A/N: Fair warning: this is shit, also what is punctuation?
“It’ll be okay” Your best friend shushed you over the phone. “Say the word and I’ll be over there with a tub of chunky monkey, scissors, a lighter and all the chick flicks I can manage to fit in my arms” she stated the very recipe you two have had for break-ups since high school, “we’ll cut out the bastards face and drown the memories with calories” you chuckled, sniffling up your runny nose and thanking the universe for the best friend a person can ask for. “But it’s raining…” you looked over your shoulder to the greying gloom spreading across the sky from your balcony window, the rain getting louder as it hit the windows.
“Okay…” she paused, “we’ll have to light the stuff he left in the kitchen but it’s okay I’ll bring a fire extinguisher” you laughed again unable to believe she can make you laugh in a situation that makes you want to crawl up and cry.
“I mean you’ll get sick” “like I care, I’m not leaving you alone upset” she scoffed
“you’re amazing” “I kno—what’s that sound?” she asked as a loud banging came from your balcony.
“What the fuck?” you stood from the spot on the floor you’d been sulking and slowly walked over to the glass. “What is it?” she sounded concerned in your ear as you attempted to look down “oh my god” you closed your eyes, “its Shawn” they flicked open and you felt tears at the brim. Even the words of comfort and confidence being poured into your ear wasn’t enough to help you from crying right now and it didn’t help that small pebbles were still flying at your window. “I’ve got to go” you sniffled “I’m coming around” “let me deal with him first, I’ll call you back” you nodded and hung up.
You waited until another pebble was thrown so it’d be safe to walk out and looked down. “What the fuck are you doing?” you yelled down at the boy soaked by the rain, his hand full of white pebbles from your garden. “I need to talk to you” “why didn’t you call?” “You wouldn’t have answered” he yelled a little quieter, his posture changing as he shied back. “Go away Shawn” you turned and went to go back inside “Please I just… 5 minutes please!” he yelled trying to get you to turn back.
You ran downstairs and out the door into the rain, “what Shawn? What could you possibly want three hours after telling me I’m not good enough for you?” you waved your arms about. “I never said that” he stepped closer, dropping the pebbles by his side and grabbing on to your arms “never would I ever say that, it’s the other way around” you scoffed at him, yanking your arms back from his hold. “What do you want?” you looked away from him, instead watching the rain land on the grass, the blades bouncing as it met with the watery drops. “I broke up with you because I’m about to tour again” his voice competed with the thunder that now accompanied the rain. “If you wanted to be with other peo—“he grunted interrupting you, “how can you possibly not get this? I don’t want to leave you here. Every goodbye at the airport, every late night call, every text where you’re telling me you’re okay with waiting when I know damn well it breaks my heart as much as it breaks mine” his voice broke as he tried to hold back tears, pinching at the bridge of his nose to hold them back. You began to laugh and turned to walk back inside “you know what I was okay with?” you turned back to face him, “having you live your dream and only hearing your voice two times a day, three if I was lucky. I was so okay with being left behind because getting to see you again after being apart for so long was worth all the shit we’d put up with” you shrugged “I guess I just thought we were worth more”.
“What is your problem?” he yelled as you turned back, “why are you trying so hard to avoid me when I’m trying to explain-“ “Because you broke my heart you fuck!” you breathed in deep, your warm breath being visible in the cold weather as you lowered your chest. You felt tears fall down your cheeks and hope he’d take it for the rain but he didn’t, he pulled you into him and wrapped his arms around you. “I want you” he mumbled “I want you like crazy, there is nothing I want more than to fix this and find a way to make it easier while I’m on tour but you coming out every couple of months isn’t working” he kissed the top of your head, not at all loosening his grip on you. “I don’t understand how you can just give up and want to let something this good go because we can’t work past something” you pushed back from his arms refusing to let him feel better about this “you’re just giving up” you wiped at your eyes “well what do you want to do?” he got angry, tears now streaming down his face to as you argued back and forth “because my heart is breaking knowing I’m hurting you and I’m scared as hell to want you, but here I am, wanting you anyway” you furrowed your eyebrows “you broke us up!” “I’m here to fix it” he stepped closer “I want to figure something out” he swallowed “it’s been three hours knowing since we broke up and I’m a mess” he pulled on your arms and put his forehead on his “it’s not worth it if it means losing you and honestly I don’t know what I’d do if I had to fight the urge to start running to your house as soon as I stepped off the plane anymore” you pulled him in the door so you were both out of the rain and your voices has softened to not battle the rain anymore.
“Can we fix this?” he ran his thumbs over your arms, you nodded and slowly felt your lips meet his “we can try”.
Are small stories of your characters meeting others also acceptable? Again, if yes, is it fine to send them through submissions? And do you have any tips to get their personalities right? I would hate to mess them up.
