THE  STAGE  IS  SET  -  THE  CURTAIN  RAISES    (once again)

________________________________________________________________

A  STAGE  PLAY  BASED  ON  MATHEMATICS ?

THE  QUEST  FOR  FACTOR  X    (or You maybe :)

_______________________________________________________________

This is partly a recostruction of my ‘lost’ post (same name) from 28th December. I limit this one to the topic of deduchtion and then ponder about three possible starting points for Sherlock’s deducing/dreaming process. All three of them are located earlier than Series 3 - therefore I call it EEMP - for Extraordinary Extended Mind Palace  (first thoughts: X X)

Of Course the new episodes of Series 4 have left their marks already. Maybe the rest of the 'lost’ post will follow too (Rosamund - the elephant in the room - symbol for Sherlock’s love for John)

_______________________________________________________________

DREAMS ARE VERY TRICKY THNGS

Dreams take the information gathered in our heads …. shake it up …. mix it …. blend it …. and present it then in a new order or different shape. That makes it very hard to pull single threads appart, line up what belongs together, make sense of the whole mess. On the other hand, in dreams our subconscious mind  is able to connect certain things, events, characters we wouldn’t think of while awake … or the one we don’t want to think of.

THE PROCESS OF ELIMINATION

In earlier posts I compared Sherlock's deducing process inside his head to a sort ot 'Mind-Stage’. Like a director he acts out whole plays, casts different characters for differnt roles … real-life-characters as well as fictional ones … to solve the pending problems. Inside such a 'play’ Sherlock might fill in the unknown factors with fictional characters who vary and change with every new finding … with every repetition ot the experiment. That would explain the very short appearances of people like Sholto, Janine, Magnusson, Irene … and so on. They are popping up out of nowhere, have little or no background and then vanish as quickly as they appeared on the stage. Having only one function … to help solving the mystery. Just like in a mathematical equation one inserts X or Y for unknown factors. They can stand for anything or ANYONE. And such a 'thought-experiement’ can be repeated over and over again until an ultimate solution is achieved.

If Sherlock uses such methods for his deductions when he is awake and fully functioning is it very farfetched to assume his unconscious mind would apply similar methods? Seems plausible to me. And if he wants to deduce himself Sherlock would also apply the same methods. Anyway … something happened to Sherlock that triggered this sort of thinking/dreaming process and I suspect it began some time ago. Over the course of the last episodes it gets clear that Sherlock’s condition seems to downgrade constantly and rather quickly. Stand-in characters change more rapidly, multiple different memories get mingled, the sequences become shorter, everything feels more erratic, confusing and carries an expression of fear and panick. Is Sherlock close to a near death situation? Quite possible.

But when did all of this start? Where have we left the boys? This might be important for deductins considering what events can be counted as 'dream-material’ and what not. How many puzzle pieces are ther to play with? In an earlier post (The stage is set - that sadly doesn’t exist anymore) I named three possible starting points:

1.  NEAR THE END OF 'THE REICHENBACH FALL’

Frankly, this was my very first idea after I’d watched series 3 for the first time. I thought 'Jesus, Sherlock jumped and hit his head badly and now he is in coma and fantasizes the whole thing’. Don’t get me wrong … I love Series 3 with my whole heart … it is heartbreaking and beautiful. It just … doesn’t feel real. But no one else seemed to doubt the reality and so for a long time I went with the general reading of S3. But the uneasy feeling that something isn’t quite right with thiis story never really left me. What a joy to find at last some people who had apparently similar thoughts. @monikakrasnorada @gosherlocked and @the-7-percent-solution … the Pionieers of EMP-Theory. From this point onwards … a year ago now … investigating and deducing became really, really exciting. Thank you for this wonderful experience! And it got even better when our little group expanded. @isitandwonder  @tjlcisthenewsexy @longsnowsmoon5  @loveismyrevolution @yan-yae @tendergingergirl @may-shepard and @skulls-and-tea …. you are brilliant and awesome and I love you! Special thanks for your kindness and tolerance with my rather 'out of the box’ ideas! So, that had to be said!

Back to Reichenbach now. I lost a bit sight of it with all the new different and faszinating ideas that were born in our little group. Only a short while ago @loveismyrevolution came up with a very plausible and probably heartbreaking idea that would strenghen a Reichenbach-Startingpoint. Unfortunately Christmas happened and then S4 … but as soon as this meta is written I will link it here. Music never lies! Here it is X

2.  AFTER THE POOL INCIDENT

A lot of data seems to point in this direction. All the 'going back’ hints before,  during and after the shooting of S4. John’s counter reaching 1895 hits happens as he writes 'Sherlock Holmes baffled’ at the beginning of ASIB. Six months later at Christmas the counter is still stuck on 1895 (Bond Air Conundrum)  More on this topic can be found in 'Neat, don’t you think'  'Strange similarities’ and ’Boomerang’. And of course in 'A little girl with braided hair’ … a girl called Mary near a lake with an airoplane in her hands.

The last case before Sherlock and John are summoned to Buckingham Palace to investigate Irene Adler happens on a stage. 'The naval treaty’ or 'The bellybutton murders' The BELLYBUTTON connects to a very interesting episode of House MD. Mostly all of it plays inside the head of the clever doctor who is clearly shaped after Sherlock Holmes. Also there is a brilliant meta by @tjlcisthenewsexy regarding the bellybutton as well  ’TAB - as the whales belly'  Maybe that’s the time … around the naval-treaty-case … where the stage for Sherlocks thinking/dreaming process is set.

3.  NEAR THE END OF THE UNAIRED PILOT

Impossible? Who knows. Why was there a special Panel for the 'Unaired Pilot’ at Sherlocked Con 2016? It’s just the unaired Pilot!

Then Steven Moffat’s words at the 'Post Mortem’ interview. 'He (Sherlock) hasn’t woken up yet. He dozed off in a car’ The only time something like this happens to Sherlock is in the 'UNAIRED PILOT’. But most interesting is Mark’s reaction to this statement. He lays the finger to his lips in the universal gesture of ‘Keep quiet … don’t say anything more’. Maybe Sherlock is still druged and in the hands of a serial killer hoping John will turn up in time to save him. Sounds a lot like 'The lying detective’

Watch here at  00.47

And of course there are the discrepancies regarding the date of the first meeting of Sherlock and John. On John’s Blog it is January 29th. In the PILOT it is January 14th. In that case the 'day after’ would be the 15th January.  The air-date for 'The Final Problem’ 2017. What reason could there have been to change this date in the first place?

Also Benedict’s statement via Crime Magazine   - that S4 will show who Sherlock really is. The Sherlock portraied in the PILOT is a slightly differrent man … softer, more emotional … than the one we know from the regular sereies.

A fluffy version for a PILOT starting point.

________________________________________________________________

One thing is sure …. everything is possible with Steven and Mark at the steering wheel of this ship. A surprise still might await us no one has thought of yet. If I had to choose one of the three optiions above mentioned …. it would be a hard choice. I love the PILOT. I love but fear the REICHENBACH … music never lies. But my bet would be on 'AFTER THE POOL’ … because of all the references to fire and water throughout the whole story. The fire of the exploding bomb and the engulfing water.

In a few days we will be wiser.

Deceptions

I almost forgot to write that birthday fic for Claire @spookyclaire (sorry for the delay sweetheart !!!)

Some Blangst, directly inspired by Glee 5x18 – Blaine doesn’t like lying to Kurt …

He knows that he did it for all the right reasons.

Deep inside, Blaine knows that he lied to Kurt about him having a spot on the showcase to save Kurt from the heartache of not being included.
