i should be doing some productive

anonymous asked:

Hello! :) I really want to get into the same line of work that you do (illustrating & creating merchadise), but I don't know where to begin! I sketch my illustrations into my sketchbook, but where do I go from there? Please help!xo Thank you!

Here are some tips I’ve learned over time: If you want to be an illustrator you need to draw every day, even if you don’t feel like it you should just grab a paper and pen and do something, anything! You need to make it a habit and practice regularly. When you’re satisfied, maybe share your creations with the world. Making products is pretty easy, but for beginners I’d suggest making prints, postcards or sticker of your works. You’ll basically just have to scan your work, make them into a pdf(for example) and order them through local manufacturer/print house or use an online service. There are also sites that make and send your products to your customers for you. You can also start your own online shop through etsy, tictail or storenvy for example, there you’ll make the products and ship them yourself.

I just wanted to give some simple tips for this ask, but if someone wants me to go in detail for a specific things then please send me an ask and I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability.

Ehi Lovelies!
Hope all of you are doing good!
Today I feel really positive, I crocheted all day and I was productive for once!
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time tonight, so I can’t do some free readings to spread the feeling… (I might do it anyway… but I shouldn’t >w<) but soon I’ll open them up AND DO THE READING FOR @tarotprose THAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE WEEKS AGO!
I’M SORRY LOVE I DIDN’T FORGET, BUT I COULDN’T USE MY SIS’ PC FOR TOO LONG AND I WANT TO DO IT PROPERLY ç.ç THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE! …sorry for the caps lock… I’m just dumb and I scream when I’m agitated XD)

Anyway! What about a photo of my sleeping kitty to spread the positivity? :D

I wish you all the best and a wonderful day/night! <3

  • Ravenclaw: I'm feeling pretty productive. I think I'll get some work done today!
  • *12 hours later*
  • Ravenclaw: *spent the whole day playing video games*
  • Ravenclaw: Not again.

If you’re not a morning person, you know the struggle. It’s not just about waking up, it’s about actually getting yourself to do stuff in the morning. While I usually recommend you adapt to your body’s own schedule, as you’ll work much better, school, work or other activities may not allow you to do so. Therefore, here’s a guide on how to get shit done in the morning.

The night before

  • Prepare whatever study materials you’re going to use that day. Open your notes and make sure you know where you should start (i personally lay a pen on the exact paragraph).
  • Put a bottle of water and some tea (with caffeine) or coffee on your desk so that you don’t have to go get it next morning.
  • If you’re usually cold in the mornings, get yourself a blanket. I promise you mine has made me more productive than all the coffee I’ve ever had.
  • Write a to-do list for next day. Then distribute those tasks in a schedule (you can either use a printable or just scribble it on some piece of paper). Take into account you’ll need time for breakfast and personal hygiene.
  • Other than that, don’t leave anything else on your desk, as it may be distracting.
  • Make an effort to go to bed at least an hour earlier. It makes a huge difference when you wake up

Actually waking up

if you struggle to wake up, try the following:

  • Ask someone to wake you up (a parent, a roommate).
  • Put your phone accross the room and inside a glass to amplify the sound.
  • If your phone has an option for voice alarm, use it. Make it something really motivating or, even better, really annoying.
  • Combine all of the above for foolproof results.

Tips to get stuff done

  1. Chug your liquids! - The very first thing you should do after your feet touch the floor is drink some water and drink something caffeinated (yes, in that order) (caffeine because it will kick in by the time you’re done with breakfast and water because caffeine can be dehydrating + water will also jumpstart your body).
  2. Put on some fluffy socks - okay maybe this is just a personal thing but I’m personally much less likely to go back to bed once i have some socks on.
  3. Smol workout - do something that will send blood to your brain. It can literally be ten jumping jacks.
  4. Breakfast? Not yet - you’ve gotten up, you want food, understandable. BUT remember that book/notebook you put on your table last night? Well, get to work on it for 15-30 minutes. You may be sleepy and not able to comprehend much of what you’re doing, but the important thing is that once you come back from having breakfast, you will already have started, which is the most difficult part.
  5. Avoid anything with a shit-ton of sugar - it will give you a sugar crash in about an hour and all you’ll want to do is go back to bed. (Personal rec is overnight oats with some fruit on top - delicious, fast af and super filling and energizing).
  6. A big breakfast can make you sleepy. Instead, make it a little bit smaller and have some healthy snacks (like hummus) throughout the morning. Look at them as your reward for studying.
  7. Stay off the internet. During breakfast, I find that social media (especially youtube) tend to put me off working afterwards, as they give me something more insteresting to do. Therefore I reccommend you either find something else to do (write your to do list, read a book) or limit your Internet time to 5-10 minutes.
  8. Remember that you control your mindset. If after doing all of this you still don’t feel like studying, it’s perfectly okay to stare at your desk for five minutes and have an argument with yourself about how much you do want to study. Seems stupid but trust me, it works most of the time.

7 Questions to Ask When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

1. Which of these tasks should I prioritise? Do what’s most important first, and the pressure will subside.

2. Would I achieve more if I got some extra sleep? If you’re too tired to work then you’re usually less productive.

3. Are other people sucking the life out of me? Are there certain individuals who’re demanding too much time?

4. Is there anything at all that I can delegate? Do I have to do it all, or do the whole thing on my own?

5. Have I taken on too much on because “I don’t let people down”, or I’m afraid of saying “no”; or do I fear the negative reactions of others?

6. Is my space full of clutter, and that’s adding to my stress? Do I need to tidy up, or just get rid of some old stuff?

7. Can I withdraw, or take time off to recharge my batteries? Do I really need a break, and need the chance to be refreshed? Would I likely perform better if I made time for self care

DIY: mini knotted plant hanger

If you’re scrambling for a last-minute gift, or are haunted by endless blank walls and empty spaces, this quick craft is your solution.

Start simply with some rope and a plant of your choosing. I typically go for thinner rope, which makes for daintier hangings.

Cut 4 pieces of rope about 2.5 times what you envision your final product to be.

Fold the ropes in half to create a loop and tie a knot. This will serve as your hanger.

After the top knot is complete, begin your first row of knots by tying two adjacent strings together. Repeat this pattern until each rope is tied to the one next to it.

For your next row, tie knots a couple inches below the row above, using one string from each pair to make a new knot. Be sure that you continue to use adjacent ropes so that the knots continue a circular pattern.

You can pick any amount of knotted rings you’d like. The width that the knots are apart from one another depend on the width of your plant. For example, if your plant is smaller, you may want to make the rows of knots closer together to create a weaved look around your plant.

Finally, tie one knot at the bottom of the plant hanger using all of the strings, similar to how you made the top (just without the loop).

Your final product should be a variation of the plant hanger pictured below

You can utilize different textures and make them in multiples - they sure look good together.

I hope this little demonstration pumps some inspiration into your bloodstream. Happy crafting!

Comic dub of an Overwatch fancomic written by @dogtit, all comicked up by @badpearl, with instrumental version of Adele’s “Hello” provided by aatkaw, and featuring the voices of @totalspiffage as Widowmaker and Tracer (who also refined the lyrics and sang “Bonjour” in-character!), @hnilmik, Tiana Camacho and myself! Thass a whole lot of production people! This dub has quite possibly the largest number of people involved who weren’t just doing the voice acting!

On top of that: holy heck was this dub a doozy to do! This has some of the most complex visual transitions and layers of transitions Of any comic dub I’ve ever done. My brain hurt keeping track of how to implement some of the stuff I wanted to make work, but: work it did! I hope, anyway. Also, I don’t think I should ever do anything which requires mixing to the timing of a song ever again because that’s one heck of a powerful hell to walk backwards into.

If you enjoyed that, why not watch some of my other Overwatch comic dubs?

Why You Guys Need to Stop Boycotting The 100

Time for a rant:
First off let me say I’m a clexa shipper, so I went through the same thing you guys did when Lexa died. But what I’m about to rant about is more serious than any fictional ship.
Okay, for all of you people who’re not watching The 100 anymore because you’re upset, that’s fine! It’s completely okay to stop watching a show you no longer like. But to you shits who’re actively trying to get The 100 cancelled and boycotting it, stop. Seriously, you guys may think that you’re doing the right thing and trying to stop queer bating but you’re destroying tons of innocent people’s livelihood. You’re trying to cancel a show that’s queer bated, which it bad, but that was a decision that was made by a few. You’re taking away the jobs of tons of people for instance, Eliza Taylor, Lindsey Morgan, Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Devon Bostick, Henry Ian Custick, Richard Harmon, Paige Turco, Chris Larkin, Isaiah Washington, Zach McGowan, cinematographer, floor manager, graphics coordinator, stage manager, makeup artists, production manager, technical directors, stunt coordinators, video control operator, composer, colorist, editors, foley artist, costume designer, location manager, production and set designer, etc. Should I go on? And I know what you guys are saying, that they’ll be better off working on something that’s not the show, but not if the show gets cancelled! They’re way less likely to get hired (maybe even ever again) if the show gets cancelled, it looks bad for them. Name one successful actor from a failed tv show. Hmmm, don’t really know anyone do you? And then think about some minor workers on the set who might not even get a job ever again if The 100 gets cancelled. All because you guys had to have a fit and demand the show gets cancelled, stop being a baby and realize that people have jobs and aren’t as privileged to have everything handed to them, they work, and you’re taking away the work from them. It’s as simple as that. Yes, I get you’re upset about Lexa but please look at the bigger picture. So next time I hear someone trying to boycott The 100, you better be ready for me setting a fire in your ass.

All of the angry anti-radfem stuff that I see about periods has lately been bothering me. I’ve been in my bed today, with heating pads and ibuprofen, trying to distract myself from my uterus twisting around, and I’ve been giving it some thought.

A few days ago I saw someone say that older radfems “teach younger women to drink period blood”. I see complains about uterus artwork, about women who use period blood in their wiccan/witchcraft rituals, women being asked not to speak about their periods as women, and of course women describing vulvas as a “nightmare of flesh”. We’re accusing of reducing ourselves to genitalia, of being obsessed with our periods, told that nobody is oppressed because of their menstrual cycle (sometimes, of course, they add “in America”, as if female oppression is something else we’ve outsourced).

My mom told me that, when she was a kid, she didn’t wrap up a tampon enough when she threw it in the trash. Her dad called her in and hit her because “her brothers could have seen”. She tells me that one of the first times she fell in love with my dad was when she found out he kept tampons in his bathroom “just in case”.

I remember being told that I couldn’t use the bathroom once in middle school, as I had already gone that class. My friend gave me a sweatshirt to tie around my waist after I bled through my pants.

I remember in gym class, when we went out to run, trying to explain to my male teacher that I couldn’t run because I was on my period. He told me that I didn’t have a sick note and that telling him was inappropriate. I threw up on the track.

When I talk to doctors about my irregular periods, they tell me I must use hormonal birth control. We don’t have any medications that weren’t made to make women sexually available. The “period” you get on birth control is withdrawal from hormones. Nobody tells me for years that hormonal birth control doesn’t mix with mood disorders. Five doctors put me on this routine. Each time I go crazy. When I refuse with the last doctor, tell her I can’t do it again, she tells me to “grow up”.

My period hurts, hurts more than it should, with PCOS. My grandmother had it, had surgery after surgery like many women in her family, to remove ovaries bit by bit. They wouldn’t take them all out at first because, the doctors said, they might want to give birth. My grandmother calls it “her cancer”, because that’s how the doctor described it to her.

I know a woman who passed out in class. The teacher called an ambulance, and when they got there and she woke up she was mortified. She had endometriosis and she was angry that others had seen her in pain. I read later that cramps can be more painful than a heart attack.

I ask if I can postpone a meeting at a job until the next day. My co-worker asks if I am PMSing because I’ve been so grumpy all day. I go to the restroom and vomit, because the nausea from my period is so awful. I miss days sometimes because I can’t make it out of bed.

So when I see positivity about periods, when I see people trying to make art about this thing we have in common, when I see women talking about ways to make their period more comfortable, when I see the stitched pads they make, when I see people who can view the period as somehow divine, I truly do appreciate it. It isn’t gross, or awful. What’s gross and awful is telling us to be silent, not letting us learn, not making accommodations, the idea that this is a thing that we have to actively hide.

I don’t think those things are “glorifying” periods, but so what if they are? I think that taking something that hurts and making it into something positive and beautiful is incredible. I think that accepting ourselves as we are and finding ways to love that are some of the best things we can do in life.

So, as I lay here, in a lot of pain, I just want to say thanks for all the talk about menstruation. I love your uterus art. I love the things that I’ve learned from women about menstruation–why we have periods and how that relates to our bodies avoiding pregnancy, what normal periods should look like, signs and symptoms of gynecological disorders, and how to use menstrual products that are less toxic to our bodies.

Our periods shouldn’t have a stigma, and we should remember that we aren’t alone. Cheers, and I hope all of you have a great day today :)

legend-of-sidon  asked:

how do you get your lines so smooth? im fairly new to drawing on a tablet but my lines are always shitty and messy so i was wondering if you could give some tips? i love your art btw

First of all, thank you! :D And second of all, I currently do all of my line art in Clip Studio Paint, but my tips should work for any art program in general.

1.) When you’re a newbie to line art, get your sketch as clean and close to the final product as possible. It’ll help make the line art process easier since you don’t have to finagle around with proportions and such during the line art phase.

I, personally, am fucking lazy, so my sketches are fucking shit. When you’re more used to line arting you can kinda just half-ass sketch and fix up the line art to look good as you go. But that’s up to your own personal preference.

2.) I do my line art in very quick strokes that cover as much mileage as possible. To get the best lines, you want to use the least amount of strokes possible, like golf or something.

I also do this for general sketching too, so if you ever thought my sketches looked nice and clean it’s cause I’m basically doing speedrun line art with very little care in how well the line art actually looks.

3.) You can click undo and repeat the stroke as many times as you want. It’s one of the pluses of working with digital art.

4.) It’s also ok to just sketch it out and then clean it up a bit. I do this more for smaller areas and smaller details, like hair. I wouldn’t have to do this if I bothered to cleaned my sketch up more lol

5.) My line art has weight variation to it depending on a number of factors, but the major factor is light source. The lines closer to the light source are thin, while lines further away from the light source are thick. There’s no necessity to do this, I just think it gives the lines more oomph.

6.) You may have noticed that I’m doing the line art in a magenta color (or pink, I actually don’t know the exact color since I have flux on) and not in black (or dark grey, cause I never use black for line art). With black line art, you see the tiniest mistakes so easily and you can spend forever fixing tiny little things. Using a different color helps me get the line art done faster without wasting so much time fussing on things. I change it to dark grey or whatever color I want after I’m done. This tip doesn’t necessarily improve the quality of your line art, but it sure as hell speeds up the process.

And here it is all done!

I hope my tips help!

Tips for Keeping Productive in Summer

Let’s face it, for some of us the summer months are for nothing more than fruity drinks and lying on the beach. But for the rest of us, not much changes. Here are some tips for you to make the off-season more than just a time for tan lines.

~Keep a sleep schedule. It’s hard to keep going to bed at ten and getting up at six when you don’t have anywhere to be, so it’s a good thing you don’t have to! Even if your staying up until 4 and getting up at noon, keep it consistent. You’ll feel more energized by helping your body form a pattern (plus night swimming is more fun anyway).

~Keep using your bullet journal/planner. Even if your todo list consists only of getting your tan on and going out for yogurt with friends, keeping the habit will make it easier to transition back into school mode when fall rolls around.

~Stay on top of summer work. You don’t have to do the work as soon as you get it, but you should at least make a plan for how and when you’re going to get it done. If you do choose to finish it early in the summer it’s helpful to go back and look over it again, too. Make sure the content is fresh in your mind when your class starts.

~Have a summer project of some kind. Having a goal or project to complete just for you is a great way to fill your time. There’s nothing as satisfying as doing something just for you. There’s no one that should treat you more than you do. Treat yo self.

~Go outside. Despite what tumblr tells you, it is nice out there. Go on a hike with friends. Chill at the pool. Go to a farmer’s market. Take a road trip. The possibilities are endless! Just make sure to wear sunscreen and bring some water.

Most of summer productivity just comes right down to taking care of yourself. Summer is your time to chill; stay learning, but don’t work yourself too hard.

『 masterpost 1/15 for 1.5k appreciation! 』

my goal for this summer is to become much more focused on posting frequent original content–whether it be masterposts, photos or quotes. but as this seems to be a rather common goal among studyblrs, i thought it would be fun to share a list of 25 original content ideas for your studyblr (that you can steal!).

1. stationery masterpost (list of all of your favorite and most used stationery!)

2. “what to do with your studyblr during summer” post (name some things and content to post on your studyblr to stay active on tumblr over the summer)

3. tutorial (ex: how i take notes, how i design printables, how i stay productive etc.)

4. self-care masterpost (list some ways that you use to calm down, relax and take care of yourself when you’re stressed or feeling down)

5. study playlist (name some of your favorite study tunes *cough* kpop *cough* and perhaps even link to a spotify playlist with the songs added to it!)

6. “how to start a studyblr” (share some of your best tips for newbie studyblrs!)

7. story (share a story that might be motivating, inspiring or helpful for others to hear–it can be anything from how you moved on from a bad grade, a time when you worked hard for something you wanted, or anything else that could be inspiring!)

8. challenge (start up your own challenge! it can be anything pertaining to studyblr! ex: the 30 days of bujo challenge, the summer productivity challenge etc.)

9. studyspo pics (this one is pretty obvious, but it never hurts to post pics of your notes, stationery and whatnot over the summer, even if you’re not actually taking any intensive, rigorous courses over the summer)

10. book recs (since people tend to do a lot of reading over the summer, give your fellow studyblrs a list of your favorite books that you think they should try out!)

11. movie/TV show recs (same with the book recs, but with movies or TV shows instead)

12. quotes (whether you make up some quotes yourself, or take some from the internet, posting inspiration like this on tumblr can be extremely motivating to people who might see it!)

13. “studyblr on a budget” (there seems to be a myth that in order to be a successful studyblr, you need to have fancy, expensive stationery. and that is 100% not true! share some of your tips for budget studyblrs!)

14. “what i wish i had known about/before _____” (ex: what i wish i knew before my first year of uni, what i wish i knew about pre-calc, what i wish i knew before my first job interview etc.)

15. how to prepare for b2s (what are some of your tips for preparing to go back to school? any specific things/steps people should do/follow before heading back?)

16. “how to self-teach _____” (ex: how to teach yourself french, the best resources for learning chinese on your own etc.)

17. “how to be more productive” (share what methods you use to stay more productive! ex: how i use the pomodoro technique to be more productive, how to be more productive when you’re tired etc.)

18. sleep masterpost (it seems like as students, we’re all doomed to be eternally tired! share some tips for getting enough sleep, sleeping well, waking up quickly, and staying awake throughout the day!)

19. apps masterpost (what apps do you regularly use as a student? google drive? evernote? goodnotes? photomath? list all of them in a masterpost!)

20. printables (try your hand at making some printables! to-do lists, monthly/weekly calendars, and test-prep sheets are all great printables to make!)

21. icons (people love free icons! i have a tutorial on how to make your own flat icons right over here.

22. “how to fight boredom over the summer” (share a list of some ways to stay un-bored over the summer!)

23. blog awards (offer a blog awards on your studyblr, and award some of your fave studyblrs!)

24. blog reviews (have people send you asks, and then review their studyblrs and give them kind and honest feedback!)

25. giveaway (if you have the funds and the resources to hold a giveaway, it might be a fun way to connect with more people in the studyblr community! if you can’t afford stationery or something, then try offering a digital prize–like a free icon or logo pack or something!)

welp, that was it! i hope you found this helpful!

xoxo, ainsley

Hello! I know that there are a lot of people wondering how to live like a study blogger, so here are some tips to being your best, most productive you!

waking up

You should start your day no later than 6am, if you choose to sleep at all. It is essential that you get a head start on your day, and prepare a healthy and filling breakfast. Two blueberries and a cup of green tea are my favorite.

getting to work

For me, the first step to studying is to paint a watercolor schedule for your day – this way you can quickly know what you should be doing without having to read a pesky to-do list. Then, set a time for five hours and do not take a break until it is done. Don’t forget to eat lunch, though! A whole avocado eaten like an apple is perfect to eat while you work.

real life

Okay, so if you haven’t figured it out yet, please don’t do any of those things. They seem ridiculous, but sometime’s that’s how study tips feel. They feel like impossible standards that everyone else can live up to but you, and they leave out room for sleep or eating leftover pizza for breakfast or doing things that are essential to your well being outside of school. So here are a few real-life tips for life as a student:

  • Get sleep, as much as you can.
  • Be healthy when you can, but if you want pizza, get pizza.
  • Give yourself plenty of breaks when studying – don’t get burnt out!
  • Make sure you do something fun at least once a day
  • And something social at least once a week
  • Meals should be study free zones
  • As should late nights – binge on tv! take a bubble bath!
  • And don’t forget your family, either
  • Make time for you and the things you enjoy
  • It’s fine to push yourself, but not to the point that you’re miserable.
  • Remember that there is so much more to life than school. Work hard to achieve your goals, but becoming a well-rounded person is just as important as your grades.

Go forth and have fun, my little babe salads. You deserve it.

how to survive final exams

an informational masterpost by @briellestudies

study tips

- you remember material better if you physically interact with it as opposed to just scanning it over with your eyes

  • instead of merely reading a page of notes, go through it with a pen/highlighter in your hand. underline/circle/annotate things as you review the material

- make a study schedule. include which days you want to study for each subject, deadlines (e.g. “finish essay by tuesday”, “study guide for physics should be done today”), any study sessions you might have with others, and time for sleep

  • finals season often overwhelms students because of the sheer amount of work facing them. by breaking things down into a schedule and focusing on smaller portions of work day-by-day, things appear much more manageable

- use mnemonic devices to help you remember things (when applicable)

  • i like to use them for memorizing groups/orders of things - for example, when i took a class on dinosaurs, i had a lot of trouble keeping the paleozoic/mesozoic/cenozoic and triassic/jurassic/cretaceous orders straight until i realized that both were in reverse-alphabetical order

- different study methods work better for different classes

  • flashcards are best for classes where you have to memorize lots of information (without providing further explanation), e.g. introductory psychology
  • mind maps are good for organizing thoughts and seeing how ideas fit together, e.g. english and literature classes
  • practice problems/practice tests are usually the best way to prepare for STEM classes, e.g. math and chemistry

optimizing your performance/productivity

- try to get some sleep. try.

  • you probably won’t be getting your full 7-8 hours during finals season. fine. completely understandable. but a couple hours here and there throughout the day will do wonders. your brain doesn’t work at optimum levels when you’re sleep-deprived, so while you may not have time for solid 8-hour blocks of sleep, it’s in your best interests to get 1-2 hour powers naps in when you can. aim for at least 4-6 hours of total sleep time per day

- finals week is not the time for junk food. if you’re going to push your body to its physical and mental limit (as so many of us do), you’d better make damn sure you’re at least giving it the best possible fuel to run on

- you should be aware of your study habits by finals season. take them into account and use them to your advantage

  • more productive in the morning? set an early alarm and get yo ass up
  • procrastinate a lot? bitch me too!! it’s not necessarily a bad thing - some people do their best work under time pressure. try this thing i like to call “productive procrastination”: if you wanna procrastinate on something, do so by working on another assignment/studying for another class. this way, you fulfill your desire to procrastinate but you’re still being productive and not completely fucking yourself over
  • more productive when working with others? try to organize study sessions (or you’re the opposite like me and prefer to study alone, don’t feel guilty about declining requests to work with friends/classmates)

- there’s an app called “self control” that blacklists or whitelists websites for a given amount of time (that you set yourself). it forces you to stay focused if you can’t help but peek on social media sites every so often when working on your laptop

- prioritize! know which finals will require the most effort on your part and plan accordingly

  • give more priority to finals that are worth a higher percentage of your overall grade
  • calculate the minimum score you need on the final that’ll still get you the overall grade you’re aiming for - generally, you should be spending more study time on finals that you’ll need a higher grade on

test taking tips

- if you finish with extra time, go through your test again and attempt to answer every question you left blank (unless you’re penalized for guessing, of course). the potential for partial credit is better than definitely receiving no credit

  • for multiple choice, use process of elimination and then make your best guess
  • if you don’t know the answer to a short answer/essay-style question, then answer around it. for example, if you don’t know the significance of caliban’s soliloquy in shakespeare’s the tempest, talk about the character of caliban in general and/or the role soliloquies are meant to play in shakespeare’s works
  • if you’re stuck on a math problem and have no clue how to even begin, just start manipulating numbers and applying formulas

- dress in layers so you’re comfortable no matter the room temperature

- always answer the questions you’re sure of first

- don’t be afraid to ask the proctor if you’re unsure of what something on the test is asking of you (i.e. questions for clarification)

- pay attention to the questions on the exam - sometimes one question may hint at the answer to a different question

  • e.g. 2) what year was x fossil discovered? and 31) who discovered x fossil in the early 1930s?

miscellaneous advice

  • try to get everything you need (calculator batteries, scantrons, blue books, writing utensils, etc.) the weekend before exams start. this way, you’re not freaking out right before a test because you’re missing something
  • try to time your coffee/lack of sleep crashes such that they don’t happen during a final exam (see tip about scheduling above)
  • if you’re pulling an all-nighter, set alarms periodically throughout the night (e.g. every hour and a half) so that if you accidentally fall asleep, you won’t sleep through the whole night
  • also set an alarm 20-30 minutes before each final. just in case ;)
  • bring an extension cord to the library if your school always seems to be short on outlets during finals week
  • always use the bathroom right before sitting an exam (even if you don’t feel like you really need to) to avoid getting up and wasting time during the test itself

a note on adderall, a popular “study drug” students take during finals season:

i personally advise against the use of any study drugs that are not prescribed by a medical professional, but the fact of the matter is that students are going to use them regardless of what i say. when they don’t know what they’re getting into, they put themselves into very dangerous positions - often ending in trips to the emergency room or rehab. so in the interest of promoting safety (well, as much safety as is possible given the circumstances) and knowledge, here are a few things you should know about adderall if you decide you want to use it:

  • addy is very addictive and can make the user dependent on it
  • if you take it, you’ll start to sweat. a lot. dress accordingly
  • addy will make you lose your appetite. don’t listen to your body when it says it’s not hungry. you gotta force yourself to eat bruh
  • it’s also really easy to get dehydrated on addy - not only do you sweat a lot, but lots of people tend to pee a fuck ton while they’re on it. stay hydrated
  • addy is a stimulant. you won’t be able to sleep until its effects wear off
    • and just like other stimulants (e.g. caffeine, ecstasy), you will experience a “crash” afterwards. the crash is more pronounced than one you would get from coffee or even caffeine pills
  • there are two “kinds” of addy: IR and XR
    • IR means “immediate/instant release” - whatever dose you take will be released into your system all at once
    • XR means “extended release” - there will be an initial release of the drug into your system and then small amounts thereafter over an extended period of time
  • always err on the side of caution with dangerous drugs - when in doubt, start with a lower dose

as a parting note, i would just like to remind you all to keep in mind the importance of self-care and finding balance. there is a fine line between making temporary sacrifices and being self-destructive. sometimes it’s good to push yourself - “no pain, no gain” as they always say. but analogously, you also gotta recognize when it’s time to dial it back a bit - allow yourself a nap or an hour break to grab dinner with some friends every once in a while. trust me, you deserve it. good luck!

When Damen laces his hands together, the left thumb is on top. Laurent fixes this detail with a look that is, as it were, a warm-up for the look he’s about to direct at Damen’s face. Damen is perched on the edge of the plush, over-quilted, impeccably white satin bedspread, elbows resting on his spread knees. He is crushing some of the red rose petals. Laurent makes a mental note to send a production assistant in here with fresh ones before they film the individual segments after the cocktail party.

Someone knocks at the closed door and says, “Um, I think–”

No,” snarls Laurent, wasting the first and most icily searing few seconds of his expression on the door. Silence follows.

“All right, what is it?” Laurent demands of Damen. “Is it drugs? Do I need to send someone out for some cocaine? Do you have a fucking headache? Has a soft-hearted AD whom I will summarily fire snuck you your phone, and you’ve found out that your cat’s died?”

“No,” Damen says, apparently to all of the above. After a moment he adds, in a tone that Laurent can’t parse, “I don’t have a cat.”

“Then what the fuck is wrong with you? I’ve seen potato salad with more vivacity than you’re showing out there.”

“It’s all so–staged,” Damen says, with distaste.

Laurent manages not to roll his eyes, but the violence with which he wishes he were rolling his eyes causes dull pain to gather behind them like a stormcloud.

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED AS AN ENTREPRENEUR

I believe motivation is highly subjective and that each person has a unique motivational catalyst. So this post isn’t actually written to motivate you (LOL). What this post will do, however, is give you 3 distinct suggestions on how you can generally stay motivated by yourself. These are based on observations made in my brief time working with entrepreneurs. Of course, like with anything, this is not a closed list.

1. Have Passion For What You Do:

You’ve heard this plenty of times, I know, it’s annoying to me too. But we wouldn’t hear it so often if it wasn’t so important.

Steve Jobs, when addressing a crowd at his alma mater, famously said “You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.

Do what you love, and not in an airy fairy, kumbaya kind of way. If you derive actual pleasure from what you do, you are likely to be more motivated than the average person. It follows that people who do what they love will approach their work with a guaranteed level of enthusiasm. I don’t think this needs a great deal of explanation.

2. Find A Suitable Co-Founder:

Some of the best companies in the world were started by co-founders (e.g. Apple, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, etc.). Often, a start-up is launched and maintained through a combination of expertise, which, for complex projects, is hardly ever held by a single person. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 people to start a project. So the importance of compatible co-founders cannot be stressed enough.

Like with every endeavour, there will be challenges that dampen the passion. The honeymoon period WILL end, and co-founders need to understand their effect on each other because this can serve as the necessary spark to push each other forward. During a slump in motivation, if you don’t feel more motivated after speaking with your co-founder, he or she may not be the right person for you to work with.

Some questions you should ask about your co-founder - When you are not feeling your best will they be able to take control? Do they create a mood which is conducive to productivity? How do you feel after talking to them about a hurdle you are facing? Do they actually have the capacity to perform the tasks that are needed to drive the project forward?

To achieve the best results, be brutally honest with yourself when answering these questions. Based on your answers, you may need to make some changes.

I left the first business I started at University because I could no longer work with my co-founder. The person whom I had originally chosen as my co-founder because of his technical knowledge of the (media) industry became the reason for my loss of enthusiasm. I am not sure what the root cause was, but my co-founder started developing a habit of killing the business relationships I had worked hard to build (and other bad habits, which are best left unmentioned). In turn, our reputation as a serious business began to take a knock. But this wasn’t yet the issue. The real issue was his inability to realise his problem, and then act in accordance with such realisation.

Needless to say, I was brutally honest with myself - I just did not believe that he had the capacity to perform necessary tasks anymore, so I cut all professional ties with him.

3. Figure Out Your Motivational Currency

I define motivational currency as: a positive response which fuels the desire to be productive.

For example, I run a consulting business. Now, as much as I love what I do, there are mornings which feel completely hopeless (because - life) and my reason for continuing has escaped me. However, my mood suddenly changes when I get up from my bed, check my mail, and find an email from an entrepreneur requesting my services. After viewing this email, I feel a new energy, a sense of purpose, which prompts me to keep going. I am motivated, and the email is my motivational currency.

If you are an outdoor event organiser whose event receives good reviews on social media and in the local papers, such reviews are your motivational currency because they prompt you to repeat the amount of effort put into your work, in pursuit of the same or an even better response from your market.

This type of “currency” is different for different businesses, and is usually controlled by external factors. We cannot determine when motivational currency will be forthcoming, but the more work we put in, the more motivational currency we are likely to receive. (i.e. the more good work I do for my existing clients, the more likely I am to wake up to an email requesting my services.)

Conclusion:

Staying motivated is, in my opinion, the most important thing for any entrepreneur. You can do anything you set your mind to with the right amount of motivation. Conversely, you can do very little without it. This is why it is crucial for entrepreneurs to find what motivates them, and have ready access to it whenever it’s needed.

So print this. Put it on your wall, and highlight the points which speak to you the most. Every time you feel demotivated, give it a quick read, and remind yourself of the ways in which you can regain your motivation.

As always, thanks for reading. I promise to make it a shorter read next time.

What's net neutrality and what's up with your icon? Have you been hacked?

Net Neutrality: the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.

No I haven’t been hacked just participating in the movement protesting the possibility of the end of net neutrality. (If you turned off adblock or looked on mobile, Tumblr is also participating) If you don’t live in the USA or haven’t really seen the news, but around 3 years, the us government had a debate about internet providers and something the internet providers wanted to do. Internet Providers or IPs wanted to throttle certain websites, or give some websites worse connections to their customers. For example, Comcast could potentially make online video sites such as netflix, hulu or even youtube to become slow, or not even work, so that the customer will use the cable tv they probably bundled with the internet service. But right now they can’t do this, as the law prevents them currently. Watching the videos I’ve posted and the others that will be linked, you can learn more about this and why this issue is coming up again. But overall, net neutrality is good, I am protesting the threat to net neutrality.

RFA * V* Saeran overhearing their female s/o on the phone telling another boy she loves them but it's actually just one of the s/o's family members ?

hey it’s been like five years but I finally wrote it and I’m sorry I had no idea what to do for Baehee >.<

I love how they get progressively long as you go have fun reading

▧ Yoosung

·         You’re playing LOLOL together when suddenly you get a phone call, and pause the game while you answer

·         Yoosung’s doing some quick character customization while your conversation goes on, but he’s getting the feeling that you’re talking to another man

·         And someone close to your age, at that

·         He’s been working hard at controlling his jealousy, but it’s so difficult, especially now that you’re speaking such gentle words, your pretty eyes soft and twinkling

·         Who is it you’re talking to that would warrant such an expression? Such words that spoke of warmth and tender love?

·         Yeah so it was impossible for Yoosung to keep his switch off

·         Can you stab someone through the phone? How can I perform simple voodoo? became his newest google searches

·         “Take care of yourself, I’ll come see you soon, I love you!” you hang up with a wistful sigh.

·         “The old geezer went and fell down the stairs…again…honestly he needs to be more careful.”

·         “Old…geezer?” Yoosung asks tentatively, slowly putting his phone down

·         “Yeah, my grandfather went and broke up hip by tripping on a step. Luckily he didn’t fall a whole flight, but still, at his age….”

·         Yoosung discreetly closes his ‘Voodoo for Beginners’ tab and coughs lightly

·         “Right well, let’s continue our match, shall we? I’ll crush you! Ha-ha, I’m kidding?”

·         The battle begins once more, you having already forgotten about the phone call, but somewhere in Yoosung’s mind, he’s thinking about the web page he’d closed

·         Maybe it would be useful to look through

·         For future references…

▧ Zen

·         Y’all are rehearsing some lines

·         or taking selfies

·         or working out

·         or trying to summon Satan idk but your phone rings and you excuse yourself from your current activity  to answer it

·         lmao though imagine you actually summon Satan and he’s trying to take your soul or smthing but then you’re like ok hold up my dude I got a phone call the delivery guy might have gotten lost and Satan is just left standing there like ??? do I get food too or

·         anyways hi hello it’s your /actual/ father calling about the family reunion on Saturday

·         Zen’s sneaking glances your way because what’s with this sweet tone of yours

·         is i T A mE m Be R of Th eOpPOSi t E SE x????????

·         basically he’s trying to listen to the voice on the other end of the line but being sneaky about it

·         we all know that ‘subtlety’ is not part of Hyun Ryu’s vocabulary, let alone life skills

·         so he’s basally draped himself over you  like some sort of fallen tree trunk

·         im good at analogies alright

·         you’re trying to focus on the call but at the same time Zen what the flippity fuck are you doing you’re making me have to pee

·         he’s already suspicious but when you hang up with a cheery “love ya daddy!” Zen malfunctions and doesn’t know whether to cry or yell

·         “Who was that why do you love that person was it a guy wh-”

·         “Zen, chill that was my dad.”

·         :0

·         :000000

·         you can see him dying a bit inside because  oh no I got jealous over her F A THER??????

·         but then Zen is Suddenly Inspired

·         “Hey,” he whispers in a sultry voice, his lips pressed against your ear, “how about you call me daddy too?”

▧ Jumin

·         contrary to popular belief, Jumin is actually cool with you talking to other dudes

·         as long as it’s strictly professional, that is

·         he’s never heard you talk to your family before, so he isn’t aware just how close you all are

·         the both of you are attending a meeting, and during the coffee break you receive a call

·         ‘Jongin’ is the caller’s name, which Jumin manages to catch a glimpse of flashing across your phone’s screen before you deftly answer the call

·         “Yeah? Hello!” you say,  before excusing yourself from the room

·         Jumin is left wondering whether he should follow you or just ignore it

·         but there’s just something about the delicate shift in your tone that puts him ill at ease

·         because you should only be speaking to him that way

·         side note I reallllllly want to see some yandere Jumin but not like weird prison guard Jumin but actual Yoosung level yandere

·         alas, the meeting starts again, yet you don’t return to the room

·         he hears you giggle occasionally from the hallway, but tries not to focus on it too much because the meeting is about the future of C&R’s cat projects and therefore of uttermost importance

·         needless to say, his mind is quite preoccupied

·         one of the chairmen asks him “What do you believe would be the total production cost for this particular plan?”

·         Jumin answers with a distracted “Oh, no I rather do like red wine with my pasta.”

·         basically he’s really not himself what’s gotten into him he’s usually an unstoppable force in meetings but now???

-         the meeting is adjourned, and he rushes out the door

·         as soon as he spots you in he hallway, he’s marching straight towards you, reaching for your arm right when you say “Okay bye! I’ll see you tomorrow, love you!”

·         “What’s this about loving who now?” Jumin hisses, his hand closing lightly, but firmly, around your wrist

·         “It’s me telling a family member that I care about them?” you say, confused as to why he’s reacting in such a way

·         “You - what? family member?”

·         Yeah, that was my uncle. We usually go shopping together every few weeks, and we’re due to go again tomorrow.”

·         Jumin’s emotions quiet down in an instant, however his heart is still running rampant like a wild beast in his chest

·         he slides his fingers down to envelop your hand, and gently rests his forehead atop yours

·         “Please, my love, don’t scare my like that again, you are my one, my everything…”

·         you’re getting ready to whisper your own cheesy loving sentence, but he continues

·         “Also you should bring your uncle shopping in this building. We have over 200 different stores, and maybe he would be willing to lead our cat campaign-”

·         you poke his stomach

·         “You are not bringing my uncle into this cat thing…but if you want, you can tag along and come shopping with us.”

·         he agrees, which is a bad idea

·         cuz you and your uncle tag team him

·         and he ends up wearing some sort of cat/maid outfit that shows skin in just the right places

·         yeah but it’s a good buy

·         Jumin actually wears it around the penthouse

·         Driver Kim once saw him in it

·         “The young master has rather particular interests….”

·         lowkey approves and wants one himself

▧ Saeyoung

·         mmmmmmkay well honestly he’s heard you say “I love you” to several people already, but he doesn’t get jealous because you’re always showering him with your affection

·         but he’s had one of his bad days, old emotions and thoughts and insecurities are already chasing each other in his mind

·         so it isn’t helping him much when he can just tell you’re talking to another boy

·         terrible thoughts swarm his head, and he cannot stop fretting about all the bad things that could possibly be happening

·         What if he hadn’t been looking enough into things?  What if he’s being played? Are you going around behind his back? Betraying him?

·         but for every one of these thoughts, he  lashes out at himself, thinking things along the lines of don’t I trust her? Do I really think she’s that bad a person? She’s given me all this love, would she really just abandom me like that?

·         Or maybe now I’m reading too much into things?

·         “Alright, bye Kyungsoo, I love you!”

·         He winces, not wanting to face you, afraid that the bile in his throat will lead him to say harsh things

·         “What’s wrong, Saeyoung?”

·         “Who…” he croaks, a faint pain etched across his face, “Who were you talking to?”

·         “Oh that? It was my brother!”

·         “You…your…ah.”

·         “Is something the matter?”

·         “No, I’m just a huge idiot is all.”

·         “Now tell me something I don’t know,” you say with a sly smile, wrapping your arms around his waist, “you might be the world’s biggest idiot, but at the very least, you’re my idiot.”

·         Saeyoung instinctively returns the embrace, holding you tight against his chest. “Likewise.”

▧ V

·         oh my hea RT lmao what heart haha I just roasted myself

·         y’all are just chillin’, looking through his pictures when you get a phone call

·         V is fine with you talking on the phone right beside him, so you answer right there

·         Heck, you could even be riding the shit out of him and he’d still be chill with you calling your friend

·         MC orders pizza while getting laid lolololol

·         He gets momentarily nervous, though, when he hears a deeper voice on the other end of the line

·         But V, he tells himself, don’t discriminate maybe it’s a girl with a deeper voice you never know

·         “Who is that?” V mouths, just to be safe

·         Oh, he’s just –” you start to say before you get cut off by the person you’re talking to

·         a b OY?!

·         “Okay! I love you!” you say before hanging up

·         V’s all ༼ ºل͟º ༼ ºل͟º ༼ ºل͟º ༽ ºل͟º ༽ ºل͟º ༽

·         it takes him a moment to calm down, at which point he’s convinced himself that you’re moving on, which is fine, because he’s not good enough for you he wasn’t good enough for Rika you’ll be happier without him you–

·         “V you’re turning blue I don’t think you’re breathing.”

·         He inhales sharply and looks at you with tears in his eyes

·         it makes sense, he concludes, trying to hold back the waterworks

·         “You should have told me sooner,” he says softly

·         “Told you what?”

·         “That you’ve…found someone else.”

·         seriously V I thought jumped to conclusions too fast but you really take the cake

·         you just stare at him, then look at the phone in your hand, then back at V

·         whoops

·         “Sweetheart no that was my cousin!”

·         V just blanches

·         I am horrible how dare I get jealous so easily and I thought she was in love with another family member what am I –

·         “V if you stop breathing like that you’ll actually die.”

·         without a word, V reaches over to you and pulls you into his chest

·         there’s a strange elation sensation inside his body, and he realizes that he had unconsciously been so stressed, a knot of worry had formed in the pit of his stomach

·         his worry is replaced by a realization

·         the realization that

·         he’s not okay with you leaving him after all

▧ Saeran

·         He ain’t taking none of that shit

·         the moment he hears you say “Hi!” in such a sweet voice because MC you’re only supposed to talk like that with me h o w da re you, he practically launches himself at your phone and does a wicked somersault landing

·         Where did he go?

·         Surely not inside the kitchen cabinets

·         oh

·         but there he is

·         crouching between cereal boxes and jars of tomato sauce, just emanating dark waves of furious doom

·         They’re so tangible for a second you worry they might stain the walls

·         “She’s mine,” he hisses into the receiver, “and I’m not gonna let you lay a single hand on her.”

·         “Well…” the voice answers, “that’s fine and all but I’m her brother so we do occasionally hug sometimes.”

·         Saeran had already prepared a nasty comeback, but he wasn’t expecting the call to be from your family

·         “Ah uh, okay bye,” he grunts instead  in an awkward manner, before promptly hanging up

·         “Um…Saeran…I kinda really needed to talk to him though…”

·         He whips his gaze towards you

·         “The….” he chokes, his eyes wide

·         “Huh???”

·         “The what???? Hug?????” he finally whispers, seeming if not a bit panicked by the thought such a thing existing

·         you stare at each other blankly for a brief minute before you double up in laughter because

·         a) he looks like a startled, edgy cat b) he’s in your fucking kitchen cabinets and c) the what??? hug??? was something you never thought would come out of his mouth

·         but he gets so sour about you laughing at him that he refuses to leave his perch for the next two hours

·         #spends the whole time thinking about you hugging him

·         *cue the blushies*

·         wants to try this ‘hugging’ ordeal
