Hey guys! Sorry I kinda vanished for the last two month or something, I was pretty busy with, like, life in general, also with really cool comic stuff. But I’m back now, and want to try to be more active again!
I drew two Taako design ideas, pre- and post y’know-the-thing-that-happened-in-wonderland. it’s based on a neat idea my sister had, design-wise. not sure if I’ll switch over to this tho, I like my old Taako a lot, too!
also, it’s taz lady week and that rules, but I’m too tired to finish the drawing I started for today - so, I guess I’ll have to do two pieces tomorrow. welp
Request for @original-vanda who asked for a drawing of Obi-Wan and Ahsoka ! (I only drew them together, not especially as a pairing thing, as I’m not at ease with it, but I still wanted to draw the both of them for you so I hope you like it :) Olso, this is my first drawing of Ahsoka so I hope it’s alright XD )
i couldn’t fall asleep and i can’t stop thinking about how matt and pidge are fight side by side but i wanted to see them have downtime to talk about something serious
i remember seeing a post waaaay back on how matt may have helped picked the name katie when she came out as a trans girl and now i wanted to draw the whole what should i call you now convo
this is pretty messy because ive already taken my sleeping meds and i just drew this with inks so my mistakes are visible or crossed out completely the pidge in the last pic was kinda far away but its in response to getting food
matt is a really good support system for pidge :) [the nickname katiebug for pidge came from a post by @klanced]
How a black anime director deals with cultural appropriation
LeSean Thomas is one of the most unique anime creators working today. Born in the South Bronx projects, his talent for storyboarding propelled him to success in America (Black Dynamite, The Boondocks), South Korea (Legend of Korra), and Japan (Cannon Busters). Now, he is collaborating with anime streaming service Crunchyroll on an independent anime project, Children of Ether.
At Anime Boston, LeSean Thomas gave the floor to attendees for a Q&A session. Here’s what he had to say.
Q: Did you have to learn Japanese to make anime?
A: I only know English, bad English, and a little Korean I picked up living in Seoul. I don’t know Japanese. I’m working with Satelight on Cannon Busters, which has a lot of English speaking staff. This is not a traditional Japanese studio. At another studio, I may have needed to commission a translator.
Q: Can you tell us about Children of Ether?
A: It’s a mix between Escape From New York and The Warriors. It takes place in a dystopian city that’s falling apart. After Rhonda Vega, the daughter of an important person accidentally kills somebody with a mysterious power inside her, aether, she starts to uncover the truth.
Rhonda Vega is Afro-Latina. I gave her that name so she sounds racially ambiguous.
Q: You’ve said before that only a creator can bring out representation by creating POC characters. Do you intentionally create characters of color?
A: I didn’t start drawing black characters until I was 20. It took a while before I reached that point in my career where I wanted to see myself in the media I was creating. It didn’t really dawn on me that all I was drawing were white characters before then. I’m sure white creators feel the same way—it’s not something they think about. Then I realized, “Why don’t I see myself?” I drew white comic book characters because I just thought that’s the way it is.
I didn’t want to think about race at first, I just wanted to draw fun sh*t. But in the racially complex political climate in America… you can’t be a creator in this world without an awareness of what’s going on around you. Everyone creates characters as a reflection of themselves, whether they admit it or not. Nobody wants to talk about race, but it’s unavoidable.
Q: Do you have advice for a white creator worried about cultural appropriation?
A: This sh*t was never talked about three years ago. I don’t know if it’s because Trump’s in office and people are angry. Look man, the idea behind that is that you should do what you think it cool. Somebody is always going to have a problem with things you make. I sometimes get comments from black friends who think my characters aren’t black enough. And as a person of color, I have colleagues in the industry who create characters who are not their ethnicity, and they don’t check in with me like, “Yo, LeSean is this safe?”
If it comes from an honest place, you should be OK with putting it out there.
Q: How do you create stories for animation?
A: A character must always want something, even if it’s just a glass of water. There must be somebody trying to prevent them from getting it. And always start in the middle of things.

This is actually something that I drew a few days ago bUT I really wanted to draw something and I wasn’t sure what exactly and I’ve had this particular idea for a long time so I GAVE IT A SHOT AND I’M SO SO HAPPY WITH HOW IT CAME OUT. I’ve always thought that some of Robin’s hair styles that had her braiding or doing something with the sides of her hair were really pretty (though the short style that Carinus has is my fave obvs iaeirg.) So I just had this idea of mama Carinus braiding and pulling Lucina’s hair back in a pony tail for her one day and putting white flowers in it because she thought it looked pretty on her and Lucina would love it and (*’v｀丱)☆+゜
This was so, so much fun, I think I had the most fun with her hair. I originally had it down and then the parts of her hair that were braided pulled back but I couldn’t get it to look the way I wanted it too so I tried putting it all up and I LOVE IT SO MUCH *゜✲ฺ(✿◕ฺ ∀◕ฺ)ฺノ゜* This whole thing I just couldn’t be happier with like uGH aoerihg Also fun fact, with the flowers, I was trying to carry over the flowers from Lucina’s (just S?) support with male Robin. I DON’T KNOW THE FULL CONTEXT BEHIND THEM I haven’t seen their support yet but I thought mama Carinus would find them pretty on her baby girl.
I FINALLY DREW SOMETHING OMG like seriously the past 2 weeks have been torture i couldn’t draw for shit honestly i was so upset about it i just kept drawing circles and even if i did sketch out something i still didn’t like how it was but i did it finally after trying so much i finally did it i drew mob from mob psycho 100, after watching the anime i really wanted to draw him his simple design makes him fun to draw ~
I drew Merlin again because something in me just nEEDed to, and now I shall post it cause i want to collaborate in the fan art world. This was HEAVILY inspired by one of @whimsycatcher’s digital art. She’s amazing like wow x100, so yes if u wanna follow a smooth Merlin fan art account, follow her. Obv mine isn’t as great but still I hope you like it!!
I’m rereading Allegiance by @kaelinaloveslomaris and it’s so good!! Highly highly recommend everyone to read it if you want some super super well written Skywalker fam stuff with good characterisations and a good plot and all in all 11/10 everything
I wanted to draw something for it so here’s how I imagined the half cape outfit from chapter nine! I honestly don’t know how half capes work or how you attach them so I just drew a chain similar to the one vader has on his cape, which I think is a cool detail anyway because of the “Well, I’m really going to be a mini you, aren’t I?” comment from Luke lmao
Long post ahead! I am SO sorry if under the cut fails me again!!!
Pokémon (in the past) changed it’s animation/art style from episode to episode. Kinda like how with Steven Universe you can tell which story artists worked on which episodes by just looking at the art styles. I haven’t seen this much in Pokémon since BW but ANYWAYS this style has aaaaalways been my favorite (under the cut).
i drew Emperor Hux to go with my Senator Amidala. i know i said i wasn’t gonna draw him butttttttttttttttttttttt-how could i not? i have another without the laurel but i really wanted it to stay even though i drew it so horribly. LOL
did you know i started drawing on a regular basis because of this cartoon? yep, i loved it, the style, action and comedy it had, i have been thinking a lot lately about my art and stuff and i wanted to draw something diferent, to be honest i want to distant myself from SU for a while, so if you’re here for that sorry bruh
also, it may sound weird but i really like my art way way more when there is no shading, just the minimun made with ink, is really relaxing to me for some reason
So you guys already know that Tom can controll and create stars n stuff, but Patryk’s also featured in this AU and his power just had to be something winter related. He’s supposed to have abilities matching the season so he can do pretty much everything this season’s known for. Whatever, he himself doesn’t really like the cold and prefers something warm, that’s why he’s a fan of summer, but-
-when Paul whishes for something, not even he can resist!
Also @casual-skeleton-dreamcloud suggested Paultryk so yeah, they’re the reason I drew this (even tho I wanted to draw this since last week or so, but I finally had a reason! )
Awwhh!! Your art is so amazing! Have you read Magnus Chase? Because I saw that you drew him and it was so amazing! Could you draw Blitzen and Heathstone? ONLY if you feel like it. I don't want to make you do something you don't want to do. I think it's really important to not make artist to make something. Like make as in. " DO THAT" I'm sorry If I'm stressing you out. By the way.... Nice.
nah, it’s fine :) kinda got carried away with this actually
