A tale of two proposals
Although I wasn’t a fan of the five minute Westallen breakup (seriously, these two have the most dramatic, yet shortest ‘breakups’ in history) I still loved the two proposals that Iris received, because they were both special in their own unique ways.
Looking back on proposal #1 it was textbook perfect. It had the scattered rose petals, the candles, the soft lighting, her favorite meal and dessert, and the guy of her dreams in a dashing suit. It was literally ‘perfect’. Because of all the perfection it was easy to miss the underlying motive for Barry’s proposal. It was a shock to the system when he came out of nowhere saying that she was right and he proposed out of fear. At the time, it was ridiculous to think that Barry would EVER admit to something like because it simply wasn’t true. Except it was. Looking back at the proposal while what Barry said was sweet he started by saying, “I’ve been really busy recently with trying to avoid the future and I forgot that there is always another way…making the future. Our future.” And right there is where the alarms should have been ringing. Because while what he said was sweet, he all but admitted that he was at his wit’s end with trying to defeat Savitar so he had an epiphany that instead of trying to fight within the future Savitar showed him he would create his own.
