Who wants a really super long annoying post as to why Percy is in Slytherin and doesn’t belong in any of the other houses? That’s right you don’t, but I’m going to give it to you anyway.

Okay, let’s start with slashing off everyone’s immediate choice - Hufflepuff.

You might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal.

  • Just - based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair. Synonyms include fair, equitable, impartial, unbiased, objective, neutral. Yeah…. I don’t really think so. I can think of only a few occasions where Percy has exhibited any of those ‘just’ traits. Using officialclarkkent’s example, you can reference any situation where Percy was not suppose to go on a quest and then went anyway. A shining moment is in TC, where he knew for a fact that the people going on the quest for Artemis were perfectly capable then went anyway because of his personal feelings for Annabeth.
  • The next tidbit is loyalty, which I am willing to give you. But one little detail is that Percy’s fatal flaw is personal loyalty. Meaning that Percy would ‘sacrifice the world to save a friend.’ And you know what other house is all about personal loyalty?? Basically Slytherin is about selective loyalty and once you betray that, it’s pretty much gone forever. I.E. Nico, who despite apologizing for nearly an entire book for betraying Percy, Percy still was distrustful of him all throughout the second series.

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, and unafraid of toil.

  • We’ve pretty much covered true but unafraid of toil? He’s brave, but unafraid toil? No. Percy will fight and put up a strong front but you can bet that there’s an 80% chance he’s afraid. Like there are many examples but to name a few: The Fury, Medusa, the Gods, the war, the prophecy, dropping his sword in front of Tartarus… literally anything.

Valuing hard work, patience, and fair play. Hufflepuffs are not as competitive as the other houses.

  • Hardwork is a give or take. Percy will only put his all into something if he wants to. If not, it probably won’t get done.
  • Patience. Do I even have to explain how impatient this boy is?
  • Fair Play. Like that time when he used the knowledge that Gaea wanted him for a sacrifice, so he then manipulated her into giving him the correct vial of gorgon’s blood in what was supposedly a fair chance game? Yeah, fair play is not really Percy’s forte.
  • Not Competitive. Remember how Percy and Jason fought over who could kill the other? Or how competitive he is with Annabeth in literally everything? He’s competitive, no doubt about it.
  • Now one of the biggest arguments I hear is that Percy is so kind and friendly, he has to be Hufflepuff. But friendliness and kindliness are not exclusive house traits. You can be extremely evil in Hufflepuff just as you can be extremely friendly in Slytherin.
  • So to conclude, I can see loyalty making him Hufflepuff, but other than that? Nothing? Is loyalty all we are really going amount his sorting to? When he’s such a complex character, I find it hard using only his fatal flaw to sort him, especially since loyalty is a Slytherin trait as well.

Okay next house - Gryffindor. We’re skipping Ravenclaw because that seems to be the only thing we all agree he can’t be.

You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart. Their daring, nerve, and chivalry set Gryffindors apart.

  • Despite being afraid, he has the brave, daring, and nerve down. Chivalrous? Not really. Towards Annabeth of course, but everyone else? Naw. This kid pretty much cheats his way out of everything if given the chance.
  • Gryffindor seems a better fit than Hufflepuff, but I do agree with the fact that his loyalty plays a big part in his personality. But to clarify - his loyalty should not be the only deciding factor when he is sorted.

Now, let’s hear what Slytherin is all about.

Or perhaps in Slytherin, you’ll make your real friends.

  • ‘Real friends.’ That sounds interesting. Kinda funny how Percy is all about personal loyalty and would sacrifice the world to save a friend

Those cunning folk use any means, to achieve their ends.

  • Cunning - having or showing skill in achieving one’s ends by deceit or evasion. Once again, like how Percy used the knowledge that Gaea wanted him for a sacrifice, so he then manipulated her into giving him the correct vial of gorgon’s blood? Or how at twelve years old, he killed Crusty by manipulating the guy to lay down on one of his own beds and decapitating him? Or how he manipulated Bob to kill his own brother by ensuring that they were friends?
  • ‘Any means to achieve their ends.’ Like keeping the grey sisters’ eye until they gave him the information he needed in sos? Or torturing the Goddess of Misery for revenge?

Slytherin valued qualities are cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, leadership, and “a certain disregard for the rules.”

  • Cleverness. Like the time percy cheated in rock, paper, scissors to insure that Briares would come with them in tbl? Or in sos when he was battling Luke on the cruise ship, opened up an Iris Message, and then manipulated Luke into confessing he poisoned Thalia’s tree to the entire camp?
  • Resourcefulness. Like when being attacked by the Minotaur at age twelve with no training and ripping off one of its horns to use as a weapon? Or when fighting Ares, he maneuvered himself so he was in the ocean and got the upper hand? Or when they were trying to navigate the Labyrinth and got Rachel Dare to help them?
  • Percy is so clever and resourceful you don’t even know.
  • Determination. Do you even need examples for this one?
  • Leadership. Huh. Sorta like the time he lead Camp Half-Blood in a war and strategically (and affectively) placed the campers around New York to protect the city? And how pretty much everyone listened to him without a second thought because he obviously knew what he was doing? And how he is a co-leader at camp? And in the few days he was at Camp Jupiter he was offered praetorship?
  • “A certain disregard for rules.” The first book literally opened with him worrying that his school would find out he copied his essay off line or figured out about the illegal stash of candy he was selling. Then there’s the fact he blatantly disregards the rules at Camp Half-Blood and just went off on quests he wasn’t suppose to be on. Or how he’s impertinent to the gods which is a huge no-no?
  • Like wow Percy pretty much exemplifies nearly all the Slytherin traits.

Sorting can be extremely difficult and no one’s a perfect fit but seriously, if we sort unbiasedly, basing it off of Percy’s many many personality traits and not solely on the fact his fatal flaw loyalty, there is no doubt that Percy is Slytherin.

WHY ASGORE DESERVES LOVE.

Put yourself in Asgore’s role for a second. Your kids have just died. Wouldn’t you be angry too? Not only that but the kingdom was losing hope and fast. Now I’m supportive of the theory that hope = HOPE and that HOPE = HP. A book in the librarby even says that souls are made of compassion, hope, and love. What happens when you lose hope? You fall down. Then you die. Asgore didn’t want that. Not only that but he was in an enraged state. He reacted like anyone else would. Can we fault him for that? Maybe. Should we? No.

Toriel isn’t innocent either. She left Asgore and her people when they needed each other most. Skip forward to 201X. (Yes, I support the theory that the game takes place in 201X.) Toriel rushes in and stops the fighting. She mentions you would have the choice to kill Asgore. She was afraid that one, you would lose your innocence, and two, that you would kill her former love. She is then properly introduced to everyone and vice versa. Yet she is still cold to Asgore. Let me say something here. These two monsters have been together for centuries and were only apart for about 30 years seeing as Asriel used VHS tapes. Asgore is not the only one hurting. Here is Toriel, seeing Asgore again after all this time. Yes, many bad memories will come up. Most of them will be good though. She doesn’t sigh at him in disgust. She is sighing because she is stubborn and refusing to get back with him. She probably felt terrible leaving him. When she is explaining that monsters will capture and kill Frisk, she doesn’t look at them when she mentions Asgore by name. She doesn’t want to believe he is responsible for the deaths of her children. Toriel deep down knows he did what he had to do for their people. During the “lost soul” portion of Asriel’s fight you can get Asgore to remember you. When he does she immediately remembers you as well showing she was watching the interaction and still cares. She may hate what he did, but I highly doubt she hates him personally as much… After all, they did give up immortality to have a kid.

Their homes even show how much they need each other. HOME is filled with low-maintenance or dying plants. NEW HOME is without color, no one to use the reading chair, and more. One makes desserts with no drinks. The other makes tea but can’t properly cook. They are perfect each other.

As for whether Asgore killed the 6 children? He might have not. He is not that kind of guy. If he’s not going to go to the surface with 1 soul to get 6, he is definitely not going to want to kill anyone. Most of the children were either killed by other monsters or were killed by accidental or natural causes. This is shown by where you find their items. The yellow soul is the best example. The cowboy died in the dump as their items were found by Bratty and Catty. How did they die in the dump if there are no monsters there? They didn’t. I believe they fell from the top of waterfall like Frisk did. They died on impact knocking their gun and hat away. Asgore probably planted golden flowers there as both a memorial and to make sure it wouldn’t happen again. Not only that, but in one of Papyrus’s phone calls, he mentions that Asgore wanted to have the spikes in the puzzles near Snowdin removed to protect children.

Why he attacked Frisk? He HAD to. Frisk was the last soul required. The monsters probably would have been fine letting the other humans live with Asgore while waiting for the seventh. The seventh gets the death sentence though. They are tired of waiting and want freedom.

Asgore even gives Frisk multiple chances to run away while talking to them. He tells them it will be like the dentist to get Frisk not to struggle and to reassure himself. As for his fight? He has 80s across the board. He is incredibly tough. He is holding back. He destroys the mercy button not so Frisk can’t flee or mercy him but because he feels he doesn’t deserve to be spared. He even outright states that he just wants to see his son. If it’s your second neutral run, he kills himself to give Frisk a chance to escape.

Asgore is a martyr.

There is more than one reason Asgore didn’t just go through the barrier either. He saw Asriel die… Think about it. If Asriel turned into a more powerful and scarier form, what about Asgore? Not only that but Asgore is the same as Asriel. He doesn’t want to kill. If he went outside that way he would just die like Asriel did. Especially since Asriel’s visit to the surface made the rumors about horrible monsters skyrocket. Another reason Asgore didn’t is war. If humans saw a horrible creature taking human souls they would retaliate instantly! Asgore wanted the least amount of bloodshed possible. 7 possibly suicidal humans vs an entire race you know is innocent…

Also, what if Asriel was revived somehow? We have already seen multiple ways it could happen through tumblr, comics, and fanfiction. He would want his parents together.

Finally… Soriel… This ship is so idiotic and is based off of nothing. It basically goes from Toriel and Sans sharing knock knock jokes to them kissing. No. That does not happen. There would be zero single people with that logic. Heck, Toriel has more in common with PAPYRUS! They love cooking and puzzles. Do people ship them? No, they don’t. Toby Fox has even confirmed that along with Sans by himself being his personal OTP, that Sans is too lazy for sex. I’m reaching a bit but basically, Sans is asexual and probably aromantic. Anything you do to flirt with him he would shrug off. He would not care in the slightest. Not only that, but Sans is around 20 like Papyrus. Pap’s username is CoolSkeleton95. (Don’t think that’s his birth year? Undyne’s is StrongFish91.) Toriel is way too old for him. He even calls her an old lady during Genocide twice and at least once in Pacifist. (This is Sans we are talking about so he probably has at least one memory of her from other timelines.)

tl;dr

Asgore had no choice in what he did. Toriel knows this deep down. It will take a long time but I believe he can win her back.

Also, Toby LITERALLY made them for eachother. They are soulmates.

Asgoriel OTP Soriel Brotp.

Feel free to reblog this, IDC.

Speirton for the ask thing? uwu

• Which one sexts like a straight white boy?  OMG. Both? But in different ways?
Like Lip is just like really vanilla and straightforward whereas Ron is a bit more vulgar and dirty and so it’s would appear awkward but entirely them? Because Ron will say something really dirty, dirty enough to make Lieb blush, and Lip just responds with “okay, then I’ll kiss your neck?”

• Which one cried during a fucking disney movie? Okay, so when it’s their turn to host movie night and Luz’s turn to pick the movie, no one knows what to expect. To be fair, when Luz described the movie to them, it sounded okay enough. Ron glared at Luz when he said the grumpy old man reminded him so much of Ron, only further proving his point. So, during the opening scene, while Ron and Lip are sitting together on the couch, Lip is surprised to feel Ron gripping his hand tightly. He looks at Ron and is surprised once again to see a slow stream of tears falling from his eyes. He looks to the screen again – the old man had just lost his wife – and realizes what Ron is trying to say but can’t, reading between the lines of Ron’s gestures as he always has since the day he met him.
He kisses Ron’s ring clad hand once, twice for good measure, and wipes the tears gently from his husband’s cheeks.
Years later, when they renew their vows, Lip whispers, “You’re my greatest adventure,” into Ron’s ear and memorizes the bright eyes and wide smile he receives in return.

• Who put a goddamned fork in the microwave? It wasn’t Ron’s fault. Okay so it was maybe 80% Ron’s fault, well 85%, fine 90%, but still. He was just trying to make something nice for Lip for breakfast. It was still far too early, their ancient, but perfect, coffee maker hadn’t finished the pot yet and he just needed some melted butter. So, when he opens his sleepy eyes to see a flame burning in the corner of the microwave, he just sighs, grabs their fire extinguisher and puts it out just as the coffee maker sounds that it’s done. He’s slowly drinking the piping hot coffee when Lip shuffles into the kitchen.
Running on autopilot, it takes Lip three long gulps of hot coffee before he notices the mess in and around the microwave.
He looks to Ron, who is steadfastly staring inside his cup, and sighs.
“Do I even want to know?”
“Probably not.”

• Who does the silly hands-over-the-eyes “Guess who” thing? Lip and every time Ron gave a response like “The person who stole the last of my cereal this morning” or “The only person who still does this with their significant other” or “Who? I’ve lost my memory.”
Until one day, one seemingly significantly insignificant day, Lip stalks up to Ron and slides his fingers around Ron’s closed eyes and says, “Guess who?”
Ron grabs the slightly cold hands, slips a slightly colder ring on a finger and says, “My future husband.”

• Who puts their cold hands/feet on their partner? Lip does. He tries to be careful about his feet because once Ron was so startled he jumped and fell off the bed. Ron claims to hate when Lip does it, but Lip always catches the smile when he puts his hands in Ron’s coat or under his shirt to try and warm his own hands.

• Who had that embarrassing Reality TV marathon? Okay, so after Luz and Toye’s apartment has to get remodeled – due to a fire that in no way, shape, or form was Luz’s fault – the two end up staying at Ron and Lip’s until it’s done. Ron comes home early to find Luz playing hooky and completely engrossed in a show on the television. He grabs a drink from the fridge and is about to go to his office when he hears screaming and an absurd amount of beeps coming from the TV. He stops and watches the show for a minute to long because Luz is explaining why the two women in ball gowns are fighting.
“Kenya just accused Portia of cheating on her husband.”
Ron doesn’t look down, just continues watching the fight, “Did she?”
Luz just smiles crookedly and pats the seat next to him on the couch.
When Lip comes home, he finds Toye and Ron screaming at one another about fake hair and counterterrorism.
He looks to Luz in the kitchen and silently asks for an explanation.
“Housewives.” Luz mouths and returns to finish ordering pizza for the four of them.
Lip sighs, sits down on the couch, and relaxes to the sound of his husband and his best friend’s fiancée screaming at each other.

• Who laughs more during sex? It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s because Ron got Lip to say something really dirty and hearing something like that come out of Lip’s mouth never fails to make Ron giggle.

• WHO IS THE LITTLE SPOON? Depends on whose day was worse.

FAQ About the Wander Over Yonder Announcement

Wanted to take the opportunity to answer some of the most popular questions I’ve been getting over the past two days in one big old post.

Is it true?!

Sad to say, yup.  It’s true.  Wander Over Yonder will be ending after seven more episodes with a 22-minute finale some time in June.

WHAT?!  Why?!

Take it easy.  The theory that seems to hold the most water is that WOY has always done better in repeats than it did in premieres.  Like, we’ve had random repeats rate as the best show on the network on some odd weeks.   I think that Disney decided that 80 pieces of Wander content (between individual cartoons, 22s, and the shorts) was enough that they could keep repeating them without a noticeable impact and draw the same ratings without spending more on new episodes.  And while we have been doing better in premieres this season, this decision was made before Season 2 even premiered.

DOUBLE WHAT?! When did you guys know?

A week after we got nominated for an Emmy, a week before “The Greater Hater” aired, seven months before we won the Annie for Outstanding Children’s programming, eight months before “I’m the Bad Guy” went crazy viral…

Why didn’t you say anything?

Honestly?  Because we’re Wander Over Yonder. We thrive on hope. I think somewhere deep down I’ve been hoping Disney would reconsider.  And we’re so proud of this season that we wanted people to give it a fighting chance instead of dismissing it as “that show that’s probably gonna end soon.”

And it’s not over yet! Dominator is cutting a flaming, icy swath of destruction across the cosmos and it’s up to Wander, Sylvia, Lord Hater, and Peepers to save the galaxy!

DISNEY IS A MONSTER!  I’m gonna go break my Wreck-It Ralph Blu-ray in half!

Don’t do that!  That’s a good movie featuring some very charming and handsome voice actors!

Guys, Disney actually made two seasons of this show in the first place.  80 Wander Over Yonder stories.  Yes, we had more stories to tell. Yes, we’re bummed.  But when all things are said and done, Disney probably spent more on making The Cartoon/The Bot than they did on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. That’s insane.

I heard you guys had a Season 3 arc in mind, with some backstory and a new status quo.  Will you at least tell us what it was about?

Nope.

NOW YOU ARE THE MONSTERS!  Why not?

Because Hey Arnold just got a finale movie fifteen years after it ended.  And Samurai Jack is coming back.  And Gilmore Girls is returning.  And…

For the record, I’m not saying we’ve been given any indication whatsoever that Disney could change their minds.  We just like the story too much to blow it on a Tumblr post.

Are you guys still gonna post on Tumblr?

Disney didn’t cancel our internet accounts.  Yeah, of course we’ll be around throughout the rest of the season, and we’ve all got a lot of cool stuff going on through the end of the season and beyond.

What can we, the fans, do? Never hurts to help, right?

See, this is why we love you guys.

The best thing you can do is love the show.  Watch it, rewatch it (I hear it repeats very well), sketch it, fanfic it, ship it, cosplay it, sing the songs, tell your friends about it, make it a thing even after it’s gone, and never forget it.

Everybody who worked hard on this show did it because we believe in Craig and what he wanted to say with Wander.  We believe the darkest of times calls for the sunniest of smiles, a little bit of silliness can save the galaxy, and everyone deserves a friend.  Even maniacal electrical skeleton men.

I know things seem rough now, but remember:  If the darkness comes a creepin’, and you’re feelin’ down, just Wander Over Yonder and turn your life around…

A guide to German endearments

Why the hell am I doing this: I have been in the Weißkreuz fandom when the world was still younger and now I’m into Charles Xavier / Erik Lehnsherr and I regularly cringe at what some authors get from google translate. So to clear that up:

The direct translation of ‘love’, 'Liebe’, is never used as an endearment. You can say ‘meine Liebe (female) / mein Lieber (male)’ to address someone in spoken language, but it sounds either sarcastic or oldfashioned if not plain weird. It’s more usual to use it with a name (like e.g. ‘meine liebe Lisa/ mein lieber Richard’). This is all pretty platonic and if used in speech it sounds kind of formal and dramatic, because it’s usually used as an opening for letters to adress literally anyone with whom you are somewhat familiar.

Read more for a pretty complete list of common German endearments and their use and meanings.

This is what happens when I start writing Star Trek conspiracy theories at 4 AM

So, I know this news had been circling around a few weeks ago. Apparently some of Gene Roddenberry’s old floppy disks from the 80′s were discovered and people have been working to recover the data from a processor no longer in use, hopefully in time for the 50th anniversary.  http://www.cinemablend.com/television/Tons-Rare-Star-Trek-Data-Recovered-From-Gene-Roddenberry-Floppy-Disks-109147.html

No one knows what’s on the disks yet so far, however, I’ve been giving the matter some thought. Now, anyone who follows me knows how I feel regarding a certain power slash couple. I have a theory that Gene Roddenberry might have been toying with the idea of making said ship canon. Now before people say that is just wishful thinking, hear me out.

Fact: During the last season of the original series, George Takei approached Roddenberry asking when Star Trek was going to tackle LGBT rights/gay characters. According to Takei, Roddenberry said he was open to the idea, but that the show was treading on thin ice as it was (the interracial kiss episode had the lowest ratings and was banned in the South). Gene had wanted to keep the show on the air as long as possible since he wanted to talk have episodes exploring the war in Vietnam, sexism, racism, etc. and he thought (with pretty good reason) that having an episode with openly gay characters would be the final ax for Star Trek. In a nutshell, he wanted to do it, but was understandably afraid the studio would cancel Star Trek if he did.

Fact: Roddenberry has been quoted on two separate occasions regarding Kirk and Spock’s relationship. I’ll link a blog that analyzes the topic in more depth (the quotes are towards the bottom).  http://thylaa.tumblr.com/post/41517288494/more-short-answer-officially-kirk-and-spock

Speculation: It looks as through Gene Roddenberry may have had an evolving stance on them being romantic. Kirk and Spock were definitely designed in the early beginning as “just friends”, but their interactions become closer/more intimate and feelings deeper (at this point, nothing is outright stated or explicitly implied lest TPTB find anything offensive.) Whether this bonding was coincidence or intentional is unknown. There was an underground group of fans who shipped them and wrote fics about them at some point as early as the 70′s, after the original run, however, it is unknown if they may have existed before then. Whether Roddenberry became aware of them or their viewpoint at some time during the show’s original airing is unknown.

Fact: By 1979, when The Motion Picture came out, Roddenberry had penned a novelization where he created a Vulcan word that heavily implied Spock at least thought of Jim in a probable romantic light (he also wrote a sly little “footnote” where Kirk plays verbal fizzbin to dance around the question while seemingly deny it. This was most likely done to placate any fans who might be seriously object to Kirk and/or Spock possibly being gay while at the same time, giving a wink to those who do ship them. Interesting to note is that in the novel, Spock hears Kirk’s thoughts across space and Kirk compares their touching of their minds as more intimate than Vulcan pon farr (make of that what you will).

Fact: During the 80′s when The Next Generation was on the air, Roddenberry stated that the time was right for a gay character and that the show would have an openly gay couple. For unknown reasons, this never panned out. There have been a lot of finger pointing as to why that was (some blame Rick Berman being a homophobe censoring episodes, some blame Gene’s lawyer who was acting as his mouthpiece in later years). A script had been written by David Gerrold, which was mostly about an AIDS allegory, but the project was rewritten and pushed back over and over until finally scrapped.

Fact: Roddenberry unfortunately passed away in 1991. He had worked on the first 6 Trek movies, and on TNG for that year (he passed on around the time the two part episode “Unification” aired (middle of season 5).

I state that last bit for a reason. Roddenberry worked on/was aware of two separate projects both involving Spock. Star Trek IV showed Sarek and Spock finally reconciling after decades of estrangement. It is probably safe to say that Spock’s death in Wrath of Khan probably devastated Sarek and when Spock was brought back to life, Sarek realized that they both were being given a rare second chance. So Sarek and Spock’s relationship was no longer strained and they were on good terms with one another by the end of the movies.

Fast forward to TNG. In the episode “Sarek” we learn that Sarek is suffering from a degenerative illness which causes him to lose control of his emotions and even act enraged or wild. After melding with Picard, we see Picard take on Sarek’s memories/emotions essentially becoming Sarek temporarily. Picard later comments on all of the pain and regrets Sarek carries with him. As Sarek, Picard had spoken about how he wanted to show his wives (Perrin and Amanda) tenderness and if they new how much he loved them. He mentions Spock’s name, but nothing else, or at least nothing specific to him. So we know he has some pain/regret regarding his son, but at this time, we don’t know what.

After the reconciliation in movie IV, in the unseen later years, we learn from Perrin that Sarek and Spock still had arguments, but from Perrin’s statements, these were never taken personally, “that was family”, so probably the typical political discussions family members on good terms with each other may have around dinner. But at some point, Spock publicly “attacked” Sarek’s position on the Cardassian War and “showed no loyalty”. We have absolutely no idea what was said between them or what exactly they disagreed on; all we know is that Spock and Sarek were estranged again after that. Perrin says that she made sure Spock knew that she was offended by his actions towards his father.

Now wait a damn minute… just what the hell happened that Sarek and Spock went from loving father and son in movie 4 to verbally ripping each other’s throats out years later? That makes zero sense! Now I can see the two of them debating publicly (they’re both ambassadors), but the idea that either one of them would allow another large rift to develop between them again after coming within a hair’s breath of being lost to each other forever, seems incredibly petty or just plain bad writing.

We also know from Perrin that Spock lived either with or very close by to Sarek since she also knew that Spock had made sure to make all his necessary arrangements before leaving. We also know that he didn’t bother to say goodbye to his father either. His father, we find out later, who Spock knew was suffering from severe Bendii’s syndrome.

Was this political argument really that awful that they became estranged all over again? I don’t buy it.

So here’s my theory. I believe that Roddenberry had an idea that Spock and Sarek split up again because Sarek discovered Spock’s more than platonic feelings/relationship with Kirk. I believe that in his secret writings, Gene was already penning a side story to be done in later seasons of TNG, where Picard and crew meet up with Spock again and discover this truth (possibly in conjunction to another related story while finally putting all the debates to bed within the fandom). Remember, this was still the late 80′s/early 90′s, and LGBT people were still viewed as much lower and with fewer rights than straight people. It wasn’t as bad as the 50′s/60′s, but it was still pretty bad, so this was definitely a social issue that Roddenberry would have loved Star Trek to go into depth with if he thought he could get away with it.

Now, Roddenberry used Star Trek to portray an optimistic future where humans would have evolved past hating people for such differences, so I doubt that any humans in Trek would see being gay as an issue at all. However, original Star Trek’s MO was to comment on current social issues through the use of aliens as stand-ins for 20th century humans. I think that was where Roddenberry might have been going with Spock. Vulcan, whose society upholds logic as tantamount above all emotions and whose culture is steeped in tradition, I do not see as accepting such things as an openly gay Vulcan. They may see sexual orientation as biological and out of one’s control, but they would probably condemn anyone who acted on that orientation, since seeking out a same-sex mate is entirely motivated by emotion (love) and not for any obvious logical purpose (procreation). I think Roddenberry might have wanted to use the Vulcans as a stand in for modern human society, who claim to be tolerant but at the same time treated their own as social pariahs for straying from “the one true path” (of logic)

We know that Vulcans are not above banishing Vulcans who are deemed too emotional (Sybok) and Spock was bullied relentlessly for being half-human (Journey to Babel, Yesteryear), so could you imagine? For these reasons, Spock might have deemed it necessary to stay in the closet most of his life. Vulcans in TNG still may have viewed such Vulcans with contempt for acting on “baser instincts” or “indulging in hedonism” or something to that affect. Spock would be the representation for the LGBT people at the time who feel trapped by their true identity because of society’s expectations. And because Spock is such an icon and beloved by all fans, he would be the perfect ambassador (pun intended) to represent the LGBT community. He’s not a campy stereotype that would later become typical on tv during the 90′s/2000′s. Spock is intelligent, logical, skilled, sensitive, humorous, gentle, strong, courageous, loyal and many other traits too long to list. Those qualities do not become null and void by finding out that he is gay as well, and that is exactly the kind of lesson people could have used back then (and even still need today in some places).

I also think that Sarek and the Bendeii Syndrome was meant to play a pivotal role in this lesson, since he would be meant to represent the voice of the older, less inclusive generation. Obviously, people who grew up with Sarek and knowing and loving his character might not respond well with him acting like an outright bigot, so the Bendeii Syndrome was created as a way to explain any out of character behavior. So in this hypothetical unproduced episode, Spock recalls that Sarek discovered the truth about Spock’s love for Kirk, and Sarek (due to the beginnings of the Bendeii Syndrome) probably said some less than flattering things on the subject. Spock, as anyone who is familiar with the show, tends to throw logic out the window when Captain Kirk is threatened. Taking these words as a personal insult, Spock lashes back. Yes, it is emotional, but as we’ve seen in later movies, Spock learned to embrace his human half and has even done some pretty illogical, somewhat violent things when provoked enough (Undiscovered Country: When finding out of Valaris’s betrayal, Spock is viably infuriated, smacks the phaser out of her hand and forces a mindmeld. Again, this is all severe anger at his own protege because her actions put Kirk in danger).

Perrin, not being witness to their earlier encounter, erroneously assumed that Spock’s verbal attack was at face value over to the Cardassian War, when it was actually fueled by Spock’s anger/disappointment in Sarek seeming to reject Spock once again for his lifestyle and not being exactly what Sarek hoped for. When the truth about the Bendeii Syndrome comes to light, the damage has already been done emotionally. Spock understands that Sarek was probably not himself at the time, but because of Spock’s undying loyalty/ love/ devotion to Kirk, he cannot bring himself to ever forgive Sarek. Spock may even rationalize to himself that the illness didn’t plant ideas in his head, but merely brought Sarek’s “true” emotions to the surface (disgust/ hatred/ disappointment/ etc). That’s the reason why Spock didn’t bother to say farewell to his dying father in “Unification”. It is also the reason why Spock didn’t believe Picard at first when Picard said that Sarek loved Spock.

And it would also explain Sarek’s last words before his death: “Spock… I’m sorry.” (these words make no sense if we accept Perrin’s words as fact, which state that Spock was the one who initiated hostilities with Sarek first).

That is my theory, and I believe it fits it well with what we know of the production timeline and Roddenberry’s words on the subject matter. Unfortunately, if this theory is true, this vision never came to pass since no one knew of it and Roddenberry died before the end of the season. Instead, years later fans are given the TNG movie “Generations” where Kirk fantasizes about marrying a woman no one has ever met, and on a whim, Spock is paired up with the only female character despite both characters having less than a handful of shared scenes interacting together in the original series.

Well, what do you guys think? It is currently 4:45 am. I’m going to see about getting an hour and a half of sleep before I have to get ready for work.

prompt; He still has a sketchbook full of drawings of Caroline and she finds it - thank you x

Okay, so this thing got crazy (12K and not done!) as my things unfortunately do sometimes that snowballed from a silly idea about Klaus and Caroline being total trolls and breaking into each other’s places. It includes a couple of my inbox prompts but this is the only one in this first chunk. There’s a little bit of side Kolenzo alluded to (apparently I can literally ship Enzo with everyone).

Why Can’t I Get (Part One)

If only her mother could see her now. Liz Forbes would have a lot to say seeing Caroline silently creeping through a darkened estate, dressed in sleek black clothes. She cringed thinking about the disappointed face she would have surely been on the receiving end of if her mother were still alive.

The breaking and entering wasn’t even the worst part. It was the fact that Caroline was doing it in the company of two vampires who were pretty firmly the ‘bad’ kind. Plus, they were completely unapologetic about it, took great pleasure in mayhem and the whole eating people thing.

Enzo had an excuse, mourning Bonnie as he was. They might have separated years and years ago, once it became clear that Bonnie wanted a little human normalcy, a career, maybe a husband and a couple of kids. Not things she could have with Enzo. He’d loved her even if he’d accepted her choice and Bonnie’s death, at the ripe old age of 87, followed quickly by Damon (and Stefan) taking the cure to become human had been a lot for him to deal with. When he’d shown up on her doorway, single duffle bag in hand, Caroline had immediately directed him to her second bedroom. And then she’d fished out her very best bourbon.

Healthy? Probably not. Good thing they didn’t have to worry about their livers deteriorating. As far as coping mechanisms went it seemed like vampires were limited to booze and violence and Caroline thought alcohol was the better option. Enzo was game to try though he soon got restless and Caroline had rolled with it, decided she didn’t mind tearing up the tentative roots she’d set down in Toronto. They’d grabbed the first available flight, had ended up in Italy.

That explained Enzo. Kol was just… Kol. He liked to say he was celebrating his return to the living but he’d been back for like eight decades now. How much celebrating could he actually do?

Stupid question, Caroline knew. Kol loved a good party, and himself, with an intensity that was something to marvel at.

The fall of Marius

Marius At Minturnae, Jean Germain Drouais

At the end of the Social War Sulla was elected Consul for 88 BC just as war with Mithradates was breaking out. Mithradates took control of Asia Minor, slaughtering Roman citizens by the thousands. Sulla, in his senior Consular position was appointed to command the campaign, but the aged Gaius Marius desperately sought the command for himself. Opposed by the Senate, Marius was unsuccessful through traditional methods, and Sulla assembled his legions and began the march to the east.

All right, I've been thinking about this for a while. I don't mean to sound rude or bitchy, but I'm really just curious. Why do you like cresswell so much? I love the lunar chronicles and I can find appeal in every couple, but I never really liked cress and thorne's relationship. First of all, they just seem like a stereotypical ya white couple to me, where the girl has been obsessed with the boy for most of her life, but then she meets the boy and he falls in love with her. (Part 1)

Hmm. There are many reasons why I love Cresswell, but I think the biggest reason is that I just love those individual characters so much. Cress is the most precious little cinnamon roll and I loved her right away when she made her brief appearance in Cinder. And well, I have a weakness for reformed bad boys and pirates with a heart of gold in YA so how could I not love Thorne?

Out of all of the ships in TLC, Cresswell had the biggest and strongest arc, both in terms of their individual characters and as a whole. Cress started out as this scared, sheepish girl who was completely overwhelmed by the sky and then she turns into this badass who infiltrates Artemisia Palace, brings down the queen’s security system, and runs into the heart of a battle even though she’s scared out of her mind. Thorne starts out being a completely selfish fugitive who was in jail for stealing - literally benefitting nothing and no-one, but himself, but by the end of Winter he’s literally sacrificing his own life so that Cress could be safe and so Levana wouldn’t win. I think that they’ve always had these amazing qualities inside of them and given time, they would discover them, but I also think that Cress and Thorne bring out the best in each other and what is better in a relationship than being with someone who makes you be better?

I also loved that their relationship wasn’t love at first sight. I mean, it was for Cress, but then she took the time to know Thorne and I think it was important that he rejected her to begin with because he was right - she didn’t know him at all. If you think about it, Kaider basically liked each other as soon as they met and literally had three conversations before the whole disaster that was the Eastern Commonwealth Peace Ball. Three. And then he throws her in jail, she escapes, they don’t talk to each other until the end of Cress when Cinder kidnaps Kai and then make out in the engine room on the Rampion and I’m suppose to think that is healthier than Cresswell? And again, Wolf basically fell in love with Scarlet as soon as she opened her mouth and even after Scarlet thought Wolf’s gang had kidnapped her grandmother, she trusts him enough to travel with him to another city. Then she sees him nearly kill a man for the second time in two days and has to shoot him to stop him, and then she’s kissing him on the train. Again, how is that more healthy that Cresswell? And I think everyone knows my opinions on Jacinter and that relationship is definitely not healthier than Cresswell.

Yes, Cress was in love with Thorne before they met, but I don’t necessarily think that is unhealthy. She was a lonely 16-year-old girl who had a crush on a “celebrity.” There is no harm in that. Sure, there are plenty of ways that relationship could have panned out that would have made my skin crawl, but it didn’t. Thorne took care of Cress, was kind and gentle with her, trusted her to get them to safety, let himself be vulnerable. Cress found strength in herself because someone was depending on her and then she realized that she could and would save herself. They actually had real conversations and got to know each other before any kissing happened. And then when they did, it was epic and grand and romantic and a little bit reckless. Okay, a lot bit reckless, but aren’t all great romantic kisses suppose to be?

I love that their relationship was full of all the things that make for a great, epic, romance - something that Cress has always known they were destined to have. There was action, adventure, and near death experiences. There was jealousy and and fierce words, but also fierce kisses and heartache. They had their tender moments and they had their passionate ones.

To address your points more specifically, I don’t know what a “stereotypical YA white couple” is, but yes, Cress was obsessed with Thorne, but for like a week, and then she met him and actually started to get to know him. I think that if Thorne turned out to truly be a cad and not the person that Cress had fantasized about, she would have had the sense to amend her mistakes, but that’s just the thing. Even though Thorne wasn’t really the person Cress made up in her mind, he did prove himself to be kind and heroic and exactly the person that Cress knew he could be. And Thorne didn’t just fall in love with her because he was suppose to. In fact, he didn’t even like her romantically. It wasn’t until he got to know her that he started liking her and we still don’t know when he actually started being in love with her.

Technically in Cress, Cress is 16 and Thorne is 20, but lets move on. No, I don’t think a four year age gap is that horrible. Okay, IRL I would probably frown upon that, but when she’s 18 and he’s 22, who cares? Besides, I think we can all agree that Cress is much more mature than Thorne, so it works out. And yes, the fact that Cress is young and sweet and inexperienced does raise some concerns, but we’ve seen Thorne be perfectly respectful on that count. I definitely don’t see Thorne taking advantage of Cress. In fact, I think he would be the one more scared about making their relationship physical. Sure, they can have hot make out sessions every now and then, but I think Thorne would try his very hardest to be responsible because he is trying to prove to everyone that he deserves her and I think that is much more healthy than Cress being with some 16-year-old horn dog.

And I know I’ve complained about the whole flirting thing in SOSN before, but that is mainly because of my frustration with the story in general. I just think everything that happened in that story was extremely unrealistic (and made me roll my eyes too many times) and I kind of wish I could scrub it from my brain. Nothing about the whole flirting thing would have bothered me if MM had included a line of Thorne flirting with Cress or kissing her or something after that conversation. So now that I have convinced myself that SOSN isn’t canon, my headcanon is that Thorne continues to flirt with anything on two legs (and inanimate objects because he definitely still flirts with the Rampion), but he directs 80% of his flirting onto Cress and that is the perfect arrangement for them.

Sorry this was incredibly long, but they’re my OTP and I will go down with that ship. When it comes right down to it, Cresswell simply gives me feels. There’s really just this deep emotional reaction to them and it makes me happy and it makes me want them to be happy and isn’t that what love really is?

Do itt ❤️❤️😻😻

Hello everybody! I just got back from Comic-con and after review of my finances I realized that I’m severely in the red for the month and that I owe my dad like 400 dollars, so I figured now would be a good time to send out a post asking for help/selling old stuff to try to pull myself out of this post-con-depreciation I’ve seemed to have fallen into. Looking back on it, I probably should have budgeted better, and I thought I did! But all of the money I had saved up for it ended up being used by my dad for things so I really need help now.

For those of you who don’t know who I am, Hello my name is Hanari and I’m the cosplayer who looked like this all throughout NYCC:

You probably saw me. If you didn’t well, I wish you would have! I think I looked pretty cool! Long story short is that I’m a cosplayer and I cosplay a lot of things, and I plan on continuing to cosplay a lot of things in the near and far future. I see cosplaying as something I can make a career out of, so if you like my cosplays and want to help support me in my day-to-day cosplaying life, there’s a really neat DONATE button on the front page of my blog over to the left hand side. I’d sure as hell appreciate any and all help.

But this post isn’t about donations. This post is about me giving something back to you guys! I have a lot of extra cosplay and costuming crap in my closet, and with Halloween coming up around the corner and NYCC over, I figure now is probably the best time to get rid of anything I don’t want anymore. So without any further ado, let’s see what i’ve got for you guys!

The Fellowship of the Ring - Book 2, Chapter 02: THE COUNCIL OF ELROND (PART 1)
[ Introduction post! ] [ a LOTR book blogging project ]

AND NOW WE GET TO THE GOOD STUFF.  By which I mean when Legolas shows up and Elrond talks about shit that happened in the Second Age and Tolkien drops a whole lot of the vaguest info dumping I have ever fucking seen and I am fervently glad I am not going in blind because, holy shit, I would have been so goddamned lost.

I’m briefly going out of order, because this was my favorite bit of the first half of this chapter:

Sauron also sent a messenger to Brand in Dale (after sending a messenger to Dain Ironfoot in Erebor), which made me immediately wonder, well, but how about Thranduil in Mirkwood?  And maybe it’s just that Tolkien didn’t write much about Thranduil.  Though, honestly, I don’t think that’s it, he’s mentioned several times in this chapter and the next, it’s not like Mirkwood was undefined in Tolkien’s mind to the point that he would skip over something like that.

I mean, maybe the Dwarves just didn’t know if Thranduil had gotten a messenger or not, but we see that they’re on fairly civil terms, we know Thranduil absolutely deals with the Dwarves, we see both sides are reasonable when dealing with the Enemy and, hell, if nothing else, Dale would have been the go-between.  If Sauron had sent a messenger to Mirkwood, they would have mentioned it to Brand and Brand would have mentioned it to the Dwarves.

No, instead I’m pretty sure it’s because the thought of Sauron sending a messenger to Thranduil in Mirkwood made me LAUGH REALLY, REALLY HARD.

Just imagine it!  A servant of the Enemy marching up to the Wood-Elves and saying, heyyyyyy, so, you wanna join up with us?  We’ve got some really cool party gifts and all!  Shhhhh, never mind the thousands of your Elves we’ve killed over the years and in the Battle of the Last Alliance, I mean, I know you were actually there for that and have spent the last 3,000 years since then trying to stop us from poisoning your forest, but, hey, we’ve got some awesome bling just like that Noldo used to make?  :D?  What do you say?  :D?

The Elves fucking would have said “FUCK OFF, DICKFACE”, then cut off the head of the messenger and drop-kicked that shit all the way back to Mordor.

Every time I think about a messenger of Sauron daring to ask for an audience with King Thranduil, yeah, I lose my shit because there’s no way that wound end in ANYTHING other than a head rolling right back out the door.  Beautiful.

Okay, back to going in order now, honest.
