i never know if i should include the dash or not

Some Tips On Organic Chemistry
  1. When you’re looking at two compounds and wondering how they may react, pay attention to the carbons - if they are bonded to a halogen or something more electronegative than them, then they have a partial positive charge and they’re going to want anything that will give them more electrons (a.k.a. a nucleophillic attack). If they’re bonded to hydrogen, they have a partial negative charge and they become your nucleophile, which will want to give those electrons to something that’s lacking them. Once you get these basics down, mechanisms become much easier to memorize because you can see the logic in them and sometimes predict them.

  2. Get the basic mechanisms ingrained in your brain. Think of SN1, SN2, E1 and E2 as your new multiplication table. Make flashcards about them and take them to class. Or put them at the back or front of your notebook. Just have them handy at all times.

  3. Draw the final steps in 3D. ALWAYS. You can draw the mechanisms and the first steps in 2D because it will make it easier to understand, but never forget that you’re working with a 3D structure that can flipped (and attacked by nucleophiles) every which way. Also, if you don’t know the basic perspectives used in orgo (Fischer, Newmans, sawhorse, wedge-dash) please take half an hour to learn them. Mainly wedge-dash and Fischer, but Newman is very useful when deciding which position you should put your atoms in if you’re dealing with sin and anti.

  4. Colors. If you’re one of those people who ONLY writes in black pen, awesome, keep using it for WRITING. For reactions though, you’re going to want options. you’ll need to differentiate between:

    • The molecules (same color for atoms and bonds, unless you want to finish your notes on your deathbed).
    • Your three types of arrows: electron flow, actual steps in the reaction (think intermediates) and steps you may take to make it clearer for you but that happen at the same time.
    • Formal charges
    • The electrons that stay with its original atom and the ones that are given/shared, if you’re like me and you like your mechanisms to be spelled out.
    • This is not an excuse to go nuts with the coloring, 3 colors are enough. Personally, I use purple for molecules, electrons and reaction arrows, black for electron flow arrows and charges and light blue for clarification step arrows. Also optional but to denote a homolytic fission I usually write a blue line perpendicular to the bond. Similarly, if two atoms share one electron each, instead of just one them donating both electrons, I link said electrons with blue.
    • Remember to be consistent, otherwise you’ll end up like me, looking at your notes from the beginning of the semester and wondering if that dash is a bond or a -1 formal charge (to avoid this, preferably circle formal charges. Lol I never do this but I should).
  5. Flashcards are so helpful! Write the reactants on one side and the mecanism and products on the other. Test yourself until you are one with the electrons.

  6. If it’s a concerted mechanism, number the arrows. You’ll thank yourself a month from now.

  7. Khanacademy. Khanacademy will save your butt when it comes to mechanisms. Chemwiki is likely to have anything that Khanacademy doesn’t. If it isn’t in either of those, Google images just became your new best friend. Books also tend to explain those nicely but I personally find them to be poorly structured and they usually include much more info than what you’ll actually be requiered to know. If you have the time to read two pages on a reaction though, by all means go for it.

  8. Study in advance. Good luck studying for your final two days before if you don’t understand the mechanisms and you don’t have your material organized. Seriously, don’t do it. A week before the exam you could make those flashcards mentioned above. They’re a great way to review but it will be impossible if you are learning these things from scratch.

  9. Get your hands on past tests. This goes for any subject but especially for orgo. Try to get a past test or at least ask an upper-classman who’s taken orgo with that professor. Does his/her tests focus on mechanisms? Retrosynthesis? Or does he/she give you the reactants and ask what the product is or what environment they should be in to obtain x? Ideally, you should be able to answer any of these if you know the material. However, if they focus on retrosynthesis, it may be a little tricky, so make sure to cater your study techniques to that.

  10. You should also check out @colllegeruled’s Surviving Organic Chemistry, it’s super helpful and it has lots of resources (seriously, you introduced me to Khanacademy, I OWE YOU MY LIFE).

So, this is what I can offer so far. I hope it shines at least a faint light into the dark path that is organic chemistry.

Heeey. Sorry if I disturb you by something or anything but could you maybe list some good shows? (It's not a must that LGBT couples are included) thanks a lot ❤️❤️💫

Hi, Anon!

You’re not disturbing!

So I’m the type of person that watches a pretty random variety of shows so I’m not sure what your taste leans toward exactly.

If you have any suggestions, make a comment or drop me a message with the show and why you like it! And if you want, make a suggestion on how to make this list better!

** Is for shows other people suggest to me. I’ll comment if I’ve heard of it or seen any of it.

*I’ll try to put if it’s LGBT friendly. And also I want to put down if it’s diverse or not and a note if you suggest a show is diverse…I’m looking for either the main character that is a POC or more than 1-2 minor characters that show up often enough to make a difference to the plot. Don’t tell me a show is diverse if it’s 3 black characters are just window-dressing…👀

Let me see what I can remember and rec those and what I tried and didn’t like.

  • -Shadowhunters: I love this trash show. It’s actually not all that great but it’s got some absolute gems of characters you end up watching it for anyway. I def recommend but S1 was watched with a ton of skip Clary/Jace scenes for me. This is LGBT friendly and diverse.
  • -Riverdale: I tried man, I used to read Archie comics when I was younger but um, this show…I think it’s supposed to be ironically pretentious? It just falls flat for me tbh. It’s popular though so you can check a couple of episodes out to see if it’s your thing. There’s an openly gay character in this that should get more story than he does. Also, kind of LGBT baits too at times so not sure if I trust them completely.
  • -The Expanse: My sci-fi pick. I love this show. It’s gorgeous, diverse, rich story, funny without trying too hard. I just get sucked into every character. It had one older married gay couple that was really minor characters but I don’t recall any current mains that are. But It’s an inclusive show so I don’t think it’s particularly averse to the idea. Based on books I haven’t read yet!
  • -Veep: This is like a completely meant-to-be-offensive comedy show with the amazing Julia Louis-Dreyfus. While I wasn’t in love with the last 2 seasons, the first 4 are amazing. No clear cut character you root for in particular but it’s so close to politics you can’t help but laugh/cry. Watch it for the absolutely unapologetic legendary burns. Also, has a lesbian couple in it although it’s offensive comedy so prepare for that.
  • -Archer: Also another meant-to-be-offensive show that’s hilarious but so terrible and inappropriate. I don’t usually like that kind of comedy but I binge watched this when I was sick and got hooked.
  • -Vikings: I love this show. If you like Game of Thrones, you’ll like this one only it’s got less nudity and more idgaf fight scenes. It’s got brilliant characters, beautiful battle scenes, really interesting storylines, and just good snarky humor. Watch it! Also, they’re not shy about same-sex couples even if they don’t explicitly say it.
  • -Mr. Robot: Really good show, very different and…I actually don’t know how to describe it? The main has mental health issues. It’s a sociopolitical commentary type show. It’s about hacking and network security and corporation conglomerates in control of our everything and the fight against it. Also from @cherryrebel : mr robot has a shit ton of diversity in both race and lgbt, the lead is mixed race but the actor is egyptian, tyrell is bisexual, gideon is gay, angela, elliot and darlene are implied being lgbt+, i think i’m forgetting about someone but watch that show, it’s the shit
  • -Legion: A superhero show that’s so incredibly NOT like the other superhero shows. You'll find yourself in a serious mind trip thinking you’re the one that’s crazy. But it’s really really good. Go watch.
  • -Mozart in the Jungle: About a bunch of musicians and a crazy conductor you absolutely love. It’s really good. LGBT friendly! And diverse-ish.
  • -Luther: One of the best crime shows in my opinion. Idris Elba just does things and you will want to watch him do it. Anything he does is beautiful and brilliant. But the show actually IS brilliant and amazing and go watch!!
  • -This is Us: one of those, where-the-hell-did-you-come-from?? shows. Really heartfelt stories that make you laugh, cry, and go aww a million times.
  • -Killjoys: Another sci-fi show I love. It’s got diversity and great characters and great action and story.
  • -True Detective: Crime detective show. It’s great, very gritty and serious but good stories and character-driven.
  • -Humans: Sci-fi show about android robots that are part of normal life- they look human and are basically live in maids. Only five of these have consciousness. Really good UK show. Diverse AND LGBT friendly!
  • -Broadchurch: Another good UK crime show. Slow and gripping. @iamacolor mentioned a lesbian character in this one too. LGBT friendly.
  • -The Americans: Russian sleeper spies in America that lead normal lives, have American children, and are like totally Russians carrying out secret missions.
  • -The Get Down: Great show that was recently canceled :( has about 1 season out. I’m not sure how to describe it and do proper justice. It’s lovely though with amazing characters. Also, LGBT friendly and clearly diverse!
  • -Stranger Things: Great show sci-fi mystery thriller type show.
  • -Dear White People: Black college students from all kinds of backgrounds dropping truth bombs all around and being amazing. Also LGBT friendly. Go watch. It’s a balanced show with amazing characters. So both diverse AND LGBT friendly!
  • -Brooklyn Nine-Nine: an Amazing funny cop show that manages to be winsome, hilarious, endearing, quirky, diverse, balanced, and just amazing all around. V. LGBT friendly.
  • -Fresh Off the Boat: Asian family comedy show that’s endearing and hilarious. (Also check out Jane the Virgin for crazy telenovela-esque antics that are hilarious and cute).
  • -Orphan Black: Sci-fi show about clones. A really amazing show, LGBT friendly. Great story AMAZING characters…most of which is played by one woman. Diverse and LGBT friendly.
  • -Preacher: Great show based on the graphic novel…uhh not sure how to describe it but it’s good. Reth Negga is in it!!
  • Also adding Sense8 for its LGBT and diversity. Good show but I’ve heard something about the directors/producers being racist? Not sure so I’m recommending with caution because the show itself esp s2 where the nonwhite characters got a better fleshed out plot is good. But since I don’t know what the producers/directors have done, I’m giving a heads up for someone else to fill me in.
  • Poldark: I just started this one 2 days ago. 2 episodes in I’m really enjoying it. It’s from PBS’s Masterpiece series. Aiden Turner as a Cornishman is delicious. So far I adore his wife and immensely enjoying yet another period show.
  • Grantchester: Adding this to the list after I discovered it on my prime account. I’m only one season in and I love Sydney Chambers and his gruff buddy cop Geordie? This isn’t a show that is going to have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s totally a procedural type of show. But it’s characters are likeable, it’s story feels comfortable, and honestly, if it’s a shitty day for you and you just want something that’s easy? This is it. @iamacolor  :)

Missing

A/N: Well here it is, my first Eggsy fic. This is all thanks to @writingruna who, after learning that I was thinking about writing for Eggsy, sent me a bunch of requests to help motivate me to do it. It worked and here’s one of those requests.

The Kingsman never had a rule put in place about agents dating each other. At the time of the organization’s creation, they didn’t feel the need to. Becoming an agent meant making sacrifices. The unspoken assumption was that this meant giving up a chance at falling in love.

That assumption was made on the belief that falling in love with someone outside of Kingsman could only end badly. A relationship was meant to be built on the truth, and telling the truth was one of the many things an agent couldn’t afford to do. Secrecy was the most important aspect of the organization. There was also the fear that personal connections could become liabilities out in the field. What if an agent’s significant other was kidnapped and used as leverage by the enemy? Or worse, killed to exact revenge?

Love was complicated enough on its own. By adding a person’s status as a Kingsman into the mix, that equation suddenly became an unsolvable one.

It was nice of Sansa to say that she was almost done poking and prodding and adjusting your dress, even if you all knew that it was a lie. Sansa had and affinity for dressing you up, claiming that if she tried it with Arya, she would lose a finger. You couldn’t say that the idea was entirely off base.

The dress was lovely. It looked a bit delicate in comparison to the usual style that ladies favored in Winterfell.  It was somehow different and you’re the same as the dresses that you favored on an everyday basis. Although you had lived in Winterfell for most of your life, your mother and father had lived much farther south.

So, you tended to favor lighter dresses, made of silk and lace in a wide array of colors. Jon liked to tease you that you were the brightest thing to ever live in Winterfell. What you didn’t know is how much Robb silently agreed with him. The dress was white, with layers of gray peeking through towards the bottom. It was lovely, although you had no idea how Sansa had managed such a lovely effect in the short amount of time since she had asked you about making a dress.

“I may have been working on it for a little while before I asked if it was okay,” she said, picking it up off of the bed and motioning for you to change into it. “But I knew that you were going to say yes anyways.”

You laughed, she was right. You had a hard time telling people no, especially when they were doing something so nice for you. After all, the Starks were your family. And if they were willing to put the time in to help you, then there was no way that you were going to refuse. It did make your schedule feel a bit cramped at times, in between dagger lessons with Arya and the boys, knitting with Sansa and tea with Lady Stark, who was forever insisting that you call her Catelyn, there were never enough hours in the day, something you often fought about with Robb.

“Well then, put it on!” Sansa laughed, tossing you the dress and pulling out her needle and thread, claiming that there were a few alterations that needed to be made. Sansa worked in silence, adding a few stitches here and there. And somehow, when she was done, the dress looked even more spectacular. She had managed to somehow make it fit you like a glove at the top, yet have the perfect amount of sway and flow in the skirts.

“Thank you, Sansa,” you said, admiring the skirts in her mirror. If you hadn’t been so caught up in how nice it was for Sansa to make you this lovely dress, you might have noticed the smug look on her face as she admired you admiring her dress. And you might have noticed that you were wearing in the Stark family’s colors. “But I really think that I should go see if your mother needs help preparing-”

“I was downstairs with her all morning. While you were fretting over nothing, I was making sure that you didn’t have an excuse to run away.” She laughed, guiding you over to the chair that was set up in front of her mirror. “Now, you have to stay and let me do something with this.” She sighed, motioning to the braid that you wore every day. Sansa took your braid in her hands, making quick work of fanning it out across your shoulders, running a brush gently through the ends or your hair.

“I cannot understand why you never take the time to style your hair unless I force you to. You know that anyone would do anything for you.” Sansa rain her hands through your hair, twisting it one way and then another, attempting to choose a style for that evening.

“I would rather spend my time with other engagements. And I’m sure that every single person in this castle has at least five things that they need to be doing at any given time. And shockingly, none of them include helping me with my hair.” You laughed, raising an eyebrow at her in the mirror.

“And does one of those things include pretending that you aren’t in love with my brother? Or is that simply a given, considering it is something that you do every waking minute of every day?”

You felt yourself tense, your shoulders locking back into place and your teeth grinding against each other. Sansa, on the other hand, continued brushing your hair into place, humming a soft tune to herself. You wished that you had an appropriate comeback, but you were left to sit there, mouth agape, while Sansa fussed with your hair for longer than should have been possible.

You’d hoped that you would have a bit of time to yourself before the feast that evening, but Sansa had insisted that a bit of rouge had never hurt anyone. By the time that she decided you were ready, the both of you were late.

“A queen never arrives at her own party on time.” Sansa laughed as you hurried down the hall. You hated to be late, and it seemed that the only time you were more than a few seconds late to anything was when Sansa insisted on helping you get ready.

“Then it’s really too bad that I am not a queen.” you reminded her, withholding a glare.

She snorted at you in a very un Sansa-like way, simply brushing past you and breezing easily into the banquet. You, on the other hand, were not nearly as confident. You took a moment to steady yourself, a moment to catch your breath, before stepping into the banquet hall.

The noise and liveliness of the hall erupted around you, pulling you in. You glanced around, taking in the musicians and the dancers that took up most of the space in the large banquet hall. And as much as you didn’t want to admit it, you were elated to see Robb standing with Jon and Theon near the edge of the dance floor.

You gathered up your expansive skirts, making your way along the edge of the room to the boys.

“Well don’t you just look dashing in the Stark colors?” Jon teased you, gesturing for you to do a twirl.

You landed a punch on his arm, not hard enough to actually hurt him, but firm enough to tell him to shut his big mouth, paired with an expression that told him you were going to pretend to be cross with him for a while. “If you must know, your lovely sister made me this gown, and as usual I had no say about the colors. But, I’m sure that it is just coincidence.” You attempted to sound sincere, even though you knew what Sansa was most likely thinking when she was picking out the material.

You pretended to listen to the boys ramble on about one thing or another, but your eyes were scanning the room in search of Arya. You knew that she was not particularly fond of feasts, so you always made a point to seek her out and reassure her, even if it was only for a few minutes. After few moments of searching, you spotted her, slumped into a chair, looking like she would much rather be anywhere else but here.

You felt Robb’s hand rest on the small of your back, attempting to draw your attention away from the very important matter at hand. “Y/N, do you want to-”

“Maybe in a minute, Robb,” you said, already making your way over to Arya, not even bothering to look back towards the sound of Jon’s booming laughter.

“Arya!” you laughed, taking her hands in your own and pulling her out of the chair. “Won’t you come and dance with me?”

“You know that I have been skipping my lessons,” she mumbled, refusing to meet your eyes. Somehow, she was in a worse mood than usual.

“I never said that we were going to make our way through the most boring waltz in existence.” You were already halfway to the band, who looked almost as morose as Arya, which wasn’t surprising when you thought about the music that they were being forced to play. “If this is to be the mood for the entire evening, we are all going to die of boredom.”

You let go of Arya’s hands for a few moments to whisper your instructions to the band. They all seemed to perk up immediately, sitting up in their chairs, the light coming back into their eyes. The tune changed from the sullen one that you had grown accustomed to hearing, to one that was jubilant and full of life. Reclaiming Arya’s hands in your own, your spun her around, prancing around in ridiculous circles until a smile finally graced her lips, and then a small laugh bubbled through, and you knew that your work was done.

You gave her one last smile, twirling her in another circle before stumbling off of the dance floor. All of the spinning had made you a bit dizzy, and with all of the skirts that Sansa had swaddled you up in, you weren’t surprised that you had nearly tripped a few times before you had even made it away from the dancers.

Robb’s hand found the small of your back, guiding you away from the mass of bodies that had swarmed the dance floor. You would have been surprised, especially because you hadn’t thought that Robb was anywhere near you, but he had a habit of turning up when you needed someone.

“What was it that you wanted earlier?” You asked breathlessly, collapsing into the chair that he had guided you to.

“Do you remember when my mother was so angry at us for sneaking into these feasts that she made us attend all of those dreadful dancing lessons?” Robb asked, smiling at Arya dancing with Rickon among the masses.

“Of course I do,” you laughed, recalling the many afternoons you had spent with your slightly nasty dance master. “Your mother was so sure that we would never turn up to another ball again if we had to take those lessons, but you were at every single lesson.”

“Naturally, you were so excited, and there was no way that I was going to miss it when you tripped over your own two feet.”

“If I recall correctly, you were always responsible for catching me after I messed up a new step.” You lazily punched him in the shoulder, but the laughter died in your throat as Robb caught your fist and linked his hand with yours.

“And I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

It wasn’t the act of holding his hand in yours that caused your breathing to falter. You had been holding pinkies since you had met, so after that, what was a hand? It was the way that his eyes were staring into yours, unwavering. For the first time in a long time, you felt yourself blushing because of Robb Stark.

It wasn’t something that happened often, the two of you had grown up together, after all. Your mother had been best friends with Cat, and when they passed away, it was no question that you were going to stay with Ned and his family.

You had been quiet when you arrived at Winterfell for the first time. It had only been a day or two since your mother and father had moved on, taken from you suddenly by a terrible affliction. You were assured that your friends would all be waiting for you, but that wasn’t good enough. You wanted your parents.

And even though you constantly reminded Robb of that, he was there for you at every turn. Bringing you a flower he found near a spring, hoping to make you smile, or telling you a poorly thought out joke, just waiting for just a glimpse of the dimples he used to know so well. And as much as you wanted to give him a glimpse of your former self, you needed time. Somehow, even at such a young age, both of you understood. And you had remained solemn, until one afternoon, he heard a giggle echoing from her chambers.

Robb threw open the door to find you sifting through a drawer full of dried flowers, picking them up one by one and examining them. He marched into the room, demanding to know why you had been so sad before. You never had been able to give him an answer, simply handing him one of the flowers and telling him that you were sorry. You never had offered him an explanation for those first few weeks.

“Y/N?” Robb’s voice and both of his hands cupping yours somehow managing to effectively draw you back to reality. “Are you okay?” his voice was soft, almost as if he was afraid to scare you away. He should know better than that by now.

“I was thinking about when I first came to live with you, well everyone. And you worried yourself over making me feel welcome, and you were so confused when you found me with that drawer full of flowers.” You sounded dreamy, still thinking about the days when things felt easier.

“You never did tell me why you kept all of those flowers. Especially when they never made you smile in the first place.” He smiled down at your hands, where his thumb was stroking the back of your hand.

“Because I knew that they were going to make me happy eventually,” You met his eyes, hoping that he understood what you were trying to tell him. “And I was right, wasn’t I?” Robb looked like he was going to answer, but you were finished wasting time moping about when there was a party going on. “Let’s dance, Stark.”

And without another word, the two of you were out of your chairs and headed for the dance floor. The musicians had kept their promise, and the music was lively. You were pleased to see that Arya had dragged Sansa into a group of dancers, and it brought a smile to your face to see that everyone was happy, for the time being. It was rare to stumble upon a moment where someone wasn’t squabbling, and when you managed to find one, you most certainly weren’t going to take it for granted.

X-Men Preference - Spin the Bottle

X-Men Preference – Spin the Bottle

You couldn’t believe you’d been talked into a game of ‘spin the bottle’. You felt somewhat childish as you sat in a circle of various potentials, losing the ‘nose game’ which decided who had to go first spinning the bottle. Nervously, you spun the bottle that was placed in the middle of the circle, watching as it went around quickly until it finally slowed and landed on…

ALEX SUMMERS

Alex. He didn’t even know how he’d been convinced to sit in on this ridiculous game. A bunch of “ooooo”’s echoed in the room, Scott giving his brother an encouraging thumbs up as he knew full well that Alex had had a crush on you for a really long time. Alex rolled his eyes, attempting to seem as if he wasn’t nervous but in reality, everyone could see the blush that had appeared on his cheeks.

He looked up from the bottle, meeting your nervous gaze and you shrugged your shoulders, giving him a small smile.

“Fuck it,” Alex muttered, sitting on his knees and leaning across the circle until his lips met yours.

For most players that went first in Spin the Bottle, they’d give a quick kiss to the person that the bottle landed on. However, for you and Alex, both of you were more than a little eager as one of his hands reached up to cup your cheek and he used the other to lean on. Your lips moved desperately against one another’s, both of you having waited for this moment for far too long.

“Um, guys,” Scott said, clearing his throat as everyone around you were sitting with smirks on their faces, “you’re welcome to take this elsewhere but other people want to have a turn.”

You and Alex pulled away, both of you blushing furiously and Alex not being able to take his eyes off of you. He’d been wanting to do that since the moment he met you and despite the audience, kissing you for the first time was better than he could have imagined.

“That sounds like a really good idea, actually,” he agreed, getting to his feet and then helping you onto yours. You buried your head into Alex’s shoulder as he led the two of you away from the group, Peter wolf whistling while you made your escape.

CHARLES XAVIER

Charles. Charles had thought he’d safely got out of playing the game, standing next to Erik as the two of them were more watchers of the games than participants. He glowered at Raven who had been the one to leave a gap in the group so if the bottle landed in the gap it would be directed at Charles and he rarely prodded into Raven’s mind but this was different.

‘I hate you,’ he thought to her and she looked at him with a smirk, you sitting in utter confusion because you weren’t sure if your spin counted.

“Go on, (Y/N),” Raven just about yelled, “give Charles a good ol’ kiss!”

Erik snorted, pushing Charles towards you as you got onto your feet. Even Hank, who thought the game was stupid, was grinning quite widely.

“I mean, (Y/N), if this makes you uncomfor-,” Charles began saying nervously, only to be cut off as you wrapped your arms around him and kissed him. It might have been the alcohol you’d been drinking earlier that made you so confident, but you felt like you deserved to finally kiss the man you’d been in love with so long.

Charles stood in shock for a moment but kissed you back enthusiastically, wrapping his arms around your waist and then pulling you closer to him. Both of you smiled into the kiss, Raven and Hank high fiving because it was about damn time.

“You know, for a telepath, Charles, I thought you would’ve realised (Y/N) liked you,” Erik mused, you and Charles pulling away but your arms remaining around each other.

“Is there a button that’ll just make you go away?” Charles said, causing Raven to roll her eyes.

“It’s called getting a room, you crazy kids.”

ERIK LEHNSHERR

Erik. He swore he’d just been passing through and not participating in this game at all. He’d made it clear that he wasn’t to be included and yet the bottle had somehow ‘landed’ on him and now he was staring at you with his mouth slightly open and a red face.

“We should spin it again, Erik said he wasn’-,” Hank began but Erik began shushing him.

“I don’t mind doing it just this once, Hank. It did land on me,” Erik nearly tripped over his feet trying to get to you and you, rather confused, got onto your feet.

“Weren’t you just passing through?” you asked him, Erik shaking his head as the others smirked.

“Change of heart?”

“You’re an idiot,” you said before standing on your tippy-toes and kissing him gently. To your surprise, when you went to pull away, Erik pulled you closer to him and kissed you again. Everything seemed to feel right but the nerves began to fill Erik and he stepped away, his face a rather bright red.

“I can’t believe he finally did it.” Raven said loudly and Erik mumbled ‘sorry’ before dashing out of the room.

“I think that means he likes you?” Alex laughed and you childishly stuck out your tongue before going after the embarrassed mutant.

HANK MCCOY

Hank. The scientist’s heart seemed to get caught in his throat as you smiled encouragingly at you. Leaning across the circle, you gently grabbed him by the collar and pulled him towards you, kissing him quickly on the lips before going to move back to your spot. To your amazement, as you went to sit back, he took you by the collar and pulled you towards him and kissed you with just a bit more confidence and a bit more passion. You sighed into the kiss, your lips moving slowly together and Alex started slow clapping.

“And the beast finally gets the girl. What a moment!”

You and Hank pulled away, a giggle escaping your lips as Hank promptly gave Alex the middle finger.

KURT WAGNER

Kurt. He didn’t have much experience with girls and when the bottle landed on him, he considered shifting into the other room to avoid this. Everyone knew about his crush on you and to share his first kiss with you, in front of everyone, was extremely nerve-racking.

“Is this okay?” you asked him quietly, your face inches away from his and he gulped.

“Er – yes, very okay!”

He briefly looked around at everyone who was grinning encouragingly until suddenly, your lips were on his. Kurt felt like fainting, your lips much softer than he’d ever imagined and he cupped your face as he kissed you rather lovingly.

He was disappointed when you pulled away, you kissing his nose before turning back to the waiting group.

“What cuties,” Jean winked, “does this mean you’ll finally admit you like Kurt, (Y/N)?”

PETER MAXIMOFF

Peter. He had to do a double take when he realised that the bottle had landed on him and he thanked whatever God there was for having the bottle land on him. Peter wasn’t exactly good at hiding his feelings, his excitement written all over his face.

“Whoa,” you giggled when he was suddenly in front of you.

“Hi,” Peter grinned and then he kissed you. You almost forgot to kiss back in shock, feeling equally excited that you’d gotten the opportunity to kiss the silver headed boy that you’d had a crush on for ages. You flung your arms around his neck, kissing him back and Peter was almost buzzing in happiness.

“Hey lovebirds!” Scott yelled, “there are other people here, y’know.”

Peter leaned away, ignoring Scott, “wanna get out of here?”

“Thought you’d never ask.”

And then suddenly you were in the other room, not having time to recover from the quick movements as the two of you began to kiss once more.

SCOTT SUMMERS

Scott. His heart raced as his eyes met with yours, him giving a small smile as he tried to pretend that he wasn’t shitting himself in terror that he was going to make a fool of himself.

‘Just act cool, just act cool,’ Scott repeated in his head as the two of you began to lean over, ignoring the encouraging wolf whistles and comments. Everyone had been waiting for one of you to admit to each other that you liked one another but it seemed like it wouldn’t happen.

Your lips met halfway and you absentmindedly ran a hand through his hair, getting caught up in the moment as the two of you kissed eagerly. Both of you wanted to kiss just a little longer but you became very conscious of the watching eyes. Pulling away, Scott felt like he was no longer in control of what he said next.

“Man, I’ve been wanting to do that for ages,” he said, the smile on his face falling when he realised what he said and he quickly retreated back into the circle as you blushed furiously.

‘Me too,’ you mouthed to him before giving an amusing wink.

Quiet Village- Gaston

Gaston x Reader, I’ve never written one of these so you’ll have to excuse me if it is terrible.

Anyways, I’ve had this idea in my head, and since I know people are eating up imagines (myself included) I thought it wise to leave out my OC.

I must give credit to @luuuuuke-evans idea, Gaston survives his fall- cushioned by a snow bank, but still badly injured. He leaves Villeneuve in seek of medical aid.

Part 1  Part 2

The doll worked.

The others were still being weirdly affectionate with him–still giving him the occasional little touches that made his chest ache and set his skin on fire–but the doll soothed them. When he crawled into bed and snuggled into its embrace, the ache eased. Not all the way, but…well, that was always going to be true. He’d grown to accept that there would probably never be a perfect substitute for a real hug, but as far as he was concerned, this was close enough.

And besides, he’d never have to know the difference.

For @artemis-rae A collection of Percy/Annabeth set in canon universe. welcome back to the fandom! We missed you! Some of this fics were written in canon universe before the the last books came out, so now it can be also considered au’s. I didn’t included any fic from @greenconverses because I’ve a feeling you have read them all.

Privacy by books4belle

“Do you know the best thing about living in Cabin 3?” Percy slid his cheek along hers and brought his mouth close to her ear so he could whisper the answer: “Privacy.” Set between Last Olympian and The Lost Hero.

Things We Could Be by @rongasm

Three times that Annabeth is prematurely called Mrs. Jackson and one time that it’s long overdue.

Where We Go From Here by icy roses

How much of love depends on memory? Percy/Annabeth, post-TLH

Waiting for Tomorrow to Come by whispered touches

“Love is not knowing what you have until it’s gone.” Annabeth takes her time before she speaks, and “I love you” is no different. But she’ll regret her silence. Pre-TLH through SoN. One-shot.

Something Blue by @starksgrace

It’s five years after the Giant War and Percy has a question.

Rite of Passage by @ignitesthestars

Annabeth and Percy have dinner with Sally and Paul for the first time after they get together.

After by @ignitesthestars

It’s like this every time. She can remember thinking, four years ago now, that she didn’t know if it hurt more being with him, or without him. And every time the months and the distance stretches out a little further between them, she convinces herself that they’re definitely better apart. That a scarred heart is better than an open wound with him lodged inside it.

And then they see each other again, and she’s pitched right back into that uncertainty. Three and a half years should be enough to get over a boy, shouldn’t it?

A story of how Annabeth and Percy fell apart, and what it took to piece them back together.

Stained by @ignitesthestars

Annabeth has never baked cookies before. Percy decides to rectify this.

The Perils of Being Alone by @ignitesthestars

Set in some indeterminable post-Heroes of Olympus time. Annabeth and Percy realise that, for the first time in a very long time, they’re actually alone. With no chance of being interrupted. Banging ensues. (Explicit)

Table, Interrupting by Burst-ofSILENCE

Like many other things, it’s Percy and Annabeth’s fault why the Hedge hologram on Buford keeps yelling “PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!” Or: a continuing saga on how Percy and Annabeth can’t make out in peace. Percy/Annabeth

Witnesses by AnnabethLuna

Percy and Annabeth probably thought they were being subtle, but everyone knew about them even before they did. These are their “moments” from the perspectives of the people who just happened to be watching. Viewpoints include Beckendorf, Silena, Malcolm, Michael, Rachel, and more.

A Kiss for Luck by @suchastart

It’s all you can think about this summer: kissing Percy Jackson. Which is a total waste of energy, because there is entirely too much for you to think about. Kronos. The Titans. Mount Olympus. And while you’re trying to focus on all these other, more important things—like not dying—Percy Jackson walks around with his stupid, clueless face.

can’t you feel my heartbeat by @seaweedbraens

trusting is hard for demigods, and to love is even harder. percy and annabeth don’t have it easy. [bits and pieces from all the books :: percy/annabeth]

Tattoo by ricecookerwritings

She had disliked the tattoo from the start. It ignites their first argument since the reunion, but the patching up opens her eyes to new things. Set during the first day of MoA, all the culture clash, misunderstandings and comfort fluff I personally missed in the book. Bonus dash of Hazel/Annabeth friendship. One-shot.

All These Versions by conniehdez

They were together. They were alive. They were happy (ignoring the angry horde of Romans). Isn’t that what they were in all her scenarios? Together, alive, happy? Annabeth’s wasted plans to say “I love you”.

Everything by conniehdez

This is better. This – lying down on Percy’s bunk in Cabin 3 on a lazy summer afternoon, him hovering over her as though scared she might break, kissing to their heart’s content – is so much better. This is everything. Pre-TLH, Percabeth.

may the bridges i have burned light my way back home by @lesbabeths

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start,
anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

par for the course by @lesbabeths

She kind of wishes she could look away, but there’s nowhere else to look, because there’s an the elderly lady in the aisle next to them looking for soap who keeps scoffing at them and shooting them scandalized looks, and she’s also fairly certain that if she spares a glance at Percy, she’ll spontaneously combust from mortification and all that will be left of her is a sizzling pile of ashes on the floor.

Sight of the Sun by @psychohannahlyze

All things considered, Annabeth figured she did an okay job as a young mother.

Annabeth Wins a Bet by @bananannabeth

Not for the first time in her life, Annabeth wondered if she was the butt of some cosmic joke. She’d barely gotten into her story (which was definitely going to win the bet, come on) when her cousin Magnus interrupted her with some nonsense about Norse gods. Because of course the Chase family wasn’t complicated enough as it was.

Impossible Year by @bananannabeth

Percy and Annabeth lean on each other to recover after Tartarus, but as the rest of their friends slowly settle back into a semblance of normalcy they realise that maybe they’re holding each other back from healing. Scared of being too codependent and hurting in ways she doesn’t want Percy to see, Annabeth makes the painful decision to take a break – a choice which impacts Percy, all of their friends and herself in ways she’d never imagined.

Annabeth Loses Sleep by @bananannabeth

Annabeth was exhausted. She was trying to do way too many things at once, and she barely had time to catch her breath. So when the opportunity to get to sleep while her watch still said PM rather than AM came up, she was so grateful she almost burst into tears. But of course her one night of rest with Percy had to be interrupted by her butt of a cousin.

It’s A Long Way Down by @romanitas

Five times Annabeth and Percy held hands.

Eighteen Years a Hero by @romanitas

It’s Annabeth’s birthday. Everyone celebrates.

Transplant by @romanitas

Percy tags along with Annabeth on a visit to San Francisco. After the war, after Tartarus, interacting with her family is mildly surprising and weirdly grounding.

Provisional Education by @romanitas

Annabeth doesn’t know how to drive. Percy does. It’s not often he’s the one giving lessons.

Flaws by @romanitas

Percy’s always been angry. Tartarus just made it harder to hold back.

Breaking and Entering by @romanitas

Sneaking in and out of Annabeth’s dorm is always an interesting and challenging experience, for all parties involved. Especially with nuns.

And It Scares You Being Alone by @romanitas

Rachel Elizabeth Dare storms into Percy’s life at just the right moment. For him, at least, as he clings to his mortal side, leaving Annabeth alone with her thoughts on the demigod side. And okay, maybe she’s avoiding him, too, but mostly she’s just tired of losing people. Set somewhere vague in that time period between Battle of the Labyrinth and the Last Olympian.

Academics by @romanitas

Learning how to kiss is it’s own kind of homework. Probably best done away from the company of parents.

12x10 - “Pterodactyl Screeching into the void” - Part 1

My title is borrowed from @postmodernmulticoloredcloak comment on my crazy blogging after first watching this episode earlier. I feel like it is a fitting title for how this episode made me feel. To clarify, these are very very happy pterodactyls.

Steve Yokey wrote this episode and he appears to have well and truly taken up the gap left when Robbie Thompson sadly left the show. In fact this episode to me channels the ghost of Robbie in many different ways. From the fanfiction-esque moments of poor suffering third wheel Sam, to the meta nod to Charlie Bradbury, there is much of Robbie to be found here. Basically, it was bloody perfect.

I feel like there is so much to talk about in this episode that fandom will be chewing on it for months if not years to come. Yokey has picked up the characterisations brilliantly, and seems to have an understanding of what the fandom desperately craves in terms of Castiel, his character, his personality and his development. I adored his sass in this episode. Some other writers *cough*bucklemming*cough* struggle to really capture Castiel’s sass and humour. Showing their lack of understanding of Castiel’s persona and his intelligence and instead writing him in a way that is jarring and sometimes basically stupid. Castiel is far from stupid. In this episode he was written perfectly, in a way I haven’t seen since Edlund’s time. Is that a sweeping statement? Maybe. But I’m still riding my high so let me have it this time.

This episode gave us three of my favourite things. Badass and Sassy Castiel, Overprotective grumpy husband Dean, and poor long suffering brother Sam. (baring in mind this is how they are usually written in fanfiction nowadays this is exactly my jam and I am so so happy to see it play out on screen. Seriously who sold their soul to Crowley for this episode?)

This review will also be in two parts. Because I have so freaking much to say about it.

The first part will focus on destiel, the second on everything else including Castiel’s emotional arc (as separate from destiel), his relationships with angels, angels and gender and Lily Sunder’s character.

PART 1 - ALL THE DESTIEL

Ai Yazawa End-of-Book Notes 1-21

So at the end of every volume of NANA, Ai Yazawa has a brief paragraph about the manga or just some introspection about her life. They give great insight into the series and I think only a few are found on the scans of NANA online, so I thought I’d share them all!

Volume 1

The creator, Ai Yazawa, told us, “I created this story so that it could be enjoyed as a stand-alone and, at the same time, have a complete ending that could be connected to an ongoing series.  I hope you’ll look forward to the future of the two Nanas!”

Volume 2

A note from Ai Yazawa: “I had thought that if the two Nanas met each other, they would probably be constantly fighting, but they seem oddly friendly.  What’s up with that?!  It’s one of me (not so) seven wonders (ha-ha).”

Volume 3

Since childhood, the artists I’ve looked up to haven’t been writers and illustrators, but mostly musicians.  Music provides me the most emotional effect and excitement.  If there was no music, I don’t think my creative juices would boil.  Music is that important to my life.

- Ai Yazawa

Volume 4

I realized one day that there are hit songs with the same names as the main female characters, NANA, JUNKO, and SACHIKO (the kanji for JUNKO is different, though).  It’s not that big a deal, but I sometimes just hum the melodies longingly.

- Ai Yazawa

Volume 5

In the initial drafts, Nana’s band was a rockabilly band like the Stray Cats.  But due to various circumstances, I didn’t keep it that way.  But if they were rockabilly, Ren, Nobu and Shin would have had pompadours.  And Yasu too?

- Ai Yazawa

Volume 6

When I was a child, I used to take piano lessons.  Even after I stopped taking lessons, I bought sheet music I liked and continued playing.  I’ve had my hands full for several years now, but one of these days I’d like to learn how to play jazz piano, which I’ve wanted to do for years now.

- Ai Yazawa

Volume 7

I had an opportunity to interview a group of professional musicians.  I showered them with questions, but they answered willingly, and it was very helpful.  I was having problems balancing the fictional world of manga-like simplicity and gorgeousness with a sense of reality.  But I realized again that what’s important is the humanity of the characters.

- Ai Yazawa

Volume 8

When I was in high school, there was a cool girl in my class who was a lone wolf.  I was really into a foreign New Romantic-type band then, and when she asked me one day, “Do you want to go to their concert together?” I was overwhelmed.  My heart fluttered more than when I was with my boyfriend (☺).  Have you had a Hachiko experience like that?  - Ai Yazawa

On Hamilton and Slavery

Okay so I’ve been seeing a whole lot of screaming on my dash about Hamilton and his opinions/thoughts on slavery. In the name of making sure everyone is properly educated in their screaming, I’m going to try and dispel some of the myths surrounding this topic.

First, let’s get one thing straight: Hamilton was NOT an abolitionist. I don’t care how you look at it, he simply was not. He made deals involving slaves, he married one of the largest slave holding families in New York, and he was obsessed with raising his station in society, which meant, you guessed it, owning/renting slaves.

Many biographers, including Chernow, cite Hamilton’s impoverished childhood in the Caribbean as the basis for his supposed abolitionist tendencies. There are a number of problems with this theory. After his mother died, Hamilton and his brother James found themselves the owners of a few household slaves, but due to legal inheritance laws, they could not technically own them. The fact still remains, his family, however poor they were, they still had slaves in the house, showing that even poor whites had social and legal status above slaves. When Hamilton was working in the trading company, while he may have become disillusioned with the idea of slavery, he most likely supported the institution, simply because it was his livelihood. If he spoke out against it in any way, he could have lost his position in the company.

After Hamilton came to America and joined the war effort, he and John Laurens both supported Laurens’ idea for an all black army regiment, which is another point that biographers often use to support “Hamilton was an abolitionist”. This brings up a key point of this argument: whatever Hamilton thought of slavery, his decisions involving such were often politically motivated, not personally. He probably supported the idea of the black regiment because it was the best for America, not because he exactly wanted the slaves free. Another problem is that, according to Henry Laurens, John wouldn’t forcibly make anyone free their slaves because he believed too much in the property rights in the colonies, which also speaks more to political motivations than to personal ones. As Alexander and John were very close, it can be assumed that they shared very similar views.

Hamilton married Eliza Schuyler, a member of one of the most wealthy northern slaveholding families. Their marriage is somewhat romanticized in the musical; Hamilton most likely married Eliza as a way to move up on the social ladder, not for love. If someone was opposed to slavery as much as Hamilton is usually portrayed, he would have had serious qualms about marrying into a slave family. While it is disputed if the Hamiltons ever actually owned slaves, often, he made deals for his in-laws involving slaves, including some for Angelica and her husband, and also made slave purchases for the Continental Army. Another factor in his complacency in a slave economy was most likely his close relationship with George Washington, the owner of one of the largest plantations in the south.

After the war, Hamilton was a member and founder of the Society for the Promotion of the Manumission of Slaves in New York although society records don’t show much direct involvement in proposing anti-slavery legislation, or, indeed, much involvement at all. The society did not interfere with property rights, however, as members could still own slaves. Remember, slaves were considered property in 18th century America. As you’ll recall, Hamilton was a staunch supporter of property rights. Another probable reason for his membership in the society was the fact that it brought him close to the upper echelons of New York society. The Marquis de Lafayette praised Hamilton for his involvement in the society, but Lafayette had his own set of issues involving slavery.

Like James Madison, Hamilton supported the 3/5ths compromise in the Constitution, which allowed the southern states to count a certain fraction of their substantial slave population for their representation in the House. This compromise managed to keep the southern states in power until the Civil War. Hamilton was an elitist, thinking that the more property one owned meant their vote should count more. Because he wanted a strong national economy, Hamilton knew it was a necessary compromise in order to appease the south and get them to participate in the economy.

In the peace treaty at the end of the revolutionary war, Hamilton supported compensating the slave owners whose slaves had run behind British lines, proving, once again, his opinion on property rights outweighed whatever he thought of the institution of slavery as a whole. When the Haitian Revolution broke out in 1791, he supported the French government in lieu of the new one, but as Toussaint L'Ouverture’s government grew in power and control, he supported continued trade, so long as L'Ouverture could guarantee the safety of US property and assets.

Hamilton, as far as I know, never wrote specifically about his ideals on slavery. If he did refer to it, he was usually talking about a transaction that he carried out for someone else. His membership in the manumission society was mostly symbolic. Mostly, he was there to interact with high society. Whatever he truly thought about slavery, we’ll never know. He simply chose the stance that would most benefit him or the country, straddling the line between abolitionists and slaveholders.

Biographers often overstate Hamilton’s membership in the Manumission Society, saying that indicates staunch abolitionist tendencies, which is an exaggeration. It is important to remember when reading any biography, it will be biased in the direction of the subject. Sure, it may list faults, but it usually will not go into too much detail. In order to get a full picture of anything, look at multiple sources from opposing sides, or from sources not focused on one individual. Be educated in any argument you are involved in. It makes for a lot better a conversation.

Marinette noticed that Adrien seemed a bit out of sorts when he first entered the classroom after lunch.  He was wearing the model smile, which she’d long ago learned meant he was hiding how he really felt.  She wasn’t sure if it was because he didn’t want to be a bother to his friends, or if it was his father’s social conditioning about the Agreste family image.  She suspected it was a little of both.  He was genuinely so resilient, and their deeper friendship was still new enough she’d been hesitant to pursue an answer.

He made a brief detour to Ms. Bustier’s desk, so she took the opportunity to look at Nino.  He was frowning slightly at his best friend’s back, as he bent to speak to the teacher.  Alya leaned forward and tapped Nino’s shoulder, and he briefly met Marinette’s eyes as his gaze turned to his girlfriend.  He shook his head and shrugged, indicating whatever was wrong was new enough he wasn’t in on the details.

Adrien’s, “good afternoon,” was quieter than usual, as he reached his seat and gracefully tossed himself into the chair.

Nino leaned in, one hand on his beast friend shoulder to murmur something.

Adrien let out a sigh and shook his head.  "I’m okay, I promise.“  His reply was barely audible and struck Marinette as an utter lie.

As the afternoon passed, Adrien’s mood didn’t lift.  He appeared to be attentive in class, but Marinette could see that his notes were much sketchier than usual.  She missed his light energy and the quick smile that had earned him the nickname Sunshine Boy.  For their last subject of the day, they were given the class period to continue researching independent projects that were due early the following week.  Adrien had gone to the library with a pathetic wave to his friends as he left.

"He didn’t want me to come with,” Nino muttered to Alya.  "Do you think I should go anyway?“  His expression was tight and concerned.

"Could you tell if he was just being polite, or did he really need space?” Alya asked, leaning forward on her desk.

Nino let out a helpless shrug.  "He’s so hard to read when he gets like this.“

Chloe suddenly appeared on the stairs beside Adrien’s empty seat.  "Marinette will go,” she said firmly.  "If anyone can fix it, she can.“  She gathered up Marinette’s belongings and tucked them into her messenger bag, oblivious or unperturbed by the stares of Alya and Nino.

"Never thought I’d be saying this,” Alya said, her face uncertain.  "But I agree with Chloe.“

"Chop, chop, Marinette,” Chloe said briskly.  "None of us want an akumatized Adrien.“

Shadow Lover

Hopefully Tumblr won’t eat the text this time. But here is the Shadow Lover story that was supposed to be out Friday. I hope you guys enjoy this genderfluid shadow monster and their male reader.

Your mother gave you some gaudy antique she found while shopping. One of her many splurge purchases she later regretted and was no passing off as a thoughtful gift. You really had no idea what to do with it. It was a large black jar with silver decorations spaced about it. The lid to it was stuck fast and you couldn’t open it. You didn’t think it fit your home at all, nothing a guy like you would have, but to make mom happy you set it up on a shelf in your bedroom.

One night you as you lay down in bed you hear something rattling, looking up from your pillow you hear the rattling but don’t see anything. You try to go back to sleep, but you find the rattling continues on. Any time you get up to investigate it stops. So you lay back down in bed.

This keeps happening over the next few nights. Something rattles and stops as soon as you pay attention to it. After a while it gets old and you investigate it yourself. Thinking perhaps that there is a vent or something behind your bookcase you move everything and search. Just for the night, you leave the bookcase and everything on it stacked and moved away. It could be something with one of your neighbors as well if nothing rattled you’d move your room about.

You’re half asleep and you hear a rattling and then a shatter. Waking up, you see the jar your mother gave you is broken on the floor. You clean up the mess, tying it in a bag and going back to bed.

anonymous asked:

do you have tips on taking notes?

yes!! i have many, so i tried to make it easier for you to navigate :)

L O N G post ahead of you, covering lecture notes and readings notes, from a college senior :)

lecture notes:

  • i suggest using a notebook and pen, physically writing down. it’s easier to study, and since it’s using your body, you have a much higher retention rate on your side than if you use a laptop.
    • i have used my laptop for taking notes before. it’s easier to take more notes, word for word, but that’s not always helpful. maybe that’s your style, especially if you enjoy rewriting your notes all pretty and more successfully when you get home. i am not that girl.
    • more notes does not always equal better! it’s good for you to listen actively, selecting what is important and what is not. i take very thorough notes. i take a lot of notes. if you need notes for a missed class, i. am. your. girl. that doesn’t mean i write out everything word for word. selecting details, clauses, and images really helps me to not only keep up, but also to memorize later. plus, when you’re typing, it’s easier to type all the words out without really processing the whole meaning. remember that dense notes are harder to study
    • finally, when you write by hand, you can get more creative with your style. occasionally, i’ll web notes out from one, rather than a traditional outline, bc it makes more sense for the topic
    • it also helps my anxiety! so much! if i force myself to take great in depth notes, then my mind has to dedicate more brain space to the task at hand than to my anxieties.
    • stick to one of these though. it really sucks to get into a test and realize you didn’t study half of your notes bc you forgot half were on your laptop. it’s awful lol.
    • if you use a laptop, get used to how it works first. do u know how much i resent trying to switch from a bullet that is under other bullets (like this one, not filled in) to a main point bullet (the ones filled in). it can be so confusing. also make sure you use a program you like. you can take directly into documents, but i find that i really love evernote, as i can make notebooks for classes, stacks of notebooks for my college, and that i can tag notes with specific classes and topics.
    • if you’re on paper, for fuck’s sake, divide your notebook into sections for classes. keep it all together. those notebooks with handy dandy dividers are so helpful, and they keep you from carrying around 5 notebooks at once.
  • i wouldn’t worry too much about highlighters and such in class. there’s just so much going on then. save highlighting and color coding for later, and count it as studying.
  • don’t worry about traditional outlining styles, with roman numerals or whatever. i take notes very simply. bullets/dashes, subnotes under a broad note.
    • do it how it makes sense to you! maybe that includes different bullet styles, different places for different types of information (on a simple level, i start writing chapter numbers and titles as far to the left as i can go, over the margins, in bold and capital letters. i also usually go over these later in a certain color marker)
    • in some classes it is helpful for me to write the topic along the top of the page in a highlighter (color coding is lovely) the main idea/topic for each page. the classes this was most obviously helpful in were astronomy (COMETS or BLACKHOLES etc) and shakespeare (MUCH ADO ACT 2 or ROMEO etc)
    • it’s easiest to just note page numbers of referenced complex diagrams, as they are usually in your reading or accessible online
    • your style might look different in each class. whatever works.
  • note everything (everything) your professor writes on the board. if it’s important enough for your professor to write it, it’s probably important enough for you to write it.
  • note examples only if it’s helpful for your memory. however, make light note of things like famous people and their science/psych experiments. but in math and such, note! the! examples! and! reasons! will help you so much.
    • examples that have emotion, imagery, or sound are going to be more helpful. applicable examples are most helpful. good professors will lecture you accordingly. lazy ones will not.
  • star anything that the professor stresses or hints will be tested. anything that they say is a major theme or whatever.
  • note main ideas/points/themes, definitions, conclusions,
  • use your tests to help you figure out what you need to know. ask questions about the tests too. in every class i’ve taken, i’m totally shocked at how willingly people ask about exam format and how willingly the professor will tell us how it will work. they want you to succeed.
  • people learn differently! i suggest taking notes in class and later adding touches that help you. count it as study time too. a warm up, if you will.
    • if you’re visual, this might include highlighting, color coding, drawing diagrams, etc.
    •  if you’re an auditory learner, reading the notes out loud and organizing them accordingly, as well as making up rhymes, rhythms and such, might help you. some auditory learners actually like to record lectures and listen to them later.
    • if you learn best through movement, rewriting or making flashcards will be great for you.
  • sometimes professors go really. fuckin. fast. why. idk? but
    • dont be afraid to ask them to go back a slide bc i guarantee, you will be the class hero for asking
    • develop a little bit of shorthand. sometimes i end up using initials, arrows, abbreviations… this is where i got “bc” and “thru” and “u” and such. lol. also, list things vertically, rather than using commas and “and/&/+) it’ll be more clear later
  • some professors you literally cannot take notes on. it sucks. you’re going to need to do the readings and pick their brains on how the test will be to figure out how to prepare. take home tests are your best friend. thank god for them. seriously. get your butt to church and do some worshipping.
  • if your professor puts powerpoints online, save the powerpoints, ya never know.
  • look at inspiration if you want, but remember that notes on studyblr are usually copied from class notes. if you’re too focused on how pretty your notes are, good luck to you
  • finally, the day before an exam, i review my notes that i have (hopefully) been studying. i like to make a one page cheat sheet / study guide on everything i didn’t remember, leaving out everything i understand, memorized, or want to disregard.

reading notes:

ima be real and tell you i hardly ever do reading unless i will be tested on it in class in multiple choice. and im an english student. ye i suck, i know. i dont condone shirking the system but u know what, reading shakespeare or 18th century lit literally makes me want to kill myself. so, im a senior in college, and have barely ever done the reading for a class. the thing is, if you do it right, anything is better than just reading the words on the page and not getting the meaning. dont be a reading zombie. read actively, even if it’s not the actual reading. doing this, i have a 3.9 gpa. so. there’s hope for us yet.

first of all, yall need to do your damn reading. idc how. but due to the fact that a test will be multiple choice, essay answer, a presentation, or a paper, you’re going to not love pulling nothing out of your ass. can be done tho. just be fake deep.

that being said, i’m writing a lot below, but the reality is that if it’s lit, your notes dont have to be longer than a sentence. if it’s a textbook, more.

  • the same formatting question comes into play here, except it’s should you take notes in your book or in a notebook?
    • listen i’m always going to be pro notebook, pro physically writing it out as it helps me really get the information into my head, rather than more passively highlighting
    • i tend to do both, if im willing to mark up a book. i underline and highlight things that stick out to me, and i write them down as well. sometimes when reading literature/essays, if i know the contextual/meaning notes will be interesting to me later, i will copy notes both into my notebook and also less in depth onto post it notes (which also make sweet little flashcards btw), which i will stick into the passage. this is so helpful when a) im reading it again later and b) when we are discussing a passage in class
  • buy used books. it’s cheaper. until it happens to u, u do NOT UNDERSTAND how EXCITING it is to get a book that has highlights and underlines in it ALREADY. DUDE. my work is basically DONE for me. now take that lightly, bc often different ppl will highlight different pieces of information. however, it is helpful.
  • look up summaries. do not simply rely on cliffsnotes and sparknotes, esp since professors are very aware of these. google “title of book, summary, chapter notes, whatever youre looking for” and use the blog posts, the book reviews, the papers that come up. does this method probably take a bit longer? maybe? but it’s easier on my tired brain.
  • if you don’t have time to read your textbook one day and really want to, read the introduction and the conclusion to the chapter, or the first and last sentences to the paragraphs. it’s not great, but it’s something.
  • like your lectures, note definitions, conclusions, and helpful examples, as well as people and dates. if i’m reading literature and i’m deciding to be a smart student i will keep several logs as well. these logs will make it so. easy. to study for your exam:
    • updated character lists, including name, relationships, and anything defining and important
    • scene/chapter summaries, just a sentence summarizing what happened where
    • any quotes or themes that stand out
    • i highly highly highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of the well educated mind for note taking on a range of genres. this is what i had to use through high school and while it’s involved, it’s incredibly helpful.
  • if you’re going to have to cite your notes, note the page number in the margin every time you flip the page
  • the biggest issue i have with reading is when and where to do it. before or after class? always ask your professor if they do not tell you. where in your notebooks? i always do it on the next blank page bc leaving space stresses me the fuck out. make notes on the top of your pages of corresponding lectures/readings.

for both lectures and readings i really really really suggest either having something to drink or something to snack on (think fruit, loose nuts, m&ms. small loose things rather than things u bite? idk they just last longer?)

okay i hope this was somewhat helpful even tho it’s an incredibly longwinded post. it seems like a lot, but the reality is that while i take a lot of notes, i don’t make them complicated, i don’t have rules, i just do what feels right in the moment. they’re not at all stressful. just take it easy and do whatever works for you :)

if anyone has other tips, feel free to reply :)

ok so i closed to the survey, and i’ll share the results beneath the drop so it doesn’t clog up everyone’s dash because there is a Lot to look at

Disclaimer: Some fans may not like the result/ what was said about them. DO NOT come into my ask box and send me anons if you don’t like it. The commentary comes from other people. Don’t bother trying to argue with me.

so i received 241 responses in total, which is pretty good! here’s how many fans of each team i had (it won’t add up to 241 because people put more than one team.):

as a preds fan, i am extremely flattered, and here are some of the reasons why (if you’re a fan of one of these teams and wanna boost ur own ego by reading them all lmk):

  • Vegas: “everyone’s just happy; Ride Dick jokes”
    • “they’re not real yet”
    • “they just wanna have fun”
  • Boston: “Only ever really shit on Habs fans” (mood tbh)
  • Nashville: “The chants? Did you see the play off run, they were so hype.” (i KNOW!!!!!!)
    • “they all hate the blackhawks”
    • “not annoying. not pissbabies.”
    • “they’re not the pens”
    • “if all those people who bandwagon the preds had bandwagon the bruins i would’ve choked them but preds fans never choked me so i love them.” -ashley pbergeron
  • Colorado: “they’re just happy to be here i think”
    • “no shade but how are they gonna be rude with their record”
    • “their team is bad but they’re here for the softness”
    • “we’re all here to love gabe landeskog and tyson barrie”
    • “shamed into niceness”
  • columbus according to many u are amazingly friendly and chatty and more people should love u
    • “happy to be included tbh”
    • “they’re bros”
  • carolina everyone says you stay in your own lane and it’s appreciated
  • dallas everyone loves and supports you
  • “the flames because their uniform is red and red is my favorite color”
  • “ottawa is the nicest because they have no fans”
  • “montreal because they’re canadian”
  • “tampa calls half the roster daddy but that ain’t malicious and i ain’t judging”
  • “washington is nice and they hate the pens like me”

Worst Fanbase

I’m just gonna remind y'all that the commentary is NOT mine and that you best not be leaving hate in my ask bc tbh its not my problem if other people don’t like your team

less teams got votes for this one (which is good because it would suck if everyone was terrible)

  1. Chicago (47.7%, 115 votes)
  2. Pittsburgh (35.7%, 86 votes)
  3. Nashville (4.6%, 11 votes)
  4. Toronto (2.9%, 7 votes)
  5. Boston (2.5%, 6 votes)
  6. Anaheim (4 votes)
  7. Winnipeg, Washington, Philadelphia (2 votes)
  8. Ottawa, Montreal, Minnesota, Edmonton, Columbus, St Louis (1 vote)

ok tbh a lot of people put “self-explanatory” or “do i really have to explain” and A LOT of people said “i almost put chicago/pittsburgh but…” but here are some reasons why people hate these teams:

Chicago:

  • “It’s a bunch of rape apologists and people who excuse racism idk what else I could say on it”
  • “no one can match a Blackhawks fan’s persecution complex”
  • “They can’t stay in their fucking lane.”
  • “if i have to see another pk*ne stan in my life im deleting the entire nhl”
  • “In the kindest way possible, they’re dicks. They come to our home games, throw things at our fans, purposely starting fights. And they’re just obnoxious.”
  • “they always up in everyone else’s business and go out of their way to shit on other teams”
  • “One time a white Hawks fan try to tell me, a Native American individual, what I should and shouldn’t find offensive when it comes to Native American issues. They even went so far to use very vulgar expletives in their argument, which in normal circumstances I honestly wouldn’t care about, but I was trying to have a civil discussion and they were clearly too far up Chicago’s racist ass to show me an ounce of respect so. That was fun.” (Y I K E S)
  • “Absolutely trashed Amalie Arena, did not keep a family friendly attitude during public screenings, were antagonistic to Lightning fans whether they won or lost a game. Garbage.”

Pittsburgh:

  • “Entitled, turning into H*wks fans with the whole repeat cups thng. They’re the new “3 cups 5 years” shit.”
  • “They don’t understand that they aren’t the only team??? You can’t say one (1) maybe bad thing about any player with out them jumping on you.”
  • “Oh my god I hate Pens fans. Dear god. They don’t stop whining ever and constantly play the victim over everything, cause drama over nothing, and turn a blind eye to the shit their team pulls. Hawks fans are a close second on the “playing victim” front, but man, Pens fans are total bitches. 0/10. Probably not the Worst fanbase, but the ones I see the most of? Since I kind of block every single Hawk fan I see. Ahem.”
  • “bc they’re not the preds”
  • “obnoxious”
  • “some (not all) tend to be a little arrogant and rude but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
  • “everywhere, won’t leave you alone, can’t hide, WILL find you + harass you”
  • “win or lose, both online and in person, almost all of them are assholes and crybabies. they always come to my team’s stadium in mass and often start fights. I’ve seen a pen fan push someone down stadium stairs (the victim broke their wrist), I’ve seen one sucker punch someone, I’ve had some of them yell homophobic slurs at me as I walked by- and all of this was at Nationwide Arena. my friends in other fanbases have had similar expirences with them as well, they’re generally aweful people and I wish they would go the fuck away.” (THAT is bad. yikes.)
  • “They’re mean”
  • “Crosby eats jars of mayo and is a dick.”
  • “Kidney crispy and his legion of fans who insist he does nothing wrong ever”
  • “I worked at the joe louis arena and me and all my coworkers dreaded games when we played the pens, hands down no other team has fans so mean/rude/drunk/beligerent “

Nashville (unfortunate tbh.):

  • “Some of the fans are great, but a good number of them have already adopted the   annoying habit of complaining about not having won a cup and being under appreciated. They like to act as if they are just the longest suffering fans and don’t want to acknowledge that it is easy to cheer for a good team and that they haven’t really had the highs and lows that a lot of other fan bases have had at this point. Plus, I have been yelled at and hassled multiple times by Nashville fans when attending games. I really like the team and the city, but the fans are pretty bad.”
  • “fish. whiny babies. fucking carrie underwood pretending to care about hockey. bad country singers attempting the national anthem.”
  • “i’m a pretty big preds fan as well so this isn’t really a “i love the blackhawks so 4get the preds” response. imo it just seems like there are a handful of people that are diehard preds fans that come across really cruel?? like based on what i’ve seen when they’re indirecting or responding to people- and not just blackhawks fans because i don’t really count “being mean to blackhawks fans” as a cruel thing ajdklsa- but it just seems like their really good energy doesn’t always get used in a positive way on this site that’s all”
  • “the most annoying  for me are Nashville’s fans..i was at one game and i get so much hate because of my jersey, because of who am i supporting and..it just made me sad..i think they’re not all like this..but it happened”
  • “I’ve just met a lot of really mean preds fans in real life and on the internet, which was disappointing because they’re a pretty awesome team.”
  • “They seem to think that they’re good people just because of the player(s)/team(s) they support when they actually treat fans of all other teams like garbage. That seems really wrong and narrow minded to me.“
  • “They’ve just been really rude to me and my friends.”
  • ‘"It’s all your fault"’

Columbus:

  • “They’re just kind of snotty?”

Toronto:

  • “Leafs fans tend to think that Toronto is the center of the universe and that everything has to revolve around their team. They get defensive about every little thing and like to think that their team is better than it actually is sometimes. Unfortunately with a larger fanbase they simply have a larger volume of annoying fans, not necessarily a higher percentage than any other fanbase, and those voices really stick out”
  • “smol bean culture uwu”
  • “some can’t just take the W, sore winners  + they’re everywhere, always up to something (most of them are cool though im just bitter)”
  • “Who is Auston Matthews” (??????????????)
  • “'me stanning the leafs’ makes me want to Kermit sewer slide” (omg……….just @ karina. im screaming.)

Boston:

  • “The most Extra when their team is losing, literally act like the world is ending if they’re down 1 in the first and they’re always like “wow what must it be like to have a good time” LIKE CALM DOWN it’s infuriating” (just @ ashley omg :/)
  • “They are very violent and loud.”
  • “Boston fans are RACIST.”
  • “A majority of Bruins fans I’ve met/come into contact with are very aggressive and rude towards opposing teams’ fans.”

Winnipeg:

  • “Entitlement and have done nothing to deserve it”
  • “Massive circlejerk, obnoxious, feel entitled and cocky with absolutely nothing to show for it. Will vilify players/teams without recognizing any of their players are dirty or careless. Laine looks like Donkey from Shrek.”

My personal favorites, the Ducks:

  • “man i fuckin hate the ducks”
  • “I’m gay and I hate the ducks” (i love U)
  • “Are ducks fans even real idk but if they are they’d have to be assholes in order to put up with K*sler”

Ok here’s my two cents: obviously rivalries and stuff make bias. i get that. but you also have to remember that hockey is meant to be competitive, especially come playoff time. people are gonna goalie chant and be rude and yell stuff you may not like about your team. it happens! but it doesn’t mean that the fans are ALWAYS mean. that being said, i wanna say that preds fans aren’t intentionally malicious for no reason and I’m sorry to anyone who had a negative experience.

HOWEVER, for chicago and pittsburgh, before you point fingers, really reevaluate yourselves. obviously no one is perfect, and like i said, hockey is extremely competitive, but if this many people have an issue with you and how you treat others, then its time to take responsibility. I’ve met some great people with the pens as their secondary teams and there are pens fans that tolerate my hating them because they’re nice enough and can handle criticism, but overall, people have a negative view of y'all because you allow the assholes to be the loudest fans. if anyone wants to talk to me, my ask box is open, but like i said: DO NOT SEND ME ANONS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE’S COMMENTARY. thank y'all for participating, i really appreciate it!

PSA: AO3 collections

AO3 collections are a great way to group a bunch of fics together, whether by theme, pairing, fannish event, or other criteria. Unfortunately, AO3 collections sometimes cause problems, because fics can be added to collections without the author’s knowledge.

While most of the time this is harmless, if the collection owner marks the collection as anonymous or hidden, all fics within the collection will be listed under “anonymous” instead of the actual author, or will be hidden entirely and cannot be viewed by anyone except the collection owner and the fic’s author.

The end result is that the fic is no longer listed on the author’s AO3 page, and is no longer openly associated with the author. This has happened to me, plus a couple of other authors I know.

(Note: Authors will still receive comments posted on their fic, though!)

So here’s a little guide on what to do if that happens to your fic.
