i wanted to see if i could and yes i can a little

3

Your heart was pounding profusely, as you held your gaze on the screen.

It only took a few minutes before you got a response, and once you did, you were beyond mortified.

Frantically, you went back to your Instagram and found the comment Bonnie left on your picture. She had given you her number, but you accidentally mixed up the last two numbers.

Which brought you here.

Looking at the cute little selfie you received, you couldn’t believe your eyes.

Not only did you text the wrong number, but you texted Jensen freaking Ackles. The actor you had crushed on for years.

You texted back the emoji, not knowing what to say.

And as the seconds passed, it didn’t take long for you to get another reply.

‘Isn’t it a little late for a bath? I mean, shouldn’t you be in bed? Lol.’

You let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding. This was so surreal. How did you manage to text your celebrity crush, was beyond anything you could imagine.

For a moment, you thought you should just apologize and then throw your phone and pretend it never happened, but then you decided to continue the conversation with him. I mean, it’s not everyday you get to talk to Jensen.

'It’s never too late for a bubble bath, especially when there’s wine. But what about you? Why aren’t you in bed?’

Suddenly, you felt a little flirtatious. Maybe it was the alcohol. Whatever it was, you didn’t seem to mind.

Taking a sip of your wine, you waited for his response. Thinking of a million things all at once. You had to pinch yourself to see if you were dreaming.

'Alcohol makes everything better. 😉
I can’t sleep. My name is Jensen by the way.’

'I’m Y/N.’

And just like that, you two were texting back and forth for what seemed like forever.

You talked about work and movies and basically everything you could think of. You also talked about your job and the fact that you were a fan of his show. Even when you were done with the bath and now snuggled up in bed.

Somehow, you were both feeling something between you two. Feeling a pull that made you want to keep the conversation going even though you two had only talked this one time. Like two close friends catching up.

But then you saw the time, and suddenly were brought back to reality. You couldn’t believe you were texting him for three hours straight!

'Damn, it’s super late!’ You texted Jensen.

'Didn’t know we were talking for that long. Lol. Guess that happens when you’re having fun. 😉’

You felt your stomach flutter. Giving you a warm sensation throughout your body.

'Well, I better get some sleep. Have another long day tomorrow.’

Once you sent that text, you were a bit bummed. Not wanting it to end, but you were fighting your eyes to stay open.

'Hey…there’s something I want to ask you before you go.’ He replied.

You were a bit hesitant, but curious.

'What’s up?’

Those three dots appeared on the screen, making you hold your breath with anticipation.

'Can you send a selfie? Want to put a face to the legs. Lol’

And just like that, you felt nervous. Nauseas even. You were always insecure, but having Jensen ask for a picture, especially without makeup, you were scared.

Scared of what he might think. Or say.

'Please?’ You received another text.

You let out a sigh, and caved. Holding the blanket close to you, you snapped a quick selfie. The flash from your phone, made your eyes glossy. You were laying on your side, with your hair laid across your pillow and a soft smile that seemed shy yet inviting. But you sent the picture before you could even talk yourself out of it.

Three dots on the screen, came and gone. Suddenly you panicked.

Maybe he didn’t like the picture? Or maybe he didn’t think you were pretty? Whatever it was, you were now regretting ever sending him the picture.

Wishing you never even sent the first text to begin with.

You locked your phone and closed your eyes, wincing at the thoughts of what you imagined was going through his head.

Until your phone vibrated.

'Fuck, you’re beautiful.’

Your lips curved into a cheeky grin, and a squeal escaped from you.

Though you wanted to keep talking, you also wanted to play it cool.

'Well I enjoyed our conversation. It was fun.’

'Me too. I haven’t had that much fun talking to anyone in a long time. So thank you.’

'Good night, Jensen.’

'Good night, sweet heart. Hopefully next time we will talk on the phone instead of this texting crap. I hate texting. lol.’

Your smile felt like it curved even more. But you were sure it wasn’t even possible. Jensen Ackles wanted to talk to you again. But this time, you would hear his deep, rough voice. It made your stomach flutter from just the thought.

'Lol, maybe. If you’re lucky 😉 now go to sleep Mr. Ackles. It’s passed your bed time.’

'Yes ma'am. Good night.’

BTS BUTTERFLY EFFECT THEORY

Okay so couple weeks ago I watched the movie butterfly effect and with the last highlight reel I’m basically sure about this theory.

So, for the ones who have not seen the movie it goes like this (I strongly recommend you watch the movie though);

A boy named Evan, goes through hard times during his childhood and his teenage years. But he cannot remember these key moments in his life he blacks out and wakes up after everything is done. He starts writing down everything in his journals so he can keep track of everything.

Later in his life he realizes that he has the power to go back in time and undone his and his friends’ mistakes. He does this by looking through his journals and recalling the memories he must go back to. He goes back dozens of times but every time he undoes something, another one goes wrong. In a surprising turn, he finds out his dad had the same abilities and his dad did the same in his lifetime by looking at the PHOTOS he took. YES photos. Does it sound familiar? Because it should. Who do we see always taking vids and pics throughout the whole HYYH + WINGS eras?

Jin is Evan in their story, trying to save the boys over and over again, trying to make everything right. See also, how exhausted Jin looks in the end of the most recent highlight reel. He’s been trying to save these boys for so long.

‘Coincidentally’ one of the times Evan uses this ability in the movie is when the girl he loves commits suicide and he goes back to save her. Which we see Jin do in Highlight Reel 3. Whenever Evan goes back in time and changes something their lives change, things disappear, the way their lives go change, but there are always reoccurring scenes. Throughout HYYH and Wings there are scenes we see too often but always in different settings. Almost like these things happen but in parallel universes. The parallel universes that Jin creates every time he goes back in time to save the boys. Few of them are;

Taehyung with wall painting and graffiti

Taehyung getting arrested

Yoongi with his fire obsession and his piano

Jimin with water

Hoseok with pills

Jimin / Hoseok in hospitals

Jimin drowning / in or around bathtubs

Namjoon with a lollipop

Namjoon with phone boxes

And of course, the obvious; couples

The never-ending connections between Jungkook/Yoongi, Jimin/Hoseok and Namjoon/Taehyung which not so surprisingly leaves out Jin, because he’s the one trying to save them.

In MVs there are a lot of scenes implying the butterfly effect itself for instance

In highlight reel Jin said: “Yesterdays many encounters and goodbyes existed for this moment. Every alley and crossroad I walked through were all meant to lead me to this place.” Saying that every little thing done in the past led him to the place he is now, which is basically the definition of butterfly effect.

Or for instance in I Need U Japanese Version MV when Jungkook burns the flower in his hand, the camera instantly cuts to the photo of the same flower behind Yoongi starting burn as well, meaning Jungkook’s actions affect Yoongi’s life.

There are a lot of butterfly imagery in the MVs as well. Not even mentioning there’s a song called Butterfly and one of the album’s name is WINGS.

So, let’s talk about hyyh1 and hyyh2. My theory is that HYYH2 could be a different reliving of HYYH1 where Jin had to go back in time because well, our boys fucked up. With Taehyung killing his father/ brother, Hoseok swallowing those pills, Jungkook getting in a car crash, Yoongi burning himself in his hotel room and Jimin drowning himself. HYYH2 with Run MV is Jin’s another attempt so save these 6 boys. Also at the end of BS&T Japanese Version we see Jin going to the place Namjoon works and saying, “Long time, no see” where Namjoon is startled to see Jin. This could also contribute to the theory that after everything went downhills in BS&T jap verse, Jin fighting with Taehyung included, Jin had to try again.

I believe their hairstyles and colors as well as their clothing style changes between I Need U and Run eras to imply a different universe, but we can never be sure.

I want to note that in Run MV where the boys are vandalizing the cars in the tunnel Jin is the only one sitting in the car not doing anything and when they start to run he’s the one who gets them out of trouble, he’s the one who’s waiting to save them.

If we tie things with the Korean version BS&T MV it explains the duality of the universes. Jin sees another dimension through the mirror in the end of BS&T which could be tied to HYYH era as every time Jin tries to save the boys he creates another universe. BS&T also shows the evil temptations the boys are facing and Jin once again sacrificing himself and saving the boys.

Also coming to the Highlight Reels, to me, as the whole story is still connected to the book Demian by Hermann Hesse, the girls represent their Beatrices. In the book, Sinclair thought he had fallen for a girl he saw in a park and named Beatrice. He thought about her as the days went on and finally decided to paint a picture of her. As he painted he realized what he was drawing resembled no longer a girl but the face of a young man. He finished the painting only to realize he had drawn Demian. Because Demian was the one he was longing for. The pairings Jimin/Jhope, Jungkook/Yoongi and Taehyung/Namjoon are Sinclair and Demian to each other.

the demian connections were also said by @/angelakiss_tale on twitter so kudos to them for making me realize.

I’ll add things as I connect the dots, I’ve still yet to understand all the individual stories told in Highlight Reels. Especially Jihope+the girl story dumbfounded me.

Introduction: Hi! I’m Annie, I recently graduated as valedictorian of a class of almost 700, and I’m about to be a freshman at Johns Hopkins (go blue jays!!). High school was some of the best and worst moments of my life, and looking back, there are so many things that I wish I’d done and things that made me successful, so I wanted to share them! Of course, disclaimer, these tips may not apply to everyone!

(These tips generally apply to all classes, but if you have a specific subject you want tips on, I’ve taken these AP courses: european history, world history, us gov’t, macroeconomics, lang, lit, calc ab, chemistry, physics 1, physics c, environmental science, art: drawing, biology, human geography, chinese, and art history. Feel free to message me!)

College applications are a crapshoot- I can’t begin to tell you the number of incredible, brilliant people with extraordinary, international level achievements that got denied at top schools in favor of those lacking those accomplishments. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean those who got in don’t have qualities that earned them a spot, it just speaks to the unpredictable nature of the college application process. When deans of admission at top schools openly say they could reject all admitted students and build the same exemplary class from the waitlist, or that they have enough qualified applicants to fill 3 or 4 classes with, there’s a certain amount of luck involved. Therefore I urge all rising seniors to go into this process realizing that the odds are not in your favor. I went into the process with too much blind hope, too confident in my ability to be that lucky 1 in 10 (or less) that would gain admission, and I was sorely disappointed. So that leads me to my next tip…

Don’t do things just for your college application- Those slim acceptance rates are the exact reason I urge you not to join things solely for how good they look on a college application. It seems counterintuitive; wouldn’t they give you a better chance of acceptance? However, my point is not to dissuade you from extracurriculars, but rather to commit to ones that genuinely make you happy. As I wrote above, the process is so competitive that even international achievements may mean rejection, so don’t waste your high school experience by dedicating so much time and effort to something that you feel obligated to do.

Try everything your freshman and sophomore year- My biggest regret is not joining clubs where my passions lie simply because I was too lazy or scared of things like public speaking my freshman year. It’s much more intimidating to join as upperclassmen, and you may not be able to participate at all the levels/in all the ways people who have dedicated 3-4 years can. Even if you don’t think its for you (like debate for me because of my fear of public speaking), I urge you to expand your horizons and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Many clubs give you great opportunities to build leadership, public speaking, etc. skills and to find your passions.

Know both sides of the flashcard- I learned this tip from my organic chemistry class, and I’d never though about how useful it is. For example, if you’re memorizing polyatomic ions, it’s extremely important that you know both the formula and the name, as either version may show up on the exam. Not doing this also makes the weaknesses in your memorization evident- whenever I study vocab, I tend to glance at the side with the term and only memorize the definition. This meant that when I was given only the definitions, I couldn’t remember the word they defined, because I was so used to being given the vocab word and responding with the definition.

The first lecture of the unit is one of the most important for STEM classes- I know the beginning of the unit can often seem like the perfect time to tune out, as it goes over information you’ve previously learned or the easiest material of the topic, but it often forms the foundation for everything else in the unit. For example, the first lecture on a stoichiometry unit will probably teach you dimensional analysis, a skill integral to calculating molecular or empirical formulas, moles or grams of a substance, etc.

Buy/sell books secondhand- Everyone knows how expensive college textbooks are, but between SAT and AP prep books, and books for English, high school books can cost quite a bit of money too. Unless they redesigned the exam recently, you absolutely don’t need the newest edition of the review book, so buy from upperclassmen and then sell it to underclassmen the following year.

Learn to self study- Unless you’re really lucky, you’re guaranteed to have a teacher who doesn’t teach, teaches badly, or whose teaching style just doesn’t work for you. Personally, I find that self learning, especially if I’m struggling because resources such as textbooks and online explanations, and videos seem to contradict, really helps me understand the topic throughly. In AP bio, my teacher had us create claymation videos on the processes of cellular respiration and photosynthesis independently. It was incredibly frustrating and confusing because all the resources described the cycles in varying degrees of details, but I felt like I genuinely understood the topic, instead of having been spoon-fed the information and memorizing it. Obviously, this method isn’t very efficient for frequent use, but the key is to try to understand the material independently instead of going to the teacher the moment you hit a snag.

Keep your backpack/binders/notebooks reasonably organized- When teachers ask for homework to be passed up and you have to dig through mountains of papers in your backpack, not only is that super stressful, but a lot of teachers won’t let you turn it in after they have already collected all the papers. I was definitely guilty of being lazy and just stuffing papers, once I got them, into my backpack instead of taking a few seconds to slide them into a binder, and as a result I got 0s on lots of homework because either I couldn’t find it at the time or because everything was so messy I didn’t remember there was homework. Try to have some sort of organization system going on or at least a homework folder, because those 0s add up and can be the difference between an 89 and 90.

You’re gonna get senioritis, badly, and that’s ok- I’ve always been the type of person who did every homework assignment and was very focused on grades, so the idea that I would completely let myself ago seemed absurd to me. Don’t underestimate what senior year does to you. I can honestly count on one hand the econ worksheets that I actually turned in during senior year, and I made my first B in a grading period during the spring. I was very stressed about how awful my grades were, but unable to muster the energy to do anything about it. And you know what, it’s ok. It’s senior year, you can give yourself a break. Yes, your senior grades are still important for college applications, so don’t go from straight A’s to straight C’s, but for the most part, all the hard work is behind you. Do keep in mind that these habits may haunt you when you’re a college freshman. I haven’t started classes yet, but based on how little I studied for the math placement exam for my college, senioitis doesn’t magically end when you graduate, so don’t let it get completely out of control during the year.

Learn how to do math without a calculator- If you take either of the AP Calculuses or the SAT, you need to master this skill because there are sections of the exams that are strictly non-calculator.  Beyond that, when you get to calculus, you’ll be introduced to complicated concepts, where not being able to multiply by hand will drag you down.

Keep old notes- Not only for finals, but some topics are very interdisciplinary, like biochemistry, so it’s very important that you have a working knowledge of both biology and chemistry. As you take advanced classes, such as for me, taking physics c after physics 1, it will be assumed that you have completely mastered the basics, and they will be skipped or referenced very quickly. It is very useful to look at notes on the basics, which provide the foundation for the advanced material you learn.

Invest in a whiteboard- Whenever I was learning about processes or cycles, from the Krebs cycle to organic chemistry mechanisms, it was really useful to practice drawing the steps over and over again. Then when it came to the test, I could do a brain dump and draw out the information as a reference.

Understand formulas instead of blindly memorizing- This basically has physics and calculus written all over it. In physics, you should be given formula charts during exams, and in any case, something like F=ma isn’t terribly hard to memorize. The problem comes when there are a multitude of formulas that are derived from one of the fundamental equations. Of course, deriving from scratch each time is incredibly tedious, but I want to dissuade you from simply memorizing it or storing it on your calculator, because that means you probably don’t understand the physics behind it. What makes physics so difficult and different from any other subject you’ve taken is that every problem will have a slightly different scenario that tests your understanding of the physics behind it.

Use all the time given to you during tests- I know I hate looking back through my test because I just get so bored halfway through, but missing points because of silly mistakes is honestly the most frustrating thing ever when you had plenty of time to check. Depending on if I have time, I like to cover my original work and resolve the question. If checking answers is not your thing, try slowing now when you first see each question, and checking your work briefly each step.

Form study groups- Talking about something, especially teaching it to someone, always helped me remember something so much better than reading it on paper. It’s also so important to have second interpretations of the information you’re studying to ensure that you don’t make a huge misconception.

AP students: released/practice exams are your best friend- Obviously, they’re the best resources for studying for the AP exam, but they’re also a great tool for a hint at what your teacher’s tests may look like. AP teachers have access to tons of College Board material and will often use questions directly from old exams.

If you start getting confused during a lecture- Many times this is because I didn’t pay attention during the very beginning, so I’m missing that important foundation I talked about in the previous tip. Of course, I typically wouldn’t recommend doing things other than listening to what is currently being taught, but in this case, I would just get more confused and it’s a waste of time. So I discretely go back to my previous notes and focus on understanding them.

The most stressful part of schoolwork is just thinking about your assignments- There’s always specific period of time that threatens to kill me- a week where I had two competitions simultaneously, in cities 3 hours apart. When you’re taking 7 AP classes at the same time, just reading over your to-do list will make you want to cry. Even on a normal day, as I go to classes throughout the day and my list of homework gets longer and longer, it makes me so stressed to where I’m planning out how to finish everything and I’m no longer listening in class. It overwhelmed me so much that I just wanted to take a nap and avoid school. But every single time, stressing about the work I have is 1000x worse than sitting down and actually going through each task. I find that what had seemed impossible before was very doable, and many times I even finished early enough to relax before bed. Keep a positive mindset, don’t underestimate your abilities, and have the discipline to start working immediately on the hardest days, and you’ll be fine. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the workload that is able to be handled by one person can work for another, and things like mental illnesses are things I have no experience in, so this is definitely just something that worked for me and is not applicable to everyone.

Best of luck with high school! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask!

My AP World masterpost

Asks I’ve answered about school

youtube

I made a Twitter thread a while ago about applying for jobs and I also got an ask about some of the specifics about how I wound up here, so in spite of the fact that this video makes me C R I N G E, I’m gonna share it and we’re gonna do some STORY TIME. Mostly this is me sharing the specifics of my own, personal story but maybe there’s some broadly useful stuff in here, idk.

Also, a fair warning that my ~*story time*~ got away from me, so I’m putting it under a cut. The tl;dr version that’s more broadly useful is:

  1. job applications are learning opportunities and you should make sure you’re learning things as you go about it
  2. your application should be a tailored narrative of your career trajectory
  3. don’t sell yourself short or forget that you hold cards in the process as well
  4. the goal is a good fit for everybody, and that includes you; not every job is going to be that good fit for you

but then, I’m not a hiring manager so, really, wtf do I know

(seriously, take everything I say for the anecdotal nonsense that it is)

I found the listing for my job here on Tumblr. At the time I was freelancing and mostly pretty happy with it, but since I wrote my MA thesis on Nerdfighteria and had always kind of wanted to get into video, this looked like a really cool opportunity to work on great stuff & learn a lot.

The application asked for a reel, which I did not have, since I was mostly doing Virtual Assistant work at that time.

A huge part of why I applied was because I thought the application process itself would be a great learning opportunity.

I really didn’t expect to get the job. I can’t stress this part enough. Like, really didn’t even think I’d get an interview.

The whole thing, to me, was just a good exercise. It had been a while since I had applied for anything (I was freelancing on referrals from the get-go) and mostly I was eager to see what, exactly, I could put together in lieu of a reel.

I spent a week working my way through some Lynda lessons on After Effects (this wasn’t my first time using it, but I had only used it for suuuuper basic stuff). Much of what is happening in this video is stuff I figured out how to do while I was making it. That was, again, the point.

I bought a shit ton of green fabric. I rounded up all the lamps I could find. I had a vague knowledge of the fact that shadows = bad for keying, but really knew fuck all about lights. (tbh, lighting is still kind of a mysterious magic trick to me.) I spent probably an hour moving the lamps around, standing in front of them, recording it, and then looking at it until I could find what looked the least shadow-y.

I also watched a SciShow video on the slowest speed setting so that I could try to reverse engineer the basics of what was happening. I was literally just looking at it to see, “ok, but can I do that?” (Answer: not really, but A for effort.)

I wrote a very silly script that was a very carefully selected understanding of how I had been spending my time. This part is super important and broadly applicable whenever you are applying for a job: a huge part of applying for a job is creating a narrative.

(Important note: this does not mean lying.)

Obviously your life has (probably) not actually been a series of carefully chosen moments leading you to this ONE. JOB. But it’s important to find ways to talk about the things you’ve done that highlight how/why they are relevant. In my experience, humans have a pretty natural tendency to do this narrative reframing of their past as having led them clearly to their future. Use that. What is the version of your trajectory that most sounds like you’ve been gearing up for this job all along, acquiring skills both obvious and unexpected that would be useful here.

That’s the guiding principle of everything I’m saying in this video.

It’s also worth noting, though, that I laid my cards on the table. That is, I wasn’t trying to lie about anything and I was up front about where I was at. It wouldn’t have served anybody to try to be misleading about that fact.

So that was the application process, for me. It’s a tricky balance of being honest but also a carefully selected kind of honest. And keeping in mind that this is as much about deciding whether a company is actually good fit for you as whether you’re a good fit for them. I remember during my college admissions process, one school that I thought I really wanted to go to had a weird religious essay on the form that caught me off guard and made me reevaluate whether that was a good fit. Likewise, I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to do the 9-5 thing. Freelancing had lots of great perks that offset some of the overwhelming stress.

Something else that I did, that I recommend with a very cautious asterisk, was googling the people interviewing me. Again, partially this was, “OK, I know these shows they make, and I know vlogbrothers videos, but who are all of the other people who I would spend my days with.”

I had no idea who Nick was before I started, because I never paid much attention to the credits. But he was the one who called me to arrange the interview, so I googled him and found a great interview he did about why Crash Course matters, and there were a few specific things he said that stood out to me as, “yes, this is also why I think this matters and why I want this job.”

The asterisk here is: don’t be creepy. It’s a hard line to walk, but, ya know, don’t talk about your interviewer’s swarm check-ins or whatever.

In my case, I knew that in addition to concentrating on that narrative of how and why I should end up here, I had these other points to hit on in the interview. Again, don’t lie. This isn’t about saying shit solely because you think someone wants to hear it; this was about leveraging a piece of common ground I knew we had.

Lastly, I’d add that it’s good to be careful about how you walk the line between being excited about a company’s work and being a little overzealous. It is, at the end of the day, still a job, and you don’t want to come across as so enthusiastic that maybe you’re missing that point. That’s a really nuanced thing for which I have no easy answers.

A lot of this stuff is just luck. I gave a lot of advice where I could, but, at the same time, there’s also this weird combination of personalities that make a thing work or not. There’s a thing in hiring called the “airport test” which is: “could I be stuck in an airport with this person?” and that is a whole other weird, wholly qualitative element of hiring that ends up making a huge difference.

There’s the official bits and pieces that make up a job application, but then there’s the trickier interpersonal stuff about how that job fits into a team. Something not explicitly stated in my application, but which I’ve since learned mattered is that what I lacked in technical know-how, I made up for in cultural knowledge about YouTube. My manager is a former film school teacher who learned the YouTube stuff on the job; he knew he could teach me anything technical I didn’t know much more easily than he could teach someone the culture in which we create.

IDK. I could legitimately talk about this forever.

American cartoons animated by Japanese studios and the hybrid art style that results is EXTREMELY my aesthetic and the basis for my art style - a post

I’ve been nerding out about this on twitter all day but I wanted to make a post here about it too - people often cite my work as reminding them of things like Lupin the 3rd and Cybersix, and honestly, I”m not surprised.

But do you know why?

Its because both shows were animated by a little (and by little I mean one of the oldest animation studios in Japan) animation studio by the name of Tokyo Movie Shinsha (as they were known up until the 2000s, and are now known as TMS Entertainment).

TMS is responsible for a really large chunk of my favorite animated media growing up. They are my biggest inspiration both animation and art style wise. I’m honestly completely infatuated with the hybrid style that was created in the 80s and 90s as a result of Japanese animation studios being outsourced to do American cartoons in general, but TMS really stands out as being the masters of this.

Examples

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989)

This movie went through distributor hell, falling through the hands of WB, Disney and various others. But it had an American director and was animated by TMS studio under the instruction of using a western style. Its initial release was in Japan. To this day no one really knows who owns the film property. But its one of the most shining examples of Japanese > American hybrid animation to this day and is the most prolific in making kids SWEAR this movie was anime, only to watch it again as adults and be totally confused. lmao.
It’s my favorite animated film of all time.

Galaxy High School (1986)

 This cartoon aired on the American CBS network in 1986, and was created and mostly written by Chris Columbus. It was also animated by TMS. This show sports some of the cutest animation I’ve ever seen out of TMS studio - they seemed to be given slightly more leeway on how “Japanese” it was allowed to look, despite being provided model sheets by the American character designers. This show has BIG BIG hints of Lupin throughout - mostly showcased in how the expressions, movement and especially the various running/chase scenes are animated. This show has the absolute /perfect/ blend of Japanese > American hybrid cartoon animation style, in my personal opinion. One of my absolute favorites.

Cybersix (1999)

Cybersix was a Canadian production, originally airing on the Teletoon Network in 1999. And what do you know, yet again animated by TMS studio! This show was an absolute staple of my teenhood. Not just for its gorgeous style and characters that would very clearly influence my work for years to come, but also its themes - its probably the only show I’ve ever seen to feature a truly genderfluid character, and handles gender identity with such care I’ve NEVER seen in a TV show since. This is a classy show. The animation is always breathtaking, and never skips a beat. Sadly though, due to some conflicts between production studios, the second 13 episode season never went into production, so the series is left on a bit of a cliffhanger. Still, I can not stress enough how this is a show NOT to be looked over. Its more than worth a watch.

The Real Ghostbusters (1986)

The production of this show is kind of a huge roller coaster ride that seasoned Ghostbusters fans have WAY more knowledge of and have covered it in way more detail already than I ever could ( @phelous has some great videos on his youtube channel that are worth a watch) - but it is worth noting that I had to do some slight sleuthing to discover that TMS is YET AGAIN responsible for the animation for the first 5 seasons of this show (with a Korean animation studio doing the last two) - as only DiC is credited with the production almost everywhere you look. But it’s not all that hard to see the CLEAR signs of this show being animated by a Japanese studio. The hybrid style is very prevalent here. Again, this is a show I REALLY enjoyed thoroughly as a kid due to its style and characters. I swear, I think I was just really hard wired to be drawn to TMS’ art style. lol.

These are my favorite examples. TMS is also responsible for some of my other favorite shows growing up such as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Inspector Gadget (under the DiC label), Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, and Gargoyles (under the Disney label), and Animaniacs (under the WB label). Most of my absolute FAVORITE western TMS productions were done under the Telecom Animation Film label.

Some of my favorite anime productions of all time were done by TMS too, such as Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira (yes, the animated film with the most frames per second of all time and some of the most gorgeous animation ever put on screen), MOST installments of Lupin the 3rd, Tetsujin 28-go, Ashita no Joe, Detective Conan, Space Adventure Cobra, Magic Knight Rayearth, and tons more.

(And trust me, I do understand the underlying negative implications of what it means to outsource animation in asian countries. I of course don’t EVER support the abysmal treatment and underpaying of animators in Japan.)

But I do want to pay my respects to these animators, because whether they know it or not, they created something really wonderful in this process that I admire and am extremely inspired by.

In my opinion, TMS deserves the same amount of respect and notoriety as the likes of studio Ghibli.

So yes, whenever someone sends me an ask “hey, your style reminds me of (insert TMS show here) - and its always these shows they point out, lol - I’m just going to direct them to this post.

I can’t stress enough just how clearly this style has influenced my own. I hope you all can see it now. lol.

Thanks for reading and taking this time to geek out about animation aesthetics with me. ;;; I’d also love to hear about any shows you love/loved as a kid that feature this Japanese > American animation style in the replies to this post!

I just had a good Sunday yesterday so I thought of this and idk lmao, let me know if you like it xx

Another update from Stefán! Warning, I cried so much while reading this!
  • Dear friends.
  • I have no words to describe how thankful I am to all of you, my friends. Your support and continuous thoughts, prayers and positive letters and encouragement have more to do with my success in the fight with cancer then you can imagine.
  • Let me tell you a little story.
  • During my travels around the US and North America with the Musical How The Grinch Stole Christmas, I got to meet children with cancer in almost every city we visited, more the 40 cities. I would dress up as the Grinch and visit the Children’s Hospital in each city and meet with very sick child that was strong enough to take a visit from the Grinch for a little story reading or just a short hello. Sometimes I could only wave to them through a glass window because they were too ill to make any contact to the outer world.
  • In my carrier I have also worked with “Make a Wish Foundation” and in Lazy Town we would have children visit the studio from all over the world and it felt so good to be able to make a difference.
  • But one girl will never leave my mind. We were playing “The Grinch” in Orlando, Florida 2015 and I had been asked by “Make a Wish Foundation” to meet with this girl, 12 years old, who had the dream of taking her family to Orlando and having a blast. She had gone to all the parks and seen a lot of shows during her stay but she really needed to meet The Grinch.
  • I asked her if she had had a good time with her family and friends in Florida and she said yes, it’s been great. And since I was in Character as The Grinch I asked her why she wanted to meet with me before the show, The Grinch of all people. Then she looked me in the eyes, smiled, stroked my hair and said: “I just wanted to see if I could make your heart grow three sizes”.
  • My eyes filled up with tears and I really had nothing to say and I remember thinking to myself “Stop, Stop it, you can’t be The Grinch and cry in front of this child”. I looked at her and said; “You have made my heart grow, yes”. Then the girl said ; “Well, you too Mr. Grinch” and then she gave me the warmest hug I have ever felt.
  • This story is about all of us, all of us who are ready to give till the last moment in our lives, help others with as little as a word or two or just a hug.
  • You are giving and you are healing and just remember, it doesn’t matter how long I live because it about how I live. Life is not tomorrow, life is now.
  • Big hug and love to you all

Q&A, LOS spoilers, Ty

ti-bae-rius said:Hey! First, thank you for Ty, because he’s the first character I’ve ever had like me. But I wondered whether people like him would be in the dregs program of the Academy? He seems to be able to hold his own in a battle, but the Clave aren’t exactly the most understanding. What’s the policy on the dregs program? Who goes in and who gets to stay in the Shadowhunters stream?

In Ty’s case, he’s never gone to the Academy, so we don’t know for sure where they’d want to put him. Julian worries Ty would end up in with the dregs, but then Julian’s a worrier, and he’s very protective of his family. For all we know, the higher-ups at the academy might see Ty as a great candidate for the Shadowhunter track. But even if they did, Ty might find himself in conflict with the authoritarian rules of the academy, and his teachers might not be understanding of the ways his mind works (such as the usefulness of pipe-cleaner toys to fiddle with, etc). So it’s hard to guess how it would all shake out.

There isn’t a hard and fast rule about where Shadowhunters who are similar to Ty (in the sense of being neuroatypical) would end up. That’s because the Clave doesn’t really believe in or acknowledge autism or anything like it (Julian mentions as things the Clave doesn’t acknowledge, without naming them because he doesn’t have the words, ADHD and dyslexia). Students would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Some of them might end up on the “dregs” track. Others might end up on the Shadowhunter track. It would vary from person to person, based on the specifics of their situation.

asillymango said:I have a weird hunch that the faerie boy Dru saw in the cavern, when she touched the magical faerie thing in Jaime’s bag, will play an important role in TQoAaD. Is he possibly a descendant of the Lost First Heir, or the heir himself? I also remember the crest of the Unseelie King being present in that scene if that could be a possible hint. Another question: could he be what tied the Rosales family to the world of the Fae? If these are spoilers I understand if you choose not to answer them :)

Ash is important to the ongoing story. I can’t tell you much about him, but he appears in QoAD in some unexpected places, making some unexpected alliances. He isn’t related to what ties the Rosaleses to Faerie, though.

wreckofourhearts said:Hi! I finished LoS last week & it left me with one huge question: will Clary’s vision be explained? I can’t see you just bringing up Clary having visions of her dying & leave that idea unsolved, but I’m dying to know if you can tell us anything about how much Clary and Jace will be in QoAD or if you’ll go into detail a little about her visions. I would love to know anything you can spill about this idea in general because I don’t know if I could stand Clary dying outside of her main book series!

There’s not too much I can tell you aside from the fact that the visions will be addressed again and you’ll find out what happens to Clary in QuAD. It’s true TMI is over, but there are climactic huge battles to come in the Shadowhunter world, so the TMI characters will never truly be totally out of potential danger until all the books are over …

ronaanpynch said:Hi Cassie! :) I finished LoS two days ago and I LOVED IT! Also I was surprised that you mentioned the Rome Institute! Now I have a question: the Herondale we see in the memory held in the aletheia crystal was Tobias and William Herondale’s father?

That Herondale was indeed Tobias and William’s father. The scene from the aletheia crystal illustrates how he was not a particularly compassionate person, even when his children were small. (William and Tobias would have been about four and two years old at the time.)

animalcr0ssings said:Hello! At this point do you know how many deaths there are going to be in QoAaD?

Yes,  but this time around I’m not going to name a number. :)

Five Times Tony Stark Was a Good Dad (And One Time He Wasn’t)

So, I’m obsessed with the whole idea that Peter is Tony’s unofficial son and it’s only supported by Tony’s appearance in Spider-Man Homecoming, so I came up with this series, which is in the works and also posted on my AO3 account. If you like it or have any suggestions as to where I should take this, please don’t hesitate to let me know! Also, forgive any spelling errors or mistakes, I finished this at three in the morning one night and I was too lazy to go back and fix them. Enjoy!

~~~~~~
Tony swore when he was twelve years old that he would never be a father. He remembered that moment clearly, like it had just happened a day ago, not well over thirty years ago. He was in his room, his father still screaming in a drunken rage at his mother over something Tony did, his anger and disappointment following Tony down the hallway of their New York penthouse apartment. He remembered sitting on the cold tile floor of his room, head rest against the heavy wooden door that was doing nothing to muffle his father’s harsh words.
His father was angry, Tony had gotten kicked out of his third private school on the East Coast, the letter expulsion still clutched in his father’s harsh grasp. He wasn’t sure if he had ever seen his father this furious before and Tony knew that the only thing that saved him from taking a glass full of scotch to the face was his mother’s presence in the room. Maria Stark might’ve been docile about a lot of things, but Howard taking his rage out on Tony physically, that would never fly in this house hold.
Tears of anger and embarrassment welled in Tony’s eyes and he wiped them away furiously, refusing to waste anymore energy on that man that he was forced to acknowledge as his father. No matter what Tony did, it was never enough to please Howard Stark. He made his first prototype of an arch reactor at the age of six, Howard wanted it by age five. Tony skipped three grades, Howard wanted him to skip four. Tony, despite his age, was offered a spot at MIT and if Howard had it his way? He would’ve been there a year ago. No matter how much Tony achieved, how many goals he surpassed, he always came up short in Howard’s eyes. Being the constant source of Howard’s disappointment and ire made Tony wonder if he would ever succeed in his father’s eyes, if his dad would ever clap him on the back and say “I’m proud of you, son.”
He wondered, some nights, when he’d lie awake in his too big bed in his too big room in his too big house, if his father had ever wanted children, had wanted Tony.
The thought crossed his mid countless of times, until it latched onto his cerebral cortex and sat there, like the worst form of cancer that had no possible cure.
And while Tony sat there, head resting tiredly against the warm wood, Howard’s voice still echoing down the long hallway, that cancer spread until it proved fatal.
He never wanted his children to feel like this.
Unwanted
Worthless
A complete and utter failure.
Tony was self-aware enough to know that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, that human nature was a pattern and patterns were destined to repeat themselves, without fail. Anger and rage and disappointment were the only form of affection Tony was used to getting to his father. His father was a cold man, always keeping Tony at a distance that no matter how hard he tried, Tony could never quite breach.
And Tony knew, no matter how hard he tried, he would always end up like his father.
~~~~~~~

Peter Parker came into his life unexpectedly and despite popular opinion, unplanned. He’d been keep tabs on the Spider-Kid since the kid popped up on his radar a few months ago, clad in that god awful homemade leotard/hoodie contraption and flying around Queens on his webs with all the grace of a child learning to walk for the first time. Tony never planned to actually meet the kid behind the mask or reaching out to the flying kid in his homemade costume, but when the Avengers disbanded and the only family Tony had ever known was decreasing in numbers, he needed back up.

Looking back, his intentions were purely selfish and it shamed him to admit, when he dropped the kid back off in his sketchy neighborhood in Queens with the new suit he’d made him, he never had any intention of keeping in contact with the kid.

To absolve himself from the guilt, he appointed Happy as his chaperone and threw himself into creating new legs for Rhodey, another way to attempting to soothe ache of guilt that had settled along with the shrapnel, in his battered heart.

He underestimated Peter, who was pushy and persistent and finally, after three months, Happy threw his phone at Tony and told him to call the kid. That night, Tony, with a glass of scotch in hand, filtered through the hundreds of voicemails Peter had left Happy—anecdotes of his daily patrols, everything from helping old ladies cross the street, stopping bike thieves to getting cats out of trees. Each story was told with excruciating detail, in that excited ramble the kid got whenever he was particularly enthused about something and warmth settled around Tony’s heart, fond amusement making his lips curl into his first genuine smile in months.

It took Tony another week to reach out to the kid, but he did and that’s how he found himself, in one of his more flashier cars, sitting outside of Peter’s school. He ignored the gawking, the stunned stares and the whispers of the students filtering out of the school, his eyes scanning the crowd before they landed on a familiar head of messy hair.

Peter was talking excitedly to the chubby, dark haired Asian kid by his side, who was nodding along to everything Peter said with a look of pure wonder on his face and Tony wondered briefly if his little friend knew that his BFF moonlighted as a super-hero in spandex at night.

Another kid appeared by Peter’s side and Tony watched as Peter visibly tensed and tried to skirt around the kid, but the kid threw a hand out and stopped Peter in his tracks.

The cocky grin that appeared on the kid’s face was all too familiar to Tony and before he could even second guess himself, he was out of his car and walking towards the three boys, ignoring the murmurs coming from the crowd.

“—when are you gonna stop lying about your internship with Tony Stark, Penis Parker? There’s no way someone like Tony Stark would ever take on a charity case like you—“

Peter looked up when he heard the murmuring crowd fall to a hush and his gaze landed on Tony. The amount of surprise in the kid’s features made Tony’s gut clench that in no way had to do with the greasy cheeseburger he ate on the way over here.

“M-Mr. Stark, what, uh, what are you doing here?” Peter stammered, flicking his gaze back to would be bully in front of him.

“Yeah, Parker, like I’m gonna fall for that—

“Is there a problem here, gentlemen?” Tony interrupted, smirking in satisfaction when the kid that was giving Peter a hard time, froze, turning his disbelieving eyes on to Tony.

“Y-You-You’re Tony Stark.” He said faintly, his voice shaking.

Tony smirked, “Astute observation and you are?”

The kid gulped, his adams apple bobbing harshly, “F-Flash Thompson.”

“Makes sense,” Tony said with a nod of his head, looking the kid up and down, “I’d bully someone too, if my parents named me after the lamest superhero to ever grace the pages of a comic book, overcompensation and all that,” Tony said thoughtfully, “especially with your perceived fixation on the male genitalia. Tell me, did it take you a while to come up with something that juvenile or did you have someone equally as childish think it up for you? Because I would think someone with—and I’m assuming here, so correct me if my deductive reasoning skills are off—a high level of intelligence would come up with something a little bit more creative than ‘Penis Parker’.”

By the time Tony was done, the crowd around him was snickering and the kid in front of him looked like he wanted nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow him whole, if such things were possible.

Tony smiled, but there was nothing nice about, “Now, if I ever catch wind of you so much as looking in Peter’s direction again and trust me, kid, I’ve got my ways, I have no issue siccing my AI on all your school records and wreaking havoc on your future plans for any Ivy League schools, you reading me kid?”

Flash nodded so vigorously he resembled a bobble head, “Y-Yes, Sir.”

Tony smiled, this one much more kind than the last, “Good, I’m glad we could reach an understanding, now running along so I can talk to my intern here without your sorry excuse for cologne clouding my senses, seriously kid less is more.”

Flash tucked his proverbial tail between his legs and pushed through the crowd of people that were now openly laughing, losing interest in Tony in favor of chasing after Flash to mock him.

Tony shouldn’t feel as proud as he did, but he knew what it was like to be bullied and he’d be damned if his kid—ahem, someone like Peter had to deal with someone as childish as Flash Thompson every day and it was within his power to do something about it. Like kid didn’t already have enough to deal with as it was.

He turned back to see a dumbfounded Peter and his equally as flabbergasted friend.

“That was—” Peter began, but seemed to be at a loss for words, shaking his head in disbelief.

His friend, however, didn’t seem to have that particular problem.

“—AWESOME!” His friend said excitedly, “oh man did you see Flash’s face? Dude, this is greatest thing to ever happen to me. Tony Stark just verbally assaulted Flash, Jesus dude, how is this your life? If you ever want to trade, even if it’s just for a day, I’m totally down—“

Ned.” Peter muttered, elbowing him roughly, giving a rough jerk of his head in Tony’s direction. He flicked his apologetic gaze over to Tony, who simply rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t deny the amused smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Ned followed his gaze and flushed, “Right, sorry.”

Peter closed his eyes for a moment and Tony could see the kid physically trying to fight off his embarrassment and couldn’t help but chuckle.

Peter’s eyes snapped open at the sound and the surprise and confusion from earlier was back, “Mr. Stark, what are you doing here? At my school? Is everything okay? Is there a—“ Peter glanced around in a sad attempt at nonchalance and lowered his voice to an equally as sad attempt at a whisper, “—mission?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows in a manner that was making Tony wonder if the kid had a weird twitch he’d never noticed before.

Tony glanced over at Ned quickly, going back to his original curiosity of how much the kid actually knew about his arachnid friend here, but Ned seemed to catch on to Tony’s unasked question.

“Don’t worry Mr. Stark, sir, I’m Peter’s Guy In The Chair.” Ned answered helpfully, giving him a bright smile.

Tony glanced back over at Peter with a raised eyebrow, who simply muttered “dude” in an exasperated tone, shaking his head before returning his attention to Tony, “Ned knows.”

“Oh, well, in that case, no, there is no…mission,” Tony said in a mock whisper, making Peter flush, “I’m working on a new Iron Man suit and I need to pick your brain for some ideas on upgrades, figured I’d swing by and pick you up from school today.”

Peter’s eyes widened and Ned seemed torn between fainting or peeing himself from excitement.

“You get to touch the Iron Man suit?!” He squeaked, turning his wide-eyed gaze over to Peter, who only gave Ned a look, who bit his lip sheepishly, but looked like he was ready to explode from the level of his enthusiasm.

Peter ignored him, “I was supposed to help Ned finish the lego Death Star today, we were supposed to do it yesterday, but I uh, kinda got caught up on patrol.” Peter gave Tony a guilty shrug of his shoulders.

“So let me get this straight,” Tony said slowly, “you’re turning down quality time in my personal lab to build a lego Death Star with Ned over here?”

Peter’s eyes had lit up at the mentions of Tony’s lab, but with quick glance at a wide eyed Ned, who seemed to be stuck on the fact that Tony Stark said his name, his excitement dimmed. But Peter was loyal, almost to a fault, and nodded resolutely.

Tony, seemingly at a loss for words, just stood there, shellshocked at being told no, by a fifteen year old kid at that. A small part of Tony, the one that was actually looking forward to hanging out with the kid, was slightly hurt at the rejection.

Ned, who’d been watching the entire scene with wide eyes, was more observant than he looked and seemed to sense Peter’s indecision and Tony’s disappointment, because he gave his friend a bright smile, “Dude, we can finish the Death Star anytime and besides, my mom wanted me home tonight to help her with something, so I’m booked, raincheck?” He offered.

Peter glanced at Ned then at Tony and then back to Ned, “Um, sure Ned, no problem.”

Ned gave him a smile and then turning his attention back to Tony, his friendly smiled turned a bit more to the manic grin that most people wore in Tony’s presence, “It was really nice to meet you Mr. Stark.”

He offered Peter a fist bump, who returned it, before he started walking down the side walk, towards, what Tony assumed, was home.

Turning his attention back to the kid, he gave him a smile, “Good good, now we should probably be on our way if we want to avoid traffic. Now, as far as suit upgrades go, I was thinking of up-ing the suit’s repulsers a bit—hey, kid, you coming?” Tony asked from his position on the driver’s side, raising an eyebrow at Peter, who was still standing on the side walk. Tony followed his gaze and saw Ned still making his way down the sidewalk and chancing a glance back at Peter, who was still watching him with big, guilty eyes, he sighed.

The things I do for you, kid, Tony thought to himself.

“Hey, Ned,” Tony shouted, making the kid pause and turn around, looking to Peter, who was watching Tony with the beginnings of a smile, then back to Tony curiously, “would you like to join us? There’s plenty of room in the lab for three people.”

Even from a few yards away, Tony could see the kid’s eyes widen in surprise before he hustled his way back to an equally excited Peter, who shot him a grateful look.

“Thank you, Mr. Stark.” He said quietly, giving him a bright smile.

And Tony couldn’t help but smile back, “You’re welcome, kiddo,” eyeing a panting Ned warily, “make sure he doesn’t do anything…weird, okay? I don’t mind opening my lab to him but there was something in his eyes when I was talking about the Iron Man suit that made me decidedly uncomfortable.”

Peter gave a breathy laugh, “Don’t worry, Mr. Stark, Ned’s cool.”

Ned, who had come to a slightly sweaty stop in from them, looked up at Tony with wide eyes, “Can I try on the Iron Man helmet?”

“Dude.”

~~~~~~~~~
Tony spent the majority of their time in lab just watching Peter and Ned run around like kids in a candy store—picking things up, playing with the robots—DUM-E taking a special liking to Peter, who, Tony was pleased to see, treated him like a human, thanking him when he brought them water from the stocked fridge and smiling when DUM-E beeped happily in return—and played with all the gadgets laying around.
Tony, albeit wearily, let them try on one of the Iron Man helmets from one of his earlier models and explained to them how the suit worked, both of them hanging on to his every word. He showed them the blue prints for his newest model, listening to their suggestions and even writing a few them down to look into later.
Ned, Tony found out, was rather intelligent with computers. He gave him one of his old security systems and watched with genuine interest as the kid hacked into the the files with ease and recoded the entire system in a matter of minutes.
When Tony looked it over, he let out a grunt of an approval, “Nice work, kid.”
Ned all but fainted at Tony’s praise.
The hours slipped by and F.R.I.D.A.Y. being the helpful AI that she is, had ordered pizzas without Tony even having to ask and had them sent to the kitchen, alerting them when they had arrived. Tony led them up to the kitchen, watching with thinly veiled amusement as they both took in every new surrounding with the same amount of interest they had shown in the lab.
Tony continued to observe them as they tore into the pizza like they hadn’t eaten in days and taking a quick glance at the clock, he realized with a flash of guilt, that they had been down in the lab for over four hours and the last time they had probably eaten something would’ve been well over seven or eight hours ago.
It was nice, Tony deiced, listening to their mindless chatter and what was especially nice, was seeing how at ease Peter was with his friend, looking like a true fifteen year old with his friend over to his house on a school night, like he didn’t have super powers, like he didn’t dress up in tight spandex and web his way through Queens and fight crime at night while trying to balance a normal life.
The thought nagged at Tony for the rest of dinner and as he rode silently with them in the backseat while Happy drove them all to Ned’s apartment first, who still looked like he couldn’t believe today was real, thanking Tony breathlessly for the best day of his life and telling Peter he’d see him tomorrow at school.
Peter watched his friend with a small, amused smile and when they got to Peter’s apartment building, Tony glanced over at the kid, the smile still had yet to leave his face.
“Alright kid, this is your stop,” Tony said, making a move to undo his seatbelt, but the kid’s hesitant voice made him pause.
“Mr. Stark?” Peter said softly, clearing his throat, “I uh, just wanted to thank you, you know for well, everything,” the kid breathed, smiling up at him so sincerely that it made Tony’s chest ache in the best sort of way, “today was amazing and I really appreciate you inviting Ned along with us, he really looks up to you, you know? And I haven’t really been able to spend much time with him since, y’know, the whole Spider-Man thing.”
The kid paused before continuing on in a softer voice, “And about Flash, I really, really don’t know how to thank you for that,” he rubbed the back of his neck, clearly embarrassed, “it’s kind of funny, in a way, I’m a sort of super-hero and I can’t even stand up to a bully—“
Tony’s heart squeezed painfully in his chest at the kid’s self-deprecation, “Look, kid, I’m no stranger to bullies,” he began, sighing heavily, “I had my fair share of them when I was in school and even in college. I learned that while you may no be able to physically fight someone, you can always fight them with words and sometimes, words can hurt more than your fists. All I did was give that Flash kid a taste of his own medicine and hopefully, got him off your case.”
Peter was silent for a moment, considering Tony’s words before giving him another appreciative smile, “I don’t think Flash will be messing with me anytime soon, but still, thank you,” Peter’s smile turned shy, “you’re the first adult, other than May, to stand up for me and I really appreciate it, so thank you, Mr. Stark.”
“Call me Tony,” Tony offered after a beat of silence, unsure of how to respond to such a statement.
Whatever he was trying to say, the kid got, because he smiled brightly and Tony, suddenly feeling awkward at the unusual sentimental moment, busied himself with unbuckling his seatbelt, ignoring the warmth in his chest.
He reached around the kid to open the door for him and Peter, rather than getting out, just like last time, he reached up and wrapped his arms around Tony, thinking he was hugging him
“This um, wasn’t a hug,” Tony began awkwardly, “I’m just getting the door for you.”
However, before the kid could pull away, Tony wrapped his arms around him and gave him a quick, but firm squeeze.
Peter gave him another smile before wishing Tony and Happy a goodnight,  getting out of the car and making his way up towards his apartment. Tony debated on his next move, mulling it over quickly and before the kid could get too far, he found himself making a snap decision and rolling down he window.
“Hey, Underoos,” Tony started, slightly unsure when the kid turned around and looked at Tony with hopeful eyes.
“Same time, same place tomorrow?” He said after a moment of silence, the kid’s answering grin melting away any self doubt before it could begin.
“Sure Mr.Stark—Tony,” Peter stuttered excitedly, “sounds great!”
Tony watched the kid go with a satisfied smiled, so caught up in his happy little pseudo-family moment that he almost didn’t hear his phone ring.
Not even bothering to glance at the caller I.D., he answered it with a smooth, “Stark.”
“Tony?! What the hell we’re you thinking going to a school and threatening a minor, A MINOR—“
Shit.
Tom helping you study:
-Coming home after a long day and knowing you need to study but wanting so badly to avoid it once you walk in the door and see Tom’s face
-“Alright sooo, I got some of that cheese you like, and some bubbly, I thought we could catch up on House of Cards? Or whatever you want to watch sweetheart, doesn’t bother me.”
-Just feeling really sad and disheartened because you know you can’t and him picking up on it straight away
-“What’s wrong darling? I’m sorry, we don’t have to do that, we could go out or something? I just thought you might like to have a night in.”
-“It’s not that, I just really need to study for this exam tomorrow and I’d love to do all that but I’m gonna fail if I don’t study, Tom I’m sorry I jus-”
-Tom steadying you with his hands on your shoulders, putting his hand on your cheek and bending down to look in your eyes to reassure you
-“Hey, hey now. Love, your studies are important, you know that, I know that, don’t you dare be sorry about it. Now I don’t know how much help I can be, but what if I be your study buddy? I’ll help you in any way you need me to.”
-“You’d do that?”
-“Only for you my love.”
-Both of you sitting on the ground with your legs crossed, your books and notes spread out on the coffee table with your laptop, and he’s just staring at your notes in awe of how much you take on
-“You just tell me what you’d like me to do and I’ll do it. No questions asked.”
-“That’s very ballsy of you Tom.”
-Getting him to highlight certain words in a word passage for you and him not knowing what colour you’d prefer
-“Okay so you’ve got pink, orange, yellow or green here, which should I use love?”
-“It doesn’t really matter Tommy.”
-“You wore green knickers yesterday, so I’ll use green.”
-“TOM”
-Just KNOWING Tom has so many questions about the depths of what you’re studying because he’s a curious little puppy but he holds them back because he doesn’t want to distract you
-“You have lovely handwriting darling.”
-“Thank you Tommy.”
-Tom rubbing your back while he waits for you to give him something to do
-“Tommmmm”
-“Yes love, what can I do??”
-“Could you maybe make me a snack?”
-“Crackers? And that cheese I got for you?”
-“Yes pleaseeee”
-“I’m on it.”
- Tom wanting to feed you the cheese and crackers so you ‘don’t have to waste your study time picking it up yourself’
-“Tom I can feed myself, you don’t have to do that.”
-“But I’m helpingggg”
-“Okay okay, fine”
-Getting him to quiz you and him being so serious about it, covering the back of the page with his hand so you can’t peep through
-“Are you gonna have a buzzer?”
-“No Tom, I don’t need a buzzer, I’m the only person answering.”
-“But it’s a quiz show.”
-“It’s a quiz for study, not a quiz show Tommy.”
-“…….it’s a quiz show and your buzzer is ‘ribbit’.”
-Watching some recorded lessons on your laptop and Tom watching with you even though he clearly finds it boring af
“Tom you don’t have to watch this if you don’t want to.”
“No no I want to, this is great.”
“Mhm.”
-Struggling to read your notes because you left your glasses upstairs and Tom knowing exactly what’s up
-So he goes upstairs and grabs them for you but you’re too focused to notice
-He comes up behind you and slides them on your face, and it’s the littlest gesture but you’re so so grateful
-“You need to wear them darling, your eyes are probably sore enough as it is”
-“I love you Thomas”
-“I love you too.”
-Tom looking through the novel you’re studying and reading all your annotations because he just loves to see your thoughts written down
- Starting to feel really sleepy and Tom noticing your eyes drooping
-“How’re you going love? Maybe you should head off to bed soon”
-“I’m almost done, I just need to go through this last few notes and summarise them, would you make me a coffee please?”
-“No love, it’s bloody 12am. You can have tea, coffee will have you wired and you still need to sleep.”
-“Thank you for making my good choices for me”
-“That’s what I’m here for”
-Finally finishing up and just collapsing back into the gap between where his arm is holding his also very tired body up and his torso, his hand resting gently on your hip giving it a tap
-“Alright, time for bed I think.”
-Tom helping you to bed, and letting you wear his lucky socks, the fluffy blue ones with clouds on them
-“I always wear them to my auditions, you can wear them tonight to give you luck for your exam tomorrow”
- Thinking it’s a little ridiculous, but his sweet soft boy face is utterly serious
-“I’d be honoured to wear your lucky socks. They have been washed though right?”
-“I think so.”
-Tom slipping into bed beside you pulling you into his embrace, one arm under you neck, the other curled around your waist
-“Alright love, one last question. Buzzers ready. Who’s the best Spider-Man?”
-“Ribbit. You are, you idiot”
-“That’s what I like to hear.”
Maybe More Than Friends (Peter Parker x Stark!Reader)
Word Count: 4,729
Peter Parker x Reader
Summary: After Peter joined the Avengers, you were basically forced into spending a lot of time with him, being that your father is being that your father is the Tony Stark. Your relationship starts off fairly innocent being as Peter was fairly shy around you, and not to mention that Tony had strictly forbid you two from dating. But despite your best efforts, the sexual tension between you two is undeniable. And one night while the rest of the Avengers are out on a mission, leaving you and Peter alone, the sexual tension comes to a peak. Peter is 18 in this fic.
Warnings: Extreme fluff. Language. Smut smut smut
You remember the first time you met Peter Parker. It was embarrassing, to say the least.
It was a pretty unexpected meetup. You didn’t even know that he was in the tower. You were working in the lab with another one of your dad’s employees, helping design a suit for the new Avengers recruit, Spiderman. It was your first major job, and you were so focused that you hadn’t even noticed when your dad and Peter walked in.
“Hey, Y/N, meet the new recruit, Peter. Peter, meet Y/N, my daughter.” Tony said loudly as he entered the lab, startling you and making you hit your head on the wall.
Peep is a hearing aid. It is still getting used to this, because it used to be a regular dragon. And now it is a full-time employed hearing aid dragon, all two inches of it, perched on its sorcerer’s ear.
The sorcerer is named Vigil, which is short for Vigilante. Peep tried to point out to its hapless human that being named after their secret identity is a terrible way of keeping it a secret, but Vigil continues to be named Vigil. (It is ridiculous, in Peep’s eyes, how often its good advice goes ignored.) Vigil’s often-changing gender was another surprise to get used to, since dragons don’t tend to have genders.
“What’s a gender for?” Peep had questioned Vigil on its first day of work as it tried to find the best position to stay hidden behind her ear, while holding onto her piercings for balance.
Vigil hummed thoughtfully before answering, “Decoration, I suppose.”
That might have been a joke, but Peep wasn’t sure.
But being genderfluid was a feature of Vigil, not a problem. No, it was the vigilante thing that was the problem. Every night after the labs had been shut up for the day the other apprentice sorcerers would head off to eat dinner together, or watch some shark jousting at the Oceania, or do other normal activities like flying. Meanwhile, Vigil would murmur a few words under their breath to shield their face with a spell, tuck the lab’s resident firekeeping dragon into their sleeve, and go out to foil evil.
It was a terrible hobby, which Vigil would know if they ever took Peep’s advice.
The root of the problem, Peep had decided, was that Vigil was so caught up with how they could that they never considered whether they should. Yes, Peep’s human was remarkably clever, anyone could see that. Vigil didn’t let the fact that they were only an apprentice sorcerer get in their way— they dyed their hair to look like it had been turned blue by frequent exposure to magic, had Peep sit behind their ear to make the quiet world more understandable, and coaxed the lab’s firekeeping dragon to stay in their sleeve and breathe fire on command. With their face hidden, Vigil passed admirably for a fully grown sorcerer.
But they weren’t one, and that was going to get them in trouble one day if Peep didn’t figure out a way to help them.
“You’re going to get hurt,” Peep informed Vigil as he piled boxes into his arms.
“What are you talking about?” Vigil muttered, balancing the pile with precision. “Nothing in the back room is dangerous.” He sidestepped another apprentice coming into the storage room and emerged behind the counter.
“Not in the back room. You’re going to get hurt while out foiling evil if you keep it up. This woman says thank you and keep the change, and the rude guy next to her is trying to get your attention by snapping.”
Vigil dropped the change into the floating tip jar and turned to the man.
Shifts at the lab’s storefront, where anyone could purchase potion ingredients and charms prepared by the apprentices in the labs, were Peep’s busiest times as a hearing aid. Vigil could hear well enough if it was one well-enunciated person alone speaking, but the chaos of the labs, with everyone talking at once, meant he relied on Peep the most.
“He wants one mud-repelling charm,” Peep reported as the man talked, “and make it quick because he’s an asshole, or because he got mud on his very expensive shoes, something like that.”
Vigil made his thoughtful face while listening, one of the many ways he filled the pauses before he could respond in situations like these. “Sorry, we’re out of those. Can I get you anything else?”
The man did not want anything else.
“He said a bad word at you,” Peep said virtuously, because it considered cursing very terrible unless it was done by someone it approved of.
“I could tell,” Vigil muttered, watching the man storm out.
Peep itself was watching someone else enter the store— a rather short knight-in-training in a very unfashionable cap. Peep considered itself an expert on fashion, as well as on poetry and Vigil’s safety. It was because of its expertise on that latter subject that it noticed the knight-in-training. It watched them go right to the shelves of magical candy on the other side of the room, and approved.
“This little kid at the counter wants ingrediants for a stink potion,” Peep repeated absentmindedly as it mulled over the newcomer, and Vigil went back into the storeroom.
He mumbled the ingredients to himself as he found them on the shelves. “Glass eggs, spider eyes—”
“Gross,” Peep commented. “You need friends.”
“—black-spotted mushrooms. Friends would make this less gross how?”
“They wouldn’t. But they might keep you out of trouble.”
“And that’s exactly why I don’t need any. I like trouble.” Vigil went back to the counter and put the ingredients in the girl’s basket.
Peep took the opportunity to notice the knight-in-training again (they were still examining the candies) before turning back to its duties as a hearing aid.“She says thanks, and also that you need friends.”
“Quit it,” Vigil hissed, and greeted a regular customer who signed their request for a fever-reducing charm.
Peep quitted it for all of ten seconds before Vigil was searching the dusty back corners where the healing charms were stored. “You’re only a baby sorcerer, you can’t go around foiling evil all by yourself. Eventually evil will foil back.”
Vigil objected strongly to being called a baby sorcerer. “I hired a hearing aid, not a babysitter.”
“Wrong,” shouted Peep, who loved being right. “You hired a dragon, and a dragon always knows best.”
“Dragons also always live with several nest-mates, which you don’t have, so you’re one to talk about needing friends.” Vigil snatched a fever charm from where it had fallen on the floor with more violence than necessary and straightened up. There was a guilty pause. Dragons are excellent at telling when pauses are guilty. “I mean…” Vigil said quietly.
“Everyone needs friends,” Peep said, trying not to sound like it was going to cry. Unfortunately, dragons are as terrible at not sounding emotional as they are excellent at discerning guilty pauses.
Vigil stroked the tiny ridges of Peep’s back with one finger. “Hey, I didn’t mean that.” His voice was soft.
“I could have nest-mates if I wanted,” Peep said, still sniffling. Dragons’ lying abilities fall squarely between their skills at recognizing guilty pauses and not sounding emotional.
“Of course you could,” Vigil soothed. “You’re the best dragon I know.”
“Including Crackle?” Peep asked, wanting to be sure. “Crackle isn’t even that great of a firekeeper. I’m much better at being a hearing aid than it is at making fire.” Crackle had three nest-mates and its very own nesting hallow in the chimney over the lab’s fireplace, and was very conceited about it in Peep’s opinion.
Vigil abstained from passing judgement on Crackle. “You’re the best hearing aid a sorcerer could have. I’m sorry for what I said.”
Peep blew its nose on a lock of blue hair. “Ok.”
Vigil winced but didn’t comment on that. At the counter he gave the customer the fever charm and they exchanged a few words in sign language that Peep didn’t need to aid in, giving it time to search the room again for the knight-in-training, who was now carrying over a jar of blue candies to purchase. They looked at the apprentices behind the counter, all busy— and their eyes slid right over Vigil’s face without recognition.
Peep frowned to itself. They would never recognize Vigil as the hero who had saved them the other night on their own, not when Vigil had hid his face so well. Clearly, Peep had to intervene, for Vigil’s own good.
Pushing Vigil’s hair aside, Peep stretched itself out as far as it could without falling off his ear, and flapped its green wings urgently. The knight-in-training, not looking, didn’t notice. Humans were oblivious.
Peep flapped its wings some more, and puffed out some violet smoke. On the other side of the counter, the knight-in-training’s eyes flicked to the fading puff of violet in surprise, and followed it down to the tiny green dragon preening with victory, and then to the sorcerer it was perched on.
“You!” Kit shouted.
Peep quickly returned to its hearing aid position. “That knight person over there says ‘you!’ very loudly,” it told Vigil.
“Fuck,” Vigil whispered, trying to avoid the knight’s glare. “That’s the squire I helped the other night! How did they recognize me?”
“Big mystery,” Peep said unhelpfully.
The knight-in-training pushed their way closer to Vigil’s section of the counter, not to be ignored. “You’re that vigilante!”
“They say you’re a vigilante, and probably good friend material.” Peep gave the knight-in-training a wave. They waved back.
Vigil batted at his ear. “Stop that, stop being friendly! I’m a masked vigilante, people aren’t supposed to know who I am.”
The knight-in-training raised an eyebrow, looking at Vigil’s name tag. “In that case, why is your name literally the first half of the word vigilante? Doesn’t seem very masked to me.”
Peep crowed victoriously. “New friend! Can we keep them?”
let’s hurt tonight
hello, this was loosely based on a request that i will put below, that scene is in here but it’s definitely not the main focus of the one shot, hope you like it!!
anonymous: hiii i was wondering if you could do something where harry is eating you out but your work calls and you have to answer while he keeps going down on you???
Heels in one hand, purse and phone in the other, you skipped down the stairs to where Harry was waiting, hands in his pockets.
He turned at the sound of your bare feet padding on the hardwood and a grin stretched across his face when his eyes landed on you. You still weren’t used to that look; his eyes flaming with desire as they made their way across your body. You would never admit aloud what that look did to you, but you were sure Harry knew anyway.
His eyes slowly made their way back up to yours, but darted traitorously to your mouth, “I like your lipstick.” Was all he said as he admired the redness of your mouth as it stretched into it’s own grin.
the first time he made you squirt was when he was pounding into you for hours, he wouldn;t stop. you had already came twice but he was going for a third one. he was going to fast and getting in so deep. he was reaching every corner inside of you. your hair was a mess, your eyes were rolled to back of your head and your hands were scratching down namjoons back. finally, with an espcially deep thrust you came. your hands digging into him harder if that was even possible. when he pulled out of you, your core felt extremly wet and sticky. you and namjoon looked down, your eyes widening in realization of what had happened.
“let’s do that again baby girl.” he smirked.
“woah.” you heard jimin say, which caused you to look down at him. there he was with your cum dripping down from his nose, his lips and chin, there was even some on the bed. “did i really just make you squirt?”
Pool Day in Japan
honestly i couldn’t fucking help myself and i caved, writing this shitty ass imagine or whatever alright? and yes i am tom holland trash and he owns me blah blah so idk enjoy
“What do you mean you don’t want to go?” You shrugged, going back to sorting out your outfit for tomorrow’s tourist day. “Love, we’re in Japan! Come hang out with us!” You pulled your wrist out of his hold and walked farther away from him, heading toward the other side of the bed. Tom’s confused expression turned into him nodding. “You’re still mad at me, I guess?” You shrugged again, loving the irritation growing in his voice from your lack of interest in what he was saying. Tom groaned, letting his head fall back and his fingers push his hair back. “Fine,” he mumbled, walking into the bathroom to grab a towel and pulling a plain white shirt on, “you can stay here and, when you’re done pouting, you can meet us by the pool.” You ignored his last attempt at getting you to talk to him, frowning at the sound of the door closing.
Tom and you had arrived to Japan already in bad moods toward each other. Due to Tom’s lack of sleep, he was increasingly more irritated than he usually was. You tried your hardest not to blame him - you knew how hectic his schedule was. Whenever he’d snap at you, you’d give him his space or he’d immediately apologize. This time, however, Tom had snapped at you in front of Harry, Harrison and Jon. You had been begging him to take you to this Japanese store you had read about online - teas, herbs, candles. Tom had finally - you assumed - had enough of your constant asking and ‘whining’ and finally answered your request with a 'jesus, babe! If we have the time, we’ll fucking go, alright? Can you let it go now?’ and after seeing the lack of remorse on his face and having to see the sympathetic glances the other boys gave you, you decided to remain quiet and keep to yourself. Tom hadn’t noticed until a few hours after you had landed - after the interview, really. He tried to apologize after, but your pride kept you quiet as you obliged to his request of 'letting it go’.
You had finished picking out your wardrobe for tomorrow sight-seeing day with Harry and decided to scroll through your phone. You had placed your phone on silent and hadn’t heard the notification that Tom had sent you. You opened the text, seeing he had sent you a picture.
miiiiiissssss yooooouuu
You rolled your eyes at the caption, but couldn’t stop yourself from admiring the way your boyfriend looked in the picture. Your eyes trailed over every drop of water that looked strategically placed all over his chest, his skin tone looking a little darker from actually basking in the sun during the summer. Your eyes then traveled to his face: his jawline sharpened as he clenched it, the creases by his mouth, his eyes almost looking as if he were challenging you - teasing you. Your eyes traveled up just a little further, taking in the way his hair looked wet. It was quite possibly your favorite thing about him - if you could pick just one, his hair wet after a shower or drenched in sweat after the gym made you want to run your fingers through it, combing them through it and hearing his guttural groans from the satisfaction it gave him.
You sighed, realizing you both were wasting your time together not speaking. Summer was almost over and you’d have to go back home, leaving him for a few months while he was shooting. You pulled out the swimsuit you packed and headed to the bathroom to change.  Once you were dressed, you picked up a towel and slipped on your sandals, heading toward the elevator to take you to the lobby, where the pool was. You noticed the immense lack of people. Besides Tom, Harrison and Harry, there were only three other people inside - the other three people heading out toward the spa and away from the pool.
“Look who decided to join us!” You held your hands up in mock celebration and set your towel down on one of the lounge chairs. You felt arms wrap around you from behind and you relaxed under the cold touch, despite the inside of you feeling on fire from the contact. Tom’s lips met your shoulder, placing light kisses from the back of your shoulder to your neck.
“I’m sorry,” he turned you around, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you close to him. “I was dick, I shouldn’t have snapped at you.” You shook your head, letting your hand come up to push his wet hair back.
“It’s okay, Tom,” you whispered, reaching to kiss him. “I knew you were tired - you didn’t mean it. I’m not saying it’s an excuse, but I get why it happened.” You shrugged, your hands softly landing on his chest, feeling the cool water against them. “You look really good right now,” you whispered, not wanting his younger brother and best friend to hear you - even if they weren’t paying any attention to you. “Too good for me not to want you to take me,” you leaned into his ear, “right. here.” You felt his muscles tense under your touch as his grip around your waist tightened.
“You can’t say shit like that to me, and then not expect me to act on it.” His tone sounded warning, his head leaning to the right to kiss your jaw.
“That was the idea.” You shrugged, letting your hands slip lower, resting on the top of his trunks. His hands gripped yours, stopping you from going any further. “I think I have to go to the bathroom,” you announced loudly, winking at Tom, a silent invitation to join you. Harrison and Harry mumbled a quiet 'whatever’ with a shrug before going back to figure out who could hold their breath underwater longer. “Maybe, in a few minutes, you’ll have to go, too?” You asked, quieter than your earlier announcement. You were already walking backwards, smiling as Tom’s lips lifted into a smirk.
“You bet your ass I will.”
Unfortunate Event
Y/N waits anxiously for her date to come. Blind date is never her thing until her colleague said it’s about time she stops being too attached to her work and starts going out there. Nervously she texts her friend about her date’s whereabouts. Getting stood up doesn’t seem to be an option for her since she was basically forced to attend this blind date. All she wants is for this date to be smooth so she can go back home and watch The Bachelorette reruns.
It’s already an hour after their supposed meeting time and her date shows no sign of coming. Disappointed, she lets out a heavy sigh and cues the waiter to hand her the menu. She might not have a good date but at least she’d have some good meal.
“A table for one, then, Miss?” the waiter asks, trying to hide his sympathy.
“Seems so,” she mumbles lightly, “What if he walked in, saw me, and left? Oh, God… I’m gonna kill Mary.”
Not knowing what to answer, the waiter proceeds to wrap the fancy dining utensils which her date should be using by now. The sound of the plates clanking against each other had several people looking at her way with pitiful expressions and she just wants to bury herself. She leans in her chair to avoid the gazes and angrily texts her friend. She must’ve been so caught up in the state of her inner wrath that she doesn’t realize a tap on her shoulder.
“Ahem.”
“Yeah, sorry, yeah?” she still looks at her phone, not really paying attention to the person who is talking to her.
“You seem very… distraught. Mind if I sit here?”
She goes silent for a while, trying to put together the new scene in front of her. There, stands the Harry Styles in an undeniably attractive fashion choice. His hair is styled with a little quiff and the look is final with a friendly smile upon his face.
“Wait, what?”
Harry snorts seeing her genuine reaction, “Mind if I sit by the empty seat?”
She shakes her head, confusion still written on her face as Harry sits and motions the waiter to pour him some wine.
“What’re you looking at?” he asks since she has been staring at him the whole time.
She blinks away her own disbelief and opens her mouth slowly — almost a whisper that if he doesn’t come closer he won’t be able to hear her, “Aren’t you Harry Styles?”
“Yes, I am,” he answers in a whisper as well.
“You’re not my blind date, are you?”
“No, ‘m not,” he chuckles. By now, they’re only inches apart since they’re whispering and each tries to get what the other is saying in such a crowded place.
Harry continues, “Why are we whispering?”
She leans back, still puzzled of the sight in front of her. She’s supposed to have a date with a close friend of her colleague’s who’s described as pretty much nothing like the man sitting on his supposed place.
Harry giggles, “I sat behind you. You were anxious for the past hour, tossing and turning ‘round like a little whirligig.”
She blushes. It’s her thing. She’s not a very serious person, she’s just very much bubbly and impulsive and all that. She easily laughs at the lamest jokes, she gets panic over the silliest little things, she’s just very in the moment. That’s understandable how Harry finds her funny and interesting enough to get him turn around and talk to her. He doesn’t find this kind of personality often around him and he’d love to get to know people who are downright spontaneous in a world full of plans and agendas.
“Are you alone? Here, I mean,” she raises an eyebrow.
“Let’s just say we had the same unfortunate event tonight,” he winks.
“No fucking way!” she closes her mouth with her hands, “How can the Harry Styles got stood up?”
To this outspoken question, he bursts into laughter. He’s accustomed to people being awed by his presence but he never sees such honesty. He always has people far up his ass, saying things to his liking. This situation, for instance: if he were to be talking to one of the said people, they would definitely backbite the girl who stood him up. But this girl doesn’t care about Harry Styles, she looks like she’s just really excited to hear a story from her old friend, Harry.
“Do you think she walked in, saw me, and left?” he mimicked her low question earlier.
She pouts. He chuckles. He’s been chuckling a whole lot more in the past hour than he usually does in a week.
“I love your music, by the way.”
His eyes light up and do the talking for him: really?
“Yeah, love it. Sorta reminds me of the good music, you know the golden era of rock and roll,” she runs her on the tablecloth pattern, “Not saying that nowadays’ music isn’t good or anything. It’s just… yours seem very truthful and different — a good different, of course. Oh, God… I’m sorry I have a tendency to ramble on.”
“Don’t apologize. I find it soothing.”
“What?”
“You talking,” he straightens up himself.
“You’re so full of it,” she laughs outright.
They talk about music for almost an hour, how she thinks one of his tracks reminds her of Electric Light Orchestra and how he voluntarily spills his classified personal approach towards that album. She says she likes bands from the 70s and his album brings back the vibes back that she thinks had long left the music industry and he can’t help but feel appreciated in the sincerest way possible. He tells her how they produced the album in Jamaica and how he wanted to put so much of himself in the album. She admits how she listens to his album in the midst of working, shower, jogging, sometimes even when she just feels like dancing by herself in her room.
And he can’t stop smiling, can’t stop beaming, can’t stop enjoying the sight of a person who just gets him. It feels like she presses a click inside him.
“I really hope you get to make more music,” she speaks lightly as she chews her meal.
“You know…” he puts down his fork, “Since we seem to have the same taste in music, I have exclusive access to a Roger Waters’ gig this weekend.”
Her eyes widen as he goes on, “Would you like to come? I can pick you up.”
“Harry— I don’t think I can take advantage of you like that.”
Harry melts upon her confession. Any person with that offer usually takes it in a blink of an eye but here she is, rejecting a grand opportunity because she doesn’t want him to feel used.
“You’re not taking any advantage out of me.”
“If you let me pay you back then I’m definitely in,” she smiles.
He frowns, “Now that’s not how my mum raised me as a man taking a woman to a date.”
She’s taken aback by his word choice but before she could answer, a girl approaches Harry.
“Harry, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it was you,” she grabs him by his arm. Being a gentleman he is, he immediately stands up.
“You are…?” he asks. His eyes go back and forth from the girl to Y/N, as if saying he doesn’t know what the hell is going on.
“I’m Emily. Nick set us up?” the girl seems confused after seeing Y/N and tries to remind Harry of his supposed blind date.
“Emily, yeah, right…” his voice trails slowly as he looks over Y/N who seems somewhat out of place.
There is a clear muzziness written on Emily’s face. Y/N can tell Harry is a courteous man who can never be rude to anyone, hence she completely understands that he’s in a dilemma as in how to send her off and that the seat is no longer hers. So, she does what she thinks is right.
“Well, it turns out we don’t have the same unfortunate event tonight,” an ingenuous smile spreads across her cheeks, “I had just finished. Have a great night you two.”
She mutters a goodbye and thank you to Harry and finds her way to exit the restaurant. She doesn’t feel any remorse whatsoever. If anything, she feels lucky enough to have a heartfelt talk with someone as wonderful as Harry.
Although, she can’t help but wonder if he actually means the last word he said. They don’t even have each other’s phone number so that date can’t ever occur. She won’t lie that she feels a little disappointed but then again, they’re not supposed to be having dinner together in the first place.
So she casually walks down the street. A disbelief giggle leaves her mouth. She still can’t believe she actually just had dinner with one of the people from her iPod.
She decides to put an earphone and hums to a song as she reaches the crossroad.
There was love all around, but I never heard it singing,” she almost jumps when someone no other than the Harry Styles himself singing the song she’s listening to right beside her in a crowded crossroad. Apparently, her hums are not that soft that he can sing along.
She’s surprised but can’t hide her excitement to see him by her side.
No, I never heard it at all till there was you,” he ends with a smile.
She grabs off her earphone, “Thought you had a date back there?”
“I did,” he puts his hands into his coat pockets, “Had to get her back home safely now, didn’t I?“
She just grins, unsure of what is happening. She just keeps pinching herself hoping this isn’t one of her unrealistic dreams.
“You didn’t realize I was right behind you the whole time, eh?”
“I was just… thinking,” she reasons as she feels her cheeks turn fire red.
“About our date this weekend?” a cheeky smile appears on his pretty face and to that she just rolls her eyes.
His hand finds his way to embrace the side of her body and she leans into his broad chest as she hands him one tip of her earphone, the other tip being in her ear and they just keep humming on the way home, enjoying each other’s company and the unfortunate event they had tonight.
This party sucks.
His phone screen is dark and it mocks him even as he pastes on a smile for the girl currently cuddling into his side. What was her name again? Ye Eun? Eunha?
Fuck if he knows.
All he knows is that you’re not replying to his texts, and he needs to get drunk asap before he does something stupid like call you. The girl he currently has his arm around beckons to her friend from a distance away, and Jeongguk tries his best to keep his eyes off her tits in her low cut tube dress as she approaches with a giggle.
“Jeongguk, right?” Girl number 2 sidles up to his unoccupied side and he immediately feels her breasts against his arm. They’re firm to the touch, which either means that they’re entirely fake, or that there’s enough padding in her bra for it to be a bulletproof vest.
Either way, yours feel a million times better.
Sirius Black had always traveled to King’s Cross with incredible joy in his heart knowing that he wouldn’t have to return to Grimmauld Place, 12 for several months and that he wouldn’t see his family for a very long time. This was the first time Sirius had trouble getting out of his bed on 1st of September. He didn’t know how to explain it but it felt like a hippogriff was sitting on his chest making it hard to breathe.
“Padfoot,” sighed James. “If you make me miss the train, I will steal all of Remus’ chocolate and blame it on you and he will believe me.”
“Idunwanowunintmmawf,” said Sirius into his pillow.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I don’t want to run into my mother,” he replied sitting up realising he didn’t have the strength to deal with James Potter at the moment.
“We will move quickly and we won’t see even a string of her hair,” smiled James. “That’s a promise, Pads.”
“But she will see us Prongs,” mumbled Sirius looking like a lost puppy. “That bitch has her ways, she always finds me and Regulus in the crowd.”
“Don’t be fucking ridiculous and get out of the bed” ordered James in return as he attempted carrying his trunk down the stairs for a second. “MUUUUUM can I locomotor my trunk dooooownn?”
“NO,” said Euphemia sternly from downstairs. “You’ll carry it down James and so will Sirius.”
“But muuuum-”
“James, dear, you are sixteen years old,” explained his mum like she was talking to a small child to make sure he doesn’t set the house on fire. “Stop acting like you are four or that girl you like so much won’t even look your way let alone like you. Independent women like grown men, not needy children.”
Euphemia Potter had a way with her son, she knew where all of his buttons were and how to push them just right because James Potter and his trunk were downstairs the Muggle way in a minute after the pep talk she had given.
The breakfast was calmer than usual with Fleamont being at work and Sirius acting like he is half dead. When they were completely ready to floo themselves to the train station, Euphemia put her hand softly on Sirius’ shoulder, a kind of touch he wasn’t still used to after almost two months.
“Sirius,” began Euphemia. “What’s wrong? You know you can talk to me.”
“I just really don’t want to run into my mother,” confessed Sirius. “I’m scared of what she might do to you.”
James shook his head in disbelief, he found it hard to understand the irrational fear Sirius had. He knew Walburga was one disturbed woman but he also knew his mother shouldn’t be underestimated.
“Walburga should be scared of running into me,” said Euphemia half jokingly but James knew what would happen if they were to run into that woman. “I can handle him dear.”
Sirius nodded as convincingly as he could before he grabbed floo powder from the porcelain bowl standing next to the marble fireplace.
“King’s Cross,” he said clearly and he was gone with the green flames in seconds.
It didn’t take long for James and his mum to come with the flames. They hurried towards the Platform 9 ¾ with their trolleys and James ran face first into the wall just to disappear into thin air and then Euphemia and Sirius ran to the other side of the wall as well.
Hogwarts Express was standing with all it’s crimson glory waiting for the students to get in to take them to Hogwarts. The three of them walked hastily to where the Marauders’ compartment was. They stood in front of the door to say their goodbyes.
“Be good,” said Euphemia. “I don’t want any letters from Minerva this year James.”
“Mum, you know I can’t promise anything.”
“Where did I go wrong while raising you?” she asked curiously. “Don’t answer that.”
“Sirius, write to me whenever you feel like it,” she reminded. “I’ll be expecting you home for Christmas, alright?”
“Yes, mum,” said Sirius and choked on his words almost instantly as a warm smile formed on Euphemia’s lips and James’ eyes lit up like they were fairy lights.
“Tsk tsk, Sirius,” came Walburga’s cold voice behind them. “We shouldn’t call blood traitors who didn’t give birth to us ‘mum’.”
It seemed like Sirius had shrunk in size as Euphemia stepped in front of him protectively.
“Tsk tsk Walburga,” she repeated. “We shouldn’t eavesdrop on conversations that aren’t ours and give opinions that no one asked for. He can call me ‘mum’ whenever he wants to, seeing that his actual mother is not available at the moment.”
Walburga made an attempt to grab Sirius by the wrist but Euphemia was agile for her age and she was holding onto Sirius’ wrist like he would die if she let go.
“You won’t touch my son and I’m not talking about James.”
“I suggest you stay out of this Euphemia, this is none of your business.”
“Oh, you made it my business when this boy showed up in my living room, barely breathing,” shot back Euphemia with all the rage that had been building up in her. Sirius was hiding behind her, careful not to catch Walburga’s piercing eyes.
“You are exaggerating,” she replied. “Nothing wrong with a little tough love.”
“I know an Unforgivable Curse when I see one Walburga,” she hissed just loud enough for people around them to hear, Walburga was turning purple with anger. “If I could, I would take Regulus from you, too, before he ends up dead from your tough love.”
“How dare you speak to me like that?”
“The same way you dare torture your children Walburga,” she said without blinking. “Now let go of my wrist and stay away from my sons.”
Sirius was trembling behind Euphemia who was standing like she was the queen of the universe, she didn’t move until Walburga Black turned around and left.
“I told you I could handle her,” she said with a reassuring smile and caressed Sirius’ cheek softly. Sirius noticed the marks on Euphemia’s wrist then, burn marks like the long boney fingers of his mother. “As long as you got me, she can never come close to you and know that there’s nothing wrong with you calling me mum. Anyone would be proud to have you as a son and I am, too.”
“I- I can heal that if y-you want m-mum,” said Sirius, his voice shaking with the weight he was feeling on his shoulders. “I’ve- I’ve gotten pretty g-good with h-healing charms.”
“No Sirius, I can fix it. You forget you are not allowed to practice magic outside of Hogwarts,” she reminded and laughed a little. “It’s funny that a woman of her age is unable to control her magic like a toddler.”
Sirius’ eyes were still fixed on Euphemia’s thin wrist, his eyes filling up with the anger and sadness he was feeling. He lifted his eyes just a little to give a guilty look to James and saw his best friend smiling warmly down at him, he didn’t hide his pity but he didn’t have to. James always found it rather unlucky that Sirius ended up in such a messy family and never lied about how he felt about that situation, his pity was because he cared.
“Mum’s a big girl mate,” he said like he knew Sirius was about to spiral down and he needed someone to say something, anything. “She can take care of herself.”
“He is right, love,” nodded Euphemia. “Now, off you go, we don’t want you to miss the train because of something as unimportant and miserable as Walburga.”
“Just call her a bitch, mum.”
“James Fleamont Potter,” began Euphemia as she jokingly flicked her son’s arm. “You kiss me with that mouth and you will stop saying that word, even though some people deserve it, or so help me Merlin I’ll ground you until the end of time.”
“Okay, okay,” surrendered James. “I’ll just call her a goblin.”
“That’s my boy,” she replied and the spark came back to Sirius’ grey eyes. Euphemia hugged both of them and gave them loud kisses before she pushed them towards the train. “Don’t forget to write to me when you get there.”
“Sure, mum,” said Sirius with a grin before he was dragged away by an over eager James.
