i think we could be perfect

youtube

Hey so this is a really, really interesting and neat video that I’m hoping gets around a bit more. It has a lot to say about identity and personas - the person vs the avatar we create for ourselves. As stated in the video, it’s a super relevant topic! And I think it’s something worth watching and might help drive home ideas concerning how to treat people online… Or creators/actors/figure-heads in general.

I love that Magnus is dancing. I think it's great. But there's also a part of me that wants it to not be a thing, like Harry is so super talented beyond his dancing and if all people ask if for him to dance it makes me :/ idk. Also a part of me would still love "here is Magnus with perfect cat-like grace and poise, and he also has to left feet and I still love him" ya know? I didn't know I could be so conflicted over something as simple as dancing!

i love that harry is going to be dancing as magnus but yeah i do agree harry should be recognized for more than his dancing, even though he’s an exceptionally talented dancer! But he’s also a very talented actor and quite a good singer too (fuck u @ glee).

but i think the dancing we see will be really perfect for magnus – we know harry choreographed it himself and i’ve loved all of his interpretations of magnus’ movements, so i’m sure the dancing will be just as great.

i suspect we’ll still see the fluid movements but not the typical kind of dance we’re used to seeing from harry…like something more more “magnus” if that makes sense. either way i’m really looking forward to it!

“I think that went as well as we could imagine,” John said after they had spent most of the day getting to know their new daughter,  a successful family dinner and then reading her a story before tucking her in. “She seemed to really like Lucy, that made me very happy.”

“Of course she does, Lucy is perfect. And I agree, things could’ve gone a lot worse.”

“So, tomorrow you’re going shopping?”

“Yes, but we’ll go early, so you can take her to the park in the afternoon while I finish her room. It’s too bad we went for yellow in that room, she said her favourite colour is green.”

“Maybe if we put enough green stuff in there? Children change their favourite colour all the time too, so it’s probably cheaper in the long run to pick curtains and bedspreads in the favourite colour and leave the walls.”

“Yes but…”

John looked over to his wife as her voice trailed off and was surprised to see her face buried in her hands and sobbing.

Hi! A 16 year old girl here, I've known I'm bisexual since I was 10, i finally put a label on it when I was 13, but here's the deal, my mom's extremely Homophobic, and I wanted to tell her since we're really close, but I wanted to way til I was 18, now? I'd rather take my sexuality to the grave, or never tell her, but I've been developing a crush on this girl, and she's so perfect. But once again, today my mom said she'd kill us if she found out one of us is LGBT, I need your advice, please. -BG

Your safety comes before anything else. If you think there’s the possibility that your mother could get violent or might kick you out of home if you come out to her then it might be best to hide it from her till you’re 18 and more financially independent.

You don’t have to come out to her, even if you feel like you should because you’ve been close to her. And tbh it doesn’t sound like she deserves to know. It’s a privilege for a person to be trusted enough for someone to come out to them, and she doesn’t get that privilege if she’s going to behave like a bigot.

You can always tell her in a couple of years when it’s safer, and you never know, she might surprise you. My nana surprised my auntie when she came out as a lesbian decades ago and she surprised me when I came out as trans.

Also, a lot of homophobes are actually just hypocrites and they’ll do a big 180 if their own kid turns out to be LGBT+ (it’s hypocritical but it’s better than being rejected). And if she reacts badly then that’s fucked up and maybe she doesn’t deserve to have you in her life. Some homophobic parents come to their senses when they realise they could lose their queer kids because of their bigotry.

But it’s not just someone to hold you under. It needs to be someone who can pull you back. Someone that has a strong connection to you, a kind of emotional tether. Lydia…you go with Stiles.

Co-Leadership Klance Theory

So I’ve seen a few people make mention to the fact that in season three, we could possibly get two leaders in Voltron and I honestly think that could be true, based on a few things that I’ve noticed…

In the beginning of the show we saw this

Keith and Lance both saving Shiro in some way has symbolism. Keith was struggling to hold Shiro up by himself (almost like the future weight of leading the group)

And then Lance came in at the perfect time to help him, taking some of the weight off of his shoulders

Here’s another form of symbolism

They’re all lined up and working together to defeat the enemy, this is definitely showing something. But it’s mainly the colours. Is it really a coincidence that Lance and Keith are red and blue while Shiro is purple? Shiro must represent something between them, maybe what they equal together

But other than Shiro, there have been moments dropped around the show that also prove that Lance and Keith make a good team and work well together

Like for example, their bonding moment

(oh look, more purple…interesting….)

Lance literally said “We did it, we are a good team” here

And on a small side note, during some moments with Keith, Lance has been shown to be a good leader, someone that Keith needs around to help him (like with Shiro in ep 1)

This scene here when Keith was ready to run into fight without even a second thought really proves that

Lance stops him and says to think things through (giving a better plan,) which is essential when leading a group

It’s almost like they balance each other out, Keith is impulsive while Lance is decisive, making their team level-headed which is similar to Shiro’s persona (red equals danger, while blue equals calm, making purple which is a combination of both?)

Then there was this elevator scene, which I believe was more than just fan service

They literally did the impossible by getting out of there together, blatantly showing, even though they don’t always get a long

they definitely do make a good team when it counts

Here too

This is one of the best moments I’ve seen them work together. There have been others too where they put aside their differences and help one another when it’s important

And recently I’ve heard that now that Shiro’s gone, Lance is going to become more serious and show more of a leadership role, just like Keith will have to as well

And this small scene we got from the trailer shows that. They all look very serious and the stance’s may be this way to make room for everyone in the shot, but there’s just something about Lance and Keith

They both look just like Shiro here and I don’t think that’s a coincidence at all.

I’m not saying he was perfect.  He was far from it in fact, but he was something that I couldn’t resist. We never dated, though at times I wish we would’ve. At the beginning, I wasn’t trying to let him in.  I didn’t want to, but somewhere along the line, I fell for him. Hard.

Then, he left.

Like it was nothing.

Like we were nothing.

Like I was nothing.

I don’t necessarily think I was in love with him, but oh, I could’ve been. I really really could’ve been.

No Pain, No Gain”

Based on a Miraculous musing that I shared last year (that I can’t seem to find on my main blog) about Master Fu taking Nino under his wing to become the next holder of the Turtle Miraculous and awesomely enough, I’m not the only miraculer who shares this thought. The very first time I saw Master Fu, I immediately thought of Mr. Miyagi cause you have to admit, the resemblance is definitely there and since then I’ve been itching and hoping that the series would do a Karate Kid inspired episode where Nino comes to Master Fu for help.

Like maybe there’s this new schoolyard bully with the hots for Alya who starts targeting Nino specifically due to his relationship with and somewhat own romantic interest in our foxy gal; constantly challenging him to foolish fights for Alya’s love. Being the nonchalant character he is, Nino dismisses the bully’s initial advances at harrying as he wasn’t the type of guy to want to fight anyone.

And in similar Karate Kid type of fashion, Master Fu firstly meets Nino after he saves him from being pummelled by said bully and his comrades when they suddenly cornered him after school. Following that event, Nino is forced to fight back against said bully; seeking out Fu for help, practically begging him to teach him how to fight; a request which Fu surprisingly accepts.

This is how I imagined Fu’s first encounter with Nino to be like. And after helping him the first time, Master Fu starts to acknowledge potential in Nino—a potential which inspires him to start training him to be his successor. I imagine that at first Wayzz wouldn’t be too keen with the idea of Nino one day replacing Master Fu as his new master cause I figured that, unlike Plagg, Tikki and possibly the other kwamis, Wayzz is the one who’s been with his original holder the longest; considering that Fu is over 100 years old. While the others had had to change holders over the years, Wayzz has been with Fu since the day one and is very much loyal to him.

But ultimately I imagine once he sees Nino’s good qualities, Wayzz will begin to warm up to the young lad and actually starts to care for his well being; seeing a lot of the qualities in Nino that he did in Master Fu that made him love him as his master. Plus I think this kind of scenario could be great for Nino’s own character development as a teacher-mentor relationship with Master Fu can certainly help mould him into a stronger individual and hero. Not to mention that it’ll be really touching to see Master Fu have a sort of father-son/grandfather-grandchild/close family oriented relationship with at least one of our young heroes and I think Nino would be the perfect candidate to bring out that side of him. We don’t know if Fu used to have any kids of his own. I doubt he ever did given his duty as Miraculous holder and Ancient Guardian (and even if hid have some, he probably outgrew them since he’s practically immortal). So yeah, I’d love to see that kind of bond with Fu, Nino and Wayzz in the series, if possible.

Do I think Master Fu will choose Nino as his successor for the Turtle Miraculous? Indeed I do.

However, do I think he’ll just hand it to him on a silver platter like he did with Adrien and Marinette? HA! Hell no! I think Master Fu will go full Mr. Miyagi on Nino and make him work for his miraculous, putting him through a rigorous training regimen to build his strength and test his worth. Plus it’ll be good for comical moments when Fu unintentionally pushes poor Nino too far and has to be scolded by Wayzz for getting too excited and overdoing things with his student. Poor Turtle Sensei just wants to see his Turtle Kouhai succeed XD

Would love to see this become canon but…for now these are all just headcanons of mine. In the meantime, a squiggle meister can dream…and draw, am I right? Alrighty I’ve rambled enough on this. As always, I hope everyone enjoys this week’s newest ML squiggle art and I hope you also enjoyed my Miraculous musing (granted you actually read all of that). Feel free to share yours over on my main blog if you have any.

Until the next squiggle piece, y’know my motto, staaaay tune for more precious star kids!  (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Your bed was calling your name as you walked over to the soft mattress, choosing to ignore the missed calls and text messages from your best friend. This was the first Saturday night you had to yourself in months. No work. No brother. No best friend. You were free to do whatever you wanted.

Or at least that’s what you had originally intended. But as the door to your bedroom crashed open you soon realized that the night had other plans for you.

“Why haven’t you answered my calls?” your best friend Irene squealed as she plopped down at the foot of your bed. “It’s Saturday night and I know you don’t have to work tomorrow!”

You gave her a look. Well, you tried to give her a look to the best of your ability as the motions of your face was restricted by the sheet mask on top of it. “There’s a reason why I didn’t answer your calls. And just because my idiot brother gave you a key to our apartment doesn’t mean you can just waltz in here any time you want.”

Irene rolled her eyes, blowing a large bubble from the gum she was constantly chewing. She was clearly not amused at your disinterest on leaving your apartment tonight. You reached forward, popping it with your pointer finger. “You’re no fun, Y/N” she whined, collecting the gum back into her mouth.

“I can’t have fun when I’m always too busy taking care of you.” you quipped, reminding her of the last time the two of you went out. “I had to beg that cop not to give you a ticket for being drunk in public. Why aren’t you bothering my brother? I’m sure he would love to see you.”

I don’t even know. I was taking a walk today and this idea popped into my head. I swear I’m still writing the bookstore AU, too. Also, *pops confetti*, I hit 2k followers today! Who ARE all you guys? Anyway, this fluff/ridiculousness is for you. ~1.6k words, rated G. Sterek, of course.

The whole thing starts with Stiles really, really craving a meatball sub from the place across the street.

“God, someone shut him up,” Erica groans. They’re all kind of at their breaking point by now; they’ve been camped out in this meeting room all day, brainstorming. “He’s been talking about the same goddamn sandwich for seven and a half minutes now, and it’s making me hungry.”

“If only our ad campaign were about sandwiches, Stilinski would have it in the bag and we could all go home,” Isaac sighs.

From across the table, Derek rises abruptly to his feet and storms out. (Or maybe it’s just that Stiles always interprets everything Derek does as stormy. With those eyebrows, it’s hard not to.)

Stiles assumes he’s just gotten so fed up with them all that it’s either storm out or kill someone, and he’s just grateful Derek chose Door Number 1. It’s a good day not to get killed by Derek Hale.

Only, fifteen minutes later he comes back in. With a paper bag from the deli.

As soon as he gets within grabbing distance, Stiles practically collapses across the table in his haste to reach for it. “Oh my god, is that what I think it is?”

Derek holds it up over his head. “Who says this is for you? Maybe all your talk inspired me to go get a meatball sub of my own.”

“Oh, please. Like anyone with your abs eats meatball subs.” Stiles leaps to his feet on his swivel chair—because screw safety, Derek will catch him if he starts to topple over—and snatches the bag out of Derek’s grip. Derek doesn’t fight him for it very hard.

“Why don’t I get a meatball sub?” Erica whines, thumping her head down on her notebook. “Doesn’t anyone love me?”

Derek shrugs and takes his seat again. “You didn’t ask.”

“You just like Stilinski better,” she grumbles, and Derek just shrugs again.

Meanwhile, Stiles rips into the bag and takes a huge bite out of the gloriousness that is this sandwich. He can’t help throwing in a few theatrical moans just to taunt Erica, and she suitably rewards him with a glare of death across the table.

“Mmm,” Stiles says. “Derek, I love you so much, dude. Marry me.”

Instead of the grumpy eyebrows he expects, Derek meets his eye, leans back smugly in his chair, and says, “Okay.”

How To: Develop Your Characters

I think we’ve all been in the situation where we want to write about a specific character but have no idea how to approach it. For some reason, despite them being your own character, you have no idea how they would act or what they would say in a certain situation. Sometimes, if you even write about your character(s) at all, when you read it back they seem fake or 2-Dimensional. Unrealistic, if you’d prefer.

In this post, I am going to give you some exercises to get past hollow characters and help develop your writing.

1) Empty Their Pockets

Pretty simple. Think of what your characters would have in their pockets on a day-to-day basis. It doesn’t have to be anything super extraordinary, of course. Just start writing some everyday items down and think about whether your character would have these items in their pockets.

Let’s take a look at one I did for my characters earlier. (sorry that just sounded like something from Blue Peter)

For example:

Character A’s Pockets Contained:

pack of gum, empty pack of cigarettes, library card, NOKIA brick phone

So, here a few things you can tell about Character A simply through the items in their pockets. They visit the library often, meaning that they probably have a high interest in reading (this also could be a sign of intelligence). Judging by the fact Character A has both a pack of gum and cigarettes this could indicate a potential smoking habit, chewing gum is a known way for helping people quit smoking. The pack of cigarettes could show that they are not very good at restricting themselves and could in fact be addicted and finding it hard to cope with smoking. Finally, the NOKIA brick phone shows how they may want to feel connected to people or want to allow their friends/family members/whoever to be able to contact them but have no desire to get the latest model of phone or perhaps believe that having such a device would distract them unnecessarily.

When doing this exercise, think about key objects which portray certain details about your character! Try not to overthink it too much, write whatever comes to mind and put it down on the page! After writing down a couple objects, go back through them and feel free to edit out items you think are unnecessary or add items which you think would suit the character.

2) Go Through Their Daily Routine

Again, another easily explained exercise. Go through a regular day in your character’s life, try and do this exercise as if it was happening before whatever events occur in your story or novel. This way it makes it easier to understand your character before they met a secondary character in the novel or before whatever events happened in your writing which may affect their routine. You don’t need to include every single detail in your description, just brief notes or key events which occur during their day would be fine. You can make it as short or as long as you wish, maybe don’t just do it for one day in your character’s week perhaps do it for multiple days.

Does their routine change during the week? What time do they wake up? What time do they go to sleep? Are they punctual with going to work? Do they do any other activities outside their day-job? These are the kind of things you may want to ask yourself when writing it.

3) Give Them Fears/Phobias

Everyone fears something: whether it be a phobia of spiders or oblivion, everyone has a fear. Giving your character a phobia makes them seem more realistic, it allows your reader to easily relate to your character.

However, just having a phobia for the sake of it doesn’t help develop your character at all. If you give them a terrible phobia of snakes and they come across a snake and suddenly within moments are able to get over their fear just like that, it’s not a phobia. It’s more of a mild inconvenience than anything else. The reader needs to feel convinced by their fears, they would feel more dissatisfied with your writing if they felt the character could dismiss anything and everything than knowing them being confronted by their fears could be a possible problem. Besides, it would give them no reason to motivate or encourage the character if they knew it was impossible for them to be defeated by anything. Still, this does not mean that your character has to be destroyed by their fear. There is a very big difference between simply dismissing your character’s fear and perhaps overcoming it in the future.

An easy way to write your character possibly overcoming their fear in the future is that when they first encounter that fear, add an element of chance or fate into it. For example, if a character were to move to get away from the creature which may be coming towards them; in the process of getting up, they could slip which could cause their legs to lash out towards the creature. The sudden movement may just be enough to scare the creature away, this way it does not appear to the reader as ridiculous or uncharacteristic courage but instead accidental bravery. This sudden revelation that the character’s horrible fear may not be as all powerful as they first thought could be the first step for them to slowly overcome that fear.

Don’t believe me? Let’s think about this for a moment. Imagine your character, let’s call them the Protagonist™, is stuck in a terrible situation. It doesn’t matter what the situation is but let’s say it’s something which involves them being trapped in a room with a snake. I’m going to give you two examples, both involving the same situation.

Example #1:

Protagonist watched with wide eyes as the snake slowly slithered towards them. The snake paused for a moment, it hissed lowly as it waited for Protagonist to move, waiting for the right moment to strike.  Not hesitating for a single moment, they suddenly realised how dire the situation was and jumped to their feet. Their heart pumping wildly as their body was filled with adrenaline, they were terrified yet they had to do something. Protagonist grabbed the nearest thing to them and stepped towards the snake.

“Get away!” They threatened, “Get away!”

Example #2:

Protagonist watched with wide eyes as the snake slowly slithered towards them. The snake paused for a moment, it hissed lowly as it waited for Protagonist to move, waiting for the right moment to strike. The blood in Protagonist’s veins ran cold as the snake grew closer and closer, Protagonist couldn’t move. They begged and screamed on the inside to move away, to get away as far as possible. They had lost all control of their movement, their fear had consumed them. They were frozen to the spot and could only watch as the snake widened it’s jaw, ready to bite down on it’s prey. It widened it’s jaw once, twice - suddenly, Protagonist gained back their instincts. Fleeing seemed like the only realistic option and seconds before the snake could chomp down on their ankle, Protagonist stumbled to their feet. They stumbled backwards into a puddle of water which had pooled behind them and their ankle rolled as they slipped, their legs accidentally lashing out towards the predator. The snake recoiled backwards in shock before deciding that the risk wasn’t worth it: it quickly retreated back to it’s nest, disappearing from Protagonist’s view.

Now, hopefully you see what I mean. I think we can all agree that the second example is a lot better than the first one.

4) Create Their Flaws/Bad Habits

No one is perfect, this includes your characters.

If you’re finding it challenging to think of any flaws, try to think of some bad habits. It doesn’t have to be anything so terribly bad that’s it’s illegal. Think simple when it comes to this exercise. It can range from anything between chewing their nails to swearing.

It might help to try and develop these bad habits into possible flaws or weaknesses. If your character keeps biting their nails that might be a sign of nervousness or anxiety. So, creating bad habits might be a good way to show a certain trait your character may possess.

Flaws are important as well. Let’s be realistic, if no character had any flaws then every single book we read would be filled with a bunch of characters which are exactly the same. Besides, what’s a hero without it’s villain?

So, to give you a few ideas, let’s go back to superheroes. Maybe a hero is so set on doing the right thing that they lose sight of what they want? Perhaps it gets to a certain point where they can’t handle that hollow feeling inside of them that they grow arrogant, selfish or even stubborn? There’s a story for you right there.

Not only that, by giving your characters flaws it is possible that you could work that into your story somehow. This way, not only will you get to show off your amazing character development, but it could also be an exciting point in your storyline.

Write down some ideas, think of flawed personality traits and just write them down! Try to write down at least five straight off the bat, for each one you don’t like you should think about why it doesn’t suit your character. You’re bound to find one flaw you’re happy with!

5) Write Some Scenarios

Now that you’ve developed your characters, go ahead and write them in your story! If you think you still need a bit of practice, try writing something about them being in a certain scenario. It could be anything from ordering their favourite coffee to being trapped in a prison: just write it! Try not to think about it too much, just do whatever feels write (I unintentionally made that pun but i’m not deleting it).

It doesn’t have to be long either, just a couple paragraphs would be fine. Try to focus on body movements and interior thoughts, it would be ideal if your character was on their own in the situation: that way you can get to know the character on their own a lot better. No other characters means no distractions. It’s just you, the wonderful author, and your character - there is an endless amount of possibilities for you!

Have faith in yourself too! Nobody knows your brilliantly developed characters better than you do, so here’s your chance to show them off! If you’d like a second opinion, write something about them and give it to a friend/parent/random stranger etc. to read! If they don’t want to, make them read it anyway!

I hope this helps you all in developing your characters!

Happy writing!

Imagine

Here’s my meta about the last clip of episode 5.

  • Our intro shot of the karaoke bar introduces our players. I’m especially interested in how we see Mari and Sara twice each (and sharing one shot).
  • May I just say: I am glad my son Eskild is alive and Extra.
  • We have Chris talking to Sara (we don’t see Sara’s face but it’s her jumper) 👀
  • In general we have a big focus on couples (including Evak) and russebussen people. Showing, again, this season’s themes (love and identities/belongings).
  • We have some Chris and Eva talking about wiring money, which seems like foreshadowing to the russebuss contract and payment.
  • Even is about to sing and no one ships Evak more than Magnus.
  • @newlevelofdesperate wrote a great meta about Even singing “Imagine” by John Lennon. I agree with most of it.
I’ll just add that the song is ironic, just like “I’m Not In Love” in s3e5. “Imagine all the people living life in peace.” Sana is feeling the song at the moment. She feels that everything came together, finally. But it’s not true. She wished she could create world peace (if you gave her the power to do so she would, she really would). But she can’t. Some things are beyond her reach and she still hasn’t managed to reconcile her two identities (Norwegian & Muslim).
Also, I think the song is as much an Even song as a Sana one. Once again.
  • We barely see Mikael walk in, and Elias and the gang look around. Yousef seems to be looking in the crowd for Sana.
  • No shot of the squad until we get a shot of Even seeing them. Then Magnus and Jonas turn to see where Even is looking (not Isak or Mahdi) and we get another shot of balloon squad: no Mikael. Adam and Mutta seem unconcerned. Elias though sees Even and is not smiling (but he’s not looking mad either).
He grabs Yousef who was smiling towards Sana and…the smile falters.

“Everyone thinks we’re dating.” Simon randomly announced in the middle of of his and Jace’s second weekly movie nights.

Jace hit the pause button on the remote and gave Simon a quizzical look. “And?”

“That doesn’t bother you?”

“No?”

Simon stared at Jace. “It doesn’t?”

“Why would it?” Jace asked, raising an eyebrow. “I mean… aren’t we?”

“What?”

“Aren’t we dating?” Jace repeated. “I mean, this is a date, right?”

Meta Post: How did Shiro get his scar?

So a few days ago I did a post about Shiro’s prosthetic arm and the response was amazing! Many of you also showed interest in me doing one on Shiro’s scar as well, so here we are. This one took me a lot longer to make because it’s not as cut-and-dry as the arm. There’s a lot of variables and speculation. We can’t really know for sure what DID happen, but we can most likely deduce what DIDN’T happen. (WARNING–I’m going to discuss some graphic stuff, blood/gore/injuries, etc. So be aware.)

In this post we’ll go through the possibilities and see which ones are the most likely to occur. There will be one numbered point per general option, and I will narrow them down to the ones I think could happen. I would love for you to share your thoughts on the matter! At one point most of us, myself included, assumed Shiro got the scar on his face during battle, so this brings us to the first option:

1. The scar is the result of a sword or other blade swipe during battle

Let’s take a look at what would have to happen for this option to be the case. There’s an easy way to visualize this in 10 seconds or less.

People who are overly critical of Steven universe don’t understand how good we all really have it.

Steven universe could have been a one in a million show with a majority male cast, zero serious subjects being tackled and a tiny budget in some alternate universe

I just think we should be thankful for this great thing that exists in the world instead of punishing it forgot being perfect.

To be honest how much better could you do with the small budget and constraints from cartoon network?

Last week I read the anthology Love Is Love, published by DC Comics and IDW, an homage to the victims and survivors of the Orlando shooting.

I didn’t dare asking to participate when Marc Andreyko made an open call for creators. But after reading it, and seeing the DC characters there (which I didn’t expect), I kept thinking what would I have done, and I was inspired to do this short story. Couldn’t help myself actually.
It falls utterly and unashamedly under the category of fan fiction. My first ever.

And to expand on the meta commentary, given the hostile world we live in, as a queer author and activist I think mainstream comics still could use higher profile queer superheroes, tied to their most visible franchises, that are queer super activists alongside the ones that do add to minority representation but sometimes just “happen to be queer”. Of course, as a Wonderfan I think one tied to the Wonder Woman franchise would be just perfect.

Things from musicals that are so perfect they are borderline erotic

When Jonathan Groff first comes in in The Bitch of Living.
The third and fourth “burn"s in Burn and Phillipa Soo’s voice all the time. Shoutout to the final “mine” too; that’s gorgeous.
Pia Douwes’s voice, and how it is somehow simultaneously smooth and pure and beautifully rough.
The harmonies at the end of Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I’m Falling.
The “or"s at the end of lines in Pretty Women.
“Would you think so badly of me” in Sonya and Natasha.
The dissidence of "trees” in Darkness and Trees.
How Phillipa Soo’s voice blends perfectly with the violins in Natasha Lost.
“I wish I could fly” from Superboy and the Invisible Girl.
That thing in The Bitch of Living when they are all jumping around chaotically and then suddenly are frozen singing “do they think we want this?” (Start at 2:40 for the full effect.)
That thing Karen David does in like every song in Galavant where her voice changes pitch slightly and damn.
The way “sadness” is sung in Don’t Do Sadness. Also the strings.
The piano in Hurricane.
The thing they do in Stop the World with the turntable and the chairs and everyone singing in a really lovely harmony with just the perfect amount of dissidence and sweet damn I love everything about it.

Let’s Talk About Tina Goldstein

So lately I have been hearing people talk about how boring Tina was as a character and it absolutely blows my mind that so many people think this when I immediately thought she was one of the most well-developed and interesting characters of the movie. Since so many people seem to be of the same mindset about her character, I feel that I need to remain people of a few key things and point a few other things out.

Allow me to present the facts:

1. Tina is part of the law enforcement in the 1920s, and seems to be quite good at her job

Although it is evident that the magical community in America at this time displays less gender discrimination than the non-magical community, the fact that she became Auror is a feat of its own. We know from the Harry Potter series that becoming an Auror required extensive training and top marks in school, so this means that Tina is not only at least a decent student, but a highly trained wizard. She also seems to have been doing her job for quite some time, which means that she has experience. Another thing to note is that, even after she was removed from her Auror position, she still felt comfortable enough to approach her higher-ups when she took Newt to MACUSA. I mean, she literally walked straight up to Graves and the president of the American Wizarding Community and started talking. Although she was turned away, the fact that she felt comfortable enough to approach them indicates that prior to her removal, she was respected and treated as an equal. If that isn’t the case, her boldness in speaking to Piquery shows that she is very brave and has a heart to do the right thing. By Tina’s attempts to keep doing her job even after she has been fired, we can see that she both loves her job and knows that she needs to do the right thing, even when there are restrictions in the way.

2. Tina fought Grindlewald

I would like to start off by saying: WHY AREN’T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS.

I mean, come on. Tina went up against freaking Grindlewald one-on-one and held her own up until the point that he threw a freaking car at her. The fact that she was able to engage in a duel with him and nearly be successful in at least subduing him shows that Tina is indeed a powerful duelist and wizard as a whole. Grindlewald was considered the most powerful dark wizard besides Voldemort, and she actually faced him. Although she didn’t know Graves was actually Grindlewald, Tina had to have known that Graves was a powerful wizard from working with him, and the fact that she stood up to him is another show of her bravery.

3. Tina is occasionally emotionally vulnerable

So often in pop culture we define a strong female character as one who shows zero emotion and refuses to be scared, sad, or any emotion thereof. As stated in points 1 and 2, we already know that Tina is a badass, but the true depth of her character lies in that she is capable of kicking butt, but she also is not afraid to show when she is scared. In the scene where Tina and Newt are in the Death Chamber, Tina is visibly afraid and does not seem to make any attempt to hide it. Again, we later see that she is frightened when the lights go out in the street, and once more when she is facing Credence as the Obscurus. Besides fear, she displays a wide variety of other emotions throughout the movie, such as hope, calm, happiness, giddiness, embarrassment, annoyance, fondness, etc. Athough I am all for snarky females who don’t give a dang, Tina’s ability to show emotion is a breath of fresh air.

4. Tina calmed down Credence

And it would have worked too, if it weren’t for MACUSA’s interference. The fact that she was able to get Credence to trust her and listen to her shows a different depth of character that really doesn’t require explanation.

(side note: the fact that Tina is able to clam things down like Newt does with his animals really connects these two characters. Just sayin.)

5. Tina has a very close connection with her sister

The relationship between the Goldstein sisters is another thing we could microanalyze, but I think that their closeness is generally fascinating, even from a distance. For one, Tina does not really seem to envy her sister in any way, despite the fact that Queenie is a Legilimens and would have fit the “perfect beauty” of the time period. Tina does make a little quip once, but for the most part, Tina seems comfortable with who she is. Queenie also doesn’t seem to display any jealousy towards Tina, who is a powerful duelist and, as mentioned in point 1, seemingly well respected with higher-ups up until the point of her removal. Besides not showing jealousy, Tina looks out for her sister both physically and emotionally (as shown by her not wanting Queenie to get attached to Jacob when he will need to be obliterated). The sisters display a huge level of trust between the two of them throughout the whole movie, with their closeness being built on the fact that they raised each other after their parents’ passing. The fact that Tina is the older sister also shows that she probably grew up a bit too fast, and knows how to take care of herself.

Thus, I am continually confused by people who thought Tina was a boring or underdeveloped character when she is, in fact, a powerful duelist, a brave-hearted Auror, in touch with her emotions, a loving sister, a person who wants to do the right thing, and a generally caring person. Besides this, I thought she was funny at points, and Katherine Waterston did a wonderful job portraying this character. I think that J.K. Rowling left Tina plenty of room to grow and develop, and I look forward to seeing the role that she plays in future movies.

There are a lot more things I could have brought up, but this post was getting long. Feel free to add your own thoughts.

Homie out.

Yuri Pliesetsky is a closet Victuuri shipper - Proof

OK, aside from the obvious teenager-ashamed-of-his-parents thing, I think there is quite solid evidence that Yuri P ships Victuuri hard. This whole meta will end in the glorious scene below in Ep 11, so bear with me, bear with me.

I’ve always thought this scene is a bit odd. Slightly unnecessary, rude and extra, even for Yuri P. What is the point of doing this at all? Why not intimidate Victor and Yuuri at the same time instead, when Victor’s only sitting one seat away? Why frighten poor Sara instead? What is he trying to say?

Muahaha…..What else can be it other than the fact that he is a hardcore Victuuri shipper and wants to prevent anyone else from getting to Yuuri K?

Proof?

It all begins with Sara Crispino’s mini and quite obvious crush on Yuuri K. Not sure how deep this crush runs, but you see her trying to get Yuuri’s attention repeatedly. Also, note her constant presence around Yuuri during the banquet (ep. 10). –> This is not Sara!

So, let’s just safely assume that Sara’s interest in Yuuri K is  obvious and people kinda know about it. Including a short, angry Russian.

Now, in ep 11, after Yuuri K has finished his short program and Yuri P just broke the world record.

When Yuuri sits next to Sara, see how she blushes slightly:

Then, when even Chris scores higher than Yuuri K and he seems a bit upset, Sara notices this too and is about to say something (perfect time to comfort him?).

BUT is rudely interrupted by a certain somebody.

None other than the self-appointed guardian of Victuuri, of course.

Who sticks his feet between them to prevent any more conversations. Very specifically between Yuuri and Sara.

And his feet stay there throughout Otabek’s and JJ’s performance….

We could argue that it’s because Yuri P has a major major crush on Yuuri, and he probably did (keep 33 photos on your phone of half naked Yuuri for a year, why don’t you?!). But I think at this point he just seems very protective over Victor and Yuuri. And mostly Victuuri.
Knowing Sara’s obvious interest and Yuuri’s slightly ambiguous preferences, he might be playing it safe. He will do whatever it takes.

Go, guardian Yurio. -_-
May you keep this ship alive forever.

EDITS: A big thank you to everyone who noticed that the dark-haired girl in a blue dress is NOT Sara. My brain immediately equated anyone near Mila as Sara.

And sorry for calling her Sala……the way they pronounce it in the anime and the way it’s written in the subtitle is just permanently stuck in my head…………….but i know it makes no sense……
