i propose the design

So, a Water Tribe Betrothal Necklace is, traditionally, a hand-carved piece of jewelry given by a bride-to-be’s intended. It’s clear that a very traditional theme to have is a sense of roundness. This is shown by the first four necklaces shown.

The bottom two, Bolin’s, and Kya’s, differ highly from this, making them non-traditional. Now Bolin’s makes sense in the context we’re given from the show. Eska was shown to be slightly deranged and didn’t understand that Bolin wanted to get out of their relationship. The heavy-gothic themes help to show the dread, despair, and chain-like quality Bolin must feel. Despite this though, it still features a somewhat-round centerpiece like the traditional necklaces do.

But, Kya’s is also different. We found out via Word of God that Kya is LGBTA+. If she’s wearing a necklace, does this mean that her (assumed) wife carved it for her? Did Kya carve out one similarly for her wife?

I like to assume that the design Kya wears also symbolizes how her relationship is non-traditional, just as her necklace is.

Also don’t picture Korra and/or Asami carving and giving the other a necklace.

Sure, Keyleth and Grog are the kind of bosses you wouldn’t want to run into in the wild, and are easily the toughest party members to take down.

But if we’re going full video game boss here, may I propose the following:

In a lair he gets to design himself.

May Day May Day !

Today the sun is dancing after the late snow of the last few days. The temperature seems to be on the rise, finally. April was very cool and nothing much seemed to be happening in the garden very fast. But now, the forecasts look promising, and the garden is kicking into gear. I’m already there, revved up and running.

As you might have noticed, I haven’t been able to give Tumblr that much time. Since the few calmer weeks after the last school project ended in March, I have been given the first design assignment at work. My proposal for a bit of land art was approved. I’m very excited about it! The timetable is crazy — the plans should be ready and executable after a fortnight or so! And then I should be guiding the process of making it happen. Phew! This year seems to be turning into one of the busiest of my life. So, I won’t be able to check in here as often as I would like but I’ll try to keep posting pictures if nothing else.

Thank you to everyone following this mad dash! I so appreciate all the loyal friends and followers. I hope that the new followers will feel welcome at this quiet corner of the site. Each of you is important in your own way!

Thank you for all the reblogs, dear curators and rebloggers! You are all doing a great job in keeping the ball rolling whether you share, promote or hoard, or all of the above. :D And thank you everyone for the likes! I appreciate each and everyone of them!

Now let us all dance around the maypole and sing:
“In the woods there grew a tree
and a fine, fine tree was he…”

Lots of 💕,

Hey! It’s y’boy Jax!

As is the norm around here, your local artist is broke! This broke status is a big problem when I gotta buy important junk. So I’m taking on bundle commissions!

Hey buddy, what is a bundle commission?

It’s pretty basic, but basically, I’ll be packaging several things that individually would cost a lot and offer em together for a lot less than I should be offering. This time around, I’ll be offering them in the form of reference sheets like the four pictured above!

That’s three colored full body images and three colored headshots of a character. Color schemes and shape breakdowns as well~

Altogether, with my normal prices that all would run you roughly 180 bucks, but I’m only asking for  smooth 80 for all of it. Criminal, right?

80 dollars? Not bad! What do I have to do to get me hands on this deal?

Just contact me! You can do that either here on tumblr through ask or IM or email me at severalpugs@gmail.com! All you need to offer is a reference of your character and maybe some communication if the proposed design isn’t as fleshed out as I need it to be in order to work.

So do you offer this all the time?

No way! I don’t hate myself that much! This is a special situation so this is limited time and quantity. I’ll only be offering 10 of these for the time being!

What if I don’t want all of this work for a single character?

We’ll have to talk about that…

I don’t want all this

Normal commissions will be closed while I’m doing these bundles, but They’ll be open afterwards! So keep an eye open for when smaller packs are available!

I;m offering three fullbody pieces and three headshots of your characters as a bundle for 80 dollars. Only 10 available.

Thanks for reading, and if there are any other questions, let me know! If you’re not interested, please pass this around!

What people say: “Contrived thought experiments are dumb; they don’t have any relevance to real life.”

What I hear: “My ethical theory has serious problems when you extend it to unfamiliar situations; therefore I propose to limit the domain to situations where I have designed it to output the actions I wanted anyway.”

The “Skyclearer” is a collapsible carbine which, if produced, would require residual fragments of the primal Bismarck as a core component. The components are used to create a lens through which the users’ aether is channeled.

This aether is what gives the projectile its surprising power - unlike other collapsible designs, the “Skyclearer” does not need to sacrifice power for the sake of reducing the effect of recoil on the design - its frame is plenty sturdy to handle the recoil due to the innate effects taken from Bismarck’s powers.

When activated, the twin barrels extend. The design is visually very front-heavy, but the weight will be greatly lessened by the effects of Bismarck’s residual aether - allowing smooth, accurate fire at long range. The power of the bullets being channeled thusly is expected to be significantly above the levels shown by contemporary designs (see: the common blueprint for a Darksteel-Barreled Blunderbuss.), since recoil is not a concern - the gases of the escaping round are dissipated through the essence of the weapon and the user “feels” far less a blowback.

The efficiency of this design cannot be overstated - it manages to take an existing design and, with the application of the materials I have requested, go far above and beyond what would otherwise be possible. It can even achieve double the firepower while still being more accurate.

Design strengths:

  • High power - compared to a standard gun of similar size and calibre, this weapon has significantly increased punch.
  • Good accuracy - a redesign with a smaller bore and therefore smaller projectiles would result in even higher shot velocity and greater accuracy, but reduced stopping power. It is the opinion of this designer that that sacrifice is not worth the reward when the weapon is passably accurate already.
  • Very portable - When folded, it takes up far less space than any other weapon of this same level of stopping power.
  • Deceptively lightweight - Weighs about as much as a small sword, making it a perfectly acceptable sidearm.

Design weaknesses:

  • Reliability needs extensive testing - no Primal-based designs from this department have progressed beyond the planning stage at this time, and we cannot make conclusive claims about its reliability and longevity until we have a working prototype.
  • Bismarck is not easy to harvest material from - when we last fought it, I managed to retrieve what I believe to have been a sliver of the Primal’s baleen. It’s enough to make one prototype, but I cannot mass-produce the design without more and do not have the equipment to replicate it.
  • Design is very aether-hungry, even as far as Primal-based designs go, and therefore inadvisable to be used by inexperienced users - they may find wielding this weapon exhausting in short order. Further, it will require frequent monitoring - too much aether and the weapon will freeze, too little and it’s likely to overheat.

Recommended Priority: C-class. The materials here are just too rare to risk being wasted on a first attempt, but once the process has been polished I would upgrade this to an A-class. I think we can definitely find a use for this design.

Are you an in-character Riskbreaker*? Found a cool weapon you want an in-character justification for owning and a cool explanation for what sets it apart from other weapons of its type? Want something IC custom-made for you to use in Stormblood and beyond?

The Research and Development team has your back

*this service currently limited only to Riskbreakers. If everything goes well, it may be extended to Riskbreaker affiliates in the future. Keep an eye out!

Johnny Wander Omnibus cover: initial thumbnail & final design. (photoshop)

The Johnny Wander Omnibus kickstarter is coming to a close so I wanted to show off the cover process.  On top is the final sketch I proposed, below it is the final design that will be on the book!  I had a lot of fun drawing those cat heads but also HOO BOY THAT WAS A LOT OF CAT HEADS (there’s more on the spine and back cover as well!)

The kickstarter has NINE HOURS LEFT, so if you’d like to pick up the book, stickers, pins, or the coveted and beautiful Maw plush, now’s your chance!! ❤️

Specific criteria for the disorder of pedophilia extends the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13. Lolita was 12 when their “relationship” began. When it ends, she is 17, but if you recall, he isn’t physically attracted to her toward the end because she isn’t a child anymore and isn’t the nymphet of his dreams, but still loves her. When the book was published, he would fit the criteria of a pedophile: “sexual activity with a child or adolescent,” but in this day and age he would be considered a pedophile and a hebephile. If you recall, he himself explains he is attracted to nympehts -

“Now I wish to introduce the following idea. Between the age limits of nine and fourteen there occur maidens who, to certain bewitched travelers, twice or many times older than they, reveal their true nature which is not human, but nymphic (that is, demoniac); and these chosen creatures I propose to designate as “nymphets.”

“Nine and fourteen are the boundaries—the mirrory beaches and rosy rocks—of an enchanted island haunted by those nymphets…and surrounded by a vast, misty sea”

I think it’s fairly obvious the main focus on the book is Humbert Humbert being attracted to young girls, even though Lolita isn’t twelve throughout the book. Maybe I should have described it as “a man preying on a child” as opposed to pedophilia, but technically, he is still a pedophile throughout the book as he is attracted to children AND young teenagers, as he described his attraction to those ages nine to fourteen.

Just because the child an offending pedophile molested grows up, doesn’t make him less of a pedophile.

“And I thought to myself how those fast little articles forget everything, everything, while we, old lovers, treasure every inch of their nymphancy.”

“Humbert was perfectly capable of intercourse with Eve, but it was Lilith he longed for.”

Apologies for the essay, lol.
Theories about the Vallaslins

Some new musings about vallaslins while we’re waiting for marketing to finally provide us with actual canon references. (Long post ahoy, sorry!)

1) Right off the bat I’m gonna posit that we can say with a high level of certainty that those at the Temple of Mythal, “bound” to her service, would have her markings.

Now, this is one of the vallaslins that sparked many doubts because of how completely new it looks, except I submit to you that it is merely a heavy redesign of this one:

You can see how the patterns take up the same spaces, under the eyes, over the brow ridge, follow the same direction.

Now, I also know that the old theory was that these are halla horns which, of course, presents a whole new set of questions about Ghilan'nain.

2) Just to eliminate them from the start, I don’t think anyone has ever doubted that this vallaslin is Elgar'nan, what with him battling the sun and banishing it into a deep abyss, and “with the sun gone, the world was covered in shadow”: The dark vs. light motif seems pretty clear.

3) Same goes for Andruil, the Goddess of Hunt, creator of the Way of Three Trees: the Vir Assan, Way of the Arrow; the Vir Bor'assan, Way of the Bow; and the Vir Adahlen, Way of the Forest. An arrow, a bow and tree branches are clearly represented in this vallaslin:

4) Another easy pair to spot seems to be this one:

The overwhelming opinion being that it's June, God of the Craft, who “taught the People to bend the branches of trees to make our bows”.

None of the other remaining markings fit him as well as this one. It is possible that we have him and Andruil switched, however, because he is the one who teaches the Dalish to make arrows and to hunt Andruil’s gift, and this one may represent the Three Trees instead. (Oh, where art thou, marketing…)

5) Personally, this is a design I feel pretty confident about:

Now, I know that this new vallaslin is often connected with halla horns, as well as with the old design that I proposed for Mythal instead. I don’t feel either of the similarities.

Sylaise gave the Dalish fire (which was present in the DAO design but now isn’t) and, more importantly, taught them how to weave rope and thread. These woven knots are pretty apparent in the new design, and we can see the similar knots in DAO on the forehead. Plus the semi-circle arc going from one brow to another seem to indicate a vague similarity in designs.

6) Now, as for Ghilan'nain and the halla horns…

I am not at all certain about this. It was more of a process of elimination thing than anything else.

Honestly, the image on their foreheads does remind me of a halla’s head, has that deer quality to it. And the markings on the face make me think of how she was blinded by the jealous hunter and how those are her blood and tears.

Another likely scenario: I have no idea what I’m talking about, this entire theory is rubbish.

7 & 8) The remaining two I am on the fence about.

As you can see, they definitely do not look like anything to do with the hallas, which is why the former conclusion.

However, which one is Dirthamen and which one is Falon'Din

The original theory is that the upper design, particularly the DAO one, has a book on their forehead to represent knowledge, and Dirthamen is  the god of knowledge and a keeper of secrets

Another theory is that two ravens are beholden to Dirthamen, and the shape of it seems to now occupy the DAI design of the lower vallaslin.

And then there’s this phrase from Falon'Din’s codex: And so we learned to lay our loved ones to rest with an oaken staff, to keep them from faltering along the paths, and a cedar branch, to scatter the ravens named Fear and Deceit who were once servants of Dirthamen, now without a master.”

I would peg the upper for Dirthamen, the lower for Falon'Din myself.

EDIT: We now have an official resource for DA:I valasslins, and I know I have misattributed some of them, although I’m still pretty proud of my correct guesses. And point is: I am still adamant that visually my correlation is the correct one.
