people don’t just pass automatically if they bind once or cut their hair or wear a wig or put on makeup. (Unless they haven’t hit puberty yet.) I have trans friends who have been presenting as their gender for years and are still misgendered. I’ve read a number of books where a trans guy puts his Long Hair in a hat and binds and then suddenly everyone genders him correctly. This isn’t the reality for a lot of trans people. We get misgendered by our family, by friends, and constantly by total strangers. And if misgendering is a factor of our dysphoria, it *hurts*.

7) Unless you have a lot of LGBT characters, don’t make your villain LGBT. Consider WHY the hell you feel the need to make your evil character(s) gay or trans. Even IF you have a lot of LGBT characters, you should still think about why making someone who we are meant to root against and hope gets defeated into a LGBT character is so important to you.

I’ll probably add on to this later because I have a lot of thoughts on this, but other LGBT people feel free to add on as well!

Voltron time

Okay, but listen! LISTEN!

So no one knows if any characters are going to be killed off in future seasons, but because of the 80s show, Shiro is a prime target to get the chop, if you know what I mean.

BUT! 

That would be too predictable, right? RIGHT? Everyone knows Shiro’s character gets fucked up in the original, or at least the character he was based off of. So what if something else happens when they find him?

PLOT TWIST!

Nobody dies! 

No, LISTEN! Allura will be bonding with the blue lion, so even though she’s not the best paladin yet, she’s more than capable and is able to use her many other talents on the battlefield. You know, magic, super strength, etc. Meanwhile, Lance and Keith are like co-leadering or whatever, sharing Red or changing lions or- IT DOESN’T MATTER! Anyway, so they find Shiro, right? And at first it’s all happy and shit, but of course they find him in a dangerous place or something and they have to fight their way out with him and Matt and shit. Anyway, so something happens and everyone is vulnerable or something, I don’t know. Anyway, WE CAN SEE THE KILLING BLOW COMING FOR SHIRO! We know it’s coming, he doesn’t stand a chance, OH GOD IT ALL MAKES SENSE! CURSE YOU 80s VOLTRON! But then! THEN-

So Lance is looking at this and is like, oh no, we just found Shiro, we can’t afford to lose him again because it’s been so hard without him and Keith has been super depressed. And so Lance is all “Allura is turning into a great blue paladin, and if Shiro comes back to the team, then that means Keith can go back to being the red paladin full time and Shiro can be leader again.” And because it’s Lance, who devalues himself and also has a self-sacrificing streak (looks at the bomb with Coran/how upset he gets every time he fails to protect his friends), he sees the situation like this–He is the least valuable member of the team as of that point. 

And so whatever is happening to Shiro, Lance GETS INVOLVED and, I don’t know, pushes Shiro out of the way and so HE’S the one that DIES! 

I’m serious. Like, if I’m taking a look at the 80s Voltron for inspiration, but I’m also not wanting to be predictable, that’s what I would do. Like, Lance’s arc is set up perfectly for this development and, from a writer’s perspective, he’s the lovable jokester that kicks the bucket just for sentimentality’s sake. 

If I was writing it, that’s what I would do anyway despite the fact that Lance is my fav character.

She defeats them with words, something Annabeth constantly does throughout the books to her enemies. There’s a charge in the air. A gathering static that threatens to strike with every movement she makes, but never quite gets the guts to do so.

That’s Jason Grace for you. Son of Jupiter, chosen of Juno, and just a touch too soft to do what needs to be done. Oh sure, he’ll kill monsters if he needs to, but when the monsters are gods, his solution is to become a priest.

It’s about finding a compromise, he’d said. And making sure that we’re heard.

Annabeth’s finding there are better ways of making noise.

“You got here faster than I expected,” she remarks as he touches down in front of her. She’s perched on the crumbling remnants of a wall that’s thousands of years old. Some small, distant part of her regrets what is about to happen here, but not enough to change course.

“Your pattern’s getting old,” he says. His gladius is out and he holds it warily between them. Annabeth keeps her drakonbone sword at her side. “The others can hold Percy off long enough for me to stop what you’re doing.”

She raises her eyebrows. “You’re the only one coming?”

He tries to hide his grimace, but that’s the danger with fighting your friends. They can read you too well, and a smile curls over Annabeth’s mouth at the confirmation. She hops off the wall, landing lightly on the dirt.

“What made you think I’d be at Pompeii?”

Lightning crackles in the sky overhead, raising the small hairs at the back of her neck. He nods at the scaffolding in the distance, empty of workers this early in the morning. It’s a grim dawn, about to get darker.

“No tourists today. You might’ve turned against the gods, Annabeth, but you’re not a murderer.”

Isn’t she? Annabeth has lost count of the number of monsters she’s put in the ground (under the ground). How many demigods died in the war with Kronos? They bleed red the same as mortals, and her hands are as stained as anyone’s.

So are Jason’s, and irritation pricks at her face. She smooths it away with a cool smile, carefully tracking him as he starts to circle her. She has a certain amount of faith in Jason’s willingness to ‘save’ his friends, but she’s not an idiot.

“So I should start picking locations with people if I don’t want you to interfere, is that what you’re saying?”

“That’s obviously not what I’m saying.” His gaze flickers over the ruins stretching behind her. “So this is all rigged to blow, huh?”

“Leo does good work.”

He winces. He can play on whatever friendship the two of them might have had all he likes, but that betrayal is the real knife in the guts and they both know it. Annabeth coerces her expression into concern, the cogs of her brain turning the right muscles to give it the realism it needs. She takes a half step forward, and Jason doesn’t step away.

“He misses you, you know.” Her voice is a soft thing. Caring. “Misses both of you.”

“If he misses us so bad, he should come and see us.”

“You really think we’re going to be welcome at Camp after all this?

“You haven’t killed anyone.”

The yet sits between us, and it doesn’t matter anyway. The gods would be more likely to forgive her if she had killed someone. They could have murdered thousands of mortals and not been struck down, if they’d just done it far away from the last vestiges of godly power in this world.

Gaea had plotted to bring down Mt Olympus, and that’s definitely on Annabeth’s list. But she’s always been a methodical sort of girl, and divine power runs deep. Best to stamp out all traces of it, one relic at a time.

She sighs. “We don’t plan to. You know that.”

“You’re trying to kill the gods!” Lightning cracks again, closer now. It takes more strength than Annabeth wants to admit to to avoid reaching for her weapon.

“And how many times have they tried to kill us? At best they don’t give a shit, Jason, you know that.”

But he’s shaking his head. They’ve had this fight before, all of them, enough times that she could probably just record it for him to save energy. He’s long since stopped listening to sense, and she doesn’t bother with more than a cursory attempt to convince him.

“You’re too late for this one,” she says. “I’m proud of you for getting here before it blows, but you were right. It’s ready to go.”

His grip shifts on his sword. And - there’s something in his expression that prompts her to brace for an attack, because it’s not defeat. This time, she thinks. This time might be the one where I push too far.

It’s sad, sort of, but relief swamps that soon enough. It’s not that she wants to fight old friends, but it would make everything a lot simpler. To just be able to fight, without caring what happens to them anymore. To draw battlelines instead of blurring them

“I don’t want to hurt you,” he growls. “But even if the rest of your team is ready to destroy this place, they’ll stop once you’re a hostage.”

Annabeth laughs. It’s a miscalculation, but she can’t help herself. “The others might. But hell itself couldn’t keep Percy Jackson from me, Jason, and you’re no Tartarus.”

“I can deal with Percy.”

He can’t. She wonders idly if he knows that. Everyone’s aware of Percy’s power these days, but that’s what he’s like with her at his side. Jason, she suspects, still has a little too much optimism left about what Percy’s self control would be like without her. What it would be like if he even thought she was in danger.

“Right, well, that’ll be your mistake to live with.” She squints up at the sky, trying to judge her next play. Being a hostage would accelerate certain things that she’s not ready to set into motion just yet. Most of all, she doesn’t think that Percy is quite as ready to fight the others as she is.

Not yet.

“You made a miscalculation,” she said finally. “You always want to go for the biggest player, Jason. It’s one of your biggest weaknesses.”

“You can’t talk your way out of this, Annabeth.” His body moves, and she can almost trace the lines in the air, the familiar forms he’s about to slide into. “You’re coming back to Camp wth me.”

He lifts his blade, wreathed in lightning. She smells ozone on the air, the threat of violence wafting in behind it. She clasps her hands behind her back, and lays down her hand.

“Where’s Piper, Jason?”

Everything stops. Nature itself holds its breath as those too-blue eyes widen in sheer panic, before narrowing at her.

“Piper’s your friend. You wouldn’t hurt her.”

Annabeth waits. She doesn’t need to say anything. The silence between them does it for her. The even sound of her breathing. The shroud of absolute confidence holding her shoulders straight.

You are not going to take me, her body says, like it’s all a foregone conclusion.

“She can handle herself,” he tries again, and there’s the edge of desperation that she’s been waiting for. Enough to cloud his thinking. He might not think she’s a murderer, but there are other atrocities. Things she hasn’t held back from in the opening numbers of this new war.

“Against Percy?”

That’s a risk. Because they both know that Percy isn’t steady, isn’t stable, that his relationship with Piper had been tenuous at best and that without Annabeth there, his temper might just get away with him. Piper has her Charmspeak, but there are ways around everything if you have enough power.

It’s a risk, because Jason’s anger could always outweigh his fear. He could always take it out on her rather than fly off for Piper. Annabeth is confident in her ability to take him with a sword, but Jason comes with all those bonus add-ons that children of Athena just aren’t privy to.

So she gives him one last push. Just to make sure.

“Tartarus has so many doors,” she says softly. That same quiet concern from before, turned deadly now. “You know we found all of them, right Jason?”

He spits a curse, something in Latin about the gods and what he hopes they’ll do to her. She watches him leap into the sky, shading her eyes against the rising sun until he’s no more than a dot in the distance.

“You say that like they haven’t already done their worst,” she murmurs, before turning back to the ruins.

There’s work to be done.

i don't remember if this has been discussed before but do you know why lexa was so smiley and almost playful in that scene in 304 when she was telling clarke about aden?

Alright, my brain is currently melting away because of the unbearable heat, so I hope this will make sense even though I’m not really sure about it. BUT. I wanted to answer this question because we kinda see the scene in a very different way. Maybe it’s my angsty soul, but I actually don’t think Lexa is being that playful in that scene. Actually… there are certain elements about it that I actually find sad, mostly because they speak of how Lexa is, of the way she thinks and sees things. In this particular case, the way she sees Clarke. Or even better, the way she reads Clarke’s reaction to the situation. But let me try to make myself more clear. (x)

The scene begins with Lexa asking Aden to stay so she can introduce him to Clarke. She proceeds to praise him, making sure Clarke knows his value, and to explain what is going to happen in case she should die during the duel with Roan.

I love how much you can read on Clarke’s face here. The initial confusion. Then, most important, the slight panic and worry at the mention of Lexa’s possible death. Her eyes actually go wide at that. Then, the moment when she connects the dots, when she realizes why Lexa is introducing her to this child, because he’ll likely be the next Commander. They’re mostly talking politics, but basically, everything about this scene revolves around one thing: Lexa’s death. And here we get to the part I actually find pretty sad.

Lexa sees the confusion and fear on Clarke’s face and, in a rare occasion when it comes to Lexa understanding and knowing Clarke, she misreads what she sees. 

What does she tell Aden? “Clarke worries about her people.” Clarke worries about her people. This tiny smile, almost resigned in a way, appears on her face, and she explains to Aden the apparent reason for Clarke’s worried expression. And this is what pains me: the thought that Clarke might be worried about her doesn’t cross Lexa’s mind. Her death is a reason for concern in the sense that it could lead to potential danger for Clarke’s people, not a concern because it would mean that, you know, she would be gone. Lexa talks about her death constantly and nonchalantly because she has been taught not to value her life outside of the confinements of her position as Commander. At worst, she sees it as an inconvenience, definitely not as a tragedy. Add the delicate condition of Clarke and Lexa’s relationship to this, the baby steps towards rebuilding trust and growing close again, and it’s pretty easy to understand why Lexa doesn’t think Clarke’s worry might have anything to do with her as Lexa the girl, not the Commander.

This is why she has Aden explain what he would do if she were to die, how he would still protect Skaikru and accept them into the Coalition. This is why I think she smirks. In her head, she has it all covered: Clarke has no reason to worry because she took care of every small detail to ensure Skaikru’s safety in case of her death.

Except that Clarke has every reason to worry, because she doesn’t care just about her people. She cares about Lexa.

YouTube AU

Okay my friends sit your cute little asses down and get comfy because we boutta take a fucking trip.

First of all, Keith and Pidge share a YouTube channel. It’s definitely a conspiracy theorist, cryptic one. They just share different theories for things, including government like shit and skinwalkers and aliens and ghosts. They also talk about Shiro, Keith’s older brother that dead ass up and disappeared and there was no sign of him anywhere. They talk about that a lot, fans sharing their own theories. For a while the following hashtags were trending/used all the time: #Whereisshiro #whereiskeithsbrother #noseriouslywherethefuckisshiro. Also, there’s a count for every time Keith says ‘shut the fuck up pidge’ and every time pidge says ‘suck my dick, Keith.’ A few years into the channel, and it’s hella popular, Shiro comes back with no memory of where he’s been and they ask him on and Keith’s just. “Okay yeah we haven’t posted anything but there’s a good reason. Boom” and shiro just dead ass shows up. All the fans simultaneously shit themselves.

Shiro has his own channel before he disappeared. It was literally just sims 3-4 speed builds and a few self defence videos. When he comes back he just starts uploading like nothing happened. He said he couldn’t be bothered to explain so everyone should just check out his brothers YouTube channel. (Also he watches their videos and he’s annoying because he finds himself laughing really hard at those two dorks.) He eventually teams up Matt and becomes a gaming channel with sims speed builds happening. Them and Keith & pidge have sibling wars a lot.

Lance and Allura dead ass have a beauty channel with advice and dumb games. Everyone is always like 'I wished I loved myself as much as Lance loves himself’. They do hair and nails and make up and frequently have make up off’s to see who’s better. Every single time the other wins. They’re currently at 34-34 and it’s the quickest way to rile them up. They also did a whole video on which colour the dress actually was. (Lance: so yeah it’s obviously blue and black. Allura: um, I love you but no. It’s white and gold. Lance, under his breath: this bitch). Also if anyone’s wondering then they use lance’s sibling as dolls for their make up off’s.

Hunk has his little cooking channel, and mainly people tune in because he’s adorable and actually really funny, besides he creates some seriously good recipes. His fans (and Lance) all boost his confidence and he opens this little bakery that gets very popular. He frequently meets fans there and ALWAYS gets incredibly flustered and they give him little gifts and stuff and keeps every single one. Also, Lance is a guest quite a lot and they love it because their friendship is pure and goals. (Hunk: so yeah, here is our finished- Lance: no but guys this shit is really good honestly I’d probably kill for it. Hunk, blushing: er, anyway…)

Everyone is super shocked when they find out that Keith and Lance are together (many a hance advocated were disappointed that day, but happy they were happy). Keith is asked in a Q&A about his relationship and he, being a little tipsy because of a dare (don’t worry, pidge was worse) he just says “oh right yeah, Lance from that beauty channel.” And everyone doesn’t really believe him so he got his phone out and proved that shit. Don’t ever question a tipsy conspiracy theorist and on something they know. They all do this big ass video, Hunk, Lance and Allura, Pidge and keith. They had some purpose but they forgot about it immediately, Lance and Keith bickering constantly and Pidge rolling her eyes, occasionally mentioning some skinwalker theories. Allura just did Hunk’s make up as he talked about shay. Also, Keith says 'shut the fuck up you lovable dork" and it dead ass gets so popular they make t-shirts with that slogan. Shiro and Matt come over in the middle of this video. All the viewers see is them walking in, realising what the fuck was going on, looking at each other (Shiro: Chinese? Matt: sounds good let’s go.) and leaving without announcing themselves.

Coran is just the tech for them all but they hear his voice a lot (“Lance you’re my favourite don’t die.” “Keith if you do that I’m not taking you to the hospital. Again.” “Shiro, my son, that’s a nice ass fucking house.” “Pidge, I agree with Keith. Shut the fuck up.” “Allura don’t make me call your father from beyond the grave, I do not want an angry poltergeist on my hands but so help me god I’ll do it.” “Hunk you genius that food is amazing but have you considered my green goo?” “Matt, control your best friend. No wait, control yourself first, then him.” “No but guys if I hear me out, the green goo isn’t that bad.)

Being human hurts more than Cas is prepared for.

It’s full of strange physical sensations, ones that he had control over in the past, ones that now seem to control him. It’s full of weakness, of obstacles that he has to work around rather than effortlessly power through. It’s full of emotion, of strange moods and reactions that catch him by surprise and unsettle him.

He gets by. He’s watched humans forever, and he focuses on using the same coping mechanisms he’s seen them use, on learning how they get through all of this.

“Why don’t you work on finding the good stuff?” Sam suggests one day. “There has to be at least a couple things that are better as a human, right?”

It’s an interesting idea, and Cas spends the rest of the day thinking about it.

Yes. There is one thing that’s better. One thing, one person, that makes him feel good. Content. Safe and happy and fulfilled in a way he never did as an angel.

But it has only happened a few times and he’s a little nervous about pushing for more.

That night, he makes himself knock on Dean’s door anyway. Again.

“Yeah?”

Cas finds Dean stretched out on the bed, laptop in front of him playing some movie. “Hello, Dean.”

“What’s up, Cas?”

Cas looks at the ground for a moment. “I was…well, I was hoping that I. That we could.”

Words fail him, so he just looks up at Dean and hopes for the best.

“Sure, Cas,” Dean grins, relaxed and easy like this isn’t the big thing Cas thought it might be.

Happily, Cas rushes to the bed and flops down against Dean, snuggling into his chest and tangling their legs together. Dean wraps an arm around Cas to hug him closer, plants his chin in Cas’ hair, and goes back to watching the movie.

Part of Cas wants to sleep, because he knows that here with Dean, he’ll sleep well, no nightmares or worries to interrupt him. The other part, the part that wins, wants to stay awake and enjoy the solid warmth against him, wants to listen to the heartbeat steadily drumming in his ear.

“Hey, Cas?” Dean murmurs as the movie ends.

“Mmm?”

“You know you don’t have to ask. I get it. And you’re always welcome to…you know.”

Cas smiles at how they still won’t actually talk about it. But discussing this doesn’t seem like such an important thing at the moment.

“Thank you, Dean.”

Being human hurts.

But sometimes, it doesn’t.

Imagine it’s John Watson’s wedding. Sherlock has been looking forward to dancing for weeks. John makes a “no-homo” jab at Sherlock for teaching him, then leaves Sherlock to wallow in his loneliness.

Now imagine Sherlock shakes it off, finds Greg Lestrade – who also doesn’t have a date – and proposes they dance the next song together. Greg protests a bit, then says, “Well, I have to lead – I’m more comfortable that way” to which Sherlock replies, “That’s no problem, I enjoy either position”. Then they fall into step, join John and Mary out on the dance floor, the whole room has a collective laugh, and they enjoy the night as one big happy family.

You see, this is what it means to make homosexual innuendo. Something like this is what one would have to do to make that situation a joke.
