i ship tina and jimmy so much

Why does everyone ship Jimmy Jr and Tina when he is so awful to her? Zeke or the ballet guy treat her so much better

Ah, you must be new here. I’ve answered basically this same question many times before. But that’s okay, I can answer it again for you.

The first thing you need to acknowledge is that Jimmy Junior isn’t actually “so awful” to her. He’s had some jerky moments, sure, but if you think about it, there have been more times when he’s nice to Tina than otherwise. Let me break it down for you…

Jerky Jimmy Junior:

  • Two For Tina
  • Presto Tina-o (first half)
  • Tina and the Real Ghost
  • Secret Admiral-irer (?)

Nice Jimmy Junior:

  • Sheesh! Cab, Bob?
  • Bad Tina
  • My Fuzzy Valentine
  • The Unnatural
  • Presto Tina-o (second half, when he apologizes to her)
  • Gene It On
  • Can’t Buy Me Math
  • The Gene and Courtney Show
  • The Hormone-iums

You could maybe argue a few other episodes for either category, but I’m just going to leave it at this. As you can see, more positive than negative. And in a lot of the positive instances, Jimmy Junior really went out of his way for Tina. Example: he offered to sell his bike to take her on a date, he spent more money and time to get Tina a rose to surprise her with on Valentine’s Day, etc.

I think, when you consider that, there’s no way you can claim that Jimmy Junior has no feelings for her. His problem is that he just doesn’t know how to properly express these feelings. He’s just thirteen, and it’s not like his dad is a great role model for romance. Also imagine how hard it probably is for him to try to navigate between these feelings and wanting to please his dad, who hates the Belchers. Jimmy Junior just has some growing up to do, that’s all. So does Tina, for that matter. You might be under the impression that people don’t change, but I know I’m certainly a better person than I was when I was 13. I have faith in him.

But so far, this has all really just been in defense of Jimmy Junior. So let’s talk about why exactly one might ship T/JJ as opposed to Tina/Zeke or Tina/Josh.

For one thing, Josh is hardly relevant anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I get the appeal of him, and even I was glad Tina chose to go to the dance with him. But he only appeared in two episodes, it’s been over three seasons since we’ve last seen him, and he hasn’t even been mentioned since. I mean, for god’s sake, you couldn’t even remember his damn name. Josh gave Tina the option to reconnect with him if she changes her mind, and obviously she hasn’t. And Dan Mintz has made it clear that he believes Tina ultimately chose Jimmy Junior. Also, if you really think about it, how much did Tina and Josh have in common anyway? He was older than her, he went to a different school, honestly he just lifts right out of the show. Meanwhile, she and Jimmy Junior both grew up in restaurants, they go to the same school, they’re in the same circle of friends, they just make more sense.

As for Zeke, I can understand why people like him for Tina. When I first got into the show, I kind of shipped them too (this was before I got asked questions like yours and dug my heels in for T/JJ). It’s kind of cute, but I just don’t think it’s as good of a story as T/JJ. And also, I think it’s a bit unfair to Jimmy Junior. I mean, what? His best friend steals the girl he likes and he ends up all alone? How is that fair? I’m okay-ish with Tina/Zeke/JJ but once you get rid of Jimmy Junior, no thanks. (Also, I ship Zeke/Gene. The two of them have more in common.)

And some additional reasons to ship T/JJ:

  • It would bring the Belchers and Pestos together, which would lead to all kinds of great, hilarious family stories.
  • It would be satisfying to see Jimmy Junior come to realize the full extent of his feelings and grow into someone worthy of Tina.
  • There are a lot of parallels between Bob and Jimmy Junior (both Juniors, both seem to have grown up without a mom, both have passions that their fathers don’t understand…) and it would be nice for Jimmy Junior to become a part of their family and bond with Bob over this.
  • Tina and Jimmy Junior have the right fire and passion to support each other and grow together.
  • Tina deserves to be with the boy she likes the best.
  • They’re basically iconic to the show.

So, to sum up, so many people ship T/JJ because Jimmy Junior isn’t as bad as you’re determined to believe he is.

Why do you ship Tina with jj so much?? JJ doesn't seem to know what he's got and doesn't care for Tina enough

Because he doesn’t always act like that. You’re thinking of Jimmy Junior in “Two for Tina,” “Tina and the Real Ghost” and the beginning of “Presto Tina-o.” But what about in “Sheesh! Cab, Bob?” when he was longing to go to her party, when he was the only guest to dress up special for it, when he asked her to dance with him, and when he kissed her? Or in “The Belchies” when he showed a genuine interest in her after she dropped her damsel act, and when he indirectly called her hot? Or in “My Fuzzy Valentine” when he personally delivered his card to her after she didn’t so up at school, and also brought her all the work she missed without being asked, and he signed the card with a heart? Or in “Gene It On” when he asked her out, was willing to go wherever she wanted, was willing to sell his bike to pay for it, and admitted that he wanted to kiss her too? Or in “Can’t Buy Me Math” when he asked her out again, when he held her arm while they sat together at the bowling alley, when he was the only one so hurt by the ruse that he stormed out?

It’s true, sometimes Jimmy Junior doesn’t appreciate Tina enough, but that’s only sometimes. With everything they’ve shown, I don’t know how anyone could argue that he doesn’t care for her at all. It’s just that he’s 13. He’s confused and he doesn’t know how to deal with feelings. But people seem to expect him to act with a maturity that’s beyond him right now, and that’s not fair. I ship Tina and Jimmy Junior because I see the potential. I believe that someday Jimmy Junior is going to grow up and he’s going to see how amazing Tina is. Someday he’s going to wake up and realize that somehow he got lucky enough to have Tina Belcher like him, and he’s going to become someone that is worthy of her. Someday Tina’s going to finally have the boy she’s always wanted and Jimmy Junior’s going to finally have someone who cares for him the way the rest of his family hasn’t, and they’re going to love each other so much. And it’s going to be beautiful.

TINA BELCHER

for the ask meme

Why I like them: demonstrates an admirable level of confidence in all of her hobbies and endeavors (I could never be that proud about writing erotic friend fiction), a really great and beautiful character development arc (so much more self-assurance lately), wonderful and unique relationships with all the other belchers (I know I used this for gene too but it’s still true)
Why I don’t: ??
Favorite episode (scene if movie): boyz 4 now, mother daughter laser razor, bad tina, the equestranauts
Favorite season/movie: season 3
Favorite line: “I’m a smart, strong, sensual woman.”
Favorite outfit: either her standard outfit or the ‘buttloose’ outfit
OTP: tina and jimmy jr.
Brotp: tina and louise
Head Canon: I honestly cannot come up with anything
Unpopular opinion: I don’t ship zeke and tina (as anything other than friends…except for that one exception of a tina/jj/zeke polyamorous relationship)
A wish: picking up in tina/jj’s relationship where gene it on left off (more dates, basically)
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: tina being bullied when she starts high school/her losing her sense of self and confidence
5 words to best describe them: god damn – what a queen
My nickname for them: teeny tina

I'm so glad you agree about Jimmy Junior and Tina being a terrible couple. Like there's so many times when he treats her like crap and it's so annoying how everyone acts like they're meant to be

their romance is so poorly written lmao i don’t understand why so many people ship them unconditionally. his attitude toward her changes so much from episode to episode and typically he’s only nice to her when someone else shows interest.
