I’m going to present to you a theory that’s probably already
been theorized, but with more evidence from s2: Earth is already being
controlled by the Galra through the Garrison.
We know that aliens already know about Earth’s culture from the
Space Mall episode. I mean, aliens quite literally abducted our cows… and had
an Area 51 hat. And had video games. In a mall owned by the Galra. Look, I
don’t know how alien economics works, but they have to have some type of fascination
with Earth to be able to have a shop for it and aliens would actually have to
know what all of those items were for said shop to be successful. Imagine an
alien Earth fan club. That’s what this is.
And that brings me to Keith’s flashbacks, once in a nightmare…
and once while he was trying to the awaken the Blade of Marmora, where he was in his shack in Earth.
In both, Keith
is placed in a situation where he’s around marching Galra. In some shape or
form, Keith witnessed a Galra invasion. I don’t think that that’s going to be
the last time we see that image at all. It’s obviously related to Keith’s past,
but the Voltron team decided to draw this scene into two different settings:
one purely related to the Galra and one set in Earth. Keith has probably already
witnessed an alien genocide and is probably about to witness one again.
I mean, think about it. If you were Haggar or Prince Lotor or
whoever, how would you keep Voltron from running if they’re all humans? How
would you set the perfect trap that would definitely lure Voltron in?
The next time we see Earth, it’s probably going to be under
invasion by the Galra. There are two possibilities: (1) the Garrison will be on
their side or (2) the Garrison will see this as an act of war. Under both
situations, I doubt that the Garrison doesn’t know about the Galra and other
alien races. And, honestly, I see more validity in option 1.
Listen, throughout season one, we knew that the Garrison was
hiding something. Pidge obviously knew that they knew something about her
family, but she didn’t have enough time to figure out what it was. And that
means that the Garrison had to have known that this wasn’t a normal mission. In
normal circumstances, we wouldn’t have known what had happened and would have
ruled it out as an unfortunate death. But they knew more than enough to rule
out the cause of death as a pilot error.
Zarkon literally said that there was no place
on the universe where he couldn’t reach. While he may have meant that in a
militaristic way, I think he meant it in a quite literal way.
We already know that leaders can be corrupt, look at King Lubos.
The creators of Voltron made sure to mention that just because you’re a leader,
doesn’t mean you’re on the good side or that you would do anything and
everything for the benefit of your people.
And for the Garrison to be able to make a presence or for the
Galra to even think about asking the Garrison, they must have some type of
political control. Considering that they are one of the best schools for
training space cadets, I don’t think that this is too far off. We’ve only seen
the school aspect from our younger paladins. We haven’t seen the military
aspect. Considering that we don’t know the actual politics of future Earth, we
don’t know how screwed the government is. But I’d literally bet 100 bucks
that it’s going to represent the mess we have right now if I had the money.
Hei~! I am going to talk a lot about something that might be very obvious, but it might be nice to point it out all the same. (Plus, I don’t know that much about Norwegian yet, so it might all be bullshit, but still… here goes)
At du er aleine
The sentence that stabbed my heart right before Isak’s worried face cut to a pitch-black screen. Why would she tell Isak he is alone? Why would she break her ties with him? Doesn’t seem to fit the guilt she’s feeling when she looks at his black eye?
Or, actually.. it does. It fits the pattern of the clip, which shows Sana cutting ties with everyone. And distancing herself from Isak might be a way for her to cope with the guilt. She feels betrayed and she feels guilty, so she is pushing everyone away. So who’s alone? Not Isak, who’s shown walking with his beautiful boyfriend, a beautiful dandelion stuck behind his ear, distracting onlookers from the black eye he’s sporting. It’s Sana, and that’s exactly what she’s telling him.
‘You’, as you probably will know, is a second person pronoun. It is a grammatical device we use to refer to the person we’re addressing. Sounds easy ;) (hehe). But there’s more to it. Because research on a corpus of spoken Dutch (similar to both English and Norwegian) shows that only half of the instances of ‘jij’/’je’ (you) are deictic, i.e. refer to the addressee. The other occurrences were uses of what is called a ‘generic you’ referring to a person or group of people in general, but as it may be contextually restricted, it can also be used for self-reference, thus meaning ‘I’. And, because of its characteristics as a second person pronoun prototypically used to refer to the addressee, its use for anything else still invites the addressee to identify themselves with what is being said. So like in:
You just get sad when you look at someone shutting everyone out (*cough* too soon?)
‘you’ actually means ‘I’, but probably more so than when I had just used ‘I’, you are invited to apply it to yourself, place yourself in the described situation; it might even distract from applying it to the speaker, even though it refers to them.
So, if you’re one of the people who thought Sana was actually talking about herself, that she wasn’t saying Isak (and anyone else, for that matter) is alone, but instead that she herself is, you’re probably not wrong. Linguistics has your back. Here’s to hoping Isak’s got Sana’s, because the blatant contrast with last season’s du er ikke alene, must mean he knows something’s up, and that it’s bad.
“Are your fantasies something you’d like to put into action? Or something you just think about?” Jimin quickly glanced at you, his eyes locking with yours for no more than a mere second, but even that second was enough for you to notice the lust in his eyes, which meant he could have noticed the same feeling in your gaze.
he has an older sister who ran off with a lover when they were young. She visits sometimes to give his kids too much sugar and encourage them to do wild shit like express themselves. Of course you can finger paint on the walls Genji.
He liked sweets he kept a stash in his office.
God damn he loved his wife
it was a kind of business marriage, probably arranged for him, but they were lucky and fell in love. She was super funny?? It surprised him she seemed so quiet and reserved in meetings between their families he was not expecting dick jokes on the first date
They worked wonderfully together, he was a practical businessman and she was ruthlessly clever and charismatic. A perfect team the family had never done better.
She died having Genji. His father never blamed him though.
God damn he loved his kids!
He was always busy but still a damn good dad. He never ignored his kids and tried not to tell them “not now” if he could help it. He took every opportunity he possibly could to go out and do fun kid stuff with them. He’d do Hanzo’s hair for him and help him with his homework. He’d let Genji paint his nails and scribble on papers he didn’t need, just please, not the walls again.(Hanzo’s responsible attitude developed quite early. Think like, 4 years old following Genji while he crawls around, just kinda herding him away from things he shouldn’t touch. Probably making a face and sighing like he’s too old and tired for this, even tho he is doing it completely by his own will. This was helpful for poor busy dad.)
He told his kids stories before bed almost every night. Even when it was just Hanzo. When they were a little older and he pulled that “once there were two dragons who were grounded because they stayed out past curfew” Genji told him he should have ditched the family and written children’s stories. He low key liked the idea.
There’s a picture of his wife on his nightstand and he talks to her sometimes. About things that are stressing him out, about how smart Hanzo is or how Genji looks exactly like her.
He tried not to put excessive pressure on Hanzo, but Hanzo would just make up for it by putting pressure on himself. This is a little bit frustrating, he doesn’t wanna say, “maybe you shouldn’t aim so high”, but he hates to see Hanzo so stressed out trying to reach the bars he set for himself. He appreciates that Genji seems to take care of and support his brother, tho.
He never pushed Genji to accept his role as heir to the family, but he did try to convince his son that there was a nobility in what they did. Even if they dealt in weapons and drugs and death, they provided jobs and second chances to unfortunate people, they were fair with their justice and they protected their city.
He was constantly at odds with his wife’s older and younger brothers, who joined the family’s council of elders when they married into the family. The pair of them were greedy and underhanded and blamed Genji for the death of their sister. They went behind his back and gave the poor kid shit all the time.
He always has been and would still be very proud of his kids.
“Keith is a barista who hates his job. Lance works at the cat shelter across the street.” [i cried. i don’t cry often when reading fics, but this one fucking got me. it’s fantastic, in both the concept and the (VERY well-written) execution. there are kitties. please read.]
“‘So like in ‘Step Up’?’ // Allura shrugs. ‘Now that you put it like that - yes. I guess it’s just like in ‘Step Up.’’ // The smile that she sends Shiro’s way - followed by a shy wave, eugh - is sickening to say the least, and Lance still doesn’t believe in dance camps.” [i started this one while it was still in progress because i’d heard so many good things about it and i’m so glad i did. 7 chapters, lots of dancing, and very good writing]
“‘This situation is a bit more complicated than we initially realized.’ // Lance raises an eyebrow, but Pidge is the one to question that. “Define complicated.” // Allura takes no more time beating around the bush, ‘Well, I received a transmission. Keith and Lance–from the future, that is–would like to have their daughter back.’” [keith and lance meet their daughter from the future– which is just as adorable as it sounds– but they’re not even dating?? shenanigans ensue. it’s so sweet and heart-warming. i love this so much]
“Keith just wanted a summer job to help pay for college. He didn’t expect to be coworkers with a complete asshole who hated his guts. He didn’t expect to fall for him, either.” [this fic is refreshing as fuck and full of all the pining you could ever want, with a side of beach-related fun and team voltron bonding over their summer jobs. it is so good.]
“Lance and Keith are rival cosplayers, who only know each other by their online usernames. They are fiercely competitive, but are also desperately attracted to each other. You’d think they would just get together already, but there’s a couple of problems: // 1. Keith crossplays, so Lance has absolutely no idea that Keith is a boy. // 2. Both of them are idiots, and can’t seem to figure out that that hot cosplayer they like, is also that hot guy that they drool over every day at school.” [3 chapters, hidden identities, nerdy references, and so. much. cosplay. what more could you ask for? plus it’s hella fucking cute, if you weren’t already sold.]
“Lance deals with the aftermath of being sucked into a black hole and stranded on an alien planet. // When Lance wakes up, all he can see is blue.” [this fic has a permanent tab open on my phone so that i never lose it. that’s how much this one means to me. this was written before season 2, so technically it’s an au where lance and keith are stranded on separate planets after the wormhole, and the only paladins they can contact are each other. it’s full of emotional bonding and poignancy and damn, the writing is so fucking good.]
“A new bakery pops up right across the street from Lance’s bakery. // In which Lance is an idiot, Keith is an asshole, and Pidge is the next Dr. Phil.” [have you ever wanted lance and keith to send each other passive-aggressive baked goods as their rivalry blooms into friendship? look no further. seriously, stop looking and read this fic. please. i’m in love with it.]
“‘ … tell me why Blue is making the moves on Keith.’ // Pidge stared at him, a touch incredulous. ‘You really haven’t figured it out?’ // ‘Pidge. I am very intelligent, but I am not a genius,’ Lance said patiently. ‘Spell it out for me.’ // ‘Well, you just sort of answered your own question,’ Pidge said, snorting. ‘Your Lion is making the moves on Keith — and by ‘moves’ I mean responding to your abject terror whenever Keith is in danger.’” [this author’s dialogue is so spot on, like i will automatically hear it in the character’s voice, and that doesn’t come to me easily. and just. lance. he deserves so much love, and this fic gives it to him.]
