Dr Maru’s notes, translated

As an Assyriologist-in-training, I was pretty excited about cuneiform’s little cameo in Wonder Woman- there are no films at all about Mesopotamia, so even three seconds of flipping through a notebook of the languages I study was pretty exciting to see on the big screen. Now, I assumed at first that the writing in Dr Maru’s notebook, would simply be gibberish, but one thing about it stuck with me: how well copied the letters were. Now, Cuneiform writing was designed for clay and stylus, and it is BRUTALLY hard to write cuneiform symbols with pen and paper. You’d think you could just draw a bunch of triangles, but nope; the system was so clearly designed to use nuances only possible with stylus and clay, they’re nigh on impossible to accurately reproduce using pen. And whoever wrote that piece of paper did a damn good job of it. So, I remained convinced the text might actually have some meaning, and when I got home I started tinkering with it.

First things first: though the notes were described in the film as “Sumerian and Ottoman”, they’re not Sumerian. Dr Maru’s notes are very clearly written in the quite distinctive script of Neo-Assyrian Cuneiform, which was used on official inscriptions of the Assyrian Empire from around 1000- 700 BC. Sumerian died out as a spoken language in around 2000 BC and though it continued to be used in writing long after that in the same way Latin was in Europe, it was probably never written in the formal Assyrian script.

I’m going to safely assume the man who mistakenly called the page “Sumerian and Ottoman” got it wrong, but the fact that Diana doesn’t correct this, despite her vastly superior knowledge of ancient languages is interesting. Consider this though: historians estimate the destruction of the site of Hissarlik, which is thought MIGHT be the inspiration for the Troy legends to around 1300 BC, around the time of the Bronze Age collapse and dawn of the Greek Dark Ages. If we take this as the end of the Greek Mythic age and the hiding of Themiscyra in the DC Universe, Diana would only have been able to study Cuneiform scripts written before this period so she would know only Old Babylonian Cursive, or possibly even only Old Babylonian Lapidary. Neo-Assyrian script would be just legible with effort, but difficult for her to read.

Now, the way cuneiform works is that any one cuneiform symbol can represent one or more alphabetic sounds, OR syllables, OR entire words. Most stand for a number of those things, but some represent only one. The symbols that represent entire words are called Logograms, and they remained largely consistent through all the changes of the cuneiform writing system. If Dr Maru’s notes were primarily written in Logograms (which they turned out to be), it would make sense for Diana to still be able to read them despite the considerable changes between Old Babylonian Lapidary and Neo-Assyrian script, and also that she wouldn’t have to know Assyrian-era Akkadian to understand the logographic signs (because they represent whole words at once rather than spell them out alphabetically, they can be understood by speakers of multiple languages who know the signs).

So having sorted all that out, I began to translate. Virtually all the symbols were logograms standing for words like mountain, woman, king, builder etc, but a limited few stood for single syllables like “ru” or “ti”. This made no sense, because the signs used were consistent enough with the actual context in the film to make some sense and logically repetitive. Whoever wrote this knew what they were doing. Why intersperse them with random letters? I finally realised: Dr Maru is a chemist. The way her code works is that she uses mostly logograms, but uses signs for syllables when those syllables are our modern symbols for chemical elements. Every sign where a syllable-only translation was my only option, that syllable matched up with the abbreviation for a chemical element in the periodic table.

So, working with the assumption that Dr Poison’s code technique is using Logograms to represent whole words, and the symbols for sole syllables like ka, ga, la etc in their standard transcriptions from cuneiform to represent chemical elements, here it is at last, the first page of Dr Maru’s notebook:

To divide the town, one unit of the weapon to the throne of the builder: to please the builder, in the company of the god: lithium, 1 grain/seed of europium. 1 daughter of gold woman -  yours. Country [given?] to god and then [to] lord/god/king. Ruthenium possibility, carbon disulfide*, and then rhenium. May it be pleasing to the country. Animal shoulder** Uunhexium*** . Lord/god and then gallium, and then radium. Weapon, iodine, administrator.

*This sign can mean “tree, wood” or, just stand for the sound “s”. So, i was left with a choice between carbon and sulfur, and settled on the compound

**I have no fricking idea why that’s in there, but it’s definitely that sign. Maybe she wants to make a pot roast and scribbled it down? Someone draw me happy dr maru and her pot roast pls

***This sign was VERY hard to identify, but i finally settled on the Old Babylonian Lapidary sign for “uuh”. Uuh also happens to be the chemical symbol for Ununhexium or Livermorium, a rare earth element not identified until the year 2000. This is strange, because this sign is CLEARLY Lapidary, while all the others are in the Neo-Assyrian script. So my conclusion is that Dr Poison isolated Uunhexium 92 years ahead of the game, it’s her big secret, and decided it needed a unique Logogram of its own, for which she adopted the sign for Uuh.

You heard rustling in the next “room” followed by the partition sliding aside. Bucky stumbled out of the bedroom, rubbing a hand over his face. His chin-length hair stuck out in ten different directions and he was clad in only a pair of boxers.

“Morning, handsome,” you greeted him with an amused smile.

He let out a groan, “What time is it?”

“Almost noon.”

“And…where are we?”

You chuckled, “Somewhere in the midwest, I think. St. Louis, maybe?”

Dinner // H.S.

I open the oven and take out the chicken before turning it off and attending to the green beans on the stove. I fan myself with a nearby magazine to cool my skin. It’s hot. Too hot. I leave the stove after checking that the knobs are all correctly turned, walking over to the living room to turn the temperature down a few degrees. As I turn to make my way back to the kitchen, I hear the jiggling of keys and the click of the lock. A few seconds later, the door opens to reveal a very exhausted Harry.

“Hey, baby. How was your day?”

He scoffs and drops his messenger bag onto the floor before collapsing into a chair at the dining table.

“Not the best, (y/n).”

I walk over and stand behind him, rubbing his shoulders and neck lightly. He had been in the studio every day for the past two weeks and I’ve been noticing how stressed he is. They’ll be touring before we know it and it’ll only get worse.

“How come?”

“We were supposed to be done today, but I kept screwing up this one verse. We ended up just leaving for the day, so we’ll all have to go back tomorrow and-“ he sighs and rests his face in his palms, “I’m just so out of it.”

“You’ll get it tomorrow and it’ll be done early in the day. We’ll do something to celebrate, I promise.” I remove my hands from his shoulders and walk back into the kitchen to make plates for us both. “But, for now, how about we eat, yeah?”

He forces a grin and stands up to join me in the kitchen, opening the fridge and pulling out a beer bottle.

“Y/N, you want anything to drink?”

“Erm, yeah, grab me a beer as well.”

He does so and brings them to the table, along with silverware. I fill our plates with chicken, green beans, and salad before joining him at the table. He sits across from me, but he’s not so far since the table is more of a small square. We start to eat in silence and I mostly watch him stare at his plate and I can tell he’s beating himself up over his little mistakes. I already know there’s nothing I can say to comfort him, but I do know something that I can do. He’ll never admit to it, but he absolutely loves being possessive, and I know I shouldn’t like it, but it’s basically the hottest fucking thing he does. He does need a distraction.

“So, work was interesting today.”

I smile wickedly at him and he finally looks at me.

“Oh yeah? What happened?”

I look down and push my green beans around with my fork, still grinning deviously.

“There’s this new guy at the office; he’s quite cheeky. He kept showing up at my cubicle to talk to me and he’s really quite handsome. He even went out and got me Starbucks.”

I glance up and he is staring at me now, his fists balled up on the table. I try to hide my excitement, but I can see the jealousy burning in his eyes.

“Really. And what else?”

I look up innocently and flip my hair over my shoulder. He’s impatiently awaiting my reply.

“He asked me on a date.”

In all honesty, I laughed in Tommy’s face, pointing at the picture of Harry and I on my desk. He was disappointed, but I could really care less. I already have the man of my dreams and I couldn’t ask for anything more. For the sake of my desire to have Harry fuck me on this table, I lie straight to his fuming face.

“I said I’d think about it.”

I pretend to think little of my response, putting one last bite of chicken into my mouth before deciding I’m done. I look up and his face is red, his eyes narrowed and dark. I pick up my plate and carry it nonchalantly to the sink. I rinse it off, and dispose of the few leftover pieces. As soon as the water shuts off, I feel two large, warm hands grasp onto my hips. Harry presses his crotch into my behind and I try to hold back a moan, but the tightness of his pants against my thin yoga pants is too much. I turn to face him and immediately, he roughly pulls my shirt over my head, letting it fall to the counter next to the sink. He doesn’t kiss me, but presses his lips to my neck instead, pulling the skin between his teeth and sucking harshly. A bruise appears quickly and he releases my neck, rolling his tongue over it soothingly. His mouth finds its way to my ear next as his hands run over my torso before reaching to my back and unhooking my bra.

“This mark is proof that you’re mine.”

He hisses the last part in my ear making my legs feel like jello. His hips push into me harder than before, holding me up between him and the counter. I don’t respond to him, because I don’t want him to be done yet. If I agree, he might just return to his dinner. Instead, I maintain a straight face so that he creates similar hickies on each of my breasts, the contact causing me to pant uncontrollably. My chest rises and falls under his mouth and I feel myself get incredibly wet. I wrap my arms around him, tugging at the hem of his shirt, but he grabs my wrists, slamming them against the cupboard and pinning them there. The harsh contact with the wood makes me cry out, but I love the feeling.

“I’m going to show you, Y/N. You’re mine. No one else’s.”

He flips me around and pushes my back down so that my chest is flat against the freezing countertop. I feel his warm fingers hook onto my pants and thong, pulling them down and leaving them at my ankles. I try to turn around to look at him, but he presses my cheek onto the cold granite. He removes his hand, but I don’t dare move my body, no matter how curious I am. I see from the corner of my eyes as his shirt falls to the floor. I close my eyes and gulp as I hear the zipper of his jeans and the light noise of the material hitting the floor. One of his hands grips onto my hip as I feel his hard member between my thighs. I instinctively spread my legs shoulder width apart to give him room. I want him so badly and he doesn’t even realize what I’m doing. That’s the point. I want jealousy pumping through his veins the entire time. My eyes are still closed when he pushes himself into my entrance without any warning, making me gasp as he fills me up. My hands smack onto the surface, trying to claw at it. Once inside, Harry instantly pulls back, thrusting back in ten times harder than the first time. My lips part, resting against the counter, moans expelling as he continues to thrust, slowly out and very quickly in. His free hand runs up my back and finally reaches my head. He holds tightly to a tuft of my hair, pulling on it lightly. My head lifts from the cold surface and he bends down to run his lips along my shoulder. The position makes his thrusts hit the perfect spot, making me scream loudly. He pulls my hair again and I arch my back, lifting my chest off of the counter as well. His other hand leaves my hip and holds onto my breast instead, holding my body there.

“Say it, Y/N. Say you’re mine.”

I can’t speak. I can’t do anything but whimper and pant in pleasure. He slams into me, this time his hips slapping against my bottom and he stops there. I long for more friction. I need it.

“I’ll stay right here until you say it.”

He tugs at my hair again and leans down to nibble at my earlobe. His lips are tantalizing me even more.

“I’m yours, Harry! Please, fuck me!”

I can feel his devilish grin against my shoulder as he pulls his body back up to stand up straight as he continues the movement of his hips, making my jaw drop in ecstasy.

“All mine, Y/N!”

I feel my climax approach and moan loudly as his fingers reach around my thigh and rub tight circles around my clit.

“All yours, Harry! All yours! Ohh, god. I’m clossse!”

He gyrates his hips to hit my g-spot each time and the loud, deep groans escaping his throat send me over the edge. My legs shake and tremble when he slows his pace down, coming as he mumbles my name over and over under his breath. As we finish together, he pulls out and when he is no longer holding me up, I let myself fall to the floor. He pulls his pants up and joins me, sitting on the wooden floor and pulling me into his arms comfortingly, kissing my lips passionately. I try to catch my breath between kisses, finally resting my head on his shoulder and chuckling lightly.

“I guess I’ll say no to that date, then.”

The Mob

Protective Best Friend Shawn miniseries

Shawn’s out at a radio thing. You were originally planning to go with him, but you ended up not waking up early enough to go. So you’re up in his hotel room killing time until he’s done. You woke up a couple hours ago, which was a couple of hours after Shawn had left.

After lying in bed and scrolling through all your social media accounts, you decide that you really want to try going to a little cafe you saw the day before on the way to the hotel. It’s a couple blocks over. After getting ready, you head downstairs. Once you’re in the hotel lobby, you notice that there seems to be a lot of people outside the hotel. Looking at the demographics, mostly teenaged girls with a few dudes with cameras off to the side, you think it’s safe to say they’re there for Shawn. Good thing Shawn isn’t with you.

You exit the hotel, and you’re caught off guard when the noise levels increase from the people around you. Girls start rushing you, the first few asking for pictures. You’re flustered and confused as to why they’d want pictures with you when you’re nobody and Shawn isn’t even here. You don’t want to tell them no, so you agree. After a few pictures, they start asking you questions about Shawn. You try to be polite and answer what you can.

The paparazzi somehow decide that you’re now worth photographing, also something you don’t exactly understand. So now there are cameras flashing. And girls start asking you personal questions, and pushing in closer and closer to you. More phones are being shoved in your face. More girls are wanting pictures. And it’s just you alone in the middle of all of this. You’ve never found yourself in a situation like this before. Ever situation close to this, you were accompanied by Jake and Geoff and Andrew and Shawn. You were never alone in the middle of the crowd.

You force yourself to breathe. And you try to be polite and not let it show that you’re seriously freaking out, even though you are. It takes a lot longer than you’d like, but you finally manage to push through the crowd and make it down the street away from the hotel. At least no one follows after you. You speed walk to the cafe, and decide not to get coffee since your anxiety levels are already so high. You get a croissant and a hot chocolate, and then you take a seat in the corner to eat and try to calm down.

Just as you’re finishing your croissant, you receive a text from Shawn letting you know that he’s on his way back to the hotel. He’s asking you what you want to do for lunch and if you want to go out to explore the city. You quickly type your response, letting him know that you already ate, and that you’re not really up for exploring. A few seconds later, your phone is ringing, and its Shawn calling.

“Hello?” You answer, quietly. The cafe is mostly empty, but still you don’t want to be rude or inconsiderate. You take the last bite of the croissant and throw your trash away before taking your cup still half full of hot chocolate and heading outside. You stand in front of the cafe, hyper aware of everyone around because the last thing you want is to get caught in another crowd.

“Hey y/n. We’re about ten minutes out. You don’t want to walk around the city?” He questions. “You were so excited about it yesterday.” He says, and he’s right. You wouldn’t shut up about exploring the city, but that was yesterday.

“Yeah, I think I’m just going to go back to the hotel in a little bit.”

“And you’re going to stay there? Are you not feeling well?” He asks, sounding confused. He has a right to be since you’re always the one who wants to go and explore. You love traveling and seeing new places, and you hate being stuck inside for too long, so whenever you happen to be visiting Shawn in a new city, you always want to see as much of it as you possibly can. But this time its different.

“No, I just don’t really feel like going out.”

“Uh, okay.” He responds, still sounding confused. “I’ll be back soon.”

“Okay,” You say, getting ready to say goodbye, but then you think of something and say, “Wait, Shawn!”

“Yeah?”

“Do you think, maybe, do you think that Geoff would be able to walk me into the hotel?” You ask.

“Hmm?” He questions like he didn’t immediately process your request, then he says, “Y/n whats going on? Why do you need Geoff to walk you in?”

“I just don’t want to walk in by myself.” You respond. “Please,” you add, and your voice must sound desperate because Shawn agrees. He assures you they’ll be back in about five minutes.

You go into the shop right next door to the cafe to pass some time. When Shawn texts you that they’ve arrived, you reply that you’ll be back in about ten minutes. Even though its only a three minute walk, you want to make sure that Shawn is inside before you arrive. You don’t think you can take the chaos that is his fans when he’s around.

Geoff meets you about halfway between the hotel and the cafe, since Shawn asked for your location and you told him where you were, he must have sent Geoff after you.

“Hey, y/n.” Geoff greets you. He tries to make small talk, asking about your morning, and telling you about how the radio thing went. You’re just glad he doesn’t question why Shawn had him come get you. Again the fans start getting excited, probably because they all know Geoff too, but this time it doesn’t get too crazy. Geoff leads you through the group of fans and into the lobby, and this time its uneventful, which you’re grateful for. Shawn is waiting inside the lobby, hidden from the view of everyone outside.

He stands up when he sees you, pulling you into a hug. “Whats going on?” He questions, as soon as his arms are around you. He probably could sense the unsteadiness in your voice on the phone, and he worried. You just shake your head at him, letting him know you don’t want to talk about it now.

He lets go and you head towards the elevator with his whole crew. When you reach your floor, Andrew says, “Let me know if you want to go get lunch or anything.”

Shawn glances at you quickly, then responds, “Probably not, but we’ll let you know if that changes. Thanks, Andrew.”

He nods, and you and Shawn stop at his room, Shawn pulling out his room key. He opens the door, and you immediately walk in and lay down on the bed. He follows closely behind, taking a seat on the bed, and looking over at you. “Y/n, please tell me what happened.” He finally says after a minute.

“It wasn’t anything. I just don’t feel like going out today.”

“Thats a lie. I can’t try to help you if I don’t know whats going on with you.”

You don’t respond, you just roll over and bury your face in your hands. He scoots a little closer, you can tell because you feel the bed move. He starts rubbing your back soothingly, and you just stay like that for a while until he suddenly stops moving his hand.

“What the fuck?” He says, and you lift your head to look at him. He’s staring at his phone, and you’re confused, since the look on his faced shows he’s pissed. “So this is why you don’t want to go out.”

“What?” You question, sitting up a little.

“They fucking mobbed you.” He says, his eyes still not leaving the screen.

Of course he would find out. it was naive of you to think that he wouldn’t.

“Shawn–” you try to explain, but he interrupts.

“That’s not okay, ever. Fuck! They can’t do that!” He’s pissed.

“Shawn, its okay.” You try to tell him. You really don’t need him to be angry like this right now. You know that he’s only mad because he knows it affected you so much, but you really don’t think you can deal with him being mad right now, even if his anger is on your behalf.

“No, its not. They don’t have a right to do that to you. You don’t deserve that. You didn’t ask for it, you didn’t sign up for it. They can do that shit to me, but not to you.”

“Shawn,” You say, your voice a lot quieter than you wish. “Please can you just leave it?”

He looks at you like he can’t believe your request, “No, y/n. I saw the video, and it was just you there, alone in the middle of everyone. That’s unacceptable.”

“Shawn,” You repeat, “I just can’t. I don’t–I don’t want to think about it right now. I won’t go out alone anymore. It’s fine.”

He sighs loudly and runs his fingers through his hair. “Y/n,” He finally says, and you think he’s going to say something else, but he falls silent after that.

“It happened, we can’t change it.” You respond.

“I’m sorry.” He apologizes, and you can tell he genuinely feels responsible for what happened.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

“It was, if it weren’t for me, there wouldn’t be anyone standing outside the hotel.” This sentence could come off as cocky in some senses, but coming from Shawn in this moment, the way he’s saying it its almost like he’s saying he’s the reason for people trying to kill you or something.

You lean over, resting your head on his shoulder. “Don’t blame yourself, please.” You tell him. He doesn’t respond, and you know that means he’s not agreeing to your request. “Shawn, seriously,” You speak again. And finally he nods.

“Let’s order room service and watch a movie?” He offers, and you nod in agreement. Thats the best thing you’ve heard all day.

Speak and I'll Listen

Cas and Dean have been neighbors since they were six years old, the fact that Cas is deaf meaning little to Dean until an accident makes it all too clear. Valentine’s Day special.

Dean had lived across from Castiel since he was six years old. He still remembered when the Novak’s had moved in, and how excited he’d been when a little black-haired boy with a bee stuffed animal had tottered into the house after his mother. Because they’d been the same age, and as far as Dean’s six-year-old brain had figured, that meant he got to make a new friend. Dean had always been happy to make friends.

He’d begged his mother for days – from the arms of their couches and edges of countertops – to go and meet them. With Sam on her hip, she’d said, “no, not now,” leaving Dean to wander up to his room dejected and staring out his window at the blue house across the lonely road.

Until the weekend had finally arrived, at which point Mary had packed together a welcome basket, spurred John out of the garage, and held Sam’s hand as they headed from one side across to the next. Dean had been jumping with excited nerves, smiling with his new football held in his tiny hands.

Up the stone walkway to the porch and front door of the house, Mary had knocked, the group waiting with varying degrees of anticipation.

A thin, mousy, blonde haired woman had answered, looking them up and down in silent surprise that Dean had failed to notice. He’d been too busy trying to peek past her legs into the house, looking for the little boy he’d thought he’d invite to play out in the yard.

“Um, hello,” the strange woman had greeted. Mary had said some nice words, introduced them, and soon enough they’d been in the house. Gathered in the kitchen, Dean had looked between the adult’s legs with a vigorous kind of searching, hands flexing around the football. Until, finally being noticed by Mary, an explanation had been given.

“Dean saw your son, I think,” she’d said to the strange woman, a questioning smile on her bright face, as if to make sure she’d been assuming correctly. “He’s been bugging me all week to come over and talk to you so they could play.”

“Oh…” Dean had turned hopefully up to them, not perceptive enough to see that the blonde – her name was Amelia – had been fidgeting in unease, her voice hardly above a murmur. “Well…” She’d looked Dean up and down – at his ruffled blonde hair and dirt-smudged face. He’d been teaching Sam how to catch earlier, to little success. “I suppose that… that might be alright.”

Both Mary and John had been perplexed by her hesitance, but said nothing on it as she’d walked from the kitchen. Figuring that perhaps she was simply overprotective, they’d instead focused on stopping Sam from wandering under the bar chairs, getting him rounded up just in time for Amelia to return to the room.

She’d been bent over someone, hands on the small shoulders of the little boy walking ahead of her. He’d been gripping his bee stuffed animal, a look of nervousness painted across his delicate features as he’d looked the newcomers up and down. His black hair had been nicely brushed, no filthy spots on his clothes.

None of this had deterred Dean however, who’d bounded forward with a smile, successfully startling the other boy, whose blue eyes had widened in surprise.

12.20 coda

Max’s eyes get this predatory gleam in them when he looks down into the Impala. Big guns; they’ve always impressed people. It’s a look Dean recognizes in his own face, the same youth-bright passion for really cool shit. He can’t help smirking a bit as he watches Max lean over the trunk.

“So. Bartender’s number, huh?” Dean says.

Max smirks too, still drinking in the Impala’s arsenal in all her splendor. “Oh yeah. Got a date tonight, in fact. Wouldn’t mind showing him the backseat of this baby,” he purrs.

Dean blinks. “Him?”

Max straightens, frowns at him. “Uh, yeah,” he scoffs. “Problem?”

Dean shakes his head, so fast that the world tips on its side for a minute. “Just making conversation,” he coughs.

Max still looks kind of hesitant, though. He takes a step back from Dean and ducks his head to inspect the rims.

Dean watches the back of his head as he does. Young guy, sister that loves him and sticks with him, a mother he adores and doesn’t have to worry about so much. A hot dude bartender’s number.

Dean swallows past a sudden lump in his throat.

This is everything I could have had.

You glanced down at Harry, sitting cross legged in the shopping cart, and couldn’t help but laugh. He was touching both ends of the cart and you imagined he must be uncomfortable.

“Harry? Do you see popcorn?” You questioned him.

“No, Rosebud, I don’t,” Harry replied absent mindedly.

“Well, first you would have to look, Harry. I mean maybe if you stopped making me push you and helped me this would go a bit faster.”

“Fine, fine. Stop the cart.” Harry stood up and stumbled his way out of the cart, banging his knee in the process, “Happy now?”

“Yes.” You smiled at Harry and playfully rolled your eyes.

“Hey! We had a deal, if I let you pick the movie this time you wouldn’t make me shop!”

“Yes, then I remembered that required pushing you and plans changed! Can you reach that soda, H?” You pointed to the diet coke on the top shelf and watched Harry reach up and grab it. He placed it in the cart and looked at you expectantly.

“What next? We have, soda, paper plates, twizzlers, sour patch kids, and chips. What else do we need?”

“Well we need popcorn, that I for some reason can’t find, and caramels.”

“Ahh, right, can’t forget your caramels!”

“Shush, do you want me to get you some too?” You started to roll the cart down the aisle and look around for your favorite chocolates.

“Nope, I prefer gummy bears.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, I am positive.”

An hour later you and Harry had left the store and made your way back to your apartment. You unlocked your cherry red door and walked inside with your hands full of groceries. Harry closed the door behind you and grabbed two bags from your grasp. Setting them on the kitchen table, he started to look at your walls. Harry loved the walls of your apartment, they were absolutely covered in art. Most of it you had done yourself, you had just sold some to a gallery local to you and Harry was extremely excited. You had a few paintings on the wall of your bedroom inspired by Harry, some of them were based on candid photos you had taken of him. Some were him laughing, others were him cooking (or burning water) but some of your favorites were him smiling, putting his dimples on display.

“Wanna come pick out a movie, Haz?” You asked, going back and forth between standing on your tippy toes and standing flat.

“Sure,” Harry answered, his dimples popping out, “Would you be mad if I suggested The Notebook again?”

You playfully rolled your eyes, “As an artist, your lack of creativity while picking movies insults me.”

“Oh, I see, you only love me when I help you make a fort.”

“Right, I’m glad you’ve caught on.”  This time, it was Harry’s turn to roll his eyes, “Now come on, I wanna pick a movie as early as possible. You take forever to decide, and we don’t want to be here all night.”

You grab Harry’s hand and tugged him along with you to your living room. Your apartment was small, but full of life, the color’s yellow and white made many appearances in your living space. Harry’s eyes fell on the huge book case that went from the floor to the ceiling. He remembered making it with you last spring. You had insisted you needed three bookshelves, but you absolutely couldn’t pay for them already put together. So, you and Harry had arranged the wood yourselves and painted it. One was yellow and stood in your bedroom, the other still had its original appearance and was in your living room. The last one had a place in your art room, it happened to be splatter painted. The bottom two rows were filled with movies, you had arranged them in order of your least favorite to favorite. You always said, ‘Always save the best for last, so if the worst upsets you, the best will make it all better again.’

You soon broke Harry out of his little memory, “I’m thinking Disney movies! How about Beauty and The Beast? I know how much you love the music in that one!” It was no surprise that Harry loved music, although he owned a bakery, he would always sing on his free time. You worked at a local café within walking distance from your house, so sometimes Harry would walk you home. You would paint, keeping what it was a surprise until its finished, and Harry would sing to you. If there was one thing that helped you fall asleep, or stop crying, or just break into a smile, it was Harrys voice.

“Whatever you want, petal. But, just so you know, I wouldn’t mind watching The Notebook after,” Harry cheekily mentioned.

You crouched down to grab the movies with a smile on your face, “Okay, goober, sounds like a plan. Go to the closet and grab a bunch of pillows and blankets please! We’re gonna make the best fort in the history of all forts.” Every time you and Harry had a movie night, you two would work together to make a comfy fort. And today was absolutely no exception.

Harry came back with his arms full of pillows and blankets and stumbled into the living room, placing them down on the couch.

“Perfect,” You exclaimed, “Now that’s get to work!” The next hour was filled with you and Harry strategically stacking pillows and draping blankets where they seemed to fit. With the aid of some chairs and the couch of course, you finished the fort. It looked sort of like patchwork from a bird’s eye view, but you have always loved things that didn’t make sense. You gave Harry a triumphant high five and admired your work.

“Snack time!” You said in a sing-songy voice, shaking your hips a little bit.

“Right,” Harry laughed, “I’ll pop the popcorn if you pour the soda.”

“Deal.” You gave Harry a fist bump and jumped into action, trying to avoid knocking the fort at all costs. Once you reached the kitchen, you strategically poured the soda, so it didn’t bubble over, and carried the cups to the coffee table. You went back to grab the bags of snacks you had bought earlier, and skillfully placed them into the fort. Behind you came Harry carrying a bowl of buttery popcorn. You witnessed him steal a few pieces and gently slapped his hand away from the bowl.

“I was just tasting it, love. Had to make sure it was safe for you to eat!” He mumbled in attempt to excuse himself.

“Excuses, excuses,” You whispered, shaking your head back and forth, “Can you be a spectacular best friend and put the movie in?”

“Well, considering you won’t let me get an early start on the popcorn, I guess I have nothing else to do.” You and Harry’s relationship consisted mostly of cheeky comments and sarcastic responses. Harry slid the circular movie disk into the slot and waited for it to begin working. Using the remote, he messed with the settings a bit and pressed play. The sun was setting, so Harry closed the curtains so make it as dark and possible. He crawled beside you in the fort, which was quite difficult due to his lanky arms and legs, and shuffled around to get comfortable. He obnoxiously opened a bag of chips, earning an amused look from you, and a quick ‘Sorry!’ made its way to you through the dark.

About ten minutes into the movie, your legs were draped across Harry’s and you were leaning back into a chair you had used to set things up. The light from the movie would illuminate your face every once and awhile, causing Harry’s heart to speed up a bit. He noticed you were eating those caramels you love so much, he could smell the chocolate from where he sat. His ring covered fingers appeared in front of you, shuffling into your bag of caramels.

“Harry Edward Styles! Get your hands out of my chocolate!” You shouted at your best friend.

“Just one!” He announced, feeling a sharp sting on his hand, most likely from you swatting it.

“You said you didn’t want any!”

“But, Rosebud, that was before I smelled them! Just one, I only want one!”

“Absolutely not Mr ‘I prefer gummy bears’,” You mocked in a deep British accent.

“Fine, fine. I have accepted defeat.”

Three hours later, you had finished watching both movies and were raiding your fridge looking for dinner. You turned to Harry with a depleted look on your face, “Yeah, um, I have no food, H.”

“How bout’ we call something in?” Harry suggested.

“Great Idea! I’m gonna go grab my phone, I’ll be right back!” Harry sat down in one of your kitchen chairs and let his eyes wonder around your apartment once more. He noticed your bag of caramels sitting about a foot away from him. Just sitting there, waiting to be eaten. Praying you wouldn’t notice later and cause a fuss, he slowly reached his hand in the bag, plucking one out. He popped it into his mouth a savored the combination of sweet and salty on his taste buds.

Harry felt a light tap on his shoulder, “I saw that Harold.”

Winter Anime Final Impressions

I was supposed to do this like two weeks ago but with Gundam ending so late and me getting swept up with many things, I didn’t have the time, but here’s a quick rundown of the best and worst of the Winter season. I’m gong from best to worst and also since I watched very few shows this season, I ‘m not gonna break them down in best/meh/worst

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen

A masterpiece to the very end, as heartbreaking as it was full of joy and love. There was this weird insinuation at the end that didn’t sit well with me at all and I’m not sure why they felt the need to do it, but I can overlook it because the rest of the picture is so wonderful and special and heart-wrenching. When Konatsu asked Yakumo to make her his apprentice, I actually cried. What a beautiful show. Don’t let the obscure antique Japanese art keep you from experiencing one of the best anime of this decade.

Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto-hen

I was a bit worried about this one because lately, when an “old” show gets a sequel many years after it last aired, said sequel turns out underwhelming and poorly done. See D.Grayman HALLOW (which also adapted my favorite arc from that manga) and Berserk (production values aside, the decline of this is due to Miura’s gross storytelling, so I guess it was inevitable). But I was more than surprised and ecstatic to see this rendition of the Kyoto arc did justice on the source material, with excellent production values, a good pace and wonderful emotional and action scenes alike. AoEx is one of the finest examples of the battle shonen genre and that translated wonderfully to this new iteration of the anime. I can only hope we’ll see Izumo’s and Shura’s arc eventually too.

ACCA-13-ku Kansatsuka

I was a Little on the fence on this one at the start, but once they laid down all the cards and tied all the loose threads, it became absolutely amazing. I’m sorry I ever doubted you Natsume Ono, your ability to craft smart and fascinating adult stories shall never be questioned again. Definitely worth checking out if you want to try something different to your usual anime genres. Helps that the visuals are really interesting and that Mauve is such a bae. I still feel Jean was the weakest link with his absolute nonchalance, but even that somehow worked at the end. Definitely worth going through the somewhat slow initial episodes.

Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation

NGL i’m not a fan of Kaburagi, he’s so much like Naruko I don’t feel he adds anything to the team. But this is now officially the Teshima show and that compensates for the snooze that is Kaburagi because Teshima has become so fabulous and cool I’m just excited every week to see what he’ll do next. Also the First-year race was a true highlight and I’m very disappointed Sugimoto didn’t make the cut, they did a fantastic job in making him likable, so it was sad to see him lose. Hopefully he’ll get to assist Imaizumi when they’re 3rd years.

This show’s a lot of fun, with really sweet animation and it also sports the Best Girl of the season, Sucy Manbavaaran, although I gotta say there were a bit too many fillerish episodes and it was frustrating to see them take so long to get the plot going. I’m not hating on the show, it is in fact extremely entertaining, but it’s a little lacking on the plot department. Hopefully we’ll get more of that on the second cour.

Classicaloid

I’ve never been happier of not quitting a show as I am about Classicaloid. By episode 3 I was on the verge of giving up because it wasn’t what I had expected, but I kept going and I ended falling so hard in love with this show I’m ecstatic it’s getting a second season. Once I embraced the absurdity, it became the best comedy of the season, and I honestly would watch Schubert’s fishy misadventures for 52 weeks a year. It’s an acquired taste for sure and not easy to recommend, but if you’re willing to let go of all reason, you’re sure to have a good time.

All Out!!

I have a lot of love for this show and its characters (and Sekizan’s ridiculous hair), but I’m afraid the pacing they chose basically doomed them because with the abysmal sales, it seems unlikely we’ll ever see a second season and therefore we’ll never get to see if Jinko does get to Hanazono. It’s a perfectly competent sports series, that does a really good job of developing its huge cast, definitely much better than the likes of Prince of Stride or DAYS, but its inconclusive ending is quite frustrating. I really do hope we get to see more of these boys, but Madhouse’s never been all that good with the whole getting-sequels-done so…

In spite of its low ranking, this is actually a really good show and a unique take on teenage female sexuality that you wouldn’t normally see in this mostly sexist medium. Hanabi made for a truly interesting protagonist and I liked seeing her explore herself and her relationships. I was however quite disappointed by how little focus we actually had for Hanabi and Mugi’s relationship. I felt there was more telling than showing in that regard, especially in the latter half of the show. The ending was pretty good and mature in spite of everything, and as always, I’m just really fond of all the vaginal imagery in the ED animation. Could’ve done without Moca though.

Gundam: Tekketsu Orphans

At the end of the Fall season, I expressed my concern about pointless, meaningless deaths. Clearly the Gundam writers thought I wasn’t concerned enough because the amount of characters that died pointless deaths went on to, I think, the double digits. I wouldn’t have minded the carnage if there had been some sort of payoff to the sacrifices. For example, if Shino hadn’t stupidly and conveniently missed his one shot because the show couldn’t afford to kill Rustal yet. I always felt Orga, Mika and Akihiro had a ton of death flags looming over their heads, but I certainly didn’t expect all three of them to get to the chopping block. Orga’s death was particularly random and pointless, but then again, what they did with Orga in general was very confusing. That he agreed to McGillis’s sketchy propositions to become “king of Mars” never made a whole lot of sense to me and that’s the result we got. I’ll also never get over how creepy and weird the whole Atra giving Mika a baby thing was. In short, I have very mixed feelings about it.

I could write thousands of words for everything that was wrong with this series but I think it wouldn’t make justice to the absolute experience that is watching this amazing trainwreck. Go watch it to see a masterclass of how not to anime. Honestly I had such a good time hating this show, it was so horrible in every possible way. Good job GoHands, even animate, who sponsored this show, won’t give it any publicity.

Super Lovers

I’m not sure of how this production team managed to put out 20 episodes of nothing actually happen. Like you just have to give kudos to the writers for managing to simply not do anything over the course of 6~ hours of content. No drama, no decent comedy, no character development, not even relationship development in a BL romance. It’s kind of amazing how pointless the whole thing is. The dog’s still cute and the relationship is still creepy and gross and that’s about all there is to say about this.

Although most of the shows I watched turned out great, it did feel like a weaker season because there wasn’t that much that was interesting (my Wednesdays were literally empty). Or maybe everything looks lackluster in this post-Yuri on Ice world D: But there was Rakugo and rakugo is good and I’m glad we live in an age in which such a niche, quiet and adult artistic show could be made and tell a complete story.

Grabbing yet another tissue from your purse, you blew your nose and apologized once again to your cab driver and assured him you hadn’t touched anything. He made a disgusted face, but said nothing. These days, you normally took the train into the city, but to minimize the exposure of germs to strangers, you had taken a cab to and from work today. You had taken the past few days off due to illness, but there were a few things you just had to handle yourself.

After accomplishing the bare minimum and grabbing a few files you could work on at home, you called it a day. Your head was pounding again and the faucet that had become your nose refused to stop dripping. Approaching the house, you used a card to swipe and pay, along with a generous tip, to avoid handing contaminated cash to the poor driver. Using your sleeve, you opened the car door and headed up the steps.

BTS POKEMON!AU

my friend told me the E version photoshoot makes them look like pokemon gym leaders and now i can’t get it out of my head so i wrote a bulletpoint list as to what type of leader i think each person would be!!!

THE HYUNG LINE GYM LEADERS:

NAMJOON - electric type specialist

  • namjoon is the first gym leader you have to face when you set out on your journey. you’re hesitant at first when you were starting out because your parents were well-known trainers back in the day, so you were scared that you wouldn’t match up to their reputations. however, meeting namjoon was a breath of fresh air because he held no expectations of you whatsoever. coming from an elite family of pokemon trainers himself, he was able to relate to your self-doubt and encouraged you instead to go on your own path to self-discovery
  • (that “encouragement” just so happened to be an hour long sermon, so you weren’t really sure exactly what he said after the 20 minute mark, but you assumed it was something along those lines)
  • you come back the next day hoping to battle him immediately, but like all gyms, his was designed as a puzzle.
  • “All trainers think that all it takes is power and experience to become the greatest out there. What they tend to forget is that intelligence and strategy are just as important!”
  • H O L Y SHIT was this dude a fucking sadist or something because his gym was a fucking MAZE
  • you were essentially stuck in the dark, maneuvering your way blindly while stumbling across trainers to boot. the place was filled with doors and hallways, each room only accessible after solving a riddle or trivia about pokemon
  • after much stumbling and a lot of bullshitting your way through the answers, you eventually find your way to namjoon
  • “Ah, so you made it! You were definitely much faster than (rival’s name). I’m excited to see how well you do!”
  • despite being generally nice and supportive, he definitely did not go easy on you during your battle
  • “What? Do you expect me to be the easiest gym leader just because I’m your first official battle? Not a chance, darling!”
  • suffice to say, you almost got smote out of the sky by his powerful raichu, whom you thought you could have easily defeated with your ground type pokemon
  • electric types have very little weaknesses (read: only two) so Namjoon is pretty much an expert when it comes to dealing with those weaknesses.
  • you got a ground type? bitch, he has pikachu that knows how to use SURF
  • “Holy shit? I thought surfing pikachu was a myth!”
  • “The only thing mythical about my pikachu is that it’s about to pound you to dust!”
  • In the end, however, you were able to defeat him (although, you might have had to rechallenge him a few times. But you got there eventually)
  • “Wow. It feels just like yesterday that we just met. I’m sure that I will be hearing more great things about you in the future. I’m already excited to see how much you will grow! ‘til our next battle!”
  • ((he ends up climbing the ranks and joins the elite four. so that next battle comes sooner than you could have imagined!))

The Scars Make the Man (IzuOcha One-Shot)

Summary: It is hard for Deku to wrap his mind around the fact that he is dating Ochako Uraraka, the best girl he has ever met. For an awkward guy like him, navigating romance was a monumental challenge. One that would lead him to try to hide the ugliest part of himself — his scars.

Some days Izuku wondered whether falling in love would be the death of him.

The idea of even being in love was something he hardly ever fathomed as a child, isolated and unpopular as he was. Nobody was interested in associating with a quirkless loser like him, even as a friend, let alone a crush. He hardly even interacted with girls; they tended not to acknowledge him and he was far too shy to try to change that. His childhood had left him with zero experience when it came to romance, and for a long time, he was fine with that.

But now he cursed his social ineptitude and fortunes with all his might for leaving him wholly unprepared for the lovely, horrifying world of dating.

Alice to Zouroku

So get this, a pretty girl with psychic superweapon powers escapes from a lab she’s been in her whole life and now has to adapt to the real world with the help of a guy she stumbles upon, all while being chased by her superweapon former friends. But in a shocking twist, this is actually better than Elfen Lied! Not being written by someone as brutally incompetent as Lynn Okamoto is a start, but the real change here is that our heroine is less murder machine and more genuinely cute, and more importantly the guy she ends up with is not a harem ringleader dorklord, but a grumpy elderly florist. Yeah, we’re skipping the recent trend of dadfeel anime and diving headfirst into granddad feels (I don’t know if aging otaku are quite old enough to fully self-insert yet, but the same principle applies). It’s a low hanging fruit, but that’s what makes it work; a deliberate, contemplative pace and delightfully whimsical music by TO-MAS also help. So far, so good, were it not for the fact that this is only one aspect of the show. Of course a show like this would have an action half as well, and that one’s pretty garbage. Not only is it directed with zero impact or excitement, it also relies on horrible CG a lot - I really don’t want to be reminded of Hand Shakers this quickly again, thank you very much. Plus, it runs with a Alice in Wonderland metaphor, which is baby’s first literary reference and doesn’t bode well about the intellectual ambitions of the project. So we have one half that’s admittedly effective, but also very predictable and which desperately needs to go somewhere to pay off. The other half just plain sucks and has little chance to improve. I think I’ll give this one a few more chances to sort out its priorities, but it’s definitely not a sure thing.

Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism

A cocky guy walks into a school full of pretty girls with weapons who have managed to sissify all the dudes by forcing them to crossdress. He then proceeds to troll them with his rugged charm. You know, it’s really not that easy to offend me but damn this show is trying. Apart from bottom-tier harem crap setup, this show also looks like ass and is tremendously boring; a few well done action cuts do not in fact excuse “fights” that mostly consist of exposition about special attacks, or terminally uninspired direction. Macchiavellism is the worst of shounen fightmens crossed with the worst of harem LNs, plus some of the worst jokes bad anime comedy can come up with. It’s not even audacious enough in its badness to boggle the mind; I could watch this if I was interested in adding another 1/10 to my MAL, but that’s about all I can appreciate about it.

Frame Arms Girl

Speaking of unholy combinations, here’s Gundam Build Fighters x Rozen Maiden x Strike Witches: A girl stumbles into a sentient mecha musume model kit that spends its time explaining the technical details of model building to her and attracts other model kits that want to fight. It’s an ad for model kits, what do you expect. There’s no characters, the plot is utterly uninteresting, the action’s bad, it looks subpar to bad, and the only high point is how brazenly it reads to you from the manual.

Gin no Guardian

Here’s your latest Chinese webcomic adaptation from your friends at Haoliners Animation League (Shanghai) Inc., whose output has been asymptotically approaching the quality level of a bad Japanese cartoon for years now: Closer than ever, but still not quite there. Maybe they should stop picking bad webcomics with incomprehensible nonsense plots as source material, just sayin’. So this is about a dude who beats up CG zombies in the spirit world but the actual story is how he got there? Or something? It manages to look barely alright and even has some visually striking design work, but its half-length run time prevents it from forming any semblance of coherence and I’m not about to ask for further clarification.

Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine

In a vaguely 18th century Germanic kingdom, a grown ass man with the body of a ten year old and a snarky disposition is hired to become the tutor of an instaharem of fabulous princes. I really don’t get who this is for; obviously the harem is straight out of a PSP otome dating sim, but it’s lacking the obvious self-insert dimwitted main girl, and no, it isn’t gay romance either. Even though it’s a comedy, that aspect does not seem to be played for outright parody. The source material is running in GFantasy, a shounen title (but not one as specifically elementary schooler-focused as Jump, it also carries fujo favorites such as Black Butler). Dubious provenance aside, Haine is moderately funny if nothing else, mainly due to the deadpan reactions of the main character to these ridiculous dreamboats. It just also drags more than a little, with long conversations that aren’t very entertaining all the time. It’s watchable compared to a lot of the stuff out this season, but I remain unconvinced.

Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

After Macchiavellism already obliterated the battle harem bingo, here’s our next winner. The setup’s more or less the same and in some respects it’s even more formulaic (the school is actually a magic school for magic people, princesses, duels, &c), but Akashic Record is not quite as odious simply by focusing on being a comedy first and foremost and pulling that off at least on a technical level - it has good visual execution and comedic timing. The question is just how much credit you want to give it for that when the jokes themselves still suck, and that’s of course ignoring the entire setup being Light Novel as all fuck. Kinda seems familiar actually, because this is not entirely unlike to what KonoSuba did to the isekai genre, and people keep trying to tell me that that was totally great. Well, go watch this one then, motherfuckers.

Sagrada Reset

But there’s always the other kind of light novel, the one where high schoolers talk about life, people and the world. Think Bakemonogatari or OreGairu. Sagrada Reset wants a slice of that pie and starts by stealing the magical realism conceit from classic™ visual novel Wind ~A Breath of Heart~: There’s a remote town in Japan where everyone has superpowers, but if they leave the town they instantly forget about it. Oops, i guess I just spoiled Wind’s midgame, but I have to since Sagrada Reset puts this stuff right upfront because it has to discuss technicalities (at length) to make its plot work. Yeah, that’s how I like my magical realism, thoroughly explained and conceived by people who should write wikis, not fiction. There’s a girl who can reset time, but only once per arbitrary period of time and also including herself, which means she only finds out she already did it once it doesn’t work again. So that’s pretty useless, except there’s a guy whose superpower is having his memory unaffected by this. They have to work together to solve… some problems, I suppose. This whole idea seems to have potential in a JoJo subplot sort of way, but it’s completely sunk by the way the thing is written, since apparently the writer has never met a human being in his life. It’s entirely made of these pseudo-deep highschool stoner philosophy conversations presented in a lifeless inflection by people who stand around like robots on battery saver mode. This seems to be intentional (at least the term “robot” is thrown around a couple of times, which is certainly ominous), but it also makes for an excruciating and interminable watching experience.

Sakura Quest

Since Sakura Quest was announced, I have been gleefully throwing water on the hype of people who expected this to be the next Shirobako. After all, how likely is it for lightning to strike twice, especially considering Mizushima is not in the director’s seat? Surely it was all just wishful thinking, I want a S2 of Shirobako as much as everyone but I just don’t trust anime. Well consider me fucking told, since apparently among the parties wishing for more Shirobako is P.A. Works, and unlike the anitwitterati they can make it happen. The actual brand name seems to be reserved for a Mizushima project, but I would have no trouble believing that Sakura Quest is a spinoff about Aoi’s sister in the boonies; Shirobako Sunshine, if you will. The initial setup is mirrored here; Yoshino is not a young professional starting her dream job, but a young professional unable to score a dream job (or any job) so she settles for a random one she’s very skeptical of, but will undoubtedly learn to love. Apart from that, well, it’s Shirobako: The positive tone, the large cast of likeable oddballs, the relatable writing about post-highschool problems, and it even looks completely identical. I’ll still be realistic about it: Shirobako isn’t great for what its ideas were, but for how thoroughly it delivered in the long run, and this is by no means guaranteed to also happen with Sakura Reset Quest. For an episode 1 though, it’s like a dream come true, and P.A. are setting themselves up for seasonal double domination with this and Uchouten Kazoku S2.

Souryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni

Enough gushing, here’s 5 minutes of porn. Okay, it’s josei porn so there may still be gushing involved if you know what I mean, nyuk nyuk. Er, sorry about that. Sooooo there’s a sexually frustrated woman who meets her school crush who’s now a priest, and then they fuck. With a staff made up mostly of (non-josei, but hey) hentai OVA veterans, there is really only one way this could go. I appreciate the brazenness as usual, but I really don’t know how much steamy harlequin romance tailored to TV broadcast standards I want to watch.

Tsugumomo

I’ve seen some warnings about Tsugumomo based on its source material which is a manga with 1. a very high level of art quality and 2. content that has been described as “makes To-Love Ru Darkness look family friendly”. This may explain why it has not been licensed. It doesn’t explain why this first episode is fairly tame though; sure, it’s very much an ecchi comedy, but you get those from time to time and Tsugumomo is not any more raunchy than what I’m used to seeing (and it accomplishes this even without obvious BD-advert censoring). That incidentally also removes any reason to watch it: The plot is as basic “guy gets magical girlfriend for purposes of fights and/or walking in on her naked in the bath” from 15 years ago as they come, and it’s suspiciously well animated, but not well enough for that to be a selling point. Maybe it will get real skeevy eventually, I won’t be around to find out.

Warau Salesman NEW

Warau Salesman starts strong with ultra cool, Saul Bass-inspired opening credits, but that’s about all it has to offer. It’s based on a “black comedy” manga from the 60s by one of the Doraemon authors, and oh boy can you tell. Not only are the character designs 60s-tastic (so at least the Osomatsu-san fujos can schlick to something while they wait for the S2 of that), but so are the sensibilities: The titular salesman goes around tempting frustrated office workers with doing something moderately irresponsible, such as drinking in your lunch break or spending above your means, and then ruins their life when they actually do it. It’s like Twilight Zone written by your HR department. In the 60s. This stuff would have been outdated even in 1989, when it was animated for the first time – hence the “NEW”. I don’t know, it just seems mean-spirited, obvious and pointless, and most importantly I put the “black comedy” in quotes because in addition to not being very black, it’s not funny in any way, and unlike regular anime comedy I can’t even see what’s supposed to be funny.

Previously On…

“Mom!” As soon as Y/N walked out of the community center, her son was sprinting towards her. Bucky watched form a distance, leaning against the car with his arms crossed and a grin on his lips.

Y/N was beaming as she wrapped Jimmy into her arms. “Oh, I missed you! One week is too long. Let’s never do that again.” She laughed as she kissed the top of her son’s head.

“Is Uncle Bucky staying for dinner?” He asked gently as she guided them to the car.

“I think that can be arranged.” Y/N smirked and gave Bucky a wink.
