Anon asked “Can you do a Bucky Smut fic where the reader just moved back to town and is reunited with Bucky after not seeing each other for a long time and they’re old best friends and always had feelings for each other they just never acted on them because they were scared. Sorry is that doesn’t make sense!! You’re literally the only author that makes the best smut stories ever because you use gifs with them😂🙈”

A/N: This was fun to write considering a had a similar thing happen…apart from the sex part. Let me know if you want to be tagged here.

fma fic idea:

ed literally CAN NOT deal with his brother stuck in a suit of armor for years and years it hurts him more than losing his limbs and automail ever could. he wishes over and over again that he could give his body to al - then he goes  LIGHTBULB and so during that year that he’s recovering he studies and studies and they all think it’s to get al’s body back but not quite.

and like 6 months in he’s like okay i think ive figured it out and he can kinda stand and walk around and what not so he’s like al cmere im going to try something. they’re all like ????? and ed tugs down his pants and on his hip is a scar. a very familiar, precise scar. ed had carved al’s seal into his flesh then let it heal and done it again again until it had scarred just like he’d wanted it to. winry screams and threatens to strangle him and ed is like ‘pls stop’ and al gets it then and if he could cry he would and he asks ed over and over again if he’s sure and ed just tells him to shut up, claps his hands together and presses them to al’s seal

then next thing he knows he’s staring down at himself and the first thing he says is “i am short” and is immediately horrified and the first thing al does is throw himself down on the ground to feel grass between his fingers and hugs winry to feel skin and now he is crying because he can

and so this is how they survive this, by sharing ed’s body between them. ed tried to say it should be 50/50 but al refused so ed is in his own body for 2 weeks then al is in it for 1 week and they don’t tell anyone because they’re not insane. and when ed’s sleeping weird places or eating a ton it’s actually usually al. their wildly different personalities would be a problem, except that they’re still children and like twins who switch places they get a giant kick out of it. al loves pretending to be loud and angry and having a fly away temper and it’s all ed can do to go chasing after al shouting ‘brother!’ trying to act disapproving but inside he is laughing so damn much

there’s no negative effects, nothing goes wrong. they don’t knows this, but it’s actually helping, because their souls gain a stronger connection and ed’s body spends a whole lot more time sleeping and eating then it would otherwise so al’s body is actually getting a reasonable-ish about of nutrients and sleep behind the gate. also every time ed switches their souls it’s like he’s renewing the seal so al’s soul never gets loose and isn’t going to be rejected form the armor.

then al remembers the gate and can do hands free alchemy, which is awesome, because now they can go into battle in each other’s bodies when before they always needed to hastily switch back otherwise people would start asking questions. it becomes something so easy and natural between them, and more than once ed’s been up late studying with his eyelids drooping, exhausted past the point of reason but unwilling to stop. and he just goes ‘al, come here, sleep for me so i can finish this book’ an al loves sleeping so he’s like ‘fuck yeah’

al doesn’t need to make a list of things to eat and experiences to do because he gets to experience them all, it’s just you know, keeping up a timeshare of his brother’s body isn’t realistic and he’d really like his own back, thanks.

and they don’t have secrets, obviously, can’t when they spend half the time running around in the other’s body. except ed kind of develops a crush on mustang and roy’s confused with all these mixed signals?? because sometimes ed looks at him like he wants to eat him and other times there’s nothing???? but one day ed says screw this and he and roy end up making out and all that and kinda sort of start a relationship ish and ed means to tell al, he does, he just can’t bring himself too. so it’s 2 weeks of dating roy and he switches their bodies, and still hasn’t told him. they’re spending the day away from base so ed doesn’t worry about it, is like okay, i’ll tell al tomorrow this is not a big deal i can handle this

except they’re, i don’t know, in the market or the library or something and roy sees ed is and internally like ed! ededed! <3 <3 <3 but he has to pretend to be cool so he corners ed and kisses him and is shocked and hurt when ed pushes him away and ed just stares at him for a long moment before howling “oh my GOD you and brother are DATING?”

and they don’t call roy a genius for nothing so he’s like “…. alphonse?” and ed goes really pale and and then al’s armour rounds the corner like ‘brother! what’s wrong i heard you yell - “ and he sees them and goes “oh shit” and roy is like “EDWARD???”

and it’s like fuck, after about 5 years of playing this game they’ve been caught. and so roy drags them back to the office and everyone gathers’ round while they explain and eds like ‘you should have just gone along with it al, jeez’

‘gone along with it?’ al in ed’s body screams, ‘the COLONEL KISSED ME’ and then he goes kinda pale and whispers ‘my first kiss was the colonel so unfair i don’t even like boys’

and havoc, breda, and maes take this opportunity to excuse themselves so they can die laughing in the hallway while ed and roy look kinda embarassed and riza just. regrets everything. why is this idiotic pyromaniac her best friend again???

and things settle down and continue on and roy is very, very careful about who’s in ed’s body when in the future. and al eventually gets his body back and it’s not sickly and dying its just kind of underfed, so this isn’t too bad. and the very first thing he does is tacklE winry to the ground and they lock themselves in her room for like four hours because timeshare of ed’s body or not none of them had felt comfortable with them having sex with al in his body, and winry even had to close her eyes when they’d kissed.

and their souls have mingled so much that al and ed are almost telepathic with each other which they think is the coolsest thing ever and literally everyone else despises because they only abuse their new powers to be brats, because that’s what the do, obviously

and everyone lives happily ever after the end

“You sure you’re gonna be ok with me gone?” Jensen asked for the 500th time. He was packing his bag to leave for PhoenixCon and while you didn’t really want him to go you knew he couldn’t disappoint the fans to stay behind with you.

“Yeah, it’ll be fine.” You reassured, wrapping your arms around him from behind and resting your head against his shoulder. “Emma will be here and Gen is gonna come by when Emma has to work so I’m pretty much covered. Plus, the dogs will keep me company.” You glanced over at Oscar and Icarus, who were both staring at you intently.

Jensen spun in your arms and put his arms around your neck, checking your face to see if you were lying. “Sorry the doctor said you couldn’t go. I really thought she’d say yes. You’re doing so well.”

“Yeah. Me too.” You sighed. “Plus, I’ve been getting a lot of people asking me on Twitter and stuff about singing since I did it in Rome. I was actually kinda hoping I’d get to do it again…”

“Wait.” Jensen stopped and blinked, pulling away from you while he continued to pack his clothes. “You actually…were planning on singing with me? Like on stage?”

When Cassian woke up, he was lying on his back. His upper arms were bound tightly to his sides, completely immobile from the elbow up.

“How are you feeling?” Azriel said.

“Like I’m flying high.” Azriel frowned and crossed his arms. But Cassian just stared, transfixed, by the blue of his siphons as they pulsed and swirled and left a stream of sparkling blue across the air like a shooting star across the sky. After a moment, Cassian said, “Come on. That’s funny.”

“It’s self-deprecating.”

“If we can’t laugh at my pain, then what else do you suggest we do at it?” Azriel’s throat bobbed as he pushed off the wall to stand at the foot of the bed. His shadows wafted and ebbed and flowed and grew and shrunk and looked like the delicate tendrils of Nesta’s hair and—

“Thirteen, twelve, eleven…”

The house was uncharacteristically loud for a Thursday night, with its rooms full of elegantly dressed people and the delicate clinking of champagne glasses mixing with bubbling laughter and the soft sound of a piano playing somewhere in the living room.

Only the sound of the children’s voices stood out, along with the thud of their steps as they ran through the house in order to find a hiding spot, little feet running over the hardwood floor.

“Ten, nine, eight…”

You were running out of time.

Magic Lessons

In which Nesta gets rip-roaring drunk.  Mildly NSFW.  There’s a small shout-out to Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels trilogy too.  Makes more sense if you read the rest first:  1  2  2.5  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10  11

Nesta scanned the library shelves.  She had about half an hour before she needed to meet with Amren, and wanted to see if there were any books on life magic.  Months earlier, she had read what limited information there was on death magic, but none of it had felt like what she had called up that day against the King.  Hopefully, she had just been searching for the wrong thing, but she’d spent an hour already with no luck at all.  There were stacks of books on Illyrian killing power, and many more on the more generic magics like managing pocket realms and winnowing.  None of which she had tried yet.  Damn.  The silent librarian who escorted her turned into a different set of shelves, pulled two volumes down, and handed them to her.  She carried them to one of the desks that lined the circular walls and flipped one open.  It was a dissertation on magical theory, reviewing the concept of magic as manipulation of molecules.  She didn’t even know what that meant, but it sounded like it might be informative.  The second book opened to a gruesome picture of a fae being misted.  She’d seen enough of that in person during the war, and it had never called to her power.  Closing that one, she lifted the first and turned to the librarian.  “Can I borrow this?”  The female shook her head, and pointed to the desk, then to Nesta.  Okay, then, she could leave it here and come to read it.  She set it back down, nodded her thanks and left, realizing as she climbed that she could have verbally thanked the librarian; Clotho was mute, not deaf.  Oh well.

Amren had suggested they meet on the roof; it was vacant when Nesta emerged from the House of Wind so she settled into one of the chairs.  Cassian had taken Feyre with him to train with Brisa again, so they wouldn’t be working out up there.  Her stomach ached from his absence.  Or from the memories of the day before.  She still felt a twinge of pain at how close she came to plucking his life before she remembered him after returning to her body.  Though he hadn’t been nearly as disturbed by the fact she’d nearly killed him as by the idea that she might have stayed in the abyss.  Their bond vibrated, and she realized she was sending her thoughts down it unawares.  She opened her pathetic, untrained barrier to him and he sent back an image of their return to the apartment the night before.  Her lips curled into a smile as she recalled flying back from the townhouse chasing the setting sun, all the colors more vibrant  than she had ever noticed before, his arms warm and hard around her, the wind tickling her skin, setting her into a state of arousal yet again.  Cassian must have felt it too, because as soon as he landed he lay her down on the chaise in the rooftop garden and they didn’t bother to fully undress before they were tangled with each other again, his wings flared to hide them from any eyes flying overhead.  Then he had carried her down the stairs, ignoring her laughing protests, mouth claiming hers as he gently set her on her feet.  It felt strange, to return to their apartment after so much had changed and realize they had been gone less than twelve hours.  She had been a little worried that Willow would reject or fear her, but the half-grown cat had greeted her as enthusiastically as ever, whole body vibrating with the force of her purr.  Then this morning, they had lingered in bed far past his usual sunrise awakening.

The sound of a throat clearing interrupted her reverie, and she looked up to see Amren glaring at her.  “Are you ready to work, or am I going to have to deal with newly-mated nonsense all day?”

Nesta bristled a little at the tone, but replied, “Yes” as flatly as she could manage.

The tiny female’s eyes narrowed.  “Yes to which one?”

“You pick,” Nesta replied, but got to her feet.  “What’s the plan?”

Amren led her over to the door, where she had set a box of plants.  “We need to figure out what your magic affects, and you need to practice control.”

Nesta looked down at the box, wondering if Elain would be mad at her if she destroyed a bunch of plants.  Or if she was right, and it was life magic she possessed, could she turn the roof into a jungle if she pushed her power the other way?  “I found a book,” she said, noticing the crossing of Amren’s arms at the delay, “that talks about magic as manipulating molecules?  I don’t really understand what that means, but it sounded brilliant…” She broke off as she realized Amren actually looked a little embarrassed.  Her expression changed to bored contempt as soon as she noticed Nesta’s attention.  Hmm.  Perhaps the ancient female had more talents than she knew, if she was writing books.  Though after thousands of years of existence, she supposed writing was just another thing to do.

Amren waved a hand dismissively.  “That’s all well and good to read on your own time.  Maybe it’ll help, if you can actually understand it.  For now, grab a plant and sit down.”  Selecting the ugliest plant of the group, Nesta sat at the little painted iron table.  “Close your eyes.”  She obeyed.  “Now, remember what you felt yesterday when you returned and everything was fresh.  Breathe in, and let the power flow through you.  Then breathe out, and reach out with it.  Don’t do anything with it, just feel.”

But Nesta didn’t have to reach out.  As soon as she thought of the power, she could feel Amren’s life force flowing, so close to her.  The people in the House of Wind behind her as well, servants and librarians and the couple of scholars who had been admitted.  She directed her focus to the plant in front of her, but it may as well have been made of the same iron as the table; she couldn’t feel it.  Minutes passed, and finally she felt a tiny flicker from the plant.  It felt clean, content.  Simple.  And it was…moving.  She opened her eyes and focused on the spot of movement.  A small bug was crawling along a leaf.  “I can’t feel the plant,” she said, “but I can feel the bug.”

“Can you manipulate its life force?”

Nesta shook her head.  “I don’t want to kill it.”

“What?” Amren’s tone was incredulous.  “You don’t want to kill the bug?”

“It’s cute.  And it’s not going to hurt anyone.”

There was a long enough pause that Nesta looked up.  Amren was shaking her head.  “The girl who beheaded the King of Hybern doesn’t want to hurt a bug because it’s cute.”

She gestured at it.  “Look, it’s got all those little spots on its shell.  And the little antennae, they’re…waving.  It doesn’t mean any harm.”

Amren’s expression shifted from incredulous to intensely focused.  “Can you sense its intent?”

Nesta shrugged.  “I don’t know, it just sounds…feels…benign.”

“Have you been able to sense people’s intentions before?”

“I’ve never really tried.  I mean, I can feel Cassian’s but, you know, the bond.  And he’s remarkably easy to read even without it.”

“Try with me.”

Pursing her lips, Nesta shifted the focus of her power to Amren and just sat for a moment, listening to the complex force flowing under that fair skin.  “You’re…sharp, for lack of a better word,” she said, finally.  “That’s not an intention, but I don’t know how else to describe it.”

“Do you remember how the King felt?” Amren asked softly, leaning in, silver eyes fixed on the swirling gray-blue.

“No,” Nesta replied automatically, then paused to remember.  She called up the feel of the King when he sat on that throne of bones, conducting the mindless members of his court, thriving on the dismay of his prisoners, on the pain.  Then, when he was readying that Cauldron blast, she had been able to feel his gleeful anticipation at the destruction it would wreak, like a staccato beat.  She had thought it was the Cauldron she had felt, but the Cauldron did not have emotions, did not have an opinion about anything outside of itself.  Finally, as he had appeared holding her father prisoner, the off-notes that had sounded - she had known he would kill him, regardless of what she did.  When she spoke again her voice was trance-like.  “Yes.  He was dissonant, he wanted to disrupt all the threads.  After he died, the chords got more…harmonious.  But then the Cauldron was broken, and you and Rhys…”  She couldn’t find words for the cacophony that had erupted, hadn’t been able to differentiate between emotion and power at all at that time.

“And the queens?”  The words were barely more than a whisper.

Nesta didn’t move or speak for a full minute before shaking her head.  “No, I can’t remember.  They felt wrong, but I don’t know that wasn’t just because they were so obviously uninterested in helping us.”

They sat in silence for a few minutes, Nesta watching the bug delicately nibbling a leaf, still listening to its tiny life force humming.  There was something soothing about it.

“Well, we know you can’t feel plants and won’t kill bugs,” Amren finally said drily.  “Is there a creature you’re willing to practice on?  Other than Cassian, of course.”

Nesta shivered at the reminder of her near-disaster the day before.  “I don’t know, maybe Elain can point out some pests or something.”

Amren’s mouth twisted.  “She and her mate went back to the Dawn Court once it was clear you were okay, so we’ll have to wait a bit if you’re going to insist on that.”  Nesta had forgotten Elain and Lucien were on their honeymoon.  She wondered briefly why they had come back, how they had known, but Elain must have seen it and asked to return.  Sweet Elain.  She hadn’t thanked her, or Feyre for that matter.  Her history was filled with unspoken gratitude.

They worked for another hour on pinpointing and describing individual life forces.  She could easily reach about halfway across the city, but selecting an individual to follow among the crowds was challenging.  And exhausting.  By the time Mor came to bring them to dinner, Nesta was starving and had a headache brewing between her eyes.  The three walked towards the dining room.  Mor glanced at her out of the side of her eye.  “Looks like I miss all the fun,” she said casually.

Nesta snorted.  “Well, I would’ve issued you a formal invitation to witness my trauma, but I just don’t like you.”

Mor grinned, golden brown eyes glimmering with humor.  “Given that you apparently came out of wherever the hell you were in a killing rage, I think I’m grateful.”

“Now, now, I wouldn’t go into a killing rage without you to inspire me.  I was just a little confused.”

“Remind me to always be crystal clear with you, then.”  They slid into their seats at the table, the first to arrive.  Mor poured them each a glass of wine.  “I’ll tell you what, though,” she said, more seriously, “I felt you from here.  When you surged.  As soon as I regained my breath I winnowed to the townhouse, but I was told to let you and Cassian be and Feyre promptly dragged me right back here.  You’ve got some wicked power there, I’ve never felt anything quite like it.”

“I still think you should talk to Rhysand,” Amren interjected.  “He may be able to help.”

The High Lord appeared then as if summoned, Azriel a step behind him.  “What can I help with?”

“Managing your sister-in-law’s terrifying power,” Mor chirped, her bright tone at distinct odds with the words.

Rhys inclined his head towards Nesta as he took his seat.  “I’d be happy to.”  He snapped his fingers and food appeared on the table.  “Feyre and Cassian should be here shortly.  She said to get started without them.”

Mor frowned.  “Everything okay?”

Rhys chuckled and even Azriel gave a dry smile.  “Yes, just something has evidently gotten under Cassian’s skin and he needs to blow off some steam before appearing in polite company, apparently.”

Nesta and Mor looked at each other, then back at Rhys.  “Where exactly is the polite company?” Nesta inquired mildly.

“That is a very good question,” Feyre answered, entering the hall.  Cassian prowled behind her, expression stormy.  She dropped a kiss on Rhys’s cheek before slipping into the seat next to him.  Cassian threw himself onto his chair, arms crossed, and Nesta pressed his knee with her own.  He gave her an apologetic grimace that was probably intended to be a smile and she bit her lip to keep from laughing.  Glancing at Feyre did not help her maintain her composure, as her sister’s own lips were twitching.  Whatever had been gotten Cassian riled was clearly not of any dire nature.  Everyone watched him quietly for a moment while he chewed on his lip.

He finally erupted.  “I’m going to wallop her!” His hand slammed onto his table.

“Who?” Mor and Amren chorused, while Nesta asked, “Sabine?”

“Yes!”  He fumed silently for another moment before going on.  “She had the balls to ask me if I was going to invite her father to our mating ceremony.  Of course, she called him our father.  Why the hell is she even thinking about the ceremony?  How does she even know?  You’ve been able to feel the bond for all of a day.”

Azriel cleared his throat and said quietly, “Well, brother, you’ve been engaged for a few weeks now.”

Cassian glared at him.  “She had already asked about the wedding, just assuming she’d be part of it.  Now she’s trying to shove into the mating ceremony that Nesta and I haven’t even had a chance to discuss.”

Mor raised a hand.  “Um, I may have told Brisa about the events yesterday, and I guess she could have told Sabine.”

The warrior whirled to her.  “What?  Why?  When?”

“I ran into her at Rita’s last night,” she said, shrugging.  “She asked me if anything exciting was going on.  I didn’t realize it was a secret, I’m sorry.”

His brow furrowed and jaw clenched as he looked at Mor, anger darkening his eyes.  Nesta wanted to kiss the little wrinkles between those eyes, that muscle feathering in his cheek, but settled for brushing his hand with hers and murmuring, “It’s okay, Cass.  Everyone was going to learn eventually.”

After a brief moment he glanced at Nesta, then took a breath and settled back into his chair, turning his attention to the food.  Tension still rolled off of him, but he did a passable job of acting normal as they ate and discussed the growing rift the death of the eldest mortal queen had caused on the Continent, and what that might mean for the movement going forward.  When the meal was finally over, and Rhys had agreed to join Nesta and Amren the next day, Nesta took Cassian’s proffered arm and they walked in silence to the roof.  “Can we go out?” he asked abruptly as he scooped her into his arms.

“Sure, if you want.”  So much for going home and finding inventive ways to relieve his tension, but they hadn’t gone dancing in a while, and dancing was often a good source of inspiration.

*****

They landed at the top of a hill unfamiliar to Nesta.  Cassian strode down the darkening street, fast enough Nesta nearly had to jog to catch up.  She took his hand and he slowed, squeezing hers in a gentle apology.  “Why does it bother you so much?” Nesta asked.  “They don’t mean any harm.”

He stopped abruptly and turned to her, his free hand moving to her cheek.  “Because you and I haven’t even had a chance to talk about this, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let them push you into something you don’t want.”

“Oh.  So it’s not that you don’t…want…all of this?”

He laughed, loud and long, before taking her face between his hands and answering, “I want nothing more than to be with you for the rest of time.  I’d be mated or married or whatever you want tomorrow if we could arrange it.  But if we let Sabine and Mor and everyone take over, we’ll end up having half the Night Court at the ceremony.”  Nesta blanched at that idea, and there was a smile in his voice as he continued, “And since I highly doubt that’s what you want, I’m going to fight like hell to prevent it.”  He kissed her thoroughly, and a couple of kids on the street whooped.  “Now let’s go dance.”

The club was busy, almost as jam-packed as Rita’s always was, the music just as demanding.  “Let’s grab a drink first,” Cassian said in her ear as he steered her towards a booth.  Leaving her there with a kiss to her hair, he headed towards the bar.

“Cass!”

Nesta’s head snapped up at the unfamiliar voice, and she glanced at him where he had stopped, halfway across the floor.  She noted the stiffening of his posture, the subtle tightening of his hands into fists, as a tall, curvy female with large dark eyes and full lips approached.  “Hello, Tamirah,” he said warily.

“It’s been ages since I saw you last,” she replied brightly, “I was wondering when you’d come seek me out.”

“I’m not…” he started, then stopped, collecting himself.  “I’m with someone.”

She laughed, a high, fluttering sound.  “I heard you had someone sharing your bed,” she said, “but that never stopped you before.”

“This is different,” he said warmly.

Nesta smiled internally at that warmth, though her impassive mask did not shift.  She pretended to be watching the dancers as his eyes flicked to her, then felt Tamirah’s attention shift to her as well.  “Oh, she is lovely, though I heard she’s colder than ice.  Well she’d be welcome to join us, you know I’m always up for that.  And I know you’ve always enjoyed having multiple females at once as well.”  Nesta could feel his flinch down the bond.  The tall female moved as if to run a hand over his chest but he snarled at her, viciously enough that all the nearby dancers stopped and stared.  She took an involuntary step backwards, then laughed again to cover her confusion.  The others shuffled away before resuming their dance, continuing to glance nervously at the warrior.

“You know,” she drawled, cocking her head to the side as she studied Nesta, who still pretended her attention lay elsewhere, “she looks just like the High Lady.”  Her eyes moved back to Cassian, a nasty smile playing over her lips.  “There was a rumor that you and Feyre had a fling before the High Lord claimed her.”  Cassian’s Siphons flared a little, but Tamirah didn’t notice the brief flash of red light.  “She certainly has a taste for powerful males, doesn’t she.  First the Spring Court lord, then you, then Rhysand…I know you and the High Lord are close as brothers, but I guess he wasn’t willing to share.  Looks like you found your own version to play with.”

Nesta had nearly leaped from her seat at the reference to Feyre, but on feeling Cassian’s anger flare through the bond she settled back to see how he would handle it.  There was nothing of his usual warmth and kindness in his face; no, he looked truly menacing as he stepped towards Tamirah, towering over her.  “If you ever - EVER - insult our High Lady again I will break your fucking neck,” he said, voice low but all the more threatening for it.  “It just so happens that Nesta is Feyre’s sister.  And my mate.  So do me a favor, Tamirah.  Since you love to spread rumors, tell everyone you know that I am mated, and to be married, and completely in love with the High Lady’s sister.  And get the hell out of my face.”

Tamirah obeyed, scurrying for the door with real fear in her face.  Nesta couldn’t help it, she reached a tendril of power out to her.  The tall female’s life force was limp, held together by thousands of tiny threads that spread out to others in a huge fragile web.  There were no thicker threads to anchor her, no strong connections to anyone.  Nesta couldn’t be angry at her, she just felt…sorry.  Even when she had herself barricaded behind ice, Feyre and Elain had always kept their bonds strong and now she was tethered to so many.  This female had no one really, just the illusion of a lot of someones.

A tug from one of Nesta’s someones drew her focus back to Cassian.  He was watching her, expression wary and a hint of sadness in his eyes, and he turned away as she met his gaze.  She rose and eased through the crowd which had encroached upon Cassian again, until she was standing next to him, lightly brushing his arm with her shoulder.  He just looked down at her, and there was something in his face she couldn’t read, a void where the humor usually underlay everything else.  She ran a questioning internal finger down the bond and it came to her - shame.  Her chest ached, and she searched for what to say to let him know she understood, that she didn’t care about anyone he’d let into his life or his bed before her.

“So, I take it she won’t be sending us a Solstice card?”  His lips twitched but he didn’t reply, and the flash of humor didn’t reach his eyes.  She tried again.  “We can seat her next to Sabine’s father at the ceremony.  I bet they’d hit it off.”  A low growl but a slight thaw.  “I’ve always wondered what the role of the third person was in a multi-partner situation.  It sounds like she’s an expert.  Maybe I should go ask her for information.  Maybe she’s written a book.”  Now he was struggling not to laugh, and she nudged him with her shoulder.  “I never thought you were celibate for five hundred years.”

He sighed and rubbed his hands over his face.  “I know, it’s just…running into her with you here…”

“Well,” she said, tone practical, “I imagine if we wanted to avoid all of your former lovers we could never leave the apartment.”

He started to protest, but paused.  “Okay, you may have a point.”

“And as long as I’m the only one around at present-”

“You are.”

“- then I don’t care.”  He wrapped his arms around her then, pressing her into his chest and kissing her temple before resting his chin on her head.  She felt the tension he’d been vibrating with leave him.  Another question flitted through her, but now was not the time to ask it.  She tugged him towards the bar.  While they waited for the attention of one the bartenders, she read the various signs that listed the different drinks.

“What’s a Gravedigger?” she asked.

Cassian laughed.  “Trouble in a glass.”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s some specialty cocktail they make.  I had two once and it put me completely under the table, Az had to drag me home.”  He laughed again at the memory.

“I want to try one.”

“No you don’t.”

Her eyes flashed.  “Are you telling me what I can have?”

“Of course not,” he said, raising his hands in surrender.  “You want a Gravedigger, that’s fine, I can carry you home.  But don’t blame me in the morning.”  The female bartender turned to them then, and Cassian raised his eyebrows at Nesta.  She nodded.  “I’ll have a brown ale,” he said, “and the she’ll have a Gravedigger.  And a glass of water.”  The golden-haired bartender was grinning, her exotic face alight with humor as she returned with the drinks.  Nesta took a cautious sip of hers.  It didn’t burn as she expected, but instead a gentle warmth flowed through her.  She rolled a second sip on her tongue, savoring the way the sweetness of fruit and honey was balanced by the slight sharpness of the alcohol.  A third sip and she felt strong, bold.  What had Cassian been worrying about?  She drank the rest down and then grabbed his hand and dragged him out onto the dance floor.

They danced forever, Nesta surrendering herself completely to the music, the pulse of the crowd, all those bright lives moving around her, with her.  The life force flowed through all, she was everyone and everyone was her.  There was no way of knowing how much time had passed, time really didn’t mean anything anyway, it was just a construct after all, when strong arms wrapped around her, pulling her away from the small group she had joined.  She swayed slightly and her back hit against something warm and solid.  She tilted her head back and found herself looking up a vaguely familiar pair of nostrils.  Her focus shifted and there were amused hazel eyes behind those nostrils.  She spent a moment going back and forth between nostrils and eyes.  Odd that she could control that.  Something tickled her face and she reached a hand up to brush it away, but it wasn’t the light feather she was expecting.  Instead her hand smacked the face above hers, one finger going into an eye.  Ew.  There was a deep grunt that reverberated through her back, and the face above hers pulled back.  Now she could see a mouth above a strong chin, and black hair curving down around it.  “Must you poke my eye out, love?” a familiar voice asked.

“Is she okay?” came a husky female voice from nearby.  Nesta turned towards the sound and saw a blur of golden hair surrounding sapphire-colored eyes in a narrow pink oval.  She blinked, and the blur coalesced into a face with sharp, exotic features.

“I think so,” replied the voice behind her.  “I guess I better bring her home though.  I don’t know what you put in that shit, but Mother above…”

There was a warm laugh.  “Need help?”

“No thanks.”  The face above her swung from side to side, making her dizzy, and she felt herself being hoisted off the ground.  She was floating, suspended, and she stretched her arms over her head, bending backwards over the two hard beams that held her up.  Other hands brushed hers, and there was a murmuring as she passed weightlessly through the crowd.  Then they were outside, the cool air bracing.  She gulped it down like water and felt her head clear a little.  She knew these arms that held her.

“Cassian?” she asked.

“Yes, love?” he rumbled, as something dark spread behind him.  His wings.

“I love you, Cassian,” she said, tears starting in her eyes.  How had she never really realized this?  How deep this went?  How it affected every part of her?

“That’s a relief,” he replied, then kissed her forehead and launched them into the sky.

The cold air nipped at her skin and tore at her hair as they sailed over the city.  “We’re flying!” she shouted.

“Mother’s tits, Nesta, we fly every day.”

“But we’re really flying!  Don’t you know how…how…what a miracle that is?”

His whole body vibrated and she grabbed at his shoulders in case they should fall.  What was wrong with him?  Was he having some sort of fit?  They touched down on a roof and he set her gently down before bending over, howling with laughter.  She didn’t know what was so funny, so she just waited.  Finally, he regained control and straightened.  “Come on, love,” he said, scooping her up again, “let’s get you to bed.”

The apartment was dark as he kicked open the door, and there was a patter of tiny feet and then a small squeak, then lights flared to reveal the fluffy gray cat.  “Willow,” Nesta said, tears welling again.  “Willow, I missed you, kitty.  I love you.”

Cassian carried her down the hall with the cat trotting behind and set her carefully on the bed then knelt to remove her shoes.  She sat watching him, the way the hair had escaped from its tie to fall across his cheekbone, his fingers undoing the straps of her shoes.  He pulled her to her feet and deftly flipped back the bedcover, then began unbuttoning her dress.  She pushed at him.  “I shouldn’t,” she said, and the words sounded uncomfortably loud in her ears.  “I have a mate.”

“Yes, love, you do.  Me,” he replied, continuing to gently undress her.  Desire flared through her at the scrape of his fingers against her bare shoulders as he eased the dress down.  He picked her up and lay her down on the bed, then tucked the covers around her.  She grabbed his shirt when he tried to turn away, and tugged him down so his face was close to hers.

“I want…” she couldn’t think of what she was going to say.  He waited patiently until she remembered.  “I want you to fuck me.”

“Not tonight, sweetheart,” he said, a smile in his voice.

“But why not?”  She smacked him lightly on the shoulder.

“You’re drunk.”

“Nah, I’m not drunk.  That’s just a…” Words were really hard to find.  “An excuse.  I’m not…I’m not a child.  Don’t you want to fuck me?”

He sat on the edge of the bed, cupped the side of her face in his hand, and brushed his thumb across her cheekbone.  “Yes, love, I do.  But not like this.”  She started to protest but he pressed a gentle finger against her lips.  “If you still want me to in the morning,  I promise I will.”  He rose then and left the room before she could respond.  Clinking sounded down the hall and she could hear Willow’s excited mews.  Lights turned out in the apartment, and then Cassian came back into the bedroom and set a glass of water on her nightstand.  He shut out the lights, but she could still hear the rustle as he removed his clothes.  Good.  Once he was naked in bed she could convince him.  But first, she would just close her eyes and rest for a minute.  She felt the bed sink under his weight, then his arms wrapped around her and pulled her against him.  In just a moment, she’d begin seducing him.  She just…needed…a…little…rest…

"Why are you so annoying?" With Oikawa and his s/o? Soulmate AU with the words on the wrist and those words are on s/o's wrist.

Oikawa Tooru:

Oikawa had always been a bit insecure.
He wasn’t sure if it was due to his superiority complex or being outshined by Kageyama, or what. Although he did know one thing for sure.
Those damned words on his wrist played a huge part in all of his negative feelings. From the very moment he became literate, they haunted him. “Why are you so annoying?” they read, and the word “annoying” became the bane of his existence. As much as Oikawa wanted to meet his soulmate, he didn’t want to be seen as an abomination. The person who he was to be tied to for an eternity’s first impression of him would be “annoying”. He hated that, he hated the very image of anyone he loved deeming him obnoxious. These very words were the foundation of his facade.

As years passed on Oikawa hoped and prayed that maybe, someday, he’d wake up to find that black ink washed away and replaced with something new. Everyone around him had a nice little saying printed on them. Iwaizumi’s said, “I’ve never seen you here before.”, even Hanamaki’s was a cute little message of, “God, you’re hilarious.” No matter how hard he tried to be the image of perfection, by fate, he was always to been seen as annoying. Sometimes, he realized he should be getting a lesson out of this. Not everyone was going to find him perfect at first, not everything is going to go his way. But no, he was stubborn and everyday he enhanced his mask more and more to the point where it was covered in feathers and rhinestones and diamonds alike, fanning out to the point where you couldn’t see his real face at all. It was heavy, it was weighing him down, and god he rues the day he meets his soulmate, because there’s no guaranteeing he won’t slap them for what they’ve done.

Oikawa always stays for an extra hour or two after practice. He used to stay late in the gymnasium to actually practice as intended, but now that there was nothing to train for, his only reason for staying after was so he could finally get some time alone. Once 5:30 came and all his fangirls trickled out and his team soon followed, the coach would toss him the keys, promptly asking him to “lock up when he’s done”, and would shut the heavy titanium doors behind him. The handle would click, then Oikawa would finally be alone. He got seldom alone time at his house, his parents were home a lot more recently, and of course he loved his parents, but he just couldn’t stand them lately. If they were near him, the likelyhood of getting a paper shoved in his face was high. “University of Tokyo! Oxford! Meiji! Harvard!” they’d chant, and all this talk of bills and college and tuition was driving him absolutely mad. He thought that graduating from high school would finally lift the heavy weight off his shoulders, but just the idea of that diploma was pushing him down more. He lied down in the center of the gym, the cold wooden floor a sensation on his skin. Since 95% of the student body and staff was off campus by 5:00, Oikawa always took this chance to scream. He’d inhale, tilt his head back and scream, scream until his frustration dwindled down or his lungs began to burn, whichever came first. So today, per usual, he just screamed, the booming of his voice echoing off the walls of the gymnasium. Although, before he could reach any degree of vocal climax, the heavy titanium doors clicked open. He didn’t even bother sitting up to check who had opened the door, it was either some teacher, who would dismiss his behavior, or Iwaizumi, who would lecture him about it later on. Although, it couldn’t have been either. He heard a feminine snort, then the click of the door.
“Why are you so annoying?”
Oikawa didn’t have anytime to think, the rush of being caught unsettling his nerves.
“Deprecation my dear!” He called back, waving his arms around melodramatically. He sat up to meet his confronter, who was standing still, shocked by the doors.
“Excuse me, what?”
“What?”
“Repeat what you just said to me?”
“What?”
“No the other thing!”
“Oh… Deprecation my dear?”
The girl sighed, running a hand through her hair.
“Please be joking.”
“What?” Oikawa repeated for what seemed like the twentieth time today.
“Well…” She sighed. “First of all, I would like to say fuck you for making the last eighteen years of my life a poetic hell.”
Oikawa, who had figured he had sad ‘what’ too many times today opted for cocking his head, his eyes widening when she flashed him her wrist, his heart beating faster as his eyes scanned over the words.
“Oh god…” He mumbled, looking down at his own wrist. “And you… you said… why are you so… annoying…” Oikawa took a deep breath, letting his arm fall back to his side.
“You really wanna talk about hell, missy? Couldn’t you have said ‘hey, why’re you screaming’ or ‘hey, is something wrong’ instead of this?” He forcefully shoved his wrist in her face, his every word dripped with malice. He should be happy, but god, he couldn’t help but feel enraged. “These words turned me into a maniac. These words are why I’m stuck here screaming by myself at 6:00 at night! These words are why I’m… so annoying…” His tantrum slowly decrescendoed as he looked up at her, her eyes wide and bloodshot, her fists taut at her sides.
“Well, I’m sorry. It was really all up to fate. If it were up to me I’d say something completely different but… hey, if it makes you feel any better, every literature teacher I’ve had for the past seven years has used me as an example of poetry because of the words you said.”
“That’s not as bad as depreciation.”
“In my third year of middle school we had to do a writing prompt on my wrist.” She snorted, looking down at the words. “Who would’ve guessed that it was all over some guy screaming in a gym. I thought I’d meet you as an art student in a coffee shop.”
Oikawa couldn’t help but laugh, subconsciously taking her hand into his.
“Well… I’m Oikawa Tooru… you probably already know that…”
“Ooh, narcissist, much?” She grinned, playfully. He had known her for a minute yet he was already growing on to her sarcastic nature. “Well, I’m __ __, it’s nice to finally meet you after all these years.”
“You know, __…”
“Yeah?”
“I made a promise to myself that I would slap my soulmate once I met them because of all the shit they’ve put me through.”
“Oh?”
“I don’t want to slap you, though.”
“Damn, good. You seem like you have a lot of bottled up anger, and I’d rather you scream into the void than use me as a stress ball.”
Oikawa gaped, searching for a counter argument but settling on a sigh.
“Gosh, you’re a mean one, aren’t you?”
“No, it’s just deprecation, my dear!”

Jin had taken you to a hill. Granted, it had great views over the city, but when the small car pulled up by the grass, you began wondering if Jin had actually gone mad. The night was slightly cloudy, but every now and then the moon would appear through the mist, outlining the shapes of trees and bushes that framed the hills.

“Why have you brought us here?” Jungkook asked, jumping out the car and pulling his jacket tighter around him.

“Clear our headspace,” was all Jin said, before hopping round to the back to pull out blankets and cushions that he’d stored away. “Come on, help me get this lot out.”

As a group, you heaved mounds of blankets to an even spot that overlooked the city, not too far from the sloping edges of the hill that ran down into the trees. You had to admit, the night was colder than you’d anticipated. Settling down, you felt the grass tickle the exposed skin that wasn’t on the blanket, and the chill of the air nipped at your nose and ears.

“It’s so cold,” Taehyung complained, “I’m going to get sick! Do you want me to pass on a bug around our house? I’m all for sharing.”

You didn’t need to look at Taehyung to know he was deliberately stirring for trouble, as despite his moaning and grumbling, it wasn’t cold enough to freeze. However, Jin seemed well aware of Taehyung’s tactics and bluntly ignored him, sitting next to Jungkook with his back turned.

“If anyone wants to get anything off their chest, now’s the time,” beamed Jin, looking around at the rest of you in satisfaction. Although he was trying his best to get you all to open up, you didn’t feel like questioning Taehyung about the note you’d found in front of everyone.

“I have something,” perked up Taehyung, his soft voice carrying clearly through the quiet air.

Jin looked slightly surprised, but he tried not to let it show as he encouraged Taehyung on. “Go on then, Taehyungie. What’s bothering you?”

“You promise you won’t get annoyed with me?”

“Of course not.”

“Well, what’s really bothering me is… I’m cold.”

It took a few moments for it to sink in, but after Jin realised that there was no real problem, he leapt to his feet in anger. “Taehyung!

Taehyung was up like a shot and bolting it down the hill, with Jin hot on his heels. The yells from the younger boy could be heard for a while afterwards as he was chased around the grass, creating good entertainment for you, Namjoon, and Jungkook while you sat peacefully swathed in blankets.

“Why are you still chasing me?” you heard Taehyung bellow from somewhere out of sight.

“It’s making me feel better!” came Jin’s reply.

There was a gentle silence after the yelling stopped, where everything was still. The small wind toyed with the trees, letting them whisper. Namjoon sighed as he fidgeted around, getting comfortable on the ground and sucking in air through his teeth, staring wistfully at the horizon.

“What are you thinking about?” you asked curiously.

He shook his head, blinking his eyes quickly. “Nothing. Just… I said something today to someone.” He laughed briefly, as if he realised how silly the situation was. “Had a little argument about it, actually. I told him he was wrong, but thinking back on it, I shouldn’t have gotten so annoyed.”

“Was that your argument with Taehyung?” Jungkook interjected.

“Yeah,” he muttered regretfully. When he spotted your concerned gaze, he patted your arm. “Don’t worry, it wasn’t anything serious, I promise. Taehyung’s one of those people that doesn’t change their mind once it’s set, which I’m sure you’re aware of. I tried telling him that he wasn’t right, and it didn’t go down very well. Obviously, to him, he couldn’t understand my point of view, and I’m starting to realise why.”

“Why? Was he right, in the end?” you questioned.

“He was very wrong.”

“Still not understanding.”

“I think it’s because the way he perceives something isn’t the way I perceive it,” he explained slowly, trying to display his thoughts in a logical manner. “He’s experienced different things in his life, and learnt different things because of it. So, the way I see things is different to how he sees things. Make sense? Take Jin, for example,” he pointed, as the older boy flopped onto the grass from exhaustion, lying with Taehyung a little way in front of where you sat. “Most people see him as the leader because he’s the oldest, whilst we see him as more of a child because we’ve lived with him, so we perceive him differently. Due to experience, we have an alternate window of knowledge. When Taehyung said something untrue, I didn’t listen to him, but to him, it was true. It’s just… perception.”

You nodded along to what Namjoon was saying, while Jungkook remained unmoving, biting at the inside of his lip with his eyes focused on the grass. He was listening, but like usual, you couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

“That’s very wise of you, Namjoon,” you commented, picking at the fraying edges of the blanket.

He just shrugged in modesty, a mischievous smile on his lips. “But let me just get this clear: he’s wrong, I’m right. He just doesn’t know it yet.”

Something about the night air, the sprawling, tranquil city below, and Namjoon’s words created a strong sense of being within you. There was a complacency that wasn’t there before, and you finally understood why Jin thought a midnight view was a good idea. You understood Jin’s perception, you thought with a laugh. You shook your head, clearing your head. You never thought you’d see the day where you understood Namjoon’s existential speeches, and you weren’t about to start then.

“What did you argue about?” Jungkook asked flatly. You turned to look at him as you heard the uninterested tone, and as anticipated, his expression was vacant. Jungkook was a mystery; some things never affected him, and you were glad of his company when your life took a turn for the worse, but other times there was no way of reaching out to him. He hid behind an indifferent mask and retreated into his shell. Discomforted, you looked away.

Namjoon, however, didn’t reply, and you weren’t sure whether it was because he didn’t want to answer, or the fact that Jin was making his way up the hill, puffing slightly from the excursion.

“Taehyung’s tired and he’s given up somewhere over there,” he reported, “but he’s now warm, thank goodness. I suggest someone bring him blankets, though, before he cools down again.”

Namjoon moved across so that he was sat next to Jin, leaving you alone with Jungkook. Slowly and cautiously, you laid your hand on his arm in an attempt to gain his attention. Fortunately, Jungkook snapped out of his expressionless state to give you a bewildered glance. You smiled in comfort as he did the same, but his was a fake smile, one that hid pain and hurt. It struck you hard in the chest, seeing him so fragile and timid.

“Jungkook, what’s the matter? You seem upset.” At your words, there was a brief flicker of surprise that crossed his features, but he quickly covered it up.

“Nothing, I’m just… tired,” he lied.

“You’re shutting me off,” you said quietly. “Obviously, if it’s bothering you, I want to help. You help me all the time, and now it’s my turn.”

Jungkook breathed in heavily through his nose, before expelling the air out of his mouth. Swallowing forcefully, he met your eyes, fixing you with a determined stare that you couldn’t tear away from. His body was still tense and rigid, but his throat bobbed up and down, preparing himself to speak.

“Do you think this is going to work between us?” he asked dubiously, carefully monitoring your face for your reaction. “I really, really, want this to work, but I get a feeling that it won’t.”

Your heart rate had picked up pace, and you could feel your legs beginning to go numb at the shock. Was Jungkook beginning to have doubts, too? Although you had many moments where you questioned whether you should’ve let Jungkook into your love life, the answer would invariably be yes. He wasn’t perfect for you in many ways, but it gave you time to think about your relationship with Taehyung and you enjoyed being in Jungkook’s company. But whether it was going to work? You had no idea. And that terrified you.

“What m-makes you ask that?” you asked, stuttering slightly. Jungkook’s arm was warm under your touch, but your palms began to burn.

He just sighed and shrugged his shoulders as a noncommittal reply, trailing his eyes down to your lap. “I guess it feels like I like you more than you could ever like me,” he breathed weakly. “I’ve been readying myself ever since I first started liking you, readying myself to move on at any given moment. I didn’t want to intrude on what you and Taehyung had, but I found myself doing it anyway. I couldn’t stop myself. Here I am, exactly where I hoped I wouldn’t be.” He laughed brightly, but his eyes didn’t turn into crescents like they usually did and he laughed for too long for it to be natural.

“The reason why I didn’t want to be an official couple is because I didn’t want to hurt you like this,” you said. The rock in your stomach grew heavy with every passing word. “Jungkook, I love Taehyung, you know that. And I swore I would try to get to know you better, to see if I could love you the same. I think you’re cute and generous and talented, and I’m certain that if Taehyung wasn’t in the picture, I would’ve fancied you straightaway.”

The sadness on his face was evident now, and if your eyes weren’t deceiving you, he looked regretful. “Let’s talk about this later. Taehyung looks like he wants to talk to you.”

Jungkook pointed towards the slope of the hill, and from the light of the city, you could just about make out Taehyung’s head popping out over the ridge. When he realised he’d been spotted, his eyes widened and he disappeared again, caught in the act. It was almost comical, and you would’ve laughed if your heart wasn’t slowly being crushed from the weight of guilt.

“He’s not avoiding you like I thought he’d be,” Jungkook stated, now looking at the hand that you’d laid across his arm. “He’s practically itching to say something to you.”

“Who says that I want to speak to him?” you said defensively, knowing full well that you were aching to do exactly that.

Jungkook nudged you with his elbow, which was enough to indicate that he knew better. “Come on, you always have that lost look on your face whenever Taehyung is mentioned.”

“But Guk, I do like you. You’ve been a wonderful friend to me. I just think you’re suppressing something, and you don’t want anyone to find out.” Biting your lip shyly, you added, “You close up.”

“I’m not used to being in a relationship, or even close to it, like whatever we have,” he muttered, almost inaudibly as Jin and Namjoon’s conversation lulled into silence. “I don’t talk to people about my feelings, I never have done, so it’s new for me. You’ve had Taehyung. I find it difficult to- well, you get the idea. I can’t open up. It’s always been that way until I met… you.”

A bubble of emotion welled up in your lungs, making it hard for you to keep your breathing even. It made sense why Jungkook was so unattached to his feelings, but you couldn’t believe it. Had he really only begun to open up because of you?

“I’m still discovering things about myself every day, so thank you,” he said with a sense of finality. With a heavy heart, you returned his smile, noticing how his had become more sincere. “Now, go talk to Taehyung, before he breaks his neck trying to watch us.”

“Jungkook,” you began seriously, “I’m sorry I haven’t been everything you’d hoped I’d be. I’ll try harder, I promise. We’ll work on it, I’ll work on it. I don’t want you to ever feel like you’re not important to me, because I swear you are.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled. “We’ll talk more about this later, okay? Because Taehyung is starting to creep me out.”

“I’m going, I’m going,” you laughed. “But I want you to know that you’re not intruding on anything. How I feel is not your fault.”

You squeezed his arm gratefully, refraining yourself from hugging him. Although you felt terrible for making him feel unwanted, he’d shared more than he’d done before in his life, and you didn’t want to overdo it by making it a big deal. Instead, you watched Taehyung’s mop of hair disappear over the brow of the hill as he hid from view again.

Grabbing the thickest blanket you could find from the pile leftover, you wandered down the hill, staggering slightly as you hit hidden rabbit holes in the dark. You sincerely wished Hoseok or Yoongi was there with you, as they always had the best advice for any of your Jungkook or Taehyung problems. What would they say in this situation? They’d probably tell you to be honest, and not lie to yourself to spare someone’s feelings. But you were being honest. As much as you loved Taehyung, you definitely had a soft spot for Jungkook and wanted to give things a go, no matter how many times you worried about making the wrong choice.

Pausing on your way down, you peered over your shoulder to get a glimpse of Jungkook. He’d moved over to Namjoon and was laughing along with Jin, as if your conversation never happened. However, he caught your eye as you stared in wonder, and he quickly motioned for you to continue walking. You studied his smile to see if he was only pretending to be okay, but it seemed authentic enough. Jungkook confused you, to say the least.

Plodding down the hill, you became worried that you’d twist your ankle before you found your friend. However, you finally caught Taehyung lying flat out on the grass, still as a statue as he pretended he wasn’t there. In one quick motion, you threw the blanket over his face, mainly just to annoy him.

“I do not deserve this mistreatment,” he said, his voice muffled, jumping slightly at your sudden arrival.

Laughing, you helped him sit up and organise the blanket so that you were both huddled underneath. It was big enough so that you didn’t have to squash together, but just small enough that you could feel his arm brushing against yours.

Ahh,” he breathed, his eyes twinkling from the lights. A soft smile played across his lips, and you couldn’t help watching, captivated. It felt so long since you’d last been near him, when in fact, it hadn’t been too long since you’d decided to keep your distance.

“Can’t take your eyes off me?” he asked cheekily, and you realised he’d been watching you out of the corner of his eye.

Blushing, you turned your attention back on the buildings. “I was just looking at the food hanging off your chin.”

He didn’t move at first, but as he grew more paranoid, he subtly wiped his chin with the back of his hand, just in case. You smiled smugly as he sighed in irritation after finding nothing there.

“Why did you suddenly decide to talk to me again?” he asked, not bothering to edge into the conversation, nor to keep the curiosity out of his voice. “You seemed so set on this ‘time apart’ thing. What changed your mind? Did Jungkook say anything?”

“I’m giving Jungkook a hard time at the moment,” you admitted. “He knew that I didn’t like not talking to you. Nothing I seem to be doing is making him happy. I don’t think relationships are meant to be like that, somehow.”

“You can’t please everybody.”

“I’ve been ‘seeing him’ for barely a month, and I don’t think it’s had the best of starts, either. It’s all because of me.”

Taehyung didn’t reply, but he looked saddened by your response. There was a tension between you that you’d never felt before, as if one wrong word would cause sparks to fly. It was a foreign experience, so you were unsure as to how to continue talking. Something told you that you shouldn’t have brought up Jungkook, but it was already plaguing your mind and you couldn’t help it.

Taehyung cleared his throat, amplifying the cutting atmosphere that you’d created. Luckily, however, he changed the subject, his voice deeper than usual. “I actually thought you were going to drop me completely. I came to your house one morning to talk it through, but you weren’t in. I wanted to say that it was stupid, and that you shouldn’t listen to everything Jungkook says. Even if you had been in, I probably wouldn’t have said those things anyway. I find it hard to be mad at you sometimes.” He laughed bitterly, trying to throw off the sincerity of his statement.

“If I had dropped you, you would’ve deserved it, you know,” you muttered. “You did leave me for Yeji several times.”

“Okay, okay,” he laughed, genuinely this time. “We’ll call it even?”

“Deal.”

Again, another silence fell that was too awkward for comfort. So much had changed between you, while everything had stayed the same. You were still Y/N and Taehyung, but you were also Y/N and Taehyung with confused feelings, heartbreak, and a whole lot of misunderstanding. The boy sitting next to you was the same one who made up fibs to the teacher as to why you were running late, gave you his drink when a fly landed in yours, and was the same boy who you’d fallen head over heels in love for. But he’d changed in many ways, and so had you.

Maybe that was why you sat there, neither of you speaking, trying to conjure up the right phrases to say. But nothing sounded right. Every thought that came into your head was either too childish, too dramatic, or too offhand. You both wanted this friendship, so why was it so hard to talk?

Instead, you decided to pull out the piece of paper stuck to the underside of a desk and give it to Taehyung, letting it flutter onto his lap. He watched it fall and then stared at it for a few seconds, as if he was trying to remember where he’d seen it before.

You had no choice but to pluck up the courage and ask him. “When did you write this? Why did you write this?”

Taehyung pulled the blanket up to his chin, letting the note slide onto the grass. Hastily, you picked it up, not wanting it to be caught up by the wind.

“I put it there before we had that argument at Cupcake Corner, and after I came around your house. I always knew you were thorough and like to get jobs done properly, so I put it there knowing you’d find it eventually. I can’t say nice things to your face, so I wrote it down. You’re too ugly, you see. I change my mind about compliments when I see your face.”

You pushed him backwards roughly so that he fell with a heavy thud. He let out a small yell at the abruptness, but he giggled contentedly while lying on his back. “Don’t make me bring out those photos of you with a balloon face,” you warned.

“Yah, I had an allergic reaction!”

Rolling your eyes, you looked into the distance and waited for his laughing to die down. When he sat back up again, you continued, finally finding the right words to say. “Taehyung, I want to say thank you for giving me space to think. I meant what I said in the text, because I realise now why I missed you. The actual reason why. It’s not just to do with romantic things; it’s so much more than that. I think Jungkook is beginning to understand he’s never going to have my full attention, because you’ll always be there at the back of my mind.”

“I messed up, too,” Taehyung admitted, falling serious. “I feel like I’m always messing up when it comes to you. From everything that happened to Yeji, to not trying hard enough to keep in contact. It’s all become so stressful because I think I should’ve done this or should’ve said that, but I’ve never wanted to be that selfish friend who only wants you to myself. I keep messing up.

It was rare to see such raw vulnerability coming from Taehyung, and it made you happy to know that he was able to be so open and honest.

“You can’t have gone too far wrong, because for some reason, I still keep coming back to you.” You lightheartedly poked his cheek, watching the familiar boxy grin spread across it as a result. “Even if you do go wrong somewhere, you can always turn things around. And I think you’ve worked pretty hard to try and do that.”

“Thanks,” he smiled proudly. “Although, it has got me wondering… what do you want from the future? For us? Because I know you still like me, but you’re with Jungkook now.”

You thought about it for a while, not expecting that question to come up. “Haven’t really thought about it,” you said truthfully. You liked Jungkook, but any feelings you had for Taehyung were ten times stronger. The images of Jungkook’s pain-stricken face flashed across your mind as he told you that he liked you more than you liked him. It gnawed at your mind, clawing at it. Perhaps you hadn’t done the right thing at all.

“Okay, an easier question: what do you regret, and how you want the future to be different?”

“Easy,” you nodded, relieved that you didn’t have to answer. “I wish I didn’t like you. Why couldn’t you’ve been an asshole?”

In indignation, Taehyung grabbed a handful of grass and yanked it out of the ground, pulling up lumps of dirt with it, and then proceeded to throw it over your head. Without a second thought, you copied him, decorating his pale orange hair with dots of green. It didn’t last long, as Taehyung began whining about grass going down his back.

“Oh, stop complaining,” you scolded, satisfied that you’d won. “Ooh, I’ve got an idea! To complete the nature look, flowers are a must.” Picking out a few daises from the smattering in the grass, you pushed the stems into his hair, adding a touch of yellow and white.

In fact, you were so pleased with your idea, you kept going, adding more and more daisies to Taehyung’s head. All the while, he gave you a sullen look, crossing his arms in a fake temper.

“They’re going to fall out,” he moaned. “It’s making me look silly.”

“Shh, let me finish my masterpiece.”

As you worked on his hair, you suddenly noticed that Taehyung had been staring at you for a few minutes, watching you stick your tongue out as you concentrated. Embarrassed, you closed your mouth, keeping your eyes off his. Your heart began beating a little faster, and your hands became slightly unsteady.

“Y/N,” he said softly, his warm breath tingling against your skin. You almost sat back as you realised how close the proximity was, but trying to act nonchalant, you continued planting more daisies. “I don’t want you to think I was shunning you.”

“What?”

“I understand what it meant to you to tell me that you like me. The whole Yeji situation disorientated me a little, so I haven’t got the right words to say to you right now. But I want you to know that I’m grateful that you told me, and we will talk about it properly sometime.”

You thought about Jungkook, and how you were unable to give him a straight answer when he asked you if you liked him back. Nothing was ever that straightforward, so you had learnt. “It doesn’t matter,” you replied, adding one last flower to the bouquet atop Taehyung’s head. “Things like that take time.”

“Thanks for understanding,” he said gratefully, blowing his fringe out of his eyes. “I meant what I said in that note. You make me a lot happier than I realise.”

You nodded in agreement, and for a while, you stayed like that, staring at each other underneath the moonlight. Your heart rate still hadn’t gone back to its usual pace, and looking into his shining brown eyes wasn’t helping. It wasn’t making you nervous or scared, but it created a fizzing inside your chest, telling you that you were utterly, completely, stupidly happy. Through the years, you’d been denying this feeling because it was too strong for you to handle. But even when you knew that this moment was nothing, you couldn’t get rid of that sickening hope rising in your heart.

“Y/N, there’s something important I was going to tell you in the cupcake shop, before-”

“We’re going home, guys!” Jin yells, cutting Taehyung off.

Disappointment flooded your veins, but you disregarded it as you walked back up the hill to rejoin Jungkook. If it was that important, he would’ve told you already, you told yourself firmly.

In the car, everyone had swapped places so that Jungkook was now in the middle seat next to you, and Taehyung sat in the passenger seat in the front. It was dead on the way back, as Namjoon and Taehyung had fallen asleep, and Jin had stuck on a playlist with songs that neither you or Jungkook knew. Furthermore, you had a funny feeling that Jungkook had been watching you the whole time you were on the hill, and knew more than he let on.

Sighing quietly, you leant against the cool glass of the window, tired and slightly hungry. As Jin drove, you watched the wilting flowers fall out of Taehyung’s hair.

The next day, you’d arranged to meet Jungkook at the park, as he’d sent you an urgent message telling you that he needed to talk. If you were being honest with yourself, you weren’t worried as to what it could be, but that might have been because you were exhausted from your midnight rambles and you barely got any sleep due to overthinking the night’s events.

What Jungkook had said to you stuck with you all the way home, and was still bothering you the next morning. However, you were eager to talk it through, even if it was a painful conversation to have.

Walking down the stony path, you spotted Jungkook sitting on a bench overlooking a few boys playing with a football. He jumped up in alarm when he saw you, looking on edge and somewhat paler than usual.

“Jungkook!” you greeted happily, determined to make up for last night. “You wanted to talk?”

He wasted no time in jumping straight into it, looking you directly in the eye with a set confidence. “I’ve been thinking about what I said last night,” he began purposefully, ruffling the back of his hair with his hand. “Also, what you said as well. You said you wanted to make it work, too, but I saw you with Taehyung…”

You nodded, your suspicions confirmed. He had definitely been watching you.

“…and it made me think of what Namjoon said.”

“Let’s sit down,” you suggested, gesturing to the bench.

Your trivial interruption seemed to throw him off slightly, as he began hesitating and stumbling over his words. “Oh, erm… yeah, okay.”

You plonked down heavily, panic starting to settle in. Jungkook was usually very calm and self-assured, and only got this rattled when he talked about… love.

“Namjoon made me notice how you and I must see things differently. I’ve always seen your friendship with Taehyung as exactly that: a friendship. But when you were talking, it didn’t feel like I was watching two friends talking. There’s a vibe between you that I can’t quite put my finger on. So, that’s why I think it’s best if we quit while we’re ahead.”

“I’m sorry?” you spluttered.

Jungkook just smiled, a small blush creeping up his neck as he ploughed on. “Our personalities clash way too much, and I know you’ve noticed that as well. Plus, it’s not fair of me to pull you away from Taehyung. The way you look at him… it’s incomparable. We could push for something, could try harder to make things work, but I don’t think it’s meant to be.”

Although Jungkook’s words rang true, there was no denying the shattering feeling in your heart where hope had once lived. “But I thought you liked me,” you said quietly, not caring how childish you sounded. “I thought you wanted to be with me.”

“I do,” Jungkook swallowed, breathing heavily through his nose, “but it’s not fair to pull you away from Taehyung. I was wrong. I can’t force you to not like him; it’s just who you are. I thought maybe you could learn to love me, and things would work themselves out. What we have between us… it’s nothing to what you and Taehyung have. I see it. I chose to ignore it, and again, that’s my fault. I’m sorry for making you try to be someone you’re not. Besides, it feels weird to not have Taehyung come home and talk about you for fifteen minutes every day.”

“But you weren’t making me be someone else,” you argued, on the edge of tears now. “I need to move on from Taehyung, because otherwise, I’m just going to get hurt again when he finds some other person to love.” Your pitch was rising as you became more and more distraught, but Jungkook grabbed your hand tightly.

“This wasn’t the right way to go about it. Also, you haven’t even tried to get with Taehyung! He’s single, you’re single. And I’m more than happy to help you.”

He gave you a toothy grin, and you were surprised to see that there was no trace of a mask being put on. He seemed genuinely at ease, now that he’d got the hard words out of the way.

“Why do you still want to help me? Wouldn’t that hurt you?” you sniffed.

He chuckled, rubbing your hand with his thumb. “You’ve taught me a lot of things, Y/N,” he said softly. “One of those things is that you need to be honest with yourself if you want to be happy. Another thing is that you can’t avoid your feelings forever. I need to find peace in that.”

You didn’t understand what he meant at all, but you were too busy trying to keep tears from falling that you didn’t question it. Instead, you both stared at the boys playing football, and through your bleary vision, you recognised the pale orange hair bouncing alongside a shock of silver.

“Who’s Taehyung with again? We met him at the spring market,” asked Jungkook suddenly.

“Jimin,” you mumbled. “He’s been friends with Taehyung longer than I have.”

“That’s perfect, then,” he beamed, turning back to you. “I’m sure I can get Jimin to help us.”

“I need some time, Guk.” Even though you were aware that you and Jungkook weren’t well matched, the shock of the curt ending to your budding relationship stung a little. You weren’t ready to jump into pursuing another man, least of all the person you could only dream of being with.

“That’s fine,” he nodded. He lifted his arms uncertainly, unsure whether a hug was appropriate or not, but you buried your head into his chest gratefully. “You taught me a lot about love,” he murmured into your hair. “Even though you couldn’t give it to me.”

You weren’t wholly certain whether to be pleased or not. Either way, it didn’t matter, as the tears had eventually tumbled out, and you broke down entirely.

You came through the front door, slamming it behind you. Out of habit you were back at Yoongi’s place thanks to the key he gave you for you to come over. He flinched hearing the door and then turned back to look at you.

“Y/N?”

You sniffled, coming over to the side of the couch to sit on the floor next to him. He placed his hand on your cheek, rubbing it gently with his thumb.

“What’s wrong?”

“…Hoseok hates me..”

He titled his head In confusion. He tried to sit up but the pain in his side made him stop, cringing. You put your hand on his chest.

“Don’t. It’s okay…You need to rest still.”

“Then tell me what happened.” He demanded.

“I went to see how everyone was doing and when I went to see him he yelled and kicked me out. We’ve never fought before and I don’t know what to do without him… and they all think you’re skipping out on them I didn’t tell them anything but I think you should talk to them.”

He sighed, knowing he would have to at some point.

“I just don’t want them starting a fight we don’t need to have.”

“But they need to at least understand, Yoongi…”

He sat there for a few seconds as if he was considering his options until he silently reached for his phone. You watched as he clicked on of the contacts and placed the cellphone up to his ear. Yoongi waited until the person on the other end picked up.

“Hello? Yeah, It’s me…I need you to come to my place…..Yeah, no- I would come down there if I could, just please meet me here.”

You felt a little bad for asking him to talk to them , seeing how much he didn’t want to.

“Yeah, I’ll see you then.” He hung up the phone to set it back down next to him.

“Are you sure it’s okay?”

He nodded, reaching his hand out so you’d hold it.

“Yeah…I don’t want to cause trouble for you or them. I’ll just have to see what they decide on.”

You put his hand between the both of yours. “We can talk about it together with them. It’s my fault you’re in this situation anyway.“

“I told you not to say that. I chose to fight them. I wanted to protect you and that was my choice to make.”

“I know but-“

“Y/N, I mean it. This isn’t your fault.”

You nodded, only half believing in the words he told you. The two of you waited in the living room until the doorbell rang. When it did, you jumped up and answered it to find Namjoon and Jin standing in the doorway.

“Whoa, you really were here all week.” Jin let out.

“Well, someone had to be.”

Namjoon gave a look at your comment, starting to figure out what was going on. He walked over to the other man seeing him on the couch. He let out a sigh.

“You? In a fight?” Namjoon says.

Yoongi rolled his eyes.

“They grabbed Y/N. What the hell was I supposed to do? Watch?”

“It was the same guys? Yoongi what were you thinking! I just tried to settle things with them!”

He forced himself to finally sit up, letting out a groan. His hand placed itself over his hurt ribs.

“I didn’t even fight them! They jumped me on the way back home!”

You came over at sat next to Yoongi, making sure he wouldn’t sprain himself. Namjoon stuffed his hands into his pockets as he tried to think of something to do.

“They beat your ass after I already paid them off to forget about it?”

“I don’t know…I guess?” He mumbled.

An intimidating look came over the boss’s face. It was an expression unlike the other ones you’d seen from him. After years of hanging out with Hoseok and the occasionally other gang members you were never sure how to tell on which of them were murderers but the look Namjoon had left you with no doubt.

“Get up. You’re coming with us…Jin help him up and get out to the car.” Namjoon said before heading to the door.

“Wait! What’s going on?-“ You tried to demand but Yoongi stopped you.

“It’ll be okay. Just stay here for the night, okay? I’ll come back later and everything will be fine.”

“No! Yoongi, you’re still hurt from last time. You can’t go out there and get in another fight!”

Jin came over, putting Yoongi’s arm over his shoulder to help balance him up.

“Sorry Y/N. I’m just doing orders…” Jin tells you.

You watch as the two of them leave the house in front of your eyes and the door shut behind them. You kept trying to come up with ideas to help them out somehow but you didn’t even know how to shoot a gun. Maybe you were thinking too far ahead? Maybe they wouldn’t end up in a fight and maybe they would settle it differently. An hour passed and you still sat on the couch overthinking the situation. It was suffocating and when you couldn’t take it anymore you ran over to the front door. Opening it you found Hoseok already standing there, his hand about to press the doorbell.

“Y/N. I didn’t think you’d even open the door.”

Feeling helpless you run to him, holding on tightly starting to cry.  Hoseok pats your back, softly.

“I’m sorry I got mad at you earlier. Jin explained everything before they left and I felt guilty for what I said. I was just being jealous even though you were only away from me for a week.”

You shake your head on his chest without looking up at him.

“I wanted to tell you but I couldn’t. I’m sorry I didn’t think about your feelings…and I know this is a bad time to bring it up but please tell me they are all okay? I feel like I’m going to lose it just sitting here not doing anything.”

He nods. “They’re fine, I promise. I also came here to stay with you until he comes back, so let’s go inside and I’ll make you something.”

You slowly let go of him, trying to wipe the tears off your cheeks. Hoseok walks in and heads straight to the kitchen. He digs through the semi-empty fridge to cook something for the both of you the best he could. As worried as you were, you started to feel better with him by your side. After dinner you both sat on the couch as you rested your head in his lap.

“Yoongi’s tough. He’ll be okay.” Hoseok added.

You don’t even look up at him. “I know…and I doubt Namjoon would put them in a worse situation. He’s also tough but he cares about you guys.”

“That’s true.”

You yawn. “You never told me what you were hiding.”

“Hiding? O-oh…What I was holding back telling you before. I came to realize that it’s not place to say it whether I wanted to or not. I care about both of you…a lot. So, for now? It’s nothing.”

He checks down at you when you don’t respond back, seeing you asleep on his lap. A small smile appears on his face seeing how calm you looked.

“I want you two to be happy…that’s all that matters to me.” He says with a sigh, focusing his attention on the TV ahead of him until he also passes out on the couch.

Undisclosed Desires (part 1)

Words: 1.5k

Summary: You have a secret history with angels that you’d rather not discuss with the Winchesters. Then you meet Castiel.

Warnings: Slight smut (very brief), language

A/N: I didn’t realize how perfectly “Undisclosed Desires” by Muse fits this series until it was mostly written. Just an FYI, the whole story is more than it seems. Master tag list is at the end. Let me know if you’d like to be added.

—————–

Every girl is entitled to her own secrets, right? Your life was full of them. Hunting didn’t exactly allow for telling the truth to everyone.

Even as you got closer to the Winchesters, you never felt you could be entirely honest with them about your past; you didn’t think they’d understand. It wasn’t a problem until they informed you of their relationship with an angel.

Keith’s Family: A Theory

( in response to @paladinspride‘s post about Keith’s family)

Tbh I’ve had some theories thinking that maybe Keith was somehow related to Lotor in some way / other galran royalty. I’m not entirely sure how all that would be explained but.. I’ve had a few thoughts..

So we know Zarkon is Lotor’s father – but we don’t know who his mother is.. so I’m assuming she’s (at least half) Altean because Lotor’s appearance does resemble Haggar’s (who is Altean herself).. I personally don’t think Haggar is Lotor’s mother, though, I think we’ve still to see her. But where would Keithy boy come into this?

Tbh this is where it gets a little confusing I guess, because there’s no way to tell.. but I suppose you could argue that Lotor and Keith have the same mother? Since it doesn’t look as if Lotor has extended his life for 10,000+ years via Quintessence, it would be safe to assume that his mother was around recently.

  • I’m thinking that maybe Lotor’s mother (or I’ll just call her Galra Mom/GM for now) is part of the BoM..and she’s one of their top members. For a huge infiltration mission, she goes in and tries to take the empire down from the inside or gain information, and so she goes by trying to gain Zarkon’s trust. It’s a bit difficult at first since she’s Altean (or at least half) and she needs to really work at making Zarkon (and others close to him) think she’s not a threat. However, it does work and they get (the galra equivalent) of married… skip a few years and Lotor is born.
  • As a small kid, Lotor’s learning under Haggar and other people who are fiercely loyal to Zarkon’s regime. Galra Mom isn’t too happy because she loves her boy but if things continue he’s going to end up just like his father (which she does not want) and so she tries to teach him about how wonderful the universe is and all of the different planets and cultures.
  • Small time skip (Lotor’s around 5/6) and GM is sitting in a playroom or something watching little Lotor playing with his toys thinking about how people are becoming more suspicious of her and she knows that she probably doesn’t have a lot of time left before her cover is blown.. so she knows she will have to leave soon. It breaks her heart because she wants to keep her son safe from Zarkon’s influence but she could end up getting killed and harming her son and the mission.
  • Meanwhile, whilst little Lotor has been growing up, Zarkon somehow managed to acquire the red lion of Voltron. GM knows that, above anything else, she needs to try and keep Voltron away from Zarkon or there really will be no happy future for anyone in the universe. So one night, she’s in the hangar where the red lion is kept and pleads with her (i hc red as a girl btw) to allow her to pilot her to somewhere safe. Red refuses however and reassures her that her paladin will come for her. So she takes an escape pod.
  • When she lands, GM has no idea where she is, all she knows is the planet is called Earth. She wanders around and doesn’t really know what to do now..by now, the empire will know of her betrayal, so there’s no going back. Might as well explore the planet then before settling down somewhere she knows she will stay safe.
  • As she wanders the planet, GM tries not to think too much about how much she misses her boy - the thought of him growing up without her just pains her so much and she longs to go back and see her son. But now is not the time. She can only hope he won’t be like Zarkon.
  • Another time skip and GM decides to stay in a desert-like area..it’s pretty much barren, so there’s no chance of someone coming here. Except there is. And that guy is ..

Keith’s dad. (I also think that he may have gotten that scar from either doing some dangerous exploring, or getting attacked by GM when she thought he was going to hurt her – but again, that’s a really minor side-theory)

  • ANOTHER TIME SKIP, and GM is falling love with this human man (and he teaches her about life on Earth, and she eventually tells him of her home and shows him her space pod and stuff). Lucky for her, he’s falling in love with this awesome galra lady
  • She gives him her BoM blade to remember her by (because she knows again that she can’t stay on Earth forever)
  • Anywhooo, they end up together and *insert time skip here* they have a little boy, Keith. She adores her little boy, and hopes that one day that Keith will get to see his half-brother
  • One day, when Keith is like 2/3, GM gets a warning from her pod that Galra are approaching and locking on a signal in the Milky Way Galaxy about Galra tech there.. and yikes she knows that’s time up for her.
  • She tells Keith’s dad that night that she needs to leave. There are tears (just like the night she left Lotor) and she promises that she’ll come back one day and that she’ll reunite all her family. But for now, she needs to complete her mission and keep Voltron out of Zarkon’s hands and keep the universe safe.
  • That night, Keith’s dad and little Keith watch as GM’s space pod flies into space
  • From that point onward, GM travels through space, planet to planet and galaxy to galaxy doing what she can to resist Zarkon’s regime. She does this for many years until one day she finds herself trapped in the belly of a welbum whilst in the middle of an important mission. She’s gotten herself out of lots of tricky situations, but not entirely sure how she’ll get out of this one.
  • It’s been well over a week now… She’s still trapped in the worm and her pod is running out of resources to keep her going. She thinks maybe this is it and she’ll never get to see her family again. She’ll never get to see Lotor, Keith, or Keith’s father. The three people in her life that she truly loved and cared for. She begins to lose hope…until someone opens up the pod and gets her out.
  • She’s stunned at first, because the boy’s eyes resemble Keith’s eyes..but there’s no way it’s him. It looks as if he has black hair too, but there’s no way of knowing… Once she escapes, all she thinks about how That’s impossible..There’s no way my little boy would be out in space. Not now…could he?

(aaand that’s everything i got for now..i don’t think there’s much more i could really say.. if you have anything to add to this or discuss, feel free! :) )

He’s not expecting it when it happens.

Of course, he knew it would happen, but he hoped it would be much further down the line. He is barely on his 200th calendar, the boxes of January crossed out in yellow counting down the days, a constant reminder that she is on her way. He just hoped she lived a very long and happy life before hand.

He sits in his armchair in front of the fire, hers placed carefully next to his side, tapping his fingers along the rim of his half empty glass. Journal open on his lap as his jaw ticks with the lack of inspiration.

Okay, I’m sorry this took so long.  I got in that cycle of overthinking things and it ended up being much longer than anticipated! Future chapters won’t be as long as this one, but I had lots of Killian feels in this one :) so hopefully you all enjoy it! Huge thank you to @optomisticgirl for her endless assistance and support on this story! As always, I own nothing. Happy reading!

The night had barely begun, but Killian finalized his decision with a fifth tug at his pressed sleeve - he hated this bloody suit. Truthfully, he’d never been particularly keen on being properly trimmed and tailored in general so the dismal conclusion wasn’t really a wildly drawn one. Killian had spent his fair share of years finding ways around royal dress code, his preference of modern casual easily overlooked due to his charming smile and stellar sweet talking skills - or at least that’s what he told himself. It was easy to see why looking so proper was important as a representative of his grandmother’s monarchy, but still, that didn’t mean he had to like it.

Perhaps it wasn’t his current attire that was solely the source of his agitation he noted when the smooth traveling black BMW pulled up to the gates of Buckingham. He’d spent the few hours before sunset arguing with the brand new, trim-tailored, clean lined blue suit - an endeavor that earned a multitude of grumbles and a few countdown texts from his incessantly formal brother. Taking a final glance in the bathroom mirror, he smoothed the maroon and navy striped tie as he settled on what was really bothering him.

The event calling for his recently required clothes was one he’d been dreading for weeks now - a Royal Navy veterans’ memorial ceremony where he’d most certainly spend the evening regaling his older brother’s military heroism while squandering the need to sort out his own.

The idea that this was his fault on some level had crossed his mind once or twice since he’d returned home. He’d elected to take the route less selected by royals when he’d chosen the British Army instead of sailing the honorable seas. Breaking the tradition wasn’t something he’d done by fear or a distaste for the open ocean, but rather a result of his stubborn need to move out from under his older sibling’s shadow.

Of course, that was supposing that such a momentous feat was actually possible.
