I really love their designs and think they fit really well with their characters and in the show. And for those complaining about the neon colour palette it’s always been like that for most of the gems just eyedrop any gem in a day scene and you’ll find they like to use very saturated colours and it works really well for separating the characters and the backgrounds.
Man I also just found out the “SU critical” tag exists and it’s pretty much 99% people complaining about any little thing they can reach for and 1% actual valid criticism. I guess i see where the toxic part of the fandom on here has move to now - _ -
Here’s how I cross stitched Samurai Jack from a picture.
It’s a promo pic that I really love back from when the original series was broadcast. This was one of a set of three landscapes. I picked my palette using the colours in the pic, and worked out how to stitch it with this printout
I worked out a scale for how many squares on the fabric fit each cm square of the printout. I used a few thread markers on the fabric here and there to help plan it out, but I just stitched the areas going by the grid. I did not put a grid on the fabric. It’s all whole cross stitch, no fractionals, because I knew the detail would be in the outlines.
When all the cross stitch was done, I used lots of backstitch to define detail, and some simple longstitch for the Aku totems. Jacks eyes are entirely white underneath, I used black satin stitch over them to get his pupils where I wanted, and extra backstitch to define his hairline, for instance.
Matchbox for scale
The back (to the past)
Finished in a natty frame
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed the new series!
hi i'm sorry i dont really mean to bother but like HOW DO U MAKE THESE BECAUSE IT'S SO LOVELY I LOVE IT I'VE BEEN DYING TO MAKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR LIKE EVER. Is there like a tutorial out there for this?? btw ur edits are AMAZING!! yourqrace(.)tumblr(.)com/post/152210476982
[the post] hey, you’re not bothering me, i’m happy to explain c:
DAY 11 and 12 of the Pokémon February challenge - Favourite Sinnoh and Unova Pokémon!
Yeah I’ve had a really busy week so I am falling behind with the challenge lol. Here is a rushed mash of the last two days. But yeah, Luxray and Zebstrika are just so badass. Now I love lions and zebras in real life, so give them electricity and a cool colour palette, and I’m sold.
Some really pretty stills from Stuck Together. I’m in love with the colour scheme of the ship and the palettes from the episode.
The first time Steven went to space, he realised the Earth was just a tiny planet in the midst of everything. But Earth is all he wants to go back to and I like how it dwarfs the ship in the first picture.
since i discovered the amazing @msjasu twins au i have been not stop thinking about yuuki! i just love him so much, what an adorable hyperactive dork. i really wanted to portrait their differences and also how supportive are to each other <3 /thekatsudonandramenfightismyfavedifferenceever!/ also i present my headcanon faceclaim for yuuri: kentaro sakaguchi.
AAAAA UR ART IS REALLY FUCKING BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE THE WAY U COLOURR AAAAAAAAA GO AL S [also would it b alright to have a smol tutorial on colouring,,?]
AAAAAAADSALAS THANK YOUUUU <33 UHHHHH IM NOT REALLY GOOD AT MAKING TUTORIAL OR A PROFFESIONAL OR ANYTHIN BUT I WILL TRY MY BEST!!
I usually just eyeball when I color and I try to experiment a lot!!!! I also color differently from artstyle to artstyle///// so im guessing you mean my most recent one?? I usually pick colors based on the mood and situation i want to portray and create palettes out of it.
I choose colors that I feel like associate with the emotions of the character and scene like warm = cozy, happy, angry, etc cool = cold, mystical, magical, sleepy, etc
I also try to make my contrast noticeble at a certain point to make it pop out more!! But it always depends on what im trying to achieve (ex. pure black shading + highley saturated flat colors = vibrant or thin colored lines + soft shading = cozy, soft , etc)
Heres a step by step on how I usually color: :OOO using laffy because he is perfect n i love him
This varies!!! depends on the mood u wanna set!! (warm or cool)
Create a folder and use clipping group Its waay easier to add shading and highlights
I used a blend of marker and pen here here (middle flat brush <33)
So, remember how I said I was going through a really frustrating art block and having and art style crisis? Well, while so, I came accross this cute challenge.
Basically what you have to do is draw something by yourself, pick some artists and draw the same thing in their style so I did the phanart version of this. Technically this is about drawing in your friends’ style but since I don’t have enough friends for that I just drew in the style of my faves haha- And then you compliment something you really like about each person’s style and it’s all nice and happy.
Also! Just to spread some love in the phanart community, if anyone else wants to do this challenge please tag with #phanartstylechallenge and I’ll be sneaking around to follow some new phanartists I don’t know yet since I’m actually quite new. You can pick as many artists as you want or do the drawings as complex as you want! This is just for fun. Absolutely no cheating though, I shouldn’t be even saying this but art theft is not okay.
hello ! i really love your art and especially your color palettes :] how do you go about choosing your colors ? sorry if you've answered this before !
aww thank you! And i dont think i have ansvered this before!
I usually dont have any plan on what colour to use for my images i just kind of do em as they come! But i have several different techniques for finishing an image with colour!
The way I go about colouring like this is that i first create a sketch in grayscale and try to figure out shading and such to get some nice values. Then when im satesfied i eighter make a layer with colour as overlay or use the grayscaled layer as shading. but instead of keeping the grayscale gray I usualy colour it in with some purple or blue to avoid having the shading look dull.
THis is the kind of colouring I use most of the time! I just put a layer down on some kind of layer mode that shades the colours withouth it looking dull. Its much easier when useing a darker purple colour on that layer. The shading should match closely to the background colour. if there is none then just go nuts! If you are useing SAI i sugjest you put the shading layer to Lumi and shade if you are useing Clip studio paint use Linear burn.
PICKING COLOURS FOR EVERY HUE:
This is the most complicated one and the same effect can be achived with overlays but sometimes you just want to pick your own colours for shading ya know!
So basicaly I choose to shade with a darker blue as indicated by the white frills having a blue shading. You can spot this stuff in reall life when looking at a white wall you can see what colour everything is shaded with and blue is the most comon one! Cherrys furr is mostly pink/lavender so i picked shading that where closely saturated to that colour but the darker a colour i picked for the shading the more saturated I made it. I allso did not stay in the same hue as the pink/lavender I keept going for a blue hue (just like with the white).
This book is greate for going more in deepth about colour and shading:
This whole thing is not really about how i choose my base colours however. I have allways just known how to do that withouth reall training. But allot of times I pick insperation from allot of weird things! If you want to find some cool colours for your cool OC maby look at some aesthetic pictures and make a mood board. I never colour pick things from reall images or anything Sometimes that can give you a wierd out of context colour! Try to look at the colour and pick the colour yourself from the colourwheel that you think match closely to what you see in the image!
As for colouring envirements i really sugjest looking up references (still dont colour pick just pick simular colours yourself)
But sometimes you might actually just want to get some colour down then I sugjest photomashing!
I did not completely draw this image from scratch! I took some free to use photos from google and pasted them together and drew them together as much as i could.
The colours came completely from the images themselfs but I had to manipulate the colour balance to get them to fit together better!
I learnt this technique from this video:
Hope this might ansver some of your colour questions!
