A/N: This is the fifteenth installment in my first ever fanfic. It’s the showdown you’ve all been waiting for. Lee and Han (@wheresthekillswitch and @hannahindie) were my beautiful betas for this. When are they not my betas? I love them so much. If you’re not following them, you should be. These words, like everything else I write, are for me. Feel free to join me in the adventure.
It started one night as I’d gotten out of my truck to head into the house. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and the weight of someone’s eyes caused me to quickly spin around, arms raised defensively as I searched for the onlooker. Arlo, feeling my uneasiness, immediately went tense beside me and growled low in his throat. We both scanned the surrounding area, picking up on the slightest movements and the faintest sounds. When nothing materialized, I quickly unlocked the door and backed into the house, my gun being the first thing I retrieved upon securing the door behind me. Nothing happened that night, but I did a triple round of the area and kept my gun tucked into the back of my waistband.
Part of me felt silly, a part that continued to grow until I placed my gun back into its hiding spot by my bed with a small chuckle. I was just being paranoid. I cursed my old hunter instincts that were obviously out of practice. I pushed the feeling of unease to the side and then completely away. I went to bed and only gave it a second or third thought before drifting off to sleep.
