i need another series of this show

Korrasami is canon.

You can celebrate it, embrace it, accept it, get over it, or whatever you feel the need to do, but there is no denying it. That is the official story. We received some wonderful press in the wake of the series finale at the end of last week, and just about every piece I read got it right: Korra and Asami fell in love. Were they friends? Yes, and they still are, but they also grew to have romantic feelings for each other.

Was Korrasami “endgame,” meaning, did we plan it from the start of the series? No, but nothing other than Korra’s spiritual arc was. Asami was a duplicitous spy when Mike and I first conceived her character. Then we liked her too much so we reworked the story to keep her in the dark regarding her father’s villainous activities. Varrick and Zhu Li weren’t originally planned to end up as a couple either, but that’s where we took the story/where the story took us. That’s how writing works the vast majority of the time. You give these characters life and then they tell you what they want to do.

I have bragging rights as the first Korrasami shipper (I win!). As we wrote Book 1, before the audience had ever laid eyes on Korra and Asami, it was an idea I would kick around the writers’ room. At first we didn’t give it much weight, not because we think same-sex relationships are a joke, but because we never assumed it was something we would ever get away with depicting on an animated show for a kids network in this day and age, or at least in 2010.

Makorra was only “endgame” as far as the end of Book 1. Once we got into Book 2 we knew we were going to have them break up, and we never planned on getting them back together. Sorry, friends. I like Mako too, and I am sure he will be just fine in the romance department. He grew up and learned about himself through his relationships with Asami and Korra, and he’s a better person for it, and he’ll be a better partner for whomever he ends up with.

Once Mako and Korra were through, we focused on developing Korra and Asami’s relationship. Originally, it was primarily intended to be a strong friendship. Frankly, we wanted to set most of the romance business aside for the last two seasons. Personally, at that point I didn’t want Korra to have to end up with someone at the end of series. We obviously did it in Avatar, but even that felt a bit forced to me. I’m usually rolling my eyes when that happens in virtually every action film, “Here we go again…” It was probably around that time that I came across this quote from Hayao Miyazaki:

“I’ve become skeptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live - if I’m able to, then perhaps I’ll be closer to portraying a true expression of love.”

I agree with him wholeheartedly, especially since the majority of the examples in media portray a female character that is little more than a trophy to be won by the male lead for his derring-do. So Mako and Korra break the typical pattern and end up respecting, admiring, and inspiring each other. That is a resolution I am proud of.

However, I think there needs to be a counterpart to Miyazaki’s sentiment: Just because two characters of the same sex appear in the same story, it should not preclude the possibility of a romance between them. No, not everyone is queer, but the other side of that coin is that not everyone is straight. The more Korra and Asami’s relationship progressed, the more the idea of a romance between them organically blossomed for us. However, we still operated under this notion, another “unwritten rule,” that we would not be allowed to depict that in our show. So we alluded to it throughout the second half of the series, working in the idea that their trajectory could be heading towards a romance.

But as we got close to finishing the finale, the thought struck me: How do I know we can’t openly depict that? No one ever explicitly said so. It was just another assumption based on a paradigm that marginalizes non-heterosexual people. If we want to see that paradigm evolve, we need to take a stand against it. And I didn’t want to look back in 20 years and think, “Man, we could have fought harder for that.” Mike and I talked it over and decided it was important to be unambiguous about the intended relationship.

We approached the network and while they were supportive there was a limit to how far we could go with it, as just about every article I read accurately deduced. It was originally written in the script over a year ago that Korra and Asami held hands as they walked into the spirit portal. We went back and forth on it in the storyboards, but later in the retake process I staged a revision where they turned towards each other, clasping both hands in a reverential manner, in a direct reference to Varrick and Zhu Li’s nuptial pose from a few minutes prior. We asked Jeremy Zuckerman to make the music tender and romantic, and he fulfilled the assignment with a sublime score. I think the entire last two-minute sequence with Korra and Asami turned out beautiful, and again, it is a resolution of which I am very proud. I love how their relationship arc took its time, through kindness and caring. If it seems out of the blue to you, I think a second viewing of the last two seasons would show that perhaps you were looking at it only through a hetero lens.

Was it a slam-dunk victory for queer representation? I think it falls short of that, but hopefully it is a somewhat significant inching forward. It has been encouraging how well the media and the bulk of the fans have embraced it. Sadly and unsurprisingly, there are also plenty of people who have lashed out with homophobic vitriol and nonsense. It has been my experience that by and large this kind of mindset is a result of a lack of exposure to people whose lives and struggles are different from one’s own, and due to a deficiency in empathy––the latter being a key theme in Book 4. (Despite what you might have heard, bisexual people are real!) I have held plenty of stupid notions throughout my life that were planted there in any number of ways, or even grown out of my own ignorance and flawed personality. Yet through getting to know people from all walks of life, listening to the stories of their experiences, and employing some empathy to try to imagine what it might be like to walk in their shoes, I have been able to shed many hurtful mindsets. I still have a long way to go, and I still have a lot to learn. It is a humbling process and hard work, but nothing on the scale of what anyone who has been marginalized has experienced. It is a worthwhile, lifelong endeavor to try to understand where people are coming from.

There is the inevitable reaction, “Mike and Bryan just caved in to the fans.” Well, which fans? There were plenty of Makorra shippers out there, so if we had gone back on our decision and gotten those characters back together, would that have meant we caved in to those fans instead? Either direction we went, there would inevitably be a faction that was elated and another that was devastated. Trust me, I remember Kataang vs. Zutara. But one of those directions is going to be the one that feels right to us, and Mike and I have always made both Avatar and Korra for us, first and foremost. We are lucky that so many other people around the world connect with these series as well. Tahno playing trombone––now that was us caving in to the fans!

But this particular decision wasn’t only done for us. We did it for all our queer friends, family, and colleagues. It is long overdue that our media (including children’s media) stops treating non-heterosexual people as nonexistent, or as something merely to be mocked. I’m only sorry it took us so long to have this kind of representation in one of our stories.

I’ll wrap this up with some incredible words that Mike and I received in a message from a former Korra crew member. He is a deeply religious person who devotes much of his time and energy not only to his faith, but also to helping young people. He and I may have starkly different belief systems, but it is heartwarming and encouraging that on this issue we are aligned in a positive, progressive direction:

“I’ve read enough reviews to get a sense of how it affected people. One very well-written article in Vanity Fair called it subversive (in a good way, of course)… I would say a better word might be “healing.” I think your finale was healing for a lot of people who feel outside or on the fringes, or that their love and their journey is somehow less real or valuable than someone else’s… That it’s somehow less valid. I know quite a few people in that position, who have a lifetime of that on their shoulders, and in one episode of television you both relieved and validated them. That’s healing in my book.”

Love,

Bryan

Beginning Thoughts of the Summer Anime Season 2017. . .

Summer Season of Anime is already among us, and I’m so glad it’s here.   With Spring being so incredibly weak, I find myself enjoying the fact that the Summer Season is already this good and it’s only the better.  Regardless, here are my thoughts on the beginning shows I’m watching.  Please keep in mind that these are based solely on the first episode or two, and are purely just my opinion.  So please, if yours differs, I’d love to here it.

Kakegurui:  Studio MAPPA

Hi, I’m one of the contenders for best show of Summer Season.  Gambling.  Finally something different.  There aren’t as many series about Gambling as there is with so many others, much less done in this high school setting.  Regardless, I love the art style of this series, especially when it gets to be those truly disturbing scenes.  I can say without a doubt that this is definitely going to be one of the highlights of this season.

Would you hate me if I said this is one of my favorites so far?  Yeah, I’m trash, and this is trash, but I don’t care.  It’s an ecchi series that isn’t making me hate everything around me so far, so I’m going to enjoy this while it lasts.   DO NOT WATCH THIS WITHOUT HEADPHONES.

Koi to Uso: LIDENFILMS

This show is a perfect example of a series where the plot is good enough to save the series.  The art style is very generic, granted, it’s higher quality generic, but generic and bland nonetheless.  I would love this series so much more if it was done in more of a March Comes in Like a Lion, or even a Scum’s Wish Art Style, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case here.  However, I am loving the plot thus far.  Who honestly isn’t interested in this concept of Forbidden Love.  I honestly can’t wait to see where this series goes from here.

Netsuzou TRap : Creators in Pack

Disappointed.  Nine Minute Series.  Nine Freaking Minutes.  Honestly, unless you live and breathe for Yuri, don’t waste your time.  I happen to really enjoy Yuri, so I’ll keep watching it for a little while.  The manga is a billion times better compared to this.  #StopMakingShittyAdaptations.

Ballroom e Youkoso: Production I.G.

Hi, I’m the other top runner for best series of the season.   I really love this series.  It’s amazing.  It’s unique, and I can honestly see this being almost as big as Yuri on Ice.  Check this shit out.   I mean you could also just check it out solely for the purpose of that unique I.G. Art Style; I mean, hello this has Haikyuu written all over it.

Dropped.  I’m sick of the “another-world-harem-series”  it’s getting old.  Granted, this is a slightly different “another world harem”  by having the main guy getting to keep his smartphone in this other world.  I know right?  God understands our first world struggles.  Also, this art style is bland.  But  who knows, maybe you’ll like it.

Annd this is going to be dropped.  Calling it now.  I hate the art style.  I also hate the main girl; in fact, I hate her so much I don’t even like her enough to learn her name.  I really liked the concept.  A Quiz Anime.  It’s completely different from everything else, the only thing that truly kills the series for me is the execution.  The execution is absolutely terrible. It had potential, and it’s just really sad to see it wasted.

Dive!!:  Studio Zero-G

Honestly, this is probably going to get dropped.  As much as I hate to admit it, I find this show just underwhelming.  When I first heard about the show, I had high hopes that it was going to be something, maybe not as awesome as Free!, but at least as eye catching, or entertaining, or hell, even just partially lovable as Free!.  I find myself disappointed, both with how the show is turning out, as well as with how much I expected from it.  Honestly, unless you live and breathe for Sports Anime, don’t bother.  I would also like to point out that everywhere I’ve read about it does have Comedy tagged before Sports, yet I have not found a bit of it even relatively close to “comedy,” so there’s that as well…

Hitorijime My Hero :  Encourage Films

Watching this.  Why?  Meh, I like BL.  In all honestly though, it’s turning out alright; it is a Shounen Ai, series, so regardless, I always go into them with no expectations, so for now, it’s just meh.  I’ll let you know more when it gets further along.

I’m actually really enjoying this one.  It’s a cute little time killer that’s pretty funny, and is all about kids with these love problems.  How cute.  The art style is very generic, and the plot isn’t exactly reverting, but it’s entertaining and that’s all that matters.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e: Studio Lerche

I’m interested.  Very interested.  I went into it thinking that it was just going to be some Assassination Classroom wanna be by the same studio:  Class of Underachievers, given up on by this precious elite school.  I’m honestly glad that it, so far, isn’t turning into that at all.  I’m curious to see where it goes from here.

Jigoku Shojo:  Studio Deen

Hell Girl!! *Crying*  I missed you so much.  You never realize just how much you miss a show until you get another season and it just makes you so happy.  This is me with Hell Girl.  Thank you.  I needed this.  I needed an excuse to binge the series again, (which I totally did) just to mentally prepare myself for this new season.

Boku no Hero Academia:  Studio Bones

That second half art style change though!!! Still best show so far.  Best show of the season.  Best Show of Last Season.  Just Best. Show.   WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING THIS?!?!?!

So anyways, that is my first impressions of the series so far that I am watching.  Please keep in mind these are merely my thoughts, and I am not going to be watching everything this season.  If there’s something I’m not watching that you think I should be, please let me know.  Also, let me know what you’re thinking of this season so far!

  • What I say: I’m fine
  • What I mean: Skandar Keynes is one of the best humans of our generation, and I will never understand why he didn’t get any more acting jobs after Narnia. He has the talent, the looks, the accent, and the general awesomeness that would make ANY director want to cast him. I could see him in a British drama series or really any show like Game of Thrones, Doctor who, or Sherlock. He’d be absolutely fantastic in them. The fact that I will never get to see Skandar’s beautiful face on TV again hurts my delicate heart.
Save Yourself (Steve One-shot)

Characters: reader, Steve (Natasha, Bucky, and Sam mentioned)

Summary: After a disastrous mission and harsh romantic rejection, you find yourself in a downward spiral of destructive behavior until Steve steps in and shows you you’re worth saving.

Warnings: All the angst. Little bit of fluff. Mentions of death, sex, destructive behavior, suicide and self harm (mild), alcohol abuse.

Word Count: 2.4k (another failed drabble, ya’ll. I’m a wordy birdy)

Song Inspiration: Save Yourself by Kaleo

Y/N: Late night angst strikes again! I thought about this song and story all day at work. I’m still working on my multiple series, but needed a little change of pace. I’ve also been missing Steve lately. I was reminded of Chris Evans’ advice about his noisy brain so I included that. This got a lot darker than I anticipated. I have no idea how it’ll be received, so let me know your thoughts. I adore you all!! <3

p.s. Happy Birthday, Chris Evans!!! :)

“Have a nice time last night?”

You cringed. Only ten feet away from your room, you heard the one voice you hoped not the hear coming from the one man you were avoiding. Straightening up from your sneaking position, you slowly turned toward the voice.

Mysterious, Absent Characters

Anonymous asked: “How can I keep readers interested in a missing character with them being gone & only remembered?”

A character doesn’t need to be present in a scene to be interesting. Sometimes they can be missing for most of the book (in some cases all of the book) and still hold the reader’s interest, just by being “relevant.”

He Doesn’t Deserve You

Summary: You move into your new apartment and have an awkward run in with your neighbor, making a very interesting first impression.

Warnings: angst, sexual tension (minor), smut, Steve x Reader, Bucky x Reader

A/N: I have so many drabbles to write but I needed a break and I thought this up. I was going to make this into a series but I didn’t wanna start another one so I just wrote it as a long fic (hence why it’s a little jumpy / fast paced). If you guys like this I can write a short series similar to this story (with some changes). Just let me know.

You looked around your new apartment, it was fully decorated with your things and it filled you with utter joy. You sighed as you sat on your bed, popping open a bottle of wine to let it breathe, waiting for your friends to show up. A knock on your door sent you flying towards it.

“Courtney! Michelle!” You swung the door open with a proud grin on your face. “How do you like the place?”

“It’s so cute!” Michelle shrieked as she brushed passed you, taking in her surroundings.

“Hmmm, not enough Star Wars decor.” Courtney followed Michelle, chuckling as she passed the hanging pictures of you guys from college.

“Raegan couldn’t make it?” You cocked an eyebrow, worried for your newly engaged friend. “She too busy with Noah?”

“Technically, she’s planning the wedding and driving him nuts.” Michelle giggled and poured herself a glass of wine. “Now, let’s get this pizza eating, wine drinking, and Netflix bingeing started!”

Four episodes into the first season of Grey’s Anatomy and the three of you were blabbering, laughing, drunk idiots. You were shouting at the tv, telling the characters that they were doing regretful, silly things. You were voted the door answerer when a loud banging echoed in your apartment.

I’d like to take a moment to talk about a gay superhero.

Friends, followers, and fucking nerds, I’d like to introduce you to Oren Pierre Alfonzo. He’s a former soldier who runs his own pastry shop, and, importantly for the genre, he turns into

Kamen Rider Bravo!

Oren is gay. I mean really, really gay. Not just being somewhat homoerotic, I mean he legit spends most of the series swooning over another man.

And you know what? None of the jokes that come out of it are about him being gay. When jokes in that regard happen, it’s just because he has the worst timing for trying to flirt, and is an incorrigible show-off. He is every effeminate-but-still-kickass playboy character trait in one character.

All of the threat he provides to the main characters are because he is an ex-soldier with a ‘do what needs to be done’ streak. He’s never reduced to just being a joke or comic relief, even when power creep brings him down from an A-list threat to a supporting character. He’s never annihilated or humiliated just to show how strong New Bad Guy is. Oh, and did I mention that, in a series where about half the main cast dies by the end, Oren survives. He isn’t buried. He lives, keeps his pastry shop, and takes over as a mentor for a teenage boy with PTSD.

He never does anything sexual towards the teenager, either. He’s just an older man who knows what war does to people,and wants to keep this poor kid out of trouble. (The worst thing he does is steal the kid’s transformation belt and replace it with a version that hits him with a washing pan when he tries to make a suicidal death charge into a fight he can’t win.)

Yes, he’s a bit of a stereotype, and yes, he’s a tiny bit problematic, but Oren Pierre Alfonzo is a strong, capable homosexual man, in a genre where we’re lucky if one female character gets superpowers and doesn’t die. He’s not perfect, but he’s a hell of a step in the right direction, and I’m legit salty that I don’t see more praise for him in the fandom. I love him and y’all should, too.

TL;DR: Oren Pierre Alfonzo is the best character in Gaim and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

My Favorite Series In Order:

Sailor Moon:

I love the entire Sailor Moon franchise.  Yes, it’s mostly a nostalgia thing, but I can’t help but to love it.  The manga is a classic, and the 90′s anime, while being long and cheesy, is still something that to this day I will watch.  Usagi is a relatable character, and every senshi is enjoyable and unique to the show.  While the first two seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal were pretty terrible, the third season completely makes up for all of the faults in it thus far.  Plus, SeiUsa and HaruMichi are life.

Assassination Classroom:

Assassination Classroom is a fantastic series.  This is a series where you grow with every character.  This series is a roller coaster of emotions.  It has some of the most incredible moments I’ve ever scene in anime, as well as some of the most heartbreaking.  The ending to this show mentally destroyed me, and is the only series to this day that will make me break down every single time no matter how many times I’ve seen it, both subbed or dubbed.  It teaches so many life lessons, and is a must watch/read for everyone. The first season closing is not only my favorite closing, but one of my favorite songs, that to this day, I still listen to. Also, KarmAgisa is life.

Kuroko no Basket:

Alright, I love this anime. I love the characters, I love the manga, I love the voice actors, I love the fan arts, I love the fanfictions.  I love absolutely everything.  The story is intense, and it hooks you from the start.  If you like sports anime, this one is a must watch.  Also, AkaKuro and Kuroko x GoM my favorite <3

Tokyo Ghoul:

I’m very connected with this series.  I’ve been following this series religiously every week for years, so of course it’s one of my favorites.  Now, the anime is very disappointing, and the second season doesn’t exist, but I will still love it, especially since the last few chapters of Re have been fucking phenomenal. The opening for the first season is easily one of my favorite songs ever created. Also, I need Re animated like now.  It deserves it.  Actually, I need Part One redone as well.  Can we just reboot the entire anime series?

Kuroshitsuji:

I love this series.  Like Tokyo Ghoul, I’m very invested in the manga.  Manga wise, I love the art style, and the story arcs; and once again like Tokyo Ghoul, the second season also does not exist.  The story is very well written, although this most recent arc is dragging a bit (but that’s normal for different series).  Ciel is such a little bastard, and it’s wonderful to read.  It’s a dark series that won’t get a happy ending, and that’s part of what hooks me to it.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt:

This anime is fucking gold.  It is hilarious, and soo fucking inappropriate.  It’s by far my favorite comedy.  It’s art style is so unique and it has the best dubbing ever created.  The dub is by far better than the sub.  It also has the biggest cliffhanger ending, and fucking NEEDS a season two desperately.

I love this series so much.  This is another one of those series where I love every aspect about it, from the anime to the manga to the dubbing and subbing and even the Live Action T.V. Show and Movie.  It’s my favorite romantic comedy and always the first one I recommend to people looking for a shoujo.  Every character is unique in their own way and the story is really adorable.  I love the manga where you see so much development from everyone.  Also, Hikaru and Kaoru deserve Haruhi, and I don’t care what anyone says.

No Game No Life:

Shiro is adorable as fuck.  As a gamer, this show relates so much to me.  It’s an amazing fantasy, and the story is perfect.  The animation is beautiful, and the colors are so vibrant and beautiful.  Sora and Shiro are cute together and their interactions make the show that much better. I need my second season.   Side Note:  Jibril is best girl.

Shokugeki no Soma:

Food Porn.  Of course I’d love it.  This is once again another series where I’m invested in the manga, so of course I’d love the series.  I read the series weekly, and the most recent arc is making me fall further in love with the series.  The manga is a great read, and you actually learn a lot about cooking through the series, whether it’s the manga or the anime.  The food orgasms are hilarious, and the animation for this show is amazing.  I would kill for a season three of this show this year.

Free!:

I will always have a soft spot for this series.  It was the first anime that really got me hooked to sports anime.  I love it.  Yes, it’s a bit dramatic at times, but being an ex-swimmer/lifeguard, I find this series so relatable, making me love it even more.  Also, the fan service is definitely a positive.  I love the Japanese voices, and the OP and ED’s for both seasons.  The movie prequel they did was also amazing.  The animation is gorgeous, but that’s to be expected from Kyoto Animation.

So yeah, those are my top ten series!  Thoughts?

ITV: Get ITV's The Halcyon a Season 2!
The Halcyon is a British TV series created and written by Charlotte Jones. Produced by Left Bank Pictures and shown on ITV. A period drama set in 1940 during World War II through the eyes of The Halcyon Hotel staff and clientèle. The show delivers a realistic representation of London in the 1940's with...

PLEASE PLEASE sign this petition. An ITV series called The Halcyon has been canceled after only one season despite its mass popularity and demand. We fans are pissed.

 Description: “The story of a bustling and glamorous five-star hotel at the center of London society and the world at war”

But this series is so much more than that:

Firstly: POC and LGBT Representation

  • It has an interracial (Indian and White) same-sex male couple: Toby Hamilton, the second son of the late Lord Hamilton who owned The Halcyon hotel which is now owned by his brother, and Adil Joshi, the Indian bartender/cocktail maker at the hotel to which experiences a racial slur thrown at him in one scene. (Spoiler alert) Both survive at the end of Season 1. Honestly, this couple was so beautifully written and groundbreaking for a period drama and their story still had much to be told. As a couple, they were treated as fairly as the straight couples in terms of screen time and that is rare within shows. Not to mention that due to the time period, the couple has to keep their relationship a secret, addressing the homophobia of the time. Unlike Downton Abbey which had Thomas Barrow treated less well (I love him though), these two are not. Toby has constant pressure from his mother to find a girlfriend and was more or less bullied by his father for not being good enough - so Toby’s realisation of what he wants and who he wants to be with is very beautiful. I don’t want to give away too much about Adil’s history but it is something that is mentioned briefly but is interesting as it concerns immigration (very applicable to today)
  • It had another interracial couple (a black man and white woman), Betsey Day, a cabaret singer at the hotel who is constantly degraded and judged by the conservative society because she “sleeps around” but never lets that get her down; she is in a band with Sonny Sulivan, a black male pianist who I think (it isn’t clear, but his accent suggests it) may have emigrated from the West Indies. He is the possibly the sweetest character who does something (not going to say what it is) for Betsey but doesn’t let her know it was him and doesn’t expect anything in return. Sonny and Betsey also keep their relationship secret, not because it was against the law but because of the judgment from society. (Spoilers) In one episode, they are found out by a man who wants to sleep with Betsey and the man is very racist towards Sonny. Sonny is a selfless character who is honestly the sweetest guy on tv ever not to mention Betsey and Sonny have amazing banter together. Their relationship too was beautiful but it is unclear whether both survived. Another reason why we need a season 2.

Not to mention it has many background POC (here are a few examples):

Secondly: The dealing with Social Issues

  • Sexism - As I said, Betsey is called a “whore” on many occasions and this “reputation” she seems to have is something that Sonny is shown not to care at all about. It also has one episode in which one of the male guests tries to force himself on one of the chambermaids, Kate and when she scratches him to get away, he hits her. Since the man is a wealthy and powerful man, his assistant tries pay her to keep her quiet. One of the young men working at the hotel called Billy confronts the man, the man says that she wanted it to which Billy says no she didn’t and what he did was wrong.
  • Homophobia - The obvious is that homosexuality between two men was illegal and so Toby and Adil can’t be open about their relationship. The villain in the show (who I am not going to spoil) finds about their relationship and blackmails both Toby and Adil and calls Adil Toby’s “disgusting little boyfriend”.
  • Racism - Both Adil and Sonny are main characters and are both called racist slurs. In the case of Sonny, he was confronted by a group of white men and called an “ape in a suit” and other things to this extent. None of the other main characters that know about this incident support this racism.
  • Anti-Semitism and Xenophobia - There is an Austrian-Jewish refugee who works in the kitchen who experience extreme bullying and xenophobia from the Head Chef because he believes that him being Austrian means that he is German. The Head Chef gets fired for this. The refugee storyline is prevalent to today. Another example is the late Lord Hamilton’s mistress Charity Lambert was a Nazi sympathizer, anti-Semitic and wanted to try and sway Britain to join Germany.

Thirdly, the female characters are great:

The series has both young and older female characters

  • Emma and Betsey's’ female friendship is amazing
  • This villainous woman, Lady Hamilton, who is complex and both love and hate

Fourthly, Matt Ryan playing an American man:

  • No need to explain

Lastly, it’s beautiful and well written, good ass show but the finale of season 1 left so many unanswered questions and we need more. I could go on and on about the many reasons but please sign this petition and watch the show (if you want). It would be much appreciated.

Royai: Possible ‘Secret Relationship’ Implications

I talked about this on a tag meme I did, and I liked my analysis enough that I figured I’d edit it up and add some pictures.

I’m going to talk about the reasons why Roy and Riza having a relationship in the manga could possibly be a thing. I am 80% sure that despite how clearly they loved each other, Roy and Riza did not have anything going on between them in the series. However, there are some points I want to make that lean toward them possibly being together in a romantic sense throughout the manga.

My main point is how comfortable they are around each other. Comfortable enough that she’s the only one he cries in front of. He holds back his emotions throughout Hughes’ entire funeral and only lets himself be vulnerable when they’re alone in front of Hughes’ grave.

A lot of people say there’s a lot of unresolved sexual or romantic tension between them throughout the series, but I honestly don’t see that. I see two people who clearly care about one another a great deal, who, with one look, make it obvious that they’re in love. But I don’t see them really pining for one another or anything like that. They act like an old married couple. They don’t seem to act like they want to kiss or touch each other desperately. Which, to me, says that perhaps it’s because they already do. (This could be because I’m Ace, though, and I do not go looking for sexual implications in my OTPs, so maybe it just goes over my head all the time, but…)

Case in point, I knew my husband for ten years before we got married. In the first four years or so, we definitely were a couple of teenagers in love. We pined for one another when we couldn’t see each other. When in public, we stared at each other silently wishing we could go somewhere to be alone, we made out as often as possible. After about four or five years, the feeling of “I need to touch this person because I have a lot of pent up sexual and romantic tension for them” pretty much died down and we became very comfortable with just being around each other. If we didn’t hug or kiss for a while, it was no big deal because we had each other and we knew we could arrange to be together to do those things whenever.

My point is, Roy and Riza act like that around each other, which tells me that perhaps the reason they aren’t desperate to touch one another all the time is because they already do. They already do all the things normal couples do. They’re used to intimacy so why would they itch to touch each other 24/7? If they were as in love as they appeared to be, but couldn’t be with each other, I think they’d show more signs of yearning for one another. This, of course, could be because we just don’t see it since they were not the focus of the series and their relationship had no huge importance to the story (and Arakawa has said that she does not include anything that doesn’t need to be in the story), but I feel like, even with the amount of time they had been together, if they had never touched each other or kissed or hugged or whatever, they’d have a hard time masking the want they would have for each other. Their comfort in each other’s presence could be more than just them having spent a long time together.

My other point is the Barry the Chopper scene where Roy gets super jealous of Barry touching Riza and prepares to burn him to a crisp. Riza stops him and seems absolutely unfazed by his jealousy, which could indicate that he’s acted like that multiple times in the past and she’s used to telling him to calm the hell down.

Roy also gets annoyed again after they’re done interrogating Barry to see if he’s the real thing. Barry flirts with Riza again calling her ‘Missy,’ looking at her with hearts over his head. Roy is visibly annoyed in this scene as well.

My next point isn’t exactly evidence, but Roy and Riza did change clothes in a car together and didn’t come out of that looking flustered or blushing or anything like they might have if they were unused to seeing each other in various states of undress. I mean, yeah, Roy learned his alchemy from her bare back, but it’s not like he saw anything else. I feel like he’d still get flustered if he saw her without a shirt on, even if it was just her back, because if they weren’t together, if they weren’t touching each other on a somewhat regular basis, he’s just a guy in love and he’d want to touch her and he’d blush about it or get embarrassed easily when seeing her. Think about Ed in that scene where he was in the room when Winry was changing. He was flushed and embarrassed because he was a kid in love who had never touched the person he loved intimately before. So this one kind of goes back to my ‘comfortable with each other’ theory.

Oh, and also, that scene where Madame Christmas asks why Roy doesn’t just go play with Elizabeth. What kind of ‘play’ is she insinuating? And why does she know this is something he would do? And why do the other girls think they have a ‘chance’ now that Elizabeth has been taken by another man? What has Roy been telling them about her?

Anyway, these are all minor things. It doesn’t necessarily point to them being in an actual relationship. It’s probably more just evidence that they care for one another beyond that of superior and subordinate, but these are the things that do make me question whether or not they were actually in a secret relationship.

Side Note: I’m talking post Ishval relationship here, not young royai. I’m a firm believer that nothing happened between them pre-Ishval, not even when Roy studied flame alchemy from Riza’s bare back. What I’m talking about here are all the things that make me think they might have had a relationship during the series, in the time after Ishval and after Riza becomes Roy’s subordinate.

Why I think Choni will be canon

First of all, Cheryl is queer, to say the least. And the reason why I know this, is the conversation she had with Betty about Kevin, when he was seeking for validation in the woods. She knew exactly how he felt because she feels the same way, she needs validation and love because no one in her life gave her that apart from Jason and he’s dead, she supported Kevin having a sex-drive because she could relate. Now, going back to the “she needs love” part, I seriously do not believe she would care if that love came from either a girl or a boy, she just needs it, desperately, and this is shown in early season one when she opens up to Veronica, they didn’t even like each other, but she needed comfort, it didn’t matter if it came from someone she didn’t like.

Casey Cott said there WOULD be more LQBTQ+ pairings at Riverdale. Hum… I wonder who that can be.

Now, Toni is a supporting character that’s completely new to the series, and it’s extremely rare, when talking about LQBTQ+ ships for a new supporting character to get into a relationship with ANOTHER new supporting character. Think about literally any other girlxgirl pair in television recently and you’ll get what I’m talking about: allegedly “straight” main character paired with queer new character, and if you look at them closely, they’re CW shows. Because it isn’t exiting to pair a brand new character to another one, it doesn’t leave people shook.

This is the CW, they can’t leave a character single for a long time, so who’s the ONLY option for Toni: Cheryl, who has been let down by men throughout her all freaking life.

About the fact that Madelaine sort of denied “I don’t know where Choni is coming from”, that Choni would be canon… Let me remind you about something. In an interview, before season one ended, Madelaine was asked who she thought was most likely to have killed Jason: the Blossoms, or the Coopers, and although she already had shooted episode twelve, she answered: the Coopers. Meaning: she has lied before about things that people thought could happen, to disguise us all. The result: I was shocked that Clifford killed Jason.

Last, but not least, in this episode they met, and Cheryl had already a nickname for her… that fact just speaks for itself. I’m done.

‘Once Upon A Time’: Jennifer Morrison Won’t Return As Series Regular, Others Near Deals For Season 7

Once Upon a Time original cast member Jennifer Morrison will not return as a series regular if the AMC fantasy is renewed for a seventh season but is expected to reprise her role as Emma Swan as a guest star/recurring, Morrison, who announced her departure on Instagram, was one of four popular cast members approached by ABC Studios about continuing on the show, which is being reimagined for next season, along with fellow original cast members Lana Parrilla (Regina) and Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold) as well as Colin O’Donoghue (Hook), who has been a staple on the show since joining as a series regular in Season 2. The other three are expected to come back.

The contracts of the original Once cast are up at the end of the current season, so Parrilla and Carlyle need new deals while O’Donoghue has another year left on his. I hear Parrilla and Carlyle are close to new pacts. I hear the revamped Once is expected to center on Parrilla, Carlyle, O’Donoghue and The Walking Dead‘s Andrew J. West, who will debut in the upcoming Season 6 finale before joining as a series regular in Season 7.

“The past six years of collaborating with Jennifer as Emma Swan have been truly magical,” said series creators and executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. “Watching her breathe life into Emma, she accomplished more than we could have dreamed possible — she gave life to a brand-new Disney Princess, filled with strength and intelligence and an incredible closet full of red leather jackets.  We’ll miss seeing her every day, but her imprint upon ONCE UPON A TIME is indelible.  She will always be a part of the show and its heart and soul.  That said, just because Jennifer won’t be back every week doesn’t mean we won’t see our savior again.”

Other original cast members, including Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas, who play Emma’s parents, also could appear as guest stars.

The two-hour season finale of Once airs Sunday, May 14 from 8-10 PM.

Pom Pep Fic Recs (Updated!)

 All My top, Completed Pompous Pep fic recommendations:

*Looks like there are some more in the works so hope to add those soon~

Reasons to Object/ Accept: RtO & it’s sequel. The first pom pep fic i ever read (the one that got me into it). By Ninja-Renka. All their fics are amazing, but this is my fave.

Kimura Sato: Just go read all her fics. ALL of THEM. The pom pep ones are Time Tampering, A Year w/ You, The Target & Phantom EXE.

Stalkers & Scones: Au about a lonely business man & a cute barista. Lots of feels. Must read the sequel Wedding Cakes & Winners.

School Boy Crush: What’s not to love about a well written teacher Au?

Escape: Definitely waaay more on the angsty side, but I love how their relationship develops( by the same author as SBC. You know what- just read all their fics too)

Heart of Ice: Basically wishes gone wrong & cat Danny! All the best kinds of ridiculous, romantic & mushy (if you like that sort of thing, which i do).

Summer Sun: Very angsty fic.  Danny’s parents are terrible & Vlad is there to pick up the pieces. But it has a happy ending.

Mad House: This is actually a polyamorous fic between Danny, Vlad & Ghostwriter. Another one of my faves.( I don’t think this ship has name so I’m just gonna call it Mad House).

Trust Me: This one has Dani in it! And super rare Vlad/ Dani bonding!

The Espil Mirror: In which Vlad gets a kick in the pants & some much needed help. (on FFNet & AO3)

The Things I Could Show You: A redone version of the show where Vlad wasn’t so bitter & actually makes a great mentor, friend & more. It’s a whole series! And their other AU fics are great too!

Until Dawn (Au): Pom Pep done horror style. If you like a little (a lot) of gore with your romance then this Au is for you! Also by TTICSY.

Not Part of The Plan: Long one shot to the tune of ‘Vlad never pulled Danny’s ghost half out of him after the Nasty Burger exploded’.

Enough: Post PP, which is rare.

Bowl of Frootloops: Everything from tragedy to fluff. This is a drabble series, but there are some full fics in there. So if you don’t feel like going through all 101 here’s the #’s for the full stories. Blind Au (12,15,27,60,92)  Illness(36,38,45) Grave (14,17) and Masquerade (6).

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well that’s it for now! Hopefully this list will continue to grow~
ok, here's the thing
Im a DAENERYS’ fan , i’m EMILIA’s fan, i like other GoT characters, I love Jon and i’m a Jonerys shippers, but i want to clarify this because i been feeling she’s the one who need protection and fan-love, ironicaly what happen with Kit irl also happen with jon in the show;there’s some general feeling about “his” perfection and worship, ok im not into that but i will let that for another day. People are extremely unfair with Dany and somehow with Emilia as a person too,I’ve read people even calling her a homewrecker because of the rumors, not to mention the bodyshaming and the shit talk about her acting.
I can understand you don’t like her GoT’s character (which is stupid because she’s the fucking best character in the whole serie) but hey!.
Emilia is the sweetest person in the world, you will never see a shady comment or attitude from her, her life is clean and she does her best in every work,I feel the fact that she’s a woman is also a reason for the hate;  even as Dany, many seems to (especially male fans of the serie) no tolerate  that Daenerys is the most powerful “human"in this fantasy world; and there’s no man alive who can defeat her currently , i can see how some men fans of the serie feel their balls shrink every time she win a battle , fucking misogynist assholes…anyway, there’s another day talk too.
Now my point is  if you come for Emilia i swear i will fuck you up…no even subtle ,i will hunt you fucking down, idec how old are you, 11 or 54 , dont mess with Emilia, no on my watch bitch.
Behind the Blog
I have a confession to make.  I don’t know as much as it seems.  Oh sure, I’ve been around the fandom scene for a VERY long time (relatively speaking) so I know some things but a lot of the questions I get (and I love getting askbox questions) tax what I know.  So, I do a lot of research on things which takes me down some weird paths on the internet. Sometimes it reveals shows to me I’ve never heard of before like the now missing early Toei TV series Messenger of Allah.
Sometimes I find shows in genres I don’t usually cover here such as the recently posted about Deka Wanko.
There is just so much either directly or tangentially connected to Tokusatsu and Japanese genre TV fare that I fear I shall never know enough.  When I first started this blog, I kept a pretty narrow focus on Super Sentai but that gradually expanded because Sentai doesn’t exist in a vacuum.  It’s so interconnected to Toei’s other projects and those are connected to the larger medium of tokusatsu (special effects) works from companies like Toho and Tsuburaya who paved the way for the shows that lead to Super Sentai.  It’s shown me that nothing is ever just that one thing and that it’s all a product of trends and techniques, people and passions that lead from one project to another to another.
It’s become this history and the developments that lead to and branches off from or even tried to copy Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and others that have become so fascinating to me. Those lesser known corners of the medium, the single season shows, the cancelled too early dead ends, the lost series dangling mysteriously out of reach.  It also feels like internet pop culture archaeology at times.  I’m exploring another culture through its recent past thanks to artifacts and media left behind.
 Yet, none of these main series are dead.  They keep making more Kamen Rider, more Ultraman, more Godzilla movies and more Super Sentai.  While I explore the past, I also need to keep an eye on the present and look to the future lest I miss great new shows like the recently ended Kamen Rider Ex-Aid or the currently airing Ultraman Geed.
So, it’s not really so much archaeology as it is watching a medium evolve and change in real time.  Super Sentai has only been around for 4 days shorter than I have (42 years as of this writing) and it’s changed immensely.  So has Kamen Rider and Ultraman which are older than I am.
Nothing stays the same lest it dies and I know people who follow me who can’t get into the older shows because of pacing issues or just the way they used to write characters.  Some of the jokes seem so dated or just plain cruel or racist in a modern context and I totally get that.  Pop Culture is, by its nature, a product of the time it was created and often does not age well at all.  What was one totally acceptable is now completely beyond the pale of acceptable content.
A good example of this can be seen in the Ultraman series.  When was the last time you saw a monster get decapitated or dismembered in an Ultraman series? It used to happen all the time.
Originally posted by valiant-chojuhunter-ace
These days though, the monsters tend to just explode when attacked in a similar fashion, hiding what the attacks do to them.
Decapitations have become unacceptable in what is seen as children’s entertainment.  As has explicit bloodshed.  It’s a changing sense of what’s appropriate as society moves on.  It’s fascinating to me to watch these changes as they happen and to note them, which is one reason I do this blog.
The other main reason is because I long ago came to believe that learning about the pop culture of other countries can give us a better understanding of those countries and cultures and break down the barriers we put up between each other.  It’s harder to ‘other’ someone when you come to care about their viewpoints and their heroic narratives. We show what we honestly believe ourselves to be capable of in such fiction whether it be the living embodiment of what America should stand for in the form of Captain America or the virtue of working together selflessly for the common good embodied in Super Sentai.
Now, this may seem a rambling mess but I wanted to share some of my personal thoughts on why I do this and why I keep doing it.  I find these topics and shows absolutely fascinating and I appreciate each and every one of the 2,500 plus followers who are on this journey of discovery with me and who keep driving me to learn more with their insightful and thought provoking questions.
Thank you so much for your time and for making my ramblings on Japanese kids’ shows a part of your social media diet!
Take Back Your Fandom Experience
There is a lot of disappointment about the questionable choices Starz has made related to show PR and how they engage (or don’t engage, or manipulate, or disrespect) Outlander fans.  Some of us roll our eyes over the lame attempts to entice us with S3 “teasers” that are merely still photos from previously-released content.  We guffaw at the ham-fisted captions that aren’t even accurate to the story line.  We side-eye yet another push of the non-existent “love triangle."  Our blood pressure goes up when a "journalist” wastes our time by asking the same stupid questions – or by saying cringe-worthy things instead of asking questions – during interviews.  And nearly all of us have become jaded by the promotion of cast-adjacent people who have absolutely nothing to do with the show yet who creep onto the sidelines full of innuendo to distract and anger us.
But I am here to tell you that you shouldn’t let this ruin your experience.  We do not need to accept what we are being given.
We. Do. Not. Need. Starz.
We only need each other.
Think back to what brought you here in the first place.  It was the story, right?  Perhaps, like me, you were excited to find a community of people who love the books as much as you do.  Maybe you were also thrilled to see the story brought to life by a stellar cast.  You tried to predict how the plot would be adapted for television and engaged in healthy debates about what would make it to the screen and what would not.  You participated in dream casting discussions for characters coming up in future plotlines.  You posted swoon-worthy scenes from the books and sighed over the truly excellent fan fiction and art that was shared here.  You bonded with other fans, finding common points of view.
Eventually many of us were drawn in by PR and got spun up about the back story.  You probably rolled your eyes at Starz’s lack of promotion of their lead actress, even misspelling her name when they did finally acknowledge an award nomination.  You became frustrated by the inconsistent messages that were being sent.  You might even have been taunted by non-fans and bedeviled by the adjacent players.  You likely know someone who was bullied.
Sadly, all of this now overshadows the reason we came together and the community we’ve found.  I have been privileged to meet many of you in person and I always came away amazed at how intelligent, perceptive, and kind you all are.  We likely would not have met except for this forum, but we realize that we have things in common besides Outlander.  We celebrate life events together, provide encouragement to one another, and have each other’s back.  That’s pretty cool.
It pains me that we have already lost several members who could not get past the side show.  But I truly believe that we can go back.  Let’s not let Starz ruin our community.  We don’t need them in order to talk about the story.  We can discuss how *we* would end the series and what we want to see in Book 9.  Let’s revisit favorite passages and characters.  Debate whether the author should continue writing all the damn side quest novellas or just focus on the main story.  (I think you can guess my vote…)  Keep letting your creativity flow through fan fiction, artwork, gifs, and videos.  Continue talking about the stellar production values on the show and how amazingly the actors inhabit their roles.  Squee over seeing favorite scenes brought to life.  Dream about travels in Scotland.  (But don’t touch any standing stones, just in case.)
We have the power to choose how we engage with each other and we don’t have to let what is presented to us dictate our experience.  This doesn’t mean that we have to love everything without critique or excuse rude behavior – and we can still snark – but we don’t have to let the bad overshadow the good.  How powerful would it be to ignore the ineptitude and the side show antics and instead focus on the books, the show, and each other… like we used to?
Let’s take back our fandom.
Adoration [Bucky Barnes x Reader]
Adoration: College!AU in which you and Bucky attend a school that specializes in bringing out its students’ hidden abilities and talents. Bucky’s been assigned to Fire, and he wants nothing more than to show you the one thing he adores almost as much as you.
Words: 1486
Warnings: None really, fluff!
A/N: I would really like to make this into a series if this gets a good response, but its been sitting on my computer for two years so I really need some good feedback and motivation to make it feel worthwhile because I don’t want to post what I’ve got and leave it as a crappy unfinished series. Also, I know there’s another AU I should list this under because of the skills/abilities/whatever but I have no idea what it’s called so if you know please leave me a comment as I’ve been seriously racking my brain. Anyway, happy reading! Xx, Kaitlyn.
Bucky simply adored fire. The excited movements of a live flame, the warmth it brought to his cold fingers when he stood close enough, the bright oranges, yellows, and blues.
He adored fire, unlike the others that had been assigned to his Sector because the administrators–those whose job it was to overlook applications and conduct interviews to determine where students belonged–believed fire “suited” them. The statement alone was enough to make him scoff. He found his own placement ironic because growing up everyone told him that he would get assigned to Ice. His favorite season was winter, he loved to be out in the cold, he’d spent a considerable amount of time in Russia one December, he could go on. Despite all that, Bucky never shook his infatuation with flame, so when he opened the letter that had been addressed to him and closed with a wax seal, he was simultaneously shocked and unsurprised to see the large red Fire printed at the top of his acceptance letter. Still, he thought of the placements of his peers and felt disgusted. Fire did not suit them; he knew who fire suited.
It suited you.
But not in the same way it suited him. Bucky was attracted to fire, but fire would be attracted to you.
You weren’t in his sector, though. You were in Art.
He sneered at the placement. ‘What a waste of her,’ he would think. It was just another example of the fact that these administrators probably weren’t as good at their jobs as everyone claimed them to be.
Nonetheless, he would look at your paintings and declare that they were almost as beautiful as you were. However, whenever he looked up at the colorful building that was on the way to his own Sector, he would wonder how in the world your administrator had decided to place you into Art when you came to the school not even being able to draw a face. At least one above stick-figure level, that is.
Why couldn’t you be in Nature, or something, if not Fire? At least it was elemental and you had the heart and the mind to be able to manipulate the elements. Plus, elements sometimes worked with other sectors on projects during the term, and that would give him an excuse to see you. As if he really needed one. But instead you were in fine arts and you would work on projects like painting sets for Theater or creating pieces from songs students had composed in Music.
If you were in Nature, he thought, flowers would bloom the second that you touched them. You grew up surrounded by nature, and had even told him stories about sneaking out of your bedroom as a little girl just to dip your toes in the creek that ran through your backyard. But as Bucky continued to think about it, he realized that if you were in Nature and he touched you there was the chance that he could burn you down so easily… You were already so delicate. In that moment he was glad you weren’t in Nature.
And the more Bucky thought about it, the more he realized that maybe he wasn’t giving the administrators enough credit. Maybe their jobs were to put students in a Sector that was a little less obvious. A Sector to awaken something deep inside of you.
You warned him not to be so attracted to fire.
“It’s heart-stopping,” Bucky insisted, crossing his legs on the rough carpeted floor of his dorm room.
“Not literally, I hope,” you joked, though the laugh that came from your lips was weak. You were laying on his bed, and you propped yourself up on your elbow to see him better. He looked at you, unamused, and rolled his eyes. You pouted playfully at him. “Oh come on, stop that.”
He huffed and looked up at you again, bright blue eyes meeting Y/E/C ones. He placed his palms flat on the floor. “I wish you would let me show ya, doll. It’s fascinating, what you could do. And if we made it hot enough, it could match my eyes.” He gave you a playful wink and sat up on his knees, resting his forearms on the bed as he reached out to stroke your cheek with his fingertips, wanting to convince you.
This wasn’t the first time he had asked, and it surely wouldn’t be the last.
It was almost daily that Bucky would try to get you to just let him show you what he could do, but you always insisted it was too dangerous. ‘What if something goes wrong?’ or ‘What if you catch something on fire?’ or ‘What if you burn yourself?’ were your most famous lines when regarding his constant advances.
He would always just chuckle and shake his head. “Doll, if I caught stuff on fire or burned myself, then I don’t think they would have reassigned me to Fire two years in a row,” he had assured you once.
You pulled your legs up underneath yourself on the bed. “I don’t know, Buck, it’s dangerous.”
“Come on, it’s fun.” Bucky reached over to his bedside table and dug through the top drawer, pulling out a matte black matchbox with the school’s crest embossed on the front. He retrieved a match and struck it by letting his finger glide over it–something he’d learned to do his first term–and the flame moved to dance over his fingertip.
Your eyes widened immediately. “James!” you hissed, leaning forward and grabbing his wrist. “You aren’t allowed to do that in the dorms!”
“And you ain’t allowed in a guy’s room, yet here you are.” He smirked and climbed up onto the bed from his place on the floor, easily prying his arm from your grasp. His knees settled on either side of your hips so he was straddling you, causing you to lay back on the mattress.
A blush bloomed over your cheeks and you stuttered, flustered. “Y-You asked me to come over…”
He cocked his head to the side playfully, a stray hair falling in front of his eyes. If you hadn’t been so distracted you would’ve reached up to brush it out of his face. “Oh, did I?” he questioned sweetly and raised his unfettered hand to brush your own hair behind your ear before gliding the soft flame along your cheek. He was careful not to let it linger too long–you were new to this, after all–but he knew how to control it. If you got scared, however, it became tricky and the flame could flare up and accidentally hurt you.
Your breath hitched in your throat and you looked up into his eyes, the small flame reflecting off his irises. “B-Bucky…” you whispered as the fire tickled your soft skin.
“Y/N,” he hummed in return, the flame licking over your collarbones now, dangerously close to the edge of your shirt.
You sighed and let your head fall back, giving in and allowing Bucky to guide the flame over your body. There was always secretly a little piece inside of you that wanted to let Bucky do what he had pestered you for over a year about, but you were never one to break rules.
“You’re beautiful, ya know,” he whispered to you, lips pressed against your jawline. “Just imagine your body bathed in fire… You would look like an absolute goddess.” He extinguished the flame on his finger, lips moving feverishly along your skin now as his hand slipped beneath your shirt. “We could trade for tonight,” he proposed. “I give you my fire, and you let me paint you.”
You nodded almost immediately, eyes fluttering open. Your chest was rising and falling with excited breaths. “Please…”
Bucky could hardly hide his excitement, his eyes quickly lighting up at your agreement. His hands were quick to rid you of your shirt, and in less than a moment your clothes littered his floor. He kissed down your body slowly before getting up from the bed. “You have to trust me,” he said gently as he grabbed the fireproof blanket from his bottom drawer, spreading it over the bed and then striking another match.
You nodded. “I trust you.”
He kissed your stomach once more before slowly bringing the flame up to your body. He’d practiced this for so long that he knew there was no way he would hurt you.
The flame seemed to jump eagerly onto your skin, causing you to gasp as the fire engulfed you.
“Shh,” he whispered, “it won’t hurt you if you stay calm, doll, I promise.” He took a step back, capturing his lower lip between his teeth. “My god, you’re so beautiful…” he mused and looked you over, never wanting to forget that moment.
He had the two things he adored most right there in front of him.
A/N: Alright, again, please let me know what you think! I’d really like to continue this but obviously I’ll only do that if there’s an audience interested enough in it. Feel free to leave me requests as well, I love writing when I have the time! Xx.
Fairy Tail Chapter 544 Review
And so the Alvarez arc ends
Our cover page is blank. Y’know, I kinda like that it’s blank. Like the simplicity of it.
So our chapter opens on Acnologia and Natsu squaring off. Okay, I’m going to say this once, Acnologia eats magic. He is immune to magic. It doesn’t matter if Natsu is using 7 magic at once Acnologia can just be immune to it.
We cut to the real world and, big shock, Fairy Sphere isn’t working
All seems lost till…
No… Just, no… You don’t get to pull this and wave it away with a joke… This horse crap. We haven’t seen Meredy in almost a year, since the Neinhart battle. You don’t get to do this without any foreshadowing. Fucking hell.
So it appears that Meredy has linked all together and in all honesty, this doesn’t really bother me. I mean seriously, it’s just enhancing fairy sphere and I’ve already said I was okay with the fairy sphere plan, so really it’s just adding more magic. It honestly makes sense. But I do have an issue with something else…
This. This montage of all these characters coming and giving their magic. Why does this irk me. Well it’s how this arc was structured. This cliche of everyone we’ve met giving their power is often seen in finally arcs and it’s one I usually am okay with. But the reason this doesn’t work for me is because of the narrow scope of this war. We barely focused on characters outside of FT, and the ones here in this montage that could be argued that they contributed are the wizard saints and Ultear. But everyone else, what have they done? What is their stake? With a war, you want to show it’s effects on everyone. Not just the people fighting, but the people watching. Sho and Wally didn’t have to fight, but how are they affect by this war? How are the people of Galuna affected? How does Flare feel? Did Lucky and Marl fear for Happy? They don’t have to be involved in the battles, but we do have to know their feelings. In a sense, “We don’t beat the dragon king, we all die” is a reason, but that’s only a fundamental idea. There is so much more potential to this moment that’ ultimately  feels shallow.
So Fairy Sphere works and Acnologia is cut off from magic…. Somehow? Yeah they make a big deal about how there are two Acnologia’s, but apparently the same effects apply to both? But hey even if he can’t move he’s still invulnerable to magic right?
You know I didn’t have a problem with Lucy and her thing, but I really do have a problem with Natsu and this crap. No. He’s not the only one who can beat acnologia at this moment, all of you could! I am completely fine if Natsu got the final blow, he’s the main character after all, but not like this. Not with the other 6 characters sacrificing all their value that’s been established just for Natsu in this incredibly forced situation. Fuck off.
And so this all ends with a giant flaming punch…. Why change anything…
Y’know this moment with Acnologia would mean a lot, if there was more to him. Like, this comes off as more regretful he can’t get what he wanted, but he had no larger goal outside destruction.
Again this would mean more if there was more focus on Natsu and if he was feeling like friendship wasn’t enough or something…
Well we need to get in our last Rave Master rip off, and what better than Lucia’s death scene.
Back in the real world, Acnologia explodes…. Cool…
Hooray! Rejoice! This arc is finally over!
And the DS return…
Okay Points for not having Natsu fall into Lucy’s tits. Actually round off applause there was no fanservice this chapter. Like it really wanted to treat this with the sense of poise an ending should have.
Well… 11 years people, all built up to this. And next week, it’ll all be over. Can’t wait to see what happens. But by those ending captions I’m sure a ton of shippers are happy.
Post Chapter Follow Up: Well that was… Something…
Alright let’s hit the positives, first of all the art work. Everything in this chapter was just beautifully drawn, characters were detailed liked crazy, action changed to this more thick chaotic look and it really made the mood come together.
The next this is, Meredy is a horrible deus ex machina, but the thing that she’s doing with everyone adding to the sphere honestly is okay. It’s not perfect, but from what’s been established in the series, it makes sense that we’d need this many people to make a sphere to hold Acnologia. Another thing I will give this chapter is it trying to give this sense of grandeur. Everything was done like this was an epic climax and didn’t undercut itself with stupid jokes or fanservice. But as you’ll see, these small things don’t save this climax.
The best thing is probably the scale. This is a great way to show just how 11 years has crafted this world. But this ties into the negatives because, while it does have this great scale, it means almost nothing. Because of how narrow focused the war was, this loses a lot of weight and just becomes an empty gesture.
Also on the negatives, it the actual fight. Yes this is a disappointing way for the series’s big villain to end. I think the worst part is, there’s nothing new. It’s Natsu making a platitude about friendship and doing a big punch. Same as always. It also doesn’t help that both sides characterization was flat.
It’s like this wants us to forget that Acnologia is immune to magic in general, but just pulls the win out of it’s ass. It’s not like fairy sphere makes it impossible to lose his natural abilities.
All I can say is this chapter was underwhelming… Like I knew it wasn’t going to be good, but after all this time spent on Acnologia and building up to it, it’s underwhelming. It hits all the same beats it usually does for FT fights, just on a bigger scale.
Final Verdict: 3/10
  • Underwhelming
  • Everything I expected it to be
  • Scale is nice, but very shallow sentiment
Drag of the Day (02/14/2017): The Boulet Brothers!
Again, another dynamic drag duo that many already know about, BUT apparently some do not… and EVERYONE needs to know who the fuck the Boulet Brothers are! They’ve been keeping it spooky for 15+ years, with alternative events that bring out all the ghouls! You’ve probably seen me promoting the shit out of their YouTube series on Hey Queen called Dragula (go watch it if you haven’t, and if you haven’t make everyone you know go watch it right now), but Dragula actually started out as one of their regular events in Hollywood. I am so happy that Dragula got to be made into a show and I hope so very badly that they make a season 2 because, even after one season, it is now my favorite show ever. Deal with it. The Boulet Brothers always crank out amazing, fang-tastic lqqks and one day I will attend one of their events and ask them to adopt me.
Go watch Dragula on YouTube dammit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK0-nz02P8Y&t=1s
