Hi. I wanted to ask you if you ever done a tutorial of how you color your arts, it look so realistic, I need some tips

this could be a really long answer, because it’s a super loaded question! it depends on what specifically you’re having trouble with. i just did a speed paint of a little comic piece i did recently:

but with something like this:

you’ll see it’s a layering process. the canvas is also huge! so to start:

  • i lay in flat base colors that are in the general wheelhouse of what i want to build on top of. everything has a trillion values, but normally there’s one that acts as a baseline for all of them. this includes big shadow values as well. i consider them to be their own beast.
  • i do the most detailed/technically difficult parts first, generally starting with the face. the secret here is, i bounce around with a thousand different colors with a brush with opacity control turned on:

i use solid blocking of color VERY conservatively, so when it is in place, it actually stands out. 

while not classically trained, i’m like 95% sure my style falls under impressionism. so even though it’s not blended, the colors give an optical illusion from afar that it’s realistic. i also don’t use black!

it’s hard to give tips on something that more or less came to me organically as i started doing more and more of what i wanted. i simply discovered i hated the way i did smooth blending, so i tried a different method instead. experimentation can sometimes be the best thing you can do! i’ve also been on youtube studying a lot of other artist’s work, which has been a huge help to me personally in the past year


I made this for a 3 day music festival called Rising Sun Rock Festival held every summer near my hometown in Hokkaido. There’s a lot to be improved but I think it turned out great considering I only had 3 days to work on and I’d never done an installation this big!

I’ve always wanted to make a trippy ass thread sculpture for a festival so yaaaay! Hope people enjoyed this!


There are three basic types of techniques: ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu

AHBL8 Part 11 – Sunday – J2 Ultimate Chat

​So they oversold the ultimate tickets, right. Rumor is they oversold it by more than double, which sounds about right because now we have four separate ultimate chat sessions, each with about 25 attendees when originally they advertised two sessions (one each day) with only 20 people each.

To be honest, in terms of “intimacy” 20 and 25 doesn’t seem like much of a difference. My issue would be if they cut down the amount of time allocated for each session because they needed to have twice as many. They already pushed the second Saturday session into Sunday, so they had one session on Saturday and three sessions on Sunday.  On each day, the sessions cut into panel times so people missed out on some panels.

I also heard a rumor that J2 were pretty fed up with the situation. But i heard this from someone who heard it from someone who had a friend in the first Saturday session so take the accuracy of that statement how you will. What i do believe is that J2 requested that Saturday’s second session be pushed back. I’m not gonna pretend to know how they feel about it.

So the situation with ultimate chat is it’s basically a 20 minute micropanel where we sit in three rows of chairs, first come first serve, while J2 sit in front of us and we ask them questions. It felt kind of like a press conference. To be honest, i didn’t find it particularly special unless you were really keen to ask them a question because obviously the chances to ask is a lot higher in a group of 25 people than in a larger group in the day panel or even the VIP panel. But for J2, I’m not particularly interested in their personal lives to ask them about it, and i can’t really bring myself to discuss about the show without being heavily critical about it. So to just watch, it wasnt really anything special, especially since my seats in the auditorium were so bloody close anyway, it didn’t really feel like anything new.  I mean, of course it was still an amazing experience to just be in the same room as them, and I really appreciated the extra time I got to spend around them.  

One thing i noted was the wall behind where J2’s heads had this weird pattern on it and staring in that direction was really messing with me visually. Like it was a kind of freaky optical illusion and it hurt my eyes if i stared at them too long. Which sucks because i kind of didn’t want to stop looking at Jensen’s face. He’s a fuckin work of art man.

Someone asked what lessons have the guys learned from working on the show that affected them personally. Jared went into a long story that involved his anxiety and how he grew into adulthood.  Like how when he started the show he was a big list-maker and he would be really driven about doing and finishing tasks, like he’s going to do this and this and this and then he’ll have a break. But like as he grows and matures, he’s come into terms with the fact that the list will never end and he learnt to just take things as they come and be a bit more easygoing about it. Jensen added about how in the beginning of going on the convention circuit, he was a bit more reserved about being personal and opening up to strangers.  But after feeling all the love and support, he’s become more open to people.  He also mentioned that their fans are more “high quality” in that Supernatural may not be the most successful or highest rated show out there, but the people who do love it are the kinds of people he would want to have as fans, people who are really passionate and supportive.

Another person asked the guys to send our love to their wives and expressed their wish that Gen and Danneel would come along to conventions as well because we’d be just as excited to meet them.  The guys said that they were just talking to them on the phone right before our chat session, and the girls send their love as well, and that right at that moment Gen and Danneel were together, relaxing with some wine. Jared and Jensen assured us that Gen and Danneel love us, the fans, just as much, and that if there was even the slightest discomfort or reluctance on their part about Jared and Jensen travelling all over, spending time away from their family with a bunch of young women, the guys would stop coming to conventions.  Jensen was like, “ just to be clear, they’re ALLOWING us to be here.” And in response, we all spoke up to express our thanks and how much we appreciate that.  

There were more questions asked, but I don’t really remember them, these are just the ones that stood out to me.

Looking back, Caroline blamed her unexpected discovery on boredom that summer. The temperature had hit a stifling 103 degrees mainly due to low cloud cover containing the heat and the girls piled into the car headed for the cool sanctuary of the movie theatre to catch the latest Nicholas Sparks adaption. 

Well, that’s what Bonnie and Caroline wanted to see. Katherine on the other hand preferred a lot less mush, as she liked to put it, and a lot more violence. Knowing her dogged determination, Caroline knew this was going to be a difficult argument to win.

They’d been best friends since they were six. Class bully Jimmy Johnson had been teasing Bonnie mercilessly and one day went too far, earning himself a smack from both Caroline and Katherine. The girls still maintained that their ‘time out’ punishment was more than worth it to see him return to school with two very attractive, black eyes. After that he’d never messed with Bonnie again.

Now here they were about to embark on their Senior Year of High School. All Caroline had ever wanted was to leave Mystic Falls but even now she was beginning to feel nostalgic for the only place she’d ever called home. Not to mention her best friends. They’d chosen not to discuss their plans for the following year, too scared to contemplate separating.

“Um, last time I checked the cinema is in that direction, Katherine,” Bonnie gestured behind them.

“Who needs GPS when I have Bonnie Bennett barking directions at me from the backseat.”

“Well, she does have a point, Kat,” Caroline chimed into the conversation. “Surely the prospect of Nicholas Sparks isn’t bad enough to make you drive in the complete opposite direction.”

“Ah yeah he is, that Notebook movie you guys made me watch has scarred me for life.”

“It’s okay, we promised not to tell anyone you cried,” Bonnie mused.

“There was something in my eye, I told you that,” she shot back. “Anyway, I just thought we could do something a little different today. You know given it will be our last high school summer and all.” The dread lingered between them for a while, each girl feeling the overwhelming sadness that came with that very fact.

“I’m almost afraid to ask,” Bonnie murmured, finally breaking the silence.

“You’ll love it, trust me.”

“The last time she said that I ended up dancing on the bar at the Mystic Grill in a tequila fuelled haze,” Caroline recalled.

“And look how much fun you had. Well, you know after the hangover subsided.”

“And the subsequent grounding from the Sheriff. Katherine, she was this close to pressing charges against her own daughter for public drunkenness.”

“Yeah those were good times,” Caroline drawled, raising her eyebrows. “Please tell me this little surprise doesn’t involve illegal activity of any kind?”

“You two really are boring,” she muttered, checking out her appearance in the rearview mirror. “But no this isn’t illegal, well not that I know of anyway. If I’m being honest, I’m not completely across the laws in Maryland.” The girls were rendered speechless just as the ‘Thank you for visiting Mystic Falls’ sign rushed past their windows.

The mathemagician’s room - by, now it comes, meeeee :P

It’s a place full of wonder, strangeness and bizarre beauty: the room - or should I say space - of a “mathemagician”…

Here are the instructions for it to work:

1. The picture originally is in black and white. When it appears in negative, stare at the spot on Freddie’s forehead.

2. Stare at this point without moving your eyes at any moment, until the picture appears in black and white once again.

3. Keep staring at the spot when it’s in black and white. TADAM! If you followed the instructions, you’ll see the picture in colour!

Photo Booth Challenge

The Photo Booth Challenge by Dan and Phil is the most funniest video I have ever seen. The two bros are just chilling in front of the photo booth and making silly faces. I mean there are many youtubers doing the challenge too but so far the bromance between them just makes it more funnier. I would recommend it to other people if they want to know British culture. 

P.S. optical illusion of Dan’s penis popping out to Phil saying, “I don’t want this to make things awkward between us, okay?” is my favourite scene in the video. ;)

Well I was thinking if it was possible, provided that the texture is detailed enough and with the help of some optical illusion, to make a character completely comprised of strategically placed textures? I don't really have anything to go by because as far as I know it hasn't been done so I'm sorry if this sound a bit whimsical.

Hmm… well, I’d say technically no. Because no matter how detailed the textures you make are, you still need some sort of underlying geometry to project it on to. A 3D application can’t do anything with a 2D image by itself. Even if you just wanted to import a flat drawing, you’d still need to project it on to a single rectangle polygon. 

I’ve actually done something like this before, in this illustration, the background is a 3D model, but all the characters are just drawings. However, there is still a little bit of geometry, in this case a square, that each drawing is attached to so they can interact in 3D space.

I just love how Sorey loves the idea of harmonious coexistence so much that even before he chooses to accept or refuse the proposals offered to him, he‘s always so open about his feelings towards that dream of his. Like it’d be easy to take advantage of that but it’s also pretty obvious that Sorey clearly knows what he wants out of it so it’s really not that easy to control him, ya get what I mean? He may be naive at times but that doesn’t mean he’s automatically corruptible.

Plus, it’s adorable that regardless of all that, he’d do anything he can in his own power, however many steps small or large, to make that dream a reality. <3

Also, what is up with this optical illusion going on here? I thought Mik was actually sitting against Sorey’s shoulder and got all squealy inside but then the next shot is like “hah, fooled ya!”

But it’s ok. Mikleo sitting close to Sorey whenever and wherever while slightly monitoring him will never not warm up that deepest parts of my soul. x3

“Happy Derek Day!” Stiles yells.

Derek opens one eye, and then the other, sighing. Why can Stiles never just stay in bed and spoon him like a normal person? Why does there always have to be things? “Happy – what?”

“Derek Day!” Stiles says again, grinning, waving a giant box in front him like the five year old he is. Twenty three, Derek’s ass.

Blinking again, Derek stares at the box, noticing it for the first time. It’s big, for one; wrapped in soft pink tissue paper with little kittens chasing blue balls of yarn on it. It’s…cute. Derek isn’t sure whether to be wary or excited about it.

“I don’t know what that means,” he eventually says, trying and failing to look away from the box.

He kind of wants to touch it, but he’s afraid what might happen if he does. The last time he opened a pink box, Laura jumped out of it wearing a vampire mask, scaring the hell out of him. He was six. It took several cupcakes and cuddles from his mom just to calm him down. Derek knows he isn’t six anymore, but that shit stays with you and he’s pretty sure there aren’t any cupcakes on standby if something bad does happen.

“It means, dumbass,” Stiles says, jumping onto the bed, “this day is all about you!”

Derek frowns, sitting up a little. “Why?”

Stiles splutters, looking offended. “Why? Do I need a reason to shower my boyfriend with love and adoring affection?”

Derek squints. He may not pride himself in his ability to read people. Gods know no one should pride Derek on that, he thinks sadly, but he knows Stiles. He knows. “Just tell me what you did wrong, Stiles.”

Stiles narrows his eyes but the outrage on his face falters a second later, a flicker of guilt replacing it. Derek wants to smirk, feeling smug, but –

“Ugh, fine. I may have accidentally washed my red hoodie with your white workout vests, okay? But in my defence, pink looks great on you.”

Pink looks-

“How is that a defence?”

Stiles sighs, long and suffering and dramatic. “It just is, Derek. Look, I’d give you a blow job to say sorry. After all, my morning blow jobs are the best blow jobs. You can’t argue. Your words, not mine, but I think you’re going to like this even better.” He waves the box again, like it’s an optical illusion and Stiles is the world’s most excitable magician.

As Derek said, five.

“Should I be worried?” Derek asks, sitting up fully, taking the box from him.

“Derek-” Stiles starts, only to lean in and kiss him softly on the mouth instead of finishing.

It catches Derek off guard and he blushes, looking down, only to have his chin tilted back up by two, gentle fingers.

“It’s nothing bad. I wouldn’t do that to you,” Stiles whispers, kissing him again. “I promise, Der.”

“I know. Sorry, I-”

“Don’t be. I get it. This – you and me – we’re a learning curve.”

Derek swallows. “I guess.”

“Yeah, well, I know.” Stiles rolls his eyes. “Let that be enough.”

It’s a question – nervous – not the statement Derek knows Stiles wants it to be and Derek nods, because it is enough. Stiles is enough and perfect at the same time, and it scares him as much as it comforts him most days.

Learning curve. Right.

Rolling his eyes in return, although mostly for show, Derek carefully begins to open the box.

Presenting the next group of Ink combos starting with Inkfell or Streak as the stream has dubbed him. He is a graffiti artist who loves covering all the walls with his pictures. Is supper proud of his work and hates seeing it covered up.

The next one is the Outerink combo named Van. He is named Van after Vincent Van Gogh who did the Starry night painting. He is outgoing and used chalk and Pastels to do his work. He likes making optical illusions on the floors and walls to fool his friends.

Lastly we have Glaze who is a combo of ink and Gaster Sans. He makes sculptures and clay works of silly or ridiculous things. Mostly cause hes lazy and does not want to put the effort into better works.
