i need a list of people to tag for certain ships

I’ve always wanted to talk a bit lenghtily about my opinions on fic, fic writing and the general writer-fic-reader culture and I just saw an extremely unpleasant “article” on ao3 that righeously attacks a certain genre of fanfic that I personally don’t read, nor like, but the existence of which really doesn’t bother me.

First things first, to me the positives of fanfiction vastly outnumber the negatives. I am used to living in absolute certainty that anytime I want to have fun, escape or get a little hot and bothered, there will always be fic to provide that for me. I will always, always find a fic I love. Notice I am saying fic *I* love, not, “fic that is good”. And having this certainty, I become entirely unbothered by the automatically existing other group, aka fics I don’t love.

Despite commenting on fics as much as I can, and participating in the fandom, there is still something utterly personal about fanfiction to me. It’s reading it on my phone as I’m shaky and queasy on my way to an exam, to a job interview, to an annoying doctor’s appointment. It’s loading up fics to my kindle and reading them at 3am on the plane when it kind of seems like neither time nor space are real anymore. It’s checking my ao3 subscription emails right after my alarm goes off because finding out a fave WIP updated might actually wake my brain up in a pleasant manner. I’m not exaggerating when I say I go through my life non-stop reading fics bit by bit.

What each and every one of the writers responsible for those fics gives me is priceless. And they are not even asking for a price! Just some damn decency.

The phrase “don’t like don’t read” might seem simplistic and in a way, almost illogical - except with the existence of meticulous tagging system, it becomes reality. Tags are there to warn and to entire. Writers, use them. Readers, read them. But it doesn’t stop there. It is, in fact, entirely possible to open a fic and find it wanting and still follow that directive. How? Close the damn tab. If you want to nitpick it, the phrase becomes “i have read, i haven’t liked, i have stopped reading”.

Now, we are people. We get passionate about fandoms, characters, ships, so I get that not everyone - not all the time - is capable of being so chill about being faced with something they seriously didn’t like.

Don’t inflict it on the author. And - and this is a peeve of mine - don’t passively aggresively inflict it on all the authors who might read your vague, public rant and think “is this me?” or who will add it to that ever growing list of mental barriers and doubts that we seem to be soaking up like sponges. Just tell it to a friend. Punch a pillow. Go and find a fic you love.

Remember that even though it seems your taste might be objective, or “common sense” - and this is easy to fall into especially when things like basic grammar are involved - it’s just not. Not in these cases. That description of my daily fic consumption I wrote above? That has been going on for years and years. Somewhat recently I decided to look up fics for an old ship of mine, remembering how deeply I loved them, how I reread them many times, and I was so giddy about getting to enjoy myself like that again. My reaction was a little “oh”. It was not only me whose tastes have changed, but also fandom and fic writing that has evolved, however, that doesn’t at all alter my past enjoyment. And for every fic you scoff at, there might be a reader who is at an entirely different place than you are, and is loving it. Don’t undo their support by your selfish lash out.

Bottom line, just focus on what you do. Focus on finding what you like. Support what you like. It’s not like “bad” and “good” fic are fighting for their place on the interwebs and only one can get the spot. This is not a limited space library.

If you need a more candid conversation about things like ships, characterizations and so on, turn to meta. Meta is there for people to disagree on, because meta should follow rules of logic and analysis. Fanfiction doesn’t have to.

anonymous asked:

Umm hey! I know this sounds stupid but... Where do ereri shippers read those all bombass fanfics they talk about? I search google and only find old un updated fics, is there any certain sites like archive, wattpad or whatever?

Hello anon! It’s not stupid at all ^^. Do not worry.

Ereri is a very popular ship, so there are fanfics for this pairing on many sites. But I believe the one that has the most is Archive of our Own.

I personally read most fics in there, or directly here on tumblr.

AO3 is really good because it lets you do very specific searchs. Once you are inside the Shingeki no Kyojin fandom and the Eren/Levi pairing, you will see a column on the right that lets you choose several options.

If as you say, you have trouble finding new stuff, you can sort by “Date Updated”. This way you can find fics that are recent. You can also for example mark the option below that says “Complete Only”, if you don’t want wips, that way you can find works that have been completed recently.

Just like that you can choose any option and look around for most popular, lenght, add tags you’re interested in, etc.

For tumblr, I’m going to give you a rec list with some writers. Of course this is just a list at the top of my head, and not complete at all, there are SO MANY good authors in the fandom! But these are mostly the ones I can remember right now that I have read something from, or that are on my to read list (adulting is hard I want more time to read fanfics pls).

If you check their blogs for their writing tags, or follow the links to their ao3 accounts, you will find a lot of good stuff! Also please go follow them because they’re really nice people ^^:

@crying-abt-fictional-people - @milleandra-nebula - @raindrop-rouge - @raefill - @erenfanclub - @sugarplum-senpai - @appleapplepeach - @perksofbeingawaifu - @sciencefictioness - @mongoose-bite - @wasterella - @porcelain-blue - @kingkoganes - @monsoondownpour - @fuzzyporcupine -  @haberkonium - @kahleniel  - @gray-x-natsus-matching-hip-scars - @zhedang - @twisting-vine-x - @agent-2-6  - @kiokushitaka - @glassesgirl0401 - @pinkheichou - @icecat45 - @scrangie - @missmichellebelle - @bfketh - @ryuusea - @leviheichouackerman - @the-relatively-straight-guy - @pureren - @reinamycloud - @sailorheichou - @teapotscandal.

I hope I didn’t forget anyone, I did this list really quickly by memory (and I’m suprised I remembered so many haha), I might come back and edit it later if I need to add someone else. Like I said earlier there are of course many other writers around but I’m probably not familiar with their works myself.

I hope this helped you anon, good luck finding new stuff to read!

anonymous asked:

Hi!! I was wondering if you had any advice for a newbie studyblr / bullet journalist ?

Hello there, lovely anon!! ♥ I actually joined the studyblr community pretty recently (just this month!) so I hope I can answer your question well /// !! Since I’m pretty new, there’s still quite a bit I have yet to learn myself!

➸ advice for a new studyblr

Don’t be afraid to just start.

  • Honestly! There’s no need to feel insecure about your posts, spreads, handwriting, picture quality, stationary - everyone in the studyblr community is so sweet and positive and helpful I begin to feel spoiled. I hope you do to!
  • Don’t feel self conscious about anything. You’re beautiful, wonderful, and perfect just the way you are. There is no better you than you!
  • Stop comparing your posts and blog to other people’s. There’s a lot for you to learn, and it won’t all come immediately. Notes, followers - it takes time.

Reach out to other studyblrs!!

  • Say hi, send asks, make friends! Make comments on other’s posts, send compliments or help where you can. Just being active in the community can help you get attention but also give you a wonderful time. A studyblr is to help you grow, and this is a great way to keep you motivated in doing so.
  • Along the same line, try to find ways to interact with your followers!

Tags, Tags, Tags!

  • A lot of studyblrs will track a tag and will often reblog your content if you tag your original posts with it! You can find out what tag to put by checking out a studyblr’s page (for example, I track #studyfeather). You can make a list for yourself if that helps! (: But try not to be too overwhelming or overuse it. Maybe switch up which tracked tags you use from post to post.
  • Make a tag for you to track! It would make sense that if you’re using tracked tags to make one for yourself to spread the love.
  • Have a tag that is specific to your original content (mine is #featherpost)!!! It will make it nice and easy for those who come across your blog to find what you’re posting about. Having original content helps others have more interest in your blog!
  • A lot of what you are reblogging can serve as a resource for yourself. I like to reblog posts that inspire me, or have spreads I might try, masterposts, etc. If its important for you to find what you’re reblogging for later, make a tag system for yourself. For example, heres @ / studypetals’ tags page or @ / studyquill’s navigation page if you need any ideas. This is a great idea if other people begin using your blog as a resource as well.

Take advantage of all the information you see.

  • There are so many posts that address procrastination, time management, stress, note taking, school - anything at all - that is made available to you. It’s one thing to see the information, but it’s another to make use of it. (And don’t be afraid to share your knowledge either!) You can even make posts about trying out different advice if that helps motivate you to try something out.

Make an introductory post!

  • Help others get to know you better by putting together an introductory post! It’s never too late to make one, so don’t worry about making one if your blog has been up for a bit.
  • From what I’ve discovered, introductory posts tend to have the following information (not every one has ALL of this, it’s up to you what you’d like to add): name, age, school year, why you started a studyblr, your classes, some of your favorite studyblrs, other blogs you have (and other sites you’re on), any anything else you’d like to say/add.
  • If you use tracked tags or tag studyblrs you love, it can help get your blog noticed! (:

Post original content!

  • I touched on this earlier, but this is so important. One of the best ways for your studyblr to succeed is posting your own work and sharing it to the community. You never know how many people will love it, be inspired by it, follow you from it, or contact you because of it.
  • Be fairly consistent in posting original content. I try to post at least once a week even though I’m pretty busy. It helps motivate me to keep my bujo and studyblr going! You can try out the 100 days of productivity or some studyblrs put together monthly study challenges you can keep up with. As an example, here’s a May Study Challenge I might try out!
  • In posting original content, make sure you link information you’re referencing to help others that much more!

Queue your posts!!

  • A great way to keep your blog active is to queue your posts. I have my posts queued at 10 each day and try to keep at least 20 posts in my queue at all times, in case a couple of busy days keep me from adding more. Some people unfollow inactive blogs - and this can be a way to prevent it.
  • The only thing I don’t queue are original posts and asks, but it’s up to you if you decide to use the queue system or not!

➸ advice for a new bullet journalist

Real quick!! I would advise taking a look at the bullet journal’s official website to help understand the basics of bullet journaling.

  • It’s designed to be quick and customizable way for you to keep information and tasks organized. A great way to make use of this (that I’ve found) is to make a key for each of your logs. You can see my key here. You can also search tumblr for bujo keys to see what others have come up with. If you do want to make a key, make it so that it works for you!  It can be as simple or detailed as you want, with or without signifiers, etc. If you don’t like this system, that’s just fine!

Discover different journal options and where to find them.

  • There is no set journal to use, however there are popular choices among the studyblr community: Moleskine, Leuchtturm1917, and Muji journals - but it is NOT limited to these. Working with a regular notebook works just fine as well!
  • It’s one thing to find and purchase something online - but I like being able to find what I’m looking for in person. It saves shipping + handling costs, and I get to it immediately. And, sometimes, they can be cheaper too! I found my moleskine journal I’ve been using at Barnes and Noble, and have also seen Leuchtturm1917 journals at my school’s book store. (The temptation is real every time I walk past OTL)

Your bullet journal is for you, so let’s make it that way.

  • A big part of having a studyblr is to help yourself in becoming more productive in learning and improving a lifestyle (or this may just be how I see it). So! There is no set format for you to use a bullet journal. It’s up to you to figure out what works best for you.
  • You can take inspiration from other people’s post to help experiment with different spreads and layouts. (Be sure to credit/tag if you do! Just to be safe.)
  • You can find out different things that you can add to your bujo! Habit trackers, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly spreads, lists of things to keep track of (books to read, tv shows and episodes to watch, shopping/wish lists, bucket list, etc), anything you’re interested in. Depending on your interests and areas you wan’t to use a bujo to help you with, this can vary. If you want, you can test out different ideas to see if you like it or not. It will take time to find what you like, so don’t stress about it in the beginning. You’re just starting, after all!
  • There is always something for you to do, it’s just a matter of finding out what that is. If you need any help of finding something to do, feel free to message me! (As long as you don’t mind me asking a bunch of questions haha.)

Don’t be afraid to use pencil first when making your spreads.

  • Me being me, trusted myself to use pen right off the bat. Boy, do I regret that XD It got to the point where I purchased an erasable pen but I’m finding nothing can beat pencil before pen. But before you erase the pencil - make sure the pen has dried. I can’t stress this enough. I’ve gotten impatient multiple times and go ahead to erase, and instantly wished I hadn’t. You can try to find pens that prevent this from happening, but waiting is the best alternative. Something you can do is make a spread at night, and wait to erase when you wake up in the morning. You can keep your bujo open to the page you worked on for it to dry better.

You don’t need any fancy or expensive stationary.

  • Seeing the pastel highlighters, wide variety of pens and miscellaneous tools it’s easy to think you need to have it all but … you don’t have to have any of it. Especially if you are low on funds, don’t worry about getting anything new. Just work with what you have! I have been using pens I’ve owned for years and have hardly touched to see what I can do with them and am pleasantly surprised! I have a bunch of supplies that I have gotten for school that haven’t been used that I plan on finally putting to use.
  • Your basic school supplies with notebooks, highlighters, pens and pencils, post it notes, can take you as far as you wish!

Having a difficult time coming up with a spread? Here’s some ideas!

  • Try out different hand written fonts. This can include headers/titles and subheaders/subtitles. Try headers, banners, and dividers too! Here’s some different ideas: x | x | x | x
  • Give your spread a theme. Disney, movie, music, history, art, cartoon shows, books - anything at all! This can help with finding art to fill in blank spaces to give your spread some more interest. Here’s a post with a bunch of ideas you could use.
  • Colors! Try out different color combinations! Being an art student, I’m overly conscious of colors. They can help set a mood, evoke certain emotion, some colors work best with others (be smart when using complimentary colors), etc. Here’s a site that covers basic color theory. But … this is me being nerdy. This can take quite a bit of thought - but you honestly don’t have to (: !! It’s best if you stick to one or two colors within a page not to overwhelm what others are seeing, especially if you’re wanting to keep things minimal. If you want me to go deeper into this, and talk more about contrast and whatnot … I can make a separate post as not to clutter this one ♥
  • Make goals for yourself! This can be included in a habit tracker, but doesn’t need to be. They can be as small as going on a 20 minute walk each day during this week, being sure to stay hydrated, doing something with a family member or friend, completing or starting a big project or assignment, etc.
  • Find some quotes and add them! Here’s some quote masterposts I’ve come across: x | x | x | x

When taking pictures, be conscious of lighting.

  • The best kind of lighting is natural lighting. Taking pictures outside (or inside) during the day will help your image quality! I know before I said picture quality doesn’t matter much, but this can be a simple and easy way to help improve your posts.
  • If natural lighting isn’t helping you the way you want, you can take a look at different apps with photo editing capabilities or filters. I have a horrible app finding ability, and just use Photoshop (you can get PS CS2 for free here) or Clip Studio Paint to edit my photos. My favorite tool to use is the tone curve. However you can see this post to look at other options, like apps (it also links to other posts you can look at)!

Have a good time!

  • Honestly, I feel this is what it boils down to. As long as you are enjoying what you’re doing and continue to have a passion for studyblr related content, you’ll succeed. Don’t stress about it and take one post at a time.

I’ll start putting together a post of how I started my studyblr in case that may help as well! Thank you for asking, anon! Hopefully this helps, and that I was able to cover everything! T o T Sorry I kinda went on a bit of a tangent in some areas.

Q+A For ConcertTeamup

Hello everyone! I hope some of this clear things up. I understand some are a little confused on how this all works! Remember I am always here if you have any questions or concerns, please send them through messages or on ask! Lots of to you all! x

Q:   “Is this legit?”

A: Yes, I want this all to be as safe as possible for fans. We don’t scam and we don’t lie.

Q: “I’m selling a ticket, how do I do this?”

A: You have already done what you need to do! All I need to know is that you have one (or more) available for purchase! I will then find you someone to match with, as soon as possible.

Q: “How do I send a request or submission for a ticket/s?”

A: Simple! Send them through ask or messaging! Both are available and open. Submitting makes it a little difficult to answer you directly though.

Q: “What should I send for the request for tickets?”

A: Just tell me what show you are wanting to attend to, and how many tickets you need, also if you need a specific ticket. It is nice to know your age, your name also how much you are offering but that is totally optional for you to tell me.

Q: “How do I get ‘Matched’”

A: Simple, pretty much once I find a ticket, and if you are chosen. I tell you who you have been matched with. I will also then tell you that you should contact each other for how you want it all to be arranged. I don’t want to intrude on your details so I leave the communication aspect to be completely up to you two.

Q: “I have been matched and am talking to the seller/buyer and we need help”

A: I am always here to help you guys in any way that I can.

Q: “I have been matched but i’m getting a strange vibe”

A: I’m very sorry to hear that. We want this to be as safe and easy as possible. If you for some reason feel that there is something shady coming from your seller/buyer, please let us know immediately. I will ask you to share what you think might be happening. I will then talk to the two of you to sort it out. It will then be asked to the seller for proof by photo and/or video of the ticket/s. If you still feel that there may be more going on, I will gladly find you someone else that you feel safer with. Although, there is a very slight chance that you will be scammed, as I talk to all of you before you are matched and make sure that you have good intentions.

Q: “I already have tickets, I just don’t want to go alone”

A: That is totally understandable, and congrats on getting tickets! I will try and find someone to match you with as soon as possible so you have someone to attend the show with.

Q: “How do I pay once I have been matched?”

A: I leave this up to the two of you to decide as people have different requirements. Although I know you can send the payment through Ticketmaster, Paypal, Bank Transfers, etc. But again the decision is totally up to and what works best for you and your seller/buyer. Im always here if you need any assistance.

Q: “How do I send the tickets to the buyer?”

A: As of right at this moment, nobody has their physical tickets as its only been about 36 hours since tickets sold out. But in the future you are able to connect with each other on Ticketmaster to transfer tickets, without any costs and also safely. You can also mail tickets as an option, but we all know that shipping physical items may get lost in delivery. Again this is totally up to the buyer/seller, which ever method works best for the two of you is important. Im always here for help.

Q: “I have been matched, and have successfully gotten my tickets, but I no longer need them”

A: Thats totally fine! I will find someone for you to match with! You now take on the role as a seller.

Q: “I have been matched to a seller, but I don’t need the ticket/s anymore”

A: Sorry to hear that! We will then find someone else for the ticket/s”

Q: “Will you let us know if you have any available?”

A: Yes of course! As soon as I have some available, you will all be notified. I recommend turning our posts notifications on. You can do this by going on my home page and selecting the person shaped icon in the right corner, once selected there should be a “Get Notifications” button. Click that. There will then be a lightning bolt next to the icon to confirm. I am always here for help if you are confused.

A: “Can I be added to the ___ list”

Q: Yes, although there is no waiting list. Once I let you guys know that there is a ticket available, I will also tell you a specific word (Example: “Green”, “Pink”, “Sweet Creature”) Send me the word that I ask for that is linked to that ticket, and you will be added to a list that will help me randomly draw one of you for the ticket. I want it to be as fair as possible. If you guys prefer a waiting list, please let me know. I want all of you to get a chance.

Q: “How do I get chosen for tickets, is there something I can do”

A: Demand for tickets is very high at the moment. Send me a request, and also keep on the look out for my posts. I don’t choose for who I think deserves it more, I think you all deserve a chance and a ticket. I don’t single people out if they believe in specific ‘ships’ or if they just created a blog that day. We all support the same person/people and I think thats very important, so no at this moment there is no special way to get a ticket. In the future there may be a list, but no I want this to be as fair as possible. If you disagree or have another opinion, please let me know again I want what works best for all of you!

Q: “I didn’t get any tickets the last time you had some available”

A: Don’t give up, there will be more to come. It’s only been two days and I have already been able to match people. Just keep your eyes peeled on my account.

Q: “How much time do people have to be entered on to the list for the  ______ show?”

A: After I notify you all that I have a ticket available. Im giving you all 12 hours to send me the specific word. Please keep in mind that may change depending on if the seller will allow this much time.

Q: “You didn’t reply, was I not on the list?”

A: If you sent me the word in the correct time, you would have been on the list. If I don’t answer its because I have quite a few messages, but don’t worry nobody is going unnoticed. I see all.

Q: “Do you have the ticket physically”

A: No, I dont. A direct you to someone who does and is safe/reliable.
Think of me as a manager.

Q: “If you manage to get tickets, will the name change to yours?”

A: No, I don’t think the name will change. As far as I’m aware the person who first bought the ticket will have their name on it.

Q: “Where exactly are you getting the tickets from”

A: Either someone has come to me saying they have some for sale, or I look for them myself through other platforms.

Q: “For example, if I was able to get a ticket to the Sydney show with your help, will there be a problem when I show them the ticket at the venue…? Because I heard several people saying that they may not let you in if it doesn’t have your name on it or something like that?”

A: From what I’ve heard is that its different for every place. Some people will only be allowed access if the person who originally bought the tickets is there with ID for proof. This is where we get the name ‘concertTeamUp’. So if someone is selling a ticket the buyer can tag along with the person who has their name on the ticket. This way you will be “Teaming Up” and going to the show together. Although some places also don’t need for the person who originally bought the ticket with their name on it to be there. I would suggest calling and/or emailing the venue that you are planning to go to. We would hate for someone to get a ticket but not be allowed access. Let us know if you do contact the venues, we can then make a post about the guidelines for each place, if you guys wish.

Q: “If I am matched but I don’t respond right away, will it be given away to someone else?”

A: No. I will wait for your response. If you don’t need the ticket anymore I will give it to someone else though.

Q: I sent a message but Im not sure you got it, you didn’t reply.”

A: Most cases I have seen it, I just haven’t had the chance to reply. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Again, I didn’t realize my blog would be noticed as much as it is. So don’t panic, I do see all.

Q: “I’m still confused”

A: Thats totally okay! Message me and I will try my best to help you understand!

Q: “Are you selling two tickets at a time to one person?”

A: I understand people need more than one ticket, so I will try my best for you. If I have two available and you are chosen, you may be in luck.

Q: “Will you tell us details about the ticket?”

A: Normally I will tell you the amount of tickets, the place and the price. Its up to the seller on how much information is to be posted.

Q: “Are trades available?”

A: Yes! Absolutely!

Q: “I don’t have very many places to share your blog.”

A: That is totally fine! You are not obligated to share my blog. This also does not effect your chances of being chosen for a ticket.

Q: “Where should I share your blog?”

A: It’s completely up to you! Twitter is a good way, but honestly any form of sharing is good and very appreciated! Please don’t feel pressured though.

Q: “Are there groups of people that I can tag along with?”

A: Yes! I can find you a match! Also feel free to try and start one! Let me know if you do!

Q: “I know people looking for and buying tickets, should I tell them about you!”

A: Its up to you! It will definitely help though!

Q: “What cities have you sold to?”

A: I may be wrong but from what I remember its been, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Singapore, and New York.

Q: ”Are you only selling tickets to certain cities?”

A: Whatever tickets for whatever shows find there way over here they will be posted. Im selling for all shows.

Q: “If you have already sold a ticket for a show, will that be the only one?”

A: No, when more come they will be posted no matter how many times its been sold before on here.

Again I am trying my absolute best for all of you! I want this to be a place where we can connect to one another as fans. Thank you for submitting and also for paying attention. It truly does mean a lot, fingers crossed that I get you your ticket/s!

I hope this clears up some things! Again, please know Im always available for anything. These were the most asked questions, so If more come at a high rate I could make a Part 2. Also I apologize for the length of this post, I hope it helps though! x

Much love to you all, x

Shipping and Bullying

I feel the need to talk about this. Sorry for the long post but I feel this is very important and needs to be said. I would appreciate it if everyone took the time to read through it, I’ve bolded the important parts for quick reading otherwise.

So I’m going through the WOY tags and I’m seeing hate about a certain ship (I won’t say what or point fingers) and I would just like to express how very disappointed I am in some fans.

I know there have been shipping wars in the past and it can happen in any fandom but the Wander Over Yonder fandom has always been so supportive of one another and taken the show’s kind nature to heart. Most of the fans still do and I’m very proud of this fandom for that.

If you support a ship then good for you, have fun with that ship! Whether it’s with canon or original characters, doesn’t matter. If it makes you happy then embrace the ship and be proud of it!

If you don’t support a ship, just ignore it and move on. DO NOT call others out on it or become a bully. You can download add-ons to blacklist the ship names so you don’t have to see it. Or you can block blogs that post those ships if it bothers you too much. You wouldn’t like it if someone insulted your favorite ship so don’t insult theirs.

Words hurt and people can be greatly affected by it.

So think about what you are saying and how it may affect that person. You don’t know what that person is going through, some people are more sensitive than others and we have all seen first hand what bullying can lead to. Do not take that chance.

These differing opinions make the fandom more diverse and that is a fantastic thing.

Despite these differences people can still ‘click’, people who disagree on ships can still be friends. Instead we should all be uniting over this great show and showing our love for it, supporting one another, inspiring each other and helping everyone to improve. That goes for the fan artists, the writers, the SaveWOY supporters, the “shit-posters”, the re-bloggers, anyone who is involved in this fandom.

I too have my OTPs and NOTPs but all ships are welcome on this blog and I reblog every kind of ship, not only for myself but so my followers can see great art and the artists can get more exposure. (All shipping posts are tagged by their names so they can be black-listed if necessary). I love seeing how different everyone is yet how we are all still one big happy family, united by something we are all so passionate about.

If you are being bullied:

If you are experiencing any kind of bullying or harassment over a ship you like, go straight ahead and block the person doing so. Don’t give yourself time to mull over them and what they have said to you. Just go and block them. You’ll feel so much better for it.

If anyone is bullying you over your choice of ships (or for ANY reason) or harassing you please come to me. My ask box is open, my messenger is open. If you feel the need to vent or have a heart-to-heart, you are more than welcome to. I do not judge anyone based on their ships, you are all my friends.

I will not stand for bullying in this fandom, and while I may not be able to directly stop the bullies, I will do what I can to ensure that this fandom remains welcoming and safe for fans of all ages. EVERYONE should feel welcome and safe here and that they can all proudly contribute to this fandom.

The point I’m making is that nobody should feel bad about what they ship. Nobody should feel lesser than other fans and have to hide their ships or feel afraid to share them, and nobody should feel they are greater than others and bully other fans over their ships. We are all equals.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Stay safe and happy, friends.

OK, list of positive events in the Reylo Fandom...(in chronological order)

So we’ve been through a lot of bad shit. We’ve had some major divisions, too. And just imaging all of the friends many of us old cane-wielders have lost along the way genuinely makes me very depressed and I hope somehow things change some day…

So frankly I’m done reading that sad shit- let’s get started with the good!!

1. Those first two weeks after the film came out and people, still on their main blogs, started posting voraciously about TFA and started tentatively asking each other about a possible Kylo and Rey dynamic only to discover it wasn’t just them- others felt it, too.

2. The discussion in the tiny fandom over what to call the ship. There were multiple candidates, some simple, some other mishmashes of words, but eventually posts began to emerge saying “Well it’s settled then- Reylo it is.” Yep, the ship name was decided on Tumblr. And actually at the time I remember posting saying I preferred one of the other candidates (can’t remember what it is now, though- maybe kyrey?), but it wasn’t long until #Reylo became the main name and tag for the ship and, hey, you can’t fight progress.

3. The first amazing fan art started to appear! Many of our very first artists are still with us! I remember the first original piece of fan art I ever saw for this ship came from @solarfugue(arriku) and I was instantly in love.

4. Fics were steadily being written! Through everyone’s early stories, certain patterns began to emerge- ‘force bonds’ being the primary one. These would be things that would be included in nearly every single fic as a prerequisite after February 2016.

5. Just around the very, very end of 2015, the dedicated side blogs began to emerge and the fandom began to really solidify.

6. The first big exchange (to my knowledge) was the Valentine’s Day fic exchange Feb. 2016! Tons of people got in on it, and it started rumblings for possibly more writing projects.

7. SMUT WEEK was the last few days of february going into March 2016. Basically, after a stream of people happily chatting and giggling along here on tumblr, a whoooole lotta risqué art emerged at once, and as a consequence, I declared the second or third day of this trend to be Smut Week. Everyone really grasped onto the idea with both hands and the smutty art, and even stories, POURED in for 5 solid days more. There’s not been much of a need to call another smut week, because, well, we never actually dropped back down to any innocent level since. So, anyone who’s ever tried to avoid smut in fics in this fandom, it’s my fault. I’m sorry (sort of). ^^;

8. Art Fridays! For awhile in spring, going into early summer 2016, Art Fridays, organized amongst some of the artists in the fandom, became a thing to look forward to. There’d be a secret theme and on Fridays around 8pm or so, suddenly tons of new art would emerge. It was something I always looked forward to. Later the concept morphed into ‘Shenanigans’ and is held sometimes on days other than Friday.

9. Art Fridays eventually morphed into the Reylo Anthology, a collection of artists who would still occasionally do art fridays stuff, but also worked to focus more on big themed reylo art projects.

10. The Reylo Fanfic Anthology was a concept tossed around quite a bit during Spring 2016 before being taken up by a group of writers and is still going strong to this day. There’s one large project a year, dotted with side events often centered on holidays.

11. The Reylo Sin Anthology came to be! A fanfic anthology for all the smuttiest smut fics, written to various themes throughout the year- many of them very much on the risqué side which is how they liked it. (It later became the Reylo Book of Sins and still going strong.)

12. From Spring to Summer 2016, due to new revelations from cast and crew, the fandom contracted a bit, but ultimately became more concentrated and ‘regulars’ began to emerge. Summer was also about the time that ‘metas’ pretty much got exhausted (everything had pretty much been hashed out by then), so it got a little quiet…

13. In October the Reylo Short Story Collection was announced. Focusing on, obviously, short stories, the goal was to write within the word-count limits and then publish with each story having its own custom art. A new issue is published every four months.

14. In November, two of our own, @starwarsnonsense and @bastila-bae, began an analytical podcast, “Scavenger’s Hoard”, about the new films and also with the goal of being reylo-friendly in an increasingly aggressive fandom. They added women’s voices to the discussion and have since even won awards!

15. We lost Carrie in the winter of 2016, so that was pretty terrible. But just before that happened, we were abuzz knowing a title for 9 was coming, and also anxious for the latest new years’ fic exchange hosted by the fic anthology, something that a lot of us held onto as a positive distraction in the wake of tragedy.

16. Starting around the turn of the year, changes started to take place on the SW website, namely the Data Bank, and other places- talk of ‘intertwined destines’ and ‘fascination’ and ‘links’ with regards to Kylo and Rey…could it be? Did we finally have more reason to hope?

17. In January 2017, we got the title for 8!! “Space Bear” became “The Last Jedi”, and suddenly the meta writing was back in full swing!

18. In April 2017, we got the trailer for 8! And boy did we get our hope alright. Quickly we realized many of our ‘standards’ in fanfiction seemed to have fairly correct between the trailer and cast/production commentary at SWC: Luke the underwhelming teacher, Kylo suddenly maskless and with a much reduced scar than we ever anticipated…*cough* causing us to speculate even more strongly about his anti-hero role and desire to reach Rey. The new clues and speculation quickly began to filter into fic writing.

….and here we are today! Did I miss anything? This was sort of a greatest hits in the fandom. ^^; If I missed anything, let me know! It’s getting late and I’m a bit out of it, so forgive me if I have…gosh so much has happened!! We’ve done so much!! And I’m so proud to have been with all you guys, old and new, through it all. :,)

anonymous asked:

I'm really sad about something I don't understand and was hoping you could explain. Why do people block without giving a reason to? I don't why it first seems like it's all going so well then the next you're blocked and you don't know why or what you did or said wrong? It's happened twice now and to say it hurts is an understatement.

Oh, my precious Kabby babies.  Circle up, it’s time for some firm but gentle life advice from Mom.

First of all, unless I personally am the person who blocked you (which I’m obviously not since we’re having this conversation!), in a very real sense the short answer to this question is that you know I can’t actually answer this question.  You’re asking me to tell you why a person I don’t know did a thing for which I have no context, and for which there could be a thousand reasons. So in a concrete, specific sense, my answer is: I do not know.

(You knew there was going to be a however.)

Social media is a deeply personal avenue for self-expression and it’s also a world where many of us spend a great deal of our time, which means that we have the full and free right to customize it into exactly what we want it to be.  The things that you post are personal reflections of you, which is  why it bums you out when someone mutes or blocks or doesn’t follow back; it feels on some level like a personal rejection.  But the space you curate is also a personal reflection of you.  You have the right to post anything you want and other people have the right to choose not to see it.  Both of those rights are equal, even though you’re only on one side so naturally the other one feels like it’s in some way “wrong.”

I’m speaking with zero context for what your preexisting relationship with these people was beforehand (like obviously if it was a close friend and they blocked you out of nowhere, you’re going to have to sort that out with them directly, I can’t advise you there), but it’s important to remember that there may be no “right” and wrong” in this scenario.  It’s fully possible for both of these things to peacefully coexist at the same time:

1) your absolute right to feel a little bit rejected and hurt that a stranger on the internet made the choice that they didn’t want your social media sphere to overlap with their social media sphere,

2) that other person’s absolute right to say “if something or someone makes me feel even the tiniest bit ‘nope’ I am purging it out of this space so it is exactly what I want and need it to be.”

They don’t need to have a reason.  That sucks, when you’re on the receiving end of it, which all of us have been - it truly and genuinely sucks - but it’s also reality.  One of the hard truths that incidents like this make us sometimes have to face - and we don’t want to face these things, because they can feel really icky and vulnerable and ping all the little gremlins in our brain  - is this:

nobody on the internet owes you their time or attention for anything you do or say.

This sounds mean and brutal, and I don’t mean it to be, because you know mom loves you, but it’s incredibly important, so I’m going to say it again to make sure that if nothing else, this gets through:

nobody on the internet owes you their time or attention for anything you do or say.

The celebs you stan don’t owe you a response to your tweet, just because you want one.  The people you tag in meta don’t owe you reblogging it to continue having that conversation with you forever, just because you want to prove you’re right.  The fans of the fic you write for your most popular ship don’t owe you crossing over to give you hits on your rare-pair fic if they don’t feel like it.  Nobody owes you a certain number of followers, nobody owes you a response to every anon you send them, nobody owes you finishing that fic you like in time for them to read it when they feel like reading it.  We owe each other one thing and one thing only: basic human decency.  That’s it.  Everything else is freely offered to the world, and freely taken by the people who want it.  It’s not a transactional exchange.  If you make art or write fic and you put it out there into the world, you’ve done a cool thing, and whether it gets ten hits or thousands it was still worth doing.  There will be people who aren’t interested, but if you get hung up on feeling rejected by that, it will paralyze you.

Social media is personal. That’s unavoidable.  It’s an extension of ourselves.  When someone is cruel to you or to one of your friends on the internet, even if it’s an anonymous stranger, it feels shitty.  When you express an opinion about something and a ton of people reblog it and the tags are full of “OMG YES THISSSSS”, it feels great.  We all experience that in different ways.  Society has always selected arbitrary measures for young girls and women to live up to in order to feel like they’re popular or they’re approved by the cool kids, and right now it’s things like “how many followers do you have” and “did you get an RT from a celebrity” and “how many likes on your posts”.  So on a primal level, maybe having someone you thought was a friend block you on Twitter or Tumblr hits you in the same deep core place as having the cool kids not come to your birthday party.  That feeling is super real!  It brings up alllllll that deep stuff we try to hide and pretend that we’re above experiencing, but we all have those squishy vulnerable inner selves that just need the cool kids to like us and we feel bad when they don’t.

I had this exact conversation with my therapist a few weeks ago when she was giving me a hard time because my book has 60 reviews on Amazon, of which like the majority are 5 stars with two negative ones, and I have both the negative ones like memorized.  And she was like “CLAIRE.  WHAT THE HELL.  WHY DO YOU DO THIS?  58 POSITIVE AND YOU CANNOT QUOTE A SINGLE ONE.  TWO SHITTY ONES AND YOU KNOW THEM VERBATIM.  THAT IS NOT HEALTHY BEHAVIOR.”  And I was like “… . okay fine when you put it that way, yes I do sound like a crazy person.”  So like my advice to you – advice which I have just proven I am absolute garbage at taking myself, so like I may have just eroded my own credibility in my efforts to help – is to remember that you probably have a lot more than two followers so honestly this is probably not a bad collective ratio, and there may be lots of people who are very interested in what you have to say but you’ve focused a lot of your energy on these two people and it’s worth giving some thought as to why that is.

My question for you is this: what is the net negative impact of having these two people block you on social media? Like in an actual, concrete way, separate from those sort of core gut “I feel unloved in this moment” feelings, what is the effect on your life?  You might be surprised.  It might be zero.  In which case, let yourself feel those feelings, experience them as valid, and then breathe through them and move on and keep on doin’ you.

I’m pushing back on you a little bit here very gently because it feels, reading this anon, like you’ve made a determination of hurtful intent on the part of the person who blocked you, or at the very least a certainty that this choice that made was about you and not about them.  That the fact that things seemed to be going fine and then they blocked you means you were somehow intentionally misled or mistreated.  Be really, really, really careful about deciding the cool girl didn’t come to your birthday party because she’s a bitch who wanted to make you feel terrible and is sitting somewhere cackling at the thought of your sad lil’ face waiting by the front door; maybe she didn’t come to your birthday party because she has depression and it’s hard for her to leave the house sometimes and she knew your party would be loud and wild and crazy and too much for her brain to handle right now. Be careful about presuming negative intent with no proof it exists.  The internet makes this so easy, the internet conditions us for this, and it conditions us to respond in kind. The worst thing you could do here is to, like, make a callout post or subtweet in the hopes that it will get back to them and they’ll feel bad, or to sic your other followers onto them, because that turns this into a situation that really does have a right and wrong; and since you don’t know if they were trying to make you feel shitty, or just went on a big block/mute purge to whittle their list down for mental health reasons that are totally their own, once things escalate you can’t put the horse back in the barn. It’s too late.  Now it’s A Thing, when maybe it never really needed to be A Thing.  And in almost all situations for almost all people in almost all ways, Kabby Mom’s advice is going to be, “please think carefully before you make this A Thing.”

This got long, I’ve been having a lot of thoughts lately about the conversations I’m always having with fandom folks the way we let social media permeate and shape our sense of self, in good ways and bad, so I apologize for my verbosity but also not really because that’s how things roll over in Kabby Mom’s Advice Corner.  But I will sum up in bullet points for those of you who have been skimming, to bring you up to speed:

  1. Everyone has the right to curate their own social media space however they see fit, and they don’t have to explain their reasons.
  2. They aren’t obligated to include you in that space even if you want them to.
  3. None of that is an objective measure of your worth as a person or a sign that you should stop being you on the internet.
  4. Your feelings of rejection come from a real place and you get to feel them, as long as
  5. You are striving to move through them without permitting them to paralyze you, and finally
  6. You never use someone else’s choice to curate their social media sphere as a justification for treating them like crap.

Focus on your positive interactions instead of negative ones – your friends, creating stuff and putting it out into the universe – whether it be art, fic, opinions, a podcast, gifsets, crackposts, whatever – and your social media world will be a better place.

In the immortal words of the great Michael J. Fox, “What other people think of me is none of my business.”

Why I don't think this ship is wrong

I’m not interesed in fighting with antis, or trying to change other people’s opinion forcefully. However It may be usefull if I collect some things I and others have said

TL;DR: This ship *can* be handled so badly that it makes our beloved conman into a pedophile, but I think the grand mayority of the people being bullied on this site don’t even ship it like that. Don’t put everyone on the same bag. People don’t deserve to be bullied for what they like in fiction and there are clear differences between reality and fiction.

I don’t think this ship is pedophilia simply because I dont ship it that way. Pedophilia implies fetichistic sexual atraction to kids under 13, and a horrible abusive element of “I don’t care about you, I just wanna fuck u cuz ur young”. Now, if you see this pairing as reigen sexualy taking advantage of a very young mob or simply not really caring about his well being and preying on him, that would count (and also be horribly ooc and a sad way of doing it).

However if, by example, you ship them romantically as having mutual care for each other and mob in full understanding and control of the situation, even if the relationship gets sexual while mob’s still 14, I wouldn’t call it pedo. Questionable or innapropiate? Yes. But not pedophilia. And then you have many, many, other scenarios that get really away from all that.

An important distinction should be mentioned here: While I’m ok with a romantic relationship between this two characters despite their age gaps, If I saw a similar age gap in real life and the younger party is still a minor, I would probably call the cops. For me that is the difference between fiction and real life for this issue. Minors in real life should be discouraged from dating people much older because they could easily be taken advantage of. However in fiction, you have control over these characters and you can make sure their relationship is healthy, especially if you keep them in character as much as you can.

You can have them being romantically involved but not turning sexual until mob is older. You can have them being platonic for a long time before they develop romantic feelings. You can have mob being assertive. You can have reigen feeling conflicted. You can adress the age gap issue. You can have it not mattering at all and them just slowly getting closer witouth noticing. You can have them being only platonic, in a very strong friendship.

There is many many ways to make this ship beautifull and I don’t think it’s just to put everyone on the same bag as the worst content and condem them all using a really severe accusation of condoning child abuse or being abusers themselves.

It’s just not alright to make call out blogs and tag whoever ships it, regardless of how they ship it, as “pedophiles”. I remember one of these some months ago tagging a user who only had like two barely shippy posts with grown up Mob as “condones pedophilia”. Neither is ok to send mean messages to users with death threats or fill their asks with insults. Or flood the main tag with complains about which, I have to be honest and say that to have so much nsfw noncon underage content popping on your dash as some people complain, at least on this site you literally would need to follow the 2-3 blogs with such content and have them on notifications. I know what Im talking about, I check the main ship tag nearly daily, follow most shippers and have stumbled onto that only like twice on my dash.

Continuing with the list of shit people have been puting on with, it’s even less fair to ramp up the generalizations and make really rude comics portraying all the shippers as disgusting creatures. Or say you get disgusted if a shipper reblogs your content, even if they respected your tagging preferences and/or the content has nothing to do with the ship at all. Or to claim “x has great art but they ship reimob, nevermind, their art is trash”. What’s the necessity of doing all that? I frankly doubt people who do that have the best interests of minors at heart. At best I have seen questionable beliefs about content on a site as tumblr being influencial enough such that a fanart with less than 50 notes of a niche fandom can “normalize pedophilia” in american society (because you know, we are all americans and america is the world). At worst it just seems to be used as excuse for harassment.

Speaking of that, regarding the users who make really wrong content: While I won’t defend that, I feel another distinction should be made. Do I think certain content is gross? Yes. Some of that content nearly made me throw up? Yes. Do I think the autor of that content is gross/deserves to die/etc? No. Do I harass them? No. Some of them have turned out to be csa survivors. I try to abide to the notion that nobody should be bullied for their likings in fictional settings, even if I don’t like it. What I do to deal with that is simply not follow the blogs with such content and so far it works.

As I said, I’m not interesed in discussing with antis, I just wanted to put some things together. Maybe it will help confused bystanders understand the shippers aren’t defending pedophilia. We are just defending a ship we like and love. Let’s try to respect each other.

Things I Have Been Reading... (March)

March has been absolutely EPIC for amazing fics!  I am thinking I’m gonna have to go back to posting twice a month because this list is becoming a monster BUT I still think you should go read all the stuff.  This month I have limited myself to only 10 recs for each of my fandoms but there were so many more I could have added.  So here you go, this is my much debated and agonized over list of recommendations for March 2017.

The Ocean is Vast with Unfathomable Depths – IT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR ALL THE SHIPS

So I saw some really nasty tags on a reblog. I don’t post that much original stuff so reading all the tags gives me life. The tone of the tags was “if this is supposed it be about this character in that other ship I’m going to roll my eyes then commit violence. I hate that ship and the people who like it”. The funny thing is, I ship their ship and the one they hate so I was actually applying it to both.

Here is a list of the things I’ve seen just last night and this morning:

• Basic hatred of other ships
• False assumptions that anyone who ships X must then hate Y
• If you like a certain ship you need your head examined/replaced
• If your ship isn’t the most socially conscious ship available then you must be [insert –ist here]
• Wishing ½ a ship was dead or would stay dead

I really don’t get how any of the above adds to your enjoyment of Fandom/Shipping/Tumblr. Who am I kidding, I do. I just don’t agree with it. It’s entertainment and you can like what you like and hate what you hate but to me, it shows a lack of confidence in the thing you love if you need to disparage others who don’t feel the same as you in order to enjoy it.

There are many ships I don’t like, understand or am indifferent to. Several of my long time mutuals ship something that I’m really uncomfortable with. I don’t unfollow them, or post hate for that ship, or wish any part of it dead, or send an anonymous message telling them why they’re wrong. I blacklist it and/or scroll by it on mobile then reblog, like and dm about the things we do have in common. This isn’t politics or the fate of the world, it’s fandom.

I am so tired of seeing ship hate. The ocean is vast with unfathomable depths – it is big enough for all the ships.

in celebration of reaching a huge milestone for this blog and museinspo’s first birthday, under the cut you’ll find 274 quotes that can be used for verse and otp tags. they’ve been categorised into different ship types ( eg. general ships, long distance, toxic, fwb, exes, and many more ) so some quotes may appear under more than one category. i do, however, recommend checking out all the categories !! they were simply listed by my own interpretation and definitely aren’t limited to a certain ship type in the slightest. the pronouns used are simply what was in the original quote but can obviously be changed to fit your ship. depending on personal preference, some may be a little too long but can be shortened down pretty easily. i believe that covers it all !! if you find this useful, please do like and/or reblog ! thank you for supporting this blog so much and i hope you enjoy !

Klance Rec List: Multichapter Fics #1

What a Healing Pod Can’t Repair by Remember_Me (Completed) Words:55773 Chapters:12/12
VERY good post-episode 11 fic. Lance gets heavily hurt and Keith gets affected by this a lot more than he thought.

The Message
by shipstiel (Ongoing) Words:91858 Chapters:40/45
A lovely “wrong number”-type of AU, with Lance being the trashy memelord he is and Keith being his dry (sarcastic) logical counterpart.

Watercast by Fishwrites (Ongoing) Words:48169 Chapters:6/?
Very popular, it has avian Keith and merman Lance, do I have to say more?

I Swear To God the Devil Made Me Do It by innoguilty (Ongoing) Words:17729 Chapters:4/?
Gay croptop hipster/drugdealer Keith and fuckboi Lance in highschool. The song the title is referring to fits well. It started small but I enjoy it so much!

Entangled by mackerelmademedoit (Ongoing) Words:65977 Chapters:10/12
Keith and Lance develop this telepathic bond and their journey filled with a lot more “bonding moments” is entangling you right with them.

The Quiet by MilkTeaMiku (Ongoing) Words:32000 Chapters:16/?
Keith can see dead people and one certain obnoxious ghost in the hospital can’t leave him alone?
While a certain bit of the plot seems very obvious, the story goes a lot deeper than that and leaves some bits unexplained, in a good way.

call me, beep me by safra (Completed) Words:85591 Chapters:10/10
Another very enjoyable and sweet “wrong number”-AU!

Ethereal by SylphOfBlood987 (Ongoing) Words:13644 Chapters:9/?
Surreal. Lance drowns and finds himself in a world like a dream inhabited by one person only, Keith.

Close Your Eyes by Linea14 (Ongoing) Words:2348 Chapters:1/?
Soulmate-AU and it started wonderfully so I can’t wait what’s next.

Just my type by Lonely_Ghoul (Ongoing) Words:6062 Chapters:4/?
Keith needs a new roommate and Lance finds him.

Dirty Laundry by Gibslythe (Completed) Words:85042 Chapters:9/9
A Klance classic everyone apparently knows. Very well written and oh, what a ride. Keith comes with Lance to visit his family as his fake boyfriend.

nothing’s quite as sweet by dimpleforyourthoughts and thebrotherswinchester (Completed) Words:50370 Chapters:1/1
This is one chapter, but it is as long as some multichapter things and the journey through it left me emotionally exhausted just like the multichapter ones do.
Keith works at a shit cafe (plus Shiro and Pidge) while being really good at making coffee as a hobby and Lance (plus Hunk, Allura and Coran) work in the shelter across the street. Keith finds kittens in a dumpster.

Alright so this was mainly planned for my (one) friend @i-ship-a-lot-of-ships on here, but I thought I might as well make it all fancy with links n stuff and post in publicly, because some of these fics are rather popular, but some also need some more recognition!

I’m sorry if the short descriptions don’t make the fics justice, I tried keeping it brief, if I were to properly sum up the plots and my feelings for it, it’d be way too long! Just know that I LOVE all of these a lot, so much that I upped my initially planned count of a list of 10 to 12 fics just so I could fit them all in!

Please also know that the fics are not listed in any order. I would never be able to compare them to list them chronically for their quality because each one is unique in its own.

I will be reading a lot slower from now on due to College, but I’m planning on doing another one of these, it was quite fun organising this somehow.
If anyone wants to recommend me some fics (multichapter or not!) to read, I’ll definitely have a look at it and it might be on the next rec list if I enjoyed it! Just drop me an ask or a message!

ripleysellen  asked:

yooooo! what are your fav becommissar fics? do you have any recommendations? i hope you're having a good day + i adore your blog so much!!

Aaaa, I adore your blog too! Is it weird that I squealed at your lovely words? Probably. Ah well, I’m weird myself.

The Becommissar fandom is one that has created the 2nd most amount of fics out of all the Pitch Perfect ships with arguably the least amount of canon (we don’t even know the Kommissar’s name!) and is chock full of incredible writers and gripping fics, so I have no idea where to start! Here are a few that popped into my mind:

  • The Heart Doesn’t Lie by greg-the-di (Teen, WIP):  ‘Kommissar and Pieter have an argument that changes how they see each other; afterwards, Kommissar needs time away from him to recover. Instead, she finds Beca, who helps in unexpected ways.’ @greg-the-di is a brilliant writer, okay. Basically any fic of hers is a top recommendation. It’s a chapter in, and I can’t wait to read what’s happening next.

  • Better by greg-the-di (Mature, 8959 words): ‘In the middle of the night, a stressed out Beca receives a text message from a number she doesn’t recognise. She’s unsure of where it will lead, but she’s damn sure going to find out.’ This is probably my absolute favorite Becommissar fic. It has (s)texting *cough*, confused Beca, their first date and a love scene that I may or may not have re-read multiple times. A classic in the Becommissar fandom.

  • Time is Running Out by MercutioLives (AU, Explicit, 3894 words): ‘Soulmate timers are all the rage, so Beca Mitchell decided to blow $200 to get one. Too bad it’s broken.’ @acemordred is another writer and person I adore, and this is my favorite fic from last year’s Becommissar Week why didn’t we have one this year *cries* Very imaginative story and great spin on soulmate clocks. Plus I’m still in awe of the awesome mock Tumblr headers he created for this!

  • It’s Going Down, I’m Yelling Tinder by inkheart9549 (Mature, 11,488 words):  ‘It’s a week after the breakup with Jesse and Beca has been doing nothing but sulking. Stacie, as a last resort to get her to move on introduces Beca to Tinder. The confidence boost from people liking her is nice, but she doesn’t really do anything other than swipe through. Until they get to worlds and a certain gorgeous German pops up on her screen, then things get a bit interesting.’  Pacy writing, nice idea and meddling Bellas are always a welcome addition to a Becommissar fic. Plus the smut doesn’t hurt *looks away*

I’ll stop at four, because this fandom is bursting with creative and captivating fics! By no means is this an exhaustive list, and I know I’m missing out on a bunch of talented writers. I also love the ficlets here on Tumblr, which I’ll reblog again and tag you! Hope you enjoy these fics and long live Becommissar <3

  • Wigs - Personally I prefer Ebay. Wigs are cheap, buuuut you have to accept there’s a certain risk of not getting what you paid minimal money for. Still usually if you are wary you can go about with minimal mishaps. I like Ebay because of the price but also the variety. I’m terrible with wigs, so the closer at the start the wig is to the style/color I need the easier it is for me. So Arda for me isn’t really a good fit. (Though sometimes if the wig is really particular there’s nothing else than going with Arda.)

  • Contacts - Pinky Paradise. Hands down. Reliable, safe, and decently priced. Offers most of their contacts in a wide variety of prescriptions with no extra cost (which for me is super nice). They sort the contacts out in easy to find ways (by color, enlargement, etc) and most the contacts have real life customer pictures of themselves wearing the contacts so you really know what you are getting, not just some shopped photo of a lens over a stock eye shot.

  • Makeup - Honestly, I get most my makeup from Walmart. Cheap, wide variety. It helps that I don’t have sensitive skin. I can wear whatever and maybe have some small breakouts the next day. I also stop by CVS or Walgreens a lot, ton of variety and again cheap. Plus they are everywhere so if you realize you are out of concealer at the con you can usually pick up some at the local pharmacy in five minutes. For advances make up, like prosthetics, try any costume stores near you, like Party City or Halloween related seasonal shops. And of course the internet when you can’t find that one thing just the way you want it.

  • Fabric - Generally I go to Jo Anns and sometimes Hancock. These are what are local to me, and tend to have decent prices, okay selection, and for Jo Anns tons of sales and coupons. When I lived in Hawaii there were some local chains with amazing selection I liked more than these chains. (If you are in Oahu check out Kaimuki’s Dry Goods, small local store I used to really like.) So yeah poke around to see what’s around you! For especially hard to find fabric you unfortunately have to go online. It sucks and can be expensive. I like Amazon or Fabric.com but I’ve only done a little online fabric shopping so not my forte.

  • Supplies - This is a varied topic. Cause like Worbla, only available online. Paint? All over. Unfortunately I don’t have just a list I can tell you. Home Depo, Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, Michaels, Lowes, just try a balance of hardware and craft stores. And for the specialty stuff, like thermoplastics of course it’s the internet you go.

  • Shoes - Thrift shops. I love thrift shops. Goodwill, Salvation Army, whatever you have locally. There’s no guarentees unfortunately about the style and size but you’ll never get shoes cheaper. And since often I tear apart these shoes, paint them up, and otherwise mutilate them I feel a bit better about using these shoes which are already a step before the trashcan. To make things comfier you can put in inserts. If you can’t find something then internet is your best bet for the variety and low price.

  • Clothes - going to be cosplaying Shizuo and don’t really want to make a pair of black slacks? Who can blame you! So for simple clothing items you can head to my favorite, the thrift shop! Not only are you getting clothes for cheap but often also helping out different humane efforts (Like CHKD is a chain near me which is connected to a children’s hospital.) If you can’t find it in the thrift store gamble the more sure fire source is going to be Ebay! Again, used, cheap clothes. And some cheap new mass produced clothes. A little pricier with shipping and such but you can usually find low prices on basic things. Also even if it’s not a perfect match, wherever you got the clothes, keep an open mind to ability to edit the clothes into what you need.

So this is just a look into my shopping stops, I generally focus on lowering that price while trying to maintain quality. So if you are looking to do things without spending big bucks check these places out! Also for some tips on finding things on the internet, try a variety of search words, go through your big sites like Ebay and Amazon, but also Google Shopping. Annnd if you really are having trouble try Google Images then back track to the image source to what is possibly an online store. Not always but more often than not I’ve been able to find things like that!

Arrow 520 "Underneath" Thoughts

(I initially wrote this after a long night and red wine, so enjoy that. I usually fix most of my errors in the morning) This episode flashed back in order to show progression. While I had a few minor quibbles, let’s dive into it.

The Opening Scene

(GIF credit: @felicityssoliver)

We know it picks directly after 519 “Dangerous Liaisons”. When Oliver and Felicity come to, Oliver’s first though is to find/protect Felicity. They assess the damage, and the explosive ramifications for Felicity, who finds herself temporarily paralyzed again. It felt very reminiscent of the explosion from 301 in “The Calm”.

The Escape Plans

They both have plausible ideas. Felicity’s being the more calculated, efficient, and thought out of the time.

My issues with the scenes for those moments, and my boyfriend can attest to this, I yelled at our TV, “Stop bickering, and work together, dammit!” But they managed to work together through difference. Granted, Oliver, Felicity, and the team got our favorite power couple out in the nick of time.

I will say I did like to see Felicity call Oliver out on his hypocrisy and bullshit as she does. I also enjoyed looking at Felicity while she patches up Oliver again. Plus her “I told you so. I told you” What? Eleven times, according to the script.

Kyoko/Ren Week FAQ

What is Kyoko/Ren Week?

Our very own shipping week for the Kyoko/Ren pairing! What’s a shipping week, you ask? It’s when fans get together for one week to make fanworks dedicated to a certain ship, with those fanworks being inspired by prompts corresponding to each day. I’ll provide the prompt list for all you excellent people to get creative with.

When is Kyoko/Ren Week?

April 8-14

How do I participate in Kyoko/Ren Week?

First, create your fanworks, inspired by the prompts. On each prompt’s assigned day, post your fanwork for that prompt, and tag it with “kyokoren week”. If you use other tags, make sure “kyokoren week” is in the first five! This is so I can find your posts and reblog them.

What kind of fanworks can I make for Kyoko/Ren Week?

Any kind of fanwork is welcome! Fan art, fanfiction, fanvideos, manga edits, gif sets, cosplay, interpretive dance, macaroni art… whatever works for you! Just stay within the guidelines listed below.

Whatever you share, it must be:

  • of your own making: Do not repost something that you did not create yourself.
  • focused on the Kyoko/Ren pairing: It’s fine to include other characters, but this is Kyoko/Ren Week–we’re here to ship! That said, Kuon is fine to use in place of Ren. You can also use any of the characters Kyoko and Ren have portrayed.
  • made specifically for Kyoko/Ren Week: The idea here is that we’re creating new material, with the challenge of using the prompts for inspiration. This isn’t the time to promote one of your old fanworks.

Also, if your fanwork contains nsfw content, please tag it accordingly!

Do I have to sign up? Is this a commitment?

Nope! Just jump in whenever you like.

What if I can’t finish a fanwork by the prompt’s assigned day?

That’s okay. Posting on those days is part of the challenge, but it’s no big deal if you’re late. This is all in good fun.

Do I have to make something for every prompt?

Nope! You can do as much or as little as you want. You can even make multiple fanworks for a single prompt, if you feel like it.

And that’s it! If you have any questions or need clarification on something here, please feel free to shoot me an ask or message!

Big Name Fans, and fandom behavior

This is a subject that’s been on my mind for a while. Since I started getting active in fandoms years ago I’ve seen some irritating things that I’ve been wanting to address. Maybe it’s time I brought it up because the more I see it, the more irritated I get.

What’s below is a bunch of opinions and frustrations I’ve had over the course of seven or eight years. It is my opinion based on observation. I don’t expect widespread agreement, or think my opinion is the end all be all of opinions on the subject.

People who get ‘fandom famous’ are often referred to like this. They get popular, sometimes early on in the growth of a fandom, providing art of some kind, music, fanfiction–either RP based or independent– or drawings, that get a lot of attention, either due to low content or interesting subject matter– be it a ship or a catchy tune.

They often tend to run in similar circles and get into close knit cliques. Groups form around them, either with the intent of individuals elevating their statuses based on the BNF’s popularity, or gaining free art from a popular artist.

I’ve noticed, though, a few times, actually, that fandom fame goes to a person’s head. Sometimes someone who was perfectly reasonable before their fame can become an asshole once they’ve been elevated by their base group.

They start treating people who aren’t in their group with a good deal of disrespect. They go to great lengths to lord their abilities over other people. They seem to lose a sense of shame, because whatever they do, the group consensus is 'they can do nothing wrong’.

There was an artist I was aware of, in the Invader Zim fandom, who was popular for drawing 'emo’ Zim. Another artist drew something interesting and only similar in the vaguest of senses, her version was something more along the lines of visual kei, however the first artist, being bigger and more popular within the fandom, wound up running the second artist from the group, using her fanbase to drive her point home.

This is a shame because the artist is a sweet, talented person who deserved the recognition she was getting.

There was another artist, a writer, who, when she transitioned to another fandom, got upset that she wasn’t getting the same reception she had in her original fandom, and grew prone to bitch fits over it.

Another artist sought to create drama with other artists in order to make them not want to work to become a singular popular provider of art for the fanbase. She pitted two BNFs, who’d been friends for years, against one another, effectively ending their friendship.

Other artists created RPs and excluded people who called them on their poor behavior, while allowing their friends to enter into the RP, putting restrictions on whom their characters could interact with off forum.

Yet another artist I’ve known in my time grew upset if you expressed appreciation of another person acting as the character they portrayed most. If you were their friend you could only like them, not another RP person, not another actor, or cosplayer. This same person changed room plans on me, my partner and best friend last minute, and said it HAD to be that way because she was in charge of the room and that’s the way it was going to be. She threw a fit and slammed my friend and I, in front of my partner, in a large group chat aver kicking us from the group. That needed to get off my chest.

Further people were known for purposely triggering people they didn’t like, throwing fits in group chats when someone expressed anxiety, lied to friends and caused breakups due to jealousy, and rigged tryouts for projects they were working on because they wanted one BNF over another, or even received payment for commissions and never even thought about turning out a product, treating their commissioners as personal bank accounts. There were even people who, once they gained popularity, thought their opinion on ANYTHING was worth more than anyone else’s.

Of course there’ve been the few BNFs I’ve seen who actually seem to care how they present themselves to their colleagues. They’ll offer critique to other artists, call people on their bullshit, and talk to their fans with respect. They have good commission turnouts, don’t trashtalk other artists, and in general treat people with respect. They seem immune to their fame, treating people like they matter rather than gunk on their boots. There’s a certain level of respect I reserve for these people.

Here’s the thing though, no one should ever treat other people in these forms. You’re a member of a fandom, you are not on the silver screen, or the radio, or the New York Times Best Seller list. You do not get to act like a Prima Ballerina because a bunch of people on the internet think you’re hot shit. To me it seems like once you’re a BNF, you become a representative of your fandom. Outsiders judge your group based on your actions. In my opinion, once you gain fame within a fandom, you have to behave even better than you did before. Maybe that’s the wrong way to look at it, but it’s important how you present yourself once you gain popularity. Your life is no longer yours. It’s irritating and kind of a shame, if you want to look at it like that, but that’s the way it is.

Of course, BNF people aren’t the only ones who should keep their behavior in mind. Blogs that track drama within a fandom only contribute to bad behavior and bullying. Trampling over people’s head canons is also a problematic situation that needs to be addressed. You don’t get to tell people they can’t think what they want to think, flood a given tag with hate, or treat other people like crap because you don’t agree a character is a certain ethnicity, gender identity or sexuality. You don’t get to trample over someone who thinks a certain character acts a certain way, especially when the source material is vague on the details. You don’t get to complain that you don’t like a certain piece of art.

Then there’s anon hate. When someone disagrees with your head canon, or the direction of a certain piece of source material, you don’t get to go into their inbox and tell them they should die for the behavior. If someone doesn’t like the same BNF you adore, you don’t get to declare them a piece of shit. You don’t even get to send death threats to someone who doesn’t like the band you worship.

It’s just a show. It’s just a book. It’s just a comic. It’s just a band.

A lot of us are adults now. It’s time to start acting like it.

I don’t know, this is just a thing that’s been on my mind. You’re welcome to ignore it, agree with it, disagree with it, whatever. It’s just my opinion on the situation and I might be a little irritated and pissy about people’s behaviors in my fandoms in general over the years.

I get a lot of asks asking for advice on writing and starting a blog and whatnot, and I felt like I was always repeating myself so I’m just making one big masterpost of it that I can link people to. This is basically of a smorgasbord of things I do and things I learned from the College Writing/Intro to Fiction course I took this past year. We gonna cover characterization and description, imagine specific advice, and starting an imagines blog on tumblr. :D

Let’s gooooo!

(All the little writing examples I’m putting in here are just stuff I made up on the spot. They aren’t from anything.)

General Writing

Dialogue is a very important part of the story, yes, but it’s the descriptions that really bring it to life. You have to set the scene for your story. Describe the area your characters are in. One of my favorite things to do is focus on one specific aspect or aesthetic of the area and really nail that description. That allows the reader to kind of form their own image with things that are significant to them and their experiences.  Focus on the senses when describing anything, especially scenery. How does the wind feel on the character’s face?  Are they hearing the sounds of a creek or a busy street or nothing at all? Does the flavor of strawberry explode on their tongue or is it subtle tang the tingles their throat as they swallow?

In general writing, something you really want to describe is characters (this is different for writing imagines, but we’ll get to that). These are the things that are specific and unique to your story. People don’t fill gaps of character description as well as they do of scenery descriptions. There’s direct characterization and indirect characterization. Both are fine.

Direct characterization is something. “He had light eyes and dark hair. He was clearly one of those boys that knew they were attractive and used it to make their ends meet.” You are flat out describing the characters looks and personality.

Indirect characterization is more like. “Her stubbornness got the best of her.” or “ ‘I think you’d like this place,’ he said, ‘It seems right up the alley of a pretentious artist like you.’” You’re revealing things about the character, almost without the reader even realizing it.

Indirect characterization can be harder, but it’s majorly worth it to practice your skills at that. Stories that start out like “My name is Rachel. I have purple hair, green eyes, and freckles. I love writing and music. I was walking to school one day…” Like please no. I’m sorry if you’ve written stories like that, and I’m offending you, but we all have areas where we can improve.

Really good mix of direct and indirect is good. Most often in stories (from first person perspective especially) the protagonist/narrator of the story is described through indirect characterization because it’s from their perspective; they know themselves the don’t need to describe themselves. The main character will, however, use direct characterization to describe the antagonist or deuteragonist, especially if it’s someone they are meeting for the first time.

Emotions are another thing that are very important to describe. You could also take a direct and indirect approach to this, but it’s flipped. The narrator/perspective knows their emotions most of the time, so they will say. “I felt my anger growing.” “The whole thing made me anxious.” However, it’s harder to read others emotion so you might say, “He furrowed his brow as he looked at her.” “She spoke in a condescending tone.” Hint are their emotions with their body language. Bonus points if you can get the right amount subtly where the reader knows the other characters emotions, but the protagonist doesn’t. It’s hard to do that without out the reader looking like an oblivious idiot, but it can be done by describing a character’s body language, facial expressions, and movements.

Again, use senses to describe emotions. Are they angry? Then their body feels hot and their shaking. Are they nervous? Their stomach is churning and their chest is tight. Are they shocked? They probably can’t breath and their limbs feel numb. Think about what happens to your body when you feel a certain way, and expresses that in your writing.

This is key in your stories. Keep your language true to yourself and your characters. Thesauruses are great, but don’t overuse them. People can see right through you if you use a big fancy word every paragraph and they start to get annoyed and think you or your characters are pretentious. Nothing brings someone out of a story more than thinking, “What does that word even mean?” every ten pages.

ANALOGIES. Metaphors. Similies. They can be so amazing if done right. Again, like big fancy words, you can’t over do it or your writing comes off annoying and pretentious to most normal people, but in a tasteful amount, they can really add some spice to your stories. Analogies are fabulous because they relate the situation at hand to other real world experiences and knowledge. Ex. “He was an iceberg in the middle of the ocean and she was about to crash headfirst.” and “The sound of their voices ripped through the air like gunshots.” sounds so much cooler than, “She was falling for him, and it wasn’t good.” and “They all shouted at me.” ya feel?

I don’t get the chance to do this as much as I would like because I have a lot of writing to do so I usually speed read and scan for spelling mistakes and then publish. If you’re super serious about what your writing re-read it at least twice. Don’t just fix the grammar; look for plotholes and places where your could delete a redundant sentence or two.

They absolute best way to improve your story is to complete re-write it. Print out a copy of your work. Put it in front of your computer. Re-type every single sentence. You’ll realize things that don’t make sense. You’ll add in some metaphors or stronger imagery. You see opportunities to foreshadow and blow people’s minds. I don’t so this with my imagines, but if I were writing a short story for class or something. Re freaking write it.

Imagine Writing Advice

First and foremost, do not feel pressure to write anything you don’t want to. Some blogs will write smut, that doesn’t mean you have to. Someone might request something for a ship you don’t like or don’t much about, you don’t have to write it. You retain the right to decline requests, but always do so respectfully.

Remember how I said you want to describe your characters with as much detail as possible. This isn’t true for imagines. If you are writing something in second person, you are writing about someone you don’t know, so don’t try to describe them. Unless a specific aspect of them is central to the story, the only things you should write are Y/N and Y/L/N. None of this “Your hair color”, “Your eye color”, “Your favorite food” shit. I roll my eyes every time I see this. The reader knows who they are; they’ll fill in the blanks themselves without you having to put the blanks in. It really pulls someone out of the story if they have to describe themselves. You need to make your reader as generic as possible so that anybody can put themselves into your story. You can compensate by describing Davee- I mean, your other character super well.

Since you are writing about characters that you didn’t make yourself, you have to really know the character. Make their reactions something you believe that character would actually do or say. Get to know the character inside and before writing them so that you can do their original creator justice. People will love your story ten times more if it’s believable.

Get the Grammarly extension for Chrome y’all. Chrome automatically downloaded it for me and it used to PISS ME OFF (still does sometimes but it’s worth it). Now that I’m writing regularly, however, it’s a life saver. It makes it ten times easier to edit your work faster. It highlights spelling mistakes AND grammar mistakes like forgetting an apostrophe or an article, or using the wrong “there”. Like I said, I try to re-read my imagine at least once before I post it just to polish things over.

Don’t rush yourself, and don’t be afraid to start over. I deleted like half of my first Daveed imagine because I decided I didn’t like it, and I could do better. There is 100% always room for improvement; you just have to be willing to put the work in.

Managing an Imagines Blog

Starting a Blog

People always ask me, “I want to start an imagines blog but I don’t know how.”

First, click on new blog.

Second, pick a username.

Third, write.

You aren’t going to get requests right away, so take the time write your own ideas. My first Laf fic and Blessings were a story I  wrote when I didn’t have any requests (lol hard to believe there was a time like that right?)

TAGS TAGS TAGS. I say this all the time. They are the best way to get your blog noticed. For example, this is what tags on a Laf imagine might look like:

#lafayette #marquisdelafayette #lafayette imagine #marquis de lafayette imagine #lafayette x reader #marquis de lafayette x reader #lafayette fanfiction #daveed diggs #hamilton #hamilton imagine #imagines blog #hamilton fanfiction #lafayette fluff

See all that? That will get people to see your work, for sure. There’s no such thing as over tagging (be careful though, Lin checks his tumblr tag and we all know how that goes).

Reblog one of the many prompt lists floating around. It makes it easier for people to request stuff.

Once the requests start coming in, stay on top of them. My system is copying and pasting the request into a list of newest at the bottom. I write in and order of requested first, written first, because that feels courteous to me. That’s just my method, you definitely don’t have to that.

I usually write about one imagine a day depending on how busy I am. Work at your own pace. You could write an imagine a week. You’ll figure out what works best for you.

You might end up drowning in 50+ request like yours truly. Don’t freak out! Take it a fic a time. I like to look at a request and see if there’s another one further down on my list that I can combine. For example: The Lafayette fluff I’m taking a break from writing right now is a combination of two requests that had nothing to do with each other.

One wanted Lafayette and reader as friends with prompts like “Come over here and make me.” and “I’ve loved you for years.”

The other wanted a Laf fic where he’s besties with the reader and there playing around and Lafayette tackles her and gets caught up in the moment.

SO I shoved them into the same fic. Two birds with one stone.

You can ALWAYS close requests until you catch up; there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Lastly, and most importantly,

Be polite when turning down requests. Tell your followers you love them because they’re the reason your there. Talk to and get to know them. Always be kind and patient with people.
