Don’t Want to Be Without You (Jake/MC)
Don’t Want to Be Without You
Disclaimer- Not mine. I’m just borrowing them for a little while and will return them when I am finished.
Author’s Notes- This is the response to the prompt “quick goodbye kiss” (description below). This is a Jake/MC fic and is set sometime in Book 3, after everyone has reunited but before they manage to defeat Rourke.
Summary- After being reunited, Stephanie hates the idea of being away from Jake for even a little while.
The type of goodbye kiss when you keep leaving quick pecks on each other’s lips, but end up pulling each other back for more, which could go on for hours if one of you don’t finally pull away.
The group needs to split up, Stephanie knows that. They’ve gone over the plan so often that she can recite it from memory. She also knows why she needs to go with one group and Jake with the other and she doesn’t disagree. Jake has skills that the Endless’s group needs and Stephanie needs to be in a separate group than her older self.
She understands this rationally, but when the time comes to put the plan into action, Stephanie finds herself hesitating. She just got Jake back and learnt that she’d lost him 2139 times in the past, and the idea of being away from him even for a few hours… Well, it fills her with fear.
“It’ll be ok, Princess,” Jake assures her, brushing his lips against her, “ain’t nothin’ gonna stop me from coming back to you.”
“I know,” Stephanie says, looping her arms around his neck. She remembers what Sean and Estela told her, about how determined he was to find her after she fell out of the plane. How he refused to give up hope. She presses her lips against his again. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Jake tells her, kissing her forehead and her cheeks before their lips meet again.
“We need to go Princess,” he reminds her, but his hand is still on her back.
“I know,” Stephanie sighs, but it doesn’t stop her from pressing her lips to his again.
“The sooner you guys stop kissing, the sooner we can put this plan into motion and then you can do whatever the Hell you want,” Zahra says from behind Jake, her voice dripping with irritation. Stephanie sighs, knowing she is right.
“OK,” she says even as she leans forward to kiss Jake one last time. His hands tighten on her wait for a moment as he briefly deepens the kiss and then he lets her go.
“Go kick ass, Princess.” He says with a grin.
“You too, Top Gun,” Stephanie says though she is still filled with fear.
She feels someone squeeze her hand and looks up, expecting to see Jake back for one more kiss, but it’s the Endless.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him.” Her older-self promises, her blue eyes sympathetic.
Stephanie still isn’t sure how she feels about this older version of her, but there’s something sincere about his gesture. Besides, she’s not the only one who loves Jake.
“Thank you,” she says sincerely and then goes to follow her group. Because Zahra’s right, the sooner they get this done, the sooner she can be back where she belongs: in Jake’s arms.
