–Don’t Say “Lazy”, K-ON!

Arguably one of the most popular ending sequences in K-ON, spawing hundreds upon thousands of pieces of fanart of the girls in their respective outfits, ‘Don’t Say “Lazy”’ not only stands out as one of the more memorable segments of the series visually, but lyrically as well.

Most K-ON fans know the music of the series is not half-assed–not in the slightest. This song proves that fact and while the lyrics can seem just like a jumble of personal thoughts and trouble, along with the music video being a big moment for the series artistically, there lies some good messages, themes, and interesting tidbits laced throughout the two mediums. Taking apart the lyrics and music video separately, beyond the read more cut we will analyze the lyrics and music video in depth and connect themes and such that give this great song an ever greater clarity.

anonymous asked:

do you like the phantom menace?

DO I LIKE THE PHANTOM MENACE

lemme tell you why The Phantom Menace is a shoddily-wrapped gift to human kind

1) The main protagonist (though, I suppose this term is used loosely, because there are some very strong secondary characters) is a teenage girl.

2) A teenage girl who is a QUEEN OF A PLANET

3) IN DISGUISE

4) WHO, LET ME ADD, KICKSTARTS THE ENTIRE PLOT OF STAR WARS BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO PROTECT HER PEOPLE AND PLANET AND MAINTAIN THE PEACE

5) “I will not condone an action that will lead my people to war” hOLLA like what a kid. But you know the best part? She’s a girl who is incredibly brave, incredibly capable, and supremely awesome - but she’s also a teenage girl. She pouts when she doesn’t get her way and is hopelessly naive about some things and makes friends with funny little kids who are nice to her

6) it introduces the “main villain” of the entire franchise as a small, compassionate, loving, enslaved boy. The whole introduction of slavery and all that entails is another point altogether, but the fact that Anakin Skywalker is introduced as a child, not innocent, exactly, but filled with child-like hope and wonder and the ceaseless need to help others - mother love, that was a brilliant move. His character suddenly hold fifty times more depth. It makes the arc that much more heartbreaking and relateable. Because lemme tell you what - if Darth Vader were introduced as the angsty teenager he is in AOTC, it would have added very little to his journey. Sure, you get some more material, and they could have probably done a great job with it, but the fact that Anakin is shown as a child, a clean slate (though he is anything but clean) - it reinforces a thousand fold this Main Theme in star wars that is all about how the potential to do good is there in each and every single being. That idea that Luke clings to, believes in with all his heart? Yeah, reinforced. Everyone’s got that loving child inside of them, still. Even the Baddest of bad guys.

7) SHMI SKYWALKER. We’re almost to the Slavery Point, but Shmi. Lordy Lordy, this woman. She’s the most important character in the whole series, I think. Or one of the most. And you know what? She’s the one that pushes forward the belief that goodness can be found in everyone. She is the one who has undergone years of suffering and hardship and slavery and yet still teaches her son to be kind and hospitable and loving to a fault. She is the one who Anakin gets separated from twice, and both times are a critical juncture to his path and his life.

8) The slavery background. Now, I’m always gonna grump about how they never bring it up again in the next two movies, but the fact that it’s there makes Vader’s entire arc 34095839405x more powerful and heart shattering sorry but I’ll fight anyone who says othersie. Lovingly, of course. But I will fight u.

9) It also diversifies and broadens the SW universe? I mean, in the OT we rarely see the planets themselves, except for Endor. Hoth doesn’t count, becuase it’s all white. But WORLDBUILDING and a whole culture and the fact that yeah, horrible things are happening in the galaxy, just like they do here on earth, and yeah, the good guys don’t know about it and it’s not actually top priority.

10) Sassy Ewan McG in the background I’m sorry this was gold

11) I actually really love QuiGon’s character? I mean, I love that they introduced Obi-Wan as a padawn, actually, and made it clear that he was barely qualified to train Anakin from the beginning (honestly the entire set up of all the relationships was so very well done), but I also love the contrast between Qui Gon and Obi-Wan’s thinking. Obi-Wan is … well, he really believes in the Jedi Order. (long discussion, which I’ll not get into here but YAY beard boy meta). Qui Gon - well, he respects it, and believes in it, but his belief in the council itself is not exactly something to tell stories about? Which is a very interesting way of showing the differences within the Jedi Order itself, and, also, speaking of which, I LOVE the portrayal and introduction of the Old Jedi and how Qui Gon and Obi-Wan are so separate from the council at first. Up until this point, the only Jedi we’ve known really well is Luke (and Obi-Wan and Yoda, but Luke is our guy, he’s the main character, he’s the one we’re adhering to for “oh, this is how a Kedi is supposed to be”) anyway I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE.

12) PODRACING. NEED I SAY MORE

13) Cool colours and ships and planets and people and a sudden influx of LIFE that was never present in the OT, and wow WHAT A BRILLIANT CONTRAST. Of course, this is also present (though slowly dwindling) in the other two movies, but TPM paved the way. It was the first one. It was the one that decided the others.

And now for the shoddy wrapping - yeah, the acting was a bit wooden at times, especially from the kids. Yeah, the plot was difficult to follow, and not particularly character driven, though it did have its moments. Jar Jar was endearing maybe 10% of the time, that last shot of Sheev’s face was the farthest thing from subtle that I have ever in my natural life witnessed, and I don’t even know what was up with that animatronics Yoda. BUT. Consider: beautiful choreography in the fighting, DARTH MAUL, Padme kicking 4309850459% butt, QUEEN AMIDALA’S WARDROBE, the entire theme of politics, which was literally the beginning of ANH like - bruh. Politics is a huge part of Star Wars. The entire Rebellion is essentially a political dispute that’s dragged to all-out war. The fact that the clone wars seemingly start because of politics is ideal, rather than making them into “wow random bad guy swoops in and tries to kill everyone”. THE SOUNDTRACK. Threepio with no plating one. THE INTRODUCTION OF ARTOO, Midichlorians, which is think are the COOLEST THING because wow science? And so many new and bright thoughts and concepts and ideas that were added to the SW universe. It’s not a cinematic masterpiece in acting or storytelling, but thematically? it’s EXCELLENT. And the character choices? ALSO EXCELLENT.

Basically, I can agree that sometimes TPM isn’t the most amazing. Certainly, only three of the six are truly amazing, and even ROTJ has its hangups when you’re not talking intensely character-focused scenes/Luke’s arc. BUT. WHY PEOPLE HATE ON IT. I REALLY DON’T KNOW.

this is probably so incoherent forgive me I tried

week sixteen

dear baby,

well you are almost halfway baked so i decided that now is a good time to start writing you little notes each week! mainly to document my time with you in my belly, but also to show to you later on, when you’re a little older!

i will back up a bit—you were a surprise blessing, little baby! we thought we had our lives all planned out perfectly but clearly God really wanted us to be your parents, and right now too! since we first found out about you, we have been constantly learning to trust Jesus with the plan for your life and our life and our future but it’s been hard! but also so so good. i remember the very first time we heard your tiny little heart beating—just a faint flicker on the grainy screen—it was the sweetest thing i’ve ever heard, since I wasn’t completely sure everything was ok in there with you (also, really fast heartbeat—180 beats per minute—dang, baby!)

you haven’t made me sick once, throughout this whole time you’ve been in my belly! pretttty impressive, baby. I used to get a little queasy in the mornings and be real exhausted but now my energy is back and I feel great! during the first trimester, I ate a lot of cereal and fruit and cheese, and one tiny pickle every day (also never-ending iced tea! I still can’t get enough of that stuff)! but now, i’ve completely changed my diet for you and have been cooking and experimenting a lot with clean eating (its not even a little easy, you’re welcome)! lots of veggies, lots of dairy, lots of protein, and lots of fruits. also, I have been taking really gross healthy natural vitamins and supplements for you too (again, you’re welcome)—one tastes like moldy fishy sawdust, one tastes like sour rotten oranges, and another one tastes like dirt mixed with blood. but you’re worth it, you precious little angel!

also, this is the first week your ears have ever been able to hear and so we have been making sure we laugh an extra lot (it starts as stupid silly fake laughs which make us for-real laugh. its loads of fun. you probably think we are crazy people). also your daddy has been talking to you every night and he even plays the ukulele and sings to ya, it’s the sweetest thing. he is so so excited to meet you. (also your auntie zeezee has private whisper conversations with you—I’m not positive what they are about, I hope she isn’t teaching you bad words!!!!!).

this week was rough for mama and daddy—we barely had enough money to pay rent ($9 over, holla) and were super stressed and had a lot of little fights. but somehow, we made it! we are blown away, daily it seems, by the tidal-wave hugeness of the grace and love of Jesus.

we love you so so much and pray for you every single night and think about you all the time. I even have dreams about you (in one, you were a boy wearing a dragon costume and for some reason, you were trying to stand on the COUNTER TOP, rude. and in another one you were a sweet little girl and we were the best of friends and hung out 24/7. there have been more, but they were pretty weird, like you having a man face or morphing into a full-sized sumo wrestler when you turn one. lets hope that doesn’t happen.)

love, your mama

(also, this week you are the size of an avocado—one of my favorite foods!)

Where He Takes You on Your First Date- 5sos preference
  • Calum: "Hey, (y/n), are you um ready?" Cal asked nervously. You nodded as he offered his arm to you. You walked out of your flat to his car, and he opened the door for you. Cal drove for a bit, making small talk easily, until he pulled up to a small Italian restaurant. It was completely empty, but Cal opened your door and guided you confidently to the entrance. "Um, Cal, I don't think they're open." You gave him a weird look as he pulled out keys and unlocked the door. "I have connections." He winked at you, guiding you in. You gasped as you saw that the restaurant was completely dark except for one small candle lite table that had food on it. He pulled out a chair for you and then sat down himself. "I know we've been friends forever, but I wanted our first date to be special... because I love you." He said. You smiled and blushed, before saying, "I love you too... but can we eat?"
  • Michael: "Mikey, we're going to get into trouble!" You whispered into Michael's ear as you two snuck into the back of a theatre. "(Y/n), I know you haven't known me long, but you should know by now that trouble is my middle name." "I thought it was Alfred?" You teased and he jokingly glared at you. He grabbed your hand as you two dashed into the closest door, walking into a cheesy chick flick. "Ugh, just my luck." He groaned as you two found seats in the back row. He pushed up the arm rest, and picked you up, setting you on his lap. His fingers slowly began to trace up your thigh. "The movie might suck, but at least we can make it interesting." He whispered into your ear before getting down to business.
  • Ashton: You and your bestfriend, Ashton, had finally told each other how you felt about one another a week ago. You two had loved each other for a long time, and Ash wanted to be with you, so he asked you out on a date. You had never been on a 'date' with Ash, and you were really nervous when he finally rang your doorbell. "You look absolutely stunning." He cockily grinned as he eyed you. "I bet you say that to all the girls." You rolled your eyes, secretly enjoying the attention. "What part of 'I've loved you for five years' didn't you understand?" "Right, right, sorry. So, what's the plan?" You asked. Ashton looked you up and down again. "You know, you look too good for anyone else to see. I think we're just going to spend the night here." He said before backing you back into your flat, pinning you against a wall, and kissing you until tomorrow.
  • Luke: "Hey." You said nervously as Luke opened the door to his flat. He grinned when he saw you, and guided you in to his movie room. "I know you said it was ok that our first date was just a movie date, but I feel bad. Are you sure I can't take you to a 5 star dinner?" He asked. "Luke, this is the perfect first date. Don't worry about it." You kissed him on the cheek, and you saw him relax. You two sat down on the couch as he started the movie. He wrapped his arms around you as you snuggled into his chest. The movie was barely five minutes in before you turned towards him. "I know we've spent hours watching movies together over the years, but I think this is the only movie night I'll ever remember when I'm old because it's our first movie night as a couple." Affection filled Luke's eyes as he stared down at you. "(Y/n), I'm in love with you. I hope that doesn't freak you out but I just couldn't keep it in anymore." You brought his face to yours, slowly kissing him. "It doesn't freak me out because I love you too."
  • *if you want part 2 where they frick frack holla at me and ill write it yoooo. hope yall enjoyed it plz give me feedback AND REQUESTS FOR BOTH 5SOS AND 1D ARE OPEN YALL*

“Is that your car?”

Astrid raised an eyebrow, looking over her shoulder and at her car. She smiled “No way, Mr. Haddock, I woke up and decided it was a good day to steal my neighbors car.”

Stoick shrugged, and chuckled “Well, I wouldn’t put it past you to do that, Astrid.”

Astrid laughed, reaching up to pull a can of something down “You know me so well.” She looked over at Stoick and frowned “You looked exhausted, boss. What’s going on?”

Stoick reached up to a shelf that she couldn’t reach, handing her the box she was after “You know, son and his fiancée drama.”

“Yes. The mythical son and his fiancée. Still having problems?”

Astrid would say she loved her job. Mostly because her boss, Stoick Haddock, was always there. It was almost like he never had a day off unless it was something involving his son or wife. She could actually talk to Stoick like he was an actual father figure in her life.

Yes. Working at the same store for over a year lets you bond with your boss.

He knows that she has father issues, and she knows about his struggles with his son and his sons fiancée. Although, she can’t remember if she’s ever met his son or not.

“You can say that. They broke up the other night.” Astrid’s eyes widened. From what Stoick had told her, his son and his now ex fiancée, had been together for years, but had only been engaged for a few months “He found out she was cheating, and I’m proud of him for not putting up with that. He also says he may have feelings for someone else, and was happy that he ended things with Heather.”

Astrid smiled “Well good for him. He sounds like a good guy.”

She didn’t even notice that he had said a name. She continued pulling the store, doing her best to make it look nice before they opened. She heard footsteps, but ignored it thinking it was just Stoick. That was until she heard the sound of Hiccup’s prosthetic hitting the floor.

Astrid frowned, walking out of the aisle and looking at him “Morning, Hiccup.. What are you doing here? We aren’t even open yet.”

“Good morning, and I know. I’m here to see my dad.”

Astrid raised an eyebrow and looked over at Stoick “Stoick is your dad?” She should be embarrassed. She had openly told Stoick that she liked the one legged guy that came in almost everyday. She had told Stoick that she likes his son. Did Stoick tell him?

“Yes, Astrid. Why do you think I’m here so much? I don’t buy things half the time.” He chuckled and gestured towards the door “I work at that garage across the street. I visit on my lunches.”

“I can’t believe you Stoick’s son. How did I not know?”

Hiccup smiled, walking next to Astrid towards the office “I don’t know. Maybe you were too distracted by my charm?”

Astrid groaned “Oh gods. He told you?”

“He told me.” he gave her a smile before shrugging “And I know he’s told you about Heather and I breaking up.” Astrid nodded “There were more reasons than just cheating.”

"Yeah, because you like someone else.”

“And I didn’t feel bad about it at all.” he pushed open the office door, sitting in his dad’s chair and looking up at Astrid “The girl is pretty great.”

Astrid felt her heart fall. She forced the smile to stay on her face as she leaned against the door “Yeah? Tell me about her.”

“You sure?” she nodded, and he smirked “She’s great, really. Listens, she’s understanding. She tells me straight how she feels about something, like how she though my fiancée was no good.” Astrid froze. Her. She did that. Is he talking about her? “She has a great sense of humor and likes joking around with me when I visit her at work. My dad loves her, which is a huge plus. She’s beautiful, and even has her sweet moments.”

Hiccup watched her face. It went from upset, to shock, to nervous, and then excited all at once. She has to have figured it out. She looked over at him, making eye contact, a small smile finding its way to her lips “Are you talking about… Me?”

“Of course, Astrid.” he didn’t take his eyes off of her “You’re different, and I like that.”

Astrid crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow “You’re only saying this because your dad told you tha I like you.”

Actually, he said that you said you like that ‘one legged kid that comes in everyday’. One legged kid? Thanks, Astrid.”

She knows he’s joking. She can tell by that smile on his face.

“Go on a date with me. Just one, and if you don’t have fun, you’ll never have to do it again.”

Something tells her that… Whatever this is, is going to turn out to be pretty great, and she’s looking forward to getting to know him better.

“Okay.”
