i understand whats happening in the world mostly because of tumblr

Why I Think Momo is Kickass and You should too

So with the emergence of the anime becoming more and more popular, of course the fan base is growing and growing, I would even say to heights like seen in Fairy Tail, Naruto, etc.

However, with the series getting more popular, you are stuck with more….negative opinions about the characters that in my mind are sometimes just not necessary.

Now, this blog is normally Ochako and Kacchako and I intend to mostly keep it that way but lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of negative posts towards Momo and frankly, I’m heavily displeased by this, especially since she’s one of the most well portrayed girls in the series and it’s really heartbreaking on my end to see posts that essentially dismiss her for more shallow reasons that don’t need to be here.

I mean to start this off, are we going to simply forget that she came into UA on a recommendation and was a student that made even All Might shook when asked why Iida was the winner of the exercise

or how, even though the class didn’t know her, she was still voted to be Assistant Class President?

or how she was able to act calm and rational during the USJ villain fight?

or how she still managed to get the top grade in the midterm exams and didn’t get it to her head but actually acted BENEVOTELY and helped her classmates who asked her for help?

or how it was HER plan that got Todoroki and her to win the exam that they were fighting in?

But ya know, because of her BODY, we’re going to ignore that right? We’re going to ignore how amazing and how smart she is simply because of her body.

I won’t lie guys, I’ve heard people complaining about her quirk and even saying how bad her quirk is designed when it’s like??? It actually makes a lot of sense why it’s like that since she does create large objects like shields, spears, A FREAKING CANON, like it makes sense for her to need to use fat call throughout her body to be able to achieve that look.

Which brings me to talk about her costume. Oh boy, this is the one that when I first entered the fandom, no one really said anything but now that the series is more popular, everyone has become experts on body proportions and quirk designs and apparently fashion design since her costume isn’t good enough for her.

I mean look at the costume design that Horikoshi put in for her and how he planned that all out for her

At some point, yes I understand, Horikoshi is a pervert, sometimes his intentions aren’t the best, I get that. But consider this, even though he had the ability to make Ochako’s and Tsuyu’s costumes completely perverted, he chose against that. He had the perfect opportunity to indulge in that yet he didn’t. What I love about Horikoshi is that he thinks about the practicality of the quirks and designs the costumes based on that as well taking into consideration the character’s personality and what they would want.

So guys, at some point, reality check moment: Momo is comfortable with her body enough to wear a costume that she deemed necessary for the usage of her quirk. And she chose that design for that outfit and has not said a word about this entire series. She even had an opportunity to create it to be more closed and she chose not to. MOMO CHOSE HER OUTFIT AND VIEWS IT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HER HERO WORK.

In this moment too, I would like to share what even Midnight said during Episode 34 at the very beginning.

So another reality check: The only people who are saying it’s sexual are the people who are sexualizing her to begin with. Instead of viewing it as more of a practical thing that is designed for her quirk (which involves utilizing her fat cells and creating stuff through her skin), people begin to view as sexual and are condemning her for having a revealing costume. Which, to me personally, I find ironic since tumblr is filled with campaigns of free the nipple and the stopping of sexualization of breasts and female anatomy, yet look what’s happening here. People are taking her costume and saying she’s being sexualized for choosing a design that would give her optimal openness to use her quirk.

I mean look at how she used it in the Aizawa fight

Having that navel cavity helped her out immensely during this fight and she was able to create the alloy material in a much faster way with having access to areas where most of her fat is stored.

Which, I also heard people commenting on how Momo’s body doesn’t make sense and how skinny she is in comparison to her boobs (which I’ve seen that in real life, it’s not uncommon), but if you see in this spread

She actually isn’t the skinniest person in the world. Keep in mind that while she does use her fat cells to make stuff, she does also consume A LOT OF FOOD TOO to keep up with the level of activity too so she does get chubby sometimes so it’s a wrong assumption to think she has this INCRDIBLY PERFECT BODY WITH NO FAT when she does! Which only makes it only more natural and real!

Honestly, her entire arc in the beginning of the manga (or at least up into this exam point) has been so powerful, so realistic, and so amazingly well done.

I mean to consider, very similarly to Bakugou, while we haven’t gotten much of her backstory, given how she behaved in Season 1, we can have a somewhat assumption that she came from a great home and was well praised for her quirk. Obviously, her quirk isn’t one with a talent, she had to work immensely for it, but she must have been placed into situations where she was elevated and praised for how powerful her quirk is (like she was put in situations where she was able to be able to use her quirk to the fullest and not have much backfired).

Even Aizawa says this during their fight

Which does imply this isn’t a constant state she’s always been in, it’s one that has been gained since the sports festival (hence why the arguments that she should be shouldn’t be self confident are wrong).

Yet, with coming to UA and being in a hero course, after participating in the festival, well she starts to crumble and kind of doubt her abilities against the others

Like it starts off with her not getting a high ranking on the race

Then she mentioned the issue with the cavalry battle later on but definitely the heavy hitter for Momo was her fight with Tokoyami where she was left in shambles since she wasn’t able to make much on an impact on the fight itself (which this was amplified more in the anime than the manga itself).

Thus really bringing down her confidence. And now a lot of people screamed about how misogynist her hero training was and how demeaning it was which leads to 2 issues that some people forget about.

 1.     That there are multiple sides to being a hero. It’s not always the cookie cutter “fight villains, rescue people, rinse and repeat”. Even famous people in our society, even though their job is to act/sing/etc, they still go out and do publicity work and that’s what they do. It’s a part of being well known and using your abilities outside of the field you are in.

2.     This was all part of Momo developing. This was just another way to bring Momo down a couple more notches. It’s a bit cruel and hard but this was a way for Horikoshi to get her  out of her mindset and be exposed to something where her confidence could be lowered. Guaranteed if she was put into an actual hero training internship, she wouldn’t have been lowered as much as she did.

Which could lead the argument that it wasn’t necessary to have any of that stuff happen to her but consider, would she have gotten in this state if she didn’t have those things happen and accumulate?

And would she have gotten her confidence back from Todoroki/Aizawa and execute an amazing plan without that encouragement from those moments?

Probably not.

Ok this post is beginning to get way to long so I’m going to stop here before I go on and on and on about Momo. As much as Ochako is my best girl and I will forever sacrifice myself to her, even I have to admit Momo is utterly amazing and I only talked about what happened in the first 65 chapters. I didn’t even brush on how amazing she was during the invasion of the villains or how she managed to be a huge help in the rescue of Bakugou or even how kickass she was during the license exam (which she helped my princess Ochako and that pleased me so much). Momo is just more than the simple sexual object people are complaining her to be as, she’s an incredibly smart and amazing woman and Horikoshi put so much thought into her, more than what any of us could ever imagine. I am truly excited to see more of what she can do in the future and I hope she gains more fans since she truly deserves it.

TLDR; MOMO IS AMAZING, SEND HER LOVE YALL

I'm 14 going on 15 and I hate how so many people who take a character that was just my age, and make creepy art and fic about him. I'm about to turn his current age and have been propositioned since I was 11 and was always told that adults who try things like that are perverts. So why is it when a bunch of 20 somethings pushing a teen who is around my age into a sexual relationship with an adult and do explicit crap, it's not perverted and gross? What about the teens who are feeling sexualized?

First off, thanks for writing me and being polite in your message.

The first thing I want to address is this: you should never be made to feel sexualized. Unless it’s with someone you want to be sexual with, like a crush of yours. Even with someone you consider a crush, if you don’t want to feel that way and don’t want to do anything that can be considered sexual (be it even a kiss), you should never feel forced. This is not just now because you’re a teen, this is something that all of us go through and need to keep in mind even in our 20s, 30s and so on.

I’m so sorry that you feel that way in real life because some adults are absolutely disgusting. They are. Adults that prey on children are absolutely disgusting and horrifying and you should call them out, tell your parents or your teachers or the police. I’m not kidding here. I know it’s hard and you might feel like you’re going to be made fun of, or that they won’t believe you, or that they will side with the adult, or that will belittle you and tell you it’s not a big deal. If you tell someone you trust, they won’t do all those things. Go with your guts. Tell, even if someone only threw nasty words at you or catcalled you (and I really hope you never went through anything heavier than that). In those cases there won’t be much that you can do, but telling someone will help.

What I can tell from your message, is that you (subconsciously or not) equate sex with generally being nasty and perverted. This will probably be unnecessary, but I’ll say it anyway: sex is not inherently gross or disgusting or creepy. If you feel that it is, then it means you’re not ready to enter a sexual relationship, and that’s perfectly fine and normal. I won’t tell you that that’s only because of your age, because some people never (or very rarely) show any interest in sex (it’s called asexuality and it falls under the LGBT+ spectrum). Whether you do end up growing to want sex or not doesn’t matter here.

What matters is that now you clearly don’t want to see sex and anything to do with it in your fandom experience and that’s fine. Tumblr offers you ways to make your experience better and show you only the content you want to see. Block any nsfw tag. Don’t follow blogs whose description clearly states that they post nsfw (like mine). Tumblr is a big and scary place if you just take everything it throws at you (be it ship hate, nsfw stuff, etc). The thing with it is that it can’t cater to everyone’s tastes, so you have to be active about blocking the stuff that YOU don’t want to see. Other 14-going-on-15 year olds might be okay seeing nsfw fanart and posts and that will be their Tumblr experience, but you should definitely take measures to protect yourself from what you don’t want to see.

Now, the thing about Otayuri is that no matter how you twist it, it’s not illegal to ship it, even in a sexual way. You should definitely read this post about it, because the thing is, as much as we can project our feelings and real-world stuff into anime characters, they’re not real.

I assure you that if Yuri on Ice was a flesh and bone show things would be different. I don’t really watch any current TV shows with teens in them so I can’t speak for what other fandoms do with their ship, whether they’re sexualized or not. I can only speak for this silly and amazing anime that’s been consuming my life for the past seven months or so.

Anime and cartoon characters are a safe way to explore things about real life. Whether it be sex or depression or anxiety or simply falling in love, we can all identify with an anime character and see our flaws, our fears and our history in them.

The thing you have to remember is that we (I’m speaking for the slightly older part of the fandom since I’m in my twenties) have been Yuri’s age. We’ve very likely had crushes on boys or girls that were a bit younger, our age or slightly older (like Otabek is). So I think for most of us, shipping Otayuri is a way to remember what it feels like to be a teen and be in love/have a huge crush. We will never be that age again, and maybe there’s things we regret not doing, crushes we wish we had confessed. By shipping Otayuri in an active way (meaning: drawing fanart or writing fanfiction) we can explore things we experienced as teens (or wish we had) and pour a little bit of ourselves in Yuri’s (or Otabek’s) character.

Those things might involve anything from simple fluff or rough sex, because, accept it or not, some people at 15 or 16 were (are) having sex of all kinds. Sweet, loving, rough, vanilla, kinky, you-name-it sex. So not to explore that aspect in a healthy way (through fics or fanart) would be lying about what reality is, it would be denying that we ever thought about or had sex at that age.

Much like with blocking tumblr content, you can choose what kinds of fanfiction you read. Only read General and Teen and Up tagged things, read about fluff and about falling in love in a sweet innocent way. Read anything tagged “Ace!Yuri” (it means asexual, the thing I was telling you about before).

But please understand this: when we sexualize Yuri, we’re mostly sexualizing our (often past) selves. Not other teens, not other real-life people. Yuri doesn’t exist in real life, and many of us see bits and pieces of ourselves in him. When we write about him we really write about ourselves, be it because we want to see how we (maybe a little sassier and bitchier version of us) would have confessed a crush to our best friend, or would have handled the aftermath of having just shoved our gloved fingers in said best friend’s mouth in front of thousands of people. Fanfiction is a study about versions of ourselves that never existed, but might as well have.

Another thing I need to make clear: Otabek is not an adult. I assure you that the morning of your 18th birthday you won’t feel like an adult. You’ll feel like the you from yesterday and it will be anticlimactic af, you’ll be like “That’s it?” and yeah, it will be it. Just because the law in some country or state says that 18 is the age of consent (which is set to 16 or 14 years old in many other countries) it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically an adult at that age. You can be 18 and have had sex since you were 14. You can be 18 and completely uninterested in sex. You can be 18 and have a 15 year old mental age, or you can be 16 and be mentally more mature than some 20 year olds.

What canon has shown us, is that Yuri and Otabek are much closer to each other’s mental age than the 2 years + a few months difference they share. I encourage you to find posts about why there’s no power imbalance between Yuri and Otabek, because they compete in the same sport and they have had similar experiences in life.

In conclusion, if you feel irked about nsfw fanart and fanfics and discussions when it comes to this particular ship, please don’t read it/watch it. But what I can assure you is that none of us are trying to sexualize you or your peers. When we sexualize pixels on a screen we don’t see those pixels as a flesh and bone version of a human, we only see an idealized character whose age we are or have been and whose personality and experiences we want to safely explore.

Also really important: when we write/draw NSFW, we don’t write/draw it for teens to read. I repeat: WE DON’T CREATE NSFW CONTENT FOR TEENS. We’re not your parents or guardians, we write NSFW for whoever feels like they can handle seeing nsfw content. If you’re a teen that goes on the nsfw tag and then complains about it (I’m not saying that’s what you did here, I’m speaking generally), it’s only your fault for going in a tag that you weren’t comfortable to begin with.

TL;DR:

  • Speak up if you feel sexualized IRL in a way you don’t like;
  • Learn how to use tumblr safely, block tags, understand that tumblr doesn’t do those things for you. Make your fandom experience exactly the one you want to see;
  • Don’t trust adults who tell you this ship is somehow illegal: it’s not;
  • Understand what’s behind fiction and fanfiction as a way we have to explore real life things (often too personal to write about as ourselves, so we project those things in characters we like);
  • Understand that adulthood is not something that happens from one day to another;
  • Learn to discern what content is meant to be consumed by a teen and what content isn’t;
  • Be safe.
Learning Graphic Design On Your Own

A Quick Note…

Everyone learns differently. Some people like to ask questions in class, others like to watch videos that they can pause and replay, and even more people could prefer to just tinker and see what happens (I’m personally a tinkerer). The first thing you should do when learning on your own (so probably online or through books) is to do some research and know how you like to learn.

So, let’s start with… what even is “Graphic Design”?

Let’s get this straight… graphic designers aren’t fine artists. They are problem solvers, visual communicators, and sometimes curators of information in an aesthetically pleasing way. We organize information and try to make the world an easier-to-understand and more beautiful place. Of course, there are other fields like advertising where we communicate to customers why they should buy certain products. Or there are User Interface/Experience designers that will develop websites and video game interfaces and design how you interact with it. Look into graphic design and see what field you want to be in. What do you want to do with graphic design?

Fun fact, the google definition says: “the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.” and to that, I’d like to say we do SO MUCH MORE.

Now that you know what you’re doing…Here’s the VERY BRIEF process!
(I may make individual posts for each step later on)

  1. Learn the basics
    1. Typography, how to use the basic principles of line, shape, color, and so on is usually for everyone no matter your field.
    2. Basics like composition are also very important. If you’re into editorial then typographic spreads will be more of your focus. If you’re in web design then seeing how websites are typically laid out will be a thing to look into. Basic typography, color theory, and principles still apply!
    3. Basics and principles are a google search (or a book) away! Everyone talks about these things ALL the time.
  2. Look up inspiration and develop an “eye” for design
    1. Follow design blogs! Follow other designers! On all of your social media! (There are so many Tumblr blogs and Instagram accounts solely dedicated to graphic design curation).
  3. Look into the big names of the industry
    1. Why were they remembered? Everyone else in the field probably remembers them for that, too.
    2. What was so great about them? Apply what you learn to your own work!
    3. If they’re well known, they probably have at least decent work to get inspired from!
  4. Research is done… time to do some work!
    1. If you’re just starting out, there are some things you’re probably not used to. Doing things by hand with sharpie markers on paper will definitely help train your eye and mind to think more about communication, not pretty things.
    2. Abstract things down into simple shapes. Then try communicating that same object with fewer shapes. Maybe only lines? Geometric style? Play around with communication! This is key when you get into icons, logos, and other visuals that require a more minimal look.
    3. Remember, you make information more easily accessible. The best logos are easy to remember because they are simple and effective. Your work may one day need that kind of punch!
  5. The jump from traditional to digital
    1. It’s time to learn about your program(s) of choice… my biggest piece of advice would be to just mess with it. Learning on your own by trying to make something is one of the best ways to train your mind and body on how to use the programs.
    2. Try every tool. Try making basic shapes. Then make basic objects with those shapes. Then try making a person or something more complicated. Try to test every tool to see what you’d use it for!
    3. Don’t know anything or how to do something? Google it! If you’re asking there’s probably 5+ different YouTube videos, 3+ articles, and 100+ tutorials on how to do it.
  6. Let’s work on projects!
    1. Now that you’re familiar with the history, principles, other designers, and the programs… just keep on making stuff!
    2. Making your own projects (make your own website, business cards, a flyer for a club, a T-Shirt, and so on…) is my biggest recommendation on how to learn graphic design. Actually applying everything you’ve learned will make you think in a problem-solving way! Also sharing things that you’ve made that actually matter is way more fun than sharing a fancy circle you made with no context. (You can say “look at this T-Shirt I made!” instead of “look at this weird circle I made!”)
  7. Get feedback from designers and non-designers
    1. Once you’ve made stuff… ask everyone! Non-designers will give you a client’s perspective of your work. A designer’s perspective will help you grow as a designer and they may see things that you and your average person wouldn’t have noticed. (you’re always free to ask me if you’d like!)
    2. Please remember to not take feedback personally (unless they’re being rude, then just ignore them). You’re learning and growing and there’s always room for improvement. A lot of feedback is not a bad thing!
  8. Stay determined!
    1. Being a designer isn’t easy. That T-Shirt you made that took you a couple days? Someone could say they don’t get it. Other designers could say there was a better way to execute your idea. Another person may even say it looks like something else!
    2. When you design you have to expect to make revisions, rethinking, and making more revisions until it’s at a good enough place to publish. But no matter what, you have to remember that it’s not about PERFECTION. It’s about getting it DONE and learning to grow. No one is perfect, and it’s mostly subjective, so just take the criticism you agree with and don’t apply what you disagree with. As a designer, you should know what’s right, wrong, or what you should consider bringing up to other designers.
    3. KEEP MAKING MORE STUFF! You can even remake older stuff as you go on! Just keep going!

That’s my super brief process!

Now honestly, I could’ve gotten down into the nitty gritty details of each step, but this is basically how I’d suggest going about it if you want to get a head start before getting into college, or you want to just learn on your own.

If you guys have any additional questions or want me to go more in-depth about anything, feel free to let me know! :)

a rant on the writing community.

Since it was fanfiction writers’ appreciation day very recently, I feel like contributing to this in a different way, and aim my appreciation to a very particular group of writers. Now, keep in mind that I am in no way belittling anyone and that I support every single writer who works hard on this website. These are just thoughts I’ve had for a long time, and even though it has been talked about plenty of times before, I still feel the need to express my feelings when it comes to this topic in particular, which is heavily related to the writers’ community of tumblr in the kpop fandom. Not gonna lie, this is something I feel kinda salty about and it might get a bit long, so please bear with me :D

Hiveswap  Review (Spoiler)

We’ve been waiting an awfully long time for the Homestuck Adventure Game. First kickstarted in 2012, it’s gone through a troubled development cycle between 3 studios and…. yeah, you get the drift. Even in its final form, Hiveswap has gone through numerous unexplained delays (most infamously the last minute January Launch Month delay), and the development team for it had been very tight-hush until the end of August when a final release date of September 14th was announced.

Now that Hiveswap is out, we’re able to see for ourselves what the development team has been working on. Does it hold up to expectations? Does it make up for the hard delays and extremely concerning lack of communication?

Those are answers you can only decide for yourselves. What I will say, however, is this: Hiveswap is a charming and visually stunning introduction to the Homestuck world, that combines only the best of Homestuck’s humor with a new calmer, more curious and coherent setting.

It’s a shame, then, that the content of Act 1 isn’t a little bit longer. However, the gimmick of combining any item with each other and getting a new description will draw out the length for any lore completionists.

Can you do a dragon age inquisition romanced companions reacting to holding their child with the inquisitor for the first time? This account is probably my favorite on tumblr 😂

Mod Katalyna has returned from being AWOL to bring you her aesthetic: Parents of the Inquisition!(I wasn’t AWOL on purpose, I’m sorry! Life happened.)

Josephine: She’s an utter wreck, her hair a mess, her clothes in disarray, tears streaming down her face, her entire carefully contrived appearance ruined. Yet she’s completely still, only the tears that continuously fall down her face moving as she stares with almost childlike wonder down at her own child. This baby the most precious treasure she’s ever handled, worth more than her entire family’s fortune, and she knows that she’d give up everything she has to make sure this child, her child, is safe and happy. She looks up at her lover to hope that they share her awe at this little being that is now theirs.

Solas: He’s stunned for long moments, no racing thoughts or brilliant plans or anything at all going through his mind. There is nothing but the tiny bundle in his arms, half his, half his lover’s, all its own entity. Finally, a thought crystalizes: if anything in this world is real, it’s this child, my child. Eyes that reflect his own stare up at him, as if the little babe is thinking the same thing. And he knows in that instant that this child is worth risking everything for, even his duty.

Cullen: He holds his baby as if one wrong move could make it shatter, and his lover laughs as they rearrange his hands into a more natural position. But they don’t understand; this child is everything. With his first glimpse, Cullen was lost. This family is his and no one will ever threaten it. And he needs so badly to be a good father to his child, their child. He would give this baby the moons if that was what it took.

Sera: She holds the baby like an old pro but blinks down at the bundle in her arms as if she has no idea what it is. For long moments, she and the baby simply stare at each other, trying to figure each other out. Suddenly, Sera grins, then laughs. “I am gonna teach you the very best pranks, yeah?” she informs the child. Nefarious plots involving Cullen’s training dummy are already hatching. Yet even as she plans mischief, she holds the child, now hers, closer to her chest, protectively. Nobody ever messes with what’s hers.

Dorian: “Well, I, uh… How lovely,” he finally manages to say after holding the child awkwardly for a few long moments. He’s not really sure about this. It’s… it’s a baby. It’s messy and loud and awkward and helpless. Yet then the child giggles and reached stubby little arms out to him, and he’s lost. He knows he has lots of long, messy, loud, awkward, helpless nights ahead of him. But at least his amatus will be there so neither of them will ever get too overwhelmed. They’ll figure it out together.

Blackwall: He’s already got two dozen toys made by the time he holds his child for the first time. He’s prepared to battle the whole world for his baby. He’s done everything he can to be ready, but he’s still completely overwhelmed when he feels the little bundle of life in his arms for the first time. He cries happy tears when the baby pulls on his beard and pulls the other half of his family close by his side, needing to share this moment. Nothing could have ever prepared him for this.

Cassandra: She’s crying and laughing and her warrior persona has completely dissolved into the soft romantic her lover always knew was under her armor. She’s trying to sing through her tears and mostly failing, but she’s gently rocking her child and already promising it all the love she can give. She has her doubts about her abilities as a mother, but she’s going to give it everything she’s got, and her lover will be right there with her through it all. It’s all a little too perfect to believe, but she doesn’t care. It’s hers.

Iron Bull: Whoa, okay, weird. This is weird. He’d never actually thought he’d be raising a kid. If he did have any kids, he’d never have spent any time with them or even really knew about them if he hadn’t become Tal-Vashoth. And he really can’t regret that decision now, with a little bundle way too small for his big arms nestled against his chest. It’s weird but it’s also weirdly right. And he likes the idea of teaching his kid to slay dragons even as he protects them from the world- and the world from them. This could be good, and he knows his kadan will be there for every moment, and that makes it perfect.

Bonus! Because I know we have Krem fans:

Krem: Well, he’d decided to take it all in stride, but the second he laid eyes on his baby he knew that wasn’t an option anymore. Then he held the little squirming bundle and he realized he simultaneously knew exactly what to do and knew nothing at all. He was going to protect this little kid with everything in him, and he was going to hope his lover could help with the rest, because, shit, what do you even do with a kid? He held his child and rocked them gently and he knew he’d figure it all out somehow. Together with his lover, they’d figure it out.

Laura’s goodbye

Hello petals, yesterday and today I talked with Laura about why she decided to delete her blog.

I understood her reasons and I agreed (ofc, duh) to post this message on her behalf. Now I beg you, please read her words, for she really, really wanted to let you all know why she did such a thing.

What you’ll read it’s extremely important and I hope you can find a bit of time to think about her reasons and the whole situation concerning our fandom and the relationship between writers and readers.

I’m sure we all will miss Laura, because she was not only a great writer but also a lovely, beautiful person <3

So, without further ado, these are Laura‘s words for you.

Hello guys! It’s Laura (previously @pantaemonium-deactivated2017062).
First of all I want to thank my dear Conny for allowing me to post this on her blog. I really wanted to have a chance to say goodbye to you.

Many of you will be wondering what happened, how did someone who had just posted that morning and gave no sign whatsoever that she was going to leave… actually left with no explanation at all. Truth be told, I had been thinking about deleting for the longest time. As time passed, I felt more burdened, more pressured to write Fallout, or create contents you would like instead of going for the stories I wanted to write and, at some point I could no longer write a word of the many stories I had started out of an impulse. For someone whose only way of expressing herself is writing, this was devastating and it was taking a great toll on my mental health I was not willing to face for the sake of my blog.

Some WttM thoughts

I still haven’t calmed down from the madness (lbr I never will) but I’m going to try to put some thoughts together. I’m sorry if this will be a mess but I try.

I was there for the whole of it. Well, I wasn’t there when the videos were shown or the manga pages were translated, but I was there when denkimouse started tweeting about it and then I stayed up all night with my internet friends screaming about it here on tumblr (#ripmynotificatons2k17). I saw us all freaking out and I still am freaking out because HOLY SHIT YOI DID THAT. They actually did that.

As a fandom, it’s really normal and expected and amazing that we focus on a ship we all well, most of us love. The first leaked screenshots were understandably about Otabek ripping Yuri’s glove off jesus i still can’t believe he.did.that. and I know for a fact that that’s the most shocking thing about this whole WttM deal and that’s all I’ll talk about probably for the rest of my life (unless the movie outdoes it, which knowing the YOI creators…………I’m honestly shaking at the thought of what they might bring us).

I know we also saw it as a very sexual act and tbh there’s no denying it is (that is not to say that I think it’s canon that they have or will have sex pre or post exhibition skate, but I do believe that shoving your freaking finger in someone else’s mouth the way Yuri did is a really intimate act that you just don’t do with someone you’re just friends with -unless I’m the weird one and everyone else does that, which I’m pretty sure they don’t).

So with a reminder that a ship being canon (which I fully believe Otayuri is as of today) doesn’t mean that the characters have had or are having sex (or kissing, or anything at all), I’d like to point out that watching the video of Yuri’s exhibition skate I’m also really, really happy that that part only takes up only mere seconds of Yuri’s skate.

Let me elaborate.

The whole point of WttM is for Yuri to fix his public image as a skater because he was sick and tired of being remembered as the prima ballerina who only skates to classical music (see the first scans of the manga that were leaked a few days ago, with newspaper headlines focusing on that), and most of all he didn’t want his free skate (that he isn’t fully satisfied with) to be what people talk about, and his tears to be the most shocking thing that happened on the ice (if you ask me, him breaking Victor’s world record is already pretty shocking and amazing, but I believe this is a case of Yuri being an unreliable narrator here -which most teens are).

So I’m glad that Yuri, even with a serious case of crushing on Otabek Altin hard, didn’t linger with his fingers in Otabek’s mouth, didn’t change his choreography to make his skate more sexual than it already was, didn’t waste precious seconds of skating routine for the sake of a boy he’s crushing on. Even mere seconds of that were enough anyway, to shock the audience (both the skating fans within the anime and us YOI fans) and give people something to talk about other than his tears the previous day, and then he simply kept skating, with his heart pounding because holy shit I can’t believe I just did that, I actually felt the inside of Otabek’s mouth but it was just a second and now I’m here and I need to show them how good I am, with this choreography and this song that I made with my new best friend/crush

Yuri’s character has always been about his skating and with Otabek’s arrival in ep10 we started seeing that he can be about much more, and WttM definitely showed us even more of that, but it also showed us that Yuri didn’t change from one day to the other. He is still mostly about skating and shocking his audience (something very Victor-like), and I’m glad the creators didn’t sacrifice his character for the sake of fanservice.

Once again, the YOI staff did nothing wrong in my eyes and I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am.

crush // v.m.p.

you are seven the first time you hear the word crush. it sounds bad, wrong, not fun. a boy has just stolen your football, said to you “girls can’t play with this.” he tells you to go back to your skipping rope. you do. he’s what your mum would call a bully, he’s not worth your time, she’d say. she always says that when lauren mocks you for your lisp, always tells you not to get too involved. so you don’t. when you get home you tell her all about it, how an annoying boy stole what was rightfully yours – you’re angry, vengeful, upset – whilst your mum simply laughs. “he must have a crush on you,” she says, and you stare at her, shocked. you have never seen your mother not take you seriously. you have never heard this word either.

you are ten when a boy smiles at you across the field. he scurries back to his friends quickly after. your own friends are more excited about this than you are – “he probably likes you!” “you’re so lucky, it’s because you’re so loud!” you hear the word ‘lucky’ and feel important, special to someone. you want to be liked. you want to be loved. next time you spy what’s-his-face across the football pitch, you make sure to smile back. you can play these games, you can become the likeable girl. if it’s a competition you’re sure you can win, and that’s what this is. you look at your friends and suddenly you see competitors. it doesn’t feel fun, being in love.

you are eleven when you first kiss a boy. or he kisses you, you can’t quite recall. it is all action and reaction, the way your lips feel dry and it doesn’t feel as good as you expected it to. one kiss after another, no words pass between you and the mystery boy. there are no “I love you’s”, no passion, no meaning behind it. he leaves at the end of the day when all is said and done, after pulling you aside, whispering, “don’t tell anyone.” you wonder if he’s embarrassed of you. vaguely, you think you recall the same boy kissing another girl in the parking lot before summer camp. he has a girlfriend, you soon find out. romance is dead, you realise.

you are thirteen when you have your first boyfriend. he wants to be a rugby player, but this isn’t why you love him – he’s a musician, a pianist. he sends you videos of him playing songs dedicated to you, and you realise this may be the first time a boy has treated you kindly. you make things official – of course you had to be the one to ask – and you tell your friends. “I have a boyfriend,” you say triumphantly. your friends are happy for you, they really are – but they don’t like this boy and you know it. “he’s always putting you down,” your friend tells you, desperately trying to cheer you up after an argument. he’s been telling you your taste in music is shit, and quite frankly it was music that got you into this mess in the first place. you break up with him and focus on yourself. a boy is a bully is not boyfriend material.

you are fifteen when two unexpected things happen. you date a boy who may as well be perfect for you, and you start to notice a female friend in a new way. the tilt of her chin before she laughs, the way the sun catches her auburn eyes. it is a distraction, and not a welcome one. why can’t you be pretty? you feel threatened, you feel not enough. you never want to be alone again. your boyfriend is your sole consolation. “you’re beautiful,” he tells you, and sometimes you think you believe him. “way better than her,” he assures, and suddenly, you can’t. you can’t stop thinking about it, talking to him about it. you worry you’re talking him into loving her, so you split before he has the chance to leave you. your friends liked this one – they’re disappointed.

you are sixteen and you’ve had three boyfriends in the past five months. apparently, this makes you a slut. it is your friend who uses the word first, jokingly, and you remember laughing. other people start using it, though you can’t recall when it took on such a degrading tone. there is spite in it, but you play it right back – “at least I can get a boyfriend,” you snarl, breaking ties with the friend who first brought this ugly word upon you. it’s her fault, you decide. after all, she doesn’t understand. she doesn’t understand that none of them are interesting, that they’ve all been nice, charming, but it’s still not enough for you. you worry that you fall for every boy who’s nice to you. maybe they were right after all. when you ditch your friend, she calls you a “bitch.” and, well – maybe you are.

you are eighteen and you are a slut. you’ve had a long string of guys and you’re worried they’ll start to think you aren’t trying. your mum loves your current boyfriend. truthfully, he’s everything you’ve ever appreciated in a person. sharp, well-spoken, patient. he’s smart and he’s shooting for the moon. he wants to go to oxford university to study law, he wants to travel the world with you, he wants to marry you, and you aren’t sure why. you’ve been with him for seven months. you’ve reconciled with your friend. everyone likes him. everything is as it should be except it’s not. you don’t want to sleep with him. he’s mused about it before but is too nice to ask upfront. you can’t see yourself with him, travelling with him, marrying him – you are not his wife. you tell him this and he argues with you, says, “but I love you.” you cry in each other’s arms, but you know it’s over. maybe you killed romance.

you are nineteen and you’re out clubbing. at least that’s what you’ve been told, but you’re mostly babysitting your drunk friend. clearly you’ll be the one driving tonight. it seems like everyone is wasted, and you’re standing by the bar when you notice yourself noticing. there’s a girl across the room with dark skin and curly hair. she’s wearing a short, tight-fitted skirt and you know this because you’ve been glancing over at her all night. she’s doing the same. she gives you an obvious once-over and you shiver, turning away. less than a minute later and she’s by your side, ordering you a drink. you feel knots in your stomach and you politely refuse – suddenly you feel woozy, and she gently touches your arm, asks if you want to dance. pin-pricks race up from where her skin brushed yours. you want to accept, you step towards her, but then you think twice, hear the word slut echo through your mind. you leave soon after. you never see the girl again, but you can imagine her vividly when you close your eyes.

you are twenty when you tell your friends you might like girls. two of them are shocked, immediately placing a label into the equation that you never gave yourself – “oh, so you’re bi. when did this happen?” you say you don’t know, but you know that’s not true. you think back to when you were fifteen, to your disbelief your friend even exists, your disbelief your boyfriend couldn’t be interested. you think about this for a long time. you remember not wanting to sleep with boys. you remember you are not his wife when by now, you could’ve been. it is your other friend, your best friend, who isn’t shocked. she walks you back to your accommodation, asks you, “are you gay?” you say you think so, and she hugs you. it’s a lovely moment and you’ll always remember it. you don’t worry you might be in love with her. you know what love feels like now.

you are twenty-two and you have a crush. it seems like such a lovely word now. it doesn’t make you feel bitter, or angry. it makes you feel absolutely everything just that little more vividly, like you’re coming into being for the first and last time. she has copper hair and freckles and you imagine stringing them together into constellations. you imagine her taking you out. you imagine things like kissing, touching, breathing in the scent of each other and it feels weird but then it feels normal. you imagine things late at night when you’re cold and lonely that shock and embarrass you. you hear your peers sneering slut at you across the classroom in your mind. your best friend laughs when you call her at midnight. “it’s normal,” she tells you, “you’re just in love.”

you are twenty-three when you ask her out. she tells you she was waiting for you to ask, that she’d been dropping hints for months but couldn’t quite tell whether you felt the same. like all things, you think about it. how you’d stay up late at night texting her, drive down into the city to see her whenever you had the opportunity. how you called her a “good friend” when your mother asked. how you were afraid to be caught falling, scared of what it could mean, crying at night that you have an inability to love anyone properly. you ask her if she thinks you’re a slut. “how many guys have you been with?” she asks. you’re too unsure to be offended – something like fifteen, you say. she laughs. “you could tell me you’d dated every single guy you’ve ever laid eyes on and I wouldn’t think you’re a slut.” you tell her you’ve never dated a girl. you ask if that still makes you a lesbian. she looks at you seriously. “you just like girls?” you nod. “that sounds pretty gay to me.”

you are twenty-four when everything comes full circle. you are with your best friend and your girlfriend. you’re going home to visit your mum, and this time there will be no mincing your words. there will be no “good friend”. there is no slut, there is no shame, there is no doubt anymore. there will also be no boy, which is undoubtedly what your mother is expecting. when you arrive she is happy to see you, but you can tell she’s surprised. she invites you all inside before you can explain. your best friend offers to go and make some tea, gives you a look that says you’ve got this. you settle down on the sofa, thinking about copper curls and hips and curves and freckles and eyelashes and the quiet intimacy of catching eyes with a girl across a dance floor, how you can iterate that to someone who doesn’t understand. “mum,” you start, your voice shaking. “mum, one time, a couple of years ago, I had a crush.”

you are twenty-four and it’s taken you this long, but rest-assured no one can take this from you now.

I list of seriously under-rated animated movies that Tumblr needs to scream about as much as The Big Four but don’t for some reason:

Paranorman

Reason: It had an openly gay charector. And did not make him into a stereotype, they made him the complete opposite of a “gay stereotype”.They also taught very important lessons about not sinking down to other peoples’ levels, how scarey it can be to be different, why adults have such a big problem with people who are different, ghosts, witches, zombies, the antagonist is literally the ghost of a little girl who was KILLED FOR BEING A WITCH IN SALEM TIMES AND ALL SHE WANTED WAS A FREIND Tumblr you scream about these themes in movies you want and here they are

External image

Rango

Reason: Johnny Depp plays a pet chameleon who is terribly lonely and doesn’t know who he is as a person who ends up stuck in a desert pretending to be a sheriff battling a sharp-shooter snake, that should be reason enough, but it includes Beans, who has a type of panic disorder (yes she’s a lizard and alot of lizards do but the way they made a big deal of it sort of made me think of it more in this term) and the entire story is really centered on finding yourself and that’s precious, plus Johnny Depp plays a lonely lizard do I really need to say anything else?

Ice Age

Reason: Well to begin with Scrat is the living embodiment of someone from Tumblr, as is Sid, it has Dodo Birds who have a fighting style called “Tai Kwan Dodo”, the first movie is about a mammoth, a sloth, and a Sabertooth Tiger taking care of a human baby, it also deals with alot of dark points like the food chain, betrayal, family genocide, neglect/abandonment on Sid’s part, the death of a mother trying to save her baby (well let’s be honest most animated movies have that for some reason) and these themes tend to persist (although not as heavily) in the other three films, paticuarly, the theme of loneliness and forming your own family out of odds and ends because your blood family isn’t healthy (abusive like Deigo’s, neglectfull like Sid’s, dead like Manny’s oops) Deigo is the king of sarcasm and is somehow charming, let’s be honest Ice Age is gold

Shrek

Reason: Shrek DOES appear on Tumblr more than anything else but mostly as a joke and I don’t understand that because Shrek has all the themes Tumblr cries about wanting in movies/kids movies, non-traditional princesses, non-traditional female leads, non-traditional romances, a princess not conforming to beauty standards and a male-lead her loves her not “despite that” but FOR that, he doesn’t “accept her”, he LOVES her, Shrek himself is the definition of a charector Tumblr should love, anti-social, sarcastic, awkward, passionate about food, and Donkey, the sarcasm machine who had hybrid babies with a dragon (again laughing in the face of traditional gender roles y the way) a cross-dressing wolf, a prince who’s actually a selfish mama’s boy, Puss In Boots- and if you don’t love him I just want to know, WHY?- who has his own spinoff movie with another BAMF, non-traditional female-lead who, instead of having to be a loyal princess, is more of a “I love you but let’s not make a big deal of it so I’ll come around when I come around” bandit in her own right, and although I honestly think the hay-day was the first two movies, the latest one DOES have Fiona as the leader of a rebellion war group…

The Croods

Reason: Besides the explosive humor and adorable animals, it has an amazing female lead, the male lead isn’t just some pretty-boy love interest, he’s actually USEFULL, but I think what I love the most is actually the father role, because he isn’t presented as a clueless push-over, nor a stereotypical “No daughter of mine will __!” type, he actually represents a very accurate portrayal of the difficult to walk line between “I need to protect my family” and “I need to loosen up and let my kids make their own decisions”, he doesn’t do anything out of the “power of being a man” or just wanting his family to do what he says because he’s the leader, he very genuienly is afraid of losing his family because as the days pass the population IS getting thinner and thinner, and like most people, especially most parents, he doesn’t know how to handle that fear without going overboard, it also represents the fear of change without making that in it’s self a joke

The Secret World Of Arrietty

Reason: No animated movie list would be complete without a Ghibli film, but I’m really surprised that Arrietty doesn’t get the same love on Tumblr that Holw’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, Spirited Away, and other Ghibli films get, it was almost swept under the rug, besides having a common thread on this list with the female lead being strong and independant and having a great family dynamic, I’m mostly impressed with the male lead, who doesn’t take the typical role of a male protagonist by using strength to overcome his obstacles as much as he uses cleverness, Sho (Shawn in the English dub) has a very strong since of compassion and moral values that isn’t usually there in the beginning of the movie for male protagonists, it’s usually a learned trait, but he’s very understanding to start with of Arrietty’s compromising position and only wants a freind, he also has a heart condition that plays a part in his loneliness in the movie, Arrietty, like many Ghibli movies, also ends with the leads remaining only close freinds and not love interests, as well as with going their own ways but hoping to see eachother again, they do so in a way that leaves the ending still sweet, rather than the usual bitter-sweet feel of these sorts of things, not to mention the breath-taking animation is enough to keep your eyes on the screen even if the sweet story doesn’t interest you

Hotel Transylvania

Reason: With Monster High being the sensation it is, paticuarly on Tumblr, I’m increasingly shocked that Hotel Transylvania hasn’t made a splash, besides the absolutely adorable personality of Mavis- and Dracula makes it easy to see where she got that from- most of the charectors that so much as have speaking roles have some level of amusement to them, Mr. Wolf’s family on it’s own could be a movie as far as I’m concerned, but what really makes me love the movie is the plot, it’s more than the typical vampire/human soul mate romance (although the quirkiness of this one and the awkwardness of Johnathan) it’s more than anything about Dracula, like The Croods it shows the father role as more than the typical “I don’t want my daughter to date because of reasons” thing, it depicts a very justified fear of humans and how the death of his wife pushed his already astoundingly strong love for his daughter into a hyper-drive of overprotectiveness, and it shows that, although he is willing to go to any length to protect her, he very often has a hard time justifying his extreme actions to himself, and unlike most fathers in this sort of plot, he doesn’t just “accept” his daughter’s decisions, he actively seeks to help her get what she wants from them, and if nothing else I’d have thought that the references to cosplayers and Twilight would make Tumblr giggle, but really Dracula wins the Best Dad Ever award

Epic

Reason: Following the trends of strong female leads, we have this peice of gold, I would think Beyonce playing a Faery Queen would have put Epic on Tumblr’s radar but apparently not, the animation is stunning, by far one of, if not the, best movie on this list in terms of the animation quality, the charectors are all clever and unique, with a familiar sense of searching for where “home” is and what’s really important in life, it also puts a new spin on the faery/human relationships that we so often see repeats of, it isn’t the classic “Humans hunt faeries but learn their lesson” movie, nor is it quite as innocent as Arrietty, not to mention that the concept of the Queen and the Leaf Men are very unique in their construction

Tinkerbell and Disney Fairies movies

Reason: All I ever see of Tinkerbell (this one atleast) on Tumblr is hate about wishing she was the same amount of sassy and bad attitude that she was in Peter Pan’s world, but two things aren’t being taken into consideration here (and I think the reason for that is that most people on Tumblr don’t bother to see the movies) and those are 1. Tinkerbell DID have alot more attitude in the first two movies, paticuarly the second, and she was very easily riled and very easily frustrated, traits shown in Peter Pan (although I have honestly not watched Peter Pan in yeaaaaars so I don’t remember her from there very well) in Tinkerbell’s second solo movie it was highlighted the most and she also saw just how strong those traits were in her and she decided to change, 2. This PRECEEDS Peter Pan, if I’m not mistaken Pan’s Tinkerbell had been cast out of Pixie Hollow, it would be understandable that Tinkerbell, who already had these qualities in a lower dose, would only increase in frustration and jealousy if she had been an outcast, the thing is, people change, something obviously happened for Tinkerbell to decide to join Peter and leave Pixie Hollow, the Disney Fairy movies don’t demonstrate that, they show her adventures from before she joined Pan, they may eventually show a flittering relationship/meeting between the two but I doubt it, the Fairy movies have alot of classic Disney qualities and speak out most against following rules and conformity, from the first movie when she found herself put down for being a Tinker fairy and wanting to change her talent, to Secret Of The Wings when she meets her fraternal twin sister Periwinkle against the rules of Pixie Hollow, to The Pirate Fairy when the story centers not on Tinkerbell, but on Zerena, who was constantly spoken down to and made to feel unwelcomed just for wanting to experiment with the laws of Pixie Dust, it has a carefully strung balence between “The rules are in place for a reason” and “Sometimes you need to break them and that’s ok” and it’s done quite nicely

Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron

Reason: If I had to pick ONE movie that is the most underrated from this list, it would be Spirit, although it may look like a cute little movie about horses and rebellion, that really isn’t the case, the theme is very strong throughout the movie that the white men fighting against the Lakota tribe were in essence trying to break/imprison them just as much as they were the horses, Spirit is the only movie I know of that shows just how wrong the attack from Europeans on Native Americans was without it being a documentry of some sort, and although I think Disney’s version of Pocahontas TRIED to give off this vibe, I think it did poorly with it and gave a little too much (ok, alot too much) credit to the white men who came in and took everything the native people had,Spirit had none of that, I myself am white, but with some strong Native roots, I may be missing something that someone who’s purely/mostly Native American would find offensive, but as far as I can tell, Spirit does very well at representing the severely underrepresented group of people, and very accurately represented the cruelty of the Europeans, especially during that horrible war, even more than that though, it gave, in my opinion, a representation of Spirit and Little Creek’s relationship without making it corny or stereotyped, honestly, if I get pick any animated movie to get as much reckognition as Frozen does, Spirit would be it, because it isn’t JUST a good movie, JUST gorgeous animation, JUST a cute story… it’s all of those things, but more than anything, it’s a message that DESPERATELY needs to be heard in America, that just keeps getting shushed: Native representation, white power and how wrong it is- and was most especially when the Europeans took over- treating ALL people, as well as animals, with respect, free will, and I could just go on and on…

As much as I love the popular animation on Tumblr, Disney Princesses, Frozen,Rise Of The Guardians, How To Train Your Dragon, Finding Nemo, etc, these movies REALLY need to get out there, they have some important things to say

veganism by proxy and dangers of assumption

this is unrelated to anything else on my blog and mostly likely no one will ever read it and that’s okay I think I just need to get it out of my head and into the living world

Three of my best friends, two of whom I live with, are vegan. Their friends are vegan and their friend’s friends are vegan, and they work at vegan restaurants and we cook vegan, I bake them vegan treats and we generally have a fantastic time. I’m not vegan, but I’ve always eaten vegan food and tried out alternatives whenever I can. I’ve never been the type to make fun of vegan stereotypes, because I think it requires a lot of dedication, passion, and effort to be vegan. I’m not a huge meat eater and I try to be aware of what I’m eating and where it came from and the process it took to get to my mouth, while still indulging in the foods I love and the tastes that make live worth living. dramatic? absolutely but I really fucking love food y'all

None of my friends have ever tried to convert me or (that I know of) judge me or my eating habits, but every so often I meat someone (heh) who isn’t satisfied with my usual answer of “I’m not vegan, but I cook and eat vegan often” and feel the need to go “well why don’t you just go vegan then?”

Does asking someone about their personal choices becomes less personal when it’s something you care a lot about? I don’t think so, but that might not be a shared opinion.

The girl who asked this (this time, because there’s definitely been others) didn’t just drop it once I said “Ah, just personal reasons. I think it’s an incredible movement though and I’m glad it’s gaining popularity.” because that would’ve been too polite. She pressed on.

“But if you think it’s so incredible why wouldn’t you just do it? You say you love animals, but you’re contributing to their murder. You’re just a hypocrite.”
So I said what I initially didn’t want to, because I knew it would just make a semi-pleasant conversation into an awkward silence all because this girl doesn’t know how to respect other people’s choices without disparaging them.

“Well I had a severe eating disorder for seven years, so I stay away from restricting or cutting foods out of my diet. It puts me into a dangerous mindset, so I try to be conscious of that and take care of myself before anything.”

Even after saying this I felt I was still being judged. She had the decency to look a little embarrassed for prying, but I don’t necessarily believe she left thinking “maybe I should stop assuming I know the intricacies of strangers’ lives”. Which is what it all comes down to. Assumptions.

I love animals. Animals have been what showed me true love, what taught me understanding and helped me find happiness and purpose ever since I was young. My cat died years ago and I still break out in tears (regularly). What’s more is I have been vegan, and every time I do it I think I’ll be able to handle it, and every time I’ve ended up underweight, restricting, anemic, in the hospital, or with a severely disordered way of thinking. It happens eventually with any change in diet I try. I don’t like having to explain to someone why I think it’s important to put myself, my mental health, and my physical wellbeing first. We all have deeply personal decisions about our lives that we have to make. It’s up to us as individuals to decide how our (very short) experience on this world will be.

I try not to share my stances and opinions on tumblr and just stay for the fun things I love like anime, humor, video games, art. I feel as if I have a lot of grey area stances that aren’t emotion driven (and therefore come off as cold or unfeeling) and people online generally don’t like hearing morally ambiguous viewpoints, because there’s always going to be someone who disagrees, right? I hope this isn’t taken as an anti-vegan post, because it isn’t. Veganism is an amazing movement and lifestyle that’s saving lives, water, resources and more. This is an anti-judgement post, though. It’s anti-assumption. Assumption is a toxic part of our culture. It’s assuming you know how someone else thinks. It’s assuming you understand what they’ve been through to bring themselves to a certain stance or choice or belief.

If even one person read this, thanks man. If even one person remembers this and thinks of it while practicing patience with an opposing viewpoint (no matter how passionate you are on the subject) I’ll be stupid happy.

I wonder what everyone who says they don’t see a rebuild this season will say when Olicity reunites 🤔

…then I realize what they’ll probably do is say “this came out of nowhere! they just threw this together to try to save ratings/appease the shippers!”

…and that will be the final step in them becoming exactly like the LL/OQ shippers and comic stans who insisted that Olicity “came out of nowhere” in season 3 and who have been lamenting fanservice all this time. They will have officially become that which they used to hate.

(5:41pm, edited to add: I don’t like to edit or delete posts because, most times, I stand by everything I say, but it’s come to my attention I need to clarify these first two paragraphs. There’s been some misunderstanding of what it is I’m actually saying here. I’m not comparing fans who disagree with seeing a rebuild to LL/comic stans. I am not saying that fans who disagree with what I say below hate Olicity like LL/comic stans either. I am saying that if, when Olicity reunite, this small segment of fans say the above statements, that I feel there’s a comparison to the same statements made by LL/comic stans in the past. Not the hating Olicity part, the part about claiming fanservice and “came out of nowhere”. It’s about the rhetoric used. No disrespect was intended towards any Olicity fans currently, it was simply my intention to express a hope that this not be the rhetoric spread. I said it in a way that was easy to misinterpret, I think. What I said below is the meat of the matter here: that it’s okay to disagree with seeing a rebuild. That I don’t mind people who don’t agree with me. That it’s okay to have different opinions on this. If you take away anything from this post, that should be it. The above was a musing I had after seeing a post here on Tumblr and me wondering what might be the spin from those fans, and hoping that wasn’t the case. That is all.)

PSA: It’s not just actor ad-libs that have given us the Olicity moments and the hints of rebuild this season. It wasn’t an ad-lib that put that (albeit corny) flashback in 509. It wasn’t an ad-lib that had Oliver tell Felicity they were a mortal lock. It wasn’t an ad-lib that had Oliver seeing Felicity in the Dominator dream-world and flashing back to their relationship and how that was supposed to mean something to him. It wasn’t an ad-lib that Oliver chose to protect Felicity against Black Siren instead of face off against Prometheus. Or any of the other times he’s exhibited protectiveness and concern about her. It wasn’t an ad-lib that had him running into her arms, that had that bright light of the blast shine over them as they embraced. It wasn’t an ad-lib that had them standing in that green light in 502, talking about what matters. It wasn’t an ad-lib that had John Diggle setting up the season long question to Oliver Queen in that facetime conversation in 501. What about you and Felicity? He doesn’t know. But the smile on his face said he had hope. That question was set up so that it would be answered. It was answered one way in 4x23. It will be answered in a different way by the time 5x23 is done, one way or another.

I could go on and on but it comes down to this: I understand if some are reluctant to see the rebuild. Honestly, I get it. It’s been a year since they’ve been together and they don’t want to be patient. They’re frustrated with things that have happened to and between Oliver and Felicity. They feel disenfranchised. They don’t ship it anymore but aren’t sure how to pull away from fandom. Or they do ship it but don’t want to because they feel it brings them only pain. They get upset when they see other fans that do have hope, for a lot of different reasons but mostly because they can’t share that hope. They want to warn others off of it so they don’t get disappointed. Believe me, I get all of this.

I’m not trying to make anyone change their mind and agree with me. I don’t care if anyone does, to be honest. It’s enough for me that I see the clear signs of the rebuild. The narrative makes sense to me. The practical business side of this makes sense to me. I don’t expect it to make sense to everyone and disagreement doesn’t bother me. So feel free to ignore this post. It won’t hurt my feelings. This post wasn’t meant for the people I mentioned in the previous paragraph anyhow.

But to the people who are open to interpretations of this season, to the people who are looking for reasons to hope, to the people who tell me all the time, often privately, that they appreciate the things I say and how I try to share my optimism with fandom: this post is for you

I would like to thank @leaalda for making these amazing banners.

This is an effort to spread the word about all fan fiction writers in our little fandom. If you would like to be featured or nominate a writer, please contact me. Please reblog this post if you can and check out some of @sylwrites work!

1. First things first, if someone wanted to read your stories where can they find them?

They’re posted exclusively on AO3.

2. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m in my mid-twenties and I live in Canada. I have a giant dog that’s a lumbering buffoon of an animal and less free time than I’d like.

3. What do you never leave home without?

As a true millennial, my cell phone.

4. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Early bird.

5. If you could live in any fictional world, which one would you choose and why?

Probably something totally unachievable like Harry Potter, just to be escapist.

6. Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met.

Literally no one. I saw Billy Bush from afar once (pre-Trump tape days), but that’s it.

7. What are some of your favorite movies/TV?

I’m a big fan of mafia movies from the 70s through the 90s, like Casino and Goodfellas. Shows like Riverdale are a guilty pleasure, but I also love Game of Thrones and Westworld.

8. What are some of your favorite bands/musicians?

I mostly listen to alternative rock/pop and indie, but honestly lately I mostly listen to podcasts.

Okay antis, read the whole thing

So, I joined TCC like week ago (Ive been stalking yall for way longer tho lmaoo) and I decided to make my own post to antis.

Ok so, first of all, this ain’t a serial killer fandom, thank you. TCC ain’t a fandom, bless you.

Anyway, I’ll start with a little background alright ? So, I have been on tumblr maybe like 3 years, with different blogs. When I joined tumblr, I had an eating disorder and I used to have just a regular beauty blog, I saw pictures of other beautiful, skinny, anorectic, girls and compared myself to them daily. I posted my face there, my body, just everything, and I got a lot of compliments, mostly from men, adult men(I was a minor) and I started to feel like I need their acceptance and I need to be skinny and pretty in order to get it. I was well liked, I seemed happy and I made myself seem perfect, I was skinny, I took pictures with tons of makeup and filters. But in order to maintain that, I didn’t eat, I was really depressed, I had suicidal thoughts and shit. But I kept it going, really, those skinny girls you see on tumblr, they haven’t eaten in days to get those ribs showing, and in order to look so perfect they took tons of pictures, pushing their body in the weirdest positions, that are not normal, and it hurts to take those pictures. But that was all that I had, I thought I needed to be pretty, in order to be liked and happy. I thought I needed to be skinny or all the people would leave.

Then, one day I was listening to one song from Roope, he rapped about Jokela’s school massacre, I was really depressed back then, I had never been interested in any fictional characters, shows and such, I had always loved to read real stories and news about violent crimes, murders, etc since I was a little, I don’t know why, they excited me, but I just thought I was weird and that there weren’t any other people like me. Well, I went to read about the massacre, and there I found my way to read about columbine as well, I got really interested in it. I read everything about it and on some page the word “columbiners” catched my eye. I was like “omg, school shooter fandom, so gross, terrible, sick kids omg lolol they prolly planning a school shooting!!!!!111!! CALL THE POLICE !!!111!”, yea, just like you anti guys, I was one of yall too.

But I couldn’t help myself, and I went to tumblr and hit the search. I was shocked, I found people just like me, I found people who were also interested in violent crimes and murderers, I found people who didn’t say I was sick or weird for finding interest in those things. I found TCC. I felt like here I can talk about everything that fascinates me.

Then I joined TCC, people werent throwing their skinny bodies and makeup caked faces everywhere, I didn’t need to stress, everyone was just being themselves, making memes and jokes about dylann roof forgetting his damn age, no one was planning a fucking mass murder, I didnt need to be skinny, pretty and perfect, I didn’t need to fake anymore. I was able to openly talk about my interests and not just keep all my thoughts inside, because if I had kept all them inside, I would’ve definitely exploded at some point. Before TCC I thought I didnt belong, I thought no one understood me, I thought I was sick and something was wrong with me and everyone else was normal. But here, if I feel suicidal I can just hit someone up and they will talk me through it, I need advice? Literally anyones ready to help you. Violent thoughts ? EVERYONES READY TO TALK WITH YOU AND HELP YOU TO GET RID OF THEM, NO ONE IS COURAGING YOU TO SHOOT UP A SCHOOL U FUCKING DUMB CORNDOGS.

Theres much higher chance for those people with violent thoughts and interest in this kind of stuff to commit something if they feel like there is no one like them and they are left outside. But if you actually find people like you, community like TCC, you feel like you are not alone, there are people who understand you, you feel accepted somewhere. The fact TCC doesnt fail to also put a little fun in the mix w all the serious stuff also, is really amazing too. Now your thoughts must be that “you need therapy u sick fuck, kill yourself” thank you for your concern love, I do go to therapy ! And many people in the TCC do ! Telling us to kill ourselves will definitely not help us, or make us want to leave TCC, the community, that actually supports us and doesnt want us to go and take our life. It just makes us to feel more like outsiders and that we dont belong anywhere but TCC, so jot that down.

Next point, is that the ones here interested in Columbine ARE NOT FUCKING HAPPY ABOUT THE SHOOTING, THEY WISH THEY COULDVE BEEN THERE FOR THE BOYS AND SHOWED THEM THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE THEM, AND THAT THEY DONT NEED TO DO IT. There are people out there just like Dylan and Eric, some of them have found TCC, and have found people who accept them, bullied kids have found a safe place where they can talk about their thoughts and dont have to keep them inside. The teenagers, interested in Columbine, have found friends here that get them up in the morning when the bullies are trying to push them down.

And if you are gonna say now that u aim your shit at the kids who say they condone, then just think about yourself, or some of your friends, when you were 13, I was a fucking edgy emo kid too, they get over it okay ? Dont tell them to kill themselves for it, they will understand it eventually, they are rebelling teenagers, just chill the fuck out. If you need to do something, try to calmly talk to them about it and tell that you understand how they feel right now, but things get better and why its not okay to say that. Just, calm, the, fuck, down. Jesus.

Also if you are gon say “u sick fucks serial killer worshippers omg”, then you are on the wrong lane honey. On the serial killer side of the TCC people are mostly just writing down facts, traits to spot a serial killer, how abusive parents and such are usually related to these things, how to avoid these things from happening again, or making jokes and editing pictures to make the killers look dumb as fuck. And then about that some people find the killers attractive? So fucking what? Pretty sure that doesnt affect your fucking day in any way, and also, Richard Ramirez had really nice cheeckbones no matter is he a murderer or not, thats a fucking fact, amen.

If you are mad about that kid who said that tcc should be part of the pride: THE WHOLE FUCKING TCC IS DISAGREEING WITH THEM, LIKE LITERALLY ONE PERSON DOESNT REPRESENT THE WHOLE COMMUNITY, IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT, YOU CANT JUST PICK SOME DUMB KID AND SAY THAT EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD IS LIKE THEM.

Then last, may I ask, dont you ever get tired of being so angry? Like do yall eat salt for breakfast? Jesus.

Hello. I've been tracking your tumblr for a while now and finally got around to following you. If I may take a crack at Tony being Villains’ Favorite? Heads up, though: As a noob, I’m not sure how to do breaks in asks, or how to do italics, so bear with all the capitalizations please. I’m an italics-abuser. Also, there's going to be SO MANY messages coming your way. (1/?)

Consider this: For a guy who talked to (with?) Loki for a few hours MAX, Tony figured out his plan pretty quickly. Maybe it was part of Loki’s plan for Tony to figure him out and stop the invasion, but what if instead Tony’s just that good at reading people? Enter villains with all their broken-ness. (2/?)

The first is Doom, mostly because the bastard sent over a couple of drones when Tony first came out as Iron Man. So of course he has to go to Latveria personally to investigate. It’d be rude not to. And Jarvis, resigned to it all, just compiles a shit-ton of research on Doom because if Mr. Stark simply HAS to go to Latveria, perhaps Mr. Stark should look into the country’s laws, customs, and her psycho king. (3/?)

But instead of taking the hint, Tony SEES something in those footages. So he builds a quick little thing and then goes to Latveria. Doom, understandably, almost has him arrested for trying to invade his country, and since Tony had flown using the Iron Man armor, he considers taking the armor and studying it. Copying it. Whatever. But then Tony gives him a gift. (4/?)

It looks like some sort of obsidian statue of a cat, but then the statue MOVES. It’s a ROBOT. With an A.I. because why not? Besides, everyone needs their very own Jarvis, right? Right.(The truth is, though, that Tony noticed in Jarvis’s compilation that Doom really, REALLY doesn’t like people in his space, and he HATES people touching him. But more than that, he kind of reminded Tony of a weird cross between a soldier and a cornered animal, so Tony got him someone to help. (5/?)

It’d be all kinds of fucked up not to, no? But, like, a robot, not a human someone, because he didn’t forget that Doom didn’t like people in his space.) (6/?)

And Doom wasn’t about to let himself be bribed, he wasn’t, but then the cat jumps to the ground and looks up at him with glowing green eyes and asks him what her name is. IN LATVERIAN. And she’s just outside his personal bubble, sitting close, but not too close, and Doom, he just. He can’t understand. Why would Stark give him anything after he sent drones to steal whatever intel they could about his armor? Why would Stark give him what he very much suspects is an honest-to-God A.I.? (7/?)

Tony offers to take it back when Doom interrogates him (without torture, he’s gone soft, has let himself be bribed, damn it), but Doom just flat-out uses his magic to basically kick Stark out of his country. Whether or not she’s a product of insanity or stupidity or both, Vesna is HIS. Take-backs aren’t allowed. (8/?)

The rest of the world wonders what the fuck happened in Latveria that’s made her patriarch so much more stable than he’s ever been, but no one really tries to look into it. Doom isn’t making trouble for once, and they’re all for not looking a gift horse in the mouth. (9/9)

Well in that case, welcome to the craziness! I’m glad you chose to stick around, especially with all the asks you just sent me!! (Don’t let my complaining and terrible response time fool you, I love getting asks)

I’m not sure if you want me to expand on your headcanon or just wanted to share it, but can I just say I ADORE this idea that Tony was just sitting in his workshop, studying Doom’s behavioural patterns etc (possibly for a half-serious fight preparation, possibly to keep JARVIS from nagging), saw that Doom was lonely and was just like- hey, I can do something about that, then went ahead and did it. Just because he could. (”So why wouldn’t I?” he asks Rhodey, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.)

Also yes, Doom clearly has gone soft. (He doesn’t offer Tony something to drink though, so that’s something, he’ll tell himself later.)

Just out of curiosity, since you started this with the words “The first is Doom”, do you have any headcanons for other villains?

Things I Wish I Knew/Advice as a Graphic Design Major

I got an ask from an incoming graphic design student asking what I wish I knew before I entered my major and any tips or words of advice. This is mostly what I personally feel/felt so go ahead and ask others, too! Here we go!

Things I wish I knew before starting:

  • Look into your field.
You’re in the major. Neat. But do you actually know what your major does? Graphic Design is a very broad field that can go into a lot of different avenues. Before starting, you should look into these avenues and see which ones most interest you. Also, look into the big names of that industry and look at their portfolios or what they’re doing. Not only will it impress your professor, you’ll also feel better prepared and motivated to learn since you’ll aspire to do something specific.
  • There’s a weird sense of competition.
Not that I mind because I’m naturally kind of competitive, but don’t join in on that atmosphere if people are starting to get toxic because they want to be “better than you”. I always tried my hardest because I was crazy and had self-esteem issues that relied heavily on my grades validating me. Don’t be that person. Learn and do your best for yourself and you’ll get praised for not trying to be the best, but for doing good work because you pushed and wanted to. Your work will be better because you wanted to be better, not because you’re trying to beat someone else. That, and it’s a lot less stressful to just worry about yourself and not others.
  • Your drawing and traditional skills are useful in your digital work.
Scanning it in and manipulating digitally can give an amazing effect to your projects and make them stand out!
  • Give help, not free labor.
I’ve always been the type to offer help and advice when asked without hesitation but after some time my professor had actually told me to not do that anymore. Not because she doesn’t appreciate me trying to be a good person, but mostly because in the real world there isn’t always someone next to you telling you how to do things. She wanted me to give students the chance to figure it out on their own. So I started telling them just hints instead of exactly how to do things. Also, some people will take advantage of your kindness and ask for help in a way that’s more than “helping” so be aware. If you’re not comfortable with the amount of work and time it’ll take to “help” someone, just tell them that you don’t have the time or brain power at the moment and offer tips instead of where to look next.
  • Don’t feel bad for “over achieving”.
Doing one extra sketch or the homework when no one else did is not a bad thing. Even if you get snickers or comments, always take them with positivity. Most of the time the comments aren’t as negative as you think. They’re mostly just poorly-worded compliments when you really think about them. “Oh, of course ___ did the homework.” Yup. I did. Because you all know how on top of things I am. You’re welcome. At one point my professor had even pulled me aside and complimented me on how much extra work I had put in and that she was glad that I was raising the bar. I got an award the year I did that, too, so it pays off in all kinds of ways!
  • Don’t feel bad for “failing”.
Everyone has a bad day. Even the “over achievers” have a bad day. Sometimes things are just… poop… just straight up stinky poop that no one wants to deal with. But in order to get rid of it, you gotta confront it and accept it. Got a lower-than-average grade? Make it up on the next assignment or do extra credit to bring that grade back up. Didn’t get positive feedback on your work? Apply the feedback you got in a constructive way and figure out a new way to look at the project. You don’t really “fail” if you’re learning from your mistakes.
  • Everyone does things and thinks differently.
This is something that you definitely have to get used to when entering college. In High School, the classes and standards were pretty similar and you’re usually told exactly how to do something. You’re also all from the same area because the population is determined by things like bus route. In College, you possibly have people from all over the world attending your classes. How they learned to do something could be an easier way to do it, or it could just be different. You don’t always know the “better” way and there isn’t always a “better” way in the first place. There’s just a way to do it that some people prefer and some don’t. Learn from each other, advise each other, and don’t get easily offended or defensive when someone wants to teach you a new way of thinking or doing something. College is all about LEARNING.
  • Studying in a group is fun, but it’s not always effective.
Some people say that studying in a group is great because you get different perspectives and you can ask for help from your peers. Yes, it’s a great way to study, but not always. Choose carefully who you’re working with. If they’re distracting and you’re not getting work done, then they are not right for your study group. You also don’t always need a study group. If you’re just note taking a reading for English, you can probably just do that on your own and message a classmate if you don’t understand a line. It’s really up to you and how you study best! Don’t be peer-pressured to do things with other people if it doesn’t help you.

Tips (basically a shortened version of above and more elaboration):

  1. RESEARCH. AHHH. Just a google search at least. Give it an hour or two of just curiosity. Look into things that interest you. See what’s happening. Subscribe to some channels or follow some Tumblr blogs about your field. Learning can happen outside of the classroom and not be stressful.
  2. There is a balance between confidence and arrogance. You aren’t always right, but make sure you notice your strengths as well as your weaknesses.
  3. Your skills could be more helpful than you think. Find ways to incorporate your skills into your work!
  4. Make sure to watch out for yourself as well as others. Your time and education are just as important as theirs.
  5. Try your best and you will get the results you deserve. If you go overboard then awesome, just don’t burn yourself out.
  6. Do not wallow in your grief. Please do not get held up by one failure. Learn and grow as you should during these pivotal years of your youth.
  7. There is a whole world outside of you that thinks a million different things in a million different ways. Be open and receptive to things that are not familiar to you.
  8. Don’t feel pressured to do things with friends if you don’t want to. Everyone needs a break and needs to know their limits. Don’t eat out for dinner or go drinking or go to a party when there’s an exam to study for that starts at 9 AM that can fail you. Even if EVERYONE will be there, including your crush and best friend and the president, they are not your priority (and they’re also not paying the course fees for that class you might fail if you don’t study). Friends are important, but take a break every once in a while.
  9. Be physically healthy in some way. If you’re a potato like me that works on their laptop for hours and doesn’t move, either get up and squeeze in some exercise or stop eating chips and eat an apple instead. At least make the effort, even if it’s small.
  10. Find what works for you early on. If you’re a visual learner, maybe invest some time in learning how to sketch note. If you like to listen to lectures later on, ask your professor if you can record the lecture as a voice note. If you need to interact then ask questions and form friends early in the semester to make a study group. Can you listen to music while you work or is it too distracting? Try things now before they mess up your studying when it really matters.
  11. Be happy with yourself. You are trying your best. You are doing something. You are worth everything because you are a human being and you are the unique YOU. Someone cares for you with all their heart. You may not know who they are now, but in time someone will care for you deeply and wish you all the happiness in the world. Keep going.

That’s all I’ve got at the moment without typing an essay, haha! Hope this helps! If you guys have any specific questions about anything feel free to ask me!

Right Kind of Wrong

okay, but I reread my flyers!Geno verse last night—which I’ve somehow forgotten to re-upload on tumblr—and it is pretty A++ if I may say so myself.

Who’s gonna write me the fic where Geno is a Flyer and only ever chirps Sid in Russian? Like, every time the Pens play against the Flyers, Geno will whisper at him during faceoffs, taunt him when Geno scores a goal or coo at him when Sid does—and it’s driving him crazy, right? And even if he is amazing at hockey (which Sid will admit only over his dead, cold body), Malkin is a bit of a douche and a bully. Sidney tries to ignore him mostly, but the thing is, the Russian? Yeah, Malkin does it only with him. Sid has lost count of how many times Malkin has chirped at Nealer as he skates past, calling him lazy or ‘the real deal’, a mocking smirk firmly in place.

So Malkin obviously knows how to speak English, only he doesn’t with Sid. Not ever.

It’s driving Sidney up the wall.

Not even Giroux manages to get under Sid’s skin as easily as Malkin does.

Sidney, because he is a practical guy, decides it’s the Russian. It’s the not knowing what he’s saying, is all. He already speaks French, so Giroux’s chirps never bother him, but the Russian…the Russian is throwing him off.

He decides to learn Russian.

Okay so I know that tumblr has a hard-on for Six of Crows and yes it is an AMAZING SERIES. But there’s one part of the book that really, really bothers me. And that my friends, is Matthias Helvar

Now, no one jump down my throat about this because it’s like a half formed thought and not a carefully written meta

I just…couldn’t help thinking that the relationship between him and Nina is SO UNREALISTIC. And sort of…icky? I mean first of all, why is the burden of changing his mind about Grisha placed on Nina’s shoulders? I know that it’s mostly just Nina existing and being her amazing self that changes Matthias’s mind about Grisha but likE COME ON. First of all, you shouldn’t need to fall in love to not act like a racist prick. But this is the choice Leigh makes, so regardless of the fact that Nina chooses to also fall for Matthias…it’s still a narrative where a racist is suddenly not racist because he’s finally met someone who defied his preconceived notions about the race he hates. But this is not! how! racism! works! in the real world!

I mean, in our world, Matthias would be like…equivalent to the KKK. Or an ICE agent. Or…someone who really hates all muslims. Or the pulse nightclub shooter. He isn’t just some guy who supported Trump because he hated Hillary. He’s…the guy who chose to join the group responsible for hunting down a specific marginalized group, the Grisha. He isn’t like…just a citizen of Fjerda. His job is….getting rid of Grisha. Like…he is the Grisha world equivalent of the KKK in the South during reconstruction.

Which brings me to my second point.

I wouldn’t buy a love story about a black woman and a man who is a member of the white knights of the KKK. I mean…first of all…why would she want to be with him. And secondly… even if he did love her and they did get together- because there are plenty of interracial relationships where one partner remains racist- a person’s racism is not fixed by love? I mean, we see evidence of this all the time. “i have black friends so i cant be racist” “I have a black boyfriend so i cant be racist.” and it’s like…nah, you can still be racist. I mean, to make a better comparison, since one to race in america isn’t exactly right, like…a witch in scotland in the 16th century would not be falling in love with a man who had tried to burn her at the stake. And that’t not a story I want to read. I want to read about the witch falling for another witch. Or the man who frees her. Or LIKE ANYONE ELSE EXCPET FOR THE MAN WHO WANTS TO BURN HER AT THE STAKE.

I mean…I don’t buy a love story between a slave trader and the woman he imprisoned on his ship. At least not the way that Leigh has done it. (this arc, can actually work, and the winner’s curse does a good job of dismantling the master/slave love arc and destroying colonialism). I mean I get that we want to believe that love transcends all boundaries but…it….does not. I mean it just doesn’t work like this in the real world? In the real world you don’t forgive the person who was responsible for selling you into slavery. That Nina somehow manages to is…strange. I mean…I get that she turns him in but…her guilt over it baffles me. It makes sense given the love narrative Bardugo sets up but…also…she just could have not done this arc at all and I think the books would be better tbh.

I know that Bardugo doesn’t attempt to solve his racism easily, I understand that it’s slow but…I just don’t buy it. I don’t. And I don’t think that Nina should have to go to Fjerda and change all the bigots’ minds. That’s kinda…fucked. It’s like…can we not expect marginalized people to be responsible for advocacy all on their own? How about some allyship? And I understand that this is what is meant to happen- they are supposed to go to Fjerda together. But then he dies! And she plans to go alone! Like wtf?? Who will help her? Who will protect her? Who will introduce her into Fjerdian society? I mean the positive aspect of their relationship to me was that he ended up becoming an ally. Regardless of if I feel like the relationship and his character arc are realistic or not (they’re not), I still was clinging to Matthias’s allyship. And how great it was that they were going to save the world together. How lovely it would be for the marginalized character to not have go do everything on her own. Because, I mean, it’s not like we haven’t seen evidence irl in america of how white power will never be overthrown unless white people are fighting for black equality as well or anything. It’s essential that ppl in power rally for marginalized groups and I thought thats where Leigh was going…

And then womp womp.

Just kidding, Lucia, Matthias died and Nina is now going to venture off into Fjerda- where they basically capture Grisha on sight, all by her lonesome. fucking sure. sure. That sounds exactly like what we needed.

I guess in the end, I am not one to put stock in “be nice to racists and welcome them and maybe they will change their minds.” In my experience, racists are racists regardless of how many kind muslims/immigrants/black americans they have met. And homophobes are homophobes no matter how funny they might think Ellen is. And like, you should be able to treat other human beings with respect regardless of skin color or whatever else. How about…racists just not be racist etc etc etc

Honestly I’m v open to ppl talking with me about this because my reading could be wrong. I thought about it for a while because i don’t want to be the person who picks things apart for no reason and is just looking for a fault. And I understand the allure of making two people at odds fall in love. But Leigh doesn’t handle it that well considering that he you know, dies. Sure, there’s symbolism in the fact that a fellow druskelle kills him- like his own past and past racism fucking him over but…I fail to see how it adds much to the story.

Titel: We never change// Harry Styles imagine

Summary: Harry realizes his relationship with Y/N will never change.  ( Based on the song: ‘ We never change’ by Coldplay)

Warnings: crying, break up

Masterlist  ( only laptop)

I want to live life and never be cruel.

And I want to live life and be good to you.

And I want to fly and never come down.

When Harry woke up, he saw a girl laying next to him. Y/N. Harry couldn’t remember what happened last night, but he could see that Y/N’s eyes were still red and puffy from the cries last night. Harry sighed and threw his head back in the pillow. He was mad, mostly on himself. He wanted to be good for Y/N because she deserved it so much. She was such a sweet girl, who could have the world. Instead, she chose for Harry. Why him? So many boys were staring at her when the couple went to the mall, she always got so much attention. Harry totally didn’t deserve Y/N, but he should be happy and grateful that she chose him. But yet, here she was, crying herself to sleep.

We never change, do we?

No, no.

We never learn, do we?

So I want to live in a wooden house.

When Y/N woke up, Harry already left her side. She closed her eyes again, not used to the sunlight shining through the window. She also remembered last night; it was horrible. They were fighting once again, about some old rumour of Harry cheating. It seemed to be real and Y/N really thought it was real. But it wasn’t, something Y/N realized after the fight. Harry wasn’t right though, he called her some things Y/N hated. But she got used to it, every week there was a fight and it always was about the same things: Cheating, lying and the fame of Harry. Y/N walked to the kitchen, where a plate on the counter stood. It was a simple breakfast, just a sandwich with juice. Harry sat at the table, eating his own breakfast. ‘ Good morning, Harry’ You said. ‘ Good morning, Y/N. Slept well?’ Harry said. He was smiling and you gladly smiled back. ‘ Not really. Couldn’t stop thinking about yesterday’ You admitted, looking away from Harry.   ‘ We will never learn’ He muttered, not expecting an answer from you. You felt the tears coming up but didn’t let them roll. You had cried enough.

We never change, do we?

We never learn, do we?

‘ We should stop this’ You muttered when Harry tried to kiss you. Harry looked at you confusedly. ‘ We never learn from our fights, we never change our behaviour, we do nothing to fix this mess of a relationship. I don’t want to cry anymore, I don’t want to have the feeling that it’s my fault. We are both stuck in this relationship, like a traffic jam. I want to live life without the hate, without feeling insecure because of all those models, I want to live life with friends around. I’m feeling like a prisoner, not a happy girlfriend anymore’   You explained, feeling relieved that you feeling told your feelings to Harry. Meanwhile, Harry was speechless. He didn’t know what to say, but what he did know was that you were telling the truth. Everything you said was right; This was a mess of a relationship that can’t be fixed. This relationship was over, you both needed space from each other, maybe forever. You both needed time to think and maybe then, everyone will work out again. So Harry respected your decision because he felt the same. He understood you. ‘ I understand, completely.
