No One Said I Couldn't (Newt x Reader)
Another month, another greenie, another bonfire, which meant another dozen wrestling matches and another dozen injured gladers. It gets boring after a while. Same people always win thinking they’re some indestructible heroes. It’s funny really, seeing them buff their chest and throw their arms up in victory. Newt, the closest friend I have, and I love taking the mick out of them, saying that when it came to fighting grievers, they’d run away crying which was most likely true.
Newt and I stood amongst the other guys as we watched the fighting. We were both so unimpressed as Gally threw the Greenie, Matt I think, to the ground. He raised his arms up like a champion while Matt coughed out the sand he had in his mouth.
“Get over yourself Gally,” I rolled my eyes as Newt snickered beside me folding his arms. He glared at me but I wasn’t bothered. I got used to his behaviour pretty quickly.
“You think you can do better?” he scoffed.
“Let someone else have a shot. It gets pretty boring watching you dance about you know.”
Newt let out a low laugh followed by some other guys joining in. I could tell I irritated him with the comment as he strode towards me.
“You think she’s funny?” He asked looking at Newt pointing a finger at me. I looked up at him and couldn’t help but smirk as he nodded a ‘yes’ still chuckling a bit.
“Fine. I’ll ‘let someone else have a shot.’ You two should try it.”
“As you wish,” I replied, grabbing Newt by his arm. Gally stood where we were a second ago watching us with a very pissed-off yet attentive frown.
I looked over at Gally as we got ready and then focused on Newt who was clearly prepared.
“You’re dead,” I muttered as I charged into him earning a slight sound of pain. I thought I got him but he was clearly stronger as I found him lifting me up and over his shoulder. I pounded my fists against his back but it didn’t do much for me so I changed my tactic. I lifted myself slightly so that my mouth was beside his ear and I bit it earning laughs and ‘ooh’s’ from the other gladers. He let go instantly at the surprise and I fell behind him to the ground.
“You just bit me?!” He breathed in disbelief holding onto his ear.
“No one said I couldn’t.” I defended myself smugly. I supported myself onto my elbows in an attempt to get up but Newt was faster as he jumped over me. I kicked one of his legs and quickly turned him over so that now he was on the bottom. I held his wrists above his head while I gained my breathe back. We stayed like this for a while until he suddenly leaned up and pressed his lips onto mine. Everything around us went still and silent. It made me feel a feeling that was too powerful to be described. Before I knew it he pulled away and turned me over again while I was distracted.
“Hey, that’s not fair!” I argued, struggling under his strength.
“No one said I couldn’t,” he mocked me with a wink. I chuckled as I realised that he basically made my own move on me. He was too smart for me. We breathed heavily as he kept hold of my arms.
Ignoring the teasing sounds and comments from our friends he leaned down and kissed me again. For longer, much longer. I smiled when he let go of my wrists and put his hands on my cheeks. I returned the gesture and lifted my head to deepen the kiss.
Newt pulled away breathing heavily. He smiled down at me.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do this,” he sighed happily.
