Memorization Tips

Hey guys! Here’s a collection of all the tips I use on a regular basis to help with memorization. Three things before we start. One, keep in mind that this is mostly geared towards both visual and auditory learners. Two,, I’ll use Biology examples, but these tips can be applied to a variety of subjects. Three, when I talk about drawing, 5-year-old level doodles will do just fine. So, I hope you find these helpful!

  1. Draw pictures of what you have to remember – break up whatever word you need to remember, associate each part with something, draw that something. Ex: thermogenin, you draw a thermos and inside of it, you draw a gene (as in, you draw a chromosome and shade a small part of it). This is my ultimate foolproof method for remembering vocabulary.

  2. Make each page memorable. You can use colors, draw little arrows, make doodles, even if they are irrelevant to the subject you’re studying. Making each page unique will stimulate your visual memory and you’ll be more likely to remember things (this is why I personally include pictures of structures if I’m rewriting my biology notes on my laptop, otherwise, it’s pages and pages of text blocks and it all blurrs together in your mind)

  3. Test fonts. Times New Roman in size 12 is the easiest font for our brain to process. There are studies that show that information written in fonts that are smaller and harder to read is actually more likely to be remembered. If you’re a visual learner, this is probably not true for you, I, for example, remember info best in Times New Roman 12, so that’s the font I print all my notes in. Try printing three paragraphs of information (two different pieces of information that you’ve never gone over and that is easy to understand, needing only memorization) in both styles and test yourself to see which one you remember better.

  4. When you have to learn a process, visualize it, picture it in your mind, you’ll understand it a lot better than just repeating the steps in words. If a proteín is recognized by the cytoplasmic membrane and then enters in through a pore, imagine it happening. If you can’t picture something, such as structures, look them up on google images.

  5. Sticky notes. Need to memorize a formula? Write it down on a post it note, stick it on the cover of a notebook/book and force yourself to recall the formula whenever you have to use said notebook. Check whether you got it right. If you didn’t, look at it, repeat it out loud. Try again next time.

  6. Highlighter and annotations symbiosis. Don’t stop using highlighters, you still want them to mark important parts of the text. However, if what you want is to stay present while you study, the best method is to go through a paragraph and then write in the margin whatever you understood. This is not really useful in subjects like Biology (because you basically can’t summarize all that much, everything is important) but it’s perfect for more logical subjects like math or chemistry. I find it especially useful in summarizing formula deductions - instead of writing the steps in numbers and symbols, write them out in words, you’ll remember it much better.

  7. Get the whole picture. Every time you come across a piece of information that relates back to something you’ve already learnt, recall that whole other topic. It’s a great way to review.

  8. Rewrite your notes, don’t recopy them. By this, I don’t mean “put it in your own words” because you probably have already done that in your original notes (if you just copy what comes out of your professor’s mouth word by word in class, don’t, it’s not doing you any good). What I mean is, if you’re taking the time to rewrite them, you may as well reorganize them. Have to memorize a bunch of facts about a type of cell? Group them together. Which ones refer to its functions, which ones are related to its shape and size and contents? Put those together. If you don’t know how to regroup them just by looking at your notes, read through these and underline facts in the same category with the same color. You’ll be surprised.

  9. Try to link facts or concepts when rewriting your notes. Ex: Don’t write

“-Meristematic cells primary function is to divide.

    -They have little cytoplasm.

    -They have few organelles.”

But: ”Meristematic cells primary function is to divide. That’s why they don’t need to have a lot of organelles or cytoplasm.“

Following this same line of thought, when highlighting, highlight only the ‘main’ point. The consequences or everything related should stem from there.

  10. Say it yourself This method consists of reading two/three paragraphs, making annotations if necessary and then repeating these paragraphs to yourself OUT LOUD. You’re not repeating things like a parrot, you’re putting the information into your own words. This is the main method that I’ve been using since I got my first textbook and I was honestly so shocked when I saw that people usually study in silence. It makes the information stick so much better, but forget about libraries and oh boy, when you get to college be prepared to get creative with your study spaces if you have a roommate.

  11. Make flashcards of vocabulary. If a month from now you’re asked to explain a theory or a process you’ve already studied, you’ll probably be able to recall the main idea. If you’re asked to explain a certain term/vocabulary word, the chances of you remembering it are… well, slim. So, even if the moment you’re studying it you’re convinced you will remember it, make the flashcard anyway. Oh, and remember the ‘drawing pictures for vocabulary’ thing? Draw those on the back of the flashcards.

Figure Skating Charms and a Wealth of Nuance

Haha…so…*guiltily posts this months later* I had this in my drafts 70% completed since episode 10 came out, but with episode 11 and 12 the fandom exploded on other issues, and I thought it was kind of irrelevant since the rings have so many layers of meaning already. But in PASH magazine’s March issue, Kubo-sensei actually brings this up.

I ended up cleaning this post and after finding out that @sachiro was going to make a similar post, we decided to have “pair posts” to submit for victuuriweek. You can read their yoi meta here , which discusses and connects specific moments throughout the series to the points I’ll lay out in the second half of this post.

About Yuuri’s charm. Yuuri has a figure skating precedent for buying jewelry to act as a charm - it isn’t a blasé “lots of good stuff around here…yeah, rings can make good charms, right? idk, but I’m doing it anyway.” Here’s yet another layer.

Charms are a legitimate THING in figure skating.

You won’t read about this in figure skating intros or on Wikipedia, and you won’t hear commentators talk about it either (if it’s brought up, consider it a stroke of luck and immediately save that video/interview forever). Unless you follow skaters to the point of knowing about their personal lives, then this is one meaningful aspect of figure skating that is easy to miss.

Epic Movie (Re)Watch #161 - Star Trek Beyond

(GIF originally posted by @forquicksilver)

Spoilers Below

Have I seen it before: Yes

Did I like it then: Yes.

Do I remember it: Yes.

Did I see it in theaters: Yes.

Was it a movie I saw since August 22nd, 2009: Yes. #440

Format: Blu-ray

1) The preproduction for this film was slightly troubled. JJ Abrams was committed to Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens so co-writer of the first two films Robert Orci signed on as director. He ended up leaving production though, taking his cinematographer with him, and it was a little while before Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 3 - 6) was hired to replace him. Writers Simon Pegg and Doug Jung reportedly wrote the script in a bit of a hurry as they still had a release date to meet. But at the end the film turned out really well, so everything worked out in the end.

2) This film was released during the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.

Having said that, the work done by writers Pegg and Jung as well as Lin’s direction I think help to make the film feel like a balance between old Trek and new Trek. I’ll get into more details on that as I go along.

3) The opening scene.

The opening has an incredible sense of fun and humor to it (with the aliens Kirk is trying to break peace with seemingly gigantic and ending up being the size of a chihuahua) and honestly feels like it could be the concept of an episode for the original “Star Trek” TV show (says the guy who’s never seen an episode of the original series). It establishes some of the lighter/funner tone this film will feature compared to the titular darkness of Into Darkness as well as Kirk’s initial conflict in the film. It is a wonderful beginning.

4) Kirk’s tiredness.

Kirk is three years into his five year mission in space (which, in a not-so-coincidental-way, is how long the original series got before cancellation) and it is starting to weigh on him.

Kirk [in his captain’s log]: “As for me things have started to feel a little…episodic.”

There’s no direction in space, it is just infinite and that is starting to weigh on Kirk. It has him questioning the point of it all. It has him questioning who he is.

Kirk [after commenting he’s now a year older on his birthday]: “A year older than [my father] got to be. He joined Starfleet because he believed in it. I joined on a dare.”

Bones: “You joined to see if you could live up to him. [Mentions how Kirk has spent all this time trying to be like his dad.] Now you’re wondering what it means to be Jim.”

And it is through the fire of conflict in this film that Kirk will reclaim his identity and who exactly he is.

5) The release of this film was given an unexpected dose of sorrow as actor Anton Yelchin tragically passed away about a month before the film’s release.

There is a scene early in the film where Bones and Kirk drink some Scotch they found in Chekov’s locker. They pour three glasses, the third one being for “absent friends” (as in those we’ve lost who could not be here now). The absent friend I believe was meant to be Kirk’s later father, who the pair are talking about. But in the wake of Anton Yelchin’s passing the scene takes on a much more somber meaning and feels more like a tribute to him. After the film’s release I read on IMDb that the scene was included to pay tribute to Yelchin, but I can no longer find that piece of trivia suggesting it may have been false. Either way, it is impossible to divorce Chekov from that scene or the unintended tribute it pays to the late actor. I’m going to miss seeing you in the movie, Anton.

6) Yorktown.

Yorktown is quite possibly the stand out new element introduced into the film. The space station/outpost/colony/whatever is visually outstanding. Most space stations in film are defined by rigid edges and sharp boundaries but Yorktown is circular. It’s fluid, it’s organic, it moves into and through each other like a planet. Some of the camera tricks and technical aspects used to show off this new location is great. It also has an incredible atmosphere to it which ties directly into the sense of hope this franchise is all about. The air is clean, the sky is bright, multiple alien species are working in unity, and Giacchino’s again excellent score just lifts up the sense of optimism that bleeds through this place. It is a wonderful addition to not only this film but Trek lore as a whole.

7) This film introduces what I believe is Star Trek’s first canon gay character by revealing that John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu is in a partnership with another man.

(GIF originally posted by @maclexa-bane)

However, this decision had one person surprisingly against it. Original Sulu actor and LGBT activist George Takei himself. Here is an excerpt from an article covering this in the Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m delighted that there’s a gay character,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.”

Takei would take to social media a week later to clarify - but not disavow - his statement.

“I hoped instead that [Star Trek creator] Gene Roddenberry’s original characters and their backgrounds would be respected. How exciting it would be instead if a new hero might be created, whose story could be fleshed out from scratch, rather than reinvented. To me, this would have been even more impactful.”

I personally disagree with Takei. As a film student I can say that there seems to be this strange devotion to the “vision” of something. A decision will or won’t be made based on its support of the “original vision”. The original vision of something is almost totally irrelevant to what something actually is, however. Takei’s statements seem to be largely out of his respect for original creator Gene Rodenberry, which I can understand. But imagine some gay kid today LOVES the Star Trek movies and its characters. That kid is not going to care about Gene Rodenberry’s original vision, he is going to care about what Star Trek is today. I think seeing an already established (and incredibly important character) like Sulu express his sexuality in an open and accepted way is very much in line with what Star Trek is today (and will also have more of an impact on that kid than introducing a new character who they have no emotional investment in, but that’s just my personal belief).

The franchise has transcended Rodenberry or any one person involved. It is about unity (a major theme in this film), diversity, tolerance, and hope. And as long as it respects these core beliefs which make Star Trek what it is than I think it does more than respect Rodenberry’s original vision. It respects Star Trek.

8) I am going to talk about Spock and Uhura’s breakup and Spock Prime’s death, I promise. Just later.

9) Even though JJ Abrams did NOT direct this film, Greg Grunberg is still featured in it!

Grunberg is JJ Abrams’ lucky charm, appearing in almost all his films (notably absent from Star Trek into Darkness) in one form or another. And even though Abrams serves only as producer on this flick Grunberg still gets a part. Yay!

10) I like that Commodore Paris (one of the Starfleet higher ups at Yorktown) takes the time to say this to Kirk:

Commodore Paris: “It isn’t uncommon you know, even for a captain. To want to leave.”

It’s a common problem people have in life, the loss of identity. And of course it makes sense that it happens to Starfleet officers. Nothing is defined in space. It’s just space.

11) The skirmish between Kraal’s crew and the Enterprise is great.

As a way of introducing the primary plot into the film, it shows a clear lack of preparedness on the part of the Enterprise crew which is a great place to start the conflict and move forward. A, “started from the bottom,” type way. The film opening with such a heavy thrashing and the destruction of the Enterprise leaves a strong impact on the audience. You know these bad guys are people you do not want to mess with, you don’t even want to be in the same room as them. They just took down one of the best starships ever in a matter of minutes. The scene features great action, nice surprises, and is incredibly well paced. As the first major action set piece for the film, it is truly great.

12)

Kirk: “Abandon ship, Mr. Sulu.”

There is literally NO question from Sulu and only a the hesitation needed to process that request. He doesn’t even say, “Sir?” There’s no doubt in his mind. That is how much he trusts his captain and that is how well he knows his ship to admit when it’s done.

13) Idris Elba as Krall.

I will forever be upset that Suicide Squad won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling when this film is PACKED with some of the most amazing practical creatures and aliens I have seen in years. You don’t have to look any further than Krall to see that. Idris Elba is not giving an animated performance, he’s not motion capture (not to knock motion capture actors, they’re some of the most under appreciated geniuses in Hollywood). That’s him. He is able to deliver a menacing and powerful performance through strong physicality. Elba does not play Krall as human and he shouldn’t. A huge factor for the character is that he’s lost his humanity. He is a beastly shade of his former self, motivated only by madness. I think Krall may be the best villain of this new trilogy (although it’s hard for me to be objective because Nero is still my favorite). Honestly, Elba freaking kills it as Krall and I don’t think they could have cast anyone to do a better job.

From a writing standpoint, Krall just gets more and more interesting as the film goes on.

Krall [after Uhura claims he has made an act of war against the federation]: “Federation act of war!”

But more on this later.

14) This film benefits from unique groupings for a good part of the film. Bones/Spock are the most prominent, but it’s not often you get to see Kirk and Chekov interact one-on-one or Uhura and Sulu. But for now, let’s talk about Bones & Spock.

I don’t think Bones and Spock get as much one on one time as they do in this film and I am so grateful for that. It provides a unique examination of their usually humorously tense interactions which was touched upon in The Search for Spock. I’ll discuss this more as I go (in one scene in particular), but they are able to be vulnerable around each other. Let their guards down, be totally honest, and make their friendship even stronger.

15) Sofia Boutella as Jaylah.

I fucking love Jaylah. So much. I want more Jaylah.

To start, her design is incredibly unique and memorable. It helps her standout from not only the rest of the Enterprise crew but the rest of the inhabitants on the planet as well. And from the strong visual you are able to build into a living, breathing, unique character. She fits into the crew dynamics (particularly through her relationship with Scotty) wonderfully well and she is a kick ass queen. She is a technical genius with no training or teaching, able to set up a number of booby traps/cloak the Franklin/keep auxiliary power going. She has this deep pain that is in direct relation to Kirk’s. Her father - her entire family - died trying to save her, just as Kirk’s did. She has fears, she has strengths, she loves punk music! Jaylah on paper is amazing and actress Sofia Boutella is incredible in the part. Boutella is able to portray all of Jaylah’s wonderful layers - her badass exterior, her painful past, her growth and dealing with her fears - beautifully. Boutella is a star on the rise in Hollywood (already having starred in Kingsman and appearing as the title character in the new Mummy film coming out soon) and to date this is - I think - her best performance. She is just SO good.

A quick final note: it has been said by the filmmakers that they will not be recasting Chekov after Anton Yelchin’s death. I want Jaylah to take his place on the bridge. Because I fucking love Jaylah.

16) The relationship Jaylah and Scotty forge is so fun and heartfelt. Jaylah is able to constantly surprise Scotty and show that she’s his equal in a lot of ways, but when it comes to the pain of her past Scotty is able to help her deal with that. It’s one of my favorite relationships explored in the film and I hope to see it continue in the future.

17) The relationship with Kirk and Chekov is explored a little more subtly than say Bones and Spock but it is still there. The fact that Kirk is able to signal Chekov to help him trap the traitor amongst their midsts, and then of course this wonderful piece of dialogue.

(GIFs originally posted by @alecc-bane)

Seeing any two characters have this back and forth suggests they’ve done it before. There’s a comfort there that Chekov is able to talk to Kirk so honestly about his doubts and…I’m sorry, I’m just laughing thinking about this scene. I love the exchange between the pair.

18) So it later turns out that Krall is a captain named Edison from VERY early in the Federation’s life span.

Krall: “Federation has taught you that conflict should not exist.”

Krall [MUCH later]: “We knew pain, we knew terror. Struggle made us strong. Not peace, not unity.”

He is an outdated relic, an ancient ideology in a progressive time who thinks HIS way of life was right. And he’s willing to commit mass genocide because of his outdated and hateful ways. There’s also a lose of identity there, as he tells Kirk in the climax, “I’ve missed being me.” That lose of identity in the face of infinite space is exactly what Kirk is at risk of going through, so there’s a connection there between the two that ties back in to Kirk’s main conflict (something that I love). All in all, Krall’s pain is utterly unique in the Star Trek films I’ve seen and I am impressed with the elegance they were able to write it.

19) Spock and Bones having a heart-to-heart about where Spock is in life is one of the best scenes in the film.

It is in this moment when Spock is at his most vulnerable, and it’s with Bones. He speaks as to how being one of the last Vulcan’s effects him, how it was that and the death of Spock-Prime which upset him so deeply he even broke up with Uhura because he thought he had to. He’s planning on leaving Starfleet. But Bones is an excellent friend in this scenes, listening to Spock and offering some kind non-judgmental words. He even gets Spock to laugh! It’s a great moment between these two characters who have been around for 50 years and I think one of the best character moments in all of Trek.

20) Did I mention I love Jaylah?

Jaylah [about her punk music]: “I like the beats and shouting!”

21) If I haven’t made it clear before, this film has some very well done humor. I think this is largely a result of Simon Pegg’s work on the script, but it wouldn’t have worked if cowriter Doug Jung hadn’t worked with him on it. Some examples…

Scotty: “I have an idea sir, but I’ll need your permission.”

Kirk: “Why would you need my permission?”

Scotty: “Because if I mess it up I don’t want it to be just my fault.”

22) So 2009′s Star Trek was about Kirk and Spock moving past their conflict to form a respect and kinship with each other. Star Trek Into Darkness had them solidifying their friendship. And now we’ve reached this point:

Spock [while severely injured]: “We will do what we’ve always done, Jim: find hope in the impossible.”

23) I think something the filmmakers really use to their advantage is taking problems and solving them in a creative way through the sci-fi genre (where aliens are a norm and we have artificial gravity and such). A brilliant example of this:

(GIFs originally posted by @trek-daily)

Also this is all practical makeup. Did I mention this film lost the makeup and hairstyling award to Suicide Squad? I’m bitter.

24) The funniest freaking part of the entire movie!

25) I know I mentioned this before, but Jaylah’s past trauma with her family is incredibly strong for me.

Jaylah [talking about Krall’s hostage camp; refusing to take Kirk and company to their crew]: “Everyone who goes there he kills!”

And it is just another great example of the relationship Scotty and Jaylah have made.

Kirk [after Jaylah leaves & Scotty moves to go after her]: “Let her go.”

Scotty: “She’s lost people too, Captain.”

The fact that Scotty is able to help Jaylah through her grief in a respectful but pressing way speaks a lot to me. And Kirk overhears this, specifically that Jaylah’s dad sacrificed himself for her. Hmm, why does that sound familiar?

The entire scene is great for me for those key reasons: it develops Jaylah, it strengths her relationship with Scotty, and it ties into Kirk’s conflict in the film.

26) The entire diversion/rescue scene on the motorcycle is awesome and one of the strongest set pieces in the entire film. It is brilliantly and intelligently choreographed, keeping the audience and Krall on their toes through the use of decoy projections. It also features a fight between Jaylah and Mannix which ties directly into her arc as he is the man who killed her father. And Kirk - who said to, “Let her go,” about ten minutes earlier - risks himself to save her. She’s a part of his crew now and I love that.

27) Remember how in the 2009 Star Trek Sulu messed up the take off of the Enterprise the first time? Well, I think the phrase, “started from the bottom now we’re here,” applies perfectly to this moment.

30) I just love Jaylah’s face when she sees Krall’s planet drift away in the distance. That place was her hell. Her family was murdered there. She never thought she’d be able to escape. And now…

31) Ladies & gentlemen: the most badass moment in Star Trek’s 50 year history.

Some highlights:

  • Kirk saying, “That’s a good choice,” tying directly into Young Kirk rocking out to this song in the 2009 film.
  • Bones: “Is that classical music?”
  • Chekov toe tapping.
  • Just how f***ing awesome that moment is. It gets you pumped!

I don’t know who had the initial idea to put this scene in the film, but I love them and I want to give them an award or something. This is glorious.

32) The climactic fist fight between Kirk and Krall is a lot of fun. Similar to Syl’s alien head hiding an important piece of technology, the filmmakers are able to use the concept of artificial gravity in a space station to their advantage by choreographing a unique and fun fight scene.

33) And with this Kirk resolves his conflict of identity in relation to his father.

Kirk: “Better to die saving lives than to live taking them. That’s what I was born into.”

34) I love that Kirk says this but for a weird personal reason. It’s something I learned as a film student and something I wish other directing students (and a lot of professional directors) would learn.

Kirk [after Commodore Paris says he saved the lives of everyone in Yorktown]: “It wasn’t just me. It never is.”

35) Holy shit, I honestly cannot believe I forgot that Spock found this in Spock Prime’s belongings:

Not only is this a wonderful thing to include in the 50th anniversary of Star Trek but also it is something Spock REALLY needed to see. He wanted to live the life Spock Prime did and he thought that meant continuing the work on new Vulcan. But then he sees that Spock Prime was with the Enterprise crew DECADES into a future. He had a family for life. And so does Spock.

36) It’s hard for your eyes not to fall on Anton Yelchin when Kirk makes a toast, “To the Enterprise and to absent friends.”

37) The fact that the entire main crew of the Enterprise gives the ending monologue for the first time speaks greatly to themes of unity present in the film and Kirk’s giving them credit.

38) And now I’m sad again.

39) “Sledgehammer” by Rihanna.

It’s not often that I talk about an end credits song for a film, but I felt I should make an exception this case. Rihanna is a major Star Trek fan, saying:

“This is something that’s been a part of me since my childhood, it’s never left me, I love Star Trek. It was automatic. I would do anything in terms of music. It’s such a big deal not only as a fan, as a musician… because Star Trek is such a big deal across the globe.”

You can feel the love for Trek come across in the song. Not necessarily a radio pop hit, I love this song nonetheless. I find it moving and it’s themes of fighting back after you get knocked down very much tie into the hope and resilience which is Star Trek. I think it is a wonderful composition and a great addition to the Star Trek musical library.

I love Star Trek Beyond. Although the 2009 film introduced me to the franchise, this film has the potential overtime to claim its place as my favorite Trek film. It is an absolutely perfect balance of old and new Trek, featuring standout writing, amazing effects, new ideas, a vibrant visual design, and a standout cast (with special mention to Sofia Boutella as Jaylah). It is a totally wonderful that taps into the hope and sense of adventure that the series has always been about. If you were disappointed with Star Trek Into Darkness or are looking to reclaim some love for the series - or even if you’re watching for the first time - give this film a viewing. You won’t regret it.

A Theory

(Gif: Catelyn Stark from Game of Thrones. ESFJ.)

I brought up something the other day in my Margaret Beaufort profile I’ve been thinking about, and wanted to expound on more in-depth: namely, a lot of  fictional characters are not good representations of the type, but a stereotyped representation based on what another type thinks that type looks like.

For example, a low thinker cannot think in the same way as a high thinker, until they understand cognition and what high thinking does; even then, their own mindset will give them a certain bias, in favor of higher feeling. In the same way, a low intuitive cannot write a high intuitive accurately, because they cannot understand how a high intuitive processes information. The same works in reverse, where intuitive are likely not able to authentically represent high sensors, due to their own low sensing.

This raises the speculation that a lot of the extreme cases of a “stereotypical” character are in fact… based on a lower function’s perception of what that function might look like, in a dominant position.

If this is the case, here’s what would and probably does, happen:

Ne-doms: flighty, erratic, shallow, eccentric, and bubbly instead of: extremely broad, changeable, deep, not-quick to form strong opinions, able to adapt quickly to new information, and with profound “intuitive” insights into what is really going on with people, events, and things

Se-doms: reckless, hedonistic, risk-taking, careless super heroes instead of: opportunistic, quick to adapt, observational, intent on affecting immediate change through sensory approaches, and “in tune” with the environment

Te-doms: controlling, oppressive, bossy, ruthless, logical instead of: makes decisions to achieve a tangible result, logical observations, a business-oriented mindset, and an emphasis on high work standards, and bottom lines

Fe-doms: overly emotional, controlling, emotionally manipulative busybodies instead of: emotional depth and control, the desire to connect with people, a natural instinct in finding “ways we are alike” (rather than different), and strong and forthright moral opinions

Ni-doms: rigid and single-minded, long-term goal makers, psychics instead of: open-minded, fluid in their opinions, indecisive, inclined to build visionary ideas about the future, tends to “symbolize” everything, with profound “intuitive” insights into motives

Si-doms: old-fashioned, stuck in the past, traditionalists, hates change instead of: has a strong and natural ability to recognize how things work and how to achieve things in the real world, prefers to orient their sensory world to likes and dislikes, uses past experience and similar experiences when making decisions or approaching new projects

Ti-doms: analytical, eccentric and/or bad-ass, nitpickers instead of: sometimes rigid system-builders who care about precision and both care about and deeply understand how things work

Fi-doms: highly emotional, irrational, easily hurt, does whatever they want, regardless of how others feel about it / you’re not the boss of me instead of: sensitive, emotionally intelligent people with strong ethics and moral standards, incapable of violating their standards of  right and wrong

Since intuitives originated, theorized and continued to explore and expound MBTI, a lot of the sensor profiles online are written by intuitive types, which explains not only their subtle anti-sensor bias (the dull descriptions, the poor understanding of what sensing does, in reducing it to banality) but also real sensors’ inability to self-recognize in the profiles (since… that’s not real sensing being described, but a theory of what sensing is, by an intuitive who scorns sensing). The further emphasis on behavior, rather than thinking process, leads to even more confusion … and mistypes.

In an ideal world, descriptions of cognitive functions would be written by the people who use them, enabling less “theorizing” (from other types, who have a bias) and more “actuality” in terms of helping others understand how a function works. When a high Ti user recently explained to me his Ti “must categorize everything before I even deal with it; what kind of a sweater is it? It’s not just any sweater, it’s a Cardigan!” a light bulb went on over my head, and for the first time I started to comprehend actual high Ti.

The same thing happened to me, when a high Te user explained to me the thought process of Te: if it has no intrinsic value in the real world, it is irrelevant – in other words, a Te villain needs a Te-reason to be evil – he never does anything “to mess with people” – that’s poor Fe; but to “gain from it” (financially, perhaps? To increase his power, so that he can achieve greater things? What PURPOSE does this action serve? What does it gain me?).

I’m not sure what I hope to gain from this post, except… this is my thought process at the moment. Sometimes, a fictional character tells you more about the mind of the person writing it than it tells you about actual cognitive processes. The shallow, immature, or irrational behaviors of some characters are not the behaviors to expect from a mature, real person of that type; they are a stereotype, based on what someone with poor usage (or even scorn for) that sequence of functions thinks that “kind” of a person looks like.

In other words: real ENFPs are not “manic pixie dream girls.” Sorry, sensor boys, those girls are your idealized concept of what the “perfect” girl looks like, to get you out of your rut – but she doesn’t exist. And all INTJs are not rigid, narrow-minded geniuses. Nor are all ESTPs reckless assholes who don’t care who they hurt. Or all INFJs prophets.

You can fill in the rest.

okay, hi. it’s me—the annoyance in this fandom. and i’d like to talk about something, so bear with me.

there’s a problem in this fandom that doesn’t need to be discussed. why not? it’s not up for discussion, basically. it’s up to you all to sit back and learn that this shit you all are pulling needs to be stopped. period.

i’m breaking it up to a couple of core parts so you all know what i’m talking about.

first of all, let’s talk about the islamophobia and racism in this fandom.

here’s the deal: shut up and listen. is that too hard? then just shut up and close your browser. delete your blog. take a walk. go on with your shitty life.

i don’t know why this needs to be explained—seriously. i don’t understand it. it’s not physics or the study of runes. it’s the basic thing called logic thinking and common decency at the least.

you’re all doing something incredibly harmful and it’s not okay. when you started calling a brown character a rat i—i thought it was a joke. and when it was pointed out it’s racist, by people of colour in this fandom, you kept doing it. why? do you take enjoyment in calling brown people rats? do you think you can get away with it? guess you can, but you can stop doing it to people of colour. it’s disgusting.

next. the idea of this season is: please don’t let me be misunderstood. the reverse of this? please don’t let me be understood. just so we’re clear. there’s no reverse. the song was in reverse, the message was clear. so you can shut up about that.

so when the fight broke up, and sana was hiding in the bathroom stall, what did we hear? the two white random, irrelevant white girls talking about how they thought (assumed, didn’t know but talked anyway) it was about homosexuality, and how muslims are homophobic. was it there for the lols? no. it was there for us. to know. that it wasn’t about that.

my point: shut the fuck up about it. it’s tiresome, getting old, it’s toxic. if you keep talking about this, you’re spreading harmful messages to others. what messages? that muslims are homophobic. which they can be, i’m not saying some aren’t. i’m saying that that’s not the point of this season and that non-muslims are equally likely to be homophobic. don’t believe me? wow, i guess it’s something that has been fed to you by media representation and… dare i say it? people talking shit of shit they don’t know on social platforms. precisely what you’re doing right now.

second thing we need to talk about: the series. yes! let’s talk about what content we have right now and why us people of colour and why muslims are upset, shall we? (note: we have all the right to be upset.)

let’s first get this out of the way: we know it’s written this way to prove some point later on in the season. probably something along the lines of muslim and brown boys not all being homophobic and shit. you know. that thing you keep shutting your eyes from. we understand that, we know that.

we’re just. not. happy. about how it’s written. it’s kind of doing a lot of damage right now. look at some of the messages some people (people of colour, muslims, muslim people of colour) receive. and what we should be getting is much more healthy scenes between muslims, muslims and people of non-faith, people of colour and white people, to weigh up to the damage its doing. we don’t get that much of that. and it’s frustrating, because we understand why (sana’s lonely) but there are so many ways to portray loneliness than completely erase healthy interactions between people on the fucking screen.

don’t bring up the hei briskeby videos, because they don’t count. i’m talking about the real episodes here. the real clips. the clips that the casual viewer will watch.

so yes. the series itself is… partially at fault here. the writing, i would say. especially filming only the people of colour in a fight and—wow. that chokehold they had on the only black guy? yikes.

what’s worse is that they surely know—or at least have a slight idea—of what outbreak their clips will give. and they keep doing it. keep feeding this shit to us, and leave us to either deal with it, or completely shut down our inboxes. which results into people thinking we’re selfish, because we don’t answer their wish to learn more about culture and islam and the experiences people of colour have.

third thing we need to talk about: vilde and noora. yup. i’m putting them on the agenda.

i, as a lesbian of colour, wholeheartedly believe that vilde’s character is poorly written this season. she’s obviously not too different from earlier seasons, but she’s definitely had more emphasis on her ignorance, and how that ignorance is dealt with is—less acceptable. i do believe, on top of that, that she will be “redeemed” (i’m just not sure i’ll buy into it) and that she will learn, apologise and maybe grow the last episode or something, since we won’t be getting any more.

but what bugs me the most about the way they’re writing her this season is that, she’s coded as possibly lesbian (or bi, if you prefer, but i’m gonna talk about her being lesbian, and you can make your own post about her being bisexual). and she’s literally the only character fully coded this way. if you’re interested in why, just… google it. believe it or not, we aren’t google. but the key point is that she is doing a lot of what us lesbians perceive as compulsory heterosexuality. and they completely villainised a potential lesbian this season which is just falling into the same shit people have done over and over again. lesbians are bad, lesbians are racist, lesbians are this and fucking that and that pisses me off. if, by the off chance, she eventually is canonically declared as lesbian, i’m not sure i will rejoice or throw my phone through my computer screen. they ruined her character to me, they ruined a (coded) lesbian to me, a lesbian, simply because they wanted to put her to be the ignorant girl who keeps shitting all over sana.

and noora. man. i’m not too mad about noora as a character herself. she’s flawed, she has her good moments and shit. but she takes up so much of her own storyline from sana’s. it’s a mess. she’s talking about herself, her problems with dickhelm, and sure, that’s what friends do—talk about what bothers you. but we’re so frustrated that she’s once again on the screen, talking about the same old thing, and rip the minutes that could’ve been spent on sana from our hands.

don’t get me wrong. we all know that sana is a listener. but there’s a line. and they jump over it, time and time again.

and then there’s the misogyny in this fandom that needs to be addressed. and this is a harder one, because it’s hard to spot.

during the course of season three—up to this day, i see this shit—people keep shitting on sonja and emma for no other reason than them being girls who got hurt in the process. sonja? remember her? she got cheated on. and while even kept saying he felt controlled by her you somehow got the idea that she’s toxic. she isn’t. a toxic relationship would not end with isak thanking sonja for the help she’s given. she knows even and—well, at the most, she might have been a bit controlling because she doesn’t understand that even is his own person with or without his bipolar disorder.

and emma? she outed isak, which is fucked up and there’s no excuse. but stop thinking she’s the absolute villain to isak’s life because she’s a girl, who got hurt, in the process. accept that, move on, because isak sure did.

you thought i’d end there? really? nope. ain’t gonna happen. i’m gonna bring up vilde specifically again.

you think she’s just a dumb ignorant islamophobe? partially true. she’s islamophobic and is not a good friend to sana. she’s ignorant, yes. but you’re reducing her character to something she isn’t. you’re reducing her to the blonde dumb girl, which is just as shitty as people defending her islamophobic behaviour. her islamophobia does not correlate to her dealing with whatever she’s dealing with (compulsory heterosexuality, if you will), but if you reduce her to a two-dimensional character it’s quite misogynistic itself. if you’re woman and doing that—check yourself in the mirror.

same goes for noora, basically, but i don’t think anyone is genuinely despising her for anything else than the shitty line here and there and the serious screentime she’s clocking.

we also had a run in with the lovely subjects of biphobia and ableism too. you all can’t stop anywhere, can you?

since we aren’t discussing, let me just point out these things:

bisexuality does not equate to cheater. a cheater can be of any sexuality. the stereotype is that bisexual people are cheaters is harmful and it ends here. whether a bisexual person/character has cheated can be discussed without bringing in their bisexuality to the conversation.

and mental illness… it seems it’s harder for you to grasp this part. so let me put it this way: think of the most embarrassing shit you’ve done. called your teacher mum and everyone laughed? peed yourself in public? pretended to talk on the phone and your phone ended up ringing? whatever. the most embarrassing shit you’ve done. think of that. feel what you felt at that point. oh my god, what did people think of you?

do you want your crush or your partner of a few months know… that? say it involved a second person. say you… shat yourself on your best friend’s expensive, newly bought couch, felt so embarrassed you left the house and deleted all your social media and never answered their calls.

say your partner brings them up.

would you… tell them that?

i don’t mean to trivialise mental illness here (i’m struggling with my own). it’s much more complex (guilt, self-blaming, embarrassment, sadness) than what i’m saying here. i’m just breaking it down to a point where hopefully even the most abled person can understand.

you’re expecting someone who deals with this every day to just tell their partner. it’s not that easy. it’s a lot of compartmentalising that needs to be done, so you can tell that story without breaking down completely. what happened to even broke him enough to switch to a new school. that’s not something you just tell someone, regardless if you’re together with them, without having thought it through for weeks—even months—and analysed each possible turnout and reaction. that’s not something you tell someone unless you really, really, really need to.

that’s not to say that it’s… bad. that even and sana weren’t honest with isak from the start. but it’s what it is. even isn’t perfect. sana isn’t perfect. isak isn’t perfect. none of these characters are completely perfect. why not? because they’re supposed to be realistic, human and resound to us. we’re supposed to be able to relate to them, in a way.

lastly, but most importantly: stop thinking you’re so bloody entitled to send shitty asks to people, especially the muslims, people of colour and disabled people of this fandom.

now that i’ve said my piece, kindly don’t find your way into my inbox and think it’s time to discuss. as i said, it’s not up for discussion.

don’t understand what i’m talking about? congratulations, you just won the prize: read this post again until you get it.

peace the fuck out.

WLW TV Recommendations for Everyone Sick of the BYG Trope

So, I know that most of us are tired of the representation we get and of wlw characters getting constantly killed off. I wanted to write a post about all the shows that don’t fall into this trap - I have included three shows that do at some point kill off a wlw, however this is either because - in the case of the first two - almost all of the main characters are wlw and the deaths aren’t particularly offensive, or - in the last one - the death is irrelevant, doesn’t have to be watched + and doesn’t have to affect the story (…I’ll explain later, it’ll be in my second post). This post will focus on wlw-centric shows, and then I’ll be making future posts on shows with one or more main wlw character, and then shows with side wlw characters.

WLW-Centric Shows

Shows which feature majority wlw characters and/or explore primarily wlw themes.

Banana

Drama. Banana is the counterpart to C4′s Cucumber (a drama about a group of gay men living in Manchester) - it consists of 8 25-minute episodes, each focusing on a different character, all of whom are LGBT+. Three focus on mlm, four on wlw, and one on a straight trans woman. All of them vary in tone and offer very different topics. Most of the characters also appear in Cucumber as side characters or guest stars, and vice versa. How good is the representation? Much more racially diverse than most of the shows on this list (unfortunately) with around half of the episodes focusing at least partly on POC. Some sensitive portrayals of living with mental illness and taking care of someone with a disability. Could use more bi/pan characters - as far as I know none of the primary characters are bi/pan, though there is a main bi guy in Cucumber who appears as a side character in Banana. Status: Completed.  Where can I watch it? If you live in the UK, it’s available on 4OD. It’s also pretty easy to find links online.

Faking It

Comedy. Faking It starts off with a potentially offensive premise - in a hilariously liberal high school in Texas, two best friends are mistaken for a couple and decide to keep up the facade once they realise it’ll gain them popularity. However, by the end of the pilot, one of the girls has realised she has feelings for her best friend and from there on out the show becomes about her getting to grips with her identity, and the relationship between the two girls. The first season is the best, and unfortunately after that its original premise starts to get somewhat watered down as it tries to be an ensemble show - however that ensemble features a gay guy and an intersex girl, and side characters include a number of gay and bi girls, gay guys, a trans guy, and a bi guy (there’s also an asexual who pops up for about two seconds). Both Karma and Amy, our love interests slash best friends, are confirmed by the writers to be wlw, but unfortunately the show was cancelled before one of them could come to terms with her sexuality. How good is the representation? There’s a lot of representation but it’s not always handled in the best way! A number of characters express overt biphobia and aren’t always called out on it - bizarrely, considering Karma + Amy are both portrayed to be bi/pan. Mostly white cast. Status: Completed. Where can I watch it? Super easy to find links online!

Lip Service

Drama. Lip Service follows a group of WLW living in Scotland. It’s basically the less offensive, British version of The L Word. I don’t see it mentioned much and yet it’s one of the gayest shows out there so you should definitely give it a go! There is a character death in S2 and it’s unfortunately when the character is feeling happy about a love interest, but I’m giving it a pass since literally all of the main characters are wlw. How good is the representation? As you can see, the show is overwhelmingly white. There is also very little bi rep - all of the main WLW are lesbians apart from one whom I’m not sure whether is gay or bi, and only one bi love interest. The characters are also all cis. Status: Completed.  Where can I watch it? Easy to find links online.

South of Nowhere

Drama. South of Nowhere follows a relatively conservative family who move to LA, but its primary narrative is the romantic relationship between their teenage daughter Spencer, and the new girl she meets, Ashley. It’s soapy and often over-the-top, but the relationship between the two girls is well-done. It’s also one of the only shows where the WLW couple get a very overtly happy ending. How good is the representation? Throughout the first two seasons there’s a well-done narrative about police brutality against black people and the alienation of being a black kid in a white family (Spencer’s brother, Clay, is adopted) but they unfortunately end that narrative pretty badly. The portrayal of Ashley’s sexuality isn’t great in that, after seeing all 3 seasons, she seems to be pretty clearly bisexual and yet very often refers to herself as gay - however, this is a mid-00s show so I’ll forgive them. Status: Completed.  Where can I watch it? Easy to find links online.

Sugar Rush

Comedy. Sugar Rush takes place in Brighton and follows 15-year-old ‘queer virgin’ Kim, as she navigates coming to terms with her lesbian identity, her infatuation with her straight best friend, and her eccentric family. It’s super fun and light and basically the diary-style teen comedy young wlw need (you’ll enjoy it if you’re older, too!) How good is the representation? The cast is largely white (sensing a theme here), and Kim definitely displays some biphobia (I can’t remember whether she gets over that or not) as well as making some immoral decisions (afaik these are portrayed as such though). Overall it’s pretty good for something released in 2004. Status: Completed. Where can I watch it? It can be a tricky one to find but I’ve personally had good luck with DailyMotion. DVDs are available.

The L Word

Drama. The most classic of all WLW shows, The L Word follows a group of WLW living in LA and generally having a lot of sex and getting into a lot of drama. It has a lot of issues but if you still feel able to watch is a lot of fun and super addictive. How good is the representation? The first 2 seasons are great in terms of bi rep, but bizarrely and unfortunately the show becomes super biphobic as it goes on. It can also unfortunately be very transphobic (this will be expanded upon in the triggers section). Again, very white. Two wlw characters are killed off but I’m giving it a pass because everyone’s a wlw. Status: Completed.  Where can I watch it? Should be easy to find links anywhere online! DVDs are available.

Transparent

Dramedy. Transparent follows a Jewish LA family after the father comes out as a trans woman - three of the five main characters (pictured above) are WLW, and the focus of the show is on how all of these characters relate to their own genders and sexualities and how that affects their relationships with another. It’s a beautiful, poignant slice-of-life show. How good is the representation? The main trans woman is played by a cis man, which is a con, but all of the trans female side characters are played by trans women. The bisexual wlw never says the word bisexual, and I personally feel they could’ve gone into more depth regarding one character’s realisation of her sexual identity - however, this is really a cut above the rest. Frustratingly, also mostly white. There’s a potentially very triggering scene regarding a trans woman character - as a cis woman I’m not sure I can say whether it’s offensive or not, but I’ll explain more in the triggers section. Status: Still Airing. Where can I watch it? On Amazon Prime, otherwise, it’s easy to find links online.

You Me Her

Comedy. You Me Her explores the polyamorous relationship between two bi/pan women and one straight man. I’ve yet to see it but I hear that it’s well done and a sensitive portrayal of bi/pansexuality and polyamory. Status: Still Airing. Where can I watch it? Easy to find links online.

Please let me know if you need help finding the shows, and if you watch them and enjoy them! Trigger warnings are below the read more (will contain spoilers).

Alison Clues by Episode - “Farewell, My Lovely”

I was unsure whether or not to include this because I don’t necessarily see it as an Ali is A clue, but it’s definitely weird enough. Why is Alison’s name stressed so many times in this scene? It’s so over the top and noticeable - you and Alison. Something about it caught my attention. And if Mary is so insistent on giving the Lost Woods to both of them, why was only Spencer invited to meet up with her? Why didn’t she ask Alison to come along too? I got the sense in this scene that Mary was trying to communicate something to Spencer, without coming right out and saying it.

Why is Emily dreaming about all of Alison’s various aliases? Vivian Darkbloom, Holly Varjak, someone named Emma Thorwald…why? That was such an unnecessary part of this scene. If anything, this proves to me that even Emily still has some subconscious doubts about Ali, if things like this are coming out in her dreams. She clearly doesn’t completely trust her, as much as she might want to believe she does.

Oh look, once again the board game is back in Alison’s house and no one saw how it got there. And Ali’s reaction to falling asleep is so strange. You were both lying on the couch, why wouldn’t you fall asleep? There’s nothing weird about that. I know there was an implied gas leak or something, but it’s striking to me that each time the board game is moved, it’s always either in or out of her own house.

How did A.D. even get a hold of this old video? The only people who we know had access to it are the NAT members (who are all either dead or irrelevant), Mona (who is clearly not A.D. at this point)…and Alison. And notice how completely unfazed she is by the sudden reappearance of this video that was taken when she was fifteen years old.

Wow, A.D. sure works fast. How in the world did they manage to overhear Mona’s confession, get the last puzzle pieces, and attach them to the car all in a matter of moments? It’s almost like they already knew who killed Charlotte…and who is the one other person who we know was in the bell tower that night?

I can’t take credit at all for this one, but it’s so good I had to include it. I saw it here on Tumblr and I can’t for the life of me remember who posted it, so if this point is yours, message me and I’ll edit immediately to credit you! But just take a look at the interesting connection between these two scenes…

This line from Spencer is pretty sappy…maybe a bit too sappy. Too obvious. If there’s one thing we should all know from watching this show, it’s that you can never really be sure of anything in Rosewood. And after Ali not promising to stick by her friends in 7x18, and how she doesn’t even meet Spencer’s eyes here when she says this line, I feel like there might be more to this.

PSA on Handling LGBTQ Sims and Simblrs

This is a post both for myself and for others. It comes about as the result of dealings with a specific person, who will not be named, but I think the lessons to be learned from it may be able to apply to enough Simblrs outside of that that it will do good to make the post public. I’m not even speaking exclusively to cis straight Simblrs - there’s people on the LGBTQ side who pull this kind of shit too.

  • LGBTQ representation does not begin and end with you having a gay couple as a spare pair, or letting a trans sim into your story once. We are far more ubiquitous than people may assume, and far more casual and capable of happy endings than most of our narratives may indicate. Isolated incidents don’t add to your credibility, they just continue to ‘other’ us, which isn’t the goal.
  • On that same token, learning about us and supporting us doesn’t have an end point. There is no point where you can stop, breathe, and say “okay, I have done all I can to be an ally to this community or that community”. Be constant in your vigilance, be consistent in your support. Flipping flopping just tells us we can’t trust you. (Of course, this is also dependent on disability or neurodivergence. Do all you can within the bounds of what you are physically or mentally capable of.)
  • Don’t pick and choose who you will support and accept and who you won’t. If you constantly make lesbians, don’t vilify gay men. If you allow trans people across the binary, don’t exclude non-binary people or people with unconventional pronouns. Don’t throw ace or aro people under the bus. Either be with us all the way, or don’t be with us at all.
  • LGBTQ representation means far less if the representation is flawed, one-note, or stereotyped. Sure, you might be able to get away with it your first try, but if you have several gay characters and they are all possessive, promiscuous, or whatever, you’re just feeding into something dangerous and misleading. (To prove that I’m not self-unaware, this is something I need to be careful of as well. Right now, my aro characters with 'exceptions’ far outweigh my aro characters who stay aro, and I want the reverse to be true, lest this push a harmful precedent.) But just because there are nuances in us doesn’t mean that there aren’t basic rules of etiquette to apply to all of them when talking to them in real life.
  • Never ask anyone, especially trans or NB people, their birth gender or “biological sex”. Nine times out of ten, it is irrelevant to the conversation at hand.
    • No, it’s not relevant to the conversation you’re thinking of now.
    • No, nor that one.
  • If you ask someone their biological sex anyway, and they decline to tell you, accept that. Don’t press the point. Don’t ask why they won’t tell you. If they wanted to tell you, they would have. LGBTQ people, any person for that matter, reserves the right to hold back any personal information that they don’t wish to disclose.
  • You are not entitled to, or owed, someone’s biological sex. Privacy, in this regard and others, is a fucking basic inalienable right. No means no.
  • You are not owed thanks or gratitude for invasions of privacy either.
  • If someone tells you you are being shitty, the generally accepted thing to do is to apologize and be wary of making the mistake again, not to try ruthlessly to justify your actions and pretend like the other party has wronged you in some way.
  • There is a difference between education and coddling. If you want to learn about some of the basics of LGBTQ stuff from people under that umbrella, fine, but they only have limited resources, time, and patience. There are some steps you’re going to have to take yourself when you don’t have your Token Gay Friend to learn from. Google is a very valuable resource, for instance. As is Wikipedia. And if you’ve tried Google or Wikipedia and you’re not getting the answers, maybe be more specific as to the question. It works wonders.
  • We are not props for your ego. We do not exist to make you feel better if you really fucked up. We do not exist to give you comfort about having privilege over us, nor to applaud you for the tiniest little step. We are not infinite pools of reassurance, we are not notches in your good-person-bedpost. We are not mysteries for you to solve or experiments for you to dissect. We are humans. Treat us that way.
  • If you stop considering an LGBTQ person “amazing” when we lay down some basic boundaries that are essential to any communication, you probably didn’t think we were all that amazing in the first place, and you are acting exactly like any old dudebro fedora-wearing Nice Guy would do on Tinder and OKCupid.
  • Cis people do not get to dictate how trans people should feel about their bodies.
  • Cis people do not get to dictate how trans people should feel about their bodies.
  • Cis people do not get to fucking dictate how trans people should feel about their fucking bodies.
  • Avocadoes bear absolutely no resemblance to vulvas or vaginas.

When writing about Team Rocket, A Guide for Headcannons (master post)

So I am a big fan of Team Rocket from Pokémon and I also read/review and edit fanfiction for my friends. If you are like me, then you have probably noticed that when it comes to writing the Rockets, people tend to go in many different directions. Some people really enjoy AU (Alternate Universe) fics, but this discussion is for those of us who prefer fics that focus on situations that have some continuity with the original anime. These fics are challenging to write because it is really hard to capture Jessie, James, and Meowth’s individual personalities. They have a lot of personality, so knowing how to work with them is difficult at times. I noticed over the years (I am 20) that the vast majority of Team Rocket fanfictions out there depict the TRio way too OOC (out of character). This post is not a rant, rather it is a guide I made for anyone who wants to write about the TRio and keep them in character. I personally watched the English dubbed version up until the start of the diamond and pearl saga, then I switched to Japanese version with English subs, so I am basing these cannons off of my knowledge based on that. If you have objections/amendments, please share them when you reblog. My goal is to organize as much as the cannon information as possible so that future writers can have an easier time trying to write the TRio. I am not trying to offend anyone so sorry if this post sounds rude. If you never wrote a fic, try it out. I don’t have my own, but I assist my friend chipotlepeppers (fanfiction.net) sometimes, and I love to review other peoples’ work.

**AN: when I say ‘writers’, I am referring to fanfiction writers, not official paid scriptwriters.

1.    When writing about Jessie:

·     BEHAVIOR: Writers often make Jessie either this overly mean dominatrix who bosses the other two around to no mercy, or they make her very, very soft. The truth is that Jessie does have a temper, but this is only one side of her. She isn’t always cruel, and she isn’t always soft. Jessie has triggers for her temper. The most common ones are: having the twerps interrupt her plans, being called old, being called less beautiful/young/nice than some other woman, James and Meowth being overly negative, and lack of food. These things make Jessie very angry and likely to lash out. Otherwise, she is generally pleasant. She is a bit moody but is generally optimistic, being known to say things like “What a beautiful day! Today is our day!” on a regular basis, which most 25 year olds don’t usually do, especially when they are trapped in the wilderness with barely any food. She is dorky, clumsy, and obviously not as bright as many of the other adults in the show, but that doesn’t affect her confidence. She is the leader of the group, which, if you are a leader, than you know can be stressful, and for someone who has been travelling nonstop for years and never has enough to eat, not to mention she is stuck with the same two companions the whole time, she is does a very good job of keeping her cool most of the time. Now for her soft side. Jessie likes cute Pokémon and babies, but dislikes small children that whine a lot and disobedient Pokémon. Not only does she say this herself in both the Japanese and English versions of the anime, but she also shows it from time to time. She also loves shopping, dressing up, performing, love-stories, dolls, and  fashion. She also cannot resist her partners begging, especially when it comes to James, and she will make sacrifices for them occasionally. She is aggressive, but she is also a girly-girl. She also isn’t that smart, even though she claims to be the brains of the group.

·   RELATIONSHIPS WITH TEAM: Jessie is the clear leader of the group, though it is unclear whether or not she does anything other than just tell the other two what to do. Jessie and Meowth have a sibling-like relationship. They are both pretty devious and often times have ideas that are a bit more malicious than those of their lavender-haired partner. I think it is safe to say that Jessie argues with Meowth more than she argues with James, especially in the Japanese version of the anime. That doesn’t mean that Jessie dislike Meowth. Writers sometimes make Meowth go away for some irrelevant reason or treat him like a pet in their fics. Jessie really cares for Meowth, as she has been known to stick up for him and make personal sacrifices for his comfort, safety, and dignity. If she ever did treat him like a pet, it would be in a teasing way, not serious. Same with James. She teases James a lot, but she feels guilty when she triggers something that makes his very upset (like how he shouldn’t cry over lost Pokémon). They always make up after a fight, and it is usually a teary-eyed reunion for all three members of the group (so don’t tell me that Jessie is too strong to cry).

·      PAST: Jessie’s past is the most confusing yet elaborate of all (in the TRio, at least). Instead of trying to put it all together in some fabrication, I am just going to list what I know is cannon. Jessie’s mother, Miyamoto, went missing when she was five, and it is implied that she is dead. She was a top team rocket agent and a favorite of the boss’s (Madam Boss at the time, Giovanni’s mother). Jessie grew up in poverty, and her family was so poor that they had to eat snow (we don’t know if this was before or after her mother’s death, or both times, and her father is never mentioned). Jessie met James in Pokémon tech. According to a Team Rocket Radio Drama, they were both going to help a kid who fell and they bumped heads. Jessie said that it hurt but they both laughed anyway. Later they were both searching for the same book by coincidence in the library. Now I am going to assume that this is around the same time Jessie tried out for that  dance audition and got rejected, as in her flashback she looked young and was wearing a school uniform (this is from the episode. This is also the same time that her first crush left her. Later her and James failed out of the school together and at some point joined the bridge bike gang. Jessie earned the nickname “Trainer Jess”. At some point her and James split up, as she has another flashback in which she is training to become a nurse, and James is clearly shocked by this, and the Jessie in the flashback is older. This means that he never knew about that incident. She fails at that and then joins Team Rocket, where she is finally reunited with James in the episode “Training Daze”. They are not very friendly at first (maybe they had some kind of argument, or maybe they were never really that close to begin with). During training they do warm up to one another. This is when they meet Meowth for the first time and the three of them become friends and an official team. Throughout the series, we see them learn more about one another, but at the same time it is clear that they have known each other for a while.

2.     When writing about James:

·    BEHAVIOR: writers have a tendency to make James whiny, submissive, dumb, love-struck, overly softhearted, or too childish. Some writers go the opposite way and give him far too many dominant traits. James, like Jessie, has multiple sides to him. He does act childish, but that doesn’t mean that he is obsessed with donuts and bottle caps ( I think every TR fic mentions these two things). James is a guy, but that doesn’t mean that he has to be the dominant one in a romantic or physical relationship (with Jessie or anyone else). Also, James is not gay. In over 936 episodes, multiple mangas, movies, and specials, not once has James ever shown any interest in a man (I have googled relentlessly on this). Not once. Honestly, I think it would be adorable if he were gay, but he never says it or shows any interest in another man. Poor James has been stereotyped. Why? Because he occasionally likes to wear a dress, has lavender hair, babies his Pokémon, and ran away from marriage like six times throughout the series. Also, in the English dub, he used to have a cute camp British accent, which according to some is the official ‘accent of the gay’.  James does act feminine(he likes fashion, keeping clean, cooking, dancing, decorating, doing hair and makeup), so naturally he is softer than most guys. In addition to that, in the Japanese version of the anime, in the motto, he is called the ‘soft-heart’ of the trio (awe<3), and so yes, he is ‘less evil’ than Jessie and Meowth, this is brought up a lot in the TRio’s arguments. James does have a wicked side though. He does attack people with his Pokémon and hurt them. He still separates Pokémon from their trainers. In the Black and White saga, while Meowth is away with Ash and friends for a while and it is just him and Jessie for a bunch of episodes, James becomes even more wicked. Of course, it is clear that Jessie is still in charge, but they are actually very successful and get on the boss’s good side again, mostly because of James. So, while James prefers to act goofy, childish, and nice, he is still a villain (or he thinks he is anyway). James does have some major issues, it is obvious that he was traumatized by his parents and Jessiebelle. Also, though James is usually depicted as the whiney one,  I noticed that Jessie and Meowth whine just as much. And all together I think their whining is not even that intense, considering their extremely stressful lifestyle.

·   RELATIONSHIP WITH TEAMMATES: James seems to be a little bit closer to Jessie than he does Meowth, but it is clear that he cares about both of them very much. He treats Meowth like a human co-worker, and like Jessie treats the feline, as he sticks up for the Pokémon when someone tries to treat him as anything less than a human being. James clearly admires Jessie. In the Japanese version, he calls her Musashi-sama, and always dotes on her. He didn’t like her contests and performances at first, but once she started doing well, he started to really enjoy it too.  James lets himself get bossed around by Jessie because he claims it is ‘easier that way’. It is unclear exactly what he means by this, but he obviously doesn’t want to be on her bad side, and he would rather cross Meowth than cross her. Also, the he and Jessie have a lot in common as far as interests go, which is where their friendship grows. James does keep some secrets from his teammates (like how he didn’t tell them about his wealth until it was forced out of him, or how he sometimes hides food) but he never lies about anything that he thinks would hurt them.

· PAST: James ran away from his mansion when he was young, probably between the ages of 7-10, as he looks to be about that age in his last appearances at the mansion. He met Jessie at Pokémon tech, later failed and joined the bike gang with her, and after they split up, he eventually joined Team Rocket. James was assigned to work with Jessie because she couldn’t hold on to a partner. James was determined to become her last partner. They were joined with Meowth, and the rest is history.

3.     When writing about Meowth:

·      BEHAVIOR: Meowth is cowardly and greedy, and it is rare that these two instincts are over powered by the feelings of friendship and love. Meowth likes to tease his human companions about their love-hate relationship, but it is unsure whether or not he ever really thinks that much into it, as he makes wisecracks about almost everything. Meowth falls in and out of love easily, though this is more accurately called lust, as he never really sticks with a human/Pokémon for long after ‘falling in love’ with them. Meowth also hates cold or splashing water, dog-type Pokémon, Persians, being cold, and being told it is ‘strange’ or ‘wrong’ for him to act like a human. He would never evolve, unless maybe you can come up with some really good reason that will change his mind, but he seems pretty adamant on the subject, so I would avoid that when writing about him. Meowth is over Meowzie, and although he probably would return to her if she asked, that is most likely to never happen. If she wanted him, she would have joined the TRio 800 episodes ago.

·  RELATIONSHIP WITH TEAMMATES: Meowth obviously relies on Jessie and James a lot. Meowth doesn’t do well on his own, and whenever he is alone, he is desperate for company. He is arguably the most intelligent member of the TRio, not only because of his ability to speak like a human, but also because he apparently manages the Team’s finances and also builds many of those huge robots they use to try and steal Pokémon. Meowth likes James more, as he has mentioned several times throughout the series, but he tends to pair Jessie and James as one entity, calling them ‘his humans’ If one of them does something wrong, Meowth naturally blames both of them. Meowth also gets very jealous when Jessie and James do things without him.  He is usually the one to bring them all back together in the end after some kind of argument or disagreement.

· PAST: Meowth’s backstory is the most straightforward and well known. Meowth was abandoned as a kitten. He raises himself in a city and spends most of his time being hungry. He dreams of going to Hollywood, because he sees ads and there is always lots of food in the ads. In Hollywood he meets Meowzie, who belongs to a wealthy woman. She calls him a ‘dirty street Meowth’, and says that she likes humans more. Meowth takes this to heart and decides to make himself more human-like. He teaches himself to talk and how to walk on two legs. When he returns to Meowzie and shows off his new talents, she rejects him again, this time calling him a freak. Meowth runs away and eventually joins Team Rocket. In the episode “Training Daze”, we see Meowth come to Giovanni’s office. He tells Giovanni that ‘It has always been a dream of mine to become a real Team Rocket field agent’. Giovanni is clearly disturbed by his presence, and assigns him to work with Jessie and James, hoping to keep the strange Pokemon out of his way. Meowth can tell there is tension between Jessie and James, but tries to ignore it and get the three of them to work together. Eventually they end up as friends and promise to stick together forever (awe).

So that is it for the individual characters, now for some other random Team Rocket stuff:

ON ROCKETSHIPPING: Rocketshipping is cannon based on who you ask and what you mean by ‘Rocketshipping’. Some writers and shippers mean it to be a very strong platonic friendship between the two, and this is cannon. It has been confirmed several times, mostly in the Japanese version, that James and Jessie share a very special bond. Most people mean it to be something more. According to the Electric Tales of Pikachu Manga, they do get married and have a baby, though the story ends after that. This manga was written and published by someone who did work for the show and helped write a few of the episodes, but that manga did a lot of things that differed from the anime. I honestly believe, just by observance, that Jessie and James have that whole ‘strong platonic friendship’ thing down. I mean, we’ve seen them hug hundreds of times, cry together, share stories of their past, bath in the hot springs together and even sleep in the same bed. And we have seen in the past what happens when one of them almost leaves the group. They fall apart and run crying back into one another’s arms. I think that realistically, they will be together forever, and maybe one day Jessie will realize that the ‘prince charming’ was the same man she spent the last two decades with, and James will realize that marriage isn’t so scary after all, since he has been living with a woman for more than half his life already. Would Meowth support it? It depends, I think. He would no doubt tease them, like he has done in the past, but I think it depends on the situation and how it all works out.

·     OTHER RANDOM THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND IF WRITING A TR-CENTRIC  FANFIC:

›   Yes, Jessie and James both can dance, they both can cook, and they both can sing (at least in Japanese).

›   James did not ALWAYS hate Jessiebelle. He used to love her. Keep in mind they were once friends, and that she wasn’t evil her entire life.

›   Twice Jessie supported James getting married to Jessiebelle, and one other time to another girl. She just thought it would be temporary, though.

›   Jessie is desperate to find someone to marry. Like really desperate, it just so happens that no one else is as desperate as she is. James on the other hand, has mentioned several times how he would never get married because he wants to stay with Jessie and Meowth in Team Rocket (if only there was a solution to that).

›   All three of them love to eat. They will eat just about anything too. Meowth loves fish, and has also been seen eating cans of something suspiciously labeled ‘Cat Food”. I just thought this was weird and worth mentioning. He eats Pokémon food too though, he just doesn’t like it as much.

›   Jessie and James actually were successful in the Black and White Series. Why does Giovanni keep them around and not just fire them? In the Japanese veriosn of the anime, it is strongly implied that they used to do good work (before Jari-boy came along with Pikachu). I also noticed how he treats them like his misbehaving children, a little but differently from his other agents.  Maybe he is looking after Jessie. After all, Miyamoto (Jessie’s mother) did help Madam Boss raise Giovanni, and it could be that he is just returning the favor now that she is gone. Or maybe Giovanni really is fooled by them. Team Rocket is a big organization, and maybe he actually believes that the TRio is contributing as much as they claim they are when they send in the progress reports.

›   Jessie loves Wobbufet. She used to dislike him, now he is like her favorite Pokémon (except for maybe Gourgeist). She rarely gets mad at him anymore.

›   James and Jessie’s other Pokémon, minus the ones they released/traded, are with Giovanni. Giovanni took them, claiming that their new captures (Yamask, Woobat, ect.) were really his and that they caught them for him. They are all still at TR HQ, and the only reason Jessie has Wobbufet still is because he snuck out to be with her, and Giovanni either doesn’t know about this or care enough to try and get Wobbafet back.

›   James’ parents aren’t pure evil, as far as we know. They are, however, neglectful and selfish.  James mentions how he was always put down as a child and made miserable by his parents, schoolmates, and Jessiebelle. They really don’t care much about James. Example: despite being superrich, they didn’t really put that much effort into looking for him when he ran away, as his ‘missing’ poster depicted him as a child, and by the time he saw them again, he was already a grown man. When he ran away the second time, he presumably argued with them again, but they didn’t really go after him, Meowth, and Jessie. It is revealed later (like, four or five seasons later) that he snuck away, and that  they were still trying to get him back home that entire time.

So that about wraps it up. There must be more, so add in those other deets/comments when you reblog. I tagged all the artists, I would like to tgive them credit where credit is due. I also tagged the blogs that I found the artwork on. Thanks to @pokemonfanthings for helping me with Meowth’s headcannons and offering to post this on her blog first, @pokemonshipsblogwithteamrocket for helping me with Jessie and the part about Rocketshipping, @paradoxinyourpantshorse for correcting some of the errors and reminding me that I am not insane for wasting two hours making this post, and my little sister Meg who told me about the Black & White series, which I didn’t watch until last week (with Japanese subs though). Please share and Peace out!

anonymous asked:

What's your thoughts on what Glip responded on twitter?

It’s intentionally manipulative, to be blunt. But I’m glad you sent me this ask because I wanted to go through this. Warning: I talk a lot.

First things first, PK lied out of the gate by saying our only reasoning was the old Pengo call out, when, honestly....no one is talking about Pengo. The Pengo situation was shitty, but it was receipt-less, we don’t know what the fuck actually happened. We’re talking about the time PK harassed Matt Burnett off tumblr over Pearl liking Pie. We’re talking about the time Eevee said he was uncomfortable with child porn being illegal. We’re talking about PK’s admitted fetish for teaching sex to children in conjunction with how they want their legacy to be kids reading their porn, And how in order to get the full story for Floraverse you have to read the porn, meaning children who want the plot to floraverse will have to read the fucking porn. We’re talking about the time PK said they hated the furry community because there where too many gays. We’re talking about the time PK ripped off artists by underpaying them to contribute to a Floraverse product. We’re talking about the time PK called people with autism “emotionless robots”.

PK starts off by saying the reason people are calling them out is because of Pengo, but it’s not, PK knows this. We’re calling PK out because of the multiple recorded incidents of them being awful, and…..yet PK says we’re doing it because of Pengo? Don’t you think that’s just, idk, really suspicious? Like they’re trying to mislead people who haven’t seen the posts floating around that it’s no big deal, it was just one incident that was recanted..?

Moving onto the next paragraph..

PK is right kind of here, but their words aren’t reflective of this particular situation. Call outs can and are horrible when it’s misinformation being spread, but, how is what we’re spreading misinformation? All we really have are screen caps and archives. While screen caps can be edited, nothing has been shown them to be edited. And Archives cannot be faked period. It’s a false comparison simply because we’re not spreading misinformation, we’re not being nitpicky because of something stupid we’re spreading screen caps and archives showing people things that PK has actually fucking said. PK called people with autism emotionless robots. Eevee said they where uncomfortable with child porn being illegal. PK and Eevee both harassed Matt Brunette. PK has admitted to wanting 13 year olds reading forbidenflora and has also admitted to a fetish about teaching kids sex. These things have come right out of the horses mouth. And posting proof that these things where said is not misinformation.

Next Paragraph:

Now, I can’t speak for everyone against Glip, but.

I hate the fact that I hate them now.

I looked up to Glip for so long, they where my art idol growing up. A person to become. I purchased their art books and supported them financially. I participated in PMD-E, I was even in the IRC for a bit and contributed to the wiki with art. But now? I just feel dirty. I was one of the few children who didn’t look at porn, but I saw a ton of PK’s porn- mostly because it was hard to avoid as a fan of theirs, and now that I know they get off to that shit I feel violated. I hate the fact someone I idolized turned out to be this way.

I don’t do this because I hate pk, I do this because I believe people have a right to know where their money is going too.

That being said.

PK has not once apologized for ANYTHING they have said or done.

Pk is still doing the shit they where doing years ago.

They have not stopped being so horrible to people in general, nor stopped with their casual pedophilia, nor recanted their homophobic and ableist comments and they don’t ever try to improve their lgbt+ representation. PK is openly sexist even now. PK doesn’t even attempt to apologize, not even here!

So, quite frankly. Pk can take their “my call outs are irrelevant because I’m trying to improve” and shove it up their god damn ass.

If PK actually improves, apologizes and the like- well. I can’t speak for everyone who takes issue with them but I know I personally would back down. I was never as bad as PK but I know people can go from awful to somewhat ok from personal experience.  But as far as I’m concerned PK is an active threat to children, artists and lgbt people in general. They’re a horribly toxic person and should be labeled as such.

I’m going to skip forward because Glip then continues to talk about call outs in general, but ignores how their call outs are all archives and not he said she said and things that glip is still actively doing. I don’t want to be accused of cutting what they said out of context so here’s the entire tweet btw.

It wasn’t a false fucking accusation and PK is straight up lying here.

People reported the kickstarter because Glip admitted to putting money into the KS themselves, a direct violation of Kickstarters terms and services.

Oh, and here is PK being a bitch to someone who was genuinely trying to warn PK about this because they where a backer and didn’t want to see the KS get taken down. Just a fun little note.

To recap,

PK’s little twitter rant is intentionally manipulative. It reduces our entire issue with PK down to one incident, and then falsely equates PK situation with a situation in which lies are being spread out of hostility, instead of screen caps and archives being spread. This rant was likely only done to save face because there’s a correlation between how many people know the true nature of PK and how much money people give PK. It’s shitty, and it’s really meaningless in regards to changing my opinion on them for the better.

So your RP community is dying

I saw this post last night and, in my usual way, typed out a big fiery response to it highlighting the problems with the idea and how the idea itself didn’t address the problem it was intending to solve. Rather than leave it at that, here are some tips for those facing the same situation.

Be the first to extend the olive branch

I know. The person you’re dealing with said something stupid, they don’t care about lore, and they did a bad thing in RP. I know, it sucks. But the fact is that if anything good is going to come of it, someone has to be the first to put out their hand and say “Look, forget it, let’s move on.” Don’t sit there waiting for them to do it. Don’t justify to yourself that it was all their fault and that if anyone should apologize, it should be them. Because apology isn’t what this is about. It’s forgiveness and a willingness to move on. Besides that, if you truly wish they hadn’t done it and wish they wouldn’t do it in the future, you’re not going to encourage them in that direction if you shun them completely. Show them that you want to give it another shot and be the first to ask for a return to square one.

Demand proof of rumored wrongdoing

“Don’t RP with that person. I heard they said ___ to ___. I also heard that their guild ___s with ___.” Fill in the blanks with whatever would make you most upset to hear. “I heard they said ‘kill yourself’ to so-and-so.” Anything of that sort. Now, before getting angry and hating that person forever, go down the list. Do they have proof? Have you spoken to this person before hearing this rumor about them? Do you know them well? Do you know anyone you trust who can be a witness to their character? If two or more of these are in question, don’t be too hasty to reach a conclusion. Even if the person telling you in the first place is trustworthy to you, they may have heard it from an untrustworthy source with an agenda. Ask yourself if believing this rumor would ruin the rumored person’s reputation or cause others to avoid them. If so, there may be an ulterior motive for whoever started the rumor.

Be flexible

A sign of a new roleplayer is their tendency to play fast and loose with the lore. Think back to when you first started roleplaying. In Warcraft, did you know that Night Elves and Blood Elves really, really hated each other? Did you know that Gnomes weren’t believers in the Light in the days before Cataclysm? These and similar misunderstandings can cause your RP to be misinformed and incomplete. Before you consider chewing the player out for not having read about every playable race, every faction, every class, every zone, and every novel in the Warcraft canon, ask them if they’d like someone to talk to about lore and how it affects their character. Don’t demand them to change their RP! Instead, suggest changes that will better allow them to fit into the community. It may be their $15 a month at the end of the day, but they’ll have a lot more fun if they have a wider pool of people to interact with. Make sure you tell them that you want to help them for this reason. Don’t help them just to satisfy yourself. (I’ll try to make another post more in depth about this)

Don’t bow down to popular rule

“But NetherStray,” you might say, “isn’t the idea of a community tightly rooted in the desires of majority opinion?” It is, yes, but the goal of integrating new players isn’t to make them conform to what the community wants. The goal of integrating new players is to help them find RP partners. That’s it. By improving how they interact with the rest of the community and by teaching them some basic do’s and don’ts of RP, you improve their chances of finding their own little community to exist in within the greater community. Whether that’s a guild or just a circle of friends is irrelevant. If they’re comfortable in the community, they’ll be willing to reach out. They’ll be more comfortable making new characters and trying new things, and when your community is in decline, pulling in new talent is much more important than retaining old talent. People will leave a community if nothing new ever happens.
So where does popular rule come into this? It comes into all of it. Along the way, there will inevitably be fellow RPers who want to dismiss the new bloods. “Hah, look at this noob! They barely know the lore! What’s with their TRP? God, they’re so Mary Sue. Not everyone needs to be a special snowflake.”

Stomp that shit out. Wow, you mean the person who’s new doesn’t know everything? You mean they’re not an amazing writer right off the bat? Say it isn’t so! It’s up to you to kill this negative talk right where it stands. Successful people don’t talk down to others. They don’t try to hold other people back. They see potential where others see ineptitude. Don’t be that asshole who could have been decent but instead decided to be a jerk, the person who made them think “Maybe I should just give up.” Lift others up. And sure, they’re not the best. Sure, they have work to do. They could improve! But they never will improve if they’re given a hard time every time they try to do something!

Conclusion, and why I’m doing this

As you might have read in the previous post, I’ve seen this happen on my original server. Once a bustling RP server with lots of active guilds, active stories, and fantastic players, the server has dwindled to only a few active guilds and cloistered players who stick to guild events and whatever social media website they’ve all flocked to this week. Too little was done to keep new players coming back. Too much was done to discourage new players from continuing to try, from improving further. Too many people were content to laugh at the new while crying that the old was fading away.

You have to come to terms with the fact that if something isn’t growing, it’s dying. Whether it’s a business or an RP community, it’s always a building sinking into the sand. People will retire, they will grow bored of the mundane, and they will have plenty more good reasons to leave. The only protection against sinking completely is to keep building. And while events and well-meaning community leaders may try to inject life back into it, it’s the individual RPers and their everyday interactions that matter most.

Support the newbies. Be the helping hand you would have wanted when you first arrived. Be the voice against doubters and haters that you would have wanted when people doubted and hated you.

Even if this part wouldn’t be read at all I still feel like writing it because I do actually enjoy it! I see a lot of people struggling on here by the lack of response they get for they stories while they totally forget the ones who did read and liked it! I must admit that in the beginning I felt the same because it is hard. There are so many awesome writers out there so you always compare yourself. But actually there is no need because writing is  something just for me. It calms me down and I allows me to shut the world out for a little while. And that is what counts I guess. So yeah after telling you my little realization I hope you can enjoy this part :) ♥

my highlights list of Owl City songs

maybe you’ve only heard like “fireflies” and you dont have shit taste and aren’t a coward and so you’ve always hoped i’d make a list of imo extra standout owl city songs; maybe i just wanted to make something like this list even though i didnt try that hard to cut it down and it would change every day and i dont think i dislike any of his songs and could give reasons why i especially like some element of pretty much each of them

Assuming Everyone’s Also Heard: VANILLA TWILIGHT (Ocean Eyes), GOOD TIME (The Midsummer Station)
they’re both amazing. vanilla twilight is intense and good for when you’re looking at a nice sunset and feeling brave. shaq is in the music video. that carly rae jepsen and adam young happened to team up was a great move by whoever initiated it, and good time is iconic, and there’s a version where carly rae jepsen is also singing the chorus and its better but i dont really know how to search for it in particular because its otherwise identical

***HELLO SEATTLE*** (Ocean Eyes)
this was on the radio too so it couldve gone in the above section but it needs its own. im not sure i’d say this is officially my favorite owl city song but if someone hadnt heard anything by owl city this is the one i’d choose to represent his entire vibe and be the first impression. and you’d think nobody could possibly remix it but adam young himself did and its fantastic and relatable even though the only lyrics are the occasional words “hello seattle.” technically the first version of this song is on the album “of june” and theyre both good but i like the ocean eyes version best

DESIGNER SKYLINE (Of June)
the most upbeat song on the album probably. adam young is very very good at lyrics and some elements of this include his imagery, rhythm, alliteration, wordplay, and general ability to make the words in a song both euphonic in the sound along but also be very Pretty content wise. ok im most serious about how good he is with lyrics so maybe i’ll be more concise after this one

FUZZY BLUE LIGHTS (Of June)
owl city songs aren’t depressing or even really Sad even when they’re sad (w/ some exceptions…cough silhouette) but they’re good if you are / have been a Sad Person Who Lives In Their Head because thats what a lot of the songs are about / the perspective theyre from. this one sounds like that and also like an overcast day

***IF MY HEART WAS A HOUSE*** (Ocean Eyes)
the Best love song of the whole discography imo. it goes hard as fuck. i don’t date but for the duration of this song i have a gf/bf/nb-f

THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG (Ocean Eyes)
one of the best and another one of the best love songs. im especially partial to the winter theme now o course. this super cool thing happens in the middle with amazing lyrics and this volume effect. the instrumental versions of this and if my heart was a house are also killer

ANGELS (All Things Bright And Beautiful)
adam young loves jesus a whole lot; this song is about literal christian angels. i love the alliteration of the lines “in the dust on the cellar staircase / a pair of footprints followed me / i saw a flicker in the fake fireplace”. not many owl city songs are from both an upbeat perspective AND have upbeat music, and this one’s chorus really goes for it. adam y.’s pretty excited about jesus stuff i think and so when he channels that in songs especially about jesus, it’s pretty energetic. but for the most part his songs arent overtly christian save maybe some passing references, so if thats a concern dont worry

***GALAXIES*** (ATBAB)
for example, this one definitely has a jesus line. but this is just one of the references to an unspecified “he” which means it could also just be interpreted as gay. (owl city belongs to the gays btw) and this really is a song to go ham to and listen to it with stereo speakers because one of my fave parts relies on that. the intro is a bit jarring because the outro of “january 28, 1986” is meant to transition into this one

DEMENTIA (The Midsummer Station)
i’d put this as a highlight but recognize its coz its a personal fave. it sounds like it would be incredibly depressing of course but it has nothing to do with actual dementia thank god. it’s a love song and very upbeat in both sound and content. i’m hugely partial to the lyrics, especially the pairs “every light in the night flickered in and out / every bone in my back shivered up and down”; “every voice in my head shouted yes and no / every freight train of thought fought to stop and go”; “every tear in my eyes dripped and wouldn’t drop / every disc in my spine shook and couldn’t stop” and “every hand let me go that i tried to hold / every warm-hearted love left me freezing cold”

KISS ME BABE, IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME (single)
he has a bunch of random christmas singles and this ones the best. the titles ridiculous and i love it, and the song isn’t really about anything and i love it. it is such a bop. “peppermint winter” and “humbug” are the other best xmas ones

SHOOTING STAR (Midsummer)
half the songs on this album are summery dancey songs about having fun with other people (usually owl city songs are about being lonely or having fun with one other person tops by cloudwatching, so this album is unusual in that regard and rocks out a bit which is also unusual as per owl city’s tendency to sound really dreamy or otherwise fairly light. it bothers people who are in the “the old stuff is better” camp of everything) and the other half are upbeat summery songs that are encouraging and tell you you’re a good and special person. this one is the latter and a lot of fun. i like the lyrics and melody of the lines “fan a flame so hot it melts our hearts” and “let your colors burn and brightly burst / into a million sparks that all disperse / and illuminate a world that’ll try to bring you down” (but not this time)

GOLD (Midsummer)
same category song as above (title refers to “i know you’re gold”). it’s great and sung to a person about to go off and do something and you’re telling them they can totally do it because they’re great. i maintain that one of the Owl City Signature Moves is The Affectionate Sigh: he’s very good at working in words sung with a rising/falling tone, a la a sigh, and its an upbeat delivery not like a “im sad” sigh. when it happens in this song is my favorite part of the whole thing, at the end of the line: “you’ll never be far, i’m keeping you near, inside of my heart, you’re he^re”

BEAUTIFUL TIMES (Ultraviolet EP)
the songs on ultraviolet all have a super cool sound, kind of mixing the more loud/layered/noisy quality of midsummer station with the more introverted vibe he usually has, and are all kind of about being stressed and sad but looking to something or someone and kind of seeing a chance to feel okay. “this isn’t the end” is completely about a girl who’s dad kills himself but it has the really good line “you fight to survive cuz you made it this far” and otherwise has a technically uplifting end but without much of the “you shouldnt kill yourself because life is magical” bs which is useless and irrelevant imo but instead the “life is chaotic and you cant say the future is going to be good but it exists and meanwhile you’re not dead yet” which is an infinitely more thoughtful approach. but anyways, about beautiful times: its also about being happy but usually being really sad (“this fight of my life is so hard (so hard, so hard) but i’m gonna survive, oh oh these are beautiful times,”) and also isnt very patronizing about the subject (the prospect/aspiration of feeling happy when you’re a Sad Person) and frames everything in having had damagingly negative feelings while still being overall positive. i really like the way he sings into the first few verses with an echo of what will be the first couple of words, overlapping slightly and growing in volume before taking you right into the actual start of the verse. this is the most upbeat sounding song of the EP imo

THUNDERSTRUCK (Mobile Orchestra)
the intro alone is killer. one of the most Go Hard to songs of the owl city discography. proudly carries the tradition of singing about ghosts (see: plant life, a fun-to-sing-along-to song all about an actual haunted house)

BACK HOME (Mo Orch)
this album has a lot of sounds that, while familiar, are different from any of the other albums, like this one which is very very country. it goes hard as fuck. it uses the word “fireflies” for the first time since fireflies. i love it

CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT YOU (M.O.)
personal fave of the album is mostly why this is here. as the title suggests its a dramatic love song, i love how pumped the chorus is and the way the outro sounds. Love To Sing Along

***WHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN?***
this is peak “happy music, sad lyrics” even though thats everywhere in owl city music, its pretty rare to find songs that are straightforwardly happy. this song is a banger and lyrically crushing. i guess its in the “bittersweet” category like a shit ton of owl city songs are, but still. this song changed our lives

I HOPE YOU THINK OF ME
has this sick chill drumbeat throughout the song which is kind of rare. it kind of fuses his underwater type sound with his going hard as hell sound. like, it would be like the choreography of “bet on it” if i was listening to this song while standing up. you get really into the lyrics. i love this part at the end where the music pulls back for just a second while he goes “the thought is KILLING me!” shoutout to “kamikaze” where he yells half of it and its invigorating, shoutout to “paper tigers” which is an amazing song that hasnt shown up on an album

SUNBURN (Ocean Eyes)
possibly the cutest owl city song. it has a sweet guitar riff. cute sweet, not sickass sweet.

HOT AIR BALLOON (Ocean Eyes)
possibly the happiest owl city song. extremely cute but not as cute as sunburn but happier than sunburn.

BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY
killer intro, really upbeat, the melody of the verses is great and the chorus goes pretty hard

RAINBOW VEINS (Maybe I’m Dreaming)
another top level cute and happy song (“cheer up and dry your damp eyes, and tell me when it rains, and i’ll blend up that rainbow above you, and shoot it through your veins”) and has a top tier chilled out whispery interlude/bridge/whatever that then throws you into this pumped up finale

THE YACHT CLUB (ATBAB)
speaking of being thrown into a pumped up finale, this does that too. so does “umbrella beach.” this one goes hardest imo and the live version of it goes even harder than that. plus the lyrics are amazing and the alliteration is stellar

***SUPER HONEYMOON*** (Maybe I’m Dreaming)
consistently one of my top tier faves. i like the semi staccato delivery of parts of the lyrics, the music is fantastic, also very Classic Example of owl city

SKY DIVER (MID)
super dreamy and pretty and bittersweet sounding, classic

HALCYON
a bop!!! electronica on electronica

SLEEPWALKER
so fun and sounds like a song to be going to the beach to

YOUTOPIA (ft. Adam Young)
obvs not owl city but i’m putting it in, the full 4 min version. not only dreamy and bittersweet but one thing i always love in music is an unresolved musical phrase repeating on end. there’s also this part in the middle where his vocals kind of layer and grow and it has a long E sound and when he lingers on the long E its one of those things that would be grating except for its actually great because of that. see: honey and the bee

MR. HEARTACHE (ft. Adam Young)
a total bop about being sad. like i wanna jump around to this song. see: tokyo, the song by adam young (owl city) featuring the artists of this one, SEKAI NO OWARI, which has my fave lyric “are you having fun yet, i’ll send you the sunset, i love the most”

FIREFLIES (Said the Sky remix)
the intro to this is like, oh my god. the only fireflies remix the world needs.

UMBRELLA BEACH (Long Lost Sun remix)
the original is great but i love this version even more. the finale is fantastic and exuberant

THAT’S IT i could include all the songs because i have good things to say and specific things to point out about each of them. for example: dental care is a masterpiece of puns. puns are a running theme in owl city. so is ghosts, the sky, the ocean, and The Affectionate Sigh. if you listen to enough songs you find repetitions of certain phrases like “oh darling i wish you were here,” “i feel like a postcard, i wish you were here,” “like hundreds of postcards, that say i wish you were here” and someone should make a post of all of them. it would be me if i had a laptop. anyways i like owl city you’re welcome for this post

How to Determine your Classpect

Homestuck classpect theory something that I’ve spent hours reading theories about and discussing with friends, and I think one of the big reasons why it’s so entertaining is the ability to apply it to your own life and determine your own Sburb title.

Unfortunately, a lot of people will do that by just taking a test that hands them a title—and that just doesn’t work! Most of those tests are thrown together by people who don’t really understand classpect theory, and even the more well thought-out ones based off of legitimate personality tests are usually inaccurate, because classpect isn’t just based off of personality.

Now, I personally still think that the best way to figure out what your title is is to do a bunch of research, reading dozens of different takes on classpect theory in order to solidify your own base of understanding, but I know not everyone’s crazy enough to do that. It’s also not an option for anyone who’s unfamiliar with Homestuck, as they all contain loads of references to the comic. I agree that that’s important in building a complete understanding of the system, but overall, classpect something that should be able to be understood without any knowledge of the comic, and I’d love to see people who haven’t read Homestuck get into it. So now, I’ll do my best to present to you:

The ultimate quick* guide to figuring our your classpect!

*Will still probably take a little while to read through, but at least it’s faster than digging through a bunch of other posts for relevant info.

27kra analysis frame by frame, turns out fake + turns out a footage taken from a horror movie - ???

Hello TJLC conspirators and all people still digging to find some explanation for all that season 4 mess. Although I checked out your blogs and read metas from a long time, I didn’t have my own account, and the reason I decided to start one is something I recently noticed, which may or may not give some clues about something, i don’t know. I may be right, I may be terribly wrong, whatever, but the whole conspiracy itself is already one big madness, so I might as well drop something which may seem crazy or irrelevant to me…

People probably already analyzed it a hundred times, but I’d like to come back to the subject of thelostspecial.com and the whole 27kra thing. It’s unknow whether it’s a real official site established to mess with our minds, or an incredibly well done and entertaining fan made, but I think there’s something weird going on and the site’s content is definitely worth checking out. When you type thelostspecial.com/27kra/ you get a rather spooky, The Lost Highway-ish kind of gif which consists mainly of VHS-type glitches. Since I’m a huge fan of VHS, super 8, analog formats and all those glitches and deformations related them, I decided to split the gif into frames and look at them closer. Here I’m going to analyze what is visible on those frames (or maybe, what I can see). I won’t go on with guessing 27kra name, I’ll concern strictly on the gif’s content. There’s something that I noticed that I didn’t see mentioned anywhere on Tumblr (though I may be wrong and it could have been written already, and then I’m sorry for making sensations over old news). Okay, here it goes.

I’m going to post the frames in order. I’m going to write what I see on those pictures, which of course doesnt mean it’s right or anything cause other ones might see it completely different, and of course we cannot be sure of anything at all.

First off, we see something that looks like an entrance, or an exit, and a chunk of the corridor behind the “door”. That’s the first thing that came to my mind. It somehow made me think of Sherrinford, all that simple architecture, corridors and portals, etc., probably because of those numbers visible on the top and the bottom of the footage, it all reminds me of some sort of CCTV footage.

Next frame is just glitches… or maybe something more? If you look closer it seems like some very blurry footage of some room. You can see the black doors in the right corner of the photo, and just next to doors (or maybe a window?) on the left you can see a dark rectangle which might be a tv screen. Then there’s something dark on the left side, and on the bottom there’s something like a… white bottle??? Or just a bottle-looking glitch, which seems more probable. I swear at first I considered it just a composion of glitches, but now I see it as a room.

Then there’s THIS WEIRD SHIT. It appears at least four times in different variations, so I’m going to discuss it later. To see description scroll this writing. Now I’ll pass onto the next frame.

Glitches… anyone can see something in there?

“TV room” comes back again.

What the hell is that. A table with some books/CDs/packages (with some metal holders?)? And with something round? And on the left side there’s something like a floor and the wall? It seems as if someone took a photo of table (or whatever it is) standing just by this table. Table. Why am I even calling it a table? What the fuck is that? SOmEBODY HELP

Beautiful colorful smear of I don’t know what. Althought some people claim to see something in there.

A more blurry version of the “table”. I know it’s not a table - I hope someone enlighten me wtf it is.

???

And then there’s something that probably everyone already noticed. An eye. Or THE eye. I’ve seen people writing it’s Moriarty, well, that’s also the the first thing that came to my mind. I tried to find some photo of Moriarty looking down (sort of) so I could compare those pictures - I admit you guys are better at finding needed photos/screencaps, here’s the best I could find:

I cut it just to have an eye in the center. Not exactly the same position, but it doesn’t matter. I think they didn’t show him with eyebrows cause it wouldn’t be easier to see the similarity (IF there are some THEY, IF it is who we think it is.) Containing Moriarty in the footage would be a real sign that something wicked this way comes.
But, I don’t know. Someone told me it might be John Watson’s eye, which would fit the shot-in-the-eye theory. What do you think about it?

Another (or the very same room). A kind of cluttered room…

This one seems like a look at the room from above, maybe another CCTV angle. I think it’s the more visible version of the previous. What the fuck is that? A sofa? A coffeetable? Why am I seeing tables everywhere? And what’s that purple thing?

AND FINALLY SOMETHING FUCKY

Please let me paste the frame which I passed
Here’s what follows just after the CCTV-looking frame

I may be going mad but ISN’T IT A FUCKING FACE IN HERE?! I mean-

That’s how i see it. The face seems to be tilted back. If you look at the higher resolution screen you can see it seems nose-like and eye-like. The “hair” seem to be long and straight, so it’s a woman? Not a woman? Eurus? Not Eurus? Whoever? Or is it just glitches? But if you look at other frames by the end of the gif you can see “the face” sort of MOVES:

It’s tilted back a little bit more and turned in its left a little. Here’s the same thing in negative:

The things that follow:

BUT! I just now got this one idea… a crazy, fucked up idea, it definitely is insane and probably wrong, but…

Of course, of course I know it might me fake, something put together by some Sherlock fan, or whatever the fuck else. But something tells me it’s not. This COULD be the real thing, right? So, what does it tell us, fans/The Great Game players? At best: something’s coming, something’s happening, you’re on the right path. At worst: someone’s mocking us and though to me it’s highly enjoyable, it’s not Mofftis and we’re seeing things (IT’S JUST THAT THERE’S TOO MUCH OF THOSE SUPPOSEDLY NONEXISTENT THINGS TO SEE, COUGH COUGH). Either way, we’re being experimented on. I don’t know about you, but either way it’s awesome. For the first time from a long time i’m having real fun, and trust me, that’s a lot.
But, for real. If it’s just a fake and we’re all wrong, I would be highly disappointed. THIS ALL IS TOO GREAT, TO GENIUS, TOO ENJOYABLE TO RESULT IN NOTHING. And it means I’ve spent four hours on putting together a writing about something that doesn’t exist. To be honest, I’ve spent too much time on analyzing unreal things and searching for subliminal satanic messages in something very fucked up just to aknowledge it was all in vain. And now I’m just too mindfucked over this and other things that all of you post every day…
Maybe I got excited over something not relevant or already discussed, i don’t know, you decide. But i needed to throw it out somewhere. Please tell me what you think about it, and if you have something new to add about it or ask me about anything don’t be afraid to do it. I’m more than eager to discuss with you guys. Maybe I sound like a crazy person but it’s their fault, not ours, right?

UPDATE: Guys it’s solved. There’s nothing in there. It turned out that most of those glitches
can be easily found on Youtube as free samples of vhs glitches, except for the supposed
“Moriarty’s eye”. I apologize for raising hopes and making some of you excited about the concept, but it all turned out absolutely fake. I’m sorry. So sorry.

To somehow not to leave you irritated/disappointed entirely, here’s one last thing that still could be relevant…  There still could be some spark of hope because of the “Moriarty’s eye”. I couldn’t find it anywhere in premade popular glitches so it still could be a thing, maybe they just decided to do it easier way and paste one important frame between some easily-found shit from Youtube. Though i would except more from them. But… isn’t it all about spreading confusion? Maybe it’s MEANT to be that way… It does make me wonder why is it just like that, and well, the aim of all this investigating is to make us wonder, so… you never know. Sometimes it’s all about finding ONE IMPORTANT THING between irrelevant pieces and chaos, so if you want to believe this theory, we have this one important thing, we have Moriarty. I don’t know what to think of it all, right now I’m a little upset, so i can’t tell anything else.

That was my more positive take on all of this, at least i tried to find some proof it wasn’t entirely fake/irrelevant, maybe you have something wiser to add here. But personally i’m disappointed. I feel like an idiot now. Seems I’m as bad wannabe-detective as Anderson. Or even worse. I apologize again. :(

ANOTHER UPDATE

@peggymarsh

Unfortunately yes, I’ve seen it there. Even more frames. People on YT were guessing

it might be one of those cheap old idiotically-colored porn videos. Hmm.

@gemfangirl

asked if it isn’t actually Mary’s eye. Here’s my answer:

Damn you might be right. The main recently reoccuring “secret” not secret villain is Mary, not

Moriarty, or Eurus, or Culverton. They seem to be almost minor compared to this hell that’s

currently going on with Mary. You know, the Murderous Mary, cofusion about “happy-housewife-Sherlock’s-best-friend-who-cares-i-shot-him” image presented in S4. She’s actually a most hated

character in fandom (aside from Irene Adler, lol) and her so called “development” in S4 is one of these things that make no sense.

This is all the logical and thinking part behind it. Now let’s have a look at photos for some comparision and, well…

I added the same sample of noise from the eye frame. The still is from Miss Me video message.

Glitches are confirmed fake but eye case is still open. What do you think?

UPDATE OF UPDATE

Guys there’s something completely fucked up about this gif. It started from @memrysapendragon pointing out she found a short clip including vhs glitch stuff on twitter, this particular clip: https://twitter.com/secretcinema/status/793098416444375040  Then i found most of those trames on Youtube by searching “vhs glitches” tag. The video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUoA-dKQhtc

It doesn’t contain Moriarty/Mary eye and I think it doesn’t contain a frame with a “sofa and tables” from the CCTV angle above the room, which i compared earlier to Baker Street. Now i read the comment section again and i noticed some people claimed the footage was stolen from a movie called V/H/S/2. I googled it and it appears to be some shitty horror/gore movie made from a few separate stories, and one of them included someone finding old vhs tapes with “scary shit”.

A really shitty movie, i can tell from screens i’ve seen in graphics, and what i read about it in general, so i don’t recommend it, don’t waste your time if you’re not actually a fan of things like that. Couldn’t bring myself to watch this shit, so i can’t confim it’s true but some people wrote it’s from V/H/S/2. I don’t know. Others however didn’t even know the source of the footage and this youtube short is widely considered to be just a collection of samples which people download for their purposes. Hell, it’s been used in some promo video on this Twitter account, while this whole “Secret Cinema” account has nothing to do with horror movies.

Does it mean thelostspecial.com is fake? Or there is some purpose behind this confusion? It’s getting weirder and weirder tbh

32. “Keep your eyes on me.” for andreil, please?

Hello, I have finally done this! Look at me actually doing things! :)

(Note: don’t be Andrew in this. The fish are trying to quit smoking; don’t enable them.)

Sometimes, Neil couldn’t quite think about his time on the run in a straightforward sort of way. It all twisted in on itself, becoming something summarized and nonlinear. There were posted signs all around it in Neil’s brain: Do not attempt to touch the memory lump; do not attempt to feed the memory lump.

So, when Matt asked, Neil really couldn’t say how long ago it had been that he’d been on a boat. Eight names. That was all he could say about it – eight names ago. How many years ago, how old he’d been, he couldn’t really say for sure.

Andrew would know. Andrew would be able to translate. But Andrew had disappeared for the moment, and Neil couldn’t very well say to Matt, “It was back when my name was Stefan.” So, Neil shrugged.

Thoughts I haven't seen on the Character from episode 9 yet.

(Aka:  NOT assuming they are Keith’s mom or Prince Lotor)

Here is some additional speculation that doesn’t really fit in the other theories I have seen presented.  I scoured the episode for a moment Keith and the Galra are close enough to get a relatively accurate size comparison.  I mean, they are crouched so there is some flexibility here, but they appear to be around the same size.

In previous shots when they were far away, the Galra appeared a LITTLE bigger but it’s nothing more than the kind of difference you would get between body types (for example: Keith vs Shiro.  Both human…kind of, but different mass)

POINT BEING, we have seen Galra be HUGE.  Not all of them are massive like Sendak but most of them are at least noticeably bigger than humans.  Even compared to Shiro who is the most massive of our human cast:

And the Blade of Marmora, who appear to be on the smaller side for Galra (except Antok, who is notably larger than the rest.  so much so that he was able to keep Keith’s entire body pinned with mostly just his knee)

So maybe this is a half-breed like Keith, or maybe they’re not a Glara at all.

That could very well be a stolen ship and armor.  For all we know, that could be Matt who has escaped and joined a rebellion (though, that is a bit unlikely I think).

And not to mention, at the end of the episode, this person made sure to make off with a bag of scultrite.  The fact that the dealer at the Space Mall had no clue his “glass table toppers” were actually Teleduv lenses kinda tells me that Teleduvs are a pretty old method of creating wormholes.  The ship is 10,000 years old after all, and technology has doubtless come a long way since then.  Either way, just based on that and some design choices I don’t think the empire uses it anymore.  So if this person was a Galra, I can’t think of a reason they would want Teladuv lenses.  Though scultrite can be used for a lot of other things, so maybe that is completely irrelevant.  I think this person could even be an Altean in disguise.

Point being, I think there are more possibilities to this character than just Keith’s mother or Prince Lotor (which are the main theories I have seen around)  That being said, if it IS either of them, I will be beyond pleased.

Just some thoughts to chew on.

I’ve seen loads of Gay/Lesbian and Transgender/nonbinary brothers and sisters get attacked by fake-woke uwu bullies lately due to how they identify sexually and contrary to fake-woke self righteous white people politics that is really not okay, because here’s the thing; Nothing about gender makes it more valid as a basis for attraction than sex.
If attraction based on sex is reducing people to their genitals then attraction based on gender is reducing people to their pronouns, so you’re fine
. Scientists didn’t repeatedly prove that we’re born with our sexuality innately and that many species of animals exhibit homosexuality and ignore/refuse to interact with the opposite sex even as scientists tried to get them to mate only for you to be like “Yo homosexual penguins, stop reducing other peguins to their genitals”. This newly adopted fake-woke ideology recently has warranted attacks on trans and gay and erased how sex has been a determining factor in our oppression as lgbt in different ways. Literally nothing about gender makes it the should-be basis of attraction or more relevant to one’s character than sex, specially when we grow up in a society that literally determines everything about an infant from their position to be, roles, expectations and entire existence/experience based on whether they have a penis or a vagina(and even intersex kids with ambiguous genitals are socialized based on how “close enough” their bits are to one pair or the other) as they map it out where sex and gender are synonymous and thus why transphobia hurts ppl.
So leave Gay, Trans and nonbinary people who identify with their sexuality exclusively and experience exclusive sexual orientation alone. Your new-found beliefs/understanding of character have developed and existed for a whole of 5 minutes while LGBT(and nonbinary ppl) been living like this for years. Stop literally celebrating gay men’s murder and persecution by saying “yeah lol, penis-fetishizing creeps deserve it and I hope they all get put in camps and choke tbh” stop celebrating a Nigerian woman’s rape because you think she’s a “creepy vagina fetishist” or it is not the right way to be gay. Stop claiming to be lgbt positive blogs then constantly be reblogging these Neo-“hearts not parts” posts of 2k17 that you do not realise the undertones of are used against homosexual, bi and trans/nonbinary people in awful ways, calm down, it’s not the first time our sexuality has been credited to genitial obsession, you’re not original, that’s LITERALLY homophobia 101 boo and what homosexuality is defined as to bigots. Also stop being racist, not every culture has been introduced to John money, the white feminist movement of the 50s and a gender psychology studies class (entirely based on western experience), you can’t be out here calling gay Ethiopian Men trash for not agreeing with your western queer politics. You’re both homophobic and Transphobic. The sex element is what has been centeral to our opression both as cis and trans, we got persecuted when both people in the relationship were the same sex because that’s precisely the element they see as deviant, unnatural.

Acting like sex based attraction is just a superficial physical thing that’s not deep and not really about loving the person themselves and that somehow gender is deeper is hilarious because sex isn’t just some irrelevant part of who we are, sex has deepy affected us all(acknowledging that don’t invalidate nobody, like it’s just a thing that’s a thing), it’s why sexism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia exist and it shaped our lives, sex is a physical characteristic (like skin color) that has shaped our perception, pov, mental and psychological structure/development due to treatment and conditioning, prespective due to conditioning, socialization, wiring, interaction with society and who we are today as a result of all that experience being a part of us, sex is an experience and something that heavily influences one’s character not just genitals (just like how race and being black isn’t just “dark skin having” and is something that heavily affects who we are and our character due to how we get treated) and thus it’s a very deep rooted complex mental and psychological thing that isn’t just superficial. Pretending sex is just “*insert genitial pair* having" is like saying being a certain race is “dark skin having” , neither are just constructs of having something but physical characteristics/material realities that society has based our treatment on and have a deeply rooted a historical structure in society based on em. (This is exactly like when “progressive” hippie white people first got involved in activism and said irrelevant things like “I don’t see color” like race hadn’t shaped our lives and oh slavery? That old thing, so irrelevant.) When it comes to sexuality no one can reevaluate anything because that would suggest that sexuality is a conclusion, not an innate primal thing that’s as innate as our skin color, in our Dna, it entails that being gay is a thought-driven decision that leads to a conclusion we choose to make but that’s not the case and it didn’t take us years to prove we’re born this way away from all social structures/expectations . Whether we’re heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual we’re all born this way, we can’t change it. Hit me up when ya visit homosexual *insert the longest list of all animals that exhibit homosexuality* that ignore the presence of the opposite sex, not mating and be pissing off the church cause so I can watch you say “Hearts not parts Barbra, stop reducing monkeys to their genitials” like??? Sex is just as important as gender. Sex determines and shapes our lives from childhood, my life has been shaped by 2 things; my skin color and my sex and it hasn’t been great. Leave trans & nonbinary peeps who’s attraction is sex based alone and stop calling them fake/betraying, y'all attack Trans brothers and sisters then call gay men and women “ creepy disgusting genitials obsessed fetishistic pedophiles-like freaks”. You homophobic and Transphobic nasty stop, it aint cute and it’s transparent af. At this point who said it anymore? Homophobic Conversion therapist from the 50s or fake-woke white tumblr kid? Homosexuality has existed for years primally and innately, your new-found ideological awakenning because you took an entirely western based gender-studies has existed for a whole of minutes, leave lgbt alone.
