i think he is probably not that racist

WOW. I just had to sit through a video of a white boy talking about how the new powerpuff girl Bliss, is out of place and that she doesn’t belong. Like can white boys shut up? He probably didn’t give a shit about powerpuff girls until a black Powerpuff girl was added and now he thinks people want his opinion.

On top of that he said something like “the fans of the old powerpuff girls don’t want another powerpuff girl”—like excuse me but as far as I’m concerned MOST of the powerpuff girls fans were girls of all nationalities and ethnicities. Last I checked the show wasn’t marketed toward racist white boys who think they’re entitled to have an opinion on a show that’s literally not for them.

I hope they start adding more power puff girls who are girls of color because girls of color do watch powerpuff girls.

So You Think You’re Not Racist

Alternate title: “Levels of Racism: Why White Fans and Creators Have a Responsibility to Confront Our Biases”

So here’s a thing I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’m pretty sure it’s nothing new and if anyone knows of resources written by Black people that address this, please send me the info because I definitely want to read them.

(Also if I’ve misstepped or misspoken in any way, please let me know. Criticism is welcome.)

Part of the difficulty of discussing racism, particularly with other white people, is that we don’t actually think about the same thing when we talk about racism. The way I see it, there are three levels:

  1. Individual beliefs and actions that are rooted in racial prejudice
  2. Subconscious racial bias that comes from socialization
  3. Systemic racism enshrined in institutions of power

There are probably more in between, and obviously these aren’t strict black and white categories; there’s a lot of overlap and blurred lines involved. I don’t know if any particular level is worse than the others, and I don’t think I’m qualified to speak on that. But I think these work well as large bucket categories.

The problem is that often people are talking about different levels without actually realizing it. When I try to get my parents to understand why level 2 might lead them to judge Colin Kaepernick’s method of protest unfairly, they respond as if I’ve accused them of level 1 racism. When I tell my coworker that I don’t like the Bruins because the crowd booed PK Subban every time he had the puck, I can tell he’s desperately trying to come up with a reason other than race because he doesn’t want to accuse an entire stadium of people of being level 1 racists, when really the problem is probably a mix of 1 & 2.

And obviously, they’re all bad. They’re all racism and we should fight against all of them. But I think we have to fight against the different levels in different ways, which is why people get frustrated with these conversations.

listen, jontron has been horrible since GG’s inception.
i mean that doesn’t make any of the recent and not-so-recent BATSHIT GARBAGE he’s said any less BATSHIT, but i’m just shocked it took him agreeing with Actual White Supremacists and his racist tirade in that debate stream to get people to realize that his ~Ironic Racism/Misogyny/Transphobia over all these years has either transformed into or always was genuine racism/misogyny/transphobia.
(rape mention past this point.) anyway my awakening moment was back in highschool (actually probably 2013 now that i think about it) watching GG for the first time, the iconic sonic 06 playthrough and thinking it was really funny!! i remember my face hurting from smiling and laughing so much. at least until jontron straight up said he wanted to rape a female NPC they ran into. and as a teenage girl AT THAT EXACT POINT IN TIME dealing with sexual assault and rape joke harassment shit from a male classmate, and watching funny videos on the internet to forget about what i was dealing with, that “joke” wiped the smile off my face and i immediately started crying and closed the video instantly and never finished watching the playthrough or touched another GG video until years after danny replaced jon. (and even then i didn’t stick around super long either - my mexican ass can only stand so many ~ironic~ ‘dirty mexican’ jokes and bad ‘accent humor’, even if not as overtly horrible as jon had been.)
anyway my point is that it’s just really funny that people who had been SAYING all these years that “he’s just kidding!! him saying rapey and racist things are just jokes!!!” are for some reason shocked now that it turns out he wasn’t joking at all, as if a totally not racist or misogynistic person would think it’s okay or be comfortable enough to joke about those things to begin with. it’s almost as funny as the fact that jontron thinks him making those kinds of comments has no effect on the audience he seems to crave so badly!!! (read: his non white, jewish, female, disabled, and victims of sexual assault former fans who got tired of his shit. not to mention alienating his ‘heroes’ like neil c. for openly being a pos where neil could see it LMAO.)

TL;DR: jontron has literally always been shit, he’s just been a lot louder about it lately bc he’s managed to weed out all his decent fans and left only his nasty hugbox who never challenge his racist rapey self.

Can you fill me on what happened with jontron??? I'm really confused?

Hoo boy, anon, let’s get this shitshow a-rollin’

So once again, the malignant, tumor-like growth on the lower back of YouTube’s body, aka JonTron, has been really throwing himself into the fire more and more as of late, and while many people (like myself) aren’t really surprised that he is still as awful of a person as he’s always been, many people are shocked and appalled at just how much worse it’s gotten.

Here’s a quick recap of all the gross things he’s said thus far:

And that’s just the receipts that I, personally, can pull for you at the moment, dear anon. However, if anyone else has things to add onto this list, please, by all means, make this a masterpost of why JonTron is awful.

Hey, you're German, right? I've got a huge favour to ask of you. I've been studying German for a few years, and I plan on studying there for a year. Before that, I wanna improve my language skills, so I've been wondering if you could tell me about some good original German movies? I don't want to watch dubbed ones, I've heard they're horrible. Thank you so much! Love your blog, by the way.

Dubbed movies aren’t actually half bad - at least to movies dubbed in other languages. Trust me, I’ve watched both Spanish and French dubbed movies, they were way worse. This is what we like to call “Jammern auf hohem Niveau” - complaining even though everything is pretty good. You’ll find that Germans are a people of complainers; we like to complain about everything. We are never content :)

Still, I’m really really excited that you’re interested in my culture and HELL YES THERE ARE A BUNCH OF AWESOME GERMAN MOVIES. Here are some highly acclaimed ones and some of my favourites, I hope all links work.

  • 12 Meter ohne Kopf (a movie about a German pirate, who allegedly walked 12 meters after being beheaded in order to save his crew)
  • Auf der anderen Seite (a really bautiful sort of episodic movie connecting the lives of three families, both German and Turkish)
  • Barfuss (a movie about a girl suffering from PTSD, who is saved mostly accidentally from committing suicide by a dude cleaning the clinic she is in, and then follows him around everywhere, and they fall in love. Seriously, onely one of two movies by Til Schweiger worth watching)
  • Buddenbrooks (the story of a very rich merchant family and their downfall…a really famour book adaptation)
  • Das Boot (a movie about a German submarine and its crew during World War II. 100& must-see)
  • Das Experiment (A movie about a psychology experiment in prison, and how people react when given free reign over others. This should come with a huge trigger warning. It’s awesome, but also really super disturbing)
  • Das Leben der Anderen (You might’ve heard of that one, since it received an Oscar. It deals with surveillance in East Germany, and is, also, a must-see).
  • Das weiße Band (A movie about the oppressive and rigid society pre-World War I children grew up in.)
  • Das Wunder von Bern (This movie mixes the football world championships of 1954 (soccer for heathens who call other stuff football) and the story of a family that has to re-learn to live with each other when the father comes home after being a war captive for like…12 years MUST SEE)
  • Der Baader Meinhof Komplex (movie about famous German left extremists, the RAF and their terrorist attacks)
  • Der Schuh des Manitu (THE single best German comedy to ever exist. It makes fun of Cowboy movies/books that are super popular in Germany. You’ll cry of laughter seeing Native Americans with a Bavarian accent - which also means your language level should be really high, or you won’t understand a thing. Uh, obviously don’t watch if you think white comedians playing Native Americans is racist even when it’s satire)
  • Der Untergang (the last days in thr life of Adolf Hitler. You’ll probably have heard of that one, too. MUST SEE)
  • Die Blechtrommel (God, I don’t know how to describe this one. Basically, a movie about a child who decides he doesn’t want to grow anymore and observes the world of the adults around him?)
  • Die Fälscher (again, dealing with World War II, and people in concentration camps who were tasked with copying money of other countries)
  • Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei (a movie about three rebels who break into rich people’s houses only to rearrange their furniture and tell them to revise their morals - until one of them catches them in the act and they abduct him for a weekend. MUST SEE)
  • Die Feuerzangenbowle (THE classic movie. about the German school system. An older guy pretending to be a student at an elite high school. Also gave the name to a drink you will find a lot on Christmas markets)
  • Effie Briest (another novel adaptation about a young woman whose marriage is arranged and who loses everything when she cheats on her husband)
  • Ein Freund von mir (two guys who are completely different building a very strange friendship)
  • Elementarteilchen (about the lives of two brothers who were separated after birth, and the completely different lives they lead)
  • Fack Ju Göhte (no links yet, it only came out last year, a new comedy about the German school system, and absolute must-see, if you happen to find a link one day)
  • Gegen die Wand (a Turkish girl fake-marrying a German addict in an attempt to escae her family. MUST SEE)
  • Goodbye Lenin (a beautiful movie/comedy about a family and the German reunification. MUST SEE)
  • Im Winter ein Jahr (a family dealing with the loss of their son/brother)
  • Kabale und Liebe (a superb adaptation of Schiller’s play. bsjdhkdjk)
  • Kebab Connection (…I don’t even know how to describe this movie. Just watch it. Very multi/transcultural and hilarious)
  • Keinohrhasen (a douche has to do community service at a kindergarten - and finds that the girl he used to bully as a kid is now his superior. uh-oh. It’s super funny)
  • Kirschblüten - Hanami  (a dude travelling to Japan to understand and be close to his late wife)
  • Lola rennt ( a movie about a couple in a dangerous situation - and three possible outcomes)
  • Schiller (ah boy, this was a TV production, so I couldn’t find a link. A brilliant movie about the life of Germany’s best playwright, if you ask me)
  • Soul Kitchen (a comedy about a guy trying to keep his restaurant afloat and keeping his brother out of a life of petty crime)
  • Sophie Scholl - die letzten Tage (a movie about the last days in the life of Sophie Scholl and her brother, who were part of the resistance against the Nazis)
  • Vincent will Meer (a guy with tourette syndrom, a girl with an eating disorder and a guy with OCD break out of their psychiatric clinic to go to the sea. MUST SEE)
  • Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken? ( a movie based on a real story, about a group of teenagers vowing to commit suicide once they do not feel any love anymore)
  • Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot (a comedy about a kid who does a lot of nonsense and when told that he is the reason his mother dies, blames himself, feares that he has to go to hell, and tries to make up for his sins by finding his dad a new wife. Hilarious. Again, tho, super strong Bavarian accent, beware!)

And if you want to watch a few good German TV-shows:

  • Türkisch für Anfänger (ABSOLUTE MUST SEE TV SERIES OMG WATCH IT!!! It deals with a German-Turkish patchwork family and it is hilarious)
  • Tatort Münster (basically a procedural crime show. There are a lot of Tatorts, but this is the only one that is always good. you’ll find a lot of the episodes on youtube)
  • Der letzte Zeuge (a show about a coroner solving crimes)

Hi, I'm doing some research right now in regards to fans imagining of harry potter. you were the first blog i found to suggest the idea that harry could be Indian. Do you have any specific headcanons in regards to this? Or what it means to you to have him be Indian? It's okay if you're not comfortable answering. Thanks.

This is a really great idea! I hope your research goes well.

Well I began to imagine Harry as being half Indian because Harry as a character reminds me of my brother (who like me is half Indian). I always saw him as looking sort of like Dan in terms of skin colour and hair colour.

It was only through Tumblr that I really started to look more deeply into it. A lot of people had Harry as mixed race in their minds and seeing all that art and those ideas allowed me to explore my own thoughts on it.

Reading the books again (I read them at least once a year), I realised how meaningful it was that the Dursleys had never liked or approved of James Potter. They seemed to see Lily as having lowered herself by marrying him. To me, as a child of an Indian father and English mother, I KNOW that reaction very well. Sometimes it’s not said, but it’s implied and it gets to you. People called James lazy and basically hinted that he wasn’t good enough for Lily (Snape and Petunia mostly) which is a sure sign he was brown, because as far as I can see James was a good man who adored his wife and son. A lot of people will unfortunately always go out of their way to try and make brown men look bad. Not to mention that Snape’s superiority complex was so deep that I find it hard to believe that it just came from the fact James was cruel to him at school. I honestly believe it was partly because Snape held racist beliefs (at least when he was younger). He never could take it that Lily had chosen James over him.

The stuff about Harry’s dark, messy hair seemed to fit too, because in our family we all have dark hair that curls. My brother’s hair curls if it grows long enough, and my dad has really thick dark hair as well.

Then there’s how the Dursleys used to try and hide Harry’s appearance from the neighbours, which implied he looked noticeably different to his family. I always got the impression the Durselys and their neighbours were UKIP sort of people. You know, the sort who wouldn’t say they were racist but would be suspicious if they saw a brown person in a shop.

I know the reason the Dursleys don’t tell Harry about James is because of the magic, but I also like to think that part of the reason was that they wanted to bring him up like a ‘nice English boy’ and keep him from his father’s culture. Everything about them screams trying desperately to make Harry ‘normal’ and to them ‘normal’ would probably mean trying to erase his links to his heritage. He might have found power and solace in that, and they wouldn’t have wanted that.

There’s also the fact that before James was murdered, he was making sparks of light fly from his wand to make baby Harry laugh. In 1981 (the year of the murders) Diwali would have fallen on October 27th, which is only 3 days before Halloween, when James was making the sparks. I personally feel this could have been to do with Diwali, since it is the festival of lights.

Last (that I can think of right now) is how Harry’s eyes always stand out to people. They are obviously striking, and I think him being brown skinned and dark haired and having his mother’s green eyes would make that more prominent. My brother has green-ish eyes (inherited from our mother), despite the fact most of our Indian family (me included) all have dark brown. It’s definitely noticeable and something you might comment on.

Thanks for the question by the way! These aren’t all my original headcanons, but I can’t really source them because they’ve come about through reading the ideas of lots of people and forming my own ideas for Harry through them.

xxx

There’s been a lot said about the socially liberal fiscally conservative flavor of asshole, aka “I hate minorities and poor people but I love weed,” but I think we could stand to talk more about his shitty cousin, the socially conservative fiscally liberal.

You’ve maybe never heard it in those terms but I’ve bet you’ve met them, especially if you’ve ever been poor in the south. He’s poor. He’s white. He’s probably a Democrat. He joins the fight for $15 because it will get him, personally, money he needs, but he claims there’s no such thing as the wage gap. He probably believes in global warming but he doesn’t believe in reparations. The 4chan liberal. The “they’re just jokes” racist, transphobe, misogynist. The guy who’ll vote against every social cause that crosses his ballot box because the government shouldn’t be “favoring minorities” but will definitely complain about how impossible it is to get government aid. What bigoties he believes exist are based entirely on which ones he personally has experienced. Says shit like the only minority that really matters is poverty.

I could go on and on, but you guys know what I’m talking about, right? Like, we all know dozens of these guys.

anonymous asked:

How is he a misogynist? Not trying to be rude just asking for clarification.

So, okay, not only is Gordon Ramsay just a bad person (he’s been publicly intoxicated and endangered people, he makes his job off criticizing restaurants and then serves frozen food at his own restaurant, he’s literally physically harmed people on his show as well as fat-shamed and otherwise said terrible things) he’s a HUGE sexist.

One of the biggest things is his treatment of Tracy Grimshaw–who interviewed him and PURPOSEFULLY didn’t bring up allegations of him cheating on his wife–he responded by showing up on a talk show with a photoshopped image of a naked woman with pig features and teats–going on to say it was her and basically be a huge dick.  (Link to an article about it–though I disagree that he wouldn’t have gotten away with racism. He probably would have.)

This is a nice list mentioning his racism, homophobia, his cheating on his wife, and the way he fucks over people who are supposedly close to him:
Oh yeah, it also mentions how he thinks WOMEN SHOULDN’T BE PROFESSIONAL CHEFS

An even longer list that goes into his endangerment of people, his fucking over of people, his sexism, and his general horribleness.

But, I mean…this man gets PAID for being a fucking asshole to everyone and anyone. Of course he’s a fucking sexist, homophobic, racist asshole. Like. Come on.

I like Pewdiepie, I mean.... I don't agree with some things he says, and I agree that some stuff he comes out with really needs to stop, like seriously, because racist jokes aren't cool. But he honestly doesn't even understand why those jokes are offensive and they need to be explained or shown to him. Like how he said that he actually didn't think that nazis are a current thing and seeing it has made him want to stop making nazi jokes. He needs educating, not defamation.(Well... maybe both)

he’s kinda the one defaming himself, bud. like i know what youre tryin to say, & i partially agree (only cuz its obvious hes not a violent angry racist who like… wants to hurt people), but at the same time… hes 27. like i know hes not american so he probably wouldnt have had the exact same exposure to the offensiveness of certain words, but that kinda stops being an excuse after the first time he says it and is told “woah thats a really strong word dont say that.”

the ‘he needs educating’ thing is true but it’s on him, not on the people around him anymore. you get like, one pass as a genuine mistake from not knowing, bc after that its a conscious choice & the people around him have every right to be pissed imo.

some things to consider

i’ve had some time to think about that mess of a clip, and i’ve come up with some things i think yall should think about too. insert captain holt “you’ve made me turn my chair” gif.

1. vilde (and the girl squad)

as of now, we literally have 0 proof that vilde was in on the plot or whatever you want to call the pepsi max girls’ plan to exclude sana from the bus. none at all. we have no proof that vilde said that she was the bus boss all along. we have no proof that she deliberately shit-talked elias and sana. none. zilch. nada. the fact is that everyone saying those things is taking the word of some random racist girls sana overhears in a bathroom as fact. which tbh is….not a reliable source. remember in s1, sana says “vilde was mean at that meeting. and vilde isn’t mean.” the girls have not been at their best this season. at all. i get that. but i firmly believe that neither vilde nor anyone else in the girl squad would knowingly go behind sana’s back in that way. and as of now we have no proof that they did.

2. noora (and yousef)

yousef and noora have been in a lot of clips, probably more than the rest of the characters this season. so it’s easy to forget that the girl squad has hardly seen yousef and sana interact with each other. the only clips i can think of on the top of my head are: so hot, fy faen, and the bus meeting. and sana and yousef barely interact at all in those clips while the girls are around. so it’s perfectly reasonable to assume that the girls still don’t know about sana’s crush on yousef. it seems pretty obvious to us, the viewers, but remember we see this season through sana’s eyes. we don’t see how she looks to the other girls. so noora kissing yousef probably isn’t to get back at sana for not telling her about william’s new girlfriend, a thing that, i think, she has a right to be angry about. tbh i take more issue with yousef, who has been leading sana on this entire time, and then turns around to kiss another girl. but all the hate i’ve seen has been directed towards noora. i ask you, did you forget all of season 1?

3. isak (and the balloon boys)

as of right now, we have no idea how the fight started. we don’t know if it was homophobic in motive. the only reason we have to think it was homophobic is the words of two racist girls sana overhears in a bathroom. again, not the best source. and also, we have no reason to think that isak didn’t start the fight. isak is not perfect. it’s very possible he could have said something offensive or inciteful, whether it was on purpose or not. tensions were already probably running pretty high since it’s likely that’s the first time the balloon boys and even saw each other since their falling out. it probably wouldn’t take much to push either group over the edge. so remember that there are two sides to every fight, and automatically assuming one side to be innocent is not the wisest choice.

honestly this entire situation is a mess, and i’d rather we never got thrust into this in the first place. and maybe y’all are right and all these things are the case. if so, i only have one thing to say: fuck you, julie andem

I work at Pan Era of Bread, and let me tell you, that the customers are literally horrible and the corporate managers are even worse. Lets start with the corporate part. We have a very unusual quick turn around rate for our trainers, almost to the point were we dont have any. When I first started working, they managers had me training with someone who barely knew what they were doing. This went on for a week or so while I was doing hip to hip, then they just left me to close by myself one day. It took me so long because i had no idea what i was doing. Then they had the audacity to complain to my face that i dont know what im doing. Like yeah no duh i wonder whos fault that is.
So I learnt most of my stuff by trial and error, and im now at my 6 month mark in my employment. At my 2 month mark, they had me training other people. I told them everything I knew and lead them through the movements of being a cashier/ bakery backer, and you know what? Our scores improved by a bit in the order taking, and we still dont have trainers.

Next, the customers. Holy shit are they the worst, mostly cause they are white and entitled, and most of all, we have a severely warped ‘customer is always right’ policy tat further emboldens them. I was probably a month into my service, and we were having our usual sunday morning rush. We sell bagels like no ones business, and constantly are having shortages of certain baked goods. Its usually the same demographic who complain to us and our managers. At one point we’ve been yelled at and called impotent, even when we explain that all our baked goods are made throughout the night and it takes time for us to make more.
This poor girl that i was training got yelled at, like proper yelled at because we dont carry hazelnut cream cheese. Everytime he would say “i want that hazelnut cream cheese” she would reply “im sorry we dont carry hazelnut, we replaced it with honey walnut. Would you like to try that instead.” And he started yelling “I fucking want the hazelnut cheese, i know you guys have some in the back. I dont care if i have to pay extra, just give me the fucking cheese.” At this point i had to excuse myself from the customer i was currently tending to and went to the back to grab our manager. And do you know what they did to handle this roudy and rude customer? Said that they get a free pasty for their troubles! Yeah you get a free cinnamon bun for yelling at this poor girl at 8 am on a sunday.
Its even gotten to the point that some old man yelled at me that he wanted coffee. He ordered a bagel and i asked if he wanted it sliced and he yelled in my face “COFFEE” as loud as he could. I asked him again a little louder and made a slicing gesture to help explain what i was asking and he yelled that he wanted a manager, and didnt want to talk to someone who doesnt know english. And the manager, gave the guy a free meal for his troubles.
The customers are racist and entitled, thinking that they are more upper class than they actually are. We are treated like shit by the managers and it probably will never get better.

honestly i’m pissed first i had to deal with all these idiot antis and now i have to scroll through nonstop text posts about how y’all didn’t think hunk and lance kept their character development from season one because they weren’t the focus

it was not their turn for further development, first of all. and we got to see lance save an entire brainwashed civilization himself!!! lance is heroic and adventurous and he doesn’t crack under pressure! that’s so freaking badass!!!!

hunk started his journey to becoming brave and selfless in season one, but clearly he’s still at the point where his heart isn’t fully in anything unless it directly affects someone he has a personal connection with. otherwise, he’s mostly about self-preservation.

AND YES, THERE WERE MORE FAT/FOOD JOKES THAN NECESSARY, I KNOW, AND I’M NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT EITHER. but stop ignoring all the new stuff about hunk we saw this season. He has like, not just an obsession with eating, he has a Passion for Cooking. He’s not a gluttonous idiot, he’s a complex person who’s interested in the culinary arts. you would miss earth food too if you were already a critic before and suddenly you’re stuck trying to figure out weird bland space food.

also!!! hunk’s love for cooking comes in handy, TWICE!!! IT’S HELPFUL!!! IT’S NOT JUST A JOKE!!! REMEMBER HE FUCKING MADE THE LENSES THAT SAVED THEIR ASSES??? YEAH. HE DID THAT.

when hunk got stuck indebted to vrepit sal, we saw hunk take that shit in stride! he saw the situation and was like “i can fuckin work with this” y’know, LIKE HE DID IN SEASON ONE WHEN ALL OF Y’ALL WERE SCREAMING ABOUT HIS ENGINEERING SKILLS, INNOVATION, AND INTUITION. we got to see hunk take fucking charge in that kitchen!!! he was having NO foolishness!!! it’s nice to see hunk being confident enough to not take no for an answer when it comes to his area of expertise.

and that’s just the POSITIVE development we see in season two! there was negative stuff we learned about them too!

lance is still super insecure around shiro, and especially keith. lance feels threatened by keith’s mysteriousness and how close he is with their leader and lashes out at him at every opportunity. keith does his best to be civil and avoid conflict, LIKE I TOLD Y’ALL HE DOES back in my super long keith post. sometimes keith is able to keep the peace between them, and sometimes he gives into it because he’s just a competitive person and lance keeps provoking him. i don’t think lance fully understands yet that keith isn’t always looking to outshine him.

we also learn that hunk uses humor as a defense mechanism, (much like shiro.) i mean, i guess we kinda already saw that in season one, but like, this season it’s more clear that he’s just deadpan joking and not actually stupid. and he can be super insensitive!!! like, the whole “galra keith” thing was funny for like two seconds, but hunk is fuckin milking it, and guess what!! that shit is racist!!!!!!! hunk probably thinks it’s not the same thing because it’s about keith being an alien and not him being two different earth races, there’s a disconnect in his mind about it. hunk is not the most precious cinnamon roll we’ve built him up to be!!! hunk is kinda an asshole!!! i look forward to that issue being dealt with in the upcoming season/(or possibly?comics).

HUNK AND LANCE WERE NOT THE FOCAL POINT OF SEASON 2, BUT THAT’S NOT BAD!!!! IF YOU’RE GONNA COMPLAIN, MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION BEFORE YOU CRY ABOUT IT!!!

Real Americans

Alright, there are some big warnings on this one, so please read them before you read on. This is a very serious fic, looking a little bit at racism and sexism back in the 20th century, and especially in the military.

During WWII, a lot of people banded together to fight for a safer world, but that doesn’t mean that racism and sexism were temporarily put aside. Women were often limited to working in factories, communications, and as nurses for the war effort.

Japanese Americans were forced to live in internment camps when the Japanese became involved in the war, allied with Germany (though working towards their own militaristic goals). This was for fear that these Japanese Americans, many of which had been born in America, would turn against the country and strike against them from the inside.

And segregation was still in effect during the war. Even in the military, the segregation of African Americans occured, and it was often the case that, despite the large number that enlisted into the war, they filled noncombative roles, and there were very few African American officers.

These things should never be forgotten. Especially considering the fact that this racism and sexism still exists in the world. These people experienced, and often still experience, hardships, just because of the colour of their skin, or the perceived weakness of their gender.

If we do our best to remember this, then we will also remember their strength and bravery in fighting against this prejudice. We still need this strength to keep fighting for equality today.

I also wanted to show that there were, and still are, good people that want this equality. If we forget that, then we lose hope, and we need that hope.

I was a little worried about writing this, as it is a sensitive topic, but it is one that I feel strongly about, and one that I also didn’t think I could just gloss over in this series. If you have any feedback, please let me know.

“Can you believe that she’s been recruited into Cap’s special team? She’s not even a soldier,” one of the American soldiers exclaimed.

“Isn’t she married to Barnes? That’s probably why she’s in,” a second man replied. “It’s going to be an absolute mess… the battlefield is no place for a woman, especially one with no training.”

“Barnes probably just wanted to keep her around so that he can fuck her whenever he wants. Can’t blame him for that.”

“I don’t think the decision had anything to do with Barnes,” a third voice chimed in. “From what I saw of her in Austria, she’s pretty capable.”

“Yeah, I bet she is,” the first man laughed.

- He’s a psychopath (this means that cells in your brain w empathy don’t respond to emotional situations. not to be confused with sociopaths, who do feel emotions. i realized i was wrong in calling him a sociopath. he can’t feel emotion, which is probably why he doesn’t have a problem doing the following). Psychopaths are around us in this world every day and we just don’t realize it, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he genuinely is one.

- “I just don’t like you”

- Fucking hates Paul for doing anything remotely fun

- “Watch out loser”

- Calling Jessica Alex

- Gaining respect for Alex because she told him to eat shit

- Staring into space like a robot then glitching

- Attempting to assert his alpha dominance by just staring at people in conversations

- enjoying licking the chemical cleaner

- coming into the game and doing EXACTLY what his preseason plan was. TO A TEE.

- he’s playing the game hard and well, regardless of his sketch personality. Image having people like you and being in a showmance without even SPEAKING

- going to Alex and Jillian and asking them how they’re doing, then telling them how they could better their game

- also, I don’t think he’s racist. Just a psychopath, which explains clearly why he couldn’t understand the emotional connect to riots where people were being murdered and went there for “fun”. (also, i’m a black female so don’t @ me about what racism is because i’ve been called nigger AND ETC. countless times living in the south)

- not treating dom like a mother figure and implying that he would showmance w her

- I can tell something happened to him in his life to make him this way (probably war related), and it wasn’t his fault

- BUT he’s hilarious, i’ve never been so entertained.

- Also he’s GONE OUT OF HIS WAY to keep dominique (who i do want to win) safe… with all that being said. He can stay. (when mark was telling him who he trusts, cody made sure he added dominique)

- as a boring weirdo, myself, i understand everyone hates him. so we can relate.

- sorry i’m not always going to stan the conventional normal sweethearts.. they’re boring as fuck. I always stay fed with cody!

- there’s more that he’s done but the list is long

- i already know i’m gonna get attacked, so go ahead since it’s a free country (excuse my typos please)

what did jake paul do if you don't mind me asking?

i don’t mind at all !! well jake paul has always been one of those people where you question why they’re famous bc they haven’t really done anything to be famous ?? ( other than make ,,, rEALLY bad raps and live in their brother’s shadow and all that ) but LATELY after he cheated on alissa with tessa, alissa made a video explaining her side of the situation, which alluded to jake being emotionally abusive and kicking her out of the team ten house. and then after said team ten made a  terrible track / video / thing ??, which had both jake and tessa dissing alissa, alissa made a video of her own that spilled tea on jake. and then after that news spread that his neighbors hated living with him and often complained, but he just dissed them and made a video complaining about it. he also made RACIST comments towards a fan, including mocking their accent and calling them a terroristand then news broke that he had been fired from bizaardvark ( probably due to all the negative press he was receiving ). he shoved assaulted tessa brooks in a video. and LASTLY jake made a video about faze banks ( alissa’s new boo ) assaulting his assistant, and then alissa ( standing up for her boo ) and faze made another video that both EXPOSED jake for lying about the assistant thing to get more subscribers, and had alissa reveal some more incriminating things about jakeAND NOW jake’s lost over 104K subscribers ( this was after he was shitting rainbows over hitting 10M ), he’s being sued for defamation, slander, and libel of faze’s character, along with the rest of team ten, his neighbors are considering / have already issued him a lawsuit for unlawful conduct, including terrorizing them with parties and crazy stunts, he wants to work for disney, sabrina DRAGGED him for making her cut her set because he went on too long, and he already took down the nasty assistant video down. granted, he asked faze to settle it offline, which is probably for the best.

also, it’s not important as much as funny, but for a while if you look him up you’d see his age as one year old, and it was hilarious. he also made some racist and homophobic tweets in 2012, so take that as you will.

additional sources i couldn’t include : xx, xx, xx, xx, just honestly faze’s entire twitter feed as of late, this tweet that shows him being shitty, this tweet by neels, and an interesting read xx.

How To Know You’re In a Mass Hysteria Bubble

History is full of examples of Mass Hysterias. They happen fairly often. The cool thing about mass hysterias is that you don’t know when you are in one. But sometimes the people who are not experiencing the mass hysteria can recognize when others are experiencing one, if they know what to look for.

I’ll teach you what to look for.

Would you mind writing about the RFA(V , S) with a foreign MC whose parents are racist and don't allow her to be with them because they are Asian? But she dates them anyways because she loves them? (My grammar is $h*t I know)

This is so interesting. But it’s so touchy, I’m so afraid this can backfire and I’ll end up offending someone. Please let me know if this isn’t good, I’ll shut it down immediately (of course this is directed to my asian followers, couldn’t care less about white people’s feelings, including my own). Thank you all!

RFA + Saeran and V dealling with MC’s racist family

TRIGGER WARNING: Racism (obviously), misoginy, xenophobia (so sorry I forgot about this before, ugh… hope I didn’t do too much damage. I apologize if someone felt triggered expecting to get something else from this.

Zen

  • You introduced him to your father through Skype and he is…confused.
  • So… he’s an albino? And an oriental? How does that work?
  • Oh, and he’s an actor? Like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee? Did he ever play a karate fighter in some movie? Oh god…
  • “I’m pretty sure Jackie Chan is from Hong Kong, sir. And Bruce Lee was… Chinese, babe?” “I think he was born in America, and had a Chinese descendance…”
  • “And karate is a Japanese martial art, sir. They’re not all… oriental…” he says the word in disgust, ughhh… hearing this word in 21st century is awful!
  • “Oh, it’s all sort of the same thing, isn’t it?” Ohhhh… you’re so embarrassed, you want to turn it off immediately and scold your father for being… racist.
  • “No, it’s not, sir. Please don’t use a word that put hundreds of people from different cultures and countries in one tiny box. Please, get more sensitive about these issues now that your daughter is dating a KOREAN guy who will marry her someday. Have a nice day, sir.” And he turns it off.
  • “Oh, babe, I can’t believe I talked to your father like this, I’m so so…” “Don’t you dare apologizing for doing the right thing!”
  • “Well, yeah… but you know… this isn’t his fault. You know, asian actors play a lot of similar roles on American movies and TV series, so…” “Yeah, and this isn’t your fault either, my father isn’t dumb, he should see through stereotypes, we all should, you know?”
  • You were right. Zen kept thinking of this after you two went to bed. He couldn’t stop thinking of what he could do to change things.
  • And it hit him, the problem isn’t the asian actors, they just roll with the roles they can get, the problem is we don’t have enough asian people working on producing and writing jobs in entertainment, at least outside of asian countries, of course.
  • So now he’s thinking how he needs to expand his career in order to be a producer in USA or in Europe one day…
  • His manager sleeping beside him will help him through on this.

Yoosung

  • Your sister was in town and he was so excited to meet her.
  • She was excited as well, maybe too much throwing words like kawaii and calling him Yoosung-kun, you know, Japanese words.
  • “MC, she knows she’s in Korea and we speak Korean, right?” you’re too busy doing the facepalm to even answer.
  • And she keeps throwing Japanese terms totally out of context, for that matter. And Yoosung isn’t getting anything, he’s just scared of the way you’re glaring at her.
  • “Sis, shut up! You’re making a fool of yourself!” “What? I’m just showing support on you dating a jap guy.” “I’m not ‘jap’, I’m Korean. We… we are in Korea.” He says in a very kind way.
  • “Well, whatever, it’s all the same.” Oh god… oh no…
  • “No, we´re… we’re not.” He says assertively. Both you and your sister look at him, surprised.
  • “Jeez, calm down, cutie. I’m just trying to be nice and supportive. I’m super cool with my sister dating an asian guy and…” “But why do you have to be cool with it? There’s nothing to be cool about it, it’s just… you know what I’m trying to say? When you keep saying you’re cool and bringing my race and my country of origin everytime, I’m sorry… but I don’t think you’re cool with this at all. And that’s not…”
  • “Cool.” You complete for him and he smiles sweetly at you. “And please study a little, Japanese and korean have this historical feud, we don’t like being compared.” Oh wow, looks like he’s been studying too.
  • Your sister is so mad, she just stomps out of there telling she’ll never be back to this hellhole of a country and shit like that. Yoosung doesn’t understand how two people coming from the same environment can be so different like you two.
  •  “MC, are you really ok with your sister not really approving us?” “You mean if I’m okay with my sister being a xenophobic racist brat? Not really…”
  • “Oh… yeah, she was being kinda racist, right?” you nod. “Well, uhm… she seems to mean well, at least. That’s a start on us to teaching her.” “Yoosung, honey… you really don’t have to.” “I know, but I want to. She’s gonna be my family one day too, right?”
  • And that was the first time he made you blush in the ame way you’re used to making him.

Jaehee

  • You warned her about your brother being a little… nonsense. You know the guy who dated a black girl on high school and think he’s such a hero for it? That guy…
  • So he’s super excited to meet your asian girlfriend. Yeah, he emphasized “asian” a lot.
  • “Whoa, you’re tall. I thought you Asians were all tiny and cute…” hum, okay…
  • “And you are a blackbelt in judo? Whoa, dragon lady, am I right?” wtf, dude?
  • And he keeps throwing totally out of line comments about her body and how she’s nothing like he was expecting from an Asian girl, since all the asian girls he knows are completely different.
  • “The girls he saw on porn, that is.” You whisper to her, and she giggles, but deep inside she knows this is so wrong!
  • And since he won’t stop, she’s starting to get really angry. She needs to put a stop to this before he does THAT question about asian girls having sideways vaginas, because he seems douchy enough to make it.
  • “I know you mean well, but please stop before you say something really racist… and sexist as well.
  • “Sexist? And… racist? Ah, come on! I’m not racist, I’ve even dated a black girl on high school and…” See? I told you he was that guy.
  • “Hum… and I can’t even imagine why she isn’t dating you anymore…  if you used her race as a fetish like you’re doing to mine right now, we probably have an answer.” “What are you even saying, girl? You should feel lucky that MC has a supportive brother who doesn’t mind her dating another girl, an asian girl.”
  • “Oh, racist, mysoginistic and homophobic. You’re the triple threat, huh, bro? I won’t feel lucky for you doing nothing but your obligation, especially when you’re doing it wrong!” “What’s gotten to you, MC? I’m your family, you can’t talk to me like that!” “You can’t talk to me and to my girlfriend like this either, if you’re family, educate yourself before acting like an asshole!”Well, she’s not happy on being the cause of a fight between brother and sister… no, forget that, his racism was the cause of this. And she’s so happy you two are on the same page of this.

Jumin

  • He made sure to pay for bringing your dad to Korea so they could finally meet. Despite of your protests of this being a bad investment.
  • He didn’t get it at first, but as soon as he met him, he understood.
  • Because your dad wasn’t even inclined to a handshake. He was a very serious cold man.
  • Jumin is worried if this has anything to do with those three days, did you mention the cage or something? Well, he wouldn’t be exactly pleased if someone trapped his daughter like he did to you…
  • He tells you that as an apology when your father goes to his bedroom to unpack, and you feel so bad. “Jumin, honey… you’re not the problem here at all…”
  • “What do you mean, MC?” “Well, I… have I told you my father used to work in the U.S.  forces, right?”
  • He has a solid knowledge in politics, so he knows your father is probably thinking about North Korea and the constant fear of the possibility of a war starting at any moment…
  • But… he’s south Korean, what does this have anything to do with North and USA? “Well, you know how ignorance works, especially when it’s related to nationalism…”
  • Right you are, but still… this is such a touchy subject, that shouldn’t interfere in your relationship. And… well, if his race is the problem, then your father is being racist, it doesn’t matter if politics are involved.
  • “Plus, if this war happens. USA and South will likely be allies, as it happened before, so no need for you to dislike me, sir.” Well, you don’t like the idea behind his point, but… he’s sort of right? “We are not all the same, sir. Please understand this and respect your daughter’s wishes of staying with me. I’m sure in the end you’re just thinking what’s best for her, and believe me, I’m doing the best I can in order to fulfill this position.”
  • Your father looks at him head to toes. “You’re smart and reasonable, I like that you’re different from the gooks I met in Vietnam.” And he offers his hand for that handshake, which… Jumin doesn’t take it,
  • The man is still racist and xenophobic after all. And you know this isn’t even close to an end…

Saeyoung

  • He’s really excited to meet your sister
  • Then you introduce them two and they’re both nice to each other and all.
  • At least that’s what he thought before overhearing you talking in the guest room.
  • “He’s adorable, MC, and he doesn’t look that asian.” Hum… what is that supposed to mean?
  • “What do you even mean?” “I mean, he’s… redhead, and has this cool outfit, where’s the nerd kid with slicky hair that’s really good at math or something?”
  • “He is really good at math, but you’re just repeating stereotypes, come on!” “Well, there’s a lot of truth in stereotypes, y’ know?” “There’s also a lot of prejudice.” Slaaay MC, slaaaay.
  •  “Ugh, MC, ever since when did you become so prudish? Jeez, people are so touchy these days…”  even though he knows he shouldn’t,  he speaks up:  “I know, right? People can’t even be racist anymore without being called out, that’s awful!”
  • “I… I’m not racist! I am super happy for my sister dating a guy regardless of his race and…” “Regardless? Oh my God!” you and Saeyoung  say at the same time.
  • “No, honey. Of course you’re not a racist, you’re just saying that your sister is some kind of angel for being able to see a normal person behind these slant eyes of mine, and she not minding my race is a favor she’s doing…”
  • “MC, are you really letting him talk to me like this?” “I guess I will, since I’m no angel. And you brought this on yourself.”
  • Of course he didn’t want to be mean to your sister, but he totally went for it when you told him he could.
  • But on a more serious note, he wants your sister to be educated at some point, it’s not good living in ignorance, and he wouldn’t that for someone so close to you, neither would you.
  • So you two will try to be patient and show there’s much more than that portrayal of the nerd asian boy.

Saeran

  • He wouldn’t say it loud, but he is excited about meeting your mother.
  • But you keep changing the subject and backing away on this.
  • And he doesn’t know what to think, why wouldn’t him to meet the woman who raised you? Oh… wait, he knows what this is about…
  • You’re embarrassed about him, ain’t you? Because he’s a freak and would definitely screw things up, of course!
  • He confronts you, and you feel so bad, especially because now you have to tell the truth: “I’m not embarrassed of you, I’m embarrassed of her…” the fuck?
  • “W-why?” “Well, she can be a little… odd.” Odd? How?
  • Doesn’t care, he wants to meet her, I mean, haven’t you heard about his mother? What could be worse than that?
  • And though maybe it’s not worse, is still pretty bad. “I’m not a racist, but I think pure genes are really important on a child’s brain development, so I would rather seeing my daughter with a white young man.” Oh my god…
  • He… doesn’t really know what to say, he kinda expected your mother would hate him, but because he is weird, not because of something he was born like and has nothing to do with his personality.
  • “Mom, that’s so… racist.” Hmmm, yeah, that’s the word he was looking for. “No, sweetie, I’m just thinking what’s best for you.”
  • “So are you saying you think your daughter would be happier with, say, a white guy who beats her up than with someone who likes her and respects her just because he’s not white? That makes no sense”.
  • “No, of course not… I… I just…” “Mom, trust me, just end this conversation here while you didn’t mess up completely.”
  • He’s so happy to know you have his back, and this is not only about his race.

V

  • He’s thrilled and slightly nervous about meeting your brother.
  • You’re nervous too, but for very different reasons.
  • You know those people who don’t consider themselves right-winged or left-winged, his political stand is moving forward? That guy…
  • And V was having very interesting conversations with the guy when he says this: “My sister is just like me, we don’t see race, we just see people.”
  • “Well, that’s nice, but it’s very easy for a white person to say that, you know? Since race doesn’t really play a role on their accomplishments and, most important, obstacles.”
  • “What do you mean? That white people don’t put effort enough to get things?” “No, I’m just saying that you get to face obstacles, but your race is not playing a part on this. I mean…  MC is white, but she’s a woman, so she won’t get the same wage as you in the same job, it’s the same thing with race, white people earn more for the same job in a lot of cases.”
  • “Now you’re just generalizing, don’t you think you’re doing…”  wait for it… “reverse racism?” Oh no…
  • “I… don’t believe such a thing exists.” “It does, look it up.”
  • “I will, then you look up on racial inequality in labor market, how does that sound?” “You don’t have to be condescending, you know?”
  • “I’m not, I’m just giving you a reality check you’re refusing to face. But I get it, it’s hard giving up on your white privileges.” “There you are being racist again.”
  • “Dude, even I know that is not a thing, just stop, you’re embarrassing yourself.” “Yes give up on your male privileges too and listen to the woman at least for once.”
  • Your brother scoffs “You two are such a postmodern couple.” “And you’re pedantic.” “Not to mention a little racist?” you and V say.
  • Well, this was a very clever conversation, and your brother seems smart, V can’t wait to educate him in a more proper way.

I think Bethesda does a better job with the concept of Grey Morality ™ than Bioware.

Let me give you an example. The Stormcloaks. The stormcloaks, without question, are a racist organization. Other than Ralof, who has to not be racist for plot reasons (specifically if he were rude to a Khajiit Dovahkiin for example, the player would probably entirely ignore the possibility of joining the stormcloaks ever again, and that shuts out at least a few hours of your content.) this is true for most Stormcloaks.

Bethesda lets us know they are racist and horrible. They don’t, for example, have one of the generals wax poetically about how bad he feels for the Argonians, but how skyrim must be free because blah blah blah blah.

Now, knowing the Stormcloaks are racist, and that backing them probably means Argonians, Dunmer, Reachmen, Khajiit, etc will suffer, how does Bethesda get people to still support them?

That’s two-fold. One: Making it about religious freedom. Most stormcloaks just wanted to worship Talos. The Empire, without their consent, made the agreement that they would stop worshipping the god. This adds a splash of dirt against the empire that (other than being an empire and empires mostly being fucked up,) had little dirt to it, and it paints the Stormcloaks as noble and religious, simply fighting for their right to believe. (The fact that Talos and Jesus have parallels and the game was likely developed for a Western predominantly Christian market doesn’t hurt.)

Two: They add a bigger bad. Not Alduin, but the Thalmor. The Thalmor are racist against literally everyone. They are a threat to every race but other altmer. They torture and do many other inhumane acts. Next to them, both the Empire and the Stormcloaks look like saints.

Bethesda doesn’t vilify the oppressed Khajiit or the Argonians.or the Dunmer. They vilify the privileged Altmer.

There are argonian and Khajiit criminals. There are bad Dunmer. But the game doesn’t take these incidents and write over them in big block letters ‘SEE THIS IS WHY THE STORMCLOAKS ARE RIGHT!!! the way Bioware often does with mages and elves.

I could be babbling or I could be on to something, IDK.

weshallattackatonce  asked:

Okay I'm new to MCR so I have just one question, what did bob do to make everyone hate him?

Oh god ok. Where to start. There’s been quite a lot of stuff that’s happened over the years and I don’t have all the receipts on me at the moment but basically he’s like hella racist and has said a whole litany of really shitty things. He also kind of harassed mikey a little bit on social media after he left the band which is just, not cool especially since I would die for any of the ways. But yeah I think those are kind of the main things? My good friend Sarah @isnthatsomething probably has all the receipts bc drama and hatred of bob are like her two specialties so if you want specifics I’d recommend asking her (or someone else idk I’m sorry I don’t have it all bookmarked ahh).

I hope that kind of answers your question? Welcome to the fandom, we’re all dying but at least it’s good for the aesthetic right.
