i think it's as harry says

anonymous asked:

What makes you tnink Cheryl gave birth? Her 11 months pregnancy or the fact that you don't care about Liam?

😄 i don’t not care about liam but i think it’s pretty clear that this is a blog about louis and harry and i’ve always been very open about my lack of emotional connection to him. take your faux outrage elsewhere, thank you!

you know what would have been great? if ron got sorted into slytherin.

imagine– we have this kid on the train, the first friend harry meets, with his corned beef sandwiches and smudged nose. ron is eleven years old and he wants gryffindor, because he’s a weasley and that’s what always happens. but it doesn’t happen.

what a way to redeem slytherin house– or, god, at least complicate it. because ron is petty. he is mean and sharp and ambitious and jealous– and he is loyal to the ends of the earth. he is all those things, and he is and always has been good.

potter becomes before weasley in the alphabet, so harry says not slytherin please and gets told might as well be gryffindor. percy and fred and george are all sitting there in red and gold, ruffling the already-ruffled hair of the boy who lived, smug, and then ron sits down and the hat spits out slytherin!

c'mon it’d be fun. just imagine–

  • the weasleys freaking out– but even that first christmas molly sends him a sweater in beautiful green and silver.

  • snape taking points from gryffindor when ron breaks rules or mouths off. “i’m in your house.” “hm, couldn’t tell which weasley it was…” /drifts away

  • sitting with harry in potions and in flying– whatever classes they happen to share. meeting up to study. scarfing down their breakfasts at separate tables so they can go hang out in the empty classrooms before the day starts. hermione reads while they play exploding snap.
    • the trio signing up for all the same electives third year. this friendship being something they earn and work for; not just the one that looked easiest. (not to bash canon ron&harry, the bros to end all bros, but by putting this very obvious obstacle between them– it makes it that much clearer to the reader that this is a love worth fighting for, because they’re fighting for it).
    • ron being jealous that harry and hermione get to share this house, this home, these hours, while he’s stuck with malfoy and parkinson and goyle– because that would eat him up some days, some months, this insecure kid who’s been the last at everything all his life. this kid who always leaves and always comes back.

  • ron, who constantly compares himself to his brothers– not as smart, not as popular, not as good. one more nail in that coffin, here, yeah? he’s not a prefect, not a quidditch star, not a troublemaker– and even when he becomes those things, someone else has always gotten there first
    • well, i guess he got to this house first at least

  • ron still snaps at snape in potions, after hermione’s been ignored three times, “you know, sir, i think hermione might know the answer.” he still pulls the bars off harry’s window with a stolen, flying car. he still shows harry around the burrow shyly, not knowing what a wonder a warm home is. he still stands up in the shrieking shack as best as he can with a broken leg and tells a mass murderer that if he wants harry he’ll have to go through him first.
    • ron weasley is a lot of things, but one of them is absolutely a true friend.

  • in their second year:
    • when everyone calls harry the heir, they eye ron at his side and sniff.
    • when hermione lays petrified in the medical ward, ron sits at her side and reads her homework assignments aloud and thinks my house this was my house
    • when ron hugs ginny’s damp, shaking frame after the chamber, ron says sorry and sorry and are you okay and i’m so sorry and ginny calls him an idiot.

  • the trio spends more time in the library with hermione, since ron can’t come to gryffindor tower to study, and homework remains a thing that has to happen. fred and george constantly try to sneak him into the tower anyway.
    • “c'mon, ronnykins, you belong here, you deserve it, no one’s gonna fuss, it’s your BIRTHRIGHT,” and ron fusses and rolls his eyes at them
    • and then in fourth year in one of those periods where he’s not talking to harry and harry’s not talking to him– he just snaps at the twins
      • because it’s not, alright?
      • not his birthright, not his house, and maybe no one would fuss if he snuck in, maybe no one would care, and that makes it worse not better, because then he’s just that weasley who should’ve been gryffindor
      • and isn’t
    • (and harry overhears this caterwauling, feels his heart fall to his toes, and goes and awkwardly asks ron if he wants to go a few laps on his firebolt).
    • (because, god, harry-the-chosen-one, harry-in-the-cupboard-under-the-stairs, harry-who’ll-save-us-all– he knows what it’s like to have should have beens on your shoulders, and he knows what it’s like to not be wanted).

  • ron cheers for gryffindor during quidditch matches in those first few years, and sits with hagrid and hermione and neville. harry’s seeker, and fred and george are beaters, and ginny becomes chaser eventually, and honestly screw the slytherin team. they have each and every one of them said disparaging things about ron’s mother.
    • harry and hermione badger ron into trying out for keeper fourth year; he and harry have been practicing on the quidditch pitch because its a non-library-shaped place to hang out where both of them are allowed. ron makes the slytherin roster, and malfoy grudgingly provides ron a team broom after the captain chews him out for a bit.
      • “he may be a weasley, but he’s our keeper, don’t you want to win, draco”
    • but the sort of things they spit in the locker room, the words the players hiss or snigger, the slurs that come easy to their tongues– ron would like to say that he considered just walking out of the cesspit, but instead he snipes and sasses and shouts and sometimes tries to spell slugs at the worst of them.
      • it doesn’t do much, that one irritated voice of protest– except that it does. and he’s got a new (hand-me-down) wand, after the gilderoy fiasco, so the slugs even come out the right end.
    • fred gives him a black eye with a bludger one time (though ron does manage to block the quaffle) and molly sends a howler to gryffindor table with the morning post. (“RON DID YOU TATTLE”) (“IT WAS CLEARLY PERCY, FRED, SIT DOWN”)
      • (the weasleys often have family conversations across the great hall, with hufflepuffs and ravenclaws covering their ears long-sufferingly between them)

  • in the lake, it’s still ron hanging there in the water, still and bloated. it’s still harry’s heart that stutters in his chest, for all it’s just a game, just a game, just a game, right?

  • ron listens hard and tries to talk himself out of fist fights, all that next year in the slytherin common room as they read aloud rita skeeter articles.

  • when hermione calls dumbledore’s army to its first session in that pub, there are green scarves in that crowd– ron and one of the beaters who ron’s gotten to help glare to rest of the slytherin quidditch team into submission.

  • ron beats draco to being prefect (i think i remember it was dumbledore and not mcgonagall who seemed to award prefect status– snape doesn ’t get a say).
    • percy is SO PROUD, as usual, but so are fred and george. “did you see the little malfoy git? green with shame, my god.”

  • when harry has the dream about sirius, ron isn’t there to wake. but when draco’s pulled out of bed to be a professional bully– er, i mean inquisitorial squad member– ron follows at a careful distance and curses draco from behind.
    • they ride thestrals over london. harry finds the prophecy and ron thinks about the sorts of things that get decided at your birth.
    • sirius black was a son of slytherin who had a lion living in his chest that he couldn’t hide away.
    • ron was meant to be gryffindor, and through a haze of injury and fear he watches sirius die just out of harry’s reach.

  • just imagine: ron with his temper and his sharp words and his fierce loyalty. ron who looks into the mirror of erised and sees house cups and prefect badges and ambitions earned– he could belong in slytherin. there is nothing wrong with wanting things, and he wants them so bad.

  • there are so many reasons to fight a war, and so many ways. harry and his sacrifices, his loving resignation. hermione’s good right hook and bottomless bag of supplies. luna, brilliant and a bit batty. lee jordan’s radio and mcgonagall’s burning patience and brittle, certain bones.

  • just imagine: when the last battle comes, there is a slytherin on the field who is not snape.

  • when draco and his parents walk away, in that last battle, ron–
    • who slept in the same dormitory as the boy for six years
    • who heard draco’s nightmares and saw him paling and desperate all sixth year
    • who is as pureblooded as lucius’s spoiled whelp
    • who remembers grimacing at the thought of squibs
    • who has known magic all his life
    • who spotted draco penning letters home to his mother every sunday and hiding them when the other boys could see–
    • ron sees them going.
      • he sounds no alarms. he says no farewells.
      • he turns back to his friends, and his fight, and lets them be.

  • just imagine: when harry kneels on the train platform and his second son asks him “but what if i get sorted slytherin, dad?” harry can say, “the bravest man i ever knew was in slytherin house. whatever you are, wherever you go, we’re going to be so proud of you."
    • and they can both gaze over to where ron is squawking beside his daughter’s trolley of luggage because crookshanks (who will live to be forty eight million years old) has latched onto his shins with a violent fondness.

Programmers are praising Styles’ new direction, as the song starts at No. 29 on the Pop Songs chart.

“Sign of the Times,” Harry Styles’ solo debut single apart from One Direction, has soared onto pop radio.

After three full days of availability, “Sign” (released at midnight ET Friday, April 7, on Columbia Records), launches at No. 29 on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart dated April 22 (which encompasses plays on 167 U.S. mainstream top 40 stations, as measured by Nielsen Music, in the April 3-9 tracking week). It opens with nearly 2,000 detections at the format, translating to a pop radio audience of 16 million.

All charts will update tomorrow, April 11, on Billboard.com.

Programmers playing the song, which exudes a heaviness in both its rock-leaning sound and lyrics, say that even as it’s a departure from the gloss and tempo of much of today’s top 40, as well as 1D’s catalog, “Sign” is an obvious fit for the format. In fact, some say, it’s off to a good start in large part because of its distinctive feel.

“What a dynamic pivot. Mash The Beatles with Oasis and you’ve got Harry’s song,” says Kid Kelly, SiriusXM’s vp of music programming, which includes the pop-formatted Hits 1 channel. “Atypical? Perhaps. Forward-thinking? Absolutely. As far as the texture, outlier-styled songs have never frightened me, as it’s that uniqueness that I gravitate toward in hopes of providing maximum variety to our listeners.”

Phil Guerini, vp music strategy Disney Channels Worldwide and gm Radio Disney Networks, also asserts that “Sign of the Times” is atypical for the sound of many pop stations. “I not only think it can be a hit, but hope that it’s a massive one, in as much as it encourages other artists, labels and programmers to expand what is considered viable at mainstream radio today.”

Notably, Kelly, Guerini and other programmers played “Sign” in its original 5-minute, 40-second-long version Friday; “We’re all in or we’re not at all,” Kelly says. Columbia subsequently serviced a 4-minute, 8-second-long edit Saturday.

“There’s no question Harry wanted to make a statement and set himself apart from his past work,” says Chris Patyk, KEGY San Diego program director. Per that past, One Direction has tallied 13 Pop Songs entries, including three top 10s: its No. 3-peaking 2012 debut “What Makes You Beautiful”; “Story of My Life,” which hit No. 4 in 2014; and the No. 6 hit “Drag Me Down” in 2015. And, only one of those 13 songs started higher than the No. 29 bow for “Sign” (“Steal My Girl,” No. 27, 2014). “The response so far from our listeners is that they like ["Sign”] because it is different. A few weren’t One Direction fans to begin with and like the song.“ Looking ahead, Patyk says, "Ultimately, the listeners are our jury and, right now, there’s definite interest.”

“Sign” is a “great example of how music curators and music consumers don’t put boundaries on what a hit record is supposed to sound like,” muses Michael Martin, KMVQ San Francisco PD. “The only people putting music in lanes is the industry. Harry has come out of the solo gate with a rich, intricate and heartfelt smash. It’s bigger than any one format lane; it’s a cultural moment, which is what pop radio is supposed to capture.” - Billboard

It just ‘hit’ me that while we loved saying Harry (Styles) can’t act to save his life, and maybe for a handful of occassions that held some truth, but I think we can now confidently say he grew into it (or acting was just in the bag from the beginning) and in the moments when he “was obvious” and we were like “you’re not subtle Styles”, that was not a Harry Styles being a bad actor, but more like a Harry Styles fighting back. It wasn’t a Harry who couldn’t control himself. That was a Harry who didn’t want to control himself.

Big difference.

anonymous asked:

Amanda, I'm so glad you're back! I know it's open to interpretation, so that's why I am asking you, how do you interpret Sign Of The Times?

Okay well let me just say this is merely an opinion and I don’t really care to debate it because I’m not going to tell anyone what they should think the song means.

Anyway.

I think it’s a summary of pain. And trying to escape that pain. I personally don’t think it’s about one event, but about a bundle of different events that have been painful and the song is Harry trying to work through some of those things.

To me, he jumps around a bit and is a little too vague to be referencing a specific time or trauma, but is instead viewing the things that have hurt him over the years and trying to process them.

I do think death is one of those things. Harry has lost some people who were very near and dear to his heart, so I do think some of the lyrics reference his feelings on that. “You can’t bribe the door on your way to the sky” is an incredibly poignant lyric in regards to how we’re perceived after we die, in my opinion.

Probably the most intense lyric for me is “Just stop your crying, have the time of your life.” Because Harry is a super star, right? And superstars aren’t supposed to have problems. But his life has been tinged with bittersweet moments, because he’s a human being who has had painful life experiences in the midst of living a life most of us only dream of. He’s expressing that here.

Lastly of course, there’s the use of “we” that permeates the song and has been constant in his promo so far as well. He’s not experiencing these trials alone. It’s not “I’ve got to get away,” it’s not “I never learn, I’ve been here before,” it’s “we.” That is so hugely important. Who is “we?” Is it metaphorical or a symbolic, empty pronoun? I don’t think so, myself. Who is the person who has been by his side through all of his toughest moments? Who has told him that they know it’ll be alright? I have an obvious opinion on that!

Really though, the whole song is a masterpiece. It’s a lyrical explanation of dealing with the things that hurt you, of hoping for escape from pain and triumph over it. It’s amazing.

so i just had a really sad but also happy thought. what if one day harry comes home from a really horrible mission and fumbles with his key so he can get in to see draco and hug him but he’s really, really shaking. There’s a metallic clang as it slips through his fingers and falls to the floor and he sinks with it; his legs are refusing to hold him up for any longer.

He sits there for like half an hour? then his body collapses, dry sobs rattling his whole frame and he doesn’t even glance up when the door opens and a shocked draco rushes to kneel in front of him and hold him while harry tries to limit the shivers that rush through him as he recalls the churning that ran through his body as he lay in wait for yet another bastard that wanted him dead.

Draco strokes the back of his neck and traces soothing patterns on the back of Harry’s hand until at last, Harry inhales heavily and looks up at Draco. There are fresh tears in his eyes as he whispers: “i was so fucking scared draco, i was terrified”. He leans into him, clutching at draco’s shirt like it was a lifeline.

And that’s when draco decides he cant take this anymore. Harry is brave and kind and selfless and so full of love and he doesn’t deserve to ever feel scared again. “Why don’t you quit?”

“I cant, can I? It’s not all over yet.” Harry’s voice breaks as he lets out the pain that he feels each day as he enters a battlefield or a building filled with people who just either expect too much or want there to be a hole where Harry Potter once existed.

Draco takes both Harry’s hands and cradles them like they are the most precious thing to both of them. He lets one finger run round the wedding ring on Harry’s fourth finger.

“Harry, you’re brave and strong and wonderful, but these people you say you’re fighting for, you’ve done your part for them now. You’ve been saving them for years and years. You don’t owe anyone anything Harry, except yourself. You aren’t getting to live anymore, you work and work and at work all you seem to do is have to listen to more reasons people want you dead. I love you so much, and it.., it breaks my heart to have to see you like this. Please don’t stay there if its not what you really want. No one will think any less of you, and I.. I just want you to be happy and safe, with me, for as long as forever will let me.”

A small smile turns up the corners of Harry’s mouth. His eyes are glistening, but there’s a small glimmer of hope that’s buried itself in there now.

“I think I need to owl Mcgonagall back about that teaching position.”

I think it's reaaally unfair how people are generalising larries and saying they don't love H and it's really offensive to me bc i am one and I love Harry more than I love anyone else. im not trying to be rude, I swear but I'm just saying, people should think before they make hurtful generalisations

If you actually had any love or respect for Harry you wouldn’t BE a “larrie” and you wouldn’t assume everything he has told you about himself is a lie. So I’m sorry if you’re young or impressionable right now, and I don’t want to be mean to you, but please take a step back and realize that what you support is hurting him and his family and friends. Stop believing in shit that’s not real! The actual real stuff that Harry does is SO GOOD stop being brainwashed by a bunch of assholes who want to use slow motion gifs of 16 year old Harry to get their rocks off. So in short, no I don’t think people are being too mean.

i don’t understand how some of you can sit here and try to force this mind set on people to believe that harry is doing this whole big solo thing when actually hes been doing nothing extra so far & doing a normal single release (just a little more dramatic and artsy) and that hes trying to erase himself from the band or trying to move on and forget the past / the boys and trying to convince everyone that hes the one ending the band when

1.) the band has been on hiatus since the end of 2015
2.) harry could’ve been a solo artist since like 2013 but never left the band
3.) its been over a year since the band went on break and hes just now releasing music, if he wanted to be the next jt he would’ve did it like a month after the break
4.) he explained in his magazine how they are on break and doing their own things
5.) he also explained in his magazine how this band was the best thing that ever happened to him
6.) just because hes being over hyped by his friends and the media doesnt mean harry asked / wanted them too, they have been over hyping everything he does for attention since xfactor tbh why is everyone acting surprised now ???
7.) he supported niall on his single, he supported louis at the xfactor with his new single
8.) the team (jeff & co) you are saying are encouraging the harry + ot3 hate were also the ones tweeting for 1d to win a brit rmbr ??? like ???

also did everyone forget that the boys all just wished him happy birthday publicly, even louis, louis !!! who hasnt tweeted harry publicly since like what 2013 or 14 i think like ??? if harry was this hot shot who wanted nothing to do with them they would’ve ignored him and not posted anything like they do on zayns birthday :) sooo i think that until harry says himself that hes over 1D (like zayn did when he went solo) im going to ignore this negativity around him because he doesnt deserve it, its not his fault that they put this image on him, he deserves a chance like niall and louis to be listened to and supported like we havent even heard him fucking speak yet and everyone is already turning on him relax, breathe, jesus christ.

anonymous asked:

How many times has Harry woken up Louis, cleared his throat all serious, gotten down on one knee saying "I have something important to say, love". And when Louis is awake enough to think this might be yet another proposal (he hopes it isn't bc it's too damn early and he doesn't want to start his day crying not matter how happy the occasion) Harry goes "roses are red, violets are blue, your turn to make breakfast, don't burn the pancakes, Lou". Louis wishes it had been another proposal.

I don’t think people realize how much things would change if BG ended. Streams/sales would go up; not just for Louis, but for Harry and Niall (and the band). Fandom participation would skyrocket, probably moreso than it’s been seen since the hiatus. People would actually be engaged, and /want/ to be engaged and not feel like its a chore or a mental exercise to be here. Fandom projects would explode; SOTT/JHO /and/ This Town would likely peak the charts again. And /so/ many louies/larries new and old would come out of the woodwork, like. BG ending would change everything, and I don’t say that lightly. Because all sides of this fandom have grown used to an existence that relies on how Much BG is happening. Had they ended it a week after the story broke, it wouldn’t have made a dent, and would probably have been memed and forgotten, but BG has been all-consuming for two years now, like a spiraling black hole. And if they were to shut that hole down, man… that would feel like actually getting the ground back under our feet and seeing where to go from there. BG changed this fandom and I don’t know if it’ll be the same again but we need to find out. *** **

Discussing your first time with Draco
  • You: I think it's time we take things a little further Draco
  • Draco: I wonder if Harrys taken it a little further?
  • You: ... As I was saying I think we should-
  • Draco: Add harry into the equation.
  • You: Draco, this is about me and you-
  • Draco: And Harry

Angie @sslarrysettingsail just made a good point in her tags and I think it’s very likely the case. Just as louis never mentioned harry by name but mentioned the others, harry never really says louis’ name. And it could be because, when they mention a name, it might trigger the interviewer to ask follow up questions specifically about that person. It would be much easier to avoid other topics they don’t want to discuss if the name isn’t even put out there on the table.

anonymous asked:

I don't think you understood that ask. People (at least the ones I follow) don't doubt harry's love for the band. They're annoyed that his team, his T E A M seems to be following the harry vs ot3 story. This is about what the media will say about this and not that we think harry hates the boys. It's the media and it's the perspective the gp will have with this

i understand that you’re saying this is harry’s team continuing to foster the image that harry himself has done everything he could to destroy. i’m saying he deleted EVERYTHING off his facebook. it’s not like he went on facebook and deleted their group photos or deleted everything during his time during one direction but only kept up dunkirk stuff or even anything like that. he literally just wiped it clean. that’s it??? and he’s never used facebook before for promo related items, and now his facebook is the only social media platform where they made an actual post about the snl performance - it seems like it’ll take a much larger emphasis in the future when it never has in the past (or at least for the past several years). why is it so wrong that they just wiped it clean?? it makes it easier to keep updated with the stuff that he’s doing right now. it looks better in this way, in my opinion, as the last post was what? from november 2015?? it keeps the page looking fresh for updates on his solo career, which he can certainly use that platform for, it doesn’t have correlation to him dissing the band or his team trying to imply that he dissed the band. at all.

if his team was fostering the harry v ot3 image, they wouldn’t have tweeted about the brits. harry’s social media presence is incredibly controlled right now - they could have not had him tweet his thanks or tweet his support to niall. he did. he talked about how much he loved the band in his am interview. and i’m sure in interviews to come, he’ll talk more about how much he loves the band. and i guarantee you the gp is not going on his facebook and thinking “hey why doesn’t he have any pictures of 1d” they are just going to assume that it’s been created for his solo endeavors. most fans didn’t even know he had a facebook because he so rarely use it. him wiping it clean to use for promotional purposes from here on out =/= fostering a harry v ot3 narrative

anonymous asked:

Is wearing a high fashion menswear shirt really saying fuck gender norms and heteronormativity though?? Why??

I think it’s more than just wearing a shirt, but it is one part of a larger piece of what Harry has been doing for a few years now.

Harry, in many of his public choices, is not going along with traditional gender roles. Most recently for example, his album art is primarily in a shade of pastel pink. He’s covered in flowers. These are traditionally ‘feminine’ things. But Harry is just doing what he likes and what he thinks is beautiful regardless of whether or not it’s ‘fem’. He’s a man who confidently loves the color pink.

So when people see him wearing a beautiful magenta floral silk shirt with a bow and literally say, “omg he’s literally showing us how gay he is” that’s heteronormativity at play, even if people think they are being supportive. Does wearing a high fashion shirt really ‘out’ himself as gay? I don’t think so. He’s just doing what makes him happy. We don’t know his sexuality 100% and we don’t need to, so putting anything on him saying “that’s something a gay man would do” or “that’s something a straight man would do” is wrong and ultimately unimportant.

He’s just Harry Styles. And he’s doing a hell of a lot being just that.

“True Friend”

….

You were sitting on the corner of the couch, surrounded by your friends who were supposed to be over for a movie night. After moving in with Harry and starting a new job, it had been pretty difficult to get to know new people. He had encouraged you to start hanging out with some girls from work so you weren’t so lonely when he was gone for the day, so you’d invited them out for dinner one night and things had progressed from there. But not necessarily in a good way.

You had always been paranoid that people didn’t like you. The slightest glare or sarcastic comment had you worrying that there was just something about you people had a problem with. However, this was different; these girls pretended they wanted to hang out when all they really cared about was belittling you. You weren’t sure if you really hadn’t caught on until recently, or if you were just in denial the whole time.

“Let’s just save the movie for another night and head to the bar!” One of them suggested, and the others cheered in agreement. Your heart sank, because you’d put a lot of planning into that movie night and hoped it would help change their minds and show them that you were just as ‘cool’ as they were.

You tried to protest, but it seemed that once the idea of getting drunk off their asses was in their minds, they weren’t going to be able to let it go.

“I mean, we can just go without you. It’s not like you’ll be much fun, since you’re in a ‘committed’ relationship and everything. I mean, you usually don’t get much attention from guys anyway.”

The way they all giggled after the last comment made you wonder what else had been said about you behind your back. As much as you didn’t want to let it affect you, their words stung. You were in an even worse mood now than you had been before, and you definitely didn’t want to spend any more time around them, so you halfheartedly told them to head out without you. They were out the door within minutes, leaving you alone to pick up the empty soda cans and rethink your idea of ordering pizza for dinner.

It wasn’t long before Harry came home, and he tentatively walked down the hallway expecting to see a big group of girls giggling on the couch. Instead, he found you curled up in a blanket alone while he tossed his keys onto the kitchen table.

“Where is everyone?”

You put on the most realistic smile you could manage, and turned around to meet his confused gaze.

“They decided to head to a bar.”

“You didn’t want to go?”

You shrugged nonchalantly, trying not to let on that anything was wrong.

“I’m just tired, that’s all. I wasn’t in the mood for drinking tonight.” You lied. You weren’t in the mood for drinking, that was true, but only because you got the feeling they didn’t want you to go anyway. Your time at the bar most likely would’ve been filled with their nasty comments, and you probably would’ve been forced to stand alone while they danced with anyone they could get their hands on.

Harry sat down next to you and cautiously placed his hand on your leg, studying the look on your face. He could tell you weren’t happy, but he didn’t really consider the fact that your 'friends’ were the reason you had seemed a little off lately. He’d believed you when you insisted that you were just stressed and overwhelmed after the move.

“Are you sure everything’s okay?” He asked.

You nodded convincingly and looked into his caring eyes. You knew you wouldn’t be able to resist breaking down if you stayed close to him much longer, so you quickly stood up off the couch before tears could well up and made your way to the kitchen before you spoke again.

“I was planning to get pizza for everyone, do you want me to order some for just us?”

He gave his approval and you were quick to dial the phone number before Harry could ask you what was wrong again. By the time you were off the phone, though, he was standing in front of you with his hands on his hips.

“Are you gonna tell me what’s going on?” He prodded. He had a serious expression on his face, but you knew by the look in his eyes that he was genuinely concerned.

“Baby, I’m fine. Just bummed I didn’t get to watch that movie.” You joked, managing a small laugh as you turned back to him and smiled.

You knew he wasn’t entirely convinced, but he could tell that you didn’t want him to press it any further. If something was really wrong, he was confident that you’d tell him whenever you were ready.

“We can still watch the movie.” He suggested quietly, not waiting for an answer before he went to spread some blankets and comfier pillows over the couch.

You managed to watch the entire movie without being distracted by the situation from earlier, but the ringtone of your phone made the bitter feeling come back again. You answered the phone as cheerfully as you could, not totally surprised when you recognized the slurred voices of the girls you were trying to forget about.

You managed to decipher their speech enough to know that they needed a ride home, and of course they hadn’t hesitated to call you and use you as their chauffer.

“I’ve gotta go pick them up, they’re wasted.” You sighed, pushing your blanket aside as you unhappily unraveled yourself from Harry’s arms.

“Do you want me to go with you?”

You quickly shook your head as you slipped on your jacket and shoes, assuring him you’d be fine and it shouldn’t take more than an hour. Truthfully, you were just afraid of what they’d say to you now that the last little sliver of good judgement had been taken away by alcohol, and you didn’t want Harry to know that the only friends you made since moving here weren’t friends at all. It was almost like you failed.

The drive to the bar wasn’t long, and as soon as it came into view you could see the familiar figures standing outside. They clumsily piled into your car, giggling while they all tried to speak at once.

“What are you wearing?” One of them asked from the back seat, and you sighed when you realized you hadn’t changed out of Harry’s shirt and sweatpants before you left. You certainly wouldn’t hear the end of it, but you hoped none of them would remember by the next morning.

“Hey, that’s Harry’s shirt! I’m surprised it fits you! He’s so thin and you’re… not.”
They all erupted in laughter and you tried to take a few deep breaths as you drove off. The entire car ride was filled with their snide comments and them constantly trying to talk over eachother’s slurs.

It seemed like it took hours to drop them all off, but you were on your way home in record time when you finally let some tears fall. You couldn’t believe these were the only people you could call friends. There was nobody else you’d met that seemed remotely interested in talking to you, and you were terrified you’d have to spend the rest of your life with no one else but those girls to spend time with.

You drove around the block a few times while you tried to calm down, but it finally become clear that you had no choice but to tell Harry. It would be much too painful to keep this inside forever, and knowing Harry, he’d probably know exactly what to do.

You unlocked the door, wiping a few tears from your cheeks but deciding you wouldn’t bother trying to hide the fact that you were upset. As you stepped inside, Harry rounded the corner.

“I made some ice cream sundaes if you want to- hey…” He immediately frowned when he saw your tear stained cheeks and sad eyes.

You sniffled as he walked over to you and tilted his head a bit while he waited for you to say something. What he didn’t expect was for you to fling yourself into him, but he was quick to wrap his strong arms around you and hold on tight.
Once your cries and sniffles had quieted down a little, he kept you tightly pressed to him while he looked down at you and spoke.

“What’s wrong?” He asked carefully, afraid to set you off into another round of crying if you tried to explain. By now, he was pretty sure he knew the source of your sadness lately but he didn’t want to push you any farther than you were ready for at the moment. You backed up to look up at him but quickly avoided his gaze.

“I think I need to talk to you about something.”

You could see him tense a little, because you knew it always scared him whenever you acted serious about things like this. You were generally a pretty laid back person, so if there was something you really needed to speak to him about, it usually meant it was a pretty big deal.

He slung his arm around you as he led you to the couch and invited you to sit on his lap. You cuddled into Harry’s chest and his arms held you close to his body, while he rested his cheek on top of your head.

“This is about the girls, isn’t it?” He finally prodded. All he got in response was a teary eyed look from you, and he knew he was right when the wetness threatened to spill down your cheeks again. He stared at you sadly, wiping a few tears that fell before you were ready to speak.

“They’re not my real friends, Harry.” You sniffled, leaning back against him as you watched for a reaction. He nodded slowly, rubbing his hand gently up and down your back.

“You could’ve told me.”

You frowned as you turned to look at him again and saw his eyes filled with complete concern and sadness.

“I know, but I just.. I have no friends, Harry!” You whined, hiding your face in his neck while the emotions seemed to hit you all over again.

If his heart wasn’t broken already, it definitely was now. Obviously he’d meant no harm when he encouraged you to make friends, and he never wanted you to feel down about yourself if things didn’t work out as expected.

“Baby, no, it’s okay. Don’t cry over them.”

He held you tight until you had calmed down again. He didn’t want to ask what was said during the car ride, and he didn’t want to know what else they’d put in your head over the past month. So you both sat in silence for a while until you finally looked up at him.

“I don’t want you hanging around them anymore, okay?”

You normally would’ve argued, but you knew you’d be much happier if you never had to see them outside of work again. Now that the barrier had been broken and Harry knew the truth about them, there was no sense in keeping up the charade that you actually enjoyed their company.

Your comment from a few minutes earlier hadn’t been forgotten; he kept hearing you say “I have no friends” over and over again in his head and it was making his heart hurt.

“And I don’t ever want to hear you say you have no friends, okay?” His voice had the sweetest, most gentle tone possible and when you opened your mouth to speak, he knew exactly what you were going to say. So when it slipped out that you really didn’t have any friends, he had the perfect response.

“You’ve got me.” He argued, pressing his lips to the top of your head.

“I know it’s not the same, but I love all the girly gossip and random stories you tell. And you know I’m always here for advice when you need it and I won’t mind those awful movies you girls watch, because I’ll always enjoy watching them with you. I know I’m your boyfriend and that’s not quite the same as being your friend, but I’m always going to be here for you, angel.”

The end of his rambling had you smiling up at him.

“You’ve always been my best friend, Harry. My true friend.”
