Hi, I'm new to witchcraft. Where do I begin?
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen an ask like this pop into my inbox and it’s gotten to the point where I’m not going to bother answering them anymore because I say the same damn things over and over.
I CANNOT TELL YOU WHERE TO BEGIN.
THAT IS COMPLETELY UP TO YOU.
FOLLOW YOUR INTERESTS AND BE PREPARED TO RESEARCH YOUR ASS OFF. PRACTICING WITCHCRAFT IS A LOT OF HARD WORK SO BE PREPARED TO PUT IN THE TIME.
LEARN TO DISCERN RELIABLE SOURCES OF INFORMATION FROM UNRELIABLE SOURCES.
TAKE ALL OCCULT INFORMATION YOU FIND WITH A PINCH OF SALT. JUST BECAUSE A SOURCE OF INFO ISN’T EVEN RELIABLY WITCHY DOESN’T MEAN IT CANT HELP YOU.
IF YOU FIND A SPELL YOU WANT TO TRY - RESEARCH THE COMPONENTS AND ASK YOURSELF “Why is ______ in this spell?” AND “Why is the spell structured like this?”
THEN TRY THE SPELL OR ADJUST IT TO SUIT YOUR PURPOSE.
IF IT WORKS - GREAT. IF IT DOESN’T - TRY AND FIND OUT WHY IT DIDN’T WORK.
WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!!!
AND THEN EVERY FEW MONTHS GO OVER WHAT YOU WROTE AND MAKE REVISIONS/NOTES/CHANGES.
CONGRATS ~ YOU’RE A WITCH.
Reminder: Becoming ‘GOOD’ at witchcraft doesn’t happen over night. For some it takes months and for some it takes years. Being a witch (in my opinion) is the work of a lifetime - you keep learning new things and evolving your practice.I also have my witchling and witchlings tags (witchling is a term used to refer to young or new witches) which are both full of resources for new witches: http://stormbornwitch.tumblr.com/tagged/witchling
