anonymous asked:

I'm 14 going on 15 and I hate how so many people who take a character that was just my age, and make creepy art and fic about him. I'm about to turn his current age and have been propositioned since I was 11 and was always told that adults who try things like that are perverts. So why is it when a bunch of 20 somethings pushing a teen who is around my age into a sexual relationship with an adult and do explicit crap, it's not perverted and gross? What about the teens who are feeling sexualized?

First off, thanks for writing me and being polite in your message.

The first thing I want to address is this: you should never be made to feel sexualized. Unless it’s with someone you want to be sexual with, like a crush of yours. Even with someone you consider a crush, if you don’t want to feel that way and don’t want to do anything that can be considered sexual (be it even a kiss), you should never feel forced. This is not just now because you’re a teen, this is something that all of us go through and need to keep in mind even in our 20s, 30s and so on.

I’m so sorry that you feel that way in real life because some adults are absolutely disgusting. They are. Adults that prey on children are absolutely disgusting and horrifying and you should call them out, tell your parents or your teachers or the police. I’m not kidding here. I know it’s hard and you might feel like you’re going to be made fun of, or that they won’t believe you, or that they will side with the adult, or that will belittle you and tell you it’s not a big deal. If you tell someone you trust, they won’t do all those things. Go with your guts. Tell, even if someone only threw nasty words at you or catcalled you (and I really hope you never went through anything heavier than that). In those cases there won’t be much that you can do, but telling someone will help.

What I can tell from your message, is that you (subconsciously or not) equate sex with generally being nasty and perverted. This will probably be unnecessary, but I’ll say it anyway: sex is not inherently gross or disgusting or creepy. If you feel that it is, then it means you’re not ready to enter a sexual relationship, and that’s perfectly fine and normal. I won’t tell you that that’s only because of your age, because some people never (or very rarely) show any interest in sex (it’s called asexuality and it falls under the LGBT+ spectrum). Whether you do end up growing to want sex or not doesn’t matter here.

What matters is that now you clearly don’t want to see sex and anything to do with it in your fandom experience and that’s fine. Tumblr offers you ways to make your experience better and show you only the content you want to see. Block any nsfw tag. Don’t follow blogs whose description clearly states that they post nsfw (like mine). Tumblr is a big and scary place if you just take everything it throws at you (be it ship hate, nsfw stuff, etc). The thing with it is that it can’t cater to everyone’s tastes, so you have to be active about blocking the stuff that YOU don’t want to see. Other 14-going-on-15 year olds might be okay seeing nsfw fanart and posts and that will be their Tumblr experience, but you should definitely take measures to protect yourself from what you don’t want to see.

Now, the thing about Otayuri is that no matter how you twist it, it’s not illegal to ship it, even in a sexual way. You should definitely read this post about it, because the thing is, as much as we can project our feelings and real-world stuff into anime characters, they’re not real.

I assure you that if Yuri on Ice was a flesh and bone show things would be different. I don’t really watch any current TV shows with teens in them so I can’t speak for what other fandoms do with their ship, whether they’re sexualized or not. I can only speak for this silly and amazing anime that’s been consuming my life for the past seven months or so.

Anime and cartoon characters are a safe way to explore things about real life. Whether it be sex or depression or anxiety or simply falling in love, we can all identify with an anime character and see our flaws, our fears and our history in them.

The thing you have to remember is that we (I’m speaking for the slightly older part of the fandom since I’m in my twenties) have been Yuri’s age. We’ve very likely had crushes on boys or girls that were a bit younger, our age or slightly older (like Otabek is). So I think for most of us, shipping Otayuri is a way to remember what it feels like to be a teen and be in love/have a huge crush. We will never be that age again, and maybe there’s things we regret not doing, crushes we wish we had confessed. By shipping Otayuri in an active way (meaning: drawing fanart or writing fanfiction) we can explore things we experienced as teens (or wish we had) and pour a little bit of ourselves in Yuri’s (or Otabek’s) character.

Those things might involve anything from simple fluff or rough sex, because, accept it or not, some people at 15 or 16 were (are) having sex of all kinds. Sweet, loving, rough, vanilla, kinky, you-name-it sex. So not to explore that aspect in a healthy way (through fics or fanart) would be lying about what reality is, it would be denying that we ever thought about or had sex at that age.

Much like with blocking tumblr content, you can choose what kinds of fanfiction you read. Only read General and Teen and Up tagged things, read about fluff and about falling in love in a sweet innocent way. Read anything tagged “Ace!Yuri” (it means asexual, the thing I was telling you about before).

But please understand this: when we sexualize Yuri, we’re mostly sexualizing our (often past) selves. Not other teens, not other real-life people. Yuri doesn’t exist in real life, and many of us see bits and pieces of ourselves in him. When we write about him we really write about ourselves, be it because we want to see how we (maybe a little sassier and bitchier version of us) would have confessed a crush to our best friend, or would have handled the aftermath of having just shoved our gloved fingers in said best friend’s mouth in front of thousands of people. Fanfiction is a study about versions of ourselves that never existed, but might as well have.

Another thing I need to make clear: Otabek is not an adult. I assure you that the morning of your 18th birthday you won’t feel like an adult. You’ll feel like the you from yesterday and it will be anticlimactic af, you’ll be like “That’s it?” and yeah, it will be it. Just because the law in some country or state says that 18 is the age of consent (which is set to 16 or 14 years old in many other countries) it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically an adult at that age. You can be 18 and have had sex since you were 14. You can be 18 and completely uninterested in sex. You can be 18 and have a 15 year old mental age, or you can be 16 and be mentally more mature than some 20 year olds.

What canon has shown us, is that Yuri and Otabek are much closer to each other’s mental age than the 2 years + a few months difference they share. I encourage you to find posts about why there’s no power imbalance between Yuri and Otabek, because they compete in the same sport and they have had similar experiences in life.

In conclusion, if you feel irked about nsfw fanart and fanfics and discussions when it comes to this particular ship, please don’t read it/watch it. But what I can assure you is that none of us are trying to sexualize you or your peers. When we sexualize pixels on a screen we don’t see those pixels as a flesh and bone version of a human, we only see an idealized character whose age we are or have been and whose personality and experiences we want to safely explore.

Also really important: when we write/draw NSFW, we don’t write/draw it for teens to read. I repeat: WE DON’T CREATE NSFW CONTENT FOR TEENS. We’re not your parents or guardians, we write NSFW for whoever feels like they can handle seeing nsfw content. If you’re a teen that goes on the nsfw tag and then complains about it (I’m not saying that’s what you did here, I’m speaking generally), it’s only your fault for going in a tag that you weren’t comfortable to begin with.

TL;DR:

  • Speak up if you feel sexualized IRL in a way you don’t like;
  • Learn how to use tumblr safely, block tags, understand that tumblr doesn’t do those things for you. Make your fandom experience exactly the one you want to see;
  • Don’t trust adults who tell you this ship is somehow illegal: it’s not;
  • Understand what’s behind fiction and fanfiction as a way we have to explore real life things (often too personal to write about as ourselves, so we project those things in characters we like);
  • Understand that adulthood is not something that happens from one day to another;
  • Learn to discern what content is meant to be consumed by a teen and what content isn’t;
  • Be safe.

Throwin’ the Bones

Of the divinatory techniques with which I am familiar, bones are my personal favorite. Yes, they have that very witchy vibe – but it’s more than that; the bones are honest. They don’t sugar coat, and while they have to be interpreted, once you know how to read them – there’s little room for interpretation. They are very direct and are much better suited to answering yes or no questions than tarot. With a little imaginative methodology, there few questions the bones can’t answer. And even fewer they won’t answer (as tarot cards can be known to do). A few examples of things I think the bones are better at answering than tarot: questions involving time, questions regarding health, sickness and maledictions; they present a broader grasp to any given situation – incorporating things outside of the question presented and how these things relate to the question or the reading, showing the interconnectedness of life – and how these things all relate back.

Our countless cultures have countless methods for collecting and reading the Bones – and I can only rightly attest to my own methodology: one in which the Bones need not necessarily consist solely of bones, but a collection of gathered trinkets and curios, all with their own meaning, their own story and their own energy. My collection consists of: bones (bare and painted), coins, stones, shells, jewelry, twigs, buttons, animal teeth and other squabbles. The only rule I implement is that the item can be easily gathered and (safely) tossed without breakage or injury (save your razor-blades and glass shards for witches’ bottles!).

Collecting the Bones and Bobbles

Most any small bones will do, though its recommended that you use bones that haven’t been cooked, as cooked bones have a tendency to get very brittle – especially in the case of chicken, which is quite common. In my collection I have a number of different animal bones: most are chicken, but I also have some raccoon and possum bones, as well as teeth and claws. I built a “base” of bones, but am continuously adding or replacing as I see fit.

A short list of “Bones” I like to include – most of which serve as my “base” bones:

  • Self Bone – used for the reader
  • Other Bone – used to represent another person or the person you are reading
  • Magic Bone – represents the need for or use of magic
  • “Evil” Bone – malicious or hateful acts, disadvantageous behavior
  • Love Bone – represents romantic love
  • Male Bone – represents male fertility, masculinity, sexuality or a man
  • Female Bone – represents female fertility, femininity, sexuality or a woman
  • Health Bone – represents physical or mental health
  • Wealth Bone – represents financial standing or monetary issues
  • Family Bone – represents familial connections or a family member
  • Fate Bone – represents destiny and your lifepath (I use a shell for this: open side up means an event can be altered, destiny is not set in stone; open side down, this path must be walked – prepare in lieu of fighting)
  • “Key” Bone – (I actually use a small key) which represents the key to any given situation, the remedy or problem at hand and its cause

This list is by no means comprehensive and I have many more bones in my collection with more menial meanings. This is simply a small list of options to be added to and adapted by whosoever casts the bones.

Reading the Bones

There is no right or wrong way to read the bones, there is simply your way and their way. Below I will dictate how it is that I do a general reading – again, this is just an example of one way, take and adapt to fit your own unique style or tradition!

  1. Begin by collecting your bones into your hand. I keep mine in a leather pouch, but don’t like to toss them directly from the bag as it doesn’t allow for much control – i.e. the bones fall out either in a massive, unreadable pile or they fly out in such a scattered way nothing is close enough to read. Throwing them from the hand allows for a rather contained casting, and one that can be read easily. I do not include the Self or Other bone, instead, the Self Bone is placed before the caster and the Other Bones is placed either in front of the person you’re reading for or simply in the middle of the casting area. When reading for yourself, place the Self Bone in the center and discard the Other Bone.
  2. Throw the Bones. This can be done on a square of cloth on which a circle (or any number of complex shapes) has been drawn or simply upon a flat table. If throwing in a circle, discard all bones that fall outside of it. These bones are null for the reading, though they can also be read as “far from the person’s mind/current situation.”
  3. Interpret the Bones. This is done by noting the location and connection of the bones present. For instance, note the Love Bones proximity to the Other Bones and the Male Bone. This could be interpreted as being the male love of the querent – but if the “Evil” bones is introduced, this could symbol ulterior motives or a hostile or explosive relationship. Read based on both their proximity to the Other Bone – the closer, the higher priority the matter is – and their relation to one another. It’s very much like investigating a big puzzle, putting it together piece by piece to form a comprehensive understanding of their life or situation. Also not their relation based on the third dimension: x bone seems to be overlapping y bone – is the x issue eclipsing an underlying problem or truth represented by y? It depends. Only through practice will you find clarity.
  4. Convey the message. I always like to spend a few moments making a variety of “hmm” noises when reading for others – it builds up their anticipation. Or you can throw in the occasional gasp or snarky smirk. Their responses are usually hilarious – even more so when yours are genuine! If you are reading on your own, it may be a good idea to sketch out a general map of the readings as opposed to taking a picture as often bones overlie others, which makes for a rather misleading photo representation. You might also find jotting down notes rewarding, especially in synthesizing a cohesive read.
  5. Once you’ve garnered all the information you can from that particular toss, feel free to specify: take the bone/situation you wish to examine and toss the rest again over it/them, reading the others through that particular lens. I.E. Who is this person mentioned? What are their qualities? What is the nature of this love? What magic is being referenced here? Follow that rabbit hole as far as you wish, building your understanding.

Do not be afraid to adjust your style! Want to narrow down a time frame? Make a sort of timeline with the bones. Wish to determine the source of an ailment? Shape the bones into the form of a body. I find the bones allow for far more creativity and ingenuity than cards. And above all – TRUST YOUR GUT.

Photos: These are photos of my “base” bones when I first started reading; since then they have probably doubled (if not tripled) in number and do not incorporate my other animal bones, claws or teeth.

I came out to my parents when I was 18 years old. I left a letter under my mother’s pillow, gave her a kiss goodbye and then embarked on my first tour ever. I remember sitting in the back of a van headed to the abyss of the open road, fearing for my life. Ever since, my time has been swept up by life on the road performing with my band as an openly gay front woman. At the time, I never realized how impactful something as simple as being my authentic self and true to my heart would be for thousands of others out there.

Over the past few years it’s been the most powerful and humbling experience to watch the PVRIS fanbase become such a safe place for people of the LGBTQ community. We have witnessed countless proposals, been a part of coming-outs, read hundreds of letters and have heard so many incredible stories. Thank you for all the love, support and courage you have all given to me to be myself on this journey thus far, and thank you for the love, support and courage you have given yourselves and others around you. I want nothing more than for you all to feel the utmost love and freedom in being yourselves. You are all exceptionally magic.

—  For Gay Pride Month, Billboard asked numerous pop culture luminaries to write ‘love letters’ to the LGBTQ community. Above, PVRIS’ lead singer Lynn Gunn shares hers.

So I grew up living my entire life without ever making my bed. (I also grew up never really getting rid of anything either, but that’s a different story.) My parents never set that standard on me and I rarely had friends or judgy relatives up in my room. So it was safe to say that when I read @unfuckyourhabitat both in blog and in book form I was vehemently against the whole concept of making my bed every day. What’s the point? If I keep the rest of the space clean, why would I need to make it? Why tuck in the sheet corners when I prefer cocooning in my own set of blankets? To add a secondary complication to the mix, my wife and I don’t share blankets at all. (She gets the comforter, I get two fuzzy blankets and the sheet.) After 24 years of living an un-made bed life, how do I make the bed in such a way that works for me and my wife’s lifestyle?
The answer, of course, was to put one iota of effort into research and creative planning. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this practice of individual sheets is common overseas and I got a couple great ideas. This is my method in making the bed in the laziest way possible:
I start out laying on my side of the bed with my bundle of linens before me. I take my blankets and sheet and I straighten them out from this pseudo laying/sitting position as I’m able to use my legs to make them nice and even. Then I slip out and go to my wife’s side. She’s got this lil soft blanket she likes to cuddle with so I throw that flat on her side and then spread the comforter all over that. We have three pillows apiece, so I jus make sure I keep the tan ones at the top because I don’t know it looks nice I guess. (*ultimate shrug*) All in all, it takes me like 3 minutes to do this method and it comes out nice enough for what I’m looking for.
I committed to making the bed like this for an entire week, and I can officially say that I’ve been recruited to the dark side. This was something I thought was stupid and useless, but was I discovered was that it did bring a tiny, positive ray of nice aesthetic into our small bedroom. It feels nice at the end of the day to slip into a bed that you don’t have to fight with the blankets to rearrange after they’ve been balled up from the night before.
The biggest thing I learned about “making the bed” is that there is no one “true ” way to make it. As long as it’s organized and flat, who cares if the loose linens are tucked into the sides? It’s your bed! Make the system work for you!
TL;DR As one person who thought this bed making practice was useless and nonessential, it turned out to be a nice addition to my newly organized life. You don’t have to make the bed the way that mother taught you. Give yourself some flexibility (and get creative from internet sources) and the end result should make everyone happy.
So thanks @unfuckyourhabitat for yelling at me to “Make Your Bed!” every day. I don’t think I ever would have done this without you.

I Know I Want to Be a Sugar Baby...Now What?

What Should You Do Once You’ve Decided to Become a Sugar Baby?

I can remember it like it was yesterday, best friend. I was fresh out of what I would on some days consider my best vanilla relationship and decided I wanted to be a sugar baby. Well, I didn’t decide. The Joker decided for me. “If you’re good at something-never do it for free” That one line changed my life. I googled how to become a sugar baby and found Tumblr. Within an hour of finding Tumblr, I had an SA account. The rest, as they say, was history.

But, girl, I get it. It’s not like that for everyone. Analysis paralysis. Fear of failure. General confusion. Overwhelm from too much info. It can be a lot. So I’m going to offer you a list of the things I did when I first started sugaring.

  1. Research! Research, research, research. Duh, I can see you saying. Sis, I can even see you rolling your eyes. I know. Everyone says research, but no one says what you should try to learn or who you should learn from. Let’s tackle the first half of that problem now and the other half in a moment. There are basic things that you want to know. If you decide to sugar online (baby, please don’t), learn how to set up a profile. Learn how to set up a fake phone number whether it’s on Google, WhatsApp, or some other provider. Learn a few things about table manners so that you’re comfortable no matter where you are. Learn how you should dress to blend in with several different types of venues. One of the easiest ways to decide if advice is legit is by consensus. If you see that same advice repeated on Tumblr profile after Tumblr profile after Tumblr page, then it’s probably something you want to commit to memory. But keep in mind that you don’t have to follow every piece of advice that you read- especially the ones that try to tell you what to say word for word. I suggest you avoid those. They most likely won’t work for you.
  2. Figure out EXACTLY why you’re doing this. I spent so much time spinning my tires because I couldn’t figure out what I was doing or why. Know why you’re getting in this game. No really. Sit down and write it out.
  3. Make a business plan. This is a business. Act like it. I’ve already put together 13 questions that will help you develop that plan. It covers everything from what your ideal SD looks like to how you plan to market yourself to how much you should ask for as an allowance (the answer to this is-however the fuck much you want because it’s nobody’s business but yours). Take the time to go through it.
  4. Figure out what makes you uncomfortable about sugaring. What scares you the most? I’d actually like to hear about this one. Send me a list of all the things that scare you about sugaring and while I may not be able to get back to you the same day I promise you I will respond so we can talk about what scares you. BUT DO NOT send me just a list of things that scare you. Send me what you want to do to address those fears too.
  5. Get ready to freestyle. If you aren’t convinced that it’s for you read this. If you need help on how to freestyle read this.
  6. Go freestyle. Read this. If you’ve already read it, reread it and decide which parts of it you like and which parts you’re going to ignore. It’s your life. My feelings won’t be hurt, and I won’t think you’re a failure if you don’t do everything I say exactly the way I say you should do it. Be safe. Live life in a way that makes you smile.
  7. Get ready to be rejected. A lot. You will be rejected a lot. You will hear no a lot. You will see white SB’s, Asian SB’s, Latina SB’s make it before you. If you decide to sugar online, please god don’t get on SA, you will see men say that they don’t want you just because of the color of your skin. It will hurt. You will wonder why you bother. But the successful girls? The @brownstatuesquesugarbaby ‘s of the world? They’re the ones that hustled their asses off, celebrated the victories, shrugged off the losses and DID THE WORK. You gotta work bitch.

Speaking of work, I want to leave you with this final note. The women that make it in this world have one thing in common: they are not waiting for someone to do the hard work for them. They are ready to research. They are ready to put in the time and effort. Are they afraid to reach out with their questions? No. But their questions show that they took the time to learn independently instead of expecting things to be spoon fed to them. These are the big leagues, sis, you can build a career or at least jump start one with the money and gifts you get in this lifestyle. Don’t waste your time, don’t waste your big sugar sister’s time, if you don’t want this enough to work for it.

There it is, best friend. As always, I want to know what you think. If you’re just starting out was this helpful? If you’ve been in the game a while, did this sound like what you did when you first started? Let’s talk about it!

I’m Here Now (Tony X Daughter!Reader)

“T-There’s…. The hospital called, something about a car accident, and… apparently I have a daughter.” Tony admitted. The team looked at each other, before looking back at him in shock. “Oh god I have a daughter… I need to go.” He announced, before rushing to leave, the team following him closely behind.

Dorian - Two Years Later

During the Exalted Council, if the Inquisitor speaks to Dorian, he sits in front of a chessboard. So, I headcanon that this happened (chess’ headcanons from here):

“I saw Demetra’s hand, Cullen.”
The silence felt heavy between the two of them.
They had met a couple of hours before, when the new Tevinter ambassador had smugly shooed away his colleagues that were chatting around the Commander.
They both needed to speak and they both knew they gave their best if some chess game was involved.
So, they played.
Dorian spoke quietly again, tapping one finger on the luxurious chess board “Well, I admit I forced her to show me her hand. When you wrote me the first time I thought you were a bit paranoid. Now, I regret you didn’t write me earlier.”
The mage moved his pawn “Do not think I’m blaming you, of course. I’m furious with the stupid me.”
The Commander opened his mouth, his eyes gentle, but Dorian shook one hand vehemently “Please, don’t. I’m a Mage. And a very good one. I should have known that an ancient magic such as that damned Anchor is couldn’t just stay quietly carved on her flesh forever. Visante kaffas, I have been so stupid!”
“Nobody could foresee this, Dorian. Nobody. I’m sure Demetra told you the same.”
“Actually she told me to stop being silly and give her another cup of tea.”
Both the men forced a smile.
“How is she doing, Cullen?”
“She…” he stopped, staring at the chessboard. He couldn’t say aloud again what she had said him not later than six weeks ago – six weeks and five days ago, most precisely. He couldn’t. Dorian had the right to know, though.
“She is fighting the Anchor, but she’s not sure who will win.”
Dorian sighed heavily, pinching his nose in a poor attempt to hide his reddened eyes “We’ll save her, Cullen, even if I had to invent a spell myself bargaining with all the spirits in the Fade.”
Cullen looked at him, his throat painfully clenched.
“Thank you.”
It was all he managed to say and it was insufficient to express his gratitude towards Dorian. Towards his friend.
Dorian understood and nodded anyway.
“I told her she shouldn’t be here, wasting her time with this useless, ungrateful bunch of people.” the Mage hissed “She should take care of herself better.”
“I told her the same” the Commander captured Dorian’s Hero of Ferelden “But Demetra helped Thedas’ people while they suspected her of destroying the Conclave, calling her an abomination. She’s not going to act any different now that she carries the Inquisitor title.”
“I bet she also doesn’t want to put Leliana in a more precarious position.”
“That, too.”
“I warned her that nobody was going to thank her,” Dorian sighed conquering a position near Cullen’s Divine “And I fucking hate being right. But this? An Exalted Council against the only person who stood up between Corypheus and the world? This is beyond ingratitude. It’s monstrous.”
A silent nod was all that Cullen could add.
Cassandra had said something along that line, in a more colorful way. Varric, the same. Sera had already menaced to kill at least thirty nobles and twenty diplomats. The Iron Bull and Thom Ranier hadn’t spoken very much, but they escorted their Inquisitor silently daring people to say something wrong, as Demetra greeted people here and there.
Vivienne had been kind enough to keep away from the Inquisitor the most problematic guests, while Josephine took care of being the first to talk with the ones who would like very much spat their venom in the Inquisitor’s face. Cole had asked Maryden to sing Demetra’s favorite song and Leliana, though bounded to her role, had sent in her bedroom fresh flowers, trustworthy servants, useful information about the ones who still sided with the Inquisition and a giant box of the finest Orlesian chocolate.
Demetra had wept in Cullen’s arms “I’m so lucky to have all of you. As long as you still trust me, I’m alright.”
Dorian cleared his throat “Speaking about messy things, I heard there was quite a problem with the bedrooms when the Inquisition arrived.”
The Commander couldn’t stop the blush, but Dorian’s grin was full of pride “Well done, Cullen!”
“So everybody knows about my change of quarters?”
“Are you kidding me? The Commander of the Inquisition army that takes his luggage, ignores the outraged Chamberlain and marches in the Inquisitor’s quarters declaring that he will stay there, messing with thousands of years of protocol? My friend, you are a legend.”
Cullen shrugged “Demetra agreed and I’m not going to leave her alone just because a useless etiquette told me so.”
“Of course! I can already hear the minstrels singing about the Lion of the Inquisition who marched in his beloved Inquisitor room and took her in his strapping arms before kissing…”
“Yes, thank you, Dorian, I get the concept.” Cullen shivered, making him laugh. A sincere one.
“And I didn’t kiss her in front of everybody! I just told them to go to bother someone else.”
“So no kisses? Not even a little one?” Dorian pouted.
Cullen tried to not grin “I didn’t say that.”
Dorian winked at him “Your admirers will be heartbroken to have the ultimate confirmation that you’re not available.”
Cullen smiled “Finally! Maybe they’ll stop to send crows asking me to marry this countess or that noble.”
Dorian tipped his head on the side “Since we’re speaking about this, let me ask you a thing: are you going to ask her to marry you?”
“Yes.”
No hesitation. No uncertainty. Just fierce firm belief.
“Good. Soon?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have a plan?”
“Not anymore. I had one, but now I suppose I need another one.”
“Do you have a ring?”
“I was going in Denerim to buy one when all of this happened.”
Dorian nodded again, stopping their match, and fishing something out of his pocket. Cullen took the delicate box from his hands with a perplexed frown. When he opened it, he couldn’t hold back a surprised sound: laying against soft velvet, a couple of golden rings glittered under the afternoon sun. Inside the biggest one, it was carved “Demetra & Cullen”. In the other one, he read “Cullen & Demetra”. A line of minuscule arabesques in the external part made them two little masterpieces of gold-working.
Before he could speak, Dorian smiled, quiet and sincere “In my Country, it’s the best friend of a bride or a groom that buys the wedding bands. Now, since you don’t have a lot of friends that can  be better than me and I’m quite sure Demetra loves me as much as I love her, allow me to follow one of the few traditions that I’m still proud to.”
Cullen’s thanks were too full of emotion to be as much eloquent as he wished, but they were sincere in every bit. And Dorian winked at him “One last thing: I won’t tell you to take care of her. I have no doubt you will because she’s lovely and you don’t want that an angry Magister sets your ass on fire.”
Cullen smiled, but he knew Dorian was deadly serious.
His friend continued “What I want you to promise me is that the two of you will do the impossible to be happy together. That you will treasure what you two have and you will fight to keep it alive. Life can be hard even for people who love each other as you two do, but you have something precious. Treasure it.”
“I will. We will, I promise on my life.”
“Good. And now, let’s finish this game. I want to take back some Tevinter pride and kick that awesome Fereldan ass of your.”
Cullen chuckled, putting the precious box with the rings safely in his pocket “Good luck with that. And… thank you, Dorian.”

Princess of Themyscira: Part 6

Prompt: When the world is invaded and your world is turned upside down, you’re forced to make a choice that will rule your future

Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four. Part Five

My Daughter,

I’m not quite sure where to begin. I hope you never have to read this letter, but the warrior in me, says that is a dream. I believe I will soon meet my end. I face it with my head held high, knowing that this is my sacred duty … a duty that will be entrusted to you when I am gone.

Man’s world is a troubled place. It is filled with evil, and deceit. But there is good, and I am so grateful that you grew up surrounded by it. Within man’s world there are caring, loving, and faithful people who must be protected.

For years I have stood up for those who could not. I vanquished enemies determined to decimate the good of this world. Now I entrust that duty to you. I apologise in advance. This path is not easy, and you will be faced with difficult choices. However, I believe this is as much your destiny as much as it was mine.

I have upheaved your life once already. I have forced you away from the world you know and love, and delivered you to my sisters. I have no doubt that they have welcomed you, trained you, and most importantly, loved you. Now I am upheaving it again, by asking you to finish what I started.

I have left you the necessary items in our secret place. May they aid you in the same way they aided me.

My dear, sweet, daughter. You are so loved. Your brothers will help guide you, and your father and I will wait for you until your time comes. I pray this isn’t for many years. Live your life my dear one. Live and thrive and know that you are not only my daughter, but your father’s daughter. You are unstoppable.

    With all my love,

        Your mother

You pace as you read the letter. You do your best to ignore the eyes on you until you’re done. Sighing, you fold up the letter and ask, “Who’s read it?”

“No one, Miss Wayne. It came straight to my hands upon your mother’s death. I have kept it safe.”

You nod, “But she told you what she wants me to do.”

Alfred’s face never falters, “She told me her hopes Miss Wayne, but she would never demand it of you.”

    “The world does though.”

“Not everyone is meant to shoulder the weight of the world as your parents did. And as much, as I would love for you to return home, I can see you’ve made a home for yourself here as well. You have found a second family, one who cares for you. Your mother would never begrudge you that.”

Io answers before you can, “Because you know so much about our princess?” You shoot Io a warning look, but you should have known better. Alfred had never required anyone to protect him. He had always fended for himself, and the family.

“Ma’am, I never claimed to know more about Ms. Diana than you. But I believe I knew her fairly well. She was a strong and independent woman who loved with her whole heart, and only wanted the best for those she loved. If Miss Y/N is happy here, then I see no reason for her to leave.”

Your grandmother’s voice rings out next, “You knew my daughter well?”

Alfred’s smile is gentle and kind, “Yes, your majesty, I did. I raised Master Bruce after his parents died. He was a lonely boy, very bright, and very secluded. He blossomed under the love your daughter gave him, and reciprocated it one hundred percent. As a result, I watched these children, including their daughter grow up. I’d like to think, that after all those years, we might know something about her as well.”

Silence engulfs everyone there, and after several minutes you say, “I need to think.”

Without another word, you walk away. You walk for several miles, until you’re out of sight. Assured, that you’re alone, you take out the letter and read it again, and again, and again.

You feel their presence, but don’t speak until they sit down around you. Io, is the first to speak, “I’m sorry … I was out of line.”

You give her a small smile, “You were worried Io. It’s okay.”

“I felt anger at seeing them. They took your mother from us, and now I fear they’ll take you as well.”

You sigh, “My mother left of her own free will.”

“And what will you do with your free will?” Artemis asks. You hand her the letter and wait until everyone has read it.

There’s silence for several minutes before you say, “She made sure I was prepared.”

“I fear this may be too much for you to handle alone.” Calyce says.

You nod, “I know it is, but I’ll have the League and the Team.”

“And us.” Artemis states.

You spin around to face your friends, “I can’t ask that of you.”

“You didn’t ask, we are simply declaring our intentions.” Euboea states.

“We have already lost one princess, we will not lose another,” Io whispers.

Artemis smiles at you, “Man’s world is in turmoil. It will take more than one woman to fix it.”

You smile, and stand up, your friends follow suit, “Let’s just hope the manor is still standing.”

You return to the group on the beach, and the look in your grandmother’s eyes tells you she knows. She gives a small smile, “You are your mother’s daughter I would expect nothing less.” Her eyes go past you to your friends, “You understand this decision? The duty you are undertaking?”

They answer in unison, “We do our queen.”

She nods, “May your work be swift. Aid my grand-daughter, your princess in her mission. Lend her your strength.” Her attention turns to you, “Be strong little one, and don’t forget to visit.”

I’m usually not one for long posts but this has been an awfully good year for me. Yes, it’s had it low points but the good of this year definitely out weighs the bad. I got to live in the mountains this summer. Meet and make friends with people all over the world that I’m still in contact with and have plans set up to visit them soon. I fell in love. Had my first heartbreak and found love again. I got to travel with someone that means the world to me and fall in love even more. My company turned 1 this year! I went vegan and have never been so happy in my entire life. I think the most important lesson I’ve learned this year is to let things happen naturally. What’s meant to be will be and you just have to go with the flow and enjoy life. Each person I met this year taught me a lesson and for that I’m thankful. I’m so excited for this next year. Traveling more, loving more, being more selfish with my time, reading more, writing more, and living more in the moment. Hope everyone has a fun New Years Eve! Stay safe ☺️ P.S. what was your guys favorite moment/memory of 2016??

I was raised Catholic and still practice the faith. I am 1000% pro-choice, pro-LGBT, and pro-women joining the priesthood. Because many members of the Church are either strongly against or uncomfortable with these stances, it sometimes leaves me frustrated. Especially with abortion, where people from my parish cannot even have open-minded, nuanced discussions about it, and it leaves me frustrated. They behave like hypocrites, despite calling themselves 'pro-life'. Do you have any facts, >>>

>>> articles, or writings from women of faith that would help reaffirm these stances?

Hi there! I don’t read many religious writers myself, so I’m not much of an expert on feminists of faith, but for Catholics I would recommend starting with Catholics For Choice.

“Catholics for Choice believes in a world where everyone has equal access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services - including access to safe and legal abortion services and affordable and reliable forms of contraception. CFC works to change the conversation regarding sexual and reproductive rights to one where the individual conscience of each person is recognized as the keystone of moral decision making.”

Hope that helps!
