TW: Acephobia in ACOWAR Preview

Heads-up to all my ace followers/ace SJM fans. If you’re interested in reading the ACOWAR preview (the first eight chapters on Overdrive), just be aware that there’s some pretty blunt acephobia in Chapter 3. I’ll put the specific line in question below the cut, but MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING because I honestly felt like I was punched in the face personally by Sarah J. Maas when I read it. I just wanted to let you all know so you aren’t blindsided like I was.

I’m not tagging it with spoiler tags because I want people to see this and I don’t want my ace friends hurt if they’re blocking tags. But do not continue reading if you want to remain spoiler free.

EDIT: I added the rest of the context because that helps inform why this is acephobic. Alone, it might not have read that way.

@inspectorwired - right? and not only that, the fact that they seem to be missing that yes, the ship does have a power imbalance, and no, it’s not “okay” - but that’s all part of it. that’s half the reason i find it interesting to write. i guess i missed the memo where fandom is now only for pure and healthy ships, despite it all being FICTIONAL.

@yuriyuu - lmao, you are blessed. seriously, they obviously went through reading a load of victurio posts in the tag because…? they are masochistic? they felt like expressing their moral outrage so they could feel self-righteous?

do we need to go back fifteen years and start adding “don’t like, don’t read” to everything again? i often wonder if this is a lot of people’s first fandom, or they’ve never been in a fandom outside of tumblr before. because…. victurio is nothing compared to what most fandoms have.

anonymous asked:

Ok let me start by saying I'm in love with your blog, it's absolutely the best and I love what you do!! I was wondering if you have anything on Yemeni Jews and their customs?

Thanks so much!

What do you mean by “have anything” — As in reading recommendations? I have a few tags for “Yemen,” “Yemenite Jews” [while the general demonym for people from Yemen is “Yemeni,” Jews from Yemen are most often referred to as “Yemenite” and not “Yemeni”], and “Temanim” (the term for Yemenite Jews in Hebrew).

I would start with some of these articles on virtualjewishlibrary and the Jewish Women’s Encyclopedia. If you have access to a university library you should be able to see the entry for Yemen in the Encyclopedia of Jews in the Islamic World. For academic work on Yemenite Jews, this anthology of essays by Yosef Tobi is essential, as is the work of Tudor Parfitt, Reuben Ahroni, Mark Wagner, Ari Ariel, Tova Gamliel, and Bat-Zion Eraqi-Klorman, on various episodes in Yemenite Jewish history. And of course if you can speak Hebrew there is much, much, more.

And then I would start researching whatever you were particularly most interested in! Clothes, food, music, dance, folktales… I’ve written about Yemenite Jewish henna traditions here, here, and here. Some of my favourite Yemenite singers to listen to are Ofra Haza, Shoshana Damari, and Gila Beshari (whom I was privileged to work with while I was researching in Israel some years ago). If you can speak Hebrew I would recommend this very sweet vintage documentary on Yemenite Jewish music which is very charming, if somewhat dorky and hyperbolic.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there’s anything more specific I can recommend.

I have a question for the, um, 5? people who follow me:
I am relatively new to tumblr.  I reblog/repost/whateveryoucallit things every so often, not a lot, but a few things here and there.  Mostly things I find pretty or recipes I want to try and the occasional Outlander thing.  My question is:  do I really need to tag or comment on my reblogs/posts/whatever?  I usually have nothing to say or add, but am I tumblring wrong by not adding any comments?  I read something on someone’s blog (can’t even remember who) recently and it got me wondering.  Thanks, in advance, for helping out!

anonymous asked:

Hey, so I'm trying to get my art noticed more on tumblr, and I was wondering if you had any tips for getting my art out there? And self-promoting?

Hi anon ^^

Thanks a lot for your questions!

There’s a couple of tips but, I’m not gonna lie, there are not a magic recipe either. It’s not because you’re gonna apply them that you suddenly gonna have 20k followers xD

You just have to remember a couple of things:

1) Tag your work with the right tags. The 5 first tags are important for referencing and referencing is THE KEY. Otherwise, you are invisible. You can have fun with the rest of the tags, people often have fun reading them but don’t mess with the first five.

2) Post regularly and interact with your followers. Share your squee about your projects, your inspirations, don’t hesitate to do Q&A with your crowd. Being noticed and gaining followers is great but making happy the ones who are already here is also important. If you want a good example, consulting-cannibal is the queen of happy interactions with her followers. Her blog is a permanent party. ^^

3) Post when America is awake. We know: freedom never sleeps…

…however Tumblr is more active when Americans are around. This site may be international but believe me, posting at certain hours counts. If you are not awake, you can still queue your art posts.

4) If people like your work, they will come and follow you. It’s even better if you “fill a gap” in a fandom or anywhere else. For instance, people started to get interested in my work because it was dark and because I was into death!art. It was a niche market but it appealed to some people who were more than happy to see Dean Winchester suffer and die every two days at my blog.

5) Don’t do it for the notes. It’s gonna ruin your work. Draw what you like IN YOUR OWN STYLE even if you think that nobody will care. Don’t copy any popular artist. It’s your unique style that is going to make people notice you. ^^

6) Tumblr has no logic: a doodle drawn on the edge of your kitchen table can have 20 000 notes and a super complex CG art you spent 25 hours can have 40. It’s unfair but it’s Tumblr. In other words, I know that it’s horrible but a drawing that you like and that you are proud of will maybe be ignored. Yes, even this art you spent hours and hours on it. Don’t let it discourage you and carry on posting in order to be noticed.

7) If you want people to hear about you, you can submit to blogs like eat-sleep-draw.

8) If you are into fandom stuff, you can sign up to challenges and exchanges on Tumblr. Go to your favorite tags and you’ll maybe see one or two floating around.

9) If you are really opportunistic and want celebrity (because fuck!), draw for “the fandom of the moment”. You always have “the fandom of the moment” on Tumblr. About two years ago, it was Welcome to Night Vale, Star Wars was popular a couple of months ago, now it seems to be Captive Prince. Steven Universe and anything Sailor Moon also seem to interest people a lot but not as much as this site’s n°1 obsession: Disney princesses. I guess it’s time to draw the Princesses as Star Wars characters or as Sailor Warriors for a maximum effect! Oh wait a second: Civil War is at the corner waiting! ^^

10) If everything fails, pose naked with “Click on my art tag” written on the butt. If it doesn’t make people come, I don’t know what will, anon. *sigh*

11) Speaking of! Having an art tag and by extension, an organized blog is vital. It’s important in order to have your art noticed. People HATE scrolling and spending more than 4 seconds looking for your art. Example: Someone notice your art while browsing their favorite tag. They want to see more, they click on your blog but…your blog is a mess. You missed the opportunity  to gain a follower and maybe a client if you take commissions and if you have a shop! Having a blog that is convenient goes hand in hand with self promoting. This includes:

  • A simple layout where you don’t have to look for the “page 2 button” during 3 hours
  • A layout with a font easy to read. I will never understand a 5 pt light blue font on a pink background.
  • An art tag (VISIBLE) if your blog is not a 100% art blog
  • A commission page with some examples of your works and your fees. DON’T UNDERPRICE YOUR WORK. If people want your art they will have to pay! A good example is the page of Lettie.

Voilà anon! The road to celebrity is no more under construction! Good luck to you, I hope it helped ♥

Setlock London 2016 ~ my photos for ‘nashyara’

OK, so I’m a small-fry in this Sherlock fandom. I reblog and enjoy other people’s wonderful art and stories but I don’t often post. I don’t know why? Laziness? Lack of ideas? People won’t bother to read it? People aren’t interested in me basically? Anyway I digress. There is someone who has shown me enough interest for me to write some words down. Someone who has been with me almost from the beginning when I first signed into tumblr. Someone who tags me, encourages me to join in and I never do. Why? Probably for all or some of the reasons listed above.
That person is nashyara. I would just like to say ‘thank you’ and send you the biggest hugs because you are a special person.
Nashyara… this is for you. Just two of the photos I took at the recent setlock in London. Of course, they are here for all the special people that I follow and who follow me with love but I wish to dedicate them to that special person who found a way to make this introvert feel included (even though as I speak, I am running back into my shell and closing the curtains)(yes, I have curtains in my shell!)

Hi. I’m here to propose something for those who tag hate on Arc-v character’s tags. The short version is: Please make another hashtag for the character you hate on; one where you can spared all the hate you wants, without making the fans of the same character uncomfortable.

If you don’t care it’s completely ok, but if you wonder “why should I stop tagging hate if I think Dennis is a complete asshole/ Serena’s been ruined like any other female character/ Jack never should’ve appear in Arc-v …” then I really recommend reading this.
