i think i'm in the wrong country

Important PSA from Yana

Quick translation:

“Like I tweeted recently, Japanese culture and the culture of other countries are different, the way they reply [to my tweets] or their stance on fan activities are different, too, and I don’t think any of this is wrong. However, regardless of country [of origin], revealing any new information of Kuroshitsuji before the 18th is not official, but illegal. I’d be glad if people understand that such action is wrong. - Toboso.”

...or, you know, some of us think Cap is and was right about the whole thing because we're also opposed to the real-world implementation of similar fascist legislation such as The Patriot Act and it has nothing to do with liking him more?

That quote basically says, yes oversight is the right ethical and logical choice, but Cap is a good person, and that puts us in a quandary and I am saying that that is bad math.

It’s also a similar bad math that comes up in A LOT of 616 CW discussions, where Captain America himself (and the anti-reg side) essentially takes the position to non-metas that they should accept that metas occupy a position above the law/beyond equal prosecution by the law, because, you know, they’re different, and their circumstances are different, but you trust CAPTAIN AMERICA, riiiiight? Let the metas judge their own and police their own, what do you need the Constitutional right of equality under the law for? Obviously, this base position is immediately complicated by the clusterfuck of everything else in CW, but I’d argue that that’s deliberate. It’s one of the reasons I’m not a fan of the event, because I really like Cap, and I hate the things it makes him argue and I find them antithetical to him as a character.

I also don’t exactly get why so many people find a difference of opinion on a comics event, or, apparently, an actor’s opinion on an upcoming film none of us have seen as a personal challenge? I mean?? Yes I hate fascism? And the Patriot Act? And I think Cap’s political position is largely wrong in CW though I understand why, as the plot is manipulated, he fights? These things are not incompatible?

I get what you’re saying, but I’m responding to the quote as written and many, *many* other posts and comics CW itself, which initially sets up the problem as a constitutional legal problem of supers as American citizens whose identities allow them to avoid legal repercussions and prosecution and that’s constitutionally unacceptable under the law. Once that actually gets stated, there’s a problem.

I’m not talking about the Patriot Act here, which I abhor, because it wasn’t part of the quote or what I was responding to, and I think the CW treatment of post-9/11 politics was really terrible, tone-deaf, and inconsistent in its understanding of xenophobia** and power dynamics.

I’m actually so glad that Youngjae is moving out of the dorms to live with his brother because I’m sure it was a hard decision and he’ll be happier and less homesick now he’s with his family. Also it’s not like he’s never going to see or speak to got7 again, they’ll want him to be comfortable and feel at home wherever he goes. I think it’s gross that some people are saying he shouldn’t move out and acting like he’s betraying the group?? Like how is spending more time with your family in any way going against the best interests of got7???

I just want the boy happy, healthy and well fed and I’d even be fine with him moving to a different country if he said it was what was best for him 💖🌼

Maybe we don’t end up together. Maybe that’s not how the story ends. But ten years from now I’ll still be thinking about you when I can’t sleep at night. I’m still going to think of our memories when everything goes wrong. You’re still going to be my safe place. It doesn’t matter if we live in different cities or countries. It wouldn’t matter if you moved to the moon. You will always be my home.

I'm in a headcanon/ficlet mood...what are some of your favourite headcanons for Johnlock??

Ohhh Nonny, I’m no writer……but let me think

- I think John’s a cuddler and once he’s allowed he’ll cuddle Sherlock all over, in the kitchen, on the couch, in bed. So. Much. TOUCHING!

- I believe in switchlock. There’s no top or bottom with them. They just love touching each other and being together.

- Both John and Sherlock are possessive PDAers. Hand holding, sitting with arm around the shoulders, hand on the small of the back, quick kisses etc. Gatta prove “he’s mine!!”

- Once together they waste no time getting married. John wants something super small courthouse style (after the first big disaster) but Sherlock wants to show off, so they compromise and have a smaller wedding with all their friends there and take lots of pictures with a non-murderous photographer.

- The Sex Holiday is long and they don’t see much of the cities they visit.

- Once back they waste no time getting both a dog and cat. (there is no Rosie in my mind. Sorry/not sorry)

- I think John did have an asshole homophobic father, and he spends the rest of his life with Sherlock proving to himself how very wrong his dad was.

- I see John as the best man and Sherlock as the man of honor at Greg and Molly’s wedding.

- Of course they get the house in the country with bees, duh.

- There’s no Eurus, Moriarty is dead, Mary was a villain all along and is dead/in prison just GONE.

- And they live happily ever after solving crimes and being jerks together 💖

How bout you? What are your head canons?

ok, i'll try again. why are true crime bloggers so against the capital punishment? i'm as interested in tc as anybody else but i strongly support death penalty in certain cases ( brutal murders, serial killers etc.). i don't view it as revenge, it's JUSTICE. why do you think a person that took many lives, ended many people's dreams hopes thoughts 'just like that' has a right to live? in my opinion, he doesn't.

I’ve explained why I’m against the death penalty over and over again which is why I ignored your ask. How is killing people to show that killing people is wrong logical? It isn’t just crime bloggers - look how many states and countries have abolished the death penalty. In a modern-day society, most can see that capital punishment is archaic.

Why support a racist, bias, and hypocritical system which has seen innocent people executed as opposed to one which has the same outcome - life imprisonment gets the killer off the street and sees justice served. Do you know POC are sentenced to death at an alarming disproportionate rate to whites? Why support that? Furthermore, it isn’t about who deserves to live or die but how we should not have the right to decide someone else’s fate, period.

When you support the death penalty, you do not pick and choose which aspects you support.

What pisses me off is Sana explained so thoroughly how their experiences with hate is NOT the same and how just because of looks alone Isak is at an advantage, and yet he chooses to ignore all that and says “They’re not really racist!! They’re just willfully ignorant and hateful and it’s YOUR job to suck the hatred out of them by being NICE to people who are HORRIBLE to you!”

I’m sorry but, he really has no idea what the hell he’s going on about….like don’t get me wrong I understood the “heart” of the conversation and the sentiment behind it, but it was soooo wrong to have a white man telling a muslim WOC that we’re the ones who go “looking for hate” instead of the reality where hate is directed at us 24/7 for simply the way we look. (Portland attack)

I’m sorry Isak but it’s NOT my responsibility to educate those who hate me. And even if it was, it can get exhausting to be a “teacher” to racists and Islamophobes all day long when do you know what? They don’t even want to learn, all they want is for me “to get the fuck out of their country and go back to the desert.”

Overall I’m thankful he took the blame for Sana and I still think he’s a good friend, I just wish he didn’t dismiss her experiences as woc so badly because that’s exactly what he did. It wasn’t advice (which I would’ve understood trust me I would) but instead he spoke over her, ignored her concerns and ultimately invalidated her rightfully hurt feelings.

Now, this is regarding all the Zarya talk that's been going on. I can't really see Zarya as anything but straight--but here's my reason why. She grew up in Russia, one of the most anti-LGBT places. She would be convinced that being gay would be wrong (I'm not saying she couldn't change, but seeing as she keeps her grudge against all omnics, even if they never participated in the omnic war, and are nice, I don't think she'd change her views) I'm just trying to be more realistic in this sense.

Just because Russia is currently a country that is anti-LGBTQ+ does not mean that LGBTQ+ people do not live there. They can’t be open about their sexuality, but they still very much exist. Sure, you can argue that Zarya’s parents could have possibly tried to instill homophobic sentiments within her as she grew up, but that’s not going to stop her from being interested in women if she’s actually a lesbian.

Also, Overwatch takes place in the year 2070; who’s to say that homophobia is still an issue for Russia at the time? The country could’ve made a lot of progress over those 50-60 years, thus making it acceptable for Zarya to be interested in women. Regardless, I don’t think her country of origin would play a factor in whether or not she’s a lesbian. In countries where being on the LGBTQ+ spectrum is frowned upon or illegal, that doesn’t mean every single person living there is cis het.

anonymous asked:

I'm tired of Muslims being demonized like this. A lot of Muslim countries are working towards being more progressive and it sickens me when people still bring up Sharia law and terrorism because so many Muslims are not terrorists and would never dream of it and only extremely conservative Muslim countries follow sharia law...

I think that the key difference that everyone needs to remember is not to demonise individual Muslims as people, or automatically presume that someone is “bad” if they follow Islam – that’s clearly anti-Muslim bigotry and totally wrong – but it is fair to reasonably criticise Islam as an ideology the same way that we should be able to reasonably criticise any faith as an ideology, and accept that there are issues within Muslim communities the same way that there are issues in all other religious communities.

Obviously not all Muslims are terrorists and it’s totally wrong to say that. The problem with Islam is that there hasn’t been a reformation the same way that there’s been reformation with the likes of Judaism and Christianity.

For example: I and everyone with any sense recognises that there is some really awful things in the Torah and outside of the tiny fringe of extremist Jews, even the most Orthodox ignore them. Only utterly extreme Jews want to go around stoning people for breaking Shabbat. And even then, they’re completely condemned and seen as insane by the vast, vast majority of Jews.

But with Islam, because there hasn’t been reformation, the worst verses aren’t (almost) universally recognised as such. Because the words in the Qu’ran are seen as “perfect,” there’s no margin of error, and the Muslims that sit and say, “Yeah, that bit’s not right, we should just ignore that,” are often attacked for doing so.

Original Jewish law is totally outdated and if we followed the whole of that, we’d be barbaric, the same with original Christian law. Sharia law is no different, and there are real issues with Muslims that follow Sharia law even in places like the UK.

It’s a horrible fact to note, but right now, Islam is the cause of a hell of a lot of terrorism. If it wasn’t, terrorists would be shouting and blaming imperialism or whatever else when they carry out their evil acts, but they don’t. Islamic terrorists are manipulated into committing atrocities because radicalisers tell them that by doing those awful things, they’re being “good Muslims.” When people from the likes of the UK are sneaking out of the country to join ISIS, it’s because they’ve been convinced that living in a Western country is making them “bad Muslims.”

Away from Islam itself – because there will always be good and bad people in every single faith, and Islam isn’t special as far as that’s concerned – what’s caused a lot of backlash is the desperation of both Muslims and non-Muslims to pretend that Islam itself is perfect and that Islamic terrorism isn’t “really” Islamic, when that’s very obviously untrue. Most of that desire comes from a good place. It’s badly thought-out, but it’s people basically wanting to protect the good Muslims and separate them from the bad. It just hasn’t worked.

You see, the Westboro Baptist Church is Christian. You’ll hear other Christians say “They’re not acting like true Christians,” but there’s no huge drive to pretend that the WBC isn’t Christian at all. Everyone knows that they’re Christian. They use the Bible to push their disgusting agenda. They’re using their Christianity to preach bigotry, but they absolutely believe that they’re being good Christians when doing so.

The thing is, I’m genuinely convinced that the only way that things will change is if more Muslims stand up and say that Islamic terrorism is wrong. Saying things like, “That’s not Islamic,” or “Those terrorists aren’t really Muslim” and trying to push that idea just doesn’t work. The “But terrorists mostly kill other Muslims” doesn’t work either, because it isn’t Muslim killing Muslim, it’s, sadly, “True Believer killing Apostate,” it’s “Sunni vs Shia” and then both against Ahmadi.

And don’t get me wrong. There are absolutely Muslims that stand up and speak out, but then they get death threats from other Muslims. They’re attacked and dismissed as not being “real” Muslims. There’s a huge culture of fear.

You know, in all my time on Tumblr, I’ve only ever had one positive interaction with a Muslim user, which later turned out to be null and void. I’ve had a grand total of three private conversations.

The first was friendly in private for months and then unfollowed me, blocked me and went on a rant about how evil Jews were on their blog.

The second was friendly, but told me that we had to be enemies because the Qu’ran said that we’d always be enemies.

The third was fine, until she returned and told me to delete all positive interactions with her on my blog because her husband hates Jews.

I have never, at any time, had an ask, even anonymously, from a Muslim that has said something as simple as, “I think antisemitism is wrong.” I’ve never had a private message from a Muslim saying that they want to offer support with no caveats.

What I do see, constantly, is maybe a handful of virtue-signalling “Reblog if you’re against antisemitism” posts on Muslim blogs before they then go into rants and spread antisemitism through lies or conspiracy theories “because Israel.” And I know for a fact that there will be plenty of Muslim bloggers on this site that are decent and hate all forms of bigotry, but I’d bet my last penny that they’re too scared of fellow Muslims to admit what they really think, so they keep quiet.

It’s a community issue. I’m sorry to have to say that Muslims need to do more. And I feel that I can say that because I’m fairly well-known by now, and every time I see the Jewish community on here being awful, I damn well make sure to say something about it, call out their intolerance or bigotry, and then stand by my principles, those other Jews be damned.

I know that you want to defend your fellow Muslims. That’s admirable, it really is. But if all you’re going to do is dismiss very relevant and real issues, all that anyone is going to see is that you want to ignore the bad and pretend only the good exists. And, as wrong as it is, that fuels the really horrible and hateful side of the political right wing, because they often use it as an excuse to generalise against people.

I mean, let’s be blunt here. I’m Jewish. There’s a huge amount of antisemitism in Muslim communities. I’ve experienced a ton of antisemitism from Muslims in the real world. They’re not isolated. They’re British citizens and, on quite a few occasions, were great, ordinary people until they realised that I was Jewish. So there’s a problem there. I don’t want to demonise all Muslims, far from it. But to be frank with you, I would genuinely appreciate it if there were even one or two Muslims that were happy to put a url to “It sucks that you went through that and those people were bad, antisemitism is wrong,” and nothing else, but I genuinely have never had that and that’s really saddening.

There are issues about anti-LGBT-phobia and sexism in non-Reform and non-Liberal Jewish communities. There are issues about racism in different Jewish communities. I’m against circumcision and kosher slaughter, and I count those as issues, too.

I can’t pretend that there aren’t issues in Judaism and Jewish communities. I can’t pretend that the Neutrei Karta or other Jewish terrorist groups aren’t actually Jewish. I can’t pretend that the fundamentalists that use the Torah to an extreme aren’t Jewish. I also can’t pretend that it’s unfair to reasonably criticise those things.

And honestly, in regards to Islam and Muslim communities, you can’t pretend, either.

"It's not stolen land if a country won it in war" I'm having a rly hard time coming up with a comeback to this? Can u help me out? I know it's wrong but I can't think of an argument against it because it kinda makes sense...?

It ‘makes sense’ because that’s how the accepted narrative of Western history is written, from antiquity to the 20th century. The thing about colonialism is a lot of it is framed as conquest, shifting what was often a wildly asymmetrical total war to a fight between rival powers. As to their premise, I’d ask exactly how wars are ever legitimate, and if this legitimacy extends to ruthless expansionism, exploitation, and genocide.

It also contributes to one of the moral cornerstones of a nation’s ideology, particularly that of the US. America presents itself as the great experiment of democracy, and generally standing upon the moral high ground – the only reason these points aren’t completely laughable to every citizen is a carefully constructed national mythology where everything leading up to the present appears justified. Idealized histories that gloss over atrocities and stress patriotic sentiments will naturally lead to this particular brand of this ‘consequentialist’ rationalization.

-Greg

Stop it. Just stop.

This has been bothering me for quite some time already. And I don’t know how to fight against this. (I won’t be telling around any names or gender. Even at a topic like this, I don’t wanna harm anyone)

A while ago, I got a message from someone on Wattpad with just “You’re so disgusting.”

Of course, my anxiety got from ‘already high’ to 'ya gotta faint gurl’ after reading this. I’m always concerned about what people think about me, and it’s a bad habbit I know. Getting such a text suddenly was really driving me mad.

I answered them tho because I got really curious. They almost immediately answered with a text like “Your story is disgusting! How can you be so disgusting shipping Sasuke and Naruto! Sasuke is mine! I’m his wife!” They just fucking went full ham on me.

It almost made me laugh. I had one single story uploaded with that ship, and it’s almost already 4/5 years old. I’m not in that fandom anymore.

Of course I responded politely that I don’t get their point in flaming other people for their preferences and that I’m not into that ship anymore and that I only left that story up because people seemed to have enjoyed it. At this point, they talked with me like with a normal human being again. Didn’t think much about it at first… but it really kept bothering me later on. I was angry at them of course, and as far as I know, I wasn’t the first one who got attacked. They literally surfed around on the SasuNaru tag to fucking shit on other people. I don’t get that behavior. Neither I’ll tolerate that. That’s why I blocked them after a while. But I didn’t think that shit will go in that direction.

But now, some time later, I looked at their profile again. Out of curiosity. And what the fuck do my eyes see there? The most disgusting homophobic shit I’ve ever seen.

That shit right here made me mad as fuck. And I know it will make you mad as well.

  • It’s not okay to be homophobic. Don’t judge people in their preferences.
  • They clearly were hurting others by basically calling them disgusting and trash. But really, who’s the disgusting one in this situation here?
  • “just give a shit about school” Uhm no. How about fucking nO. I mean if you yourself want to 'shit on school’, go for it. But who the heck are you to tell people around, giving out bad advices no one wants to hear?

Even if they wanted to be 'inspirational’ and shit, that’s the wrong way to approach that. Why do they message people around in the first place, spreading even more hate across the world?

It makes me sick to think that this person is living in the same country as I am, where gay marriage became an actual thing not that long ago.

Sorry for any mistakes in this.

Do you think that taylor will leave Big Machine Records since her contract is about to end (if I'm not wrong Scott. B said somewhere) or will she renew the contract? Like BMR is essentially a country record label but taylor has gone pop but at the same time taylor has a whole team of trust-worthy, capable people there too so I'm 50/50 on this. Your thoughts?

If I had to guess, I’d say she’s likely to stay with Big Machine. It is a country label, but she has the full power of Republic (and also, to an extent, Universal) behind her combined with all the artistic freedom that she wants and a really good deal (better than most, supposedly) on revenue-sharing. Why leave that behind? If she went to UMG or Republic or elsewhere she’d stand to lose significant freedom and power without gaining anything, you know? At Big Machine she basically runs the show herself for her work. Why give that up?

I almost want to cry, bc things like this make me even sometimes being ashamed of being Ukrainian, bc people think that my country is the worst, is boring, is stupid...

Please don’t be ashamed of being Ukranian. Last year ORF was also criticized and it’s just because Sweden always leave the level very high. And in tv people tend to see the errors very easily when 70% of the time everything is running smoothky :)

I'm from South America and we usually don't get much representation in media (I don't mind when there isn't, but it's great when there is). There have been some companies basing their characters/stories in some South American countries, and suddenly an American who ate a taco ten years ago comes up and says "Hey, I'm 100% Hispanic and this is offensive!!" and then they never set their stories in South America ever again, taking representation away from us. Like the Speedy Gonzales controversy.

I think that’s one of my biggest pet peeves about SJWs: they hide their white savior complex behind moral progressiveness. I’ve even seen people tell minorities they’re wrong for not being offended about something, or that they don’t know any better! SMH I think someone of the ethnicity in question would fucking know how to feel. It’s ridiculous.
