i want to see the universe expand

Humans Are Actually Alteans

NOW HERE ME OUT. This is just something I’ve been thinking about since all Alteans can’t just be gone and it makes me too sad to think that Allura and Coran are the last ones.

So what I was thinking with how humans can be Alteans actually relates back to how the Blue Lion was created. In Voltron Force there was this arc explaining that five planets brought together resources to create the Voltron Lions, I don’t remember that arc very well but it made me think

“What is the Blue Lion was built on earth?”

Again hear me out, a loooooong time ago even more 10,000 years ago Earth was having an ice age people. It makes sense that the Blue Lion, Guardian Spirit of Water was built on a planet covered more or less 70% in water and ice. My money is that the Blue Lion was built underwater to be kept safe, along with the researchers, in an underwater city sounds familiar huh?

If that’s the case, maybe a couple hundred scientists, researchers, explorers, etc may have called Atlantis and Earth their home for a time but the planet was not very suitable for a mass population to live on which may factor in to why Earth has been left untouched by the rest of the universe. Anyway, moving forward it’d also be interesting if a few other species like the Merfolk and perhaps even other species humans could consider myths now were actually other alien species that remained on earth

Now, why did they remain on earth? For this the first thing that came to mind was Ilos from Mass Effect. That when Zarkon and the Galra empire rose to take over the empire, the planets the Lions were built on were cut off from the rest of the universe to prevent Zarkon from conquering them and learning the secrets of the Lions

And like Ilos, the Altean research team could have put themselves in cryo perhaps to wait things out or for the Voltron Force to arrive, other species like the merfolk and even other Alteans could have lived and maintained the city along with others and they could have become keepers to the city and the Alteans but it couldn’t have lasted forever right? It would take a lot of resources they’d eventually have to journey to the surface when the ice began to melt

Some Alteans and other species that had lived on Atlantis chose to live on the surface, perhaps alongside the small human population that survived the Ice Age. The Alteans took their features to blend in and accepted their new home and the species. Only a handful remained in Atlantis, some Alteans, mostly merfolk since a few pods were left active, perhaps the Alteans with the most knowledge of their culture and Voltron.

Then, when the species began to intermingle. Humans and Alteans began to evolve into a new form of Alteans that lost their mystical abilities like manipulating quintessence from lack of exposure to its raw form or maybe even losing the art from it not being caught. It happens over long periods of time, these Humans/Alteans lose their long life spans and the Altean culture. They eventually lose the points of their ears and the markings on their bodies but evolve to adapt and survive in harsh environments so that’s how humans got their current appearance. Because really, they are the ONLY species we’ve seen that resemble Alteans, literally the only different appearance wise are the ears and face marks.

Also I’m thinking around modern times human’s lifespans may have grown again to around 100-150 years but not nearly as long as the original Alteans (again, a Mass Effect reference, shh)

I’m not saying these human/Alteans lost everything about them that makes them Altean, but many of the information and culture was lost when Earth had to cut its ties completely to keep hidden from the Druids and Zarkon’s rise to power. There may even be some Alteans descendants that still remember the stories of their people and their abilities, some may even still have such abilities and watch over Earth

These Human/Alteans that still remember tend to retain their long lifespans and have been watching over the planet and protecting it, maybe they’re an order of sorts for them? They may have also helped humanity evolve faster through technological advances

Perhaps there are members among the Galaxy Garrison?

Now I’m going into more headcanon territory now but imagine if Sam Holt was one of these Altean/Humans? Or maybe he may even have been one of the scientists in the cryo pods who was one of the original scientists to work on the Blue Lion? Or maybe he was just a descendant that remembered

Just, I’m not letting go of all that foreshadowing he said to Katie during the last family dinner that she will be a part of her own team and do something extraordinary. If he helped built Voltron who’s to say he can’t notice a potential pilot? Also, back to Sam being Altean, he’d jump at the chance to be on a mission to travel out to Kerberos, the furthest humanity has gotten out to space he’d give anything to go out there and see the universe again because how much do these Alteans really know about how damaged the universe has become?

And everything is great! That is, until Sam and the Kerberos crew are captured and his hopes are shattered by the state of the universe and what Zarkon has done to it annnndddd that’s all I got

Well, besides an idea that Zarkon could potentially be rounding up any species/people that have Altean blood in them because they could still be a threat to him and perhaps he has a prison for them? Has them experimented on? Maybe even turns them into whatever Haggar is. After the Haggar is Altean reveal there must be more Alteans out there, I just like to think they’re a little closer to home haha see what I did there

ANYWAY If anyone wants to expand on this idea go for it, and please tell me about it, also I just really wanted to find a way for the Altean race to keep living on even if it’s in a different form, this may even apply to other Alteans around the universe, they’re still alive just in different forms and shapes to survive

And to end on a happier note anyone who wanted a valid reason for Altean Lance YOU’RE WELCOME

I was lucky enough to attend the Pacific Rim: Uprising NYCC panel at Madison Square Garden (and sat in the first row ayyy~~) and took a bunch of notes lol. The panel included the director Steven S. DeKnight, and a few members of the main cast including John Boyega, Cailee Spaeny, Scott Eastwood, and Burn Gorman. Here’s my recap:

General Worldbuilding Tidbits

  • Pacific Rim: Uprising is set 10 years in the future after the last film. DeKnight said that they wanted to show a “new generation of Jaeger pilots who have known nothing but chaos.”
  • Previous characters slated to return, as seen by the trailer, include Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), Dr. Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman), and Dr. Newt Geiszler (Charlie Day).
  • The new main “trio” seems to consists of the main lead, Jake Pentecost, and the late son of Stacker Pentecost (John Boyega), Jake’s best friend and Jaeger pilot Nate Lambert (Scott Eastwood), and tech-savvy Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny).
  • 10 years later, the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) has come together to work as an international fighting force, with all of humanity working together - i.e. Jaegers are no longer coded by specific country, like the Russian Jaegers, Australian Jaegers, etc.
  • This also allowed the opportunity to build Jaegers from the ground up, since they were all previously destroyed in the first film. It was jokingly claimed, “we cancelled the apocalypse and then un-cancelled it to make this movie.”
  • DeKnight discussed how  Del Toro originally set the table with Pacific Rim as a “fantastic visual feast,” so the goal with the sequel was to honor the original, but also expand the universe at the same time.
  • John Boyega claimed that they weren’t trying to “rewrite what Guillermo Del Toro did, but rather to build upon and expand this universe, and where the humans are at now.”
  • Boyega also talked about how he came onto work behind-the-scenes creatively on the film as a producer. He described Pacific Rim as one of the only franchises he’s come across where the fans are hopeful and “sacred science fiction ground."
  • Going in, Boyega felt like he had the same creative passion as DeKnight. When they met in LA for the first time, they went over the specific Jaegers and basically what Boyega wanted to see after Pacific Rim. He claimed that "I believe this is everything you want Pacific Rim to be."
  • One of the goals of Pacific Rim: Uprising is to explain exactly what happened 10 years after the first film, but not necessarily be a complete detachment to the origin story. It was highlighted that there are a lot of young teenage characters in the cast and hopefully that’ll be something that new viewers can relate to.
  • According to DeKnight, one of the overarching themes of Pacific Rim is: "It doesn’t matter who your parents are, the color of your skin, your religion, or sexual orientation, you can make a difference and be a hero. It’s the human inside the Jaegers that makes you super."
  • Pacific Rim: Uprising was filmed both in Australia and China. The cast pretty much agreed that as a director, DeKnight runs a "relaxed” and “creative” set - it was a tough schedule, but the actors all felt that they could still have creative input.

New Jaegers

  • DeKnight called them all “badass,” with Gipysy Avenger leading the charge.
  1. Gipsy Avenger: Has a lot of upgrades, including a Gravity Sling which allows the Jaeger to reach out and grab buildings, cars, etc. and hurl them directly at the Kaiju.
  2. Bracer Phoenix: This is the brute force Jaeger. One of its special abilities, above many, is the fact that it’s a three-pilot machine. Therefore, the third pilot can drop into the chamber and operate a pair of massive guns called the Vortex Cannon.
  3. Saber Athena: This is the most advanced Jaeger in the fleet that uses Plasma swords. Also described as a “little experimental,”  and “incredibly swift.”
  4. Titan Redeemer: Has a special weapon called the “ball of death,” which is attached to the end of his arm. According to DeKnight, this was “pretty damn cool."
  5. Guardian Bravo: Is another brute force Jaeger that has a special weapon called the "graphine arc whip."
  6. Scrapper: Described as a "little guy,” that’s been slapped together. Since in the future, there are a lot of people pilfering and stealing PPCD technology to make their own Jaegers.
  • During the Q&A, an audience member asked if all the new Jeagers run on analog. DeKnight claimed one Jaeger is built on sticks (lmao), but the general idea is that no EM-powered Kaijus will be able to take down the Jaegers in this film.

Jake Pentecost (John Boyega)

  • Boyega stated that he “loved the first movie and one of the reasons was Idris Elba.” So, he understood the big shoes that he had to fill. Boyega claimed he understood this responsibility, but  "we [the cast] all worked as a unit, and Jake Pentecost doesn’t exist without the other characters. This is also a great ensemble piece.“
  • When the moderator asked if Jake is trying to live up to Sacker’s legacy, Boyega jokingly claimed: "Hell no!” He went to explain that “the greatest heroes don’t accept legendary status. It takes a tussle and a turn and for Jake’s position. Where we find Jake in the beginning of the film is in very different circumstances from his Dad.”
  • Boyega described Jake as a “stealer, a hustler, and lives in half a mansion. He’s really a guy that doesn’t want to live up to the Pentecost name.”
  • Jake is bought back into the PPCD in a very unique way through his connection to Cailee Spaeny’s character Amara. So, Jake is bought into this adventure and decides that he’s gotta “step up,” after realizing that the “Pentecost name still means something to people."
  • During the Q&A, an audience member asked Boyega what’s the most rewarding part of being a sci-fi icon. He claimed that he doesn’t feel like one, but working on both Pacific: Rim Uprising has been exciting, since it’s allowed him to jump into various elements of sci-fi that he loved growing up.

Nate Lambert (Scott Eastwood)

  • Eastwood described him as a Jaeger pilot who’s one of the best out there. Yet, he’s still "the tip of the spear,” and really nothing without his best friend Jake.
  • Jake and Nate still have issues in this movie to work out from the past, so Eastwood felt that coming back around and dealing with a lost time with these characters was something cool to explore as an actor.
  • Eastwood also emphasized that while yes, there is plenty of action in the film, it “has a great story first and foremost.”

Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny)

  • This was Spaeny’s first film that she was ever cast for. So, she was definitely intimidated and a bit terrified, but knew that fans were so supportive of the first film.
  • Spaeny didn’t actually watch Pacific Rim until she got the audition for the sequel, and really took it upon herself to dive into the universe in order to understand and respect the original film.
  • In terms of Spaeny’s film experience, there was also diving into tons of stunts and action and lots of skills that she to catch onto , since she was participating in a whole world that’s already been created.
  • But Spaeny felt that both DeKnight and the cast were very supportive and helpful, whenever she had questions, so it was really easy for her to dive into Cailee’s character. She also bonded with DeKnight since this was the first feature-length, theatrical film that he ever directed.
  • Spaeny described Amara as very “independent,” and super “badass.” She’s also a tech-savvy person.
  • For Amara’s backstory, her entire family was killed in the first wave of Kaiju attacks. So, Amara really “takes it upon herself to dive into Jaeger tech and make sure that when Kaiju do come back, she’ll be ready to fight and protect herself."
  • While Amara’s past is very different from Jake’s, Spaeny claimed that both of them still see a lot of things in similar ways.

Dr. Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman)

  • Gorman said he was very excited to be back in the sequel, which felt like "being back in the playground.” He also joked, "I’ve been lucky enough with this face that God gave me to play a few jerks on screen,” when an audience member briefly highlighted his past roles on Torchwood, Revenge, Game of Thrones, and The Dark Knight Rises.
  • Gottlieb still has problems with personal hygiene. Gorman claimed, “let’s just say that he hasn’t changed his socks since the last film."
  • In comparison to Charlie Day’s character (Dr. Newt Geiszler) who has moved onto the private sector, Gottlieb chose to stay behind with the PPCD and arguably their most important scientist at the highest level at this point. So, Gorman joked that Gottlieb now, in effect, has a "really great budget,” to work with now.
  • However, DeKnight makes it clear that where we find Gottlieb is: “as a man still very much affected in what happened in the previous film in terms of his drift and communication with the Kaiju.

There was a brief Q&A and the last question really stuck out to me, where an audience member asked each cast member to sum up their Pacific: Rim Uprising experience in one word:

  • John Boyega: Unity
  • Cailee Spaeny: Life-Changing
  • Scott Eastwood: International
  • Steve S. DeKnight: Mind-blowing
The Dark Side Awaits

The cast and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi give us the lowdown on new creatures, new cast members and who might be going to the dark side.

SciFiNow Magazine #139

[ I transcribed this myself so please credit + link back to me if you’re sharing/quoting anything from this piece ]

Most film franchises like to play their cards close to their chests, but Star Wars is in another league. It’s understandable that the franchise known for pulling off one of the greatest shock twists in movie history wants to keep plotlines on the down low, but by goodness it makes it hard to write about them.

So here’s what we know about Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Rey goes to Luke Skywalker to seek Jedi training while Finn, Poe Dameron and General Leia’s Resistance continues to fight against the First Order, led by Kylo Ren, General Hux, Captain Phasma and the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke. So, basically, exactly where The Force Awakens left off.

There are hints and suggestions at where the story may go. We know that Finn and new character Rose end up at a giant casino, and we know that Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern have joined the cast. But other than that, everything is tightly under wraps. And, as far as del Toro is concerned, that’s exactly how it should be: “The fans want that wrapping paper around that Christmas gift,” he says. “Don’t give it to them without the paper. They don’t want to see it when they walk in the room. They don’t want to know.”

For Kelly Marie Tran, a newcomer to both Star Wars and movies in general, who plays Rose, her casting in The Last Jedi came with mind-boggling levels of secrecy. She wasn’t even allowed to tell her family that she’d got the part, or even that she was filming in London, in case they put two and two together. “I told everyone… I was doing a small indie movie in Canada. I would send pictures of Toronto that I got from Google to my friends saying ‘this is where I am!’. It was a weird time.”

Security was similarly tight on set. “Everyone is in these tinted-window cars, transported from one part of the set to another,” Tran explains. “And you’re wearing these like black robes. They’re like secrecy robes, so no one can tell who you are. It’s insane the amount of security there is.”

ok losers it’s your girl polcry here to run you through the basics of what the darn heck to bring with you to university to cover your naked body

B A S I C S

If you’re edgy and ~minimalist~ these’ll probably comprise the majority of your wardrobe. Regardless, you’re going to want to bring at least a few each of these.

LEGGINGS: at least one black pair, possibly more if you’ve accepted the inevitability of not giving a shit how you look at for 9ams. You can also get funky and bring patterned ones if you so desire, you maverick.

JEANS: I prefer jeggings for the comfort feel and ability to do spontaneous high kicks, but if you’re a fashionista boyfriend or bootcut jeans are cool too. Trust me, the freshman fifteen is real and if you have to choose between a lil’ too big and a lil’ too small, go big. Belts exist for a reason.

T-SHIRTS: you can get a wide array of fits of tees, so bring a few of your favourite style in simple colours like white/black/grey/striped. I find slightly wearing a slightly oversized tee gives off a certain effortless vibe, especially if you tuck the front in to the waistband of jeans to give it an IDGAF drape and pair with cute AF shoes. Hella cute with no effort.

SWEATSHIRTS/JUMPERS/SWEATERS: I live in jumpers. I’m not going to lie. Go oversized with leggings or skinny jeans, maybe add a layer underneath if it’s a lil’ chilly. If you live somewhere that feels like the depths of Antartica, you might want to go with a finer knit and layer under and above. The struggle of getting a thick coat over a chunky jumper is real, guys. Turtlenecks, crew necks, V-necks. They’re all good. Avoid collecting too many sweatshirts with your university’s name on it, though - you will look over-enthusiastic.

SHOES: one word: COMFORT. Campuses are big places. Chances are, you’ll be walking a fair bit. I love trainers - I have a pair of black Nikes, a pair of white Reeboks and a black slip-on pair. Converse, Adidas, New Balance are all popular. They crop up on the feet of almost everyone. Look down, and I guarantee the vast majority of any university class are wearing trainers.

If you’re like me and enjoy torturing yourself, you can also wear heeled boots. I find them weirdly comfortable, probably due to my excessively hyperextended knees. Pointy ankle boots always look chic, but frankly people will be so surprised that you’ve made an effort that any type will impress. Zara’s always a good choice for cute boots.

I’d avoid opened-toed or flats that expose a lot of your foot during autumn/winter/spring. It’ll probably rain, and then you’ll be cold and miserable and have soggy feet. Wellies (or rainboots for you strange Yanks) are a good choice if you’ll be in a wet climate (hello England), but they can be a bit cumbersome. Try and get some lower-cut ones to reduce the weight and to stop you from stomping excessively.

COATS: this is pretty personal. Again, if it’s wet, I’d recommend something at least water-resistant. I have a North Face windbreaker that I keep in my car in case it starts tipping it down, but it’s not particularly warm. Leather/suede jackets look cute but are not a good choice if it looks like it might rain. Other than that, anything goes. I have a cute beige pea coat from ASOS that I love, and a shearling jacket from Bershka which is far too cool for a dork like me.

L O U N G E W E A R

PJs: buy yourself some new ones. Please. Your flatmates don’t want to see your lady parts through that ever-expanding hole in the crotch. Some university flats feel like the pits of hell, so it might be a good idea to bring a few pair of short PJs too. You can always swap them out for joggers or leggings when you’re not snoozin’. I can always find cute pyjamas in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Primark.

SWEATPANTS: as comfy as PJs but with the added bonus of being socially acceptable. Whether you prefer a tapered, slim fit or big ‘n’ baggy, make sure they’re stain-free and don’t smell funky. Bring a couple of pairs and rotate through as necessary.

BRAS: regardless of whether you have the athletic capabilities of a sloth or Michael Phelps, you will want to bring sports bras. Hides the nips with basically no discomfort. Bralettes are cute too, but I’m an advocate of sports bras if you’re just slugging out in front of Netflix and nobody is going to see it. Forever 21 do a massive selection of surprisingly pretty sports bras with all sorts of fancy backs. Not so good for exercising, but really the majority of people don’t wear sports bras to exercise.

F A N C Y

PARTYING: this will depend a little on where you attend university. For me, going out outfits are high-waisted jeans, a fancy-ish crop top and flat shoes of some description. Club floors get hella slippery. More casual dresses are fine too, but make sure you gauge what your friends are going to be wearing so you don’t look too overdressed.

EVENTS: bring a nice dress or trousers/shirt. There will be fancier events (sports balls, end of term balls, society balls). They don’t always require black tie, so a cocktail dress is a good choice. Boys, bring a suit jacket. It doesn’t have to be tails or a tux, but bringing a tailored blazer that’ll match or compliment a pair of trousers you own will come in handy. And absolutely NO JEANS. Along the same lines, bring at least one pair of smart shoes/heels. Ladies, flats are more than acceptable for fancy events. Just make sure they’re cute.

BUSINESSWEAR: “But Isabelle!” I hear you cry, “I’m in college! I don’t need businesswear!” Yes, my friend, yes you do. Interviews happen. You might need a part-time job, or get a spontaneous interview for an internship. Bring an office-appropriate skirt/trousers and a blouse/shirt, and some simple, smart shoes. You don’t have to go full-on Olivia Pope, but make sure you have one suitable outfit in your repertoire.

Q U I C K   T I P S

Accessories make an outfit: bring a choice of belts, scarves and miscellaneous wraps or shawls. By throwing on a buckled belt and a cute layered necklace, you can go from meh to a-meh-zing.

Sign up for student discounts: British students, that means unidays. Register with your university email for discounts ranging from 10-25%. They’ll notify you when retailers that don’t have a permanent discount (like H&M) run promotions as well. Make sure you use your discount for eating out and going to the cinema, too!

Quality > quantity: the capsule wardrobe trend is real, folks. I’m an advocate of having a smaller, but better-made and better-fitting, wardrobe over one that’s overflowing and filled with cheap, low-quality clothing that’ll last a couple of wears. If you’re wearing pieces day-in day-out, make sure they’re flattering and of good quality. Having a smaller wardrobe makes moving in and out easier, too, and you’ll spend less time staring at all your clothes trying to mentally piece together something cute.

Expensive =/= good quality: along the same lines, just because something is pricy doesn’t automatically make it of good quality. You can get really good basics at affordable shops. Feel the material (and make sure it’s relatively opaque), make sure the stitching is solid, and that it doesn’t have pulls or piling or holes. I like New Look and ASOS for simple pieces.

Make an effort: it sounds silly, but lecturers and tutors do appreciate it when you don’t turn up looking like you’ve just rolled out of bed. Looking presentable makes them feel like you want to be there, which can make them a) like you more and b) more inclined to want to help you out if you need it. It isn’t that hard to put a pair of jeans and a blouse on instead of throwing a pair of joggers on under the T-shirt with ramen stains on that you slept in the night before, is it?

That’s pretty much it. University is a place to explore your own personal style, and you’ll see a massive variety in how people dress. Express yourself, learn what you like on, and don’t feel under pressure to dress a certain way! Style is definitely a creative outlet, so if you want to - use it and enjoy yourself!!

Aftermath

Alright friends, it’s headcanon time again! This time going right for the feels.

This will go in the “Headcanon” category. If you want to take this idea and expand upon it, please do! Tag me so I can see what you create! And HERE are my other headcanons!

  • When all’s said and done, Zarkon is defeated and the universe is saved, the paladins would return home.
  • And there are questions. ESPECIALLY from the World Space Government (which I’m sure there must be?). We see in Episode 1 that humans haven’t discovered alien life yet, and they just brought back two sentient, very intelligent, human-like creatures with super advanced technology. Not to mention a successful human-galra hybrid (seemingly) without huge biological problems.
  • (And aliens have a concept of a mall? And what on Earth is ‘Quintessence’? It’s a castle and a ship?)
  • So there is a long period of time before Team Voltron is actually free to do what they want. And once they’re free, the questions start to come from within the group.
  • What’s going to happen with Coran and Allura? Where are they going to go? If anywhere? There’s no Altea to return to. Is Allura still considered the princess if she only rules over one person, who’s her caretaker? What if the universe needs Voltron again?
  • What about Keith’s relationship with the Blade of Marmora? Would he go back to be a part of them? Would he pursue his mother?
  • Now that the Holts are back, will they complete the Kerberos Mission? Would Shiro dare go back there, considering what a traumatic experience that was? Would Pidge join them?
  • Could Lance and Hunk go back to the Garrison to actually get pilot’s licenses? Even though they’re pro lion pilots? Where does being a paladin rank in the military?  What about their families? How would they explain any of this?
  • No one really wants to think about any of that. So in the meantime, the paladins decide they should show the Alteans Earth, both in terms of natural wonders and the culture of humans. They take turns deciding where to go and make a long road trip out of it.

You know, one of the worst parts about being an incredibly easily-inspired person is that you start to lose yourself in what you see. One second, you want to sit down and draw to your heart’s content, the next, you want to write a series of novels, and the next, you want to make discoveries that expand humankind’s knowledge of the universe and beyond. All because you see a post, a drawing, a slip of writing discussing any of these things. And you lose yourself within that. You lose your identity. You feel like you don’t even have one to begin with, like you’re a jumbled mess of things and not something of your own.

And then the cycle repeats, over and over and over. One minute you’re inspired, and the next, you’re wondering what you’re even here for. You’re terrified of making concrete decisions for your future because what if it isn’t you?

Proposal for the next Zelda game that will give everyone what they want: (pls steal my ideas nintendo they’ll make u a lot of money i promise i wont sue) Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf all grow up together as friends, right. All Ganondorf’s life he’s constantly told that he’ll be Hyrule’s downfall and is always working hard to prove the naysayers wrong along with Link and Zelda’s help. Just when you think Ganondorf is going to be the big bad like everyone says BAM Vaati appears to threaten the kingdom once again. Vaati recognizes all of them but has a specific beef with Ganondorf for using him in the past for his own plans yadda yadda. Maybe the G-man questions his own faith in himself at some point for added drama that maybe he really is a bad guy bc he does some questionable things, but Link and Zelda assure him that these things arent all black and white. They all team up together to defeat Vaati, Ganondorf dealing the finishing blow and everyone who spoke against him eats their words. Everyone in this life time lives happily ever after and we finally get a Ganondorf with depth that isnt just a one note villain. Hell for all I care he /can/ become a villain still and the tragedy of his and the other two’s destiny is insanely apparent since now they have to stop someone who used to be their friend. What I’m saying is Calamity Ganon was boring af.

But yeah that’s the game.

Personally, I do not want an Ahsoka Tano live-action cinematic film... I want an ANIMATED cinematic film

One of the reasons why is because I believe Ahsoka appearing in live-action cinema would be incredibly jarring for the main live-action Star Wars films, and it would be a real jarring shock for the live-action movie-verse to suddenly introduce this Togruta who had a deep connection to the man who became Darth Vader.

And on the other hand, I want to see a high-budgeted animated Star Wars film. And Ahsoka fits perfectly into the animated world. And Star Wars done in the animated medium is a cue for those who follow the non-movie expanded universe.

Okja Theory ????

[[ SPOILERS ]] I think that there’s going to be another Okja film (or one in the same universe, with reoccurring characters like the AFL) that is about the use of animals and animal produce in the clothing industry- because, near the end of the film, Nancy (Lucy Mirando’s twin sister who is also played by Tilda Swinton) looks ina shop window in New York City at a pair of leather shoes whilst discussing what she wants to do with her sisters company after the events unfolded. This is just mine, and my brother’s analysis- however I do think that due to the popularity and success of the show, doing some kind of sequel of Okja would be really good and expand on the film’s universe. Plus, I want to see what more the AFL get up to, and what happens to the rest of the Super Pigs.

Opinion time: YA for adults

Please forgive the length of this rant, but I’d really like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this topic. I see a lot of articles asking why so many adults are reading YA and what on earth is developmentally wrong with them. So… where are the fun books for adults then? (I’m not going into the whole “why are adults reading YA” mess here or asking what constitutes YA – I’m wondering why there aren’t more YA-type books featuring adults and marketed towards them).

I don’t particularly want to constantly read about teens, angst, and high school. Those are often the aspects of the books that I have to consciously work my way around in order to get to the story I want. But those of us who grew up reading YA and are now adults still want the adventure, escapism, creative worlds, and hope that those books inspire.

I have absolutely zero interest in reading about depressing careers, unhappy marriages, bratty children, cheating partners, failed dreams, and other “realistic” adult scenarios. I mean, not everyone who is single at 30 is upset about it. Possibility, adventure, and a sense of a malleable future do not come grinding to a halt at age 20 as we accept the reality that life sucks from there on out… and even if we are stuck in rather depressing lives, THAT IS WHY SO MANY OF US READ. To escape.

YA books have also become absolutely amazing at creating strong female characters, creative worlds, fast-paced plots, solid diversity, and stories that are just straight up fun to read. But “adult” fantasy books are super long-winded in their descriptions and don’t really write characters I can relate to. Plus, I don’t want to spend a week reading some heavy book I can barely lift. I want the pretty covers and shorter length of a YA book that I can finish in one sitting, but with older characters. Maybe that makes me immature, but I’m not going to stop watching Disney movies anytime soon either.

I really don’t think every adult reads YA because they want to “recapture their youth” or whatever… I think we just want a fast, fun read for a change. YA authors can create an entire strong world in like ¼ of the time it takes most “adult” books to describe a field outside the castle. Books targeted at teens are honestly some of the better stories I’ve found, so I’d love to see some of the YA elements expand into adult fiction.

I know YA books often need to focus on characters at a crossroads who are figuring out who they want to be versus who society wants them to be. Pretty sure this is a universal theme for all ages, though. The majority of adults I know could still use some plot arc where they evolve in both self-knowledge and awareness of the world. So why can’t we take the fast pace, strong characters, and concise plots that are so awesome in YA books and just add more mature characters?

Also: sexy times are not always necessary and are not the automatic recipe for “maturity.” The current “New Adult” books are probably my least favorite category in existence. I’d love to read about characters in their twenties, but I want an actual fun story and not just some excuse for a million sex scenes. And the characters… good grief. Like is it like some rule that when you reach your early 20s you lose all emotional stability and/or self-respect and are permanently scarred by your past? The New Adult books I’ve read have been disasters. Most of the guys are self-loathing abusive sociopaths (and some seriously disturbing behavior is romanticized). And most stories are still about dealing with a depressing, realistic life. So, no, the New Adult attempt to address my age range is not the answer I’m looking for.

I’m also tired of hearing that adults can’t be in these awesome YA-type plots because they’re tied down by responsibilities with kids or careers. I’m sorry, have you not seen Spy Kids?! Take the whole family on your adventure! Don’t tell me this isn’t realistic because guess what — neither are dragons, time travel, aliens, sparkly vampires, teen boys who look like they’re 25, or the idea that every other girl is a missing princess. But it’s still fun.

Adult fantasy novels take themselves way too seriously for me. I just want to see a YA-type plot for all ages. I would totally read about a middle-aged lawyer who gets swept into some epic paranormal adventure with a case and takes their whole family with them. Suspend reality, stop treating the child like a burden, and turn them into a little secret agent. Or give me a story about a bunch of genius hacker mothers in a dystopian world (because it’s possible someone besides a group of attractive teens could save the world). Why can’t the stereotypical lost princess in a fantasy world be in her late twenties? If she’s married, she can take her husband with her on the quest (because plots can continue after people get together and function without the angst of a love triangle). Harry Potter was so much fun because adult characters played a huge part too and didn’t spend the entire plot “out of town” or whatever.

I’m aware I’m coming up with really poor examples here but that is why I’m not an author. I’m just a reader who’s tired of trying to shift my expectations to cram myself into the wrong target audience. I’m not an English major who’s debated this topic a million times, nor someone who honestly knows much about publishing. I’ve just read over 500 YA books and would really like to read something fast-paced, creative, and fun with characters my age for a change. YA books are awesome and I’m thrilled that adult fiction exists for those who love it, but there’s this this big hole here for a new category of books I want to read.

So many aspiring adult authors have contacted me on Goodreads or Tumblr to say they’re confused about what to call their book if it has a 27 year old bisexual Indian princess assassin in a 400-page book that doesn’t spend forever on worldbuilding. It’s not the YA age range or the typical adult material, so they get rejected by publishers… but those are the exact books so many of us want to read!

I mean, there’s a reason A Court of Mist and Fury kind of took over the world. Sarah J Maas gets what teens and 20-somethings want to read. All of her books have incredibly creative and complex worlds with mature characters & strong heroines who face serious, realistic issues in a context that’s still adventurous and fun. I can’t even count how many messages I get each week asking for book recommendations that are similar to her series. And I’ve got nothing.

I might rephrase this rant to be somewhat more coherent as time goes by, but for now I’m just curious to see what others think!

Wonder Woman Review

Alright I just got home from seeing Wonder Woman, a movie that I’ve been anticipating for most of my life. Before I go into my detailed thoughts on the film, I want to preface them by saying this.

I have been a die hard DC fan for most of my life, and have been looking forward to a DC Cinematic universe for most of that time. In the last few years we’ve seen the DCEU expand the world of the DC characters with films that, in my honest opinion, have been some of my favorite films of all time. Needless to say, I have been hyped for this movie for a very long time.

With all of that being said, I LOVED WONDER WOMAN. God this movie was so good. Gal Gadot did an amazing job as Diana. There wasn’t any minute of this movie where I felt bored. It was such an emotional film, and the performances all around were terrific. From Connie Nielson to Chris Pine, I loved the entire cast. Idk if right now I can say that Wonder Woman is my favorite DCEU movie but it’s now one of my favorite movies of all time. It sends such a hopeful message to the audience, and it seriously made me tear up.

I can’t complete this review without giving credit to Patty Jenkins, she did such an amazing job with this movie. I’m so happy this movie and Patty are getting so much love, and it’s well deserved. Thank you Patty Jenkins, thank you DC, thank you Zack Snyder for finally giving us the Wonder Woman movie we deserve.

I’ll be recording a full review tomorrow morning so I can go into more detail about the things I enjoyed but until then here you guys go! I hope you all enjoy the movie as much as I did!

  • Lo que dice: "Estoy bien"
  • What she means: "Jorge R. Gutierrez has such an expansive vision of mythology based off of Mexican folklore in his Book of Life universe that canonically takes place in the same universe as El Tigre and a lot of it is lesser known such as Sartana canonically being the daughter of Xibalba and La Muerte and I want to see more of this and want him to keep making movies and tv shows to expand this universe. Nickelodeon was a fool to prematurely cancel El Tigre. Manny Rivera is canonically a descendant of Manolo and María while Frida is a descendant of Joaquin. Gutierrez needs to be funded for doing God's work.

Reunited Friends AU part 6!!~
The boys ask their friends for guidance. Some is helpful, some is… really not. This was really fun to draw in all honesty XD I don’t get to draw Francis/Kiku often so I hope they’re okay. You want to see more of their respective friends? let me know! >w< I’d love to expand the universe a bit XDDDD
(BTW just so people know, commissions are open - some examples)

[part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] [part 5] [part 6] [Part 7] [Part 8] [Part 9] [Part 10] [Part 11]

This is how you do it.

Okay so you are probably online searching, buying books reading, in chat groups to find out how to make your life better. THEY DON’T TELL YOU. Just like the secret says it is kept as a secret. But it’s so simple you still don’t know how to do it. Here it goes. I’ll tell you.

Relax. Get comfortable. Do the simplest meditation. By that I mean lay in bed or sit up in bed, close your eyes and breathe until you let go of all the realities of your life. Relax. Relax. Relax. Okay. Now you are a physical person moving around in a body- that’s what you think. You are actually a spirit that is connected to everything in the universe. And being a spirit you can CREATE ANYTHING YOU WANT.

Okay, hopefully you are following me. Next. Now that you are comfortable with no distractions. Eyes closed relaxing. VISUALIZE yourself in the life you want. Start off easy. See the people in your life treating you the way you want. See the body you want. See the greatest life right now in your visualization. Just sit in it and be happy about it. Trust me when you visualize your lover saying you are beautiful it will have a strong pull at your heart and a vibe will expand through the universe like a pebble dropped into a lake.

This process has drastically changed my life. I am so so so blessed right now I feel so good. I sleep well. This is a new year and 2017 in numerology is a 1 so it is as if everything gets pushed away and a new world is springing up before you.

All of the messages are good. Be happy. Stay joyful. You are special. But you can’t move forward unless you feel it within yourself.

Many many blessings. If you want to live like a king, you must think like a king.

From growing up DC as always played a huge role in my life. I was brought up with watching the classic DC shows like Batman and Wonder Woman and being introduced to Michael Keaton’s Batman and Christopher Reeves’s Superman. DC as always been my favourite side of Superhero life (i do love Marvel but not as much as this one).

Now knowing we have a DCEU happening my childhood is re-living itself. My favourite heroes all appearing on the big screen before my very eyes. I feel just like my four year old self watching Superman with my dad. The DCEU is what i have always wanted. The DCEU is what we fans deserve. I thank Zack Snyder for allowing this to happen. My childhood thanks him for allowing this to happen.

When something gives you these type of feelings you know they are doing something right. I can’t wait to see the DCEU further expand with the Justice League at the end of year. I know i will cry because this is the one thing i have always wanted. To see my favourite animated classic show in a live action movie. Omfg.

The DCEU is important to me and i will defend it.

(((News: Heya guys, I have some things coming up (I hope) that will expand the Shina universe a little. Specifically, I’ll be introducing Shina’s teammates (finally). Shina has other teammates from other Shina artists and in each contained universe, they are still his teammates. I don’t see them as conflicting (since their worlds slightly differ from mine)

I want to rush through and finish the ‘Goodbye’ comic, I’m just running into the problem of going back and fixing things over and over again. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) That sends you in an endless torment of evil and procrastination.

Now, all of that said, this is 13 year old Arashi! I’ve always wanted to write or draw more about him, but it’s not easy coming up with a place for him in vArashi between his older siblings Hanami and Shinachiku. I’ve been doing some pondering the last few weeks and am contemplating writing a drabble for him that will explain his experience with the new shinobi system and to flesh out who he is for everyone.

I’m bad at clothes. I cropped this image cause the pose was dumb)))

anonymous asked:

What are you plans after you finish writing UMFB&MHA?

As soon as I finish umfb I will move onto writing the Viktor pov companion fic which will be another very long fic and will take me a while. After that I’m tossing around the idea of writing a ‘Missing Scenes’ style fic set in the same universe to write the bits that just don’t fit into the main fic if there’s enough reader interest. There are some pov I want to explore like Chris and Phichit, some scenes that had to be cut because they didn’t work with the main fic that I want to have a go at writing, some parts of Viktor and Yuuri’s lives that I want to explore (some specific sex scenes that i want to write…;) ), lot’s of stuff like that. Plus I’d listen to reader requests about what they want to see/know to expand the universe. After that I’m not sure. But you wont be getting rid of me for a while yet!

What the hell

Literally every Bethesda IP is getting comic book tie-ins… except for DOOM!

I want a comic series that expands upon the universe of DOOM 2016 so bad! I want to learn about Olivia’s Descent into madness or read about the accounts of regular humans trying to survive the demonic invasion. It would be interesting to see the perspective of someone who isn’t a living god of murder. Or how about from the perspective of the demons as Doomguy is tearing Hell a new asshole and they come up with the plan to drop a fucking temple on his ass.

Maybe they’re waiting for the sequel.

Stop Shutting Down Conversations

I’ve been seeing a lot of shutting down of headcanon/worldbuilding conversations recently in the fantroll community, both on Tumblr and in other fandom spaces, and it’s making me a little bit sad because I don’t think that that’s the intention of the posts and messages that have been circulating around, but it’s been the effect!

A large part of the fun of fandom for me, particularly a fandom with so much source material but so little worldbuilding for the part of the sandbox that I’m playing in such as Alternia, is the opportunity for taking that source material and extrapolating cool worldbuilding and headcanons from it! The Condesce has a helmsman? Well, what’s the social effect of the majority of a whole caste of society being consigned to serving as autonomy-less batteries for their adult lives? Kanaya uses a chainsaw to both fight undead and garden? Well, what if that means she’s actually fighting plant zombies? Etc.

The thing is, though, that this always inevitably ends up with people that have clashing headcanons. Lately, for example, we’ve had people chatting about their perspectives on troll anatomy - Mammalian? Insectoid? Something else? People can’t quite agree!

But that’s okay. The discussion of who had what headcanons, why they hold those, so long as people aren’t using to shut down other people’s headcanons, are part of the fun. I think a lot of people are seeing disagreement and interpreting it as conflict when really it’s a fun debate, and the result is that we end up with people putting effort towards shutting down the conversation altogether.

The biggest example of this is that I’ve seen a lot of people saying that because Homestuck and Hussie’s worldbuilding are so “nonsensical,” there’s no rules for Alternian worldbuilding. The irony of that, though, is that these messages are setting a rule: “No rules allowed.” People make rules for their own universes because that’s the fun of writing in a fandom. Without rules, you might as well make your own original characters outside of the Homestuck context - and some people do! The issue is that it’s not fair to people who value worldbuilding and the discussion surrounding it for people to see those discussions and tell them that they’re wrong for wanting to expand on their universe because “Homestuck doesn’t make sense anyways.”

And it’s understandable that some people might want to have no rules for their own universes! In fact, I’m pretty sure that the goal of these messages is just to make sure people feel comfortable not having elaborate headcanons. But both in chats and on Tumblr, I’ve seen people push for this reasoning as why everyone else shouldn’t be making headcanons based on canon material, either, and I think that’s just plain anti-fun. It’s unkind to shut down somebody else’s fun conversation just because you personally don’t feel like you would like to participate in it, and I think we as a community need to pay more attention to when we’re doing that.

tl;dr: Don’t let your personal RP preferences be a reason for you to shut down conversations other people are having for fun.
